The Drink Snob (part 4)
mafia au!Remus Lupin x fem!reader - 3k
p1 // p2 // p3 // p4
You stood on the sidewalk staring dumbly at the sign that hung above the door of the restaurant - La Luna – with a list of references under your arm.
You’d thought long and hard about showing up today, and you weren’t sure which part of you was the part that won. Was it the part of you who saw things through? The part of you who had a lovely conversation with a motherly sounding woman on the phone and had promised her you’d be here? Was it the part of you who sort of wanted to see The Man™ again? Or was it the part of you who didn’t like being told what to do?
You supposed it didn’t much matter now which part of you won, seeing as it found you here.
Now you just had to make it inside the restaurant...which should be easy...seeing as you had two functioning legs...so why the hell aren’t they moving?
Maybe this was a bad idea, maybe you shouldn’t have come. Who voluntarily works for a criminal? Or at least for a criminal’s mother. He’s proven to you that he’s nothing but trouble.
What if it was the good kind of trouble? The kind that led to fun banter and teasing remarks. The kind that made life more exciting and adventurous. The kind that made him really fun in bed.
Stop it.
He wasn’t the good kind of trouble. He was a criminal. Just because he stopped one guy from drugging you doesn’t mean he’s any better than him. Just because he spent hours with you at a bar listening to you lament about your life. Just because he took the opportunity to warn you about his mother’s restaurant. Just because he seemed to give a damn about you...
No, that was wishful thinking.
You shouldn’t be here.
Your option to leave was taken from you, however, when a man exciting the restaurant paused to hold the door open for you.
Fuck it.
You thanked the man and squared your shoulders as you entered the restaurant.
It was fairly quiet inside, which you supposed made sense seeing as it didn’t open until 4pm. There were some serving staff behind the bar readying glassware and silverware for the evening, and a few men moving a large piece of furniture covered with a moving blanket to the corner of the restaurant.
“No fucking way. You came!” A voice called. You turned to see the same curly haired man from the restaurant the night that The Man™ saved you from Tan. He was smiling widely at you as if the two of you were old friends that hadn’t seen each other in years.
“Uhm...me?” you asked dumbly. Kill me now.
The man just laughed as he approached you and gave you a bone crushing hug. “Yeah you! You’re The Girl.”
“The girl?” You muttered as you stepped away from the overly affectionate man.
“James, step away from the girl; she doesn’t even know you.” A shorter man with black hair and silver eyes said as he smiled politely at you. “Sorry about him. He’s mostly harmless, just an idiot.”
The man...James...beamed at you as if his friend hadn’t just insulted him.
“I’m James, this is my boyfriend Regulus.” James introduced finally.
“It’s nice to meet you.” You said as you gave him your name in turn.
“Oh, we know.” Another man said as he entered the dining area. He looked startlingly similar to Regulus, though his hair was quite a bit longer and he was littered with tattoos and silver jewelry. He was also accompanied by The Man™.
“Don’t be fucking weird.” The Man™ muttered to his companion.
“Sorry Moons, no can do.” He said salaciously as he waltzed his way over to you extending his hand. “The names Sirius, doll. So glad I finally get to meet you.” He said with a wink.
You choked on a laugh.
“Fucking hell. You’re unbelievable.” You said instead of hello.
“Thank you!” He beamed, puffing his chest not unlike a peacock.
“That wasn’t a compliment...”
James barked a laugh. “Oh Moony, can we keep her?” He said as he wiped a fake tear from under his eye.
“You’re name’s Moony?” You asked incredulously.
The Man’s murderous glare softened as he looked from James to you. “One of them.”
“The sods name is Remus, dollface. Don’t mind him, he’s emotionally constipated.” Sirius interjected.
“Sirius!” Remus chastised from across the room.
“What is goi-oh! You must be Y/N!” A lovely woman exclaimed as she made her way into the dining hall. “I was wondering what had my boys so rowdy.”
You flushed under the insinuation and extended your hand quickly.
“You must be Hope. It’s nice to meet you; I’m terribly sorry if you’ve been waiting on me.”
The woman waved you off and threw a sarcastic glance over her shoulder. “Oh, I’m not fussed. It’s hard to get almost anything done with this lot ‘round. Come, leave the boys to their folly.” She said as she ushered you down the hall.
“Those are your boys?” You asked as the two of you made your way to what looked to be Hope’s office.
“Yes! Well, technically just Remus. But they’re a package deal, those boys.” She said with the fondness only a mother could manage. It made your heart hurt.
“I suppose that’s an important quality...in his line of work.” You offered. You chose to attend the interview regardless, but it was important for you to understand exactly what was expected of you here.
Hope looked at you with a knowing glint in her eye as she sat at her desk, seeming to size you up. “Yes, I suppose so.”
She pulled out some papers and you placed your references in front of you.
“So, what kind of questions do you have for me?” She asked casually.
You felt your eyebrows furrow as you calculated her question; you’d never been asked that at the beginning of an interview before.
“Erm, I... well I guess I’d like to know a little more about what the job entails.”
Hope smiled widely at you – you could see now where Remus got his dimples from.
“Well, we were looking for someone who had a license to serve liquor, perhaps to help with serving and bussing tables. But really what I’m most excited about is your music.”
“My music?” You asked quietly.
“Oh yes.” Hope offered enthusiastically. “I’ve always wanted live music here, but we’ve never had anyone to do that! I must admit, I looked you up after I received your CV – you’re very talented.”
“Oh, god.” You murmured as you felt you face heat in embarrassment. “I’ve really only played with orchestra’s – I’m not sure that’s an example of any talent.”
“Hm, and modest too. Tell me, do you make it a habit of downplaying your worth?”
You felt like you’d been slapped.
“Because you shouldn’t. You ought to be proud; I sure am.” She carried on like she hadn’t just rocked your world. You cleared your throat and tried to fight against the tears clamoring their way to the surface.
“As for...this line of work.” Hope carried on, emphasizing your phrasing regarding Remus’ job. “This is indeed a restaurant. We deal with mostly restaurant matters. Some of our patrons may be...more colourful than average, and we may see the boys come and go from time-to-time, but there’s nothing you’d need to be concerned about.”
You nodded, a little stunned by the speed of this conversation, but feeling like you got the gist.
Restaurant. Shady business behind the scenes. Nothing for you to worry about.
Good enough.
“Look. You’ve worked at bars in some of the largest cities in North America – that tells me you work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. You’ve worked with orchestras across the continent as well, which tells me you work well in a team environment. You’re working towards your doctorate which tells me you’re dedicated and hard working. You’re an ideal candidate, Y/N.”
Remus was right – how does one say no to Hope Lupin?
“Do you work well in a team?” She asked plainly.
“Yes.”
“Do you work well under pressure?”
“Sure.”
“How’s your right hook?”
You laughed. “Not bad? I guess...I’ve not had to use it much if I’m being honest.”
Hope shrugged her shoulders. “We can work on that.”
You laughed again before taking a deep breath. “Okay. Alright, well...whatever you need then.”
Hope smiled. “You’ll play for us?”
You grimaced but shifted it to a smile. “There’s no saying no to you, is there?”
Hope beamed. “And you’re a quick learned. Excellent! Come with me.” She called as she stood and marched out of her office.
You followed her obediently back out to the dining hall where James, Remus, Sirius, and Regulus were still loitering – each having taken a seat at a different table. And that large piece of furniture they’d been moving in when you arrived? It was a piano.
It was a Concert A 192 Bechstein grand piano.
It was a brand-new Concert A 192 Bechstein grand piano.
You thought you were going to faint. These pianos were not cheap.
“Think this will work for you? I’m sure we could swap it for something else if needed.” Hope commented as she moved towards the piano.
“You got this...for me?” You murmured. Hope smiled at you but bit it back when she saw the emotion on your face.
“Well, we got it for the restaurant. If you need something else though, we can likely exchange it.”
She was interrupted by a scoff from Sirius. “I am not breaking my back dragging that thing back out of here again, mummykins.”
“You’ll damn well do whatever the hell I tell you too, bubs.” She shot back.
Sirius conceded immediately. “Absolutely. Whatever you want mum.”
“So, are you gonna play us something?” James interjected.
“Now?” You asked apprehensively.
“Well, someone’s gotta test it out.” He shrugged. “They tuned it at the store but said it might shift slightly during the move.”
You hummed in acknowledgement but made no move to sit at the piano. James sighed dramatically and stood from his seat.
“Fine. I’ll do it myself.”
Regulus groaned and brought his hands up to his ears as his boyfriend sat at the piano with a flourish, cracking his knuckles, and began pressing keys at random.
Sirius bobbed his head in encouragement as if what James was currently producing could be considered music. Regulus banged his head against the table with his ears still covered, and Remus shook his head with a grimace.
“Okay, okay! Oh, you poor thing what has he done to you?” You cooed at the piano as you swatted James’ hands away.
“Uhm, I was playing it. Duh.” He muttered as he stood from the bench.
“That was a crime, is what it was. This piano is a work of art – it costs as much as a bungalow in America.” You said as you sat at the bench, staring at the keys in awe.
You’ve played some pretty spectacular instruments throughout your life; the New York Philharmonic certainly provided for their pianist, no holds barred. But those were instruments you had to give back once you finished playing with them. Granted, this belonged to the restaurant, but...it was here for you to play.
“What are you going to play us?” Remus asked quietly.
You turned your head to him, surprised out of your musings, to find him looking at you softly.
“Any requests?” You asked the room.
“James’ knowledge of music that one can play on a piano expands no further than heart and soul, dollface. Don’t ask us.” Sirius smirked as he dodged a swat that James sent his way with an indignant squawk.
“You’re the expert.” Hope encouraged you from the side of the room.
You took a deep breath and turned back to the piano. You felt horribly exposed; no orchestra to hide behind, all eyes on you. Make it count.
You opted for a piece you’ve played an unholy amount of times.
It was your mother’s favourite.
It wasn’t anything particularly difficult or challenging; it was not a technical piece in the slightest. But something about it spoke to you.
It felt like sitting in a sunroom on a rainy day and watching beads of raindrops race down the panes of glass. It felt like the sun peeking out from behind the clouds after days of overcast skies. It felt like a hug from your mom.
Turns out, it sounded even more beautiful on a Bechstein.
The last few notes echoed through the predominantly quiet restaurant as you stared down at the keys.
“What’s that called?” Remus asked quietly.
You looked over at him to find that same soft look on his face.
“It’s called Sorrisi.”
“What language is that?” James asked.
“Italian, I believe.”
“What does it mean?” Sirius interjected.
You smirked before responding. “I believe it translates to I smiled.”
Tumblr media
Remus watched as you seemed to shake yourself out of some sort of reverie. The piece was simple, but it was deep. Remus swore he could see years of memories and feelings oozing out of your shoulders as your hands danced across the keys.
And he wasn’t the only one. He could tell his mum was crying – most people wouldn’t have likely noticed, thinking she was just farsighted - but he knew that she only ever removed her glasses from her face if she was tearing up.
And then you had to go and act all bashful like you hadn’t just moved the room to tears with a few simple notes. Like you had no idea how wonderful you were. How beautiful you were.
Remus was fucked.
Here's the song you played for (Remus) the boys and Hope 🥰

Wolfstar's!Child - Mama Raised a Little Bitch
Parents!Sirius Black & Remus Lupin x Teenager!Reader (ft. Jegulily)
Reader's gender and Hogwarts house is unspecified
This is my first work of the series - if you have any suggestions or requests, let me know!
~~~
Fucked was not a strong enough word to describe how totally and utterly screwed you were now.
When you had first gotten your Hogwarts letter, your uncle Regulus had fallen to his knees (metaphorically) to beg you not to be like James, or your papa Sirius. Remus had joined in too, with both of them citing that ‘Sirius and James were bad enough’ as their justification.
With a promise you had intended to adhere to, you departed to Hogwarts.
In your defence, you believed you would never even come close to breaking it - you had been going strong for four years now, dedicating yourself to academia instead of continuing the Marauders’ legacy, much to the horror of your godfather and papa.
They had made a big deal about ‘disowning you’, opting to name Fred and George Weasley as their heirs, who were more than happy to accept. You believed it to be a joke. For the most part.
However, now there was a blot on your record - a spill of crimson Chardonnet on a white bedsheet if you will.
A blot that came in the form of Hera O’Donnell.
With her snide remarks and condescending attitude, she strutted around Hogwarts like she were the headmaster herself - as a lioness scoured a savanna for a deer to sink its fangs in to, she paroused her peers, searching for the easiest one to prey upon.
You were her chosen doe.
In her skewed vision, you wore shoes too big for you to fill - the weight of the Lupin-Black left you crushed by expectations and drowning in inadequacy, waves of failure washing over your head and coating the inside of your lungs with a thick layer of incompetence.
But your head remained firmly above water.
Despite her taunts and jibes being fruitless at first, Hera had hunted you down and separated you from your pack, and now, her teeth finally began to pierce your skin.
 Logically, you should have informed someone. You were not alone - your dad and papa were forever on your side, along with your godfather James, godmother Lily, Uncle Regulus and all of your aunts and uncles, composed of your parents’ Hogwarts friends.
But Hera awoke a different part of you. Something more spiteful. Something more primal.
Reporting it would not be as satisfying. As gratifying. But revenge would be.
If anyone asked you about what had happened to Hera O’Donnell, you would simply claim something along the lines of how ‘her appearance had improved with the addition of a skunk tail.’ It amused your peers, undeniably, but the staff not so much.
Even as your head of house sat you down and informed you of the consequences of transfiguring someone like that and the numerous procedures that Hera was undergoing at St. Mongo’s, having been transferred there for more specialist care, you could not find it in yourself to care.
However, you absolutely did find it in yourself to care when a crimson envelope fell into your bowl of cereal the next morning.
You had expected your parents to be informed of the incident, naturally. But a howler? That you had not. Staring at the envelope, Hera’s words swarmed your mind. What if your parents now saw you just as Hera had?
With a quiet sigh escaping your lips, and sympathetic glances from your friends, you opened the envelope, hoping to get it over sooner rather than later. The voice of Sirius Black erupted from the envelope, filling the entire Great Hall.
‘MON AMOUR I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! TRANSFIGURING SOMEO- Oi, Rem, get off! I’m jus-’
‘I TOLD YOU OUR KID WOULD BE A FUCKIN’ GOD AT TRANSFIGURATION!’ Came a proud voice of Remus Lupin, cutting your papa off. ‘LOOKS LIKE YOUR PAPA AND GODFATHER NEED TO REINSTATE YOU AS HEIR AFTER ALL, SWEETHEART!’
As Remus declared that, two very loud and audible sighs of disappointment left the lips of Fred and George. The howler continued, and the sound of a door being slammed open was heard before the voice of James Potter joined in the chorus.
‘WERE NONE OF YOU GOING TO TELL ME THAT THEY TRANSFIGURED SOMEONE?!’ James cried out incredulously and overdramatically, however, he quickly forgot his dramatics in favour of the Marauders’ legacy.
‘NOW ALL YOU NEED TO DO, PRIY, IS TO BECOME ANIMAG-’ the sound of skin hitting skin rung out as Lily slapped a hand over James’ mouth to stop him from accidentally revealing that they were illegal animagi, despite the fact that they legally could register, but they all couldn’t be bothered. James and your papa said it was funnier this way.
‘Darling, as impressive as it is, please don’t transfigure anyone else,’ Lily chastised you gently. She had to at least give off the illusion that they were disciplining you, but you could hear the pride underlining her words and the smirk on her lips.
‘Now, I think it’s best we end this now, hm?’ came the still sophisticated voice of your uncle Reg. ‘Unless we want the entire Hogwarts populous to know James’ social security number.’ There was a chuckle from both the howler and the Hogwarts students at that remark.
‘I want you to know that I am proud of you. The family needed something a little more…Slytherin.’ Regulus remarked before the Howler burst into flames and tore itself up.
Silence filled the Great Hall as everyone took a moment to stare at you and process what had just happened. You looked up and your eyes caught Harry’s.
‘Good job,’ he mouthed at you, giving you a bright smile and a thumbs up from the Gryffindor table, beside a very peeved Fred and George.
Maybe you weren’t so alone or fucked after all.
The movie was just that bad
Barbie dolls: jegugily x reader (James, regulus, Lily, you)
Word: 2.4k ish
Summary: okay so basically you're feeling all left out so you go to bed early and Lily is like 🤨 and then communication happens 🤢
warnings: you crochet, insecure thoughts and feelings we've all been there it's cool, immature ways of handling a situation for a few seconds, bad poop jokex2 I thought it was silly :(, lily is very loving, feeling like a third fourth wheel, feet mentioned not in any particular manner James is just annoying Reg, reg calls James 'girl' in a dude way yk like "dude shut up" "girl move" yk so if you think of James as trans it could possibly be a little misgendering but like it's not got any evil undertones it's reg being lovingly annoyed with James, James calls you pretty, reg is a mind-reader a lil, Lily has big thighs it's cannon to me that she's plus sized so argue with the wall, Google translate French, that's all <3
Request: how did you know
You felt sick to your stomach. You love all three of your partners, how could you not? But you felt like you were being shunned. You were the first in the living room. You had a long sofa and next to that was an armchair sat sideways. Regulus was off in the kitchen with Lily, making dinner. James was in the bathroom taking a shower. All was well. You cozied up in the armchair, pulling out your crochet project. You heard James' music slipping past the bathroom door. Regulus and Lily were laughing in the kitchen. You smiled at the sound of their voices.
When James finished his shower, he walked through the living room. His towel was tied around his waist slut and he was waving his glasses in the air to get rid of the fog. James popped a kiss on your temple before heading to the bedroom. Dinner was finished, you four ate like normal. It was good until you noticed the others were doing all the talking. They didn't even glance over at you. You ignored it, chalking it up to them being really interested in their conversation. Then you all went back to the living room. Lily turned on a movie. You moved back into your chair. You picked up your crochet again, only now extremely aware of the silence from your partners. They were all piled on the couch, snuggling against each other. All while you sat in the arm chair.
It shouldn't be this serious. They just weren't giving you attention for a handful of hours, but felt like a stab in the heart. There they were all cuddled up against each other, and they hadn't spoken to you since lunch if even that. Regulus had his head in Lily's lap, her fingers tugging through his hair. James was snuggled up against her side. James was hugging her arm to his chest. He had his hand over Regulus' shoulder intertwining his fingers with Regulus'. And you were sitting cross legged in an armchair. You felt like you were miles away from them.
Although you had been dating a while, you joined their relationship last. They were already so comfortable with each other, they had inside jokes, they had bits between each other, they were already so far into their comfortability with another. You were behind, even now. Regulus and James were actively wearing matching pajama pants. You stared at them. you wanted to be curled up with them, but you didn't want to be greedy. Begging for affection from your partners felt strange to you. They'd have to change their postition, they'd probaly miss a few mintutes of the movie, and you'd have to face the total embarrassment of having human wants.
You couldn't handle seeing them together though. It hurt too much to see their domestic love while you were craving it yourself. You weren't going to make a scene though. You set your project and hook on the small table next to you. You stood and quietly left the room. You headed into the hallway that attached the bathroom and your bedroom to the living room.
James, Regulus, and Lily thought nothing of it, they all use the restroom it's quite normal. You didn't go into the restroom, though. You went into the bedroom. The light was already off. You tucked yourself under the covers of your shared bed. You just wanted to wallow in self pity on your own for a little. Then in the morning you'd be mature and bring it up with them, properly communicating. Just not tonight, you needed to sit in your yucky human feelings for a few hours.
The boys were highly focused on the film, they knew you had left the room a while ago. They assumed you were just fighting for your life in the bathroom, which you enjoyed to do alone so they weren't worried. Lily was though. She noticed that you were kind of quiet during dinner. Then very quiet during movie time. Then you got up and left. The movie was boring to her and probably you, but not that boring. She decided she would check on you in the bathroom. Maybe you fell in.
Lily stood up from the couch, not without James whining and Regulus grunting disapprovingly, and walked towards the bathroom. When she reached the door she noticed the lights weren't on and the door was open. Lily knew you walked into this hallway and she was pretty sure you weren't a ghost so she moved further down the hall. She gently pushed open the door bedroom door. Lily found your head of hair resting on your pillow, blankets tugged up to your ear. You must've gotten a headache. She stepped over to your side of the bed. Lily gently pushed your hair away from your temple. She kissed you on your forehead.
"Headache?" Lily whispered. You shook your head against the pillow. She paused and tried to figure out what could be making you feel like an early bedtime was better than sitting through a movie with them.
"You okay?" You once again shook your head. Lily frpwned. She tucked the blankets under your side, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"What's going on? Can I help?" You shrugged. Lily gently rubbed your arm. She asked you to look at her. You both sat in silence a moment before you turned in the covers. You laid on your back and slumped your head to the side, finally meeting her eyes. Lily pleaded with you to talk to her with her face. You sighed.
"I just feel behind and like just" You trailed off trying to think of the right way to describe your thoughts. If you had your self pity time you would've figured it out, but alas your loving girlfriend was loving girlfriend-ing. "Unneeded, I suppose." Lily gave you a sad look, tilting her head to the side.
"Can you expand?" You sighed. You hated voicing things. You much preferred writing it all out, dropping it in front of them, and dashing away into the other room. Regulus was similar although he often left his feelings hung up on the fridge with one of James' strange magnets. You sat up, the blankets collecting in your lap.
"It's like you guys are already so in tune and used to each other being in your lives, I feel like a third wheel. Although this would technically be a fourth wheel but that's just semantics. I know I should be over this by now but it's hard. It feels like I could disappear and you guys' day to day wouln't change at all. I feel secondary and greedy." You hit your hands on the comforter over your lap. Lily grabbed your hands, bringing your attention back to her. Her eyebrows were pulled together. She seemed closer to tears than you did. You noticed a lack of background noise, the movie must've hit a long and quiet dialogue. Lily squeezed your hands.
"I'm so sorry you felt like that. It was never our intention to make you hurt like this. You're so important to us. Our day to day would be ripped to sheds without you. You're allowed to feel like this, you aren't greedy and you don't have to be over it. It doesn't mean you deserve it though. We love you, I love you. I thought you weren't feeling cuddles tonight, that's the only reason I didn't' call you over. I'm so sorry, baby." Lily sealed her apology with a kiss to your cheek. You nodded. You looked down at your lap, you still felt like you were making a big deal out of something so stupid. You did feel a little better though. Lily stood up from the bed. You kept your hold on her hand.
"I'm going to go get the boys." You shook your head. They actually enjoyed the movie, unlike you.
"No don't. They're having fun with their movie, you can go back to them. I just want to lay here. Just don't tell them." You held onto her hand with both of yours. She gave you a disapproving look.
"Just because they're having a fun time doesn't mean you don't deserve to." You grimaced. You muttered pleases, as she tried to pull her hand from you. The door opened before she could leave. James popped his head in first.
"Hey guys you know there's a movie in the other room" James said. His joke made him smile. His eyes crinkling. Regulus pushed him into the room, following in. James' smile slowly fell as he saw the sad looks on both yours' and Lily's faces.
"What happened in here?" Regulus muttered. He picked up the damper mood as well. James flung himself into the bed. You bounced. You felt like a cartoon, being in such a sour mood while jumping up and down from James' weight. He pressed his face to your upper arm. Regulus squinted at you and Lily sharing a look. He moved towards the bed sitting on the edge, closer to the foot of the bed. James rubbed his fuzzy socks up and down Regulus' arm. Regulus grimaced deeply and smacked him away. James giggled against your arm. Regulus rolled his eyes before looking back to you.
"We're feeling a lot of big feelings today." Lily said, sitting back down on the bed. You glared at her. James picked his head up, looking up at you. Regulus scooted closer to you, crossing his legs on the bed.
"Do not infantilize me." You grumbled, sitting back against the pillows. Lily shook her head.
"I'm not-" Regulus cut Lily off with a disagreeing whine.
"Just a little." He mumbled. James ignored them both, staring at you with wide eyes.
"What's going on, darling?" You shrugged. Just don't answer their questions. What can they do? You sat in silence for a moment. You felt the weight of their eyes on you. You truly wished you could fall asleep faster, they would never wake you up for this communication nonsense. Regulus pulled himself up onto his hands and knees. He crawled between you and James shooing him out of the way.
"Move."
"I'm very comfortable where I am thank you."
"Girl, I said move."
"You're so demanding." James muttered as he scooted to the side. Regulus sat next to you, pulling your hands into his.
"I think I know what's going on." Regulus whispered to you. Lily scoffed and rolled her eyes. James shook his head and stared at Regulus.
"Oh yeah, Mr magical I-know-everything man what do you think is going on?" James asked. Regulus snapped his head to face James next to him.
"Shut up." Regulus seethed, hissing through his teeth. He turned back to you and his expression softened. "I joined these dickheads after they were dating and I felt all rejected and behind. Is that what this is about?" Regulus whispered. You nodded your head, holding onto his hands tighter. James made a sad sound behind Regulus.
"That's okay, you feel like we're already comfortable and you'd be intruding? Jealous but in a self-deprecating way?" Regulus gently cupped your cheek with one hand. You nodded. You turned your head, pressing a kiss to his palm. James screeched and pushed his head over Regulus' shoulder.
"You'd think we would've figured this out by now. I'm sorry, pretty." James frowned and pushed his face further into Regulus' shoulder. His face was squished making his glasses slip down a little. Lily rubbed your shoulder.
"Seriously we're really sorry." Lily whispered. At the mention of the word serious James looked up with a grin. Lily held up a hand in his direction. "Do not." James deflated and hid in Regulus' shoulder.
"When did this flare up today? Was it when we were in the kitchen?" Regulus asked, dragging your attention back to him. You grimaced and shook your head. He ran his thumb over your cheekbone, encouraging you to continue.
"Dinner, but really with the movie." Your voice was barely above a breath. You were exhausted from crying in the dark and exhausted from communicating. Regulus nodded and kissed your forehead. James gasped loudly and flung himself over Regulus' legs. He laid on his stomach, kicking his legs up in the air, and supporting his head with his fist.
"Do you want cuddles?" James asked. Lily stared at James for a moment.
"I feel like you're not taking this seriously, and it's upsetting me." Lily said. James' shoulders sunk. He looked away from you to Lily.
"I'm trying to be positive, but you're over here being a Pessimistic Pandora." James poked Lily's plush thighs that rolled up her sleepy shorts when she sat down. Lily glared at him lovingly.
"Don't bring Pandora into this." Regulus argued. James moved his attention to Regulus.
"You're upsetting your partner, look at them." Lily cupped your face as she spoke. You made an exaggerated sad face. She whined and pressed her cheek against yours. "so sad." Lily muttered. James quickly tackled you wrapping you in his warm arms.
"James you're crushing me." You whispered to him. He shook his head against your neck. James turned his head, pecking you all over your face. You let out a laugh, gripping his shoulders for support.
"Crushing you with my love." James said. He scooted further down your body, resting his head on your chest. James held onto you gently now. Regulus laid down next to the both of you. He settled one hand on your shoulder, dropping his head next to yours on your pillow. Regulus gently kissed your cheek. He lingered for a moment before pulling back. Regulus settled against the pillow again.
"I love you, bien-aimé." You melted against him. You turned your head towards him. You pressed your forehead against Regulus'. You felt Lily scooting down the bed too. She pulled your arm off the mattress, and tugging it over her shoulders. She whispered for James to move down. He obliged. James pressed his face into your stomach. Regulus dropped his other hand to James hair, twirling James' curls around his finger. Lily rested her head on your chest. You rubbed her shoulder with your hand. That's how you four fell asleep, giving you all the proper cuddles. In the morning James made pancakes for everyone. Your stack had 'I <3 u' written in chocolate chips. Lily made the fridge magnets into a heart with your initial inside. Next to the grocery list, next to the heart, was a long winded love letter in Regulus' swirly handwriting.
The Drink Snob (part 3)
mafia au!Remus Lupin x fem!reader - 3.1k
p1 // p2 // p3 // p4
CW: attempted drink tampering, attempted human trafficking, a lot of swearing because it's Remus and reader (obviously)
Synopsis: You take Elle's advice, Remus returns the favour.
You waited at the end of the counter for your mocha to be called through the café. You were feeling pretty good about yourself; you had an interview lined up at a nice restaurant at the end of this week, you’d guest lectured for Minerva and got great feedback from both her and the students, and you’d found time to facetime Elle twice more.
The café was fairly busy with a fair number of students trying to get their caffeine fix between classes. The barista apologized to you for the wait, but you waved him off; “I’m not in any rush right now, take your time.” You had said to him.
“That was quite polite of you.” A voice to your right commented.
You turned and raised your eyebrow at the dark-haired man. His hair was an array of curls pulled back into a low bun, and he kept his onyx gaze fixed on you.
“And that surprises you?”
He smirked at you. “From a yank? I’d have to say a little.”
“Right,” You scoffed, “I’m not American.”
He looked at you strangely at that. “You sound like an American.”
“Maybe I’m just practicing for a part.” You shot back.
He hummed in response. “A budding actress, hm?”
Before you could respond, your name was called at the counter.
“Peppermint mocha for Y/N!”
You picked up your cup and turned back to the man. “As nice as this was, I have to take my leave.”
“Come to dinner with me.” He interjected quickly. You stared at him incredulously.
“I’m sorry?”
“Come on, I want to hear more about this budding acting career of yours.” He said as he winked.
Your immediate thought was hell no. But then you thought of The Man ™ from the pub last week, and how surprising and nice it was to finally connect with someone. Wasn’t this exactly what Elle was saying you should be doing? It went against every part of your better judgement, but this opportunity had been placed in front of you twice, were you really in any position to ignore it?
“What’s your name?” You asked. You were met with a victorious smile.
“Tan.”
You considered him for a moment.
“Fine, one dinner.”
He clapped his hands together. “Wonderful, how about tonight? There’s a Spanish fusion restaurant that just opened downtown that I’ve been dying to try. I could pick you up. Say 7?”
You looked the man up and down; you may be stepping out of your comfort zone agreeing to a date with a stranger you met at a coffee shop, but you weren’t suicidal.
“I’ll meet you there.” You offered. Tan seemed to deflate a little, but the emotion passed quickly over his face.
He gave you the address and then actually kissed you on the hand before you turned and exited the café.
Were all Brit’s this bold? Was this just an English thing? You walked back to the faculty building hoping this was a meet cute opportunity you could tell Elle about.
Tumblr media
“It’s kinda smart, really.” James commented, taking another drink from his water.
“What is?” Remus asked, not looking up from the salad he was pushing around on the plate in front of him.
“Scouting near the universities.”
Remus looked up at his mate then, his black hair as wild as ever as he pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. His knee was bouncing under the table, and Remus knew he was just trying to make conversation while they waited for Lestrange to make his appearance, but James could be so thick sometimes.
“Yes, James. It’s almost as if the traffickers have a method that they follow to find young women they can pick up.” Remus muttered quietly, finally shifting his gaze up to the door.
“Sorry.” James muttered as he ran his hand through his hair again. “I just hate waiting.”
Remus chuckled. “I can tell.”
James made it through at least a minute and a half of silence before Remus finally took pity on him. “Harry’s so close to walking now, eh?”
James’ face lit up as he began a long tangent of his son’s different methods of movement which ranged from scooting, crawling, shifting, and rolling. “And Moony, yesterday he stood at the coffee table and walked around it all by himself! He was holding the coffee table, but still!”
Remus smiled at his friend’s happiness just as he noticed their target entering the building.
“He’s here.” Remus muttered into his collar which hid his speak piece.
“Greasy bastard, how do they manage to look creepier and creepier every time I see them?” Sirius muttered darkly into Remus and James’ earpiece from his car parked out front.
Sirius hated not being able to join on some stakeouts on account of his family. For example, Rabastan Lestrange is technically related to Sirius through marriage as he is the brother-in-law of Sirius’ first cousin Bellatrix. Sirius and Bellatrix, both Black’s by birthright, and the Lestrange’s have historically held ties to the mob boss Tom Riddle who had his followers call him Lord Voldemort. Pretentious fucks at best, but at worst they were prejuidiced, racist, bigots who were involved in human trafficking, which meant it was very important that they get caught and stopped, not the other way around. Which meant Sirius had to play back-up.
Remus was fine with that. James could be a little annoying on account of his ADHD, but he’d take that over Sirius’ inner rage any day.
Remus got it, he really did; Sirius had been surrounded by this his whole life – born and raised to carry on the Black line of arseholes, and he’s seen things many people haven’t. His family was awful and what these women and children went through at their hands was horrible, but being hot-headed in the field didn’t save them.
Remus figured Sirius would probably make a good police officer if they weren’t so corrupt, though he would struggle playing by the rules.
Maybe in another life.
“He’s got a seat in the far left. It’s secluded and near an emergency exit. Reg, are you able to get eyes back there without being caught?” James asked into his own speak piece.
“On it.” Was Reg’s response.
Remus watched the door as James watched Rabastan. People came and went but James never mentioned a change in our target, so Remus disregarded them.
Suddenly, Remus’ breath caught in his throat. No. Not her.
“We should try the croquettes.” James said - their code.
No.
“No.”
James looked up at Remus. “What?”
“It’s...” Remus started, but he didn’t know how to finish. James kept his eyes on Rabastan as you walked past Remus’ line of sight.
“Wait, is that-” James started but they were interrupted by Regulus.
“I’ve got eyes on the emergency exit.”
“Copy.” James muttered and looked back to Remus. “What is it?”
“What’s going on?” Sirius interjected in their earpieces.
“Is that the girl?” James whispered to him, causing Remus to scrunch his eyes shut.
“Wait, what?” Reg called.
James sighed. “Remus’ girl from The Drunken Sailor, it’s her.”
“Wait.” Sirius yelled causing both men to wince. “The girl Rabastan is meeting, it’s Remus’ girl?”
“She’s not my girl.”
Sirius called out the wrong name. “Right?”  Sirius carried on over top of Remus.
“Y/N.” Remus corrected.
“Oh my God,” James said wide eyed at him. “You’ve got it bad.”
“I do not.” Remus started before changing gears, “fuck off, Prongs. Now is not the time. We’ve got to get her out of here.”
“Easy, Remus.” Regulus encouraged him quietly.
“Tell us how you want to go about this.” James added.
Both Black brothers shouted a what over the earpieces.
“The plan stays the same, Prongs. Same as it always is – get her out.” Sirius barked.
“No, Padfoot. This has taken on a new element. If Remus isn’t careful, he could be accused of nefarious actions himself. She’s scheduled for an interview at the restaurant in a few days.” James chided. “It’s your call.” He said to Remus.
She wasn’t supposed to get caught up in this.
She was supposed to go back to school and stay away from dingy bars – and dingy men. She was so clever; how could she have gotten swept up with Rabastan?
No.
Don’t be an arse, Remus.
These men were smart. They knew how to come off completely charming, and targeted women, well, women exactly like her.
She was a student, she was foreign, and she was probably alone when he approached her. She was their perfect target.
Remus just hoped she had kept her wits about her; she had noticed so quickly that his drink had been tampered with, hopefully she’d be just as alert tonight. Remus knew from the staff at the café that she had declined his invitation to pick her up, hopefully she didn’t give him her number, either.
“Do you want me to swap, Remus?” Regulus queried over our earpiece.
Did Remus want him to swap?
What did Remus want?
Remus kind of wanted to be the one to be sitting over there with you.
He turned to look at your table to see you place your jacket on the hook of the booth beside you. As your head was turned, Rabastan’s hand hovered over your glass of water which began to fizz.
“Moons?” James asked quietly again.
But before Remus could respond, you looked back up and your gaze found him. Your eyes and nose scrunched a little as you considered him as if you couldn’t believe what you were seeing. You finally shook your head slightly and offered Remus a small smile before turning back to Rabastan.
Well, you knew Remus was here now.
So much for keeping her out of this.
“Now.” Remus said as he stood from his place at the table.
Tumblr media
The world had to be fucking with you at this point, right? You weren’t actually seeing The Man™? He must just be a figment of your imagination?
Apparently, he was not just a figment of your imagination because he was suddenly standing at the end of your table as if he was about to take your order.
“We really must stop meeting each other like this.” He said with a smirk.
You chuckled nervously as you stared at his beautiful face. “Uhm, yeah. Haha. What are the odds?”
“Uhm, do you mind?” Tan said as he considered The Man ™ and you with furrowed brows.
“I do, actually.” He said severely, before a second man with a mop of curly black hair sidled up behind him looking far more pleased than his counterpart.
“Rabastan, my man, it’s been too long.” He said entirely too loudly. You felt your cheeks heat up as you offered the people around you a nervous smile.
Tan seemed to pale at the sight of the newcomer. Suddenly, his glass of water was turned over in front of him as he scrambled to stand. Before Tan could get anywhere, the curly headed man embraced him in an aggressive looking hug that involved an arm around his neck.
“You bastard, I can’t believe we let it go this long without catching up. Why don’t we have a little family reunion, hm? I know some cousins of yours who are just dying to see how you are.” He announced to the entire restaurant as he man-handled Tan to the emergency exit behind your booth.
You watched with your mouth hanging open as the door closed behind them and the restaurant returned to its appropriate volume.
You turned your head towards The Man ™ as he slid into the booth Tan had just been dragged out of for all intents and purposes.
“What?” was all you could manage to mutter.
“Don’t drink your water” was his response.
You looked down to see the table – now pooled with Tan’s water – and sat there in front of you was your water with a filmy layer on top.
“What the fuck just happened?” you muttered more to yourself than anything.
“I returned the favour.” The Man™ replied with a shrug as he mopped up the water on the table that was starting to spill onto the bench of the booth you were seated on.
“What? Were you following me around waiting for some guy to drug me?” You asked incredulously.
“Relax, sweetheart. It’s not that deep.”
You scoffed in outrage. “Do not tell me to relax you fucker, I was nearly drugged, and lord knows what else.”
“I know exactly what else.” The man snarked back. “He would have brought you out to a van that his buddies would have pulled up upon his command, they would have dumped your purse and all of your belongings in the dumpster behind some business a few blocks away, flown you to Portugal and sold you to the highest bidder, and that’s ignoring everything that would have happened in between. I can assure you, darling, that there was only one fucker here and he was just dragged away by my mate there. So please for all that is holy, relax.” He pressed the end of his sentence as he dumped your glass over as well just as a server came by.
“Oh, let me clean this up for you!” The server exclaimed at the mess just as The Man apologized in faux embarrassment. “I’ll get you two new glasses. Have you had a chance to look at the menu?”
Completely stunned, you decided to field the question to the infuriating man across from you who, fucking damnit, looked just as handsome as the first time you’d seen him.
“Just the waters for now, thank you.” He said with a smile which flashed his dimples, the bastard.
“Are you okay?” He asked softly which was in stark contrast from his demeanor before the server came.
“I’m fine.” You muttered probably more aggressively than you should have. “Fuck, I’m going to kill her.” You growled as you leaned your elbows onto the table and shoved your face into your hands.
“Who’s that now?”
You groaned, hands still covering your face. “My friend, the bitch. This is all her fault.”
“How so?”
“This was her idea! Going out with him, I mean.” You answered miserably as you leaned back against the booth and crossed your arms.
“Your friend knew that guy?” He asked somewhat alarmed.
You snorted a laugh. “No. She just thought I should get out more. Was so worried about me being all sad and lonely in this new city. This’ll teach her.” You muttered as you picked imaginary lint from your skirt.
The man was mirroring you; leaning against the back of his booth with his arms crossed as he seemed to consider you.
“Is that why you started handing out your CV?”
You felt your eyebrows furrow. “My what?”
The man dramatically rolled his eyes. “Oh, my apologies. I meant your resume.”
You nodded your head in understanding before slamming your hand down on the still damp table. “How do you know I’ve been handing out resumes? Are you actually stalking me?”
“No, even your luck doesn’t seem to be that bad. Though, being nearly drugged twice is not a good track record.”
“If I’m remembering correctly, you were the one nearly drugged last time.”
The man smiled at you and something about it felt far softer than you felt the moment called for. “You applied at my mum’s restaurant – the one on 72nd. She was going on about finally having live music in the joint; I saw your CV.”
“I didn’t apply as a musician.” You shouted somewhat panickily. You cleared your throat before correcting yourself. “I mean, I just...I was just looking for a job as a server.”
He squinted his eyes at you before responding. “Well, good luck trying to say no to my mum.”
“What are the chances of me getting drugged if I work at your mum’s restaurant?”
This surprised a bark of laugh from him. “Actually, your chances would be quite a bit lower.”
“I don’t know...” you said suspiciously. “Every time I’ve been with you, drinks have been drugged.”
He hummed as he squinted his eyes. “Hazard of the trade.”
“And what trade is that?”
“Crime.” He said simply. You chuckled, but as you looked back up at the man, you noticed he wasn’t laughing.
“Oh, you’re serious?” You commented.
The corner of his mouth seemed to quirk at your word choice, but he offered you one quick nod.
“But...you’re the kind of criminal to have your drinks drugged and to stop other people from getting drugged?”
He moved his head side-to-side as if to say sort of.
“And you’re telling me this...because?”
“Because” he said as he seemed to square himself, “you ought to know that before you accept the position.”
The Man stood and left some bills on the table. “Are you safe to get home on your own?”
Still reeling from this whole ordeal, you nodded dumbly at him. He offered you a soft smile.
“Take it easy, Y/N.” He said as he left through the emergency exit.
It was only at his use of your name that you realized you still haven't caught his.
Tumblr media
Remus was kicking himself. He should have just asked if you were okay and went about business as usual. He shouldn’t have sat with you, he shouldn’t have confessed about his mother’s restaurant, and he definitely shouldn’t have told you about the nature of his career. But he couldn’t let you walk into that interview without knowing what you were potentially getting yourself into.
And what would have happened if you had taken the job and then seen him there? Then you really would have suspected him of stalking.
Well, Remus has technically stalked before, but not in like a stalkery way, you know? It was like...
It was surveillance!
Fuck, he was grasping at straws.
It just seemed like the world was hell bent on shoving you in Remus’ path. And when Remus first met you – he was insistent on keeping you away from him, from this.
But you just had to drop your resume off at his family’s restaurant.
And you just had to get picked up by a human trafficking sociopath.
So, if you were going to insist on walking this dangerous line Remus calls life, you might as well know where the line is.
He didn’t know what he was more worried about: that you’d take his warning or that you wouldn’t.
Continue to part four here.
I know it's a common trope for Sirius to hate Jegulus, but sometimes I don't think it's realistic. Can you imagine how over the moon he would be for his TWO FAVOURITE PEOPLE to be together? He would probably be ecstatic because he knows that James is a good person and would definitely treat Reg right
