Willie buckled the helmet strap under Alex’s chin, and he groaned. “I’m too old for this.”

“You’re 22, hotdog.” Willie shook his head.

“Exactly! Way too old to be learning how to skateboard now!” He looked around at all the ten-year-olds zooming past him and doing kickflips. He was totally going to fall.

“You said I could choose what we did on our next date.” Willie strapped his own helmet on. “Are you changing your mind?” He raised an inquisitive eyebrow.

Alex swallowed and shook his head. The last thing he wanted to do was disappoint Willie.

“Then trust me.”

Julie smells smoke about 3 seconds before the fire alarm goes off. She sprints to the kitchen to find Luke frantically fanning at the offending skillet with a baking sheet. 

“How did this even happen?”

“I don’t know! I started making an omelet and then I figured out why the bridge for Free wasn’t working,” Luke confesses.

Julie chuckles. Of course Luke had gotten distracted by a song. 

“You’re no longer allowed in the kitchen without adult supervision.” She pulls the carton of eggs out of the fridge and heats up a clean pan. “Now tell me about the bridge.”

(Okay I'm pretty sure this is in response to the first almost drabble I wrote you last week? So we're going with that, aiming for real drabble this time...)

Bobby turns back to catch her lips the moment his page is marked. Julie relaxes into the warmth of his kiss and brings her arms up around his shoulders.

They come together quickly, opposite poles of magnatized souls. The soft heat building through Julie's chest chases away the lingering fog of the day behind.

Time has driven the sun from the sky for the time being. Julie is left free to bask in the light of the moon as she pulls Bobby closer, closer, until there's nothing left between them.

"Welcome home," Bobby breathes.

"Glad to be home," Julie answers.

Perks of being a ghost

Alex had always been an anxious person, dying hadn’t really changed that. But a lot of the things that stressed him before, weren’t an issue anymore.

Being invisible to everyone but the people that mattered, playing music for hours and never even getting tired were two of his favorite perks.

But his favorite thing about being a ghost was meeting the most beautiful man he’d ever seen and the way he grinned at him like he was someone worth grinning at.

Drumming had been the only thing that made him feel alive when he was.

Somehow, Willie was even better.

The fake cheer only lasts a moment as he takes in the low-lit space.

It’s just as empty as he expected.

He walks slowly around the space, running his hand lightly over the cymbals of Alex’s drum kit.

If only he’d gotten the chance to see them play. Not some perverse Caleb-controlled show. But them. He can only imagine what this trio of energetic, larger than life boys could bring to a stage.

He coughs out a wry laugh. Larger than life. Dead. Destroyed. What bitter irony.

“Maybe we could do something with this?”

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Ehhhhhh unreliably. I want to but get anxiety. I've been working on it and have done a lot better on more recent fic than older ones.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Me? Angst? Psh. girl please. i only tease the angst at friends via ps i love you au (😘) but like. maybe ch 2 of Help! I've Fallen and I Can't Giddy-Up or i've had some semi angst adjacent drabbles on tumblr. I guess. I'm not about that life.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? most are fairly open-ended but headed towards HEA. But i feel like maybe Live It Like It's Meow or Never because Reggie gets to be a cat and take a nap in the sun!

8. Do you get hate on fics? Nope.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do not. I'm just starting to get comfortable writing slightly heated kissing 😅 (comfortable she says! HA! she had a mini panic attack writing the kiss in Justice, Over Easy)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Remember that half Nancy Drew CW fandom i mentioned earlier? I did a JATPxND ficlet that went over surprisingly well.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? nope. i currently have a hard enough time writing with myself lol

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? i'm assuming this means to write since it's a writers ask game. Juke, but if i bring alex into it much, willie is bound to follow (him anywhere)

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I had a really intense juke dream about a month ago... 2 months ago. that i started writing a scene from because honestly it was a pretty cool premise. but the further i get away from that night, the more other wips are being prioritized. maybe i will just share the morning text ramble of it i did in the group chat because i really do want to share something. I just don't think it will be a written out ficlet.

16. What are your writing strengths? IDEAS. I can see a thing happen and be like "BUT WHAT IF JUKE" for days on end. in apparently very strange places too. I feel like i have rather unusual premise for what i end up writing sometimes.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? despite knowing what a good narrative can look like, i immediately cannot recall it once writing. It's not like it's bad but i feel like it lacks a bit and reflects my short time since starting to write. Also, if i write it the simple dumb way to get it out of my brain. Chances are, it will take me 4 months to go from reading it and saying "well i wrote the thought out. it's there. it's done" unable to write it any different or better, to my editor brain kicking in and figuring out how to really say it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Um. If it's necessary within the realms of the plot and characters it's fine? I'm not multilingual so anything i did would be google translated or asking a friend that speaks it, so i don't really mess around with it. as a reader, if a fic on ao3 says it's in english, i normally don't want half a chapter to be in another language even if it is a native tongue to multiple characters since I don't know what they are saying without using a translator or scrolling to the bottom a/n so /shrug. take that as you will.

19. First fandom you wrote for? jatp. no other fandom i've been a part of has made me go quite this feral.

20. Favorite fic you've written? Picking a favorite is impossible. But I'd say i'm probably currently most proud of Help! I've Fallen and I Can't Giddy Up as it was the first (and only) chaptered fic that i've finished and i challenged myself with each chapter. But honestly, i add new elements to each fic i post, whether its learning new html, learning how skins work on ao3, making a gif/picture to go with it, or just challenging myself within the writing like getting more confident with intimacy.

Newsies JatP AU Drabble (Flying Solo)

I randomly wrote this instead of literally anything else that I needed to or wanted to but it's fun so we deal. This would be a part of the "Flying Solo" chapter of my Julie and the Phantoms AU (click the first tag for all related posts) and would be right after Jack tells Spot about the ghosts and decides to perform a song for him to prove it. There is no telling when or if the rest of this chapter will ever be written so I decided to just post it now. There are indeed references and callbacks to previous chapters that either Do Not Exist or Are Not Posted Yet and I just need everyone to politely ignore those.

Jack turned away from the bickering ghosts with an eye-roll and moved to take his seat at the keyboard when a too-familiar sight froze him in place. Race’s beloved guitar was shining like new, the year of dust wiped away like nothing, as if his brother had just finished cleaning it himself and would bounce through the door at any moment to show Jack the newest chord progression he’d dreamt up in history class. Jack’s heart raced faster and faster as his breath caught in his throat and a million different thoughts flew through his mind in a single moment. 

Someone cleaned Race’s guitar.

Someone touched Race’s guitar.

Race hadn’t done it.

Race was dead.

Ma and Charlie never came out here.

Jack hadn’t done it.

Race was dead. 

Someone touched Race’s guitar.

“Jack, you ready?” Davey’s voice was a mile away and deafening in his eardrums. The ghost followed his frozen eye line to the beautiful instrument that sat ready for a concert never to come. “Oh.”

Davey cleaned Race’s guitar.

It looked nice, Race would like it.

Race was dead.

“I’m sorry, I should have asked,” a quick, nervous apology came before Jack could finish spiraling. “We got so excited that we could move things but we didn’t want to keep touching stuff in your room so Albert suggested cleaning our mess up and we got carried away and started doing the whole room and the guitar just looked so well-loved I wanted to see what it looked like clean but I- I should have asked. I’m sorry.”

Jack said nothing, voice still stuck in his throat. He didn’t walk to his brother’s guitar so much as he did float towards it. His fingers ghosted over the freshly-changed strings and he tentatively plucked out a few perfectly-tuned notes. Jack shot Davey a questioning glance and the suddenly-awkward ghost offered a sheepish shrug, “Sorry.”

A deep breath.

“It’s okay,” Jack managed to choke out, hoping he didn’t sound as close to a breakdown as he felt. “You uh… you didn’t know. Just… I uh… yeah just ask next time.”

“I will,” There was a tone in Davey’s voice that Jack had never heard before. An odd thing to notice considering they had known each other for about 48 hours if he was being generous, but all the (false, Jack was almost certain) confidence was gone and replaced by soft apprehension. Different than the desperate pleading from before, more of a nervous prayer. No, a promise. A promise that went far beyond the surface vow being shared.

Race’s guitar stared at him expectantly and Jack couldn’t help but pick it up, the familiar instrument a weighted blanket on his soul. The first few chords of their old favorite song rang out clear as ever and one of the thorny vines wrapped around Jack’s chest finally began to loosen its death-grip.

“You play guitar too?” Albert joked cautiously. “Got any other hidden talents you wanna share with the class?”

“Nah, I mean. I know how to play but I don’t know how to play.”

Race knew how to play. Jack could strum the right notes and find a complimenting chord but Race knew his guitar better than he knew how to breathe. He could make the strings sing like any room was Carnegie Hall, he could give the instrument its very own soul with the simplest of melodies. It was a wonder he hadn’t figured out how to become a ghost himself just to wipe away the blasphemous layer of dust Jack had allowed to accumulate.

Something like a smile found its way to his lips as Jack imagined his terror of a little brother cracking the secrets of parting the veil between worlds just to dust off his guitar and whack Jack upside the head for being an idiot.

“It looks really good,” Jack found his voice easily this time as he set the guitar back on its stand. “Thanks.”

Davey nodded, still looking uncharacteristically nervous, “No problem.”

Jack’s fingers remained loosely curled around the neck of the guitar, the gentlest sparks of reassurance reaching him through time. Davey’s grip tightened around his own instrument, so subtly he might’ve imagined it. The gaze lingered longer than was probably necessary but Jack couldn’t help but be drawn into the puzzle that was David Jacobs. The smooth, easy confidence that crumbled to insecurity in less than a second. The deliberately carefree attitude until music came into the picture and suddenly he became a wild tornado of passion and near-mania. Jack wondered why he had noticed so much in so little time.

A few agitated thumps of the bass drum pulled the room’s attention to Sarah restlessly twirling a drumstick from her stool, “If I remember correctly, Jack, you’re the one who burst in here saying we have thirty minutes to turn this poem of yours into a song so mind-blowingly epic your bestie doesn’t immediately call the psych ward on you for claiming to see ghosts.”

“Please don’t call him my bestie, he will beat you up,” Jack groaned.

“He can certainly try but one of us learned how to throw things today and it was not him.”

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

i wrote a couple of hp ones like a decade ago when i first really got into fanfiction and had consumed so many fics and was running out of good ones (it was a relatively rare pair so it was a struggle) — found myself correcting so many fics in my head as i read them that i eventually figured id…try writing one myself lmao? but that didn’t last very long and fanfic wasn’t a part of my life for ages after that until jatp 😀 came crashing into my life 😀 and rewired my entire brain idek wth happened. so i went from no fanfic to writing over 100 oneshots/drabbles i swear idk what happened (juke. juke happened). i was possessed
