Maria Hill had never celebrated her birthday before.
Not for lack of reasons.
Nor for lack of people who esteemed her.
It just wasn't her style.
Birthdays were distractions.
And distractions killed. That's how she was trained.
Since joining S.H.I.E.L.D., she had adopted a low profile even on personal dates. By the time she turned 30, she was running an operation in South Africa. At 35, he evacuated a burning base in Ukraine. The year before, he had coordinated the rescue of civilians in a war zone while completely ignoring the “happy birthday” messages Nick Fury sent him with self-edited memes.
But this year...
This year, someone had noticed.
Tumblr media
“Did you know Hill's birthday is tomorrow? “asked Tony, lying on his back on one of the lab tables.
“How do you know? “Bruce asked, without looking up from his microscope.
“I'm Tony Stark. I have access to databases, biometric systems... and your vaccination card.”
“That's illegal.”
“And aren't we all when we work with Fury?”
Natasha, who was quietly cleaning her daggers, looked up.
“Hill hates celebrations. She hates being surprised even more.”
“That makes it more fun,” Tony replied. “Let's throw her a party. Nothing ostentatious. Something elegant. Discreet. With cake.”
“Are you going to bake? “asked Clint, entering the lab with a coffee in his hand.
“Me? No, Barton. We're going to bake. This is a class S mission. Code name: ‘Operation Birthday Candles’.”
“What if he gets mad? “Sam asked.
“Hill gets mad with or without reason. At least now she'll have cake while she does it.”
They all looked at each other. Steve crossed his arms, hesitant.
“She deserves it,” he finally said. She's been in every damn mess with us. She saves our asses more than we'll admit.
“So, do we do it? “Tony raised an eyebrow.
Tumblr media
Training began at 06:00 a.m.
Jarvis provided the recipes. Wanda used her magic to stabilize the mix (when Clint accidentally dropped a bag of flour on Steve). Bruce took care of the exact chemistry of the dough. Tony led the decorating.
“No rainbows. Nothing that says “happy birthday” with little hearts. Hill is a minimalist style with elegant overtones. Think more elegant menace.”
The resulting cake was a dark chocolate sponge cake, with raspberry filling and glossy black ganache frosting. On it, in sober lettering, it read:
“One year closer to controlling the world. Congratulations, Maria Hill.”
“And the candles? “asked Peter, who had been snuck into the operation without knowing why.
“Just one. Red. Tall. Make it look like a satanic ritual, but fancy,” ordered Natasha, very convinced.
Tumblr media
The plan was simple:
Lure Hill into the briefing room with a supposed security threat.
Have the cake ready on the table, with all the Avengers present (minus Fury, who “wasn't authorized to participate because he's a nutcase” according to Tony).
Saying something that didn't make her uncomfortable.
Tumblr media
Hill entered the room, unsuspectingly. She carried a tablet in her hand, a hard look, and tense lips. Ready to solve another global crisis. But she stopped. Because what she saw was:
Clint was dressed in an apron that said “Ganache Queen.”
Steve, with the red candle in hand, was waiting for her signal to light it.
Natasha was sitting, smiling as if she hadn't committed crimes in 27 countries.
Wanda is slightly levitating the cake for drama.
And Tony, wearing a birthday hat, for no reason.
“What the hell? “muttered Hill.
“Surprise!” they all said, at different speeds. There was a second of dead silence.
“Is this an ambush? “she asked.
“No. Well, yes, technically, but not in that sense,” Sam replied. Hill narrowed his eyes.
“Who authorized this?”
“I did,” said Steve.
“And I designed it,” added Tony. “Look at that cake, Hill! It's just like you: elegant, strong, and full of dark chocolate.”
She stepped forward. She looked at the cake. Then she looked at them. And sighed.

Displaced persons camps, Germany, 1945.
They had been sent to Trier to carry out one last mission that brought them face to face with Hitler's dirty work and brought home the reality of war. The men of the Twenty-Third Headquarters Special Troops were assigned to help guard five camps for displaced persons (known as DPs) in and around Trier.
By the end of the war, millions of people in Europe had been displaced from their homes. They included victims of the Holocaust, those who had fled the fighting, and huge numbers of people forced into slave labor by the Nazis. The camps now guarded by the Twenty-Third contained tens of thousands of refugees from all over Europe.
These wretched people were officially called Displaced Persons but they were really liberated slaves of Nazi Germany. They needed food, shelter, clothes, baths, orientation and transport back to their native lands.... The DPs were divided into 26 foreign nationalities - many who hated each other - and all were feared and despised by the native Germans.
— Official History of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops
These were people who had been horribly mistreated by Hitler's regime, "and they had just gone crazy," recalled Sergeant Jack McGlynn. "One can hardly blame them. They were pillaging, they were killing people in town, and they had to be guarded so that they wouldn't kill more Germans." The assignment didn't sit well with many of the Ghost Army soldiers. Locking up the DPs (many of whom were from Allied nations) to protect the Germans (with whom they were officially still at war) seemed to have an Alice in Wonderland quality.
April 15, 1945
Russians and Poles stealing everything they can get their hands on, and I don't blame them. Resent having to guard a goddamn Heinie. Some Russians are hiding in the hills with guns and raiding the Germans at night. If we were smart we'd turn our backs.
— Diary of Sergeant Bob Tompkins
Tumblr media
Breakout by John Jarvie, 1945.
Ghost Army soldiers were posted in pairs outside the barbed wire. Corporal John Jarvie witnessed many escape attempts. "You would hear the slightest jingle on the barbed wire and flash on a light, and you'd find some guy maybe five feet away from you, crawling at you. They didn't care if they killed you to get out or just beat the hell out of you... and you'd throw a burst of Tommy gun fire across —not to hit them, to push them back in."
Tumblr media
Wittlich, Germany by William Sayles, 1945.
One night, Sergeant Tompkins and other soldiers were assigned to sleep at a local estate to protect it from marauding DPs. Some mornings he had to ride shotgun on a German farmer's milk truck to prevent the farmer from being robbed as he went about his rounds.
On April 17 six Russians from the camp in Wittlich, Germany, entered a nearby village looking for flour. Angry townspeople attacked them and killed two of the Russians. The next day, soldiers from the Twenty-Third raided the village, bringing angry Russian DPs with them to identify the wrongdoers.
April 19, 1945
Russians went first and when crowd came out with pitchforks, Jeeps with 50's [.50-caliber machine guns] closed in. Russians choked hell out of Heinies and Tony [Young] let loose with 50's to stop Heinies from running away.
— Diary of Sergeant Bob Tompkins
A villager with a pitchfork ran at Private Charles Boulliane but was tackled by a Russian DP. Six Germans were arrested. The refugees wanted the GIs to take more aggressive action in incidents of this sort. "They wonder why we don't shoot the Germans," wrote Bob Tompkins. "I wonder myself."
Tumblr media
A Comrade ‘45 by Edward Boccia, 1945.
Sergeant Victor Dowd couldn't believe it when he got orders to lead a patrol into the countryside to round up another batch of Russian DPs who had escaped and were stealing food from villagers. "Talk about ludicrous. Now the army is going crazy. They want us to capture Russians because they are harassing Germans. Don't they remember that we were shooting at the Germans just a little while ago, and more importantly, they were killing us?" Searching through the woods, 45 in hand, Dowd came across a Russian whom he judged to be just about the same age as he was. The man surrendered voluntarily, "for which I'm very grateful, because I don't know how I would have handled the dilemma of having to shoot somebody whom I considered my ally."
On another such expedition, Private Buzz Senat did shoot two Russian teenagers who had been terrorizing German families in the vicinity. "These two kids were shot in this forest, lying on the floor like sacks of flour," recalled Corporal Jack Masey, "and we had to throw them on a truck. They were dead. I never quite recovered from that." Masey had just been through one of the most horrible wars in history. But perhaps because this incident happened when the war and the killing were all but over, this incident shook him up more than anything else that had happened. "I'm nineteen or twenty. Here they are. They're sixteen. What kind of a blow is this? What kind of fate are we dealing with? Why am I the lucky one, and why are they the unlucky ones?"
Tumblr media
Map created in 1945 depicting the DP camps guarded by the Twenty-Third Headquarters Special Troops.
Things were little better inside the barbed wire. Several of the camps contained both Russians and Poles. "They hated each other's guts," recalled Bob Tompkins, "and they were killing each other every night. And we were supposed to control things. And we'd had no experience in police matters, and so there was a lot of chaos at night." The Russian DPs used stolen potatoes to distill a powerful homemade vodka that fueled the problem. Food was in chronically short supply. Officers went into Trier and gave the mayor a list of foodstuffs required to feed the DPs. The next day they brought trucks down into town, but there was almost no food available. The mayor said the people in his town simply did not have any food to spare. Lieutenant Gil Seltzer remembered that one of the officers told the mayor that if the food wasn't there the next day, the Americans would open the gates of the camp and let the DPs loose upon the city. By the following morning, all the requested food had been supplied. Eventually the army started trucking in rations.

Olga by James Steg, 1945; Maria by Ned Harris, 1945.
One of the goals of the Allied forces was to repatriate the displaced people to their homelands. But many of the Russians did not want to go. "A lot were fearful of returning," said Victor Dowd. "Maybe they knew more than we did about what lay in store for them." Jack Masey had the unpleasant duty of getting the Russian refugees to board trains that would take them back to Moscow. "We noticed that they didn't want to get on these trains. 'You're going home— aren't you happy? 'No, we don't want to go home." The DPs had heard rumors, which turned out to be all too true, about the circumstances that likely awaited them. Joseph Stalin's paranoia led the Soviet dictator to suspect all Russian soldiers and civilians captured by the Germans of being collaborators. (He had his own daughter-in-law arrested when his son was captured by the Germans.) Those who headed back would most likely face harsh interrogation, imprisonment in the Gulag, or execution. They didn't want to go. "And these were families, maybe a husband and wife and kid, not wanting to get on these trains," recalled Masey with some anguish. "We forced them on the trains."
Tumblr media
May Day parade at DP camp.
Their assignment guarding the DP camps extended into early May. By this time the Russians had been separated from the Poles. A Soviet army officer who had arrived on the scene encouraged the DPs to stage a May Day parade with banners and singing. Several Ghost Army officers, including Lieutenant Fred Fox, stood on a reviewing platform featuring a large picture of Stalin. Smiles seemed to be missing all around.

I make a lot of playlists. I've made two for Terminal, an upcoming digital pirate action game coming to Kickstarter on July 20th (written by me, illustrated by Gormengeist, edited by Alyssa Ridley).
There's lot of different reasons I'll make a playlist. Capturing a mood, something to create a certain mood, processing feelings. I make playlists for most books I do and they're usually doing one of those others for me as well.
This post I'll share both playlists and run through one which will also work as a sneak peak at the game.
The first playlist (the Digital Pirate Action mix) is a long sprawling one that I keep adding to. It's stuff that feels like Terminal vibes, whatever that means. It's lot of alternative hip hop, dark ambient, harsh noise, some pop songs and then songs from various influences sprinkled in. There's a character in Terminal called The Hedonist, an obsolete program and pirate contact who runs a nightclub for others who've escaped deletion. I imagine the Digital Pirate Action mix as what's playing in her club.
The second playlist (Enter the Terminal) I made more recently, after a conversation on a yet-to-be-released episode of This is Your Lifepath where we talked about music. In this case it's a linear playlist where each sings maos to aspect of the book. It's less concerned with being a cohesive listening experience and more about whatever songs reminded me of different things.
Gonna do a run through of this second playlist and explain some of my thoughts, also because it's a useful way to preview the game.
Song 1 - Break the Glass by Clipping.
This is essentially a mood setter. I think of it like an opening credits song. The repeated refrane of "wake up", lines about "life binary in Morse code". I was thinking of unreality.
Song 2 - Gospel for a New Century by Yves Turner
This song I'm also thinking about breaking from the simulation.
Tumblr media
Song 3 - A Drop of Nelson's Blood by Jarvis Cocker
I needed a sea shanty (in this case a cover of a sea shanty) to set the mood in the Wake, the real world. Long ago, before anyone can remember, the robots and humanity shattered the moon and the world flooded, reshaping landmasses. Now the pirates of Libertatia, those who've awoken from the simulation, battle the Robot Authority on the waves.
Tumblr media
Song 4 - Road to Hell II from Hadestown
In the world of Terminal there is story of the omen, someone who emerges in each iteration of the Terminal with extraordinary power. They use this to battle the system and hope to overthrow it. They have always failed. This song choice reflects, the idea of trying again, in the hope things might turn out different this time.
Tumblr media
Song 5 - Saint by Deaf Havana
For this song I was thinking a lot about the pressure the pirates are under. Specifically I ended up thinking about Captain Breach, the chair of the Captain's Council, who has this position at what is going to be a pivotal moment in Libertatia's history.
Song 6 - Miracle by CHVRCHES
I wanted a song to represent the character of The Seer, a program with the power of precognition, who often aids the pirates but is ultimately still a routine part of the Terminal's function and so is difficult to trust.
It was hard to find a song that really fit, and honestly this doesn't feel like it fits perfectly but I think I'm almost imagining from the perspective of a pirate wanting to feel trust.
Song 7 - I'm Beginning to Think You Prefer Beverly Hills to Me by Fight Like Apes
This was about the aforementioned Hedonist. An upbeat song about firing fit their attitude to being declared obsolete. She intends to dance to the night away until the curtain falls, rather than fighting back.
The Hedonist's starting point of inspiration was the character of the Merovingian from the Matrix sequels. Her role in the world ended up drawing from Carrie Ann Moss's character in Mass Effect 2. They also, in my interpretation of them, ended up having some Jareth the Goblin King vibes. She's one of the NPCs I end up thinking about a lot.
Song 8 - Not in This World by Kids in Glass Houses
A campaign of Terminal begins with the startup operation Run, Atalanta, Run, a scenario designed to introduce players to how the game plays and the world as a whole as well as sparking the overall campaign. It involves your crew trying to help free a restless sleeper known as Atalanta. It's the thing in the book thats going for the plot of the first Matrix film the most.
I was thinking of the character Atalanta with this song choice. The lyrics "Don't wanna see, I want an ocean, and all of the madness, so give me your worst" feels very them.
Song 9 - Heel Turn 2 by The Mountain Goats
The major scenario arcs in Terminal are called Crashes, and each could escalate to the point of being the games finale. I picked a song for each crash.
Heel Turn 2 is for Curations of The Archivist. The crew faces of again an obsolete program who's former role involved cataloging everything important in an iteration. Now they turn to capturing and freezing everything they find value in, eventually threatening to cause enough instalibity to kill everyone in the system.
Heel Turn 2 felt appreciate for this bitter character lashing out.
Tumblr media
Song 10 - Zero Zero by Gerard Way
The Crash Multiplied by 0 involves faxing off against the titular 0, a former special agent turned living virus who threatens to assimilate the entire Terminal (their analog should be fairly obvious to anyone who's seen the Matrix films).
This was an on the nose song choice but the refrain of "Call me zero you are zero" is pretty perfect for the way they assimilate others.
Tumblr media
Song 11 - Frankenstein by Rina Sawayama
Corruptions of The Passenger involves facing a new plot by the Robot Authority, involving a program who can hack into pirates mind and leave bots that take over. The first known hacked pirates is Orpheus, appropriately named for their failure to avoid looming back.
I love the album Hold the Girl so much. I think this placement here is almost imagining this as from Orpheus to The Passenger.
Song 12 - The World We Knew from Sayonara Wild Hearts
The Dying Dream is where a lot of the games Paprika influence is. The crew venture into a firewalled off domain where nightmares have begun to bleed from the mind of a dying sleeper. Much of the dreams fixate on the fears and regrets of the sleeper which led to me picking this song from Sayanora Wild Hearts.
Tumblr media
Song 13 - Born to Lose by Jenny Owen Youngs
The Twin Peaks influence I may have mentioned before is sprinkled throughout the game, sometimes in direct riffs like the character of The Arm in the Dying Dream, but also in general vibes and logic of certain places like The Seer's domain. The Crash Tortures of The Killer draws some influence from Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet, and involves The Killer, a disgusting program deployed by The Puppeteer, threatening lingering threads to the crews sleeping past.
The lyrics "Somewhere in the night, a man is standing by/With a deal you won't be able to refuse/No, you can't call him, but expect your phone to ring/And brother, you prepare yourself to/Offer up what you were born to lose" reflects the way The Puppeteer wants to blackmail the crew into doing their bidding.
Song 14 - Life on Land by Dessa
The Crash Sailor's Warning is the only Crash taking place mostly in the Wake, the real world. It involves tensions at the heart of Libertatia, and challenges the crews relationships with their pirate comrades.
Using a song called Life on Land for this Crash is partly being cutesy but also a lot of the song does feel like it drives at the mindset of the central NPC Captain Wail.
Tumblr media
(Not related to Sailor's Warning but the lines "I'm just a girl, in the body of a boy, in the belly of a whale" also really brought to mind transness in Terminal specifically.)
Song 15 - Volunteer DJ by Fishboy
[ERROR//PERMISSION DENIED//OPERATION ENCRYPTED//ALTER EGO CONTROLS REQUIRED]
Ok so I won't say what this song relates to textually, but thematically I was thinking about the last and what gets left behind.
Song 16 - Black Wave by K.flay
So as mentioned before any of the Crashes can become the games finale, the Total System Crash, where as well as defeating the central threat you'll determine the fate of Libertatia and this iteration of the Terminal. This song fits for facing something as immense as the fate of two worlds and also musically fits for like a final montage as you prepare for the last showdown.
Tumblr media
Song 17 - There is a Place for You Here by Left at London
Figured the last song on this playlist is almost like an end credits song for the book. The lyrics remind me of some of the more emotional and subtextual themes of the game.
Tumblr media
Like I said, less musically cohesive then the other playlist, like very much made up of songs I listened to a lot that I linked to different things. Probably also influenced by my mood when I made it, which was kinda depressed over some personal life things. It's got a more melancholy tone then the playlist I made have made a week before or a week after.
Anyway so that's two playlists about Terminal, which as a reminder is coming to Kickstarter on July 20th. Please follow the pre-launch at terminal.ratwave.uk and back when we go live!

Review: Never Hike Alone: The Ghost Cut (2020)
Never Hike Alone: The Ghost Cut (2020)
Not rated
Tumblr media
<Originally posted at https://kevinsreviewcatalogue.blogspot.com/2023/10/review-never-hike-alone-ghost-cut-2020.html>
Score: 4 out of 5
If you've read my, or anybody else's, reviews of the Friday the 13th series, you'd know that it has a very spotty track record. The first movie is hardly most people's pick for the best in the series, the fact that there were more than twice as many films after the one titled The Final Chapter than before it has made the series the butt of jokes about horror franchises that get run into the ground, and nearly half the movies in this series range from just mediocre to borderline unwatchable. In short, it's an iconic slasher series where it wouldn't take much to make a movie that's around the middle of the pack quality-wise where its installments are concerned. And given the long legal battle that plagued this series for much of the 2010s, leave it to the fans to make just such a film. Never Hike Alone: The Ghost Cut is an anthology-style compilation of three Friday fan films by Womp Stomp Films that together range from pretty good to one of the most inspired things ever done with the idea of a big guy in a hockey mask hacking people up with a machete. It's a labor of love that (being a non-commercial fan film) is free to watch online, and which I highly recommend doing.
The film starts with a music video called "Disappear", a darkly humorous opening where Jason Voorhees hacks up three teenagers who ventured into the ruins of Camp Crystal Lake to drink and screw, all soundtracked by the titular acoustic guitar song by Trevor Vaughan. It sets the mood very nicely, playing right into our expectations of what a Friday movie is and delivering exactly that, while also examining just what Jason might be like in his "downtime" when he's not hacking people to bits. The second segment, Never Hike in the Snow, started out strong by showing Jason in an environment that's new to him: the winter, chasing and killing a young man named Mark Hill through the snowy woods. It starts off strong with a great buildup to a great kill, though as it went on it became the weakest segment in the film by my estimation, turning increasingly disjointed with plots about the sheriff Rick Cologne (a returning character from Jason Lives played by the same actor, Vincent Guastaferro) comforting the victim's mother, the same sheriff having to deal with Tommy Jarvis (again, returning from Jason Lives with Thom Mathews reprising his role) as news of the murder causes him to come out of the woodwork suspecting that Jason is back, and a scene of a hapless deputy going into the woods searching for clues as to Mark's murder. Each scene was exceptionally well-shot even by the standards of a professionally produced film, let alone a fan flick, but while there were interesting ideas, especially in the scene with the mother, it didn't come together particularly well.
Fortunately, the film spent the next hour with its best part by far, its titular centerpiece originally filmed and released in 2017 and later included with the other two segments as the "Ghost Cut". This is mostly a one-man show in which a hiking influencer named Kyle McLeod ventures into the trails of the Wessex County forest, stumbles upon Camp Crystal Lake, and must fight for survival against Jason. Much of the first half is a slow burn as Kyle ventures deeper and deeper into Jason's turf, with growing clues that something isn't right, from the coyotes wailing in the distance one night to the "No Trespassing" sign he encounters to various signs of the carnage past at the long-abandoned camp. It's an effective buildup that's paid off wonderfully when Jason himself shows up to kick ass and take names. He's played here by the film's director Vincente DeSanti, and watching him, I felt something I had only rarely felt in the past watching the Friday films: genuinely afraid of Jason. All too often, Jason gets portrayed as a crowd-pleasing mascot who the film not-so-secretly sides with as he takes out the trash, rendering him less a monster than a roguish anti-hero of sorts. Not here. This movie portrays him as a mean, brutish, no-nonsense, and surprisingly cunning villain who could probably kill you with his bare hands, let alone his machete, and who you absolutely do not want to mess around with. It helped that Drew Leighty as Kyle was a guy who I could easily root for. He may be a YouTuber, but the film avoids making him an obnoxious caricature for the sake of it, with scenes of him grumbling about the spon-con deal he's doing with the company that made the collapsible shovel he's carrying. And when push comes to shove towards the end, he turns into a real-deal survivor who feels like a genuine match for Jason. I wanted to see this guy live and prevail, which was more than I could say for a lot of the people who've crossed paths with Jason, and that fact made me fear what Jason was trying to do to him that much more.
The Bottom Line
It's rare for a fan film to be this good, but Never Hike Alone: The Ghost Cut manages to be not only better than a lot of the actual Friday the 13th films, but a damn good horror movie in its own right. Even if you're not a Friday fan, I still recommend giving this one a look, especially since it's free and easily accessible.

One line, one fic
Rules: pick any 10 of your fics, scroll somewhere to the mid point, pick a line, and share it! Then tag 10 people.
I was tagged by the wonderful doctorhelena
Here are lines (okay, sometimes more than one) from the middlish of each story.
1.
Mid-week Mornings at the New York Bell Company and Summer Evenings in Manhattan
(An Agent Carter fic)
From chapter 2 of 3:
One or two agents still resented having been knocked out by Peggy’s fists – and the occasional, frisbeed dinner plate – but the prevailing attitude towards her fighting prowess was one of self-deprecating approbation: the humorous refrain, ‘Or we could just send Carter,’ was often heard in the bullpen when an assignment demanded maximum manpower.
2.
A Safe Community for Modern, Female Professionals
(An Agent Carter fic)
From chapter 3 of 5:
Startled, Angie realised that she had read by accident half of the first paragraph, and that this was a private thing of Peggy’s that she had no right to (just like the flunky shouldn’t have been handling Peggy’s pretty, satin nightie).
3.
An Unexpected Detour on the Way to Saving the World
(An Avengers: Endgame|Agent Carter fic)
From chapter 6 of 12:
Steve waited patiently, and Tony took the opportunity to announce his right to the seat next to the driver: as a kid he had always asked to ride up front with Mr Jarvis, and now that he was a fifty-three-year-old, flying superhero with a time machine, no one got to tell him that he was too short and he belonged in the back. (Besides, he wanted to leave the backseat free so that Cap could sit next to Peggy.)
4.
A Somebody I'm Longin' to See
(An Agent Carter fic)
From chapter 3 of 5:
The idea of Angie patronising Eve’s on Greenwich Avenue, and the idea of her ‘liking girls that way,’ revisited Peggy often in the weeks that followed. It felt like a confusing, entangled concept, intriguing and unsettling at the same time.
5.
Answering the Call
(An Avengers: Endgame | Steggy fic)
From chapter 1 of 1:
Whilst in 2023 no one would give a second thought to an unmarried woman having a man to stay with her in her home, he knew that in 1949 this was definitely not the case. He did not want to risk Peggy’s reputation for the sake of his own, selfish comfort.
I’ve run out of finished-and-posted Agent Carter / Captain America fics, so here are two from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fics (the first of which also draws on CA:TWS)
6.
Secrets Told and Kept
(An Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. | Maria Hill | Philinda fic)
From chapter 2 of 4:
Maria was too reserved, too little accustomed to flirtation, to feel at ease with either flagrant deception or seduction (although Agent Brett Morris did once reassure her, during their mercifully short partnership, that she ‘definitely had the equipment.’) But this type of play-acting was in any case best suited to brief ambushes, what Fury dubbed the ‘Peggy Method,’ of ‘fluttering her eyelashes, then beating people with a chair.’
(So I’m cheating a bit here, because this isn’t quite the middle, but I thought people likely to read this post would appreciate the Peggy Carter reference.)
7.
An Appropriate Reprimand
(An Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fic)
From chapter 1 of 1:
Skye, a veteran of many childhood misdemeanours and punishments, raised her chin defiantly. Jemma, a veteran of consistent top-of-the-class performance, screwed up her face in terrified anticipation.
Sticking with posted fic rather than wips, here are a couple of little bits from my two completed Jane Austen fics
8.
The Trials and Triumphs of the Unmarried Sister
(A Persuasion | Pride and Prejudice crossover fic)
From chapter 4 of 7:
Miss Bingley was not to be pitied. Georgiana Darcy might be an heiress with thirty thousand pounds, but she was also a mere chit of a girl, who was so artless as to wish for nothing more than the approbation of her older brother, and so simple as to consider herself fortunate to be marrying a clergyman.

Miss Elliott at Home
(A Persuasion ‘missing chapter’ fic)
From chapter 1 of 1:
Here he seemed struck by a sudden thought, and he looked around the room, then lowered his voice. “And bye the bye, Frederick, I think you might consider yourself fortunate in time, that the young lady, whose name I never recall, did choose the other fellow. For we sailors must seek out a wife who will look before leaping, and who is not so flighty that she will regret the life of the sea once the deed is done. And I’m afraid we can have little use for ladies who jump about and break their heads – however pretty their faces may be!”
10.
So number 10 is a total wild card. It’s from the very first fanfic I ever attempted, which I never finished or posted. It literally goes back decades. This is an X-Files fic, effectively a season 8-AU, in which Mulder still gets abducted, but Doggett is in denial about having some kind of psychic abilities: he keeps getting flashes from Mulder’s and Scully’s past/ memeories, which he doesn’t want and can’t control, whilst he’s working with Scully investigating Mulder’s disappearance.
This isn’t even really from the middle, but hey, it’s unfinished, so who’s to say where the middle is? I am including this mostly because I think I’m more likely to get abducted by aliens than ever finish writing this story, so here are several lines of dialogue, which are very unlikely ever to the light of day otherwise!
From Untitled X-Files WIP, consisting of 4, equally unfinished chapters:
“Oh, come on, Mulder: reincarnation, ghosts, walk-ins, vampires, zombies?  You must envisage having a pretty busy schedule in the afterlife.  I don’t know how your soul is going to fit it all in.”
He grinned appreciatively.  “Vampires don’t have souls, Scully.  Don’t you watch Buffy?”
She half-smiled.  He watched her in the dim light of the car.  “You’re not really worried about my immortal soul, are you, Scully?  Because, you know, you’re a Roman Catholic and I’m a half-Jewish atheist with a propensity to embrace a wide variety of Dark-Age superstitions without rationale or consistency.  Somehow, I don’t think we’re going to get to spend eternity together.”
“Why would you say that?” she asked softly.
If you are still here, thanks for reading this post. I had fun putting it together, so thank you for the tag from doctorhelena, whose stories I love. ❤️

It takes quite a bit of effort -- and some outstanding teamwork that Tony didn’t think he and Rogers would be capable of -- but they manage to break the helicarrier.
Hang on, that came out wrong.
To clarify [because Fury will undoubtedly be on Tony’s ass about this]: They don’t set out to break the helicarrier. But Barton, it turns out, is a damn talented saboteur and while Tony and Rogers successfully intercept his minions before they can get their hands on some of the very secret alien weapons SHIELD should’ve never gotten its hands on, they are way too late to do anything about the control center.
Or the rampaging Hulk. Who, if JARVIS is to be trusted -- who is always to be trusted because it’s JARVIS -- got into a screaming match with Thor. Wonderful.
Saving the helicarrier is a lost cause but they manage to break only part of it off -- the part they’re on because why wouldn’t they be -- so there’s a good 60% chance that not all of SHIELD’s top-of-the-top agents died in the crash.
Solid win for the good guys that.
[continues under the cut]
Sarcasm aside, they’re all alive. Tony caught Rogers -- not a fucking team player, ha --, Hulk is pretty hard to kill to the surprise of absolutely no one, save perhaps Ross, Thor and a very concussed-looking Loki can get downed by Captain America’s shield but are too godly-Asgardian-whatever to be phased by falling a couple of kilometers through the air and Romanoff just shows up amidst the rumble, covered in dirt, an ugly bruise on her jaw, blood tickling down her neck and the unconscious shape that is probably Barton slung over her shoulder.
Tony doesn’t even ask.
He’s too busy staring down Hulk. “Aren’t you supposed to be bigger?”
Instead of snarling, squashing him or whatever rage monsters do when they are told they aren’t impressive enough, Hulk claps his hands. “Tin man back!” he booms. “Hulk happy!”
Tony takes a wary step back. If Hulk tries to hug him too then big fan of the green guy or not, he’s taking to the sky and never coming back down again. Tony’s more than filled his hug-quota for the month, possibly for the year. And also people need to stop being so damn enthusiastic to see him, it’s gonna give him a complex.
Thankfully, there’s plenty of other people around him to serve as a distraction. Rogers for one is brushing already taking in their surroundings. Thankfully they’ve landed in an unhabitated, random hill in the middle of nowhere. The last thing Tony needs is more civilian causalities on his head. That said, he doesn’t recognize much of anything within eyesight, which isn’t promising.
Sure, his suit can probably get him out of here, but that still leaves a supersoldier, two secret agents and two Asgardians -- after Thor’s insistence on the term, Tony’s gonna stick with it, even if ‘god’ would freak more people out, see how well he’s taking other people’s feelings into consideration? -- unaccounted for. Plus the Hulk. But getting Big Green anywhere he doesn’t want to go would be impossible anyway.
“You alright there, Cap?”
“I’ll live.” Rogers grins at him, a little more tired and still with that same shadow that Tony can’t properly identify, but real nonetheless. Urgh. This much genuine happiness can’t be healthy. “Thanks for the help, Stark. You did good.”
Tony shrugs. “Hey, I’m all for team spirit and all that shit, ask anyone.” What else is he supposed to say?
Rogers snorts. Turns around to face Thor, who is carrying Loki towards them. Their future evil alien overlord doesn’t look too good up close, pale and haggard, with dark shadows under his eyes that would give Tony at his first post-Afghanistan depression a run for their money.
Not a record any sane person wants to beat.
“Everything alright with your brother?”
Tony’s impressed how casual Rogers makes the question sound. It’s impossible to tell if he’s concerned about Loki’s welfare or subtly requesting information on his mental state or even demanding a report about potential trouble. Well done.
“Nothing he won’t recover from.” The expression on Thor’s face is hard to read, almost blank, but the way his grip around Loki tightens is a tell on its own.
Sternly reminding himself that he’s not gonna involve himself in Norse god drama -- again -- Tony catches Romanoff’s eyes and nods towards her carry-on. “Barton good as well?”
“He’ll be fine.” She says evenly. A threat if Tony has ever heard one.
“Good.”
They both turn back towards the rest of the group. Even Hulk has joined them, perfectly content to just stand there and casually crush what’s left of the wreck inside his left hand. A powermove if Tony’s ever seen one -- really, if Tony didn’t already have his precious honeybear he’d claim Hulk as his best friend in a heartbeat. No second thoughts. Plenty of regrets. For other people, that is.
“Well, we’re all alive so that’s great.” Rogers rubs the back of his neck, wincing like he’s just realized how depressing that sounds. Shoots Loki an anything-but-inconspicious look. “I guess we should get back to the Tower, just in case.”
“What tower?” Tony asks over Thor’s agreement and Romanoff’s raised eyebrows -- they’re very loud raised eyebrows, okay.
Rogers freezes. The look on his face bears a weird resemblance to how Rhodey looked that one time Tony caught him with a Hammer gun.
“Uhm. Stark Tower?”
Tony crosses his arms in front of his chest. “Why would we go there?”
Why would they even go to NYC? They already have Loki, even if he doesn’t look particularly chained up from where Tony’s standing and they’ve even gotten some of the brainwashed minions back. Shouldn’t they focus on the Tesseract now? Or barring that on pissing off Fury into telling them what else besides hella-illegal-if-anyone-knew-about-it weapons manifacturing they haven’t been told?
“...to regroup?” Rogers asks slowly.
Tony gives him the look that statement deserves.
“That sounds like a sensible course of action,” Thor adds. “And I would like to leave my brother in a place where he can rest.”
What high-level security cell wasn’t chill enough? Tony swallows that comment at the last second, vaguely remembering the protective fevor Thor has shown in defense of his brother and not at all eager to become its target.
“Hulk sleep,” Hulk says, not being much of a help at all.
Romanoff’s eyebrows judge them all.
“It’s decided then!” Rogers claps his hands, blatantly ignoring the lack of agreement from the sanest two people present. “Let’s go see if we can find a car to hotwire.”
Tony stares after him. “I can’t believe Captain fucking America just said ‘see if we can find a car to hotwire’.”
Romanoff scoffs, even as her gaze flickers restlessly back and forth between Rogers, Hulk and Thor and Loki. “I can’t believe they call him the man with a plan.”
“Well, no one said it had to be a good plan.”
“Don’t worry,” Rogers calls out over his shoulder, cool as a cucumber and doing a terrible job of concealing the amusement in his tone, “if a giant hole appears in the sky, you and Thor get to play flying taxi.”
Tony exchanges a glance with Romanoff -- not an easy thing to do considering his faceplate is still up -- and says quietly. “The scary thing is I can’t tell if he’s joking or not.”
“He’s not,” Romanoff deadpans.

Wait in your analysis you said wanda not only mindcontrolled the avengers but some other people too in age of ultron. I don't remember her doing it to someone else? when was this? if this is true then I have no idea how she's even considered a hero wtf
If you remember, there’s a brief time where Wanda and Pietro worked with Ultron, during this time, Steve asked Hill where they were and she says this:
Maria Hill: He's all over the globe. Robotics labs, weapons facilities, jet propulsion labs, reports of a metal man, or men, coming in and emptying the place. Maria Hill: Mostly guys left in a fugue state going on about old memories, worst fears, and something too fast to see. Steve Rogers: Maximoffs.
In simple words, all over the globe, while Ultron and Pietro stole military weaponry, propulsion lab equipment, robotic parts, and more, Wanda mind-controlled the people in those facilities. Ultron did this because he wanted to mass-produce the Ultron sentries created by HYDRA and also, some of them assisted Helen Cho (mind-controlled) in activating Vision.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This also means that Wanda was indeed right, 80% of what happened to Sokovia was her fault and Pietro’s ('How could I let this happen? This is all our fault’), leaving aside the obvious one (Ultron), since those sentries were the ones that destroyed and killed half the citizens of Sokovia:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I want to add, @deehellcat raised a pretty good point the other day in one of my posts:
@deehellcat: In AOU both Tony and Bruce explicitly say they do not know how Ultron came to life because they had been working to make it happen, but could not. We all know Tony is notorious for taking blame for stuff he couldn’t have had anything to do with. Yeah, he said Ultron was his fault, and partly maybe it was, but he did not create Ultron. From all appearances, the Mind Stone itself did. Which brings to my mind the question of whether Wanda is in some way an avatar of it, but we won’t get into all that right now.
Thor mentions that Ultron and Vision’s powers all came from the Mind Stone but only one was corrupted. Wanna guess why? Tony and Bruce wondered what they missed while working on the program and Jarvis told them that he was going to continue to run variations on the interface and any developments because they were unsuccessful in creating Ultron.
This was also confirmed in Infinity War where Shuri asks Bruce why didn’t they just reprogram the synapses to work collectively. Bruce explained that they had to attach each neuron non-sequentially, meaning that Tony and Bruce couldn’t program the A.I.’s polymorphic structure by themselves. Something or someone else did it for them. The sentience integration trials were unsuccessful and even Jarvis didn’t know what triggered his activation, couldn’t read how Ultron blocked the mainframe and finally rendered the program as a ‘malfunction’. Then the Avengers were scared that Ultron was going to find military’s nuclear codes while he was free, but he couldn’t do it because someone didn’t let him find those: JARVIS. Ultron attacked Jarvis because he was scared of what the A.I. could do, so Jarvis went underground. Ultron didn’t even detect Jarvis when he was still operating. Why? Because both work on a different matrix. Tony and Bruce had to reconfigure Jarvis' matrix to fit Vision.
And as we saw in Wandavision, at first, Wanda wasn’t really conscious about what she was doing, it was her chaos magic reacting to her whims. Hill (AOU) mentions that Wanda’s powers (under the impression that those were enhancements and not a mutation) are neural-electric interfacing, telekinesis, mental manipulation and more, but how is it possible that she can manipulate those and commands them like an expert if she doesn’t understand them? As agatha said: ‘It’s magic on autopilot’. At the beginning of AOU, Wanda mind-controls Tony;
Ultron: But you needed something more than a man. That's why you let Stark take the scepter. Wanda Maximoff: I saw Stark's fear, I knew it would control him, make him self-destruct. Ultron: Everyone creates the thing they dread.
And the first thing Ultron says to the Avengers at his activation is this:
Ultron: I'm sorry, I was asleep. Or...I was a-dream?
Wanda Maximoff: I can read him. He is dreaming.
Then Cho explains that those are not called dreams, It's Ultron's base consciousness. Wanda previously stated she couldn’t read Ultron’s mind but she can do it with Vision. This is probably because Ultron’s consciousness comes from her very own magic; something even Wanda can’t understand.
And notice the way he talks about life in general:
Ultron: But, down in the real world we're faced with ugly choices. Ultron: How could you be worthy? You're all killers. Ultron: There's only one path to peace: The Avengers' extinction  Ultron: I had strings, but now I'm free. There are no strings on me, no strings on me. This quote with what Agatha told Wanda: ‘You're making her say this. She's your meat puppet, I just cut her strings.’ Ultron: Men of peace create engines of war. Ultron: You think I'm one of Stark's puppets, his hollow men? I mean look at me, do I look like Iron Man? Stark is nothing! Don't compare me with Stark! he's a sickness!
Ultron tells her that he’s ‘come to save the world’ and he accused the Avengers of not wanting to change the world ‘You want to protect the world, but you don't want it to change’, similar to what Wanda told Agatha about joining and volunteering for HYDRA; ‘We wanted to change the world’. It’s kinda funny because Wanda told Steve that Tony doesn’t really know the difference between saving the world and destroying it, and I think that was her. She was describing herself. This would also explain Ultron’s gigantic hate for Tony. It doesn’t directly come from him. It comes from Wanda.
She saw this and was scared, but at the end she smiled:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(there’s seriously something dark going on inside of her lmaoo)
Thor: If you believe in peace, then let us keep it. Ultron: I think you're confusing peace with quiet.
-
Citizens of West-view: When you let us sleep, we have your nightmares. Wanda: That's not true. I've kept you safe in here. You feel...You feel at peace.  Citizens: No. We feel your pain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here she’s trying to convince them that she was helping them, that they felt peace and that she kept them safe. And after they denied this and told her they were in pain, she actually attacked them.
Wanda Maximoff: Ultron can't tell the difference between saving the world and destroying it. Where do you think he gets that? (YOU lmaoooo)
Wanda is more powerful than Doctor Strange (confirmed in WV) and Vision (confirmed in WV and Civil War), it’s not unreasonable to think it was her who activated and created the integration of the corrupted consciousness of what Ultron was, since she can also recreate Vision with her chaos magic too.

Reckless
The Winter Solider
Master List
2014
It had been a while since you had been back to the Avengers tower. Once SHIELD got all official after the Battle of New York, they got a big fancy building in DC. You decided to keep an apartment at the tower but honestly spent most of your time now in DC. Now though, you had been forced back by Steve. All because of a broken leg. It didn’t even happen on a mission, although that might have been better. You were sparing with another agent when a mistake happened and your left leg was broken. Steve nearly took the guys head off when he heard you scream. Somehow between the pain you got Steve to focus on you. After all it wasn’t the others guy’s fault.
The doctors put you in a cast and told you to use the crutches for at least 3 months. Then they would reevaluate the leg. Steve caught you once without your crutches and set you back to New York. It forced you to take your job slower and you couldn’t do as much. Plus, Tony and Bruce kept an eye on you. After a week there, Tony broke down and figured out how to make an exoskeleton cast. This way you could get around more easily and hopefully complain less. After some trial and error, and the ok from the doctor, you had a brace. It came up around your thigh and had a plate that slid under your foot. The knee joint move freely but the ankle was locked, but could be loosened as you healed.
“Well it looks like your leg is pretty well healed agent.” It was almost three months to the day.
“Thank god.”
“I would still recommend the brace for another month but the ankle can be set to move freely.”
“Awesome. I’ll get Tony to do that.” The doctor at the tower was so much nicer than at SHIELD. Probably because they were ex-military docs. They somehow always were dicks.
“I’ll want to see you again in a month. But other than that you are free to go.” You hopped of the bed and shook the doctors hand.
“Thanks again. I appreciate you working with me.”
“You didn’t give me much of a choice.” He raised an eyebrow. To which you just shrugged your shoulders and headed out. The doctor just laughed as you walked out the door.
“Hey Jarvis. Let Tony know I’m on my way down!” It took all you had not to skip down the hall.
“Certainly Miss yln.”
As you reached the elevator you grabbed your phone to let Steve know how your leg was and maybe drop the hint about getting back to your regular work. Before you could type your message, number came up on your screen.
“Speak of the devil! I was just about to text you. I got the all clear from the doc.”
“That’s good yn.” His voices sounded off.
“What’s wrong Steve? How’d the mission go?”
“It was complicated.” He let out a sigh over the phone.
“How complicated?” Suddenly the conversation was serious. You changed the floor you were headed to, now going to your apartment.
“What do you know about something call Project Insight?”
“I’ve never heard of it.” The door to the elevator opened and you walked down the hall.
“Fury showed it to me. I need you to see if you can find anything out about it. Something doesn’t feel right.”
“Sure. Hang on a sec while I get my computer up and running.” You sat down at your desk. Setting the phone down and putting Steve on speaker. If something did sit right with him, it was trouble. You learned quick to trust Steve gut.
“Alright let’s see what I can find.” A quick search of shield records didn’t provide much.
“All I can see is that there is a file under that name but it pretty high clearance. Like Fury and a few others. What is it?” You kept click through files that you could open while listening to Steve.
“He’s got three helicarriers. At armed to the nines. He said it’s a way to neutralize threats before they happen.”
“What? So shield is building their own nuclear deterrent? How is Fury ok with that?”
“I don’t know. Can you see anything else?”
“No Steve. Not without hacking in and they would know it was me. I doubt even the people working on it know what they are building.”
“Ok. Well I’m going to have to do some more digging around here.”
“I can come down there Steve. My leg is fine.”
“No yn. Just stay there. Keep digging though files and see what you can find.”
“Ok. Be careful Steve.”
“You too sweetheart.”
You spent the rest of the night combing through any file you could get your hands on. Tony came up sometime after dinner. He was going to yell at you for not eating or coming down to have him loosen your brace. But changed his mind when he saw the mess around you on the desk. Instead he went back and grabbed you a plate. Pulling you away for only a moment so you could eat and he could take care of the brace.
“So how bad is it kiddo?”
“I don’t know Tony. The more I dig the more inaccuracies I find in all kinds of files.” You stared at the computer twirling your fork. “I think I might head down to DC.”
“Well I’ll get a jet ready for you. It’ll be on standby.” He stood from his seat and walked to the door. “And what is it the Rogers always tell you? He gave another pause and you turned to him. That’s right! Don’t do anything stupid of reckless yn.” With that he was out the door.
You took one more look at the computer before standing up and heading to the bed. If shit was about to hit the fan you at least need to get some rest.
Apparently you needed more than you thought. It was almost 8am when you finally woke up. You decided against breakfast for the moment. You checked for phone for any messages then hit the shower. After your shower, you started to pack your bag. A change of regular clothes along with your tac suit. Some toiletries and a few extras. Lastly was the fun stuff. In the hall Closet was your own mini armory. You pack your usual two pistols and a few blades. You also grabbed a couple auto injectors. Can never be to safe. While you were packing though you missed the alert on your computer. Something big was happening.
“Miss yn. You jet is ready for takeoff.”
“Thank you Jarvis.” You walked to the door and laced up your boots.
“There was also an alert that came up on your computer miss.”
“What?” You stood up and headed to your desk. Leaving your bag by the door.
Sure enough there was an alert. Nick Fury was dead and Steve was wanted by Shield.
“What the fuck!” You nearly topped your chair when you stood. Instantly grabbing for your phone to call Steve. There was no answer. Shit. Shit. Shit. You grabbed you bag and ran to the jet. Shit was hitting the fan. A lot of shit.
“Jarvis let Tony know I’m leaving.”
“Certainly.”
You flicked through your takeoff procedures and grabbed the controls.
“Jarvis try Steve again.” You shot up into the sky heading to DC.
“I’m sorry miss. He did not answer.”
“Fuck. Try Maria.” She was always close to fury. Hopefully she would know what the hell was going on.
“Hill.”
“Maria. What the fuck is going on?”
“Yn.” She paused. It sounded like she was taking to someone.
“I’m on my way to DC. Tell me what the fuck is going on.”
“Yn. I’m sending you Coordinates to land at. Do not enter DC air space.” Fuck. This was bad.
“What’s going on?”
“I’ll tell you when. You get here. Just get here.” She hung up. You pushed the engines to max speed.
You made it to the coordinates Maria gave you in almost record time. 20 minutes from her hanging up to when you touched down outside an old dam. Maria was out waiting for you.
“Tell me what the fuck is going on!” By the time you landed you were fuming. Not at anyone particularly but at the whole situation. “What happened to Fury? Where is Steve?”
“Come on in yn.” She turned to lead you into the damn. All you wanted to do was cuss and scream at her nonchalant attitude towards everything. You followed her down the damp hallways of the dam until it opened up into a small room.
“I could hear you cursing from in here yn.”
“Fury! What the fuck” He held back a laugh. “SHIELD said you were dead. How?”
“They needed to think he was actually dead but we got him out of the hospital and here for treatment.” Maria moved around the bed and started talking to one of the doctors. You took a seat next to fury.
“What is going on?”
“Shield has been compromised.”
“By who?”
“HYDRA.”
“Project insight is them.” You sat back in your seat. That would explain all the odd bits of info you had been picking up while digging through files. Fury nodded at your response. “How long?”
“I’m not sure. At this point we don’t know who to trust.”
“So why I am here? Why did you let me know you’re alive?”
“Because other than Captain Rogers, you would be the second person in line to kill anyone that might be affiliated with HYDRA.” He wasn’t wrong.
“So where is Steve now? What’s are next play?”
“Hill is working on how to get Steve. Then we stop Insight.”
Sitting around was not your style, but Fury told you to wait. Maria was on trying to track down Steve. Doctors where still working on patching up fury. All you could do was sit and wait. You knew that if Steve was running he would have ditched his cell. At this point it really wasn’t safe to call anyone else. Fury didn’t even want you call Nat. You only slipped a call to Tony to let him know you landed. He tried to press for more info but you shut him down quickly. You could hear the news playing in the background about Fury and Steve.
It was well into the night when Maria finally found something. A STRIKE team had been sent to a mall then Camp Lehigh was bombed. There was still no indication where Steve was at.
Then around mid-morning the next day more alerts started going off. Sitwell was kidnapped.
“That has to be Steve right?” You had taken up a post with Maria going through any SHIELD alerts.
“It’s a good chance. Keep digging.”
“God I should have come down here when he called me the other night.”
“There’s nothing you could have done. You would just be on the run with him.” Maria looked up at you over her computer. “And do you think Steve would want you out there or here?” You caught the smirk on her face.
“Yea yea.” You waved her off. Steve did just about anything to keep you safe. He learned quickly that your self-preservation was about as good as his.
“This is it!” She stood up quickly and spun her computer around. A STRIKE team orders to grab them on the freeway. They were helping out “the asset”.  “If I can get into one of those prisoner transports, I can get them out.” Before you could respond she was off to Fury.
“Take the team and get him.”
“Yes, sir.” She turned and started ordering the men around.
“I’m coming with you Maria.”
“No you’re not yn. I need you here.” It was an order from Fury.
“Fine.” You just watched as Maria and her team suited up.
“I don’t what you doing anything stupid out there yn.”
“I know Fury. I know.” He was right. The likelihood you would do something stupid was pretty high. All you could do now is wait.
The plan was easy enough. Steve, Sam and you each had a chip to place into the helicarriers. Linking them and taking them out of the air. Nat and Fury would take down SHIELD. Exposing everything to the world. Steve was on edge even though he didn’t show it.
“I want you to get on and off that helicarrier quick. Don’t mess around.”
“Steve I’m fine. If it’s about the leg, it’s ok.”
“Yn. It won’t take much for you to rebreak it.”
“Yep. And it doesn’t take much to break my other bones either.” You teased and jogged off to your starting point.
“Yn I’m serious.” He said over comms. You just laughed to yourself and continued on.
The guys gave you a head start. You listened to Steve talk over the intercom. People that you passed looking nervously between each other. Once you reached you carrier, it was mostly unguarded for the moment. Steve drawing the attention away from it for the moment. Just a few bad guys to take down. Suddenly the door above the carrier began to open.
“Uh, guys they are getting ready to launch.”
“Get that chip in place and get back to Maria yn.” You rolled your eyes at Steve even though he couldn’t see you.
You pushed harder to get to the control center to get your chip in place. Thankfully it seemed most people hadn’t quite realized you were already on the ship. Outside you could see that Sam and Steve were drawing the most attention.
“I got my chip in place. How are you guys doing?” Getting out was going to be a bit more difficult.
“I’m locked.” Sam shouted.
“Two down. Captain how are you looking?” Maria was running the ground.
“Working on it.”
“Steve where are you? I’m coming to you.” You started working your way to the flight deck.
“Yn get back to Maria. I got this.”
“Oh fuck you Steve.”  You heard Sam laugh.
“I like her.” That earned a groan from Steve.
“Since you like me so much want to give a lift Sam?” You kept working your way to the deck. First plan was to grab a jet and head to Steve. You just had to get up there.
“6 minutes until it reached altitude.”
“Sam! Where is that ride!”
“I’m grounded. Steve’s on the carrier.”
“What happened!”
“Winter Solider.”
“Shit.” You pushed off from where you were hiding. Steve told you that somehow that was Bucky. That whatever happened to him when he was captured during the war must have helped him survive the fall. You knew Steve would be blinded by his friend. Even if he didn’t recognize him.
“Steve you copy? I’m on my way.” No response.
“Falcon. I got Rumlow.” Maria broke in.
“I’m on it.”
“Maria can you get into one of these jets and get it started for me?” You kept clearing a path.
“Space five. Staring engines now.” The jet just ahead of you roared to life and the hatch opened.
“I could kiss you girl!” You climbed in and headed to the last carrier.
By the time you reached the control center Steve and the Solider were already locked. You took aim and started firing at the Solider. It caused just enough distraction for him that Steve was able to lock him in a hold.
“Yn.” He hissed over the comms.
“Just get me that chip Steve!” Steve shoved the Solider off of him and started toward you. Climbing up the structure.
“Steve!” The Solider was back up an aiming at Steve. He tossed the chip at you. You barely got your fingers on it, leaning every part of your body over the railing. A shot rang out.
“Go yn!” Steve kept climbing as you rushed to the computer. More shots were fired. This time they hit you. First in your leg.
“Yn!”
“I got it Steve!”
“One minute!” Maria shouted over comms. This was it you just had to reach- Another shot. It hits you in the shoulder propelling you forward. You slam into the control center. Pressing the keys as fast as you could the door slid open. Just as you reached to put your chip in another shot hit your stomach. You fell before you could get the chip placed.
“Damnit.” Steve had reached you. He grabbed the chip from you and slammed it home. “We’re locked.”
“Get out of there guys.”
Steve reached down to scoop you up when he was shot in the shoulder.
“Maria. Fire.”
“Yn.” Maria questioned you.
“I said fire!” You shouted. Steve didn’t have words to say. Suddenly there was an explosion.
“Why?”
“Steve.” You gave him a sad look. He dug in you suit to find an injector. Quickly stabbing it into your arm.
“That was stupid.”
“So is this.” You pushed him off of you. “Where is the Solider?” Steve looked around. When he stopped you followed his eye line. The Solider was trapped under a large piece of metal from the carrier. “Go.”
Steve looked back to you.
“Go Steve.” You reached into your pocket and grabbed another injector. Slamming that one into your thigh. Steve nodded.
“Here.” He handed you the shield. The carrier started to tip. A quick glance saw that it was colliding with the building.
“Stupid and reckless.” You gave him a grin then stood the best you could. At the railing you gave a look down. There was a break in the glass directly below you and water beyond that.
“Get your friend Steve.” Before he could question you, you heaved yourself over the railing and out the bottom of the ship.
You used the shield to help break the water as you hit it. It still nearly took all the air out of you. Once you bobbed back to the surface you looked back up. The building seemed to have caught the carrier and it just sat there. The extra injector gave you enough strength to slowly swim to the edge of the water.
“Where’s Steve and yn!” Your comms still worked!
“I’m in the water under the ship! I’m trying to get to shore. Steve’s still on the carrier.”
“I’ll get a vehicle and get her Fury.”
“Copy that Hill.”
You just have to get to the edge before that carrier comes down. Pushing your muscles as they ached. The pain meds quickly wearing off even with the extra dose. You glanced back. Shit. The carrier was coming down. You didn’t know if you were clear but you hoped you were. Maybe the wave it caused would give you the extra push to the shore.

Meeting
Looking out the window, Tony tried to stop the blurring of the trees by focusing on just one until it disappeared from view. Soon enough, the constant back and forth of his eyes became tiring, but there wasn’t much else to do. He wished he could nap, take advantage of the quiet atmosphere in Ms. Hill’s car and make up for all of the sleep he didn’t get last night, but of course he couldn’t. Wouldn’t. Not after the last time he fell asleep in the car.
Ms. Hill was quiet in the front seat, but he could see her eyes in the rearview mirror every five minutes. Just a quick glance, sometimes lingering. Making sure he still looked okay. Ms. Hill was always nice to him, always had a smile when she came to see him and talked to him all nice and soft like Jarvis and Ana used to at home. Last night Ms. Hill’s smile was wrong. She smiled with her mouth but her eyes looked so sad. Tony knew it when he saw her. Sad eyes meant he was going away again. Sad eyes meant disappointment. Disappointed that he couldn’t behave again, that he said something disrespectful or touched something he wasn’t supposed to or wasn’t paying attention like he always did even though he tried, I swear I tried this time. Sad eyes meant his foster parents didn’t want him anymore, and he had to pack up his bag and go to meet new strangers and be on his best behavior so that they would keep him this time.
Tony didn’t really want to leave this last house. It wasn’t that bad compared to the other ones. Mr. and Mrs. Lakely didn’t lock the fridge like his second foster home did, and they weren’t tired and stressed and snippy from too many kids in the house. He had to do chores in the house and they watched that he did his homework and he was only allowed one hour of tv a day and the computer was only for schoolwork and he shared a room with two other boys because the apartment was just a touch too small, but Tony didn’t mind all of that. But they had their own kids, their real kids, so Tony should have known not to get his hopes up. Especially after all the incidents in the short two months he’d been there.
Tony looked down at his hands at the thought. He wished he knew why he was like this. Why he was such a problem child, like his second foster mom, the really really mean one, had said to him all the time. None of the other foster parents had said that, but Tony knew they must have thought it too. Why else did they all end up sending him back?
The Lakely’s were Tony’s fourth foster home, and the shortest stay he’d had so far. The first one, with old Mrs. Hendricks, was probably the nicest he’d had. Tony had had his own room there, just like at his real home, and Mrs. Hendricks would cook a huge dinner every night. She only had one other foster kid, Beth, so it was always quiet and calm there. Beth was a lot older than him, but she was nice and played with him sometimes. She shared her colored pencils with him whenever he wanted. But then Mrs. Hendricks fell one day and Beth had to call 911 and they had to go to the hospital in the ambulance with all the lights and loud noises and Beth was crying and Tony was so so scared of hospitals because there were germs everywhere that could make you sick and sometimes people died in them. Ms. Hill and another social worker had come to get Beth and Tony that night to pack their stuff and go to new homes. He was sad to leave Mrs. Hendricks’ house then, but he was happy when Ms. Hill said she hadn’t died. He didn’t want another dead parent.
There were two parents in this home, Ms. Hill had told him this morning at the group home. They were both men, though. Tony didn’t know how that really worked at the home, and he wasn’t really sure he wanted to. Dads, real ones or foster ones, never worked out that well for him.
He couldn’t stop picking at his cuticles in his lap. Everyone said it was a bad habit but he couldn’t stop himself. If he didn’t move, Tony sometimes felt like he would burst out of his skin. It was even worse when he was scared.
They were out of Manhattan now, Tony could tell. They had passed over another bridge 20 minutes ago and it’s been trees and highway ever since. Tony wondered if the new house would have a yard. Since leaving his real home, he’d only lived in apartments. The parks in the neighborhood were fun, but he had liked the yard at home. He remembered being able to run through grass and not having to share a swing.
Tony jumped at a sharp pinch in his thumb. He looked down to see a drop of blood welling up where Tony had ripped a piece of skin out. Crap. He didn’t want to get any blood on Ms. Hill’s nice care, but, after quickly peeking around the backseat, Tony realized he had nothing to use as a tissue. Stuck on what to do, Tony sucked it between his lips and turned more toward the window to keep Ms. Hill from noticing. He winced at the initial sting but managed to pull his mind from the pain by counting the number of light posts they passed.
After a short while - one hundred and seventy three posts, to be exact - they pulled off an exit. Ten minutes and a couple of turns later, they were in a neighborhood so unlike the city streets of New York that Tony found himself drinking in everything with a sense of wonder. Two and three-floor houses lined neat streets that all had trimmed trees in their front yards. With fascination, Tony’s eyes were able to focus on a few houses enough to notice front and back yards.
Distracted by the details that differentiated one house from the next, it felt as though only a minute had passed when Tony felt the car slowing down on the road. They stopped in front of a house that Tony had only ever seen the likes of in movies. A wide, two-floor home stood in front of him, the panels painted light blue with white shutters on the windows.
Tony’s heart was set to pounding when he heard the click of Ms. Hill’s car door. He checked his thumb to make sure the bleeding had stopped while she was pulling his bag out of the car. At least that was done. A little wave of shame washed over him when Ms. Hill opened the door for him with the black garbage bag in hand.
Tony made himself snap into action at her expectant smile and unbuckle the seatbelt. He gripped the strap of the red backpack that Mrs. Hendricks had bought him for his first day of grade school, and pushed off the seat to the sidewalk.
There was a small blue bicycle resting against the porch, low enough to the ground that it was clearly for a child smaller than Tony. Of course he wouldn’t be the only kid here. In a house this big, there could be seven other kids inside. Tony felt a shiver run down his back as he and Ms. Hill approached the doorbell. He tried to smile back at her when she looked down to him.
He must not have done a good job, because she patted him between the shoulders and softly said “It’s going to be ok, buddy. I promise, you’re going to like this one.”
Tony doubted it. After this last stay with the Lakely’s, he knew now not to get too comfortable. He could be gone from here by the next week.
The doorbell rang faintly through the door, a light jingle that reminded him of Christmas music. At the telltale vibration of approaching steps, Tony’s grip tightened on his backpack. He didn’t know if anyone noticed his jump when the door swung open, but he hoped no one would mention it.
The man behind the door was....well...huge. Way taller than Ms. Hill, and bulky like a football player. And when the man greeted Tony with a wide smile, his attention was drawn to the - .
Woah. The man had a metal arm.
“Hi, Anthony. It’s nice to meet you, I’m Bucky.”
And Tony was so distracted by the arm he tuned into the words just a second too late. Instead of saying “hi”, or saying he didn’t like to be called Anthony, what came out of Tony’s mouth was “What’s a Bucky?”
His hand twitched on the backpack as he kept from smacking his own forehead.
The man’s face froze for a split second before he broke out into a laugh. “I’m a Bucky. It’s my nickname.”
“Oh.” Tony didn’t know what to say to that. For a second he stood frozen on the doorstep, before he remembered his manners. “I’m Tony.”
Tony was caught off guard when Bucky leaned down from his waist to be eye-to-eye with him and stuck out his hand - the non-metal one - to him. “Hi Tony. Welcome to our home.”
From this view, he could see that Bucky had brown hair long enough to be pulled back into a small knot like he had only ever seen girls do. His eyes were dark too, like Tony’s.
Tony slowly placed his hand in Bucky’s, afraid of offending when he’s been at his new home for 30 seconds, and was surprised at how gently Bucky’s fingers curled over his and shook his hand for a moment before letting go. He straightened up and motioned to the hallway.
“Come inside. I think Steve’s got everyone in the kitchen.”
Everyone.
Making sure Ms. Hill was still beside him, he gingerly stepped through the door and waited for Bucky to take the lead again. He led them to the back of the house, letting Tony catch a glimpse of a nice living room as they passed. As Bucky promised, they arrived in the kitchen.
Tony barely noticed the view to the backyard from a glass door when he zeroed in on the table sitting opposite the island block. Another man, the same large size as Bucky but with blonde hair and blue eyes, stood next to one end of the table, where three children sat.
A boy with sandy hair and blue eyes, older than Tony, was turned to him with a big grin that clearly said he was excited to see the new kid. A girl about the same age sat next to him looking almost bored, but Tony lingered on her red hair and green eyes before sliding over to the other side of the table. There, a little boy with plump cheeks was clutching an action figure in one hand and swinging his legs under the table. His dark hair and eyes had Tony wondering if this kid may be Bucky’s real kid. Biological.
“Guys, this is Tony. Tony, this is my husband, Steve,” Bucky said, indicating the other man. Like Bucky, this one stepped forward to crouch down to Tony’s level with a pearly smile.
“Hi there, Tony. We’re really glad to meet you.” Tony hoped that wasn’t a lie. Steve and Bucky seemed to talk nicely, for now, at least. It might change when Ms. Hill left, so Tony couldn’t make himself relax just yet.
“I’d like you to meet our children,” Steve said, motioning to the kids next to them. The older boy piped up before Steve could continue with a bright, “I’m Clint!” and an eager wave. Steve huffed a small laugh, and Tony could see his smile turn a little softer.
Tony gave Clint a small smile and waved back. “Yes, that’s our son Clint,” Steve chimed back in, “And he’s twelve years old. And this is Natasha, she’s eleven.” Natasha didn’t smile like Clint, and the way she looked him up and down before waving silently made Tony hope he hadn’t already started off on the wrong foot.
Bucky, who had now come to stand at the other side of the table, brought Tony’s attention to the little boy. Brushing a hand through the little boy’s floppy hair, he said “And this little guy is Peter. Can you say ‘hi to Tony, Petey?”
The hearty shake of the hand still clutching the action figure made Tony actually smile.
“Good job,” Bucky directed at Peter. “And how old are you, buddy?”
Peter turned around to face Bucky and shoved his hand, thumb tucked into his palm, into Bucky’s face as he burst out, “I’m four!”
Bucky beamed down at Peter and Tony was surprised at the look of pride on his face. Maybe Peter was Bucky’s biological kid. He’d never had a foster parent look at him like that before.
“How old are you?” Clint asked, and it took Tony a moment to realize it was directed at him. “I’m seven.”
“Yes!” Clint turned to Steve and excitedly said, “Tony can ride the big bikes with me and Tasha!”
“Let’s have Tony settle in first, before we start racing through the streets, ok, pal?”
Clint nodded in agreement, and Tony didn’t want to say out loud that he didn’t know how to ride a bike. Hopefully Clint and Natasha would still be nice to him even if he couldn’t ride.
“Can we take Tony to our room?” Clint asked.
“Slow down a sec,” Bucky chided. “Tony, we were going to have you share a room with Clint since Peter’s is a little too small. Are you going to be ok with that?”
Tony didn’t really know why he was asking. He’d only ever had his own room at Mrs. Hendricks’ house. “I’ve shared before,” was what Tony said.
Bucky’s eyebrow twitched for a moment, but his smile didn’t change. “Alright, then. Why don’t you come with me and Steve on a little house tour before lunch, huh?” Turning to Clint and Natasha, he said, “How about you take Petey into the living room for some TV?”
Nodding along, Clint beckoned Peter to follow him and Natasha into the other room, where Tony heard the TV turn on.
Steve looked back at Tony. “First things first, this is the kitchen. We eat all our meals at the table, and you can always eat or drink whatever is in the fridge whenever you’re hungry. You never have to wait for permission to eat or drink, ok?”
Steve seemed to wait for Tony to nod before he moved on. At least he didn’t have to worry about getting in trouble for eating food that might not be for him. “There’s always water in the fridge, we’ll show you how to use that, and we always have juice or iced tea. When we go to the store, you can tell us all the drinks and snacks you like.”
“The living room is right through there,” he pointed where the other children disappeared, “And you can get into the backyard through that door.”
Steve was looking at Tony, probably to make sure he was paying attention, so Tony followed Steve’s finger to the glass sliding door behind the table.
After orienting Tony to the first floor, which included the home office, where the family computer sat, and the stairway to the basement, which Tony was told housed the washing machines, Steve led Tony upstairs while Bucky got started on making lunch.
Steve brought him into Clint’s room first, and Tony almost froze with shock at what he saw. Clint’s room wasn’t like any other bedroom he’d seen in a foster home before. A large window was in the center of the opposite wall, a twin bed and matching nightstand arranged on either side of it. In the same mirrored arrangement, a dresser and small desk were tucked against the left and right walls. The door was centered on the left side, clearly Clint’s from the pictures and knick-knacks arranged on the furniture. Across from the other bed, meant to be Tony’s, was a closet that Steve said he and Clint would share.
“I hope you don’t mind the colors,” Steve said. The room was tastefully designed with light grey walls and dark furniture, but the wall where Clint’s dresser and desk sat was painted a darkish purple. “We let Clint redecorate and arrange his room for his birthday last year. You’re the first person who’s shared the room with him since then.”
Tony carefully laid his backpack against the nightstand. Steve had taken the garbage bag from Ms. Hill downstairs, promising it would all get washed and dried before bedtime.
Clint’s bedsheets matched the purple hue of the walls, but Tony’s bed had grey plaid that matched the other walls. Steve had asked that Tony let him know if the sheets bothered him at all so he could pick different ones, which Tony thought was possibly the strangest thing a foster parent had asked him. Why in the world would Tony be bothered by sheets?
After the bedroom, Steve took Tony out into the hallway and pointed out Natasha’s room, next to his and Clint’s, and the bathroom that he would share with the other kids next to it. Across the hall was Steve and Bucky’s room, and Peter’s door faced Natasha’s. A trip to the linen closet next to Peter’s room got Tony a new toothbrush - Steve even let him pick from three colors - his own toothpaste, and a new hairbrush and comb that went into a bathroom drawer where Tony noticed three other brushes in different colors. The purple brush must have been Clint’s. Just like in the kitchen, Steve bent down and promised Tony that the only bathroom rules were that he knock before coming in.
When Steve led him back down to the kitchen, Tony saw Ms. Hill at the table with Bucky. Suddenly it occurred to him that he didn’t know what Steve and Bucky’s last names were. He needed to find a way to ask Clint or Natasha what he was supposed to call them. He’d never called a foster parent by their first name.
Ms. Hill and Bucky were looking over some papers - his file, Tony guessed. He looked down at his shoes. Compared to the nice hardwood floors, his scuffed Adidas sneakers, a hand-me-down from his third foster home, seemed dirty in comparison. He should have taken them off when he first came into the house, but Bucky hadn’t told him to and it hadn’t occurred to Tony to stop and take them off. He hopes this foster home wasn’t a stickler about shoes in the house like other ones were.
He didn’t want to meet anyone’s eyes now. Tony knew what was in his file, and he didn’t need to see any more pity in their eyes. His file wasn’t the greatest - five homes in four years, a history of acting out and misbehavior, and barely passing school this last year. He was just grateful at this point that he hadn’t gotten dumped in a group home. Tyler, the boy in his third home, had come there from a group home. He couldn’t follow the house rules, so he got sent back a month later. Tyler had said Tony was too young for the group home, and Tony had crossed his fingers behind his back and hoped to God it was true.
“Tony?”
His head jerked up as he realized he wasn’t paying attention. Again.
“Huh?”
Bucky sent him a soft smile, which send Tony on edge. Foster parents didn’t smile like that.
“I was just asking if you like turkey. I’m going to make sandwiches for lunch but we have other things if you don’t like it.”
Tony blinked. “Turkey’s ok.”
Bucky’s smile widened. “Ok.”
He got up from his chair and went to start digging through cabinets.
From the table, Ms. Hill waved him over to her. “You feeling ok, pal?” She always asked him that before she left him at a new home, and five homes later Tony still had no idea what he was supposed to say.
Please don’t leave? Why am I here? How long am I staying this time?
But he didn’t want to bother Ms. Hill any more than he already had. So instead, he answered, “Feeling ok, I guess,” like he always did.
She gave him another one of her nice smiles and patted his shoulder. “Ok, buddy. I’m going to head out, ok? You know you can call me anytime, right? Anytime.”
Tony nodded along. Her phone number was written down in the back of his school notebook. He’d wanted to call her a hundred times, but he could never bring himself to do it. That, or he couldn’t find a phone when he needed it.
Maybe this time, if something was wrong, he would be able to call her. Tony was older now, after all. Not a little kid anymore. He could be brave like a big boy.
He stopped himself from grabbing onto Ms. Hill’s jacket as she left the house. He felt his breaths getting short and choppy in that way that meant he might start wheezing soon. New house. New parents. New kids. No guarantee that anyone in this house was nice.
Before he could get distracted by all the bad thoughts, Steve called out to the living room, “Lunch, kids!” and suddenly the other kids were back in the room, taking their previous seats. He realized he was sitting in the empty chair that had been next to Peter earlier.
When Bucky placed a plate down in front of him, Tony jumped. He froze when his eyes met Natasha’s.
Her green eyes looked sharp. Like she was looking at him with x-ray vision. Looking under his skin, into his insides.
Tony had to look away.
Staring down at his sandwich, Tony realized just how tired he was.

“Jean. Storm. What’s going on?” Scott questioned.
“I don’t know. Storm?” Jean asked as she silence the noises.
“If you came here thinking I know where your daughter is you are mistaken. Gambit works echoed through Storm’s head to the point where Jean shakes Storm’s shoulder.
“Where you listening?” Jean asked.
“Clearly she wasn’t because if she was she would had answered.” Logan snapped walking into the room. You would think Logan would be giving Jean heart eye like he always does but not lately not since he found out that she and Scott was getting married.
“You don’t have to be rude Logan...are you ok?” Jean wondered.
But before Storm could answer the Tv start to Broadcast the news instead of the safety alarms.
“It would appear to be some type of Alien creature coming from that portal there.” Reporter said as the cameraman points the camera towards the portal. “We don’t have any information of why there here and where  they come from but first responders are saying to stay inside and if you have a basement please take shelter there I will keep you updated.”
“Aliens in New York we have to stop them.” Jubilee proclaimed.
“We’ve never dealt with something like this before. How do we know we can stop them?” Scott questioned.
“We don’t but we have to try.” Rogue chimed in.
“Kids right I’m not bout to sit here and do nothing.” Logan declared as he about to walk out the mansion but.
“It is already being taken care of.” Charles  announced.
“By who?” Scott asked.
“An Organization called Shield.” Charles explained.
“You think a bunch of spies are going to save New York?” Logan questioned sarcastically.
“No there more then that.” Charles replied. “They can handle this the X-Men are not needed.
“Like hell we are.” Logan mumbled under his breath walking out the room.

Hawkeye looks out to his left window, finding a target. Loki
“See them?” Natasha asked.
“Yeah.” Barton answered.
Loki and Y/n circle each other. All the quickness and skill at their command, they Clash furiously.. Till...They find themselves on opposite sides of the balcony. Hawkeye sees his opening and banks the jet towards Stark Tower and aims the Minigun at Loki.
Loki then aims the scepter at the Quinjet and fires a blast of energy. Thor gets to his feet, tackles Loki down hard. The Quinjet is soon caught on fire. Hawkeye maneuvers one wing of the jet.
“There gonna crash.” Y/n flies down holding her hand out to catch Quinjet and safely place it on the ground. With everyone okay, Hawkeye and Black Widow unfasten their seatbelts and open the ramp. Captain America runs down, followed  by Hawkeye and Black Widow. Each one has their respected weapons in hand.

Steve, Y/n, Natasha, and Clint arrives in the middle of a four-way street.  Suddenly, the city lurches to a stop. A deep, primal rage bellows out. With that roar, a shadow comes over them. From the portal, a Chitauri Leviathan flies out carrying hundreds of soldiers, the Chitauri Leviathan  passes over them.
You have to be fucking kidding me
They look up, out of their element. From both sides, Chitauri soldiers cling off and attach themselves to the sides of the buildings, sliding down. Some Crash into these buildings and  begin firing from their Energy rifles at innocent people.
“Stark, are you seeing this?” Steve questioned.
“I'm seeing, still working on believing. Where's Banner? Has he shown up yet?” Tony asked.
“No. I don’t know what part of Manhattan I sent him to but he’s here somewhere.” Y/n answered.
“Just keep me posted. Jarvis, find me a soft spot.”  Iron Man quietly flies behind and parallel with the Chitauri Leviathan.

Thor holds down Loki's face straight ahead, forcing him to watch the city falling to ash “Look at this! Look around you! You think this madness will end with your rule?”
Loki tries to look away. “It's too late. It's too late to stop it.”
“No. We can. Together.” Loki looks at his brother, showing a sign of hope. Then... Loki stabs Thor with a small knife. Thor keels over.
“Sentiment.” Loki mocked
Thor gets up, kicks Loki and lifts him into the air. Thor then slams him down, hard. Loki, bleeding, rolls over the edge. Thor looks down. Loki  is riding on a flying chariot.  Dozens of Chitauri follow his lead.

Back at the At the X-Mansion Logan is suiting up when Ororo walks in.
“Logan where are you going?” Ororo question but she pretty much has the answer to it.
“Where do you think there’s Aliens destroying Manhattan and the good professor wants us to sit back and do nothing.” Logan answered. “We’re supposed to be superheroes Oro we can’t sit back and do nothing when people need us.”
“Well if your going so am I.” Ororo answered.
“Your hoping your daughter would be there aren’t you?” Logan question with and eyebrow raised.
“I don’t know if she will but there’s know someone who could tell me.” Ororo moves to get her suit.
Jean and Scott walks in the ready room and see Logan dress.
“Where are you going Logan?” Jean asked as she walks over to him.
“I’m going to help.” Logan said dryly.
“I’m going with him.” Ororo announced.
Jean and Scott looks shocked by Ororo outburst.
When did Logan and Ororo get so close
Jean didn’t want to admit it but she was missing the attention that she got from Logan. I know I know it’s greedy but she did. When Logan would look at her it was like he would risk it all just to be with her that kind of fire.....
“The Professor said we should say.” Jean protested.
“When have I ever listened.”  Logan voiced as he gets into the car. “Coming Oro?”
Jean and Scott looks at Ororo. “I’m sorry guys I have to do this.” Ororo declared as she gets in the car. Logan then starts the car up and drives away leaving Scott and Jean in the dust.

Y/n  puts a above head force field around Steve, Clint, and Natasha. “We’re fine here no one can’t hit us.”
They look up and see Loki taking his band down the street and Fires  at the street in a chain of explosions. Smashing cars and hurling people as it goes off in one Final conflagration. Terrified people running from Loki, looking over their shoulders, coming straight at them.
Captain America looks down the bridge. “Those people need assistance down there.”
Chitauri soldiers that have landed near them and begin firing at them.
Black Widow pulls both pistols and fires. Turns to Cap. “We got this. You and Y/n  Go!”
Steve looks over to at Clint. “You think you can hold them off?”
“Captain.”  Pulls a trigger on his bow; a narrow is mechanically chosen. “It would be my genuine pleasure.”
“Stay in this area no one will be able to hit you from above.” Y/n  told Clint and Natasha.
Hawkeye nods at Red Wing  then shoots an arrow  into the creature's head, gaining a few seconds for Captain America as he falls down the bridge, followed by an explosion. Cap and Red Wing races over to the plaza, jumping over dozens of exploding cars. Cap and Red Wing are running like the wind. Hawkeye runs over a bus full of people. From the windows, small children are held by their parents for Hawkeye to pull them out to safety. He runs over to the jammed door and jerkily opens it. People begin to run out. Black Widow empties out her clips. Hawkeye fires arrows into the ranks of the Chitauri, hitting his mark each time he shoots.
“Just like Budapest all over again!” Natasha proclaimed.
“You and I remember Budapest  very differently.” Clint replied.

The cops continuously fire at the flying chariots. It's pretty pointless. A Young Cop runs over to his Police Sergeant.
“We need to get out! They gotta bring  the National Guard!” The Young Cop  disclosed.
“National Guard? Does the army know what's happening here?” Police Sergeant questioned.
“And Do we?”
Captain America jumps in front of them. They look up at this ridiculous looking man as Y/n rushes up to the the young cop. “I need men in these buildings. There  are people inside that can run into the line of fire. You take them through the basement or through the subway. You keep them off the streets. I need a perimeter as far back as 39th.”
“Don’t worry I’ll get the people out the building and off the street. I need your men to lead them to you through the basement or the subway.”  Y/n started.
“Why the hell should I take orders from you?” Police Sergeant asked with sassily.
Suddenly, an explosion comes up from behind Cap sending some debris debris towards Y/n and the two cops she puts up a force field in record timing to protect her and the two police officers. An energy blast is blocked by his Shield. Two Black Widow attack. The cops watch in shock as Red Wing protect them and Captain America fights off the Chitauri soldiers with ease. The Sergeant turns to his officer.
“When the people are all gather on the street I need men to escort them to the basement or the subway  and I need a perimeter as far back as 39th.” Police Sergeant  said urgently in to his shoulder walkie.

A bunch of clips from the opening night of Sweeney Todd in Manila! Shot 3rd row at the balcony. I shot more but they were too zoomed in that they’re more likely to be considered audio so I decided not to include them. I was very near the usher and they were really strict. The phone was in my jacket pocket so I couldn’t see anything and I was scared of getting caught, so a lot is very zoomed and I’m really sorry about that. I absolutely loved the set, it was reimagined into a more modern almost gangster like setting. Shot in 4k on my phone. Please gift out to anyone who asks. SkyFire 2: Chapter 8
Louis in NYC: June 2016
Word count: 2.5k
SkyFire 2 MASTERLIST
The song Louis and Rori write in this chapter is Leave a Light On by Tom Walker. I decided really early on in this fic that this song was going to be one of Aurora’s and I just think it’s beautiful
>Instagram posts
The night after Niall left, Aurora woke with a start, sweat beading across her forehead and her left arm aching. She laid still in the darkness, staring up towards the ceiling as her chest heaved with every laboured breath. After a while she began to calm but after looking at the clock and seeing that it was around 4 in the morning she groaned, knowing that she wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep. She grabbed her phone off the bedside table and opened WhatsApp.
◊Aurora: Are you free?
◊Harry: I am. What are you doing up so early?
Instead of replying, she hit the call button at the top of the screen, waiting as the dial tone rang for a brief moment.
“What’s wrong love?” Harry asked.
“Sorry,” Aurora murmured. “Are you sure I’m not interrupting anything?”
“Not at all. We’re just broke for an early lunch,” Harry said. “Now tell me what’s got awake at 4am?”
Aurora sighed heavily, her heart already settling back into its normal rhythm, soothed by the familiar cadence of Harry’s voice. “Nightmare’s again.”
“Thought you said they were getting better?” he asked, concern thick in his voice and she could picture the way his brows would be lowered over his eyes.
“They were,” she sighed. “I think having Niall around all the time helped.”
“He went home yesterday?”
“Yeah,” she said.
“Saw you two went out on the town,” he chuckled. “Looked like fun.”
“It was. Felt like old times.”
“I’m glad you had fun…” his voice trailed off, struggling to keep up the light-hearted mood in the wake of his concern for her.
“I’ll be alright H. Just missing you.”
“I’ll be home before you know it,” he promised and she smiled softly, happy to hear him referring to the tower as home.
“Enough about me,” she said. “Tell me all about being a big movie star.”
He chuckled but told her all about being on set and how he was getting along with his co-stars. “Baby, I gotta get back to work,” he said after a while. “You gonna be able to sleep now?”
“Probably not,” she sighed. “Might just go downstairs and paint for a while.”
“Ok. I love you.”
“And I love you Harry.”
xXx
Aurora was in the kitchen a few days after her early morning talk with Harry. She was making a cup of tea, her back to the rest of the room where the open plan kitchen looked out across the large living room. She heard the elevator doors slide open over in the far corner of the room, paying it no mind, assuming it was one of the towers residence coming or going as they often did. She added a splash of milk to her mug and returned the carton to the fridge, almost dropping the bottle when a familiar voice yelled out. “Oi Oi!”
She spun around, her face already lighting up with a grin the moment her eyes landed on him. “Louis!” she screamed, running across the room to throw herself into his arms. “What are you doing here?” she asked as he spun her around, his bags forgotten at his feet.
“Missed you love,” he replied. “Got jealous that you spent 3 weeks straight with Irish and I had to come get my own quality time with ya.”
“Harry called, didn’t he?” she asked.
“He was just worried about you getting a bit lonely without him,” Louis explained, finally putting her back on her feet. “Don’t be mad at him.”
“I’m not mad,” Aurora argued. Louis laughed as she followed him into the living room, sitting down next to her on the sofa, folding his leg underneath him to turn and face her completely. “I’m not. I just wish everything would go back to normal. It’s not like I can be angry at him or my parents treating me like I’m broken. They’re not wrong.”
“You’re fine,” Louis scoffed. “There’s nothing wrong with needing to have people around you who care about you. H didn’t ask me to be here with you because he thinks you’ll fall apart on your own, he wanted me here because he feels guilty that he left right after the surgery.”
“I know he feels guilty not being here,” she said. “I think I worried him when I called him the night after Niall left.”
“Why’s that?” Louis asked, his hand resting on her knee.
“I have nightmares when I’m alone at night,” she explained. “Most nights that Niall was here I ended up crashing in his room because I didn’t want to be on my own.”
“Sounds like we’re gonna have plenty of sleepovers then,” Louis joked.
“I really am glad that you’re here, but I’m surprised you’re not out in California with Freddie.”
“I was,” he replied, “but my little sister needed me.”
“Thanks Lou.”
“Anytime, love.”
“He’s beautiful by the way,” Aurora added, happy to change the subject to something happier.
“Wanna see some more photos?” Louis asked, already pulling out his phone.
“Of course,” Rori laughed, leaning in to see Louis and the little baby on his screen. They spent the rest of the afternoon talking about Louis son and what the first few months of fatherhood had been like for him. Steve and Tony were both happy to find the pair in the living room when they arrived home in the early evening, having noticed the change in Rori’s mood since Niall had left the previous week.  They had JARVIS order pizza and the rest of the crew made their way up to the penthouse for dinner. Aurora really was glad to have Louis there and was grateful that Harry had called him. Over the years Louis had taken on the roll of older brother in her life and she had missed him in the months since the band had gone their separate ways.
Eventually it started to get late and slowly everyone excused themselves, heading off to bed one by one. Louis didn’t even pretend that he would be staying in one of the many guest rooms, and instead headed straight for Aurora’s room and dropped his bag at the end of the bed. Rori took her pyjamas into the bathroom to change and by the time she came back out, Louis had changed and was lying on Harry’s side of the bed. She climbed in next to him, a respectful distance between them which caused Louis to laugh.
“Get over here and give us a cuddle,” he said, opening his arms out as he turned on his side to face her. “You know Harold won’t mind.”
She let out her own chuckle, remembering how many times the two of them had fallen asleep on the tour bus or on green room couches together. Harry had of course never had a problem with it, knowing that there was nothing romantic about it and that they were just comfortable around each other. She scooted over towards the centre of the bed, letting Louis wrap his arms around her and she snuggled in against his chest. She fell asleep quickly, sleeping better than she had in weeks.
xXx
As was always the case when the two of them were together, Aurora and Louis spent more time goofing around and having fun than they did actually working. Even so they still managed to pull together a couple of songs they were happy with.
“Wanna take another pass at that house on the hill song we were messing with the other day?” Louis asked.
“Yeah sure thing,” Rori smiled back. “Take it from the second verse?”
Louis nodded and began strumming away on the guitar, Aurora joining in with her lyrics a few beats later.
Tell me what's been happening, what's been on your mind Lately, you've been searching for a darker place to hide That's alright But if you carry on spiralling, they'll be robbed from us I refuse to lose another friend to guns Just come home, don't let go
If you look into the distance, there's a house upon the hill Guidin' like a lighthouse To a place where you'll be safe to feel our grace 'Cause we've all made mistakes If you've lost your way
I will leave the light on
If you look into the distance, there's a house upon the hill Guidin' like a lighthouse It's a place where you'll be safe to feel our grace And if you've lost your way, if you've lost your way I will leave the light on And I know you're down and out now, but I need you to be brave Hidin' from the truth ain't gonna make this all okay I see your pain If you don't feel our grace and you've lost your way
I will leave the light on
“I’m thinking we should add a piano track,” Aurora suggested when she finished singing. She moved over to the upright piano and started putting together the right hand of the melody.
“Maybe go up here in the bridge,” Louis suggested. He nodded when Aurora tried it. “Yeah that’s better, kinda cuts through the melody nicely.”
“I like it,” Aurora agreed.
“Think you want to keep this one?” he asked when they finished.
“Nah, I still don’t really see myself doing the whole solo thing. You want it?”
“No thanks love,” Louis replied. “Don’t think it’s the direction I wanna head in.”
“Any idea what that is?” she asked.
“Not yet,” he sighed. “I know the others are chomping at it to get out there on their own, but I think I wanna ease it into.”
“I get that,” Rori said.
“Think you’re probably the only one that does get it. Everyone else is on my ass about writing and getting a solo album out as quick as possible.”
“Tell ‘em to fuck off, Lou.”
Louis let out a loud peel of laughter in response, rolling backwards where he was sitting on the floor. “Jesus I really did miss hanging out with you,” he finally said when he pulled himself together.
xXx
They were up on the roof one night, the hot summer air still hanging over the city even though the sun had set hours ago and they both lay on their backs staring up at the sky. Aurora’s head was cushioned on Louis chest, and she toed off her shoes, the hem of her dress covering her thighs.
“Hey Rors?” Louis asked, breaking the stillness of the evening. The sound of traffic below them floated up but given how high they were above the streets it was more of a soft background noise than it would have been down below.
“Yeah?” she replied, turning her head to the side, only able to see the underside of his chin as he continued looking up at the hint of stars above them.
“I never really asked you about the shooting because I didn’t want to upset you, but I was wondering if you ever wanted to talk about it?”
“For a while I kept trying to pretend it never happened,” she said, turning back to look at the darkness spread out above them. “I know that probably sounds ridiculous given that my hand was held together by metal plates and my shoulder was in pieces, but I couldn’t think about it at first. Then I started talking to Sam and it helped, so I started talking to Harry. I’m not ready to talk to the press or anything, but I think it helps to talk with the people around me.”
“What was it like?” Louis asked.
“Terrifying.” His hand lifted to comb through her hair while she spoke. “I was confused at first, but then once we all realised what was happening, we got under the tables and I had JARVIS send out an S.O.S.” She paused for a moment, thinking back to that day in the library. “I remember the bullets feeling hot, like a hot iron poker. I think I went into shock pretty quick and my head was spinning. I remember Pops lifting me up. His face is what I see in my nightmares most nights. The fear in his eyes was what made me realise I was dying. By the time I got to the hospital I’d lost consciousness, but they said I lost so much blood that it was close. And then I woke up and I couldn’t really believe I was alive, but my dads were there and so was Harry.”
“I hate that that happened to you,” Louis whispered. “When we found out what happened and they were trying to get Harry on a plane and cancel the show, we saw that photo of you in Steve’s arms and I kept thinking; what are we gonna do if you die?”
“I’m sorry, Lou. I forget that it wasn’t just me that went through hell that day.”
“Don’t ever apologise,” he told her. “I’m just glad you’re still here.”
“Me too.”
They both let the conversation drop, the silence wrapping back around them as they lay out in the summer night. Over the past few months, Aurora had found herself resenting how much Harry, Steve and Tony were hovering over her. She’d hated the way they watched her constantly as if afraid that the moment they turned away she would fall apart. She’d thought they saw her as weak and resented their pity. It was only now, lying in the darkness with Louis that she realised that everything they’d done was just their way of loving her and trying to protect her. So much focus was on her injuries, both physical and mental, that she often forgot how traumatising the shooting had been on all of them. How could she possibly blame them for being overprotective of her when they had so very nearly lost her. It wasn’t that she wasn’t able to look after herself, it was more that they wanted to help her in any way they could. She felt stupid for not realising any of this sooner considering how painfully obvious it now seemed.
“I can hear you thinking,” Louis muttered. “Care to share with the class?”
“Just thinking about how much you all love me,” Rori replied. “You’d really do anything to make sure I’m ok.”
“You best believe it,” he said, his hand resting on her shoulder, squeezing gently. “So, stop complaining and just let us help you.”
“I love you Lou,” she murmured, sitting up to look at him in the soft light. “Growing up I always wanted a brother and I’m so grateful I got the best one.”
“Love you too Rors.” He also sat up, pulling her into a tight hug. “I think we all blame ourselves for not being able to protect you. I know it’s not rational because how could anyone of us have stopped what happened, but seeing you hurting kills us. Please don’t feel like you need to put on a brave face around any of us, because we would walk through fire for you.”
Aurora didn’t say anything, still clinging to Louis and he let the silence once again fall around them, glad that he’d finally said everything that had been gnawing away at him for months and happy that she finally understood why her family was hovering over her.

Changing Names
Warnings: Language?
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Word Count: 1593 (Not including the texts).
Summary: The one time it was a good idea to take an 8AM lecture class.
A/N: This was written for @blushycarol’s 600 follower writing challenge. I chose the Soulmate AU. In this AU everyone once they are 5 years old gets a mark on their arm with their soulmate’s name. And once you find the right person with that name the mark changes colors. When I thought about the statue I based it off of this one on WWU’s campus. I’m a week late, I’m so sorry. Tumblr was being an ass when I tried to post and it would only go onto my main account. Better late than never I guess.
Tumblr media
“Natasha Romanoff” that’s the name or some version of it has been on your wrist since you were five years old. Your soulmate’s name. First Natalia Romanova, then Natalie Rushman, now Natasha Romanoff. You unconsciously rubbed the small black letters as you waited for the class to fill up, you held the seat next to you for your best friend Wanda Maximoff. She had found her soulmate years ago when the two fo you two were still in high school. Vision, as he liked to call himself. She’s one of the only other person that you knew who had their soul mark change. From Jarvis to Vision. From who he was to who he is.
Your mind wandered from Vis, to your own Soulmate. What would she be like? What would she look like? Just all in all, who was she? You didn’t ponder your fate for long before Wanda waltzed in, way too happy for an eight AM class. Before you could greet her she put a Starbucks cup in front of you.
“Oh my god, I love you so much.” You groan out. You take a sip and put your head on the desk. “Remind me why I agreed to take an early class with you?” You ask her as she got her laptop out.
“Because you’d do anything for me.” She said looking up at you and giving you a cheeky smile. You rolled your eyes and shook your head. “Come on, you said it yourself, you love me.” She shoved you playfully.
“Mmhmm.” You turned your attention to the front of the class and watched as the professor started.
“Now I don't really care if you come to class. Just please come on these specific days. They’re the only ones that I will ask attendance and they determine my pay. So,” The professor shrugged. “Now today being one of those days, I will now take attendance.” He started reading off the names, surprisingly, he did not read them in alphabetical order. “Maximoff, Wanda.” She raised her hand. “Rogers, Steven.” A tall blonde man who looked impossibly fit and too big to fit in the desks raised his hand and cleared his throat. “Y/L/N, Y/N.”
“Here,” you said. No one paid attention apart from a beautiful girl with flame-like red hair. Her head whipped to you as soon as you breathed out the first letter. You furrowed your brow, slightly confused. You looked down and started to doodle in the margins of your notebook. A little turtle here, a bird there. The professor resumed taking attendance, as you continued to draw.
“Wilson, Samuel.” Check. “Hill, Maria.” Check. “Romanoff, Natasha.” You whip your head up and began to scan the room. Eyes falling back on the redhead, with her hand up. No wonder her own eyes were drawn to you when your name was spoken. An overwhelming feeling of anxiety crept up on you. What if you didn’t like each other? There were cases, albeit few and far between, of soulmates not being the best for each other, not exactly working out in a great way. But that’s very unlikely. It’s much more likely that you and your soulmate will work out. Unless you were not meant to be soulMATES, rather “soulfriends”. That’s another pretty likely scenario. But, you don’t even know if this is even the right Natasha, could be someone else. You won’t know until you talk to her and see her name change colors.
Why did not this class have to be so long? Two hours. And it’s not like you could concentrate on whatever the professor was saying, no, you were too busy staring at the woman across the lecture hall from you. You tapped on the desk, willing the clock to move faster. You needed to know if this was the right woman, and you needed to know now.
The time went by like a slug, but finally the class was dismissed and everyone hurried to pack up. You caught the redhead’s eye, and she motioned over to the top of the stairs near the door. You nodded and turned to Wanda.
“I’ll-uh. I’ll catch up with you later.” You said distractedly. She chuckled and pushed your shoulder lightly.
“Go! Text me when you find out!” She tells you as you rush to follow your maybe soulmate.. You smile back at her.
“I will.” You run up the stairs, trying to take them multiple at a time, and almost tripping. You rush out the door and smack into the back of her. You knock her backwards, pushing her off your feet and you fall on top of her, barely catching yourself, trying not to crush Natasha.
“Jesus.” She breathes out as you get to your feet. You help her to hers and she brushed the dirt off of her pants.
“Are you okay?! I’m so sorry.” You looked her over, your hand on her shoulder.
“I’m fine,” she waves you off. “So you’re Y/N Y/L/N?” You nod.
“And you’re Natasha Romanoff?” She nods and you both smile. “I-I guess we should check.” You motion to her arm and you roll up your sleeve. Steeling your nerves, you look down at her arm and gasp. The dark black of your names faded into bright blues blending into plums and lavenders. You look up at her and pull her into a bone crushing hug. She hugs you back. Not as tightly but her arms still feel nice around you.
“I’m sorry. I have to get to class, but here.” She grabbed a pen from her pocket and wrote her number down below her name. “Call me.” She said and walked off. You watched after her, the anxiety temporarily relieved after finally meeting her for real.

———
Sunday approached quickly, and you were nervous. You had taken all day to get ready and now you were waiting at the tall statue on campus. You were early. 45 minutes early. You fidgeted, rubbing your arms, paced around and tapped your fingers against your thigh. You sat down on the foot of the statue, waiting for the time to come around. It was moving slowly, it felt like 30 minutes took 2 hours. That wasn’t surprising though. Your leg shook and you looked at your watch frequently. 5:30 came by and you were back to pacing. You watched around for her to find you. 5 then 10 minutes pass and there was no sign of her. You sighed and shot her a text.
“Hey, you still coming?” Nothing, for 10 minutes. You looked up from your phone as the clock struck 5:57. You heard panting and see a flash of red hair.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Natasha yelled as she sprinted over to you. Her hand landed on your shoulder. “I’m so sorry. My phone is busted and…” she spoke.
“It’s okay. I’m just glad you came.” You smiled and ran a hand through your hair.
“Of course I did. I wouldn’t just leave you.” With that she took your hand in hers and started to lead you away from the campus, towards city center.
“Wait, I’m the one who asked you out. I’m the leader of the date. I should be leading you around.” She rolled her eyes and smirked at you.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m taking charge.” You huffed quietly. She raised an eyebrow at you, almost challengingly. “You can be ‘the leader’ next time. I promise.” She sounded sarcastic, but you’ll take it.
“Yes ma’am.”
———
It didn’t take long to get to the restaurant that she was taking you too. She pulled you in and you grabbed a table. She even pushed your chair in for you.
“So I guess we should get to know each other.” Natasha said over her menu. She set it down and folded her hands. You nodded, setting your own down. Your hands were shaking and you were picking your nails. “Do you have any questions, or shall I go first?”
“What the fuck is up with your name?” You blurt out. You wince. “Sorry, that was probably insensitive.” You look down at your lap and a melodic little laugh hit your ears. She sighed.
“What do you mean?”
“Natalia Romanova, Natalie Rushman, Natasha Romanoff, why did your name change so much? And why did you stick with an N R theme for your name?”
“Oh, um. I guess they just didn’t fit me anymore.” She shrugged. For the next two hours, the two of you went back and forth asking questions, sharing stories, and just getting to know each other. When dinner was finished the two of you walked around town, still talking. In the end, she walked you to your dorm room.
“This was nice.” You say and look down at your shoes. “When can I see you again?” You look up and see her smiling at you. “What?”
“You’re just cute.” She shrugs. “Next week? I don't know when yet.” You nod.
“So-so I guess I’ll see you soon.” Her eyes flicker to your lips just before she pulled you in and presses a soft kiss to your lips. You practically melt against her, your hands on her waist pulling her closer than she could pull you with her arms around your neck. She pulls away and you could feel the flush on your face. A big grin spreads across your face.
“I’ll see you in class, Y/N,” Natasha smirks, turns around and walks off.
“See you then.”

A Horrific Game of Hide and Seek by Buckets_Of_Stars

His Dad is home and he can even hang out with his friends more.Too bad things don’t stay that way.One mistake as Spider-Man changes everything and the teenager realizes the importance of always listening to his gut. Because that might be the very thing keeping him safe.

A Stark Contrast To The Expected by Buckets_Of_Stars

Can we skip to the good part? by yourgaydad
A day after his sixteenth birthday Peter finds out that Tony Stark is his biological father. But what the hell is he supposed to do now?
***
If Peter said that he never thought about Mr. Stark as his dad he would be lying. He didn’t do it consciously of course. It was just those things at the back of his head that sometimes got closer to the surface. But whenever a thought like ‘Wonder what dad would say’ or ‘Is dad picking me up today?’ occurred, he felt extremely embarrassed about it.
Now, instead of being ecstatic about Mr. Stark being his father, the boy felt agitated at just the thought of talking to the man. What was he going to think? That Peter wanted more attention? Money? His name?

Congratulations, it's a Boy by capiocapi
"Sir, I have the results.”
“Okay, Jarvis. Hit me.”
“It’s a match. 99.9% chance that he is your biological son, which is the percentage needed to be recognized by law as a biological parent.”
Tony’s stomach did a funny swooping dance. “Great. Congratulations to me then, eh? It’s a boy.”

Heed my senses, I can't do it alone by Webtrinsic
Peter thought things were going his way, he really did. His relationship with Tony was going great, his grades were steady, May was supporting his heroic debuts and his friendship with Ned had never been stronger.
But when the man lurking in the shadows, whose all-consuming addiction to the senses affiliated with the red and blue vigilante kidnaps him, things quickly go south.
In the meantime, Tony's fearful he'll never find the boy he's come to see as his son.
Will Peter ever be alright? Tony's not sure, but he'll do everything and anything to ensure that boy's well-being.
He just hopes the world isn't too much. It's Tony against the world, and for Peter, he'd win every time.

Spaghetti With A Side Of Panic by Buckets_Of_Stars
Getting all A’s in the Stark household used to be a requirement, something exspected of a young Tony, genius kid prodigy. It was always brushed off, made to further elevate Howard’s immaculate reputation.
Now, however, it was a cause for celebration, one where Peter, Tony and Happy would go out to dinner and stuff their faces with as much spaghetti as they could.
Too bad no one told Peter that garlic kills spiders.

The Black And The Blue (All That It Takes Out Of You) by Buckets_Of_Stars
David wasn't a person Peter would ever want to be around, but with him being May's new boyfriend and all, it makes it harder and harder to avoid him. But it was fine, May was happy and of course, Peter still has Tony.
But that was before the hitting started. Before David spit neglectful words in his face and the spiderling begins to question his very worth.
Tony, on the other hand, is not having it.

The Chilling Realities Of Hunting And Being Hunted by Buckets_Of_Stars
All Peter and Tony had to do was cross the mountains. That’s it. Just climb a few hills and get to the Convention. They didn’t count on the snow, or the wind, or the fact that neither of them have cell service.
And they definitely didn’t count on the fact that they would be hunted—stalked—as they sit, freezing and shaking, on the side of the road.

The Education Complication by Buckets_Of_Stars

1. No long distance running. 2. Always have your inhaler with you.
But when a new Gym Teacher with a hatred toward Iron Man gets hired, the 13 year old is going to find that following these two simple steps has never been more difficult.
