Nyoka’s prey is the prefect made me do the spit take thing despite having nothing in my mouth. You could be joking but it just made me think of an idea I’ve briefly entertained.

I had a brief idea that my oc-put-in-prefect/mc’s/role being afraid of Nyoka. Just as a joke since most people thirst over him. Think it would be funny especially plus my character isn’t scared of anyone else.

Though decided lore-wise that’s a bit of a stretch plus I think I saw a post from you saying something along the lines of you not wanting to have interactions from other people’s ocs?

So I wasn’t going to send anything but that tag made me laugh and prompted a question.

How does Nyoka see and interact with Tia?

Also I might as well ask while I’m here, do you tag each of your ocs with their names? I haven’t done a proper dive into them so it would help to know if I could just click on their named tags to see all there is for each one.

Or would it be more effective to try looking through your entire blog? (I do worry of losing my place should some sort of loading issue happen if you have it as endless scrolling.)

As for the whole “no OC interaction” thing it’s not as strict as that. It’s mostly just… I don’t want people randomly throwing their OCs into my inbox directly or trying to start up some kind of pseudo-RP. Mainly because I don’t know what to do in those situations. It’s as simple as that 😭 I kinda just get blindsighted and wonder what I’m supposed to be doing. Least of all the fact I don’t know who any of these folk are, so it’s kind of awkward. Others might know me cuz they see art I make, but it doesn’t really extend the other way around. I think folk forget that sometimes.

I personally wouldn’t put someone in that position if we weren’t already close.

THAT SAID, I don’t care what people do with already public posts I’ve made or what they imagine on their own posts/blogs. They can add on or make their lil’ in-character comments on those if they felt inclined to. Draw something even and tag me, I’ll probably be down to see it! I get a kick out of that sort of thing and it feels a bit more appropriate 👍 public space begets public space.

But when it comes to trying to do so directly in my inbox I prefer people not do so. I’ll just not answer.

NEXT! I tag each character with their full names. I’m not always consistent about this, and “twst oc” is just a courtesy tag, but it’s not as useful in terms of finding anything up here. Though, it COULD lead you to their names, which is the better option.

Besides, I have no single all-encompassing “masterpost” that links to every bit of info out there. I don’t really have the patience for that. There are some benefits to leaving things open for interpretation. But if someone wanted to start anywhere, the intro post is as close as one will get. It has all their names up in there!

AND ERRRR... Tia kind of interacted with him in this story. Though, imo, it kind of serves more as a general introduction to Nyoka within the context of the universe rather than something Tia and Nyoka specific. She’s just in the MCs place because me and @/oddberryshortcake always use her in that role. There’s a couple Tia specific things in there but it doesn’t really matter overall since it wasn’t the point.

As for how he treats Tia specifically, it’s not a concept I’ve explored too much. If my brain can’t think of a semi-organic situation for them to cross paths then I kind of just! Don’t. 💀😭 But that also just extends to my issue of not freely talking about Tia much up here. I probably will think of something them specific eventually, but right now it’s just generalized. I shouldn’t keep snubbing Tia like that, but I did enough venting about that situation to last the whole week lol

At this point he just treats her as he would any standard Prefect/MC/Yu/Whoever, which is with no regard whatsoever since he’s never around to begin with. He wouldn’t not know who they are given the Prefect/Grim is infamous campus-wide apparently, but I don’t really have anything too specific lined up at the moment. He just considers both the Ramshackle duo as “prey.” Not literal (…i mean…) but more so in that pedantic way in a similar vein to how Leona refers to them as “herbivores.” It’s not dead literal, just kind of… figuratively denoting a position.

They’re prey. They’re mice. They’re not anything to him. He could swallow them whole. (figurative) So in a way, was I truly joking in my tags? 😳 oooooo

Hi hi! Mel's not my real name, she's just a character of mine, but you can call me that and I'll respond to it. I'm a writer with little to show for it. I like cats, creating fantasy characters, and collecting and cataloging isekai anime.

Mel

it's not actually short for melancholy, she's just mel. as a child, mel's family died protecting her and she was left orphaned in the street. with nothing left to live for, but unable to justify suicide after her family's sacrifice, mel picked up a blade and threw herself into adventuring, hoping to die excusably in an attempt to provide for herself. 18 years later, she finds herself the strongest swordsman alive, having survived encounters with every monster shes come across, though not without scars. she has no special skills or magic, but her ability to fight without fearing death and her natural combat prowess have served her frustratingly well. mel leads a solitary, untethered life, as expected of one who never expects to make it home. her most notable wound is her missing left hand, which was incinerated when she first fought a dragon at age 12. since dragonfire wounds never fully recover, she has to keep much of her arm bandaged to keep the smouldering flesh from spreading further.

Hikari Ni'naritai

hikari is my final fantasy 14 warrior of light character. a former conscript of the garlean military in othard, hikari changed her name and defected to eorzea in an attempt to escape her vicious past. if youre not familiar with japanese, 'hikari ni naritai' translates to 'i want to become light', and she's made this a personal creed. her story after defecting follows the events of the game pretty closely, though her meteoric rise to the status of Hero did untold damage to her mental health. her favorite things include fighting, sugary sweets, costuming, and fishing. she started adventuring as a mage, but shes too stupid to cast spells and is much more comfortable in a physical role. her primary driving force is her need to be a perfect, shining example of infallible heroism, and her secondary motivation is redeeming her enemies, because as the worst person to ever walk the earth, she has to believe that everyone can change so she can believe in her own change.

Aoi Furukane

28, [height to be updated, shes shorter tho], cis, bisexual polyamorous, au ra

aoi is hikari's normie friend! they met on the ship to vesper bay, separated when aoi continued to limsa, but met back up again later. aoi left a comfortable life in kugane to go where the wind takes her, which happened to be adventuring in eorzea. she was present with hikari through stormblood, but didnt take part in shadowbringers, and now serves in a more supportive role as hikari's problems become more and more world-threatening. she did go to the new world with her for dawntrail though, as a vacation that quickly went out of control. even when shes not involved though, aoi serves as hikari's confidant and closest friend. she was the first to learn about her past and often lends an ear to her depressed ramblings. aoi's a mage and a healer. her hobbies include scrapbooking, crochet, wearing leather jackets, and helping cid finalfantasy test fucked up motorcycles.

Euthalia "Lia" Pontikos

1024, 6', cis, pansexual aromantic, elf

Lia is a monument to my hubris. she is the epitome of what i believe a wizard is. lia is an elf who has exactly two hobbies: studying magic and having weird polymorph sex. she's always looking for new knowledge and experiences, but she has trouble forming connections with others and doesnt emote well. after pioneering and mastering magic as an adventurer, lia grew bored and developed a spell to travel to a different random universe, where she would be able to study the magic there from scratch. she's repeated this process numerous times, visiting a number of worlds and developing a minor interest in cataloguing curious similarities between worlds, until she landed on a world that didn't have magic. luckily, it was technologically advanced enough for her to get a job working on warp speed space travel, and she stole their prototype ship to escape that universe in a desperate gamble. she's now spent the last 500 or so years searching for a way to gain some kind of inborn magic to use in case of similar emergencies. she hasnt managed it yet.

Anestesia "Nest" Blackmoor

17, 5'7", girl-adjacent (she/they), demisexual lesbian, human

Nest is the daughter of two shitty nobles. Due to her poor behavior as a child, her parents sent her to a remote boarding school to learn proper decorum. this did not work, obviously. she often snuck out to play with a family of orcs she found while exploring the woods around the school, where she learned to fight. nest's primary hobby is getting into unnecessary fist fights, and their second hobby is protecting girls. occasionally these goals align but mostly she just likes fighting. surprisingly, nest is actually smart, and she picked up a baseline level of magic at school, which she's been working to incorporate with her swordplay. nest is still figuring out her sexuality but im sure if they find a girl to protect, that will sort itself out pretty quick.

Violet

violet has a few iterations, like an automaton created by a vampire horologist, but in her primary iteration she was a mid-tier modron in Mechanus in the service of the god of order Primus. modrons can be promoted from one tier to a higher tier when a spot needs filled, and by a similar process violet was 'promoted' to a human, as a sort of experiment to see if order could be restored to the material plane in this way. however, between the confusion of the human experience and her lack of clear orders (she was simply ordered to Increase Order), violet was a failure. she woke up in a dark bedroom, so she put everything in the room in alphabetical order and left through the window, where she walked due north until she luckily came to a city with a temple to primus in it. a worker there named Enba (created by @neurodecadence) took pity on her and allowed her to stay, where she was given a name and earned her keep organising the library every day. after a year, she felt the presence of her god leave her and realised she somehow misunderstood their directions. now she is searching for a new way to bring Order. violet has a curious interest in fashion, though she doesnt understand it at all. she's red-green colourblind. she reorganises her things every day, with different sorting methods. she gives off the air of something very obviously trying to imitate a human girl, but in a cute way rather than an unsettling way.

Valyrie

35, 6'3", trans woman, demisexual lesbian, half-elf

valyrie was orphaned when her hometown was burned down. she was rescued by a priestess of a temple and taken in, where she was raised as a holy assassin. she's a proper follower of the god they worship, but her duties to the church come second to her quest for vengeance against the person who destroyed her home and family. officially, her title is Priestess, and she introduces herself as such, but she prefers to wear a priest's outfit. she likes the pants. she keeps most of her body covered to hide her burn scars. valyrie's physique is most similar to a starved child stretched on a torture rack. she rarely smiles because her smile scares children. she's soft-spoken but firm. she could sneak a knife into a public bath.

Dr. Anarcha "Ann" Marion

30, 5'6", cis, lesbian, human

Ann Marion got her medical license revoked for performing experimental healing magic on a patient, resulting in his death. the patient was doomed anyway, and she only did it as a last resort, but it was determined that the pain experienced by the patient caused him to go into shock, accelerating his death and therefore placing the blame firmly on Dr. Marion's shoulders. despite healing magic being the domain of the divine, dr marion is more attempting to replicate the effects through intellectual arcane means. she rejects the gods for creating humanity to be so eminently fallible and murderable. her goal is to overcome death and evil through advanced medical technology. she has since completed her work on her healing spell (including an anesthetic preparation) and continues to experiment with more advanced healing. in its early stages, dr marion's healing spells would leave a visible herringbone-pattern scar, but she's perfected it now. she has several of those scars on left her arm from where she practiced on herself. she has a pet adder that she's modified to replace its venom with healing potion. her primary combat spells are for healing, but she does also work with necrotic spells, poisons, and diseases for damage.

Cassidy

32, 5'11", trans woman, lesbian, half-elf

cassidy comes from a very large family. her parents are a legendary 5-member adventuring-party-turned-polycule who've spawned a catastrophic number of exceptional children. each of her dozens of older siblings are independently famous or powerful in some way, including her identical twin brother. cassidy took a more mellow path in life and got married. unfortunately, her wife died in childbirth, and cassidy did not deal with it well. she left their child with her wife's parents and went off to try and find herself adventuring, even though she knows she'll never live up to her family's reputation and skills. she is so tired. currently partied up with Caroline.

Adela, Witch of the Veil

???, 7', cis, aromantic lesbian, erstwhile elf

Adela is the rotting corpse of an ancient evil reanimated by a god of peace and forced to serve. she hates this so so much. she once subjugated the world as the dreaded Witch of the Veil, leading terrible armies against the forces of good and laying waste to whole cities with a single wave of her staff or swing of her blade. now, adela is forced to do good deeds and protect others under penalty of death. she cannot even suggest violence. as such, she relishes any opportunity to kill afforded to her by her work as an adventurer, though such privileges must be granted by her church-assigned handler. her primary goal is to reclaim the relics of her ascension from the old days (her Veil, her Blade, and her Staff) so she can break the god's hold on her and resume her quest of world domination. critically, this will not work.

Elyria

23, 5'3", cis (derogatory), bisexual, human

Elyria is an annoying nightmare of a woman who shows up in a number of universes and has been noted by Lia as a 'curious and irritating multiversal semiconstant'. she's an accomplished and deadly assassin with a talent for arcane magic and a fanatical obsession with the holiest god she can find in whatever universe has spawned her. she dedicates all her kills to the god she worships and claims her arcane tricks are divine magic granted to her because she is a holy servant of the lord. she frequently uses a nun's habit as a disguise for her work, and she also uses it to indulge in her nun kink. sometimes these two goals intertwine. its her greatest joy to defile the divine with her earnest, misguided worship. whatever god she worships hates her so so much and wants her dead. shes dumb as hell and i love her.

étoile

???, 3', sexless girl, aroace, doll

étoile was created by a mad wizard in the throes of apotheostic euphoria as a tool through which she could maintain a connection to the material world as she ascended to godhood. She can't speak, but she's able to communicate concepts and feelings telepathically. She's not shy per se, but she takes a while to open up to others and doesn't readily offer information about herself. But once she's more comfortable, she's very open about what she wants and how she feels, in her own way. If she likes you, she'll let you write your name in her Cursed Book so she can write messages into your brain or maybe save your life. The wizard god IS potentially watching everything through her eyes, but it's impossible to know when, and étoile wouldn't have told you anyway.

Caroline Miller

23, 5'5", cis, we'll call her "bicurious", human

Caroline Miller is a normal girl with no problems. She grew up as the middle child (of 5) in a loving family who ran the mill in a midsized rural community. She's very friendly and quick to pick up on others' emotions. She decided to become an adventurer because of a local coming-of-age tradition wherein the mayor, an amateur diviner, foretold that she would make an excellent adventurer. She attended some local seminars on adventuring basics before moving to the city to intern with an established party and get some hands-on experience. With her natural charisma and familiarity with the family lute, she took on the mantle of Bard. At the end of her internship, she celebrated by getting drunk with her party and dying a streak of her hair pink. Currently partied up with Cassidy, but she has yet to meet her eccentric family.

Robin

???, 5'10", cis, lesbian, soul bound to a weapon

Robin is the closest thing I have to a universal game avatar. She began as an NPC in my DnD game, but I've created her in Monster Hunter and Bloodborne and will continue creating her in any action game i play that lets me. She was created initially as an excuse to have a scythe-wielding character in my game despite scythes being extremely unwieldy, so her general lore is that a powerful wizard bound her soul to a scythe, and then some other more kind wizard created a body she would be able to possess so she could pass as human. Unfortunately, since she needs to maintain contact with the body to possess it, she's had to learn to wield herself as an effective weapon. The exact weapon she's bound to changes from game to game, and her canon is more fluid than most of my other OCs to allow her to fit other settings. She's a generally carefree woman who loves adventure and fighting, and she doesn't tend to think too deeply about anything.

one day i'll name her... the angel once served a great creation god, but when that god was destroyed, all the angels in his service fell to the material realm. as a creature created for the purpose of worship, she shows extreme reverence towards all creation, especially living creatures, but shows similar reverence towards destruction, because the object of her worship was destroyed. desecration of life is an act of divine worship, and she finds particular beauty in the eyes of living things, which she preserves and collects. She often spends a great deal of time staring at her own eye in the mirror, though she's managed to hold back the urge to pluck it out so far.

"Over The City" info post!

Guess what has a name finally! So this post is an intro to not only the 'reader' character I've made for my fic I'm currently working on. But also just a quick look at what it will contain since there does need to be a content warning should you choose to read. This post won't spoil too much and I was inspired by @stellaspectral's post for her story "Sun Killer", which I love!

The plot revolves around the reader insert character Seraphina Daniels, a cisgender bisexual female, and it will touch on her family and backstory as the story goes. While I will not get into the details of what happened to her, here or in the fic during her last 2 years of High School, there will be a reference to past non-con/assault as well as the lose of a family member.

Now that I have my biggest content warning out of the way! Sera starts the story trying to gather as much info as she can on her, kinda but not really BF, that she is only dating to try and get him busted. How ever as she learns that he has crazy connections the plan starts to look nebulous. That is until she realizes there is a certain team of vigilantes also investigating him after they accidentally keep her from getting caught allowing her to get away with the data she stole. So Sera then makes it her mission to find the mutants that got her out of that sticky spot in order to get them the info she had been keeping in order to avoid giving it to the wrong person. [She knows who the Turtles are, kinda, due to the fact that her family moved to NYC shortly before The Krang attack. BAD TIMING!]

Now this will be Reader X Raph but it is gonna be a slow burn because I love a good slow burn! [Imagine two dum-dums who like each other, but they are dum-dums. You're Honor you don't understand these are my emotional support idiots.] Now these two aren't the only ships and as of right now I mostly have Capril and Leoichi and the side ships but I know I will include Warren and Hypno because I love Rys Darby so... Hypno my beloved! That being said there will be some explicit content in later chapters and I will be using the 'afreakingdork' method of marking the title of the chapter with an *.

Now I will be playing a game with the chapter titles since I listen to music for inspo like all the time and the chapter titles will be lyrics from the song that inspired it in the original language. In the author note before each chapter I will provide full lyric, if I cut it down which some are, and a translation if the title isn't in English. I guess I wanna see if anyone recognizes the songs I use as a little extra thing people can engage in.

Now I will get into a few more spoilers, mostly about Sera. So her family originally was her and her brother Kellan with their parents Tormond and Marion Daniels. [Marion's maiden name is Valentin] Her mother's side of the family is pretty fucking big and Valentin Holdings is a fucking giant company so Marion's family doesn't look to favorably on Tormond. Despite everything the 4 of them all got along fairly well when the kids were younger since they moved around alot before settling in NYC due to Tormond's business being established here. [The Daniels Corporation, a medical technology company] However, Sera's brother dies before the start of the story due to a super weird illness, that I am still working through the science on, which leads to the state of the family during the start of the story.

Sera does deal with being neurodivergent with her autism and ADHD which isn't helped by the fact that she has CPTSD and mostly self soothes because she never shared anything that happened to her with her parents. She only ever told her brother and he is gone now. [Kellan was 2 years older than her when he died]

Sera lives in a residential building in Manhattan that her dad slowly bought up in order to bring the best of the graduating medical students and engineers from all over the country by giving them housing. [He is technically building a safe building to keep his family safe since he is having a bad time with his oldest being sick.] Eventually he bought the whole building and everyone that lives and works there are technically his employees.

Now I do have a funny link between Sera and Kendra because they dated in the past and had a bad break up! Kendra will show up in the story pretty early on so I'm very very excited for that chapter(s). [I am slowly warming up to her the more I think about her chapter] Sera love taking photos and sketching but has a lot of art supplies due to her being rather introverted. [I have so much paint and other supplies it's nuts so...]

Well now that I have a perspective pinned down I can really start writing, since I'm like 35 chapters into my outline. I can't wait!

Okay so, the series you're going to be hearing me talk about the most is called What's Your Story. It's a long series with an undetermined amount of books in it.

What's Your Story is a shifting pov series that follows the main characters through their lives and how they get turned upside down, eventually showing how everyone's stories tie together. WYS has the endless cosmos as its setting, and its eye is fixed on the Organization, a group made up of the most powerful and the most evil, bent on bringing everything under their rule. This cosmic war is the backdrop for the dramatic lives of our little freedom fighters, most of which just want to survive with their worlds intact.

Kairna and Taren are twin siblings, and the top students of the prestigious Hornfel Academy, the best school on the planet. However, with a new and slightly strange Director recently being put in charge, the school's reputation may well be on the line. Kairna and Taren are orphans and the rarest subtype of elf, one that's often hunted down for their power. Without the protection of the school, things will go south for them fast. You follow them as they try to figure out what this new director's deal is and help him retain control of the school.

The Enchanted Forests

The human population is expanding, and they need space. The Enchanted Forests are sacred places that have never been touched by human hands. They are in the way of human expansion, and are going to be cut down. The last surviving sorceress and protector of the forests is not happy about this, but she's just one woman. Working title: Madness Heals All Wounds

This is a surrealist story that is both cozy and eerie. The main character is a lonely author who is firmly convinced that she is slowly going mad. The story follows her through her daily life, leaving the reader to decide whether or not these strange events really happened, or are just a product of the author's growing insanity. The story has elements of loss and dealing with grief, found family, and learning to live with oneself. This one is very personal and almost an autobiography of sorts. It'll be the last thing I do.

Mishaguji - Day 169

I can't believe this is how I'm starting one of these fucking uploads, but here goes... sex has been an incredibly important part of human existence in history. Let's all be mature here, people... and trust me, this is coming from someone on the asexual spectrum. Without having sex, babies wouldn't be made (at least for most people, I'm capable of mitosis), and our species would have come to a complete, sterile stop. As such, because intercourse is so important, it's not... uncommon to have deities that represent lust, arousal, and all that horny stuff, let alone deities of intercourse itself, in many mythologies. This was no different, of course, for the Suwa people of Ancient Japan. Also, once again, I have to thank @eirikrjs for his excellent writeup about Mishaguji- it's a fantastic source for information about this strange, phallic entity, and contains a girth of sources that were severely lacking. god dammit i almost made it through the intro without a sex joke

Mishaguji has several names, and many of them are used interchangeably from area to area from what I can tell. Interestingly, it appears to be female according to some sources, and she's described as the deity of Suwa Lake, worshipped by an ancient cult and taking the form of a white snake. The cult also worshipped 'Mother Earth,' rather than attaining heaven, and as they were a cult primarily located at the Suwa shrine, before they were overtaken by other forms of worship and cults of other beings. Several shrines to Mishaguji can be found throughout the Suwa region, such as the Ontō Mishaguji Sōsha, and many shrines were spread out throughout much of Japan as a whole, in fact, called Mishaguji-sha. At least, according to a map from a seemingly defunct mapping website of Japan, there were several Mishaguji shrines spread through a lot of Japan. Unfortunately, as is likely obvious at this point, the online sources for Mishaguji are incredibly scarce, so I can't back up everything with concrete evidence past what I've already linked above.

The cults of Mishaguji celebrated Mishaguji as a god of fertility, safe birth, and as a guardian of children, and the being could basically inhabit any object they gave up to be inhabited by it. I'm admittedly kinda confused here, but it seems that Mishaguji wasn't one single being but rather a collective of spirits that were each deities that inhabited these beings. Yeah, I just linked the homepage to the museum that says this, because again, sources are scarce. The objects that the Mishaguji would typically inhabit were often things like grinding slabs, stone mortars, or... uh... well...

Things like this, except sometimes far smaller. Yeah, I'm sure you get the picture. Mishaguji also have connections to fellow gods, are often conflated with Takeminakata, and were paired with another deity- Sosou- which were their male counterparts- and they were also seemingly at the center of a war with Takeminakata that they ultimately lost, leading to Takeminakata becoming the primary figure of worship, paralleling the real-world takeover of the Suwa cults by the Yamato imperial people. Lastly, they were often involved in a rather disgusting ritual involving young boys that I won't be getting into here because it personally makes me sick to even think about, but if you can stomach it, just read the blog post.

As for the design in SMT, while I've blocked off the dick head like a prick, it works fantastically- Mishaguji, as a goddess of fertility, was often associated with sex and baby-making due to that, and her appearance takes many cues from other sources revolving around her as well- namely, the white snake association, as well as the fact she's literally wrapped around a stone pillar that shares many similarities to the rocky... massage machines that were often used to embody them. This is, of course, only the tip; there's so much more to this being that I'm not reading off here, so I'd recommend you do your research if you can find anything more.

Hey, I haven't been active on Tumblr since the dawn of the millennium, but I've been having a resurgence of my Alice in Borderland hyperfixation. I've been in this weird ass fixation on concepts for the games themselves and the strategies employed to counter the obstacles of the games. The Queen will declare a decree which may either benefit or harm the player which usually have some prevalence to the theme of emotional and social manipulation and leads to casualties. In the case of a tie, all the participants involved in the tie will present themselves to the Queen. The players may attempt to revolt against the Queen and clear the game once per round if someone declares it and the game will conclude once an unanimous vote is casted resulting in the queen's death. The monitor will also show how many voted against ending the game.

Game Clear: Unanimously agree to revolt against the Queen Game Over: Queen eliminate all the participants

Rules:

-Weapons are prohibited

-Violence or Attempts of Violence is strongly prohibited

-Directly Murdering or Maiming any of the participants is prohibited

-Participants must be present in the Ballroom at all times

-Participants must vote for another Participants

-Participants must Oblige to the Queen's Decree

Hidden Rules and Solution: Although the Queen of Hearts is 𝟣𝟢𝟢% truthful during the explaination of the rules, throughout the game, the Queen of Heart is not obligated to tell the truth during the game (except with decrees though she may use uncanny wording) and may say anything as a way to manipulate the game. The Hidden variable which changes the game dynamics is that the unanimous vote to revolt the Queen must also include her too. After discovering this, the participants need to convince the Queen of Hearts herself to vote with them.

Potential Examples of Decrees and Queen's Lies:

Convincing the players that there is a traitor amongst them

Convincing them there is a round limit

Convincing them about the aftermath of beating the Face Cards

Convincing them about the votes and who voted what

Convincing them about new added rules

Intro To Dark Olympus by Katee Robert

Welcome to my little review series of Katee Robert' Dark Olympus series! This is in lead up to the latest instalment of the series, Cruel Seduction. I also just felt like taking a trip down the Greek mythology retellings lane.

A general summary of the series: It's set in a modern day city called Olympus with mortals versions of the Greek myth characters. Their power comes in the form of being rich, famous and powerful. It's fairly political in nature and each sector of the city is ruled by The Thirteen - the main thirteen Olympians we're familiar with in the original mythology.

I think what struck me about this series is that it was a hot romance take on myths I loved growing up so much. Katee also has pretty fresh interpretations of the characters and the stories themselves while still keeping true to the beats of the original myths.

So far there are 5 books in the series (including the prequel!) I have enjoyed the first three books in the series, can't wait to reread two of them for these reviews and start on the last two leading up to Cruel Seduction.

Introduction to Caxy Creations and Relan

Hello everyone, I am Caxy Creations. You can call me Davina. My fursona is a caxy (half-cat, half-fox. Specifically, half Russian Blue domestic cat and half Arctic Fox).

I am an author, an artist, a streamer, and more. I love to dabble in all forms of creation. To get some base details out of the way...

I'm 25 years old, she/her, in a committed and very happy poly relationship, and I'm as casual a person as you'll ever meet.

I have a series of stories called "Tylvinian Tales", with the main story being titled "Tylvinian Tales: The Wolf's Den". All of my stories take place on a planet called Relan, a world of anthropomorphic animals and mythological creatures, with science and magic in equal amounts.

I wanted to make an intro to Relan, to try and hit some of the highlights. I will elaborate on everything listed below in future posts, but as this is simply an introduction I have decided to focus more on revealing the basics rather than elaborating on all of their little details.

For ease of reading, and for organization, I'm breaking this down into seven "chapters", most of which link to posts that go into greater detail on that topic. Click on a chapter title to be taken to the dedicated post, and do bear in mind they are introductory posts: there are intricate and complex underlying circumstances within each country that cannot be explained in generalized posts detailing their basic culture and concept.

Relanian geography is divided into five categories.

Sen and Kanor originated as a single country, and were divided by warlords vying for control. As such, their cultures are nearly identical, with very few differences.

There are very few religions on Relan, though there are some distinct theological beliefs, as listed below.

Gaian is the most widespread of the three, and focuses on the Relanian Gods after which the months of the year are named: Gaius, Malor, Fina, Escor, Jan, and Dinora.

On Relan, divinity is not a hotly debated topic, but rather a fact of reality known to be true. The evidence exists in the storms that cover the world a few times a year, the records of sentience itself, and the magic abilities that every living thing exhibit.

Time Formats

The 12-hour clock most of us are used to is the most commonly used format on Relan as well, though "military time" exists as well. However, that is where the similarities taper out.

There are six months in a year, and one year is 360 days. Leap years do not exist. The months of the year are named after the Gaian pantheon, and are, in order from first to last, Gaius, Fina, Escor, Jan, Malor, and Dinora.

Months are categorized as such due to the unique nature of the Gods that govern the planet. Over time, some grow weaker while others grow stronger. These times were observed, and used as the basis for "one month" of time passing. Gaius is at his strongest at the beginning of the year, while the other gods are far weaker, resulting in Gaius being the namesake of the first "month", and when his power wanes and Fina's begins to grow, it is the start of the second "month", and so on. Rather than the planet's years being measured in solar orbits, it is measured by the cycle of power, with one year being complete when Dinora's power wanes and Gaius' power grows again.

Years are measured by how many it has been since the Gods made first contact, with first contact being recorded as the year "zero". There is no A.D, no B.C, simply counting up from first contact as the years go by.

Our current year of 2023 is analogous, scientifically and culturally, to the year 4023 on Relan, with Relan's first recorded contact with the gods being 4,023 years prior. Time is managed this way due to the complete lack of sentient life on the planet prior to the Gods making first contact.

Dates, as such, are written as "[Day Number] of [God Name], [Years since first contact]". For example, my character Ryder Trayson was born on the following date: 30th of Gaius, 3995. This makes him 25 during the time of the main story "Wolf's Den", which begins on the 24th of Jan, 4020.

Scientific Advancements

Relanian science is a global effort, with "military science" being privatized by country. The scientists of the world work without cultural borders, operating together for the betterment of the world.

They focus on necessity over desire, and as a result, some things have gotten far more attention than others. The Worldwide Enclave of Benevolent Scientists (or "WEBS") lists the following as the three areas of greatest importance to the world:

Medical - Medical science is the greatest concern, and the largest focus. Disease and injury are intolerable, and must be treated as the greatest threats to life. As such, medical science is the largest focus and has the greatest advancement.

Natural - Natural science is the second greatest. Understanding the world they are on is of great importance, to better protect the planet and its environment for a sustainable existence on Relan.

Technological - Technological science is third. It is any science related to technological convenience. Entertainment, comfort, and the like are considered "low" priority, but of great importance, as WEBS states "Living without Survival is impossible, but Survival without Living is meaningless". As such, Relanian "creature comforts" are plenty, but ever-so-slightly behind our own world in advancement. However, industrial advancements are slightly ahead, as some corporations have privatized sects of scientists to develop easier, cheaper methods of production.

A few examples of their advancements are:

Medical - They have developed a cure for the common cold, and have treatments for cancer that are known to work a majority of the time. There are chemical agents that promote healing of injury that can heal cuts and scrapes in a day or less, and medical advances that allow for a wide variety of organ transplants with synthetic organs.

Natural - They have explored roughly 87% of the oceans, with Eikirians (ocean-dwellers) assisting land-dwelling divers in harder-to-navigate areas. The remaining sections of the ocean left unexplored are due to technological limitations and deep-water pressure. There are also extensive records of most land-dwelling and water-dwelling species of both Sentients and Ferals. Their understanding and preservation of environments and climates are also a couple of decades ahead of our own.

Technological - Varies between more advanced and less advanced depending on the field. Industrial technology is very advanced, with construction companies able to build skyscrapers several hundred feet high in less than a week, while factories have triple, or quadruple depending on the company, the output an Earth factory might have. However, their entertainment tech is fairly behind, with VR being a brand new concept as of 4020, and with color television being as recent as 3990. This is due to necessary fields taking priority over unnecessary fields of research.

There's much more to Relanian science than this, but that will have to wait for future posts!

Magic

Magic does exist on Relan, and it's where the creatures gain their sentience. Magic was introduced into the world when the Gods made first contact, pouring their collective magic into the ancient Ferals, granting them sentience and thought, reason and logic.

While magic was initially a powerful tool, capable of being wielded by skilled mages and practitioners, it has since dwindled down to a weak, but ever-present force. In the modern day, magic exists in very few forms, but very widespread forms.

Today, magic exists in the following:

Blessings. Abilities and powers as unique as the individual bearing them.

Mythicals. Sentient beings not analogous with any Feral beast. They are the Heavusi, the Wendigo, the Griffons, Dragons, etc. All mythological creatures of Earth exist as Mythicals on Relan, and are the longest-lived species on the planet, as well as the ones with the greatest connection to magic.

Storms. Relanian weather is largely predictable and plain, with very very little in the way of true storms. However, as the Gods power wanes and grows, it forms disturbances in the magic of the world. When these powers clash and their charge grows too great, the entire planet feels it. Great storms erupt, with powerful lightning bolts covering the globe for several hours, striking the surface several thousand times in the process. True storms, though they only happen a couple of times a year, are the largest concentration of magic in the modern world.

Relan is home to a wide and ever-growing variety of creature. Life evolves in all forms, and most species, real and fictional, exist on the planet. As such there is no limit to the type of being that can exist on the world, though there are differences in Relanian life and their off-world counterparts!

hi!! i come with a question for the wip title tag!! i'm curious about the "life without b" chapter from "steph's crew" - could you say something more about it?

Sure!

"Life without B" is the second chapter of Steph's Crew that I wrote, and I started writing this story about a year ago lol. So it's pretty old, and it could use some editing. But I'm rather fond of it for a couple of reasons...

When I first wrote Steph's Crew, I intended it to only focus on Stephanie's perspective (as she's the main character). It was supposed to be her journal. But I changed my mind after a while because it was hard to really flesh out the other characters in her friend group and go into their personal lives in depth if I only focused on Stephanie's perspective. So now, each chapter is in a different character's POV. And what's really fun about all the chapter titles is that you can kind of guess which character the chapter is going to focus on based on the title... like based on their individual senses of humour, or the vibes they give off, or a thing that they commonly say. This chapter that you chose for example is an Elise chapter - and that is shown by the way it mentions a character named "B" ("B" is Bret lol. That's Elise's occasional nickname for him!) and it directly mirrors a previous Elise chapter title (Life With B).

I've posted this old series of dialogue plans that I like to write for my characters sometimes (I'm still going with it, since I haven't posted all of them yet... pretty sure I have about 10 left of these). And the one for this chapter is one of the earliest ones I've posted. It was when I was doing this series that I realised that all of my characters are actually super interesting and they all deserve more attention and focus than what they currently get. So this chapter was kind of a turning point for this story - it was the moment that I started to write chapters from the perspectives of the other members of the crew. Starting with Elise!

I'll leave a link to the dialogue plan so you can see it for yourself, but I'll also give a brief summary of what happens in the chapter - basically, Bret is kind of a troubled child lol. He's always getting in trouble at school, he's struggling with a lot of things, and at this point, his friends are beginning to notice that, and they want to do something about it. I mean, it's hard NOT to notice that something's going on with him - he's been suspended, and he hasn't been going to school lol. But yeah. They try to come up with a plan to do something to show their friend that they care about him, and that he's not alone. And it's a pretty terrible plan (leads to arguments/disagreements within the group)... but they do it. It leads to them all getting detention. Yeah.

I mainly focused on Elise's POV for this chapter because she's the closest to Bret (she's been a friend of his since childhood, and she also has a crush on him... which is a whole other thing lol. Them two have a romantic subplot in the story), and also she's kind of the odd one out in the sense that she is the only one with common sense haha. Like, she disagrees with Stephanie's terrible plan even though everyone else in the group is willing to go along with it. It showcases Elise's main personality of being introverted and soft-spoken, but not being a pushover... like, she's willing to stand up for her beliefs and push back against ideas she doesn't agree with, even if she stands alone.
