SO. TO KICK OFF THE WEEK OF SPECULATION BEFORE THE UPDATE DROPS.

last night i had a bit of a Revelation. literally. i borderline woke up in a cold sweat with this realization. the way i lunged for my laptop to scream at friends... ough. lets get into it

so. i do believe I've made a couple of theory posts about Barnaby not being quite as receptive to his and Wally's "forced" best friendship as Wally - since the show wrote them to be friends instead of it happening naturally. i thought it might be a point of tension for Barn. i thought a lot.

YES SO I'M TOSSING (almost) ALL OF THAT OUT THE WINDOW!

the bios state Barnaby as Wally's best friend multiple times over. it had to be regularly reinforced. their colors were chosen to mark them as friends.

but Barnaby - presumably - can't see the bios, he wouldn't know the scripts. the friendship would be natural from his perspective. how would he know otherwise? even if the relationship started out synthetic, i don't doubt that it became genuine. in the context of their world and perceptions, realistically speaking Barnaby probably wouldn't sense anything wrong.

the reminders to be best friends weren't for Barnaby.

they were for Wally.

i'm starting to suspect that Wally is Barnaby's best friend, but Barnaby isn't Wally's. i think that Wally's "best friend" is Home - or at least Wally has a closer connection to them / Home is more important to Wally than anyone else is.

i remember reading this livestream trivia (from theneighborhoodwatch's doc, if you haven't their resources yet what are you even doing?):

and i assumed it was for Barnaby's side of the relationship. but it's not, is it? it's Wally's? and it makes too much fucking Sense! it fits! i can see it perfectly! i can feel things slotting together in my mind due to this shift in perspective, and i'm scared

Barnaby probably thinks the relationship is natural, just like how he thinks he's a real person in a real world. Wally probably knows that the relationship is a role, just like how he knows he's a puppet in a false reality.

that leaves me wondering how much of it is genuine on Wally's side. i don't doubt that they really are friends, but how deep does that connection go? in the interview, Wally sounded excited/proud about having a best friend, but how much came from a place of feeling, and how much came from a place of Fulfilling The Role? how much of it is performative? how much of it is a mask?

i've been seeing everything differently. Barnaby poses for Wally the most because he has good balance and is good at staying still, not because of favoritism or because he's Wally's best friend. in the 14 (15 including the hidden halloween) audios, Barnaby consistently seeks out Wally and checks in on him. Wally seems more casual about their relationship than Barnaby is.

i'm worried that Wally values Home & You/Us over Barnaby. that Barnaby is second or third place in Wally's heart. that Wally means more to Barnaby than he means to Wally. after all, only one of them needed their relationship to be reinforced on a seemingly regular basis.

i'm confident that Wally cares about / loves Barnaby, but the question is how much? to what extent?

I love fluff, I love tension- but I also love a little heartbreak (and anything with Miguel O’Hara)

Well, I mean, those misunderstood heartbreaks. The ones where a character reads into something that isn’t there, or makes assumptions and ends up hurting their own feelings.

You know, like seeing your person with someone else. Having their date come up right in the middle of your catching-up. Seeing them say goodnight to someone unknown. Walking by a restaurant window, seeing them with someone else.

..but not knowing that “date” is a just a friend of theirs, or that the “mystery goodnight” was just a hug goodbye after getting a ride home from a coworker because it was raining, or that the “casual dinner date” was actually their brother visiting for a quick weekend. Those completely normal, platonic, familial, friendly interactions that get twisted because of a jealous heart.

So of course I love thinking about those scenarios with Miguel O’Hara.

That man is already closed off, guarded, walled-up, you name it. He’s not one to be sappy and vulnerable, let alone admit feelings he doesn’t want to have.

Now imagine that man in those scenarios. Finally talking himself up to just admit it- to ask you on a date, to test the waters, anything.. and then having your “date” walk up.

“They didn’t have any of those fancy cherries so I just got you your usual instead-oh, Mr.O’Hara I presume?”

He swears his heart tightened in his chest, but also jumped into his throat, yet sank into his stomach all at the same time.

“That’s alright- yes this is Miguel, Miguel, this is-“

How his muscles would tense and he’d interrupt to force out a monotone response- “Mr.O’Hara is fine. If you’ll excuse me.” before walking between the two of you and away to anywhere but there.

How he’d be cursing and grumbling at Lyla for making him believe in some sort of fairytale. Making him feel like a fool. How he’d be avoidant, harsh even.

Turning his back on you. Having lunch in his office, alone. Cold, flat, monotone interactions.

“There are other things that can give your life meaning-“

“Oh like what, like you?”

“…This is the part where you apologize.”

“This is the part where you leave.”

What it would take for him to realize he was being a fool- just not in the ways he thought.

Sidenote but that did make me realize how when we see the Impel Down prisoners in Level 4, Oda does semi-consistently draw everyone sweating their asses off, which makes sense, since they're in the Inferno Hell. It is focken hot in there.

But then there's Crocodile and dude never breaks a sweat

Like to be fair there are a few characters who don't seem to be bothered by the heat of Level 4 either (Iva-chan, Sadi-chan etc)

But when you considder the sheer amount of fucking layers this man is wearing, like. You know what. Crocodile being completely heat-resistant up to 1700 Celcius makes perfect sense to me, I'll add that to my worldview, it's canon to me now.

In the wake of the breakup, Chay stops using the guitar Kim gifted him. He can't bring himself to get rid of it, but he can leave it in a closet and pretend it doesn't exist.

Kim finds out; maybe he sees Chay's playing someday, and recognizes the old, beat up instrument Porsche originally gave him. Asks what happened to the other one. Chay' still angry, says he doesn't want anything to do with it, the meaningless gift that Kim used to buy his way into Chay's good graces.

Kim doesn't say anything to that. He looks briefly wounded, but of course he covers it, never one to show he's hurt.

Sometime after that, Chay digs out the guitar with the intent of giving it back to Kim. That's when he notices it - etched into the back of the neck: Kim. Except, on closer inspection, he realizes it actually says Kinn, the letters tight in the small space, making the nn look like an m.

Chay realizes several things in that moment: 1. this guitar belonged to Kinn, 2. he must have given it to Kim, 3. this must be Kim's first guitar, and 4. it wasn't such a meaningless gift after all.

He looks at his own guitar, gifted to him by Porsche; it may be old and beat up, but he treasures it. It's a symbol of Porsche's love and sacrifice and support, it allowed Chay to chase his dreams, and as much as he loved that Kim gave him a guitar, this one means the world to him.

And now, he realizes that Kim gave him not just a random guitar, something to bribe Chay with, but something that must carry the same sentiment for him. because Chay has learned a lot about the Theerapanyakul's, now. He knows Kim left the family to pursue music, and he knows it cost him a relationship with his brothers. The fact that he still has Kinn's guitar all these years later shows it can't have been an easy decision.

He wouldn't still have the guitar if it wasn't important to him. The thing must be a decade old at least, yet it's in perfect condition, clearly well-maintained. Loved. And he trusted Chay with it. Even after everything that happened between them, he never asked for it back, even when Chay called it meaningless and unwanted.

That goes a long way in helping Chay understand him a little more, and eventually, forgive him.

the fact that Danny literally has to walk out of the room when Steve makes the decision to go rescue his mother... lordie. he cannot cope with this. he's watched Steve put his ass on the line for Doris several times already and every time she repays him by being shady and keeping secrets and taking off and ultimately not being a mother in any way no matter how much she claims to want to. and he just doesn't know how to handle this happening again, let alone all of it going down in circumstances where Steve has to go completely no-contact with the team. Danny can't even go with him and watch his back this time.

not to project, gang, but there's just. so much happening in Danny's tone and on his face in that moment. "it's your mother; you're gonna do what you're gonna do."

not to be a downer but I am suuuuuuper worried that because Hunter is going through it and is pissed he's going to say something to Echo blaming him for what happened to Tech.

I am not prepared for that kind of pain.

childe always prided himself on his ability to maintain a proper, sophisticated composure. outside of battle, he was polite, respectful, formal. donning a mask of false calm had been a skill he acquired at a young age, so lessons in proper harbinger etiquette only reinforced habits he was already familiar with.

the only person who was easily able to break childe’s composure is zhongli.

the first time childe felt his mask slipping was when zhongli gave him an unexpected, heartfelt compliment. a simple confession of his feelings, from zhongli’s point of view. he admitted he enjoyed spending time with childe, and that childe brought joy and something to look forward to in his daily routine. how childe had become one of his dearest friends, and how he cherished that friendship.

for zhongli, he was just stating a fact. but for childe.. he felt his cheeks burning up, and for the first time in a long time he stuttered, floundering for a response while looking anywhere but in zhongli’s eyes. zhongli had laughed, not at him, but a soft, fond laugh, like he was pleased he made childe react in such a way. he made sure to say so, much to childe’s chagrin as the redness in his cheeks spread to the tips of his ears.

from that point on, childe decided it was ok if he relaxed around zhongli a bit. it was ok not to be so formal and proper all the time. zhongli was his ‘dear friend’, after all.

the second time zhongli made childe lose his composure was when he revealed he was the geo archon. when it was discovered that for the entire course of their relationship, zhongli had been lying to him. he had pretended to care for childe, pretended to befriend him, all to get childe to lower his guard. when childe found out he was nothing but a pawn to zhongli.

his heart ached and his eyes stung, self deprecating thoughts swimming frantically around in his mind. but he forced himself to push down his emotions, smothering them until he could barely feel anything. he didn’t need to embarrass himself in front of zhongli more than he already had. he could wait until he was in the privacy of his own home before breaking down.

zhongli ultimately didn’t give him the chance.

he knew it was wrong, to follow after childe and attempt to force a conversation between them so soon after his betrayal. but zhongli couldn’t stand to see childe so upset, heart hurting knowing he was the cause of childe’s pain. it was selfish, but he needed to correct his mistake, to apologize for hurting childe as soon as he could.

when he showed up on childe’s doorstep, zhongli had anticipated anger. he was prepared for yelling, for scathing words, even for childe to lash out physically.

what he wasn’t prepared for was childe’s anger quickly melting away, being replaced with round, wet eyes, shaky breaths and a quivering lip.

he definitely wasn’t prepared for tears.

“it’s kinda pathetic, isn’t it?” childe bit out, his efforts to hastily wipe his tears away and not let zhongli know he was crying in vain as his eyes quickly welled up again. “i’m supposed to be the tsarista’s fearless vanguard, but instead i got my heart broken because i fell for the cruel tricks of a god.”

no amount of desperately telling himself to keep it together could stop childe from breaking down at that moment. zhongli showing up at his door was like ripping a bandaid off a wound before it fully recovered, or pressing a fresh bruise. he couldn’t help but react to the emotions washing over him, waves of sadness and betrayal and heartbreak and embarrassment crashing into him like the waves that lap at liyue harbour.

once again, zhongli had made childe’s mask slip. once again, his words and actions had gotten under childe’s skin and made a place for themselves in childe’s heart. but unlike the first time, where his heart was full of giddiness and the shy and tender feeling of falling in love, now all childe was left with was a painful, empty feeling, and a persistent little voice that told him he should’ve expected this.

The rating system is super inconsistent. Sometimes she'll be super serious about what she can tell from experience is going on behind the scenes, and other times the video is decidedly NOT cute because it was of Monty on the day he beat her at staffbot bowls after closing. Sometimes it's rated cute purely because Roxy got attached to the little animatronic she helped Eddie repair a few weeks ago that was in it. Sometimes it's not cute because it's of her old self and she remembers how bad it was all too well, while sometimes it's cute purely because it's not a Fazbear animatronic.

She adds recommendations for better animatronic welfare almost every time though. She's immensely entertained watching people try to explain that animatronics aren't alive... To an animatronic that is very much alive. She likes messing with them a bit :)

Posts a video of herself one day (with Cassie's help) after she got publicly and privately threatened by Fazbear to shut the fuck up because she's in breach of every employment contract they've ever made and the response was amazing lmao she's THRIVING on this attention and ohhhh Fazbear socials have gone suspiciously quiet oooo such a mystery why that is

It's embarrassingly easy, how someone can worm their way into Kaeya's heart. He just makes it so hard to navigate that one can never quite tell what it so happens to be or if he even feels such. And that's without mentioning he himself takes ample measures to never give them the opportunity to do so or see just how much he needs it.

One such means to his heart is taking care of him. Truly, actively looking after him and never giving him the chance to get away with hiding injuries ( and especially helping him with them ) or overworking himself ( whether helping ease the load on his shoulders or pull him away from it altogether ). He would never think himself befit of such care, even as he pours endless time and effort into doing the same for others. He will remember each and every time it is offered unprompted and always repay them for that kindness tenfold in devotion and gestures.

It's no wonder he chooses to remain with the Knights, regardless of how much more freedom he'd have operating outside of them.

Vick blinked when it was his turn for a kiss, glancing at Val's pout before he leaned back into it. Oh, he could spend years just kissing the people he liked. After a second, he was yanked aside, and Val's mouth formed to his, sloppy as it was. He let the drunk moth kiss him for a few seconds before he was abandoned for another kiss from Angel Dust.
