I was a kid with a Hunger Games hyperfixation and, from time to time, I'll get reminded of the books. With Trump's inauguration and the TikTok ban and unban, I can't stop thinking about a political tactic called panem et circenses, or bread and circuses.

In Mockingjay, Collins writes "'It’s a saying from thousands of years ago, written in a language called Latin about a place called Rome,' he explains. 'Panem et Circenses translates into "Bread and Circuses." The writer was saying that in return for full bellies and entertainment, his people had given up their political responsibilities and therefore their power.'"

In Collins' world, the Hunger Games was the entertainment. In ours, it's social media. Twitter, Meta, TikTok, are all controlled by political powers. Musk, Zuckerberg. TikTok is owned by Yiming and Rubo, but with the ban and unban, the content it shows in America is filtered to fit Trump's political agenda.

It's entertainment at the cost of information.

This whole comic is a combination of two separate pep talks I got early on from a friend and my sister telling me the same thing. For every artist, voice actor, cosplay creator, writer, and creator, do not undersell yourself. Your skills and time are worth getting paid for. And for every person looking to commission a creator, if their prices are too high or you can't afford their art, that's ok. But there are many reasons why they charge for their work. Like everyone else, we gotta make a living. These lil turtles are just the cutest and I adore their familial relationship in the series 💚 So it was great to get to draw Donnie helping Mikey with a power point presentation/pep talk.

the leverage team would have had a games night… once. everyone cheated so much and in such increasingly extreme ways that all mentions of monopoly are banned in their headquarters (this makes talking about marks who monopolize the market very confusing)

Its actively disheartening to have seen so many reactions to Wen Yifan in the first frost be 'shes constantly being saved' or declarations that Sang Yan is healing her.

Sang Yan as a character is aware that he cannot heal her, he hasnt even been able to fully Access her at this point — including the times they were in highschool. TFF has been making a point to show that he's always been good to her, but goodness and kindness can't "heal" a person, especially one who genuinely feels as though they can't recieve it.

And that loops right back into that very aggravating first point, that Yifan is always being saved and has no agency. In every way that matters, Yifan has saved herself. Shes managed to extricate herself from her familys grasp, even through abuse and grief she managed to keep her scores high, she managed to make it to university and build a career from the ground up, she's even managed to stand up against these family members that have traumatized and retraumatized her repeatedly.

Whsn she doesnt ask Sang Yan for help and he has to rush in and help her its not just a dashing romantic moment, its also her doing what she does best. Saving herself alone. The main crux of Wen Yifans arc isnt whether she can to be saved and fixed, its that constantly saving herself is what's been beating her down and her reception of new love is being hindered by it.

The drama makes it a point to show that she is consistently being harmed in places Sang Yan cant even access, like her workplace and her home, and that she has been taking every Correct Step advised and it still hasnt helped her. She's a victim of familial abuse, literal incest (presumedly), and several forms of harassment from a number of places. Her being on survival mode is whats forcing her hand in being unable to connect with people, and as a woman theres many ways in which that Cannot change without societal reform.

Very depressing to see a character whos arc and hurt is being dealt with so delicately recieve responses in this way.. Sang Yan wanting to support her and be there for her is something of a wish fulfillment fantasy but its also a plead for rest. Yifan is so busy saving herself that its chipping away at her soul. She is constantly on guard, she can't even shower without waiting for that hand to creep around the curtain. Romance is not a vehicle to "return" people to what they were, instead the show is pleading for her to truly try trusting all the people in her circle so that she can finally find new joy and create new happiness.

Miles is about to explode over being told that he's wrong, his face is red and he points an accusing finger out at Nick, who draws back in surprise. "well OBVIOUSLY they TECHNICALLY could, but nobody WOULD do it because it's a rule and people follow rules because they have to! And if you don't they'd put you in JAIL probably! So no boy would EVER kiss another boy OKAY?" Miles is tensed up waiting for Nick's response. Nick glances down at his outstretched finger, thinking about how he can prove Miles wrong, and gives it a tiny kiss. Miles starts screaming. /END ID]

Am I the only one who is thinking that Gales underwear is enchanted to keep him from getting too worked up or turned on? That man is doing everything to stop the risk of explosion. If he isn't also doing the magic equivalent of suppressing his libido, then he's gotta be doing something else for it. (Or just some seriously extreme levels of self control)

As far as I'm concerned his underwear is a chastity belt and he disenchants it once the orb is stable.

I've seen most people say that the underwear is actually what is giving him abs and I have some thoughts.

Hear me out. We all saw the posts a few years back about male actors starving themselves and doing unhealthy practices to gain that muscle that we see in movies. Take Thor for example, Chris Hemsworth spent a lot of time barely eating and drinking a shit tons of water to achieve that look. I'm not saying Gale would be anywhere near that level but it's something to think about.

He's self conscious, trying to fit in, and in a relationship with a literal goddess. To me that all adds up to him probably having been quite fit, even if visible muscle wasn't the look he had, he still would've been very capable and in good shape.

Then he very suddenly has this thing in his chest that is eating him alive, his relationship has ended without his full knowledge, and he is quickly shunned by everyone around. That would take a huge toll on his body, and he probably would get pretty depressed. Personally I'm a lose my appetite kind of depressed so I see that being pretty reasonable with Gale. Maybe he makes big meals so he can try and feel normal but enjoying it just isn't the same when you're alone and in pain. And as much as Tara tries to help, it just isn't the same. To add to that, his stress levels are at an all time high, which can also account for sudden loss of body fat, giving him the look of an action movie lead, without any of the intentional effort.

This is all just my own head cannons / speculation.

Personally I adore Gale for how he is in the game, but I am not against anyone who has different opinions. This is not intending to cause issues or arguments so please refrain from doing so 🩷

So recently I've decided I really wanted to rewatch golden wind after reading the rest of the parts, and since this time I wanted to give more focus to the animation, I decided to watch it in dub. As a result, when I got to this part in ep3, I realised the dub had elected to change what exactly Bruno had said, stating the words above instead.

This struck me as a bit of a wierd change until I then realised how much this moment foreshadows Fugos 'betrayal' at San Giorgio Maggiore; by having the only one not betraying the boss being the one who suffers what Bruno predicted.

I feel like this foreshadowing is honestly amazing, and also hits home at how Fugo feels later on in phf when thinking back to his actions as the pier. I feel like he really does think of his lack of movement as a failure towards Bucciarati, one he has to atone for and I think it's really interesting.

On top of that, I find it really fun how accurate Brunos words are to the situation as a whole, and I find it quite ironic that the one who suffers them isn't even betraying the boss like Bruno is describing, but rather Bruno himself.

Overall, I really like how this singular line foreshadows a moment episodes later, and how I can bring up how Fugo's opinions and feelings on the event are reflected in Bucciarati's words.

But people sending well-meaning asks about the chars or otherwise is always welcome!

Hmm it’s hard to answer this question concisely because the reality is that their methods change depending on the situation and as they grow bolder and more experienced.

Once they’ve found a target (probably around once every few months) Moon does reconnaissance. Watching them at night, studying their schedules, looking for further evidence of their transgressions, testing locks and other methods of entry.

Earlier in their slasher careers, they would almost always go for a knock out and kidnap kinda approach. Then they would take the target (in the words of John Mulaney 😝 ) to a “secondary location” where Sun could be more assured nothing unplanned will occur, no unexpected visitors, while they carry out their devious deeds. Not to say things haven’t gone sideways and they’ve had to get creative in the moment.

The Slashers are lucky (for their purposes anyway) to live in an area with a lot of open farmland, rotted barns, woods, and decrepit industrial infrastructure nearby. Places that nobody cares about anymore or people haven’t stepped foot within in months or even years.

I haven’t done much description of the kinda of location they live in yet, but the arcade sits within a somewhat rundown small suburban town that lies at the outskirts of a larger city. Sun n Moon’s house is a bit further into the country, a few miles away.

Generally, they used to avoid doing much slashing in the target’s houses or places of work. Too much evidence to clean up, too many neighbors to overhear things. But they’ve gotten more ballsy the longer they’ve remained uncaught. They might play longer games of psychological warfare on targets, kidnap or even kill in riskier locations, dispose of evidence or the body in creative ways, even do something like release one into the woods if Moon’s feeling like a chase. All depends on the situation, like I said before.

the problem with trying to come up with absurd over the top examples to explain how diagnoses work or break down general antipsychiatry concepts to people is that no matter what crazy convoluted out-there mode of mental and physical violence you will try to come up with it's 100% guaranteed it's been done before. over and over again it's like "imagine if they classified x as a disorder" they have.
