Legoshi was more clingy than usual, and you had an idea of why that was. You were going on a trip back to your hometown. It was a family event that was going to last about two weeks and you had to come...alone.

The stage crew is doing their best, so we actors are going to do our best with our dancing practice. We're very inspired!" Juno smiled widely and only had her eyes on him. "Yeah, you guys did great. Seeing as it's also my first time seeing it, I'm proud of each one of you. I'll be sure to take pictures of all of them when they're finished," Misaki smirked and showed that her lock screen was now the T-Rex Statue they painted, making sure she looked everyone in the eye. 

"Aww, Misaki!" Dom looked flattered. "I'm happy it exceeded your expectations!" Kibi smiled as everyone in the creatives team was appreciative of Misaki's honest remark. "Ah, speaking of, Misaki," Shiela walked up to the human and dragged her towards Louis. "We have some sudden news to share with you," she shared as Louis glared at the cheetah due to her comment before. 

"Yes, Sanu suggested that you'll be our main dancer," Louis mentioned and Misaki was shocked. "What!? What do you mean? I'll be at the front?" Misaki covered her mouth with her hand. "One of our dancers won't be available for the festival and you know the dances well. So, they made Juno be back up and you in the center since you know the dance very well," he shared.

"There's only two days left though," she looked worried. "You'll do fine, you the entire dance anyway," Louis was confident. "Did... did Tarok tell you that I'll be revealed too? Is that why you weren't opposed to it?" Misaki asked. 

"Yes, he did tell me. I asked his permission for the dance and he's fine with it. You won't be wearing that get-up anymore," Louis smirked and Misaki sighed. "Fine, fine. I'll do it. Your head was on his chest, he was shirtless and his fur was fluffy, thanks to the cream. He covers you with his arms, and most of your body was being covered by his arms, you weren't that small but he was almost a giant.

After a long time of you two enjoying each other's company. You two ended up sleeping with the TV on, his chest was going up and down, and his heartbeat was helping you sleep more.

Moments like these are always relaxing, you were a lucky person for having an amazing boyfriend at your disposal.

You haven't seen Riz for awhile now. Ever since the truth has been found out, ever since Legoshi confronted him that night and blood was spilled, nobody really wanted to talk about the former Cherryton student. It's like he was a ghost now, one that needed to be forgotten. But you couldn't move on.

The news spoke of him, calling him a 'dangerous individual' and a 'heartless monster' for taking Tem's life for his selfish desires. Sure, he was selfish for wanting to continue the chain of 'predators feast upon prey' chain, but he didn't deserve half of the things said about him. You knew that very well.

You refused to visit Riz due to many reasons, one of them being the not-so-pleasant memories you had with him, in which he no longer smiled warmly, but with malicious intent. Yet one of the other students visited him, and said he was a changed bear. So, you clenched your jaws and gathered all of your courage and made your way towards the facility where your friend was held.

It took awhile to get you to talk to him, mainly because you didn't reserve a meeting with him. You waited, seated on a chair, anxiously tapping your claw against your lap. Countless questions swarmed your brain, questions only the future would be able to answer. Before you could get too lost, footsteps could be heard approaching, and you looked up to see one of the guards.

''Follow me.'' The tiger stated, and you wasted no time in getting up and trailing after the taller animal. Before you could enter the room where Riz was held, you were supposed to drop your phone and other metallic accessories in a small tray. You did as told, anxiety bubbling inside of you the longer you had to follow the guard.

You stopped in front of a metal door, which was guarded by two other animals─one of them a bull, and the other a lion. Or a maned lioness? Before they could unlock the door they had to give you the rules. ''No getting too close to the inmate. You are to not give him anything, no matter how small or harmless it is. You will be monitored and your conversation will be recorded. Is that clear?'' The lion's soothing voice caressed your ear, and you identified them as a lioness. You nodded, finding difficulty in speaking at the moment, and the bull turned to unlock the door.

You stepped inside, instantly greeted with a table and two chairs, positioned across each other, and you hesitantly took a seat. There was nothing that you could hear aside from the soft thumping of your heart, and the occasional chair creaking under your weight. You lightly flinched as the metallic door was opened once more, and you turned around to see Riz handcuffed, with a muzzle and the two guards holding him by his arms. They led him to the other chair, swiftly cuffing him to the table, before disappearing quickly and locking the door behind them.

You stared at Riz, and he stared at you. He had an apologetic smile on his face, which you could barely spot due to the restraints he had around his muzzle. He'd be lying if he said he didn't miss you,

And you'd be lying if you said you didn't miss him.

Riz spoke to you calmly, and even tried to wave, despite the handcuffs not really helping him.

He talked to you about the past, how he was feeling, and even apologized for the way he's treated you. He said that his time in jail has made him understand certain things that his past self couldn't have ever understand.

He wanted to start all over with you and treat you the way you should be treated.

You were hesitant, you didn't know whether you should or not.

But when you saw the tired look in his eyes, the guilt clawing at his throat whenever he spoke, you knew he truly changed.

And you accepted.

Nearly every week, when time allowed you, you'd visit Riz.

The guards have grown used to you, and they said they might remove his muzzle if he behaved nicely. Obviously they needed approval from their superior, but Riz's behavior was monitored 24/7, they knew he was no longer the beast that they brought in.

Unfortunately you never knew how long he would remain in prison, but you promised you'd wait for him.

Soon enough, due to his good behavior, he was allowed to receive gifts.

You bought him books, poetry, and even paper for him to continue his passion for origami.

He appreciated every single gift you brought him, and promised that he will do the same to you when he's out.

Started Heartsong. No significant progress, but it's like almost two in the morning, so I'm allowed. This is mostly just me reporting to the Pack.

So this one's Robbie's story. Great. Excellent. I'm going to cry a lot, right? I'm going to regret how much of Book One I spent being afraid this little dork would betray the Pack, aren't I?

I'm only like fifty pages in, and about to pass-out, but it feels necessary to basically scream at the top of my digital lungs that I've stopped being lazy (interpret that lie properly as: deeply, cowardicely, afraid) about starting this book.

Not too tired to note have notes, though:

So, Robbie has issues. Deep-seated trauma. Gasp. Whoever would have guessed that a Green Creek Protagonist would basically have Joy locked in a box at the bottom of a chasm if they were an Inside Out character.

So, this minor Virginia Pack has an Omega, which, I mean, we knew the infection corrupting wolves' tethers wasn't exactly a recent development, just one Alpha Bitch Hughes hid from eveeyone. Still, I've had Brodie for like fifteen minutes now, and I'm deeply concerned for him.

No one likes Robbie. Shocking.

Ezra seems like such a cool guy. His death will bring me sadness. I'm sorry: surrogate father to a character without a family. He will either die, or betray Robbie. I've read a book before. Evidence indicates I might have read at least two. None of this bodes well for him.

So it's twice now in fifty pages that someone has attempted to romance Robbie. This tells me three things: my sweet child here is absolutely hot as balls and clueless about it; he hasn't grasped yet that he might be gay; he is undeniably clueless when someone is flirting eith him. We are talking Legoshi levels of cluelessness.

I'm going to acknowledge the weird nightmare stuff, the creepy lullaby stuff, and Robbie's relationship with his deceased mother, but I'm not going to speculate on what any of this might be about. Robbie's inability to properly control his wolf is interesting, and I'm sure a certain incredibly confused Bennett will do a lot of the heavy lifting in him sorting that out.

Holy hell, do I look forward to Kelly and Robbie's incredibly awkward courting. I'm especially looking forward to seeing how Robbie justifies his really weird flirting with Ox in Book One to himself. Being the viewpoint character means I get to watch that cringiness from behind the curtains, as it were.

Anyhwa, it's good to be back to the world of sexually confused werewolf boys. Good to have something that doesn't insist on dragging me into a techno-existential crisis to fall back on.

How different do you think Beastars would be if Legosi, Leano, Toki, and Gosha were species-swapped? That means Legosi, Leano, and Toki are Komodo Dragons while Gosha is a wolf. (Optional: Maybe in addition, Miyagi would also be a Komodo Dragon - if you took it further, maybe a member of the Dokugumi, unless the role of estranged dad could go to Savon instead?)

The Conflict of Legoshi's Family

I can't speak to Paru's intention, but, in my mind, Legoshi's family is used to show the consequences and indeed, what could happen if Legoshi continues to pursue his interspecies relationship with Haru. That is, a ruined family that is plagued with the loss (and, potentially the suicide) of Toki and Leano. In Toki's case, it is up to the reader's interpretation as to whether her final act -- kissing Gosha without anti-sceptic, and going the extra mile to throw away all the disinfectant he owns while knowingthat his venom is poisonous -- is one of love, or of suicide. Leano's suffering is likewise directly linked to being the child of an interspecies relationship.

The conflict of Legoshi's family has always been interspecies mixing. Though it's tempting to say that the issue is Gosha's species and its native venom, I could still see the family's tragedies playing out similarly.

After all, mixed-species relationships are heavily discouraged, and the children of those relationships even moreso.

Species Swap: Legoshi's Family

For the sake of answering this ask, I’ll run with the assumption that only the characters mentioned (Legoshi’s family, and Miyagi) were species-swapped, and that all other characters (Louis, Juno, et cetera) remain the same.

Parroting what I wrote in the previous section, the conflict of Legoshi’s family has always been interspecies mixing. Because of this, I don’t believe that the family’s tragedy would change. If anything, it would change forms. What do I mean by this?

Let’s look at Leano.

Leano, in the manga, was able to pass as a full blooded grey wolf for much of her youth. She locks herself in her room after her scales begin to develop, marking her as the half blood-mix she truly is.

In this alternate universe where Leano was always a Komodo dragon, perhaps she would have leaned more into her Komodo dragon heritage. In my mind, since venomous creatures are shunned by society, Leano would have been pushed into associating herself with her fellow Komodo dragons. We can go one step further and suggest that she did not inherit Gosha’s deadly venom – a trait that makes fraternising with others much, much easier. So, Leano has her Komodo dragon friends, and, as a result of being venomless, even manages to make a few non-reptilian friends, too.

Life goes great for her until two things happen: 1) Her fur begins to grow in and 2) Her venom, once non-existent, develops so that it is exceptionally strong. The social life she built crumbles.

And maybe Leano hears about Miyagi – an up and coming Komodo dragon actor who has no venom. Maybe, just maybe, Leano hooks up with him in the hopes that her child will be spared from developing venom. After all, venom only serves to drive others away from you: sitting at the back of restaurants, and always needing to be mindful of your emotions lest you accidentally kill someone…

If Leano could spare her child from that life, she’ll be satisfied.

The Beastars Manga as a Whole

It’s a bit trickier to determine how the rest of the manga would go. The main plot would remain the same, but certain points would not develop the same way. The best character I could use to explain my point is Juno.

In the manga, Juno begins to fall for Legoshi after he protects her from a pair of bullies. Her infatuation with him is also propelled by the fact that they are of the same species: they are both grey wolves. Juno also believes that it’s best if members of the same species stick together: grey wolves should marry other grey wolves, and rabbits should marry other rabbits.

And yet … making Legoshi a Komodo dragon doesn’t really impact his relationship with Juno. Hell, once Juno sets her sights on becoming the Beastar, being in an interspecies relationship might be good publicity for her, which could work towards her goal of making the world a better place for carnivores.

The news affected more than just the school, all relations became strained throughout the city. When the talk of segregation rose, a backwards step, Cherryton Academy proposed an ... 'observation'. Rooming a carnivore and herbivore together. The expected backlash met with accusations. 'You're going to put an herbivore's life at risk?' 'You're assuming a carnivore is an automatic risk?' A double standard so to speak. It was set. Very few students were chosen, but it was still voluntary in the end and they could leave the arrangement at any time. Louis hadn't properly met Jack before but he knew of the young man's presence. A close friend of that wolf. The deer understood the assignment but with his after school activities keeping him mostly out of the dorm, it was counterproductive to chose him. He only agreed to help gain more status. He had not entered the room yet, opting to standing in the doorway and examine his temporary roommate. A Labrador retriever, a dog breed know for their friendliness. No surprise they didn't pick someone like Bill. "So," he strolled and closed the door behind him, still focused on the other man as his fingers grazed the lock, debating to use it or not, "Jack it is?" He decided to lock then fold his arms. "Seems you're stuck with me." [[ @bloodvelvett ]]

The idea of putting an herbivore and carnivore in the same room sounded almost horrific after hearing of the murder that happened prior to any of this. He remembered talking to Legoshi about the incident, how it had brought a rise in paranoia in school because of an herbivore being the victim of such a horrible crime. They were the victims to any cause, and the committer was always a carnivore.

Anything was there to attack one of their own kind. Each side had its rumors and weaknesses that could break their own morale. Jack himself was hesitant to think about what this could mean for one another. All that truly mattered to him was finding that happiness with one another. Surely, this wouldn't divide them that much, would it?

That was what he was afraid of.

"Oh! Y-Yes, Jack! That's me!" He sounded surprised, unexpectedly put with Louis - the aspired deer that he recalled seeing once or twice with Legoshi. Were they friends? "I, uhm... I didn't know they had put you with me! I-I thought that... you would be with Legoshi!"

The poor pup wasn't too sure about this sort of assignment, but he also didn't know if Legoshi had been taken to be apart of this as well. He was anxious, to say the least. Something unknown to him was up to learning, but this was... new. And unexpected. Shuffling in his seat, the room was awfully quiet and cold once he had entered.

"...i-it's nice to meet you, Lous," he managed to smile, wagging his tail. "I guess you learned I'm Legoshi's friend! An... old friend! How did you two... know each other?"

this is some good-ass animation that they've decided to mute and set to America's football halftime showtune (it's just all slow and loud and showy so it makes me think of that, I have no idea what the actual song is but I think most of it's in English)

I'll say this about the last quarter, I like the bad guy's purple energy butterfly wings

I guess they knew he'd be impossible to write from there without officially making him an antagonist. hell, how often does a movie have to specify one character not remembering the events from it? (I know, from the writer's perspective it's just that he would talk about it, but really, they're way too generous to his personality in general)

the kid's only got a healing quirk, stop telling him he'll be a hero, he'll think he's a front-liner when he can do no good there. the back line is just as important.

eh. end part was a little annoying, but was good movie overall. Pretty much everybody got to do cool shit, and the action bits were cool.

lunch date

Summary: You forget your lunch. Legoshi, the ever-thoughtful boyfriend, decides to drop it off for you and uses this opportunity to address something that’s been bugging him.

As if your day at work can’t get any worse, the incessant growling from your stomach makes you realize that you forgot to bring lunch. You can picture it now: the checkered-gingham-wrapped bento sitting innocently on your kitchen counter.

“I made sure to pack all your favorites,” Legoshi muttered, voice groggy from the dredges of sleep. He must have stayed up preparing it after his night shift, so it would be ready for you the next morning.

But due to your rush to find your car keys and make it on time that morning, you forgot to grab it.

Damn. You bite down on the inside of your cheek, mentally going over the vending machine fare on the first floor of your office building. You had chips for lunch the other day, so this time…

A packaged sandwich and apple juice it is.

While your day seems to get progressively shittier, it takes great restraint for you to avoid texting Legoshi about it. Your canine boyfriend is a kind soul, and never turns you away, even in your less-than-ideal moods (which are quite frequent). He always offers his shoulder to cry on or ear to vent to, no matter how awkward he is about it.

But lately you've been worried that your negativity has been irking him. You decided to stop venting to him, no matter how natural it is to you. It's time you learned to be independent! So you do something you haven't done in forever--you turn your phone on silent and leave it in your desk drawer. Cracking your knuckles together, you decide on making the best out of your shitty day.

However, that’s probably why you don't get Legoshi’s calls or texts once he notices the bento left on the counter. Cocking his head, he figures that since he has the day off, he'll bring it to you. Truthfully, he wants any kind of excuse to hang out with you; you've been quite distant lately, and these days he hears less and less from you. While the small texts from you throughout the day managed to put a smile on his face at work, nowadays he struggles with the crippling disappointment at the lack of notice from you.

If it was just that, Legoshi wouldn’t be as concerned. But you've also been brushing him off whenever he asks about your day, leaving room for the self-doubt to start trickling in.

Is there a reason you're pulling back? Is it something he did?

Is it something he could fix?

Legoshi wants to get to the bottom of things, before his anxiety eats away at him like it tends to.

As soon as you clock off for lunch, you're surprised to see a familiar figure arguing with the security guard at your work.

“Ah… I’m just looking for (Y/N)… Do you know which floor…?”

Legoshi shifts his weight onto one leg, rubbing the back of his neck self-consciously. You're more than certain he's aware of the way the badger security guard cowers at the sight of him.

“N-No, I don't!" he squeaks.

“Legoshi!” You call, and his ears twitch. He turns his head swiftly, his eyes lighting up at the sight of you, the corners of his lips pulling upwards into his version of a dopey smile. He acts like he hadn't seen you just this morning--like every time you lock eyes is the first time.

It's stupidly cute. You can't help cracking a smile yourself.

He calls your name, jogging over to you. Then leaning down, he presents the bento to you between two large hands. “You forgot this.”

“Thanks! I was just about to grab something."

Legoshi pauses, and when you glance at him, he seems to be staring at you intently, as if trying to anticipate your reaction. He clears his throat. “I was wondering if we could uh, eat together?” he asks, procuring his own wrapped lunch.

"Ah, sure!”

“We haven’t done this in awhile,” Legoshi comments as the two of you sit on the grass just outside your workplace. He offered to let you sit on his sweater, in case you ruin your work pants, but you declined.

"We haven't," you agreed, untying the cloth wrapping. You sigh happily when you see the lunch he packed you; it was simple, but he took great pains to make it presentable, even adding cute little food picks to the vegetables. It's adorable.

He waits for you to take a few bites, watching you as he chewed thoughtfully on his egg salad sandwich, before he speaks up. "It, uh, seems like I barely see you nowadays. Or... hear from you."

Legoshi tries to come off as casual, but he feels like there is one obvious message relayed in the downward cast of his brows, in the way his voice falls flat.

I miss you.

"Yeah, uh... work's been pretty busy," you say absently, fiddling with a cherry tomato in your lunch pack. "Sorry."

Legoshi stifles a wince. Okay. Distant answer. Not very promising. But he persists, because if there's one thing he is, it's determined to figure out what he did wrong.

"How've you been doing?"

"Oh, you know." You offer him a tight smile. "The same. Usual... stuff."

"Really? You don't seem very..." He purses his lips, thinking of the correct word.

"Yeah," you say, frowning slightly. "It's been, ah..."

This is awkward, even by his standards. Legoshi frowns at the gap between you two that he can't seem to bridge, no matter how much he wants to. When did you two become so distant?

He sighs, leaning back on his hands. His mouth a thin line, his gaze travels to your surroundings, to the grass--anywhere but you, his mind abuzz with thoughts. 

You seem frustrated yourself. "Look Legoshi, I--"

Here it comes. He wonders idly what it is that he’s done. Are you really going to break up with him? He hides the slight tremble of his hands by digging his claws into the earth beneath him, before exhaling softly.

"I-I get it."

"It's just been so hard to not--to not jump on the chance to complain about things even second of the day!”

His gaze snaps to you. "W-What?"

"I know--I really should be less pessimistic. I mean, my therapist said I should. I feel really bad about complaining to you all the time and--"

"You're not... mad at me?" he says slowly.

"And like, you're so nice. You never even tell me to stop. But sometimes I wish you would! I worry my bad mood is rubbing off on you. I know you're a sensitive kind of guy and--"

"Wait." Legoshi jerks forward, gripping the tops of your arms before relinquishing his hold when he notices how sharp his claws look against your arm. You stare at him wide-eyed.

His brow creases. "You're... you haven't been talking to me because you're worried it’lll..."

"Bring your mood down? I mean, yeah." You blink as if it's the most obvious conclusion to come to in the world. Then you yelp as Legoshi wraps his arms around you, drawing you into his embrace.

"Legoshi?” you ask, patting his back. He sighs, relaxing into his hold on you.

"I thought I did something wrong..." he mumbles.

"Hm? You?"

He pulls back, a frown sitting heavy on his face. "It's not like you to just not... talk anymore."

You purse your lips, before nodding slowly--then once more, thoughtfully now. "...Oh. Ah, yeah. I see--I see why you’d think that."

He scratches the back of his ear with one of his claws. "This is simpler than I thought it would be."

You blink several times at him, unmoved by his conclusion. "Is it."

"Yeah.” He stares at you. "I mean... It's a lot easier to deal with if it's just a misunderstanding."

"I... guess...?” you say, confused. Legoshi had a way of stating things without explaining himself clearly. But in this case, you suppose you were also in the wrong."Sorry... I was trying to work on myself, but I didn't realize how it might come across..."

"I don't...” Legoshi sits cross-legged, his elbows on his knees before lowering his mouth to them. You recognize this as his thinking pose. “I don't mind if you need space, or you don't wanna talk. But... I don't want you to think that I don't want you to talk. I mean..." You cock your head to the side, and he pauses, before continuing in a different manner. "I don't... I'd prefer if you talked to me rather than just... kept it to yourself..." he finishes.

"Okay.” You nod thoughtfully. “I can do that.”

He exhales slowly, as if releasing a huge weight off his shoulders, and it’s at this point that you see something on the ground. 

“Oh no! You dropped your sandwich.”

The remnants of his egg salad lay smushed on the ground, probably from when he lurched forward to hug you. A few ants were crawling on the egg-mayo filling, and the two of you stared for a second. Legoshi sighs. “It’s fine.”

“Here.” You offer him a bite of the omelette he had made you, and he pauses, seeming bashful. You prod it towards his jaw once more, and he opens his mouth, before swallowing. When your gaze meets his, he ducks his head down, rubbing his neck.

Behind him, his tail thumps the floor excitedly. The one indicator of his true feelings. 

"Thanks. I--you know I was supposed to be the one feeding you.”

“I know. But consider this... reparations? For worrying you,” you murmur when he snaps his head up. He accepts your next bite of food with less hesitance, but with a softness to his gaze that has your heart pounding. You check your phone, only to see the time.

"Oh! I need to head back."

"Let me walk you back,” he offers, helping you pack up.

When you’ve said your goodbyes, Legoshi’s walking back to the train when his phone buzzes. It’s a text from you.”

"Thank you for bringing the lunch! It really sweetened up my day. :)"

"No problem. :)” 

He chews on the inside of his lip as he sees the three dots by your name. You’re writing him something.

"When I get home, I have to tell you about this bitch in accounting."

He raises a brow, ducking his head. Sometimes, it’s nice to know things don’t change.
