i'm making welt suffer again (and everyone else too)
aka i saw one (1) post and i have thoughts again
cw: mentions of blood, injury & death; as always spoilers for hi3 lore because it's such a yummy angst material for hsr welt
i literally just talk about the same things over and over again idk what you're doing here /lh protective welt or welt being a dad makes me so incredibly soft i can't do anything about it.
did i make myself cry with this?? next question
one day i'll post actual ff here i promise
imagine the crew getting caught up in a tough battle and no one is safe. everyone gets injured, it's just a matter of how serious their wounds are. so of course welt is hurt and bleeding as well, except he ignores it. obviously. especially after he sees that someone else's condition is much more serious.
maybe it's stelle, because she charged into battle so carelessly like she always does; maybe it's march, because she was too focused on keeping her shield on someone else and didn't notice an enemy sneaking up to her; maybe it's dan heng, he's similar to welt in that regard, because he'd do everything to protect his (found) family.
and welt rushes up to them. he immediately looks for something to stop the bleeding - maybe uses his own scarf. it's long, it'll be easy to wrap around the wounded body part, and of course it won't be as good as a properly put on bandage but it'll suffice for now. and maybe he comforts them; "it's okay, i'm here. it's going to be okay"; and he's all in all a calm man, but right now his voice is even softer than usual. now, even more than ever, he can't show them that he's afraid. especially when they notice the blood on him. "mr yang, you're--" "i'm alright. don't worry about it right now, okay?"
and maybe, for a moment, he thinks about the little boy that was left back home and realizes that there's not much difference in how he feels towards him and the person in his arms. they're his child as much as that little boy, and he's going to do everything to protect them.
but also, perhaps instead of someone from the trio it's himeko; she is a good fighter, she is strong, but the enemy was stronger this time. and welt rushes to patch her up too; and she's tired but jokes around a tiny bit, trying to make him smile, because she knows he's worried sick. and he tries to smile, he really does; but he's also trying to fight off the overwhelming sense of dread creeping up to him, the terrifying thought that he won't be able to save her, that she'll die - again.
he doesn't allow himself to even think of resting until everyone has made it back to safety. and even then, maybe he needs to be forced to sit down, and sit still, so that someone can take care of his own injuries. and he will fall asleep at some point, because he's just so exhausted, but after he wakes up, he will insist on staying with the one crew member that was so badly injured, even after being reassured they're going to make it.

DPxDC Prompt: I Got You Brother
Danny has been in Gotham for a while after things went south with his parents. But that's what happens when one's parents are convinced by the G.I.W. that Phantom killed "Real Danny" and took his place as a way to fill his sick obsession of "being alive" which - they couldn't be further from the truth - but his parents were so convinced by the evidence that they refused to listen. Vlad expected Danny to go with him and when Danny refused it made part of him snap.
Danny fled from his parents, the GIW and Vlad in the dead of the night. No family, no friends, nobody knew where he was and that was how he liked it.
He lived at the cave with the bats but refused their offer to come upstairs. He knew who they were and that they were safe but he also knew that if he took one step onto that elevator they would be his family. They would be his family and he couldn't risk losing another family.
He thought that living in the cave would prevent any of them from getting attached. So quickly his schedule turned into a cycle of patrols. Start patrols, stop in for lunch, patrol until dinner, patrol until breakfast, patrol again until lunch. Repeat day in and day out.
He told the team he didn't need to sleep and told them that he was fully a 'Ghost' from another dimension. As many details as he could keep from them the better.
Or so he thought.
Until after nearly a week of these endless patrol things changed. A fight with a particularly powerful ghost had wiped him out and while he managed to stay on his feet when he tried to continue patrol his vision blurred and his transformation dropped.
And so did Danny.
Danny wasn't even aware somebody was tailing him until a thick rope wrapped around his wrist and stopped his fall. Danny swung, hitting the side of a building with a tired grunt as he looked up.
Orphan.
"New brother! Got you!" Orphan called down to him as Danny tried to get his powers to respond, desperate to do anything to protect Orphan who was sliding closer to the edge.
Spoiler showed up within seconds, grabbing Orphan's ankles just as Orphan went over the edge and Red Robin grabbed Spoiler around her ankles. Frantic shouting echoed as Nightwing grabbed Red Robin around his ribs, the weight threatening to pull them all over before Red Hood grabbed Nightwing.
Danny reached up, trying to grab the rope when another wrapped around his free wrist from next to them. Batman was there and by his side was Robin, also there to help Danny and the others up.
He hadn't wanted a family.
He had run from who he was and the ones he loved.
But he found more people to love him.
It wasn't until Signal showed up - having been alerted to the situation and called to the scene - that Danny let the tears drip down his face.
He was home.

The way that hangman instantly starts to regret his actions the moment the cage lifts and he can walk out is gut wrenching because you can see the fog of hatred and need for vengeance clear and he doesn’t like what he has become and what he’s done. The emotions of regret and grief are so clear as he stands there with his lip quivering and eyes starting to tear up. He just beat a man so bad that the match was called off and he doesn’t know what to do with himself or the level of violence he just enacted. His gut instinct is to go back and check on swerve but the crowd start to scream and beg him to stop because they no longer trust that he’s capable of the level of care and kindness he once was known for. The crowd that cheered, loved and supported him without question are now scared of him and what he’s capable of and he realizes that in the moment and it’s heartbreaking. And he’s going to have to come to terms with the fact that he became the monster he initially fought against and figure out who he is after this and how to move forward from it.
