i agree with you on the playlists, though. while i'm not the best at music and i think a lot of my takes are pretty modern and not very set in 2009, i think it's really stupid when dave playlists trying to reflect him as a person have two rappers like yung gravy and eminem. i get that people think it's funny and they put it there to try and make it look ironic. when i think of something dave listens to ironically, i think of viper, 60percenthomo, djclent, teejayx6, and lil b. i think we miss his irony schtick by a long mile. dave's mischaracterization in the fandom is horrendous. but that's just my opinion. also, people don't give credit to how cool dave actually is! they make him a lot lamer, which, i mean, he's still lame, but not to that extent.

I just watched the Shadow Dark Beginnings animation preview and bro.... where do I even begin?

Now listen, I talk about Splatoon 99% of the time here, but you gotta understand something, Sonic was my first love in gaming. Ever since I played the classic games, Unleashed, Heroes, Rush and Rush Adventure. And watching clips from Adventure 1 and 2. I've always been a humongous fan of this franchise. I grew up in the crowd that watched those "I FEEL LIKE A MONSTER" amvs of Sonic the Werehog for f sake. I had a printed out poster of a render from Sonic and the Black Knight on my wall as a kid because I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

So, seeing this series FINALLY go back to actually telling more serious stories while being sincere about it too... man... it makes me so. Damn. HAPPY!!!! Frontiers wasn't a one time thing, the darker and more serious stories are actually gonna stick around now. I think we're finally free from the 2010s where we were stuck with "BALDY NOSEHAIR! THAT'S THE BEST THING IVE HEARD ALL DAY!" For a literal decade.

Us Sonic fans had to go through the 2010s where the series made fun of itself and was all "comedy" and stopped doing the cool serious shit they used to do... it makes me so happy that they are FINALLY diving into things they haven't talked about in over a decade. They aren't scared anymore to show a fucking human in this god damn franchise because a bunch of gaming journalists who dont give a fuck about the series said "humans in sonic are BAD!" They aren't scared to show Maria and something like Emerl. EMERL?!?! FROM SONIC BATTLE?!?!?! THAT'S SO COOL!!! I BARELY PLAYED BATTLE BUT STILL! THATS AWESOME!

Now.... was some of the stuff in the 2000s going way too far? Like Shadow saying "you're going straight to hell" and murdering Dr Eggman in non canon endings. And a human kissing a dead Hedgehog to bring him back? Yeah that's way too far. DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATHWATER!!!! Lost World and Forces man. My God. Ugh.

Anyways, yeah I'm so excited and so hopeful for this franchise again. Before Frontiers came out I was so nervous if the game was gonna be good or not and what you may say about the game itself, it did appeal to tons of people and became the highest selling 3D Sonic game of all time, beating out Heroes. I am now actually fully confident and excited for Frontiers 2 or whatever the next game shall be.

so the short answer is fun, but i can never just say one sentence and be done with it soooo i elaborated and wrote a whole essay below. sorry not sorry

anyway if you didn't want my origin story no shame in that, it's not gonna be on the quiz, just keep scrolling :P

to cover all my bases let me start from the beginning and work my way forward...

i think pretty much all kids draw at least a little just because they can, but the thing that really inspired me to take art seriously was the great abundance of cat animations on youtube in the early 2010s... warrior cats amvs mostly, but also artists like bani the kitty and splashkittyartist! you can really see these inspirations in my early digital art hehehe (see below by attle b. age 8)

from then until about age 14 art was just... my thing? i did it pretty much everyday, probably couldn't have imagined life without it... i think back then my motivations were more inline with your typical social media artist motivations... get better, be seen, and maybe make a career out of it? never made it that far though because ehhhh life has different plans i guess

i fell into an art slump in the middle of high school for a variety of personal reasons i won't get into, and as such i had to give up my dreams of creating art as a job

as sad as that was in the moment, it forced me to change my outlook on the whole ordeal in a way that i think was ultimately healthier for me.

that brought me to where i am now! since i have no goals beyond keeping at it as a hobby, i do it simply because i enjoy the process, the product, and i feel like it lets me connect with my interests in a way i otherwise couldn't.

it's a fun way to express love for the things i care about, and while i still enjoy honing my skills i don't feel the same pressure to be perfect that i used to which is really freeing!!

so in that sense it's intrinsic motivation that makes me draw what i draw... however, the amount of art i put out and the polish i give it is definitely motivated by the eyes i have on me... while i'd still be drawing the same things if no one was watching, i would not be putting nearly as much effort into it, nor would i be doing it as regularly, so i do thank you guys for keeping me on track there <3

I love how resolved he is and true to himself! I feel like if I was him, I would have tried anything to fit in and not seem like an outsider, but Sejanus is proud and true to his District roots! I really admire him for that!

Least favorite thing

Every time, I imagine him sitting alone at recess and stuff when he's a kid/even like just before tbosas. I get so sad. I get war flashbacks. It upsets me a bit.

Like Sejanus isn't a schemer like Cassius or any of that, but they both give me the head in hands "someone help him! someone give him a hug!" feeling. Guy is throwing himself at a mission with a high likelihood of death and the high likelihood is like not a deterrent.

A headcanon about that character

I once mentioned that Felix definitely ignored Sejanus when he was being sad even though Felix would probably understand that loneliness so well (in my hc), and let me tell you. That was the one time the psychic damage that Felix did to me was not a good thing in my books.

From what I've seen, there are only three types of Noco shippers that exists:

Children / Tweens. They are obsesed about them on Tiktok or used to ship them in 2010 and make nightcore AMVs of but grew out of that phase and now either ship Nowen or Alenoah. Kinda annoying but ultimately harmless, they're just kids having fun.

Gay Transmascs. The friendliest Noco shippers, their art is corny but it's always super wholesome or really funny and they kin / project on at least one of the two. They see Noco as T4T and, after talking with them, you will agree with all of their headcanons.

jock - 2nd gen chinese american, one of the things i liked in the original actually was when they sexualized the jock (probably cause hes the only one who doesnt look 14 in that comic) and his big tits. hes a very genuinely kind guy, not the brightest, has a voracious appetite, he also still bakes cause thats cute i think.

prep - he looks different here because i was originally going to make him white but i decided to make him a light/medium skintone black guy (he just wears a blonde wig and contacts). when companies make their pride month merchandise and advertisements this is the exact person they imagine in their head who is going to buy these products. hes a million percent one of those swifties who thinks taylor swift is secretly a lesbian. trust fund kid btw obviously. his only redeeming quality is that hes good at makeup. jokes in the comic are usually made at his expense.

goth - 1st gen latino american, specifically peruvian because i am a self serving motherfucker. hes a really big numetal fan and listens to like 2000s evil wolf amv music in addition to legitimate gothic. his face changed a little too between this and the final design. his outfit completely changed but its only because i realized everyone else was dressed for relatively warm weather so it wouldnt make sense for him to be wearing multiple layers of black. if i do cold weather outfits for them id def reuse this look for him. hes still trans but i think all of them are in my version. also they dont use labels for their sexual/rom orientation. except prep hes homosexual gay.

If I'm being honest, I miss when edits were 2 or 3 minute long videos set to a whole song. When you could just go on YouTube and search 'x character or ship' edit or amv. And not be bombarded with mostly irrelevant shorts followed by a few 20 second long clips 🙄. Don't get me wrong I love the short form video style of TikTok edits but sometimes I want something more substantial and that is so hard to come across these days. I came into fandom in the mid 2010s as a teen and many of the fandoms I was hardcore in were 2000s shows and movies which just means I had all the wonderful edits from that period at my fingertips and it was predominantly video edits roughly the length of one whole song. In the 2010s Instagram edits (before reels) were a go-to for me and that was great, but I knew I could go to YouTube to get a bigger more satisfying fix often from the same creators who just posted the long form version of their edits on YouTube. I can see the work that goes into even shorter edits, but a whole song with a continuous edit of a character or ship 😍. The work, time, and passion that goes into that is something to be admired. It's a dying artform in fandom with every platform introducing some kind of short form video thing. Social media was better when different platforms had a distinct purpose and the didn't try to copy each other. IF I WANT TIKTOK I WILL USE IT, I DON'T WANT EVERYWHERE TO BE TIKTOK!!! Fandom was at it's peak in the 2000s/10s when people could widely connect through online spaces and the rise of social media sites (with specific purposes), but had yet to breach containment to people who have no business being in fandom just to complain that things are so weird. Fandom is always weird, you like the weird you like and, you ignore the weird you don't!!! Anyway that's my rant for the day. Am I considered fandom old if I've been doing this shit for a decade now? Because I sometimes feel it.

like if I happen to be on tumblr when an ep comes out I'm like *O* and I'll post about it cause to me tumblr was always a "get your feelings out in the moment" site so in those moments I'm like aaaah new ep!

but never like talk talked about it, last time would be over 10 years ago defo

honestly? its special to me. Ive a great memory but I defo struggle with this not knowing the order, so it was either a) I decided to finally watch AN ANIME for the first time ever and put on inuyasha, THEN got curious about returning to yugioh and discovered season 0 and THEN watched the abridged or b) I randomly remembered I'd never seen the end of ygo and so looked up amvs of it on youtube thus discovering ygo season 0 came first and then found the abridged through that and THEN realised I wanted to welcome anime into my life and so I started Inuyasha and sooooo on down I went, the anime road from then on

so, ygo abridged is at the beginning of that journey

at that time in my life, I was heavily struggling with ocd. and I was ditching school a lot. if I wasn't hiding in the town library for 6 hours, I was at a friends who decided to ditch with me. I had my two reliables. and we always watched the abridged together. quoted it non-stop. eventually I was dating a lad for a month, and when we broke up (he had the same friends as me), HE started quoting the abridged with them as well cause they showed it to him. made me MAD! lmao

it was also something I watched every time we went on a ride to look at houses during the recession in 2009-2010. those long drives. abridged kept me and my brother sane lol

and then cut to being online with online friends, and tumblr, we all shared the abridged love with each other.

it was just unfortunate the episodes were rarer at that point but definitely... more frequent than they are now. they were coming out prob around 4.... times a year. maybe? whereas they used to be weekly. so that was a big change.

and now they're once a year. you're lucky if there's 2.

but here's the thing.

yeah its a parody. but idk... the fact that you can just pick up where you left off every time and not be a confused mess makes me happy. the fact that the characters are so distinctive and you never forget their personality traits is amazing to me.

I'm just proud of LK bc he could have dropped it a long time ago. I've seen youtube channels have their hype years and then fans disappear CONSTANTLY. video views going from 2.5 mill to maybe 30k. it happens.

but a good chunk of people who have been watching the abridged now for 15 years now or more still get excited when a new once a year ep drops. you just pick it up, have a giggle fest, wipe away a tear and then move on. never sitting there in anticipation for the next cause you know it'll be a while. just... happy to go on youtube and see one randomly there on a random day when you're not looking for it.

my ONLY con here is that, bruh, season 5 to me is the best ygo arc. I been wanting to see that shit abridged for soooooooooo fucking long. there's so many scenes that I wanna know what he does with. I want to see Bakura without Marik, cause LK's flaw with Bakura was that he knew how to write Marik on his own but not Bakura on his own. so I wanna see that more. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

ohhhhhh it is so hard to choose between my children but RIGHT NOW my gut is telling me it's We Can Hold You, my collective narrator Harrow Nova/Alecto dream not-exactly-sex-but-not-not-sex with background Gideon &/ Harrow.

I was working off a prompt for IdProQuo, and Nova/Alecto was a ship I hadn't even considered before but the prompt was so intriguing and RTMI that I grabbed it. i LOVE Harrow Nova AUs (my favorite Harrow to write), plus fiddling with canon to make Nova and Alecto even MEET much less suck face was a ton of fun, I felt soooooo >:3 when I figured it out.

Also I loved writing (my headcanon of) Alecto's version of desire. IMO she is like the ocean. does the ocean want to fuck? unclear, but it definitely wants to consume.

What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?

*scrolls through my WIP list document* i have hope for most of them (even when that hope is very slim...) (or when the fic is so indulgent hope isn't even on the table). but whenever i think of a specific fic idea to be "ill never write this" to im like (thinking emoji) well actually.... (<- delusional)

IDK if I had to pick, probably most of my long plotty modern AU fic ideas. i LOVE long plotty modern AUs, writing a long plotty modern AU is like, a dream of mine & as my DMs can attest i am not in any way short of ideas, but i don't think any of them will be happening anytime soon every time I sit down to write one of those ideas it just does not go well

If you could see one of your fics adapted into a visual medium, such as comic or film, which fan fic would you pick?

HMMM I'd probably go with Bury Me, Bury Me, my Kiriona/Ianthe fic where no one gets off and no one is having a good time and where I finally assert my long held personal headcanons about Kiriona's stigmata/what she allows to be done with it. a comment said "I'm not sure if I'd count this as sex or like two people beating the shit out of each other in an Applebee's parking lot but it's not assault because they both agreed to fight" and it's correct.

I'd want to make it a comic book, because a logline of the fic is that Kiriona has no sexual experience whatsoever and her only point of reference is porn comics, that she tries to replicate here to limited & personally ruinous results. OR maybe a music video/AMV, because I need to inflict my Kiriona-is-in-her-edgy-2010's-alt-music-era headcanon on people

what the hell is going on with japanese memes

i realize this is exactly the kind of thing I usually dump about on discord or something, so why not here? this is an example of the kind of rabbit hole searching that i love to do, and one of the reasons why I love language learning -- it's advanced eavesdropping!

So it all started when I came across this tweet of the vtuber Houshou Marine singing...something in karaoke. The backing instrumental sounds familiar, but the lyrics seem to be completely made up. What she's singing can be loosely translated to:

Teikyou Heisei University! You can learn a wide arrange of disciplines, including Confucianism! This place is amazing! Teikyou Heisei University! I want to live! Take me with you!

Of course, any self-respecting One Piece fan will instantly recognize that last bit, which is all the more impressive given how quickly Marine is able to shift into a really spot-on impression of the famous line by Nico Robin during the Enies Lobby arc. I thought this was really fun, but the lyrics seemed a bit too random to be made up on the spot, with the smooth transition and everything. So I looked it up on Youtube and here it is, a meme from November with 5 million views:

This is an 音MAD, or "sound MAD". MAD is sort of the Japanese word for AMV, but you can see in this video that it encompasses something much wider to that, maybe comparable to a Youtube poop or some other kind of meme. It seems the 音 (sound) qualifier, as far as I can tell, refers to an edit that chops up dialogue in such a way that new words can be heard. We've all seen those videos of like, Barack Obama singing an Ed Sheeran song or whatever -- it's kind of like that.

This one is particularly impressive, at least to me, because the cuts between the natural dialogue and the made up dialogue are really smooth, and the made up dialogue sounds pretty good. The idea is basically that it's an ad for Tokyo Heisei University to the tune of the ED of the 2022 Urusei Yatsura series -- presumably because the phrase "Teikyou Heisei Daigaku" matches well with the melody and lyrics of "Tokyo Shandy Rendezvous", as well as the fact that the monologue at the beginning of the One Piece openings refers to a Great Age of Pirates (dai kaizoku jidai) which is easily modifiable to Great Age of Universities (dai daigaku jidai).

The dialogue is mostly taken from Japanese commercials for One Piece Red (at least, I believe) which are much memed upon in Japan. They're modified to be testimonials of the Straw Hat crew talking about how great it is to enroll. In the middle, there is an extended clip of Chopper's dialogue from the Drum Island arc with the caption 2 years ago: "I have a horn, and hooves...I want to learn a variety of disciplines, but...." and the Nico Robin bit just caps it all off.

That's pretty much it. There's not a lot of irony or metacommentary or anything. Even the comments seem to be surprised at how old school it is -- reminiscent of memes on Nico Nico Douga back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, which often consisted of silly, absurd, creative fan edits like this. Again, this is somewhat like the Youtube Poops that we had in the anglosphere.

Anyway, that's as much as I was able to piece together from the meme, just thought it was neat to go on a detective journey like this. A lot of the thrill of language learning, for me, comes from these kinds of situations. People are talking to each other, making in-jokes, and I just like to figure it all out.

I dunno what stung YouTube to show me stuff that is in my videos' history from 7-10 years ago.

I am listening this euro-(re)mix of Hamasaki Ayumi's many songs from that early 2000s era, and I remember it BECAUSE I still have in my mind that one video that someone made around 2012-2015 with many, MANY cliches of anime visual openings and hell knows if the video is even still in YT these days :/c due to copyright and the like (it definitely counts as an AMV if you want to see it that way).

The song sounds familiar even though it's a popurri/remix of many of her songs and I might have heard (at the time) the few things that were used in anime (I think she was featured in one of In*uYasha's EDs? but that says a lot about my age, lmao - as it was one of the first of many songs I dl'ed through LimeWire). And, of course, many of the anime OP themes were indeed anime from that time (mostly pre-2010s)

"A potion for love" , AURORA

I really like these type of soft, calm but sad or melancholic songs, specially when they're about a romance that couldn't be. I'm not sure why, but my mother says I show her too many songs like that lol I love a lot of songs by AURORA anyway, they all have this like fantasy vibe I enjoy.

"Draw" , yuyoyuppe

So sad this one doesn't seem to be on Spotify :') This song is really good, the full album, which goes by the same name, is amazing too, it's my favorite one to this day. Then again I've liked all songs I've found by yuyoyuppe. I like these very emotional rock songs. I'm choosing this one because I honestly just want to recommend the album, but "Misery", "Canvas" and "Gerbera" are the ones I listen to the most (I found them all in YouTube so).

"Astronomy", Conan Gray

Just like the first one, I enjoy this one because of how bittersweet it is. Perfect travel music for those moments looking out the window I would say. And well, if a song has both romance and space related stuff, I most definitely will love it.

I think my latest posts show how much I like scenecore and late 2000/early 2010 internet vibes, and that includes songs and remixes popular at that time or new songs going for a similar vibe. Well, recently I've obsessed with this one, it reminds me of really old ship amvs on YouTube and I find that both funny and nostalgic. Besides, it always make me move to the beat lol

"te wo futte" , my dead girlfriend

I actually love all the songs in the album, "hades", the music and voices, they all just sound so ethereal, so nice, emotional and nostalgic, even if I only discovered it last year. The lyrics are really sad, for what I know, but all of them lift my mood in a pretty strange way, I wouldn't know how to describe it, but I sure did fall in love with this album the first time I listened to it. I would recommend this for those who like shoegaze.
