In Both Ways at Once, how long have Danny & Constantine known each other? What sort of things have they worked on together? Has Danny worked with anyone else in Justice League Dark?

Danny has worked with other JLD members! He's not a full time member at all, but he's been called into be a consultant more than once for the JLD and be extension the JL. He is still a little shit, but unlike Salt in the Bones, he's not known to be as prickly. He has strong opinions, sure, and is unorthodox, but he gets the job done.

He's worked with John... I don't know, 3 or 4 years or so? John has a respect for Danny and what he does and they've got a friendly enough relationship, but they aren't super close. John will call on Danny in a pinch, though.

Danny mostly gets called in for ghost adjacent things. He's known as an exceptionally good Psycochomp/Speaker of the death. But he's also useful for possession or cursed items that used death to be created or result in death. He's got pretty good immunity to them too, of course.

He gets called in for that fic because there's be a separation of the spirit, basically, through a curse. So there's the hope that Danny can have some answers to it! They certainly don't expect him to get so possessive of Red Hood (or Jason).

fic rec! DP x DC Demon twins AU

Summary: Eight year old Danyal Al Ghul, Son of the Bat and Twin Heir of the Demon's Head, was supposed to be executed. Instead he was secretly sent away and survived. And if Danyal could get out, then surely their Father could get Damian out and keep him safe.

Comments: I usually only rec completed fics, but you'll want to read the first chapter of this which is an amazing one-shot.

Danny, Bruce, and Damain each make hard decisions. Danny tells Bruce about Damian, and then disappears after his rescue to give Damian the best chance to be free of the League. Bruce realizes who Danny is, but decides to focus his effort on helping Damian instead of finding a boy with a cold trail. And Damian, despite knowing Danny is alive, decides to not tell Bruce about him only to give Tim advice years later to not ignore any evidence he has Bruce might be alive.

There's angst all around, born from the desire to help where you can. But I promise, there's a happy ending here.

Wip ask game: I gotta ask about Lucky Ones or Lucky Ones Final Mix. Is that a rewrite? I'm so intrigued.

Yep, you nailed it! It’s my re-edit/additional work for Lucky Ones.

The name for the file is a joke on the Kingdom Hearts series. They often release slightly remastered versions of the KH games with the subtitle “Final Mix.” They have tightened gameplay, bonus content, and sometimes entirely additional features—so it felt appropriate.

I have over 5 chapters already on paper for the story. I have a full scene breakdown. I know exactly where everything is going, up to and including the ending.

The problem is that my actual prose skill set has changed so drastically that I can’t bring myself to wrap it up. 😭 I literally stopped drafting right before the scene I was the most excited to write! (It was an Inko scene, for the record. Love her. 💖)

Going to tuck my snippet under a Read More, and it is a bit long, with a little bit of a blanket blood/scary situation TW.

(I’m not sure how to properly note the specifics—apologies. The situation is a little weird. Just know there’s nonviolent gore, loss of control, and one very freaked out child who isn’t actually in any danger from the adult that’s scaring him.)

“Mr. Toshinori, you’re scaring me.”

The man exhaled, the noise the only indication of where he stood in the dark. “I’m scared too, kid. But you’re going to be alright.”

“I don’t understand.”

The room was still thick with the raw, bitter smell, and Izuku’s stomach twisted in panic as the rail on the side of his bed rattled.

“No, you don’t. But we’re running out of time. I have a way out, but only if I pass it to you now.”

A way out? Muscles seizing, Izuku tried to struggle back upright. The deep ache spiked as he moved. He clenched his teeth against it, pushing back, and—

“Green. Kid. Stop.”

The knot in Izuku’s gut pulled tight. “Mr. Toshinori— ”

“Will you trust me?”

Izuku swallowed, settled back down and let the pain in his limbs ease. He steadied himself, fighting to master the shaky panic and rising pulse. A way out.

An escape.

All it raised was questions. If Mr. Toshinori had a secret weapon, why had it not come into play sooner? Was there something about the surveillance? A drawback or caveat? The uncertainty of it nagged, like an itch at the back of Izuku’s mind.

But Mr. Toshinori was kind, and trust— trust was a choice.

“Yes.”

A beat of silence passed, and then the darkness flickered. Motion, not light, faster than he could track. Something slick and warm clamped down over his face.

Izuku jerked, but as his jaws parted to shout, fingers dug in under his chin.

Metal. There was metal in his mouth, metal, and salt, and sour. The smell of it burned in his nose, pooled against his teeth, dripped down to the back of his throat. Breathe— he couldn’t breathe—

He twitched again, choking as the liquid tried to slip into his lungs.


“It’s going to be alright. I’m sorry, kid. I’m so sorry, but I promise you’re okay.”



Soft. The voice was soft, the way it’d be for a caged animal, a child after a nightmare.

He couldn’t breathe. Lungs pulled for air, but there was no air, only the raw scent on his tongue, the liquid catching at the back of his mouth.

“Easy. Easy, it’s okay.”

Sparks popped at the corners of Izuku’s vision, hazy and bright against the black.

And then he weight was gone. The pressure at his jaw, the hand covering his mouth, gone. He coughed, spluttered, spitting out the acrid tang of copper.

He breathed.

The steel-edged taste was still there, bitter and overwhelming, and some of it still settled in his throat, but he breathed.

A hand brushed over his hair as he twitched and spasmed, starburst haze glowing in his periphery.

“You’re so brave, kid. Be brave for just a little longer. Be brave—and live.”

F - MLBxDC crossover

Fondness and nostalgia warred with the ever present grief in his chest. He missed them. He missed his best friends like a flower missed the sun.  “What if you could have them back?” whispered a poisonous voice in his mind. Tim couldn’t find it in him to even flinch. The same question had driven him to the abandoned CADMUS facility in the first place. “I can give you the power to bring them back.” Yeah right. As if that wouldn’t come at a cost. “All you have to do is bring me the Miraculous of Ladybug and Chat Noir.” The Persian heroes? Tim didn’t know much about them, but he was a Bat. How hard could it be? He had already sunk so far as to rob museums, what would it hurt?

A quick glance over to the dashboard had Jason laughing. “You don’t keep your fancy supercar full of gas?” Jason laughed, the hilarity fighting with his annoyance.  “Shut the hell up, Jason,” Tim snapped. His hands tightened on the wheel, making his knuckles turn white. “I drove from Smallville to Gotham and made it just in time for patrol and I didn’t see this coming.” “What, you abducting me?” “It’s not abduction if you came willingly.” Tim grit his teeth as they pulled into the next gas station. 

I - A Wednesday in Gotham (Spirit Halloween slowburn)

“I’m not letting you put yourself in danger by helping me!” Bruce snaps as he grabs Danny’s wrist. “And I’m not letting you be a self-sacrificing idiot by not accepting help!” He returned, bright blue eyes staring into gunmetal grey.  “I don’t need your help!” “Too bad!”

R - Alice, Alice (Tim Drake is the Young Wizard from Wizard101)

Rain stung my skin, startling me out of my thoughts. A shadow passed by the single lit window of the tower. “Whoooo?” Gamma questioned, looking at Professor Ambrose.  “How odd!” He exclaimed, starting towards the tower. “Come along, young wizard! Let us investigate the matter.” He wanted me to go with him?! Was he insane?! This whole situation was crazy! And now an old man wanted me to follow him into a spooky wizard tower in the middle of a storm. It was ridiculous, I could laugh! Except for the fact I still couldn’t make noise.  This was one screwed up dream. It had to be a dream, right?

Y - Nightwing!Tim

“You’ve done it once, you can do it again. Bruce may not be here, but you’re not alone Dick.” If only [Tim] could say the same for himself.  Dick stood from his seat, coming around to sit next to Tim on the counter top. Tim couldn’t help but lean against his older brother, taking solace in his body heat. One moment stretched into two, this silence more like a comfortable blanket than an oppressive weight. It felt like the nights Nightwing and Robin would spend trainsurfing instead of working cases.  Dick took a deep breath, tilting his head to look at the ceiling. “If I’m going to do this, I’m going to need you to stay by my side.”  “Of course.” Tim would follow Dick to the ends of the earth, if he only asked. “Batman needs his Robin.”  “Yeah. He does,” Dick agreed, “But I think you could be much more than Robin.”
