riddle : your fiancé- well, ex fiancé ever since you disappeared from the alter, leaving only your mothers pendant behind. he changed after that. creating rules upon rules to make sure ever pirate is dead. every pirate will burn in requiem. especially that leona kingscholar. so new rules were put in place, banning and condemning all pirates to death- by yours truly of course.

trey : riddles right hand. he’s been there since the very beginning, staying quiet and helpful. but the day you disappeared- everything changed. riddle, himself, the state. he’s tired of staying in the shadows- being the middle man, being the second thought. of following the rules to a tee.

carter : the informant. the navigator. he knows, and see everything. and just because he’s apart of the royal fleet doesn’t mean he’s loyal to one side… loyalty is no longer the realms currency… but currency, is. one of the first people who makes you doubt if you truly know everything.

ace : your childhood friend who joined the royal fleet, claiming all those years ago that he’s protect you. that he’s pay you back for the kindness that you and your father showed him when he drifted past your ship. a medallion of death draped across his neck. but like in your childhood, ace is known to be sneaky.. so when he tells you to follow him for a short cut on your wedding day… you think nothing of it… but of course, one must never trust a pirate.

deuce : he too, joined the royal navy to protect you, to serve you. pay back that night. that oh so stupid night he and his ‘friends’ decided they had enough of the governer telling them what to do how to live. taking it into their own hands… though- the kindness you showed him, the forgiveness for drawing innocent blood- for scarring you so horribly, that no other man would have you- he’ll pay back his debt. even malleus draconia won’t stop him from keeping you safe.

leona : disgrace of the afterglow savanna. second prince turn pirate who is notorious for his laid v k behavior. barely batting an eye when he slits throats. heart beat normal when he punishes his crew. not a hair out of place when he pulled you from land, dragged out into his ship claiming you have something of his- and he doesn’t die well with thieves. nor to first born ‘royalty’,

ruggie : like the rest of savanaclaw’s crew, he’s more animal than human. ears scratched, scars littering his body. greed far out weighing his kindness as he’s the definition of pirate. you give him an inch and he’ll take a mile. not helping you without a scheme up his sleeve, not giving genuine compliments unless there’s something more to them. make sure you keep an eye on his fingers, cause sooner or later- you’ll finally see his signature smirk as he promises you the world… expect he had his fingers crossed the entire time

jack : the pirate you helped a few nights before your wedding. he was injured severely. on the brink of azul ashengrotto’s door as he still held you at gun point. he towered over you, hair disarrayed q with fresh scratches and scars littering parts of his body. but just because you gave him a warm bed, and bath- doesn’t mean he owes you anything. after all- he’s a pirate. and pirates will only ever take.

azul : kind of like davy jones. he makes deals with dying / dead sailors. he has some of his octopus features. like black markings that encase his chest, torso, arms and waist. some on his face too. purple slashes on his stomach. and a signature shell necklace he sleeps with. though it’s a wonder why he keeps staring at you, eyebrows scrunched as he fiddles with it.

jade : azul’s right hand man. he has some eel features to him as he’s been apart of the monstro for god knows how long with his twin brother. bargained to be more dangerous than his brother with his honey laced words and gentle caresses- he’s more of a sea monster than the kraken.

floyd : considered the right hand’s right hand. loose canon- vv sadistic. he also has eel like features, with some parts of his body tinting teal, darker markings on his arms and hips. you know you’re getting closer to the monstro when there’s a trail of corpses, each more mangled than the last as a pair of twinkling eyes meet yours from the sea…

scarabia

kalim al asim : from a long line of successful pirates. ones who’ve made deals and have right relationships with all sorts of kindgoms. known for colorful trading. looks can be deserving with kalim- so be careful, cause all the riches and smiles in the world can’t hide the dangerous glint in his eyes..

jamil : kalim’s right hand man. it being no secret that he wants to take charge of the oasis. as he’s usually the one giving the orders.. if it weren’t for the cod of mutinity- he would’ve been captain a long time ago. just don’t fall for his sweet words and hypnotizing promises.. as there’s a reason he’s bound to the sea the streets

vil : refuses to call himself a pirate. as he’s more of a trader of… exotic goods. he has eyes- everywhere. there isn’t something he doesn’t know, isn’t something he isn’t in control of- so when he hears of the governs lost child and how a certain feline pirate has a new peculiar crew mate- he can’t help but lust for he power. time to pay dear old crewel a visit. after all, you’re short a fiancé. and it’s been a while since he saw dear ol’ crewel

rook - if azul ashengrotto was a name that kept you up at night. than rook huntsman was one no one would dare whisper. some claiming that even a mumble of his name would have you dead by morning. nothing is known about him. all traces of his past erased as anyone who goes snooping is quickly found in the gallows by vil’s personal orders. one of the three men you never want to cross paths with, as you would surely end up in davy jones locker… you, on the other hand - noble so far from home yet you still shine with elegance, still keep your manners as you stay on their ship. magnific! he swears you to be a siren from hell, tempting him from vil. but not the matter.. after all- once a pirate- always a pirate.

epel : this isn’t the life he want. he wanted to be a pirate. he wanted to sail the seas on adventures, rough it out and live freely. but of course, why have anything go to plan? in a some pompous uniform sailing vil directly. of course he had his run in with pirates, sparring a few he surely regrets as he comes face to face with a gun, glinting teeth and a devilish grin. he never had what it took to be a pirate. he wasn’t manly enough to be one…. yet.

idia : a cruel, cruel man. though he is none for this stand-offish behavior. he is someone you try to get close to. not many know of him. as he is known to sail, attack, burn villages to the ground who haven’t paid him back- in the night. where no one is around. where no one can see. where others are defenseless as he takes, and takes, and takes- from a world that showed him nothing but cruelness. stripping him of his fortune, his brother-... so after a little birdie told him about you, sailing the sea, stealing each captain’s blot… he can’t help but to grin for the first time in a long, long time.

ortho : will do anything to make his brother happy. though he is not as old, or strong- he is smart. cruelfully so as a curse corrupts his soul. dead by day and alive by night.. he doesn’t have much time left. so he must do everything in his power to ensure his brothers future- his happiness. after all, he is the longest, cruelest captain the ignihyde has had the honor of serving in a very long, long time.

malleus : some say he crawled from the depths of hell.. others say he was born from the malice and greed of pirates..known as one of the strongest pirate lords to ever sail the seas. from a long line of pirates, though he is the first to guide his misdeeds as crown prince of the throne kingdom. claiming himself to be apart of his grandmothers private fleet. though as anyone knows, that is a lie. as the souls of the damned accompany him and his chosen crew wherever they sail. though your meeting was by accident- fate as his grandmother calls it. he will do what’s in his draconia nature- and take. horns darker than the abyss, claws sharper than a sharks tooth- eyes greener than emeralds as black, reptilian marks shows exactly where from hell he came from.

lilia : a seasoned sailor. a heartless sailor. his soon to be betrothed claimed by the tempest in the very sea the ship was named after. the tip of his finger nearly saving theirs as they were swallowed by the sea..there are rumors that he’s cursed to sail forever, that his beloved cursed his soul out of heart break. yet he showed no signs of it. bleeding when stabbed, skin as pale as snow. ruby eyes still gleaming in the summers sun. his duty coming firsthand before anything. and as the right hand man of malleus, he is sure to keep him and his sons safe if you were to be seen as… troublesome.

sebek : if it weren’t for lilia, he would be second i. command. following the theme of his crew mates, green scales can be found on his defined cheekbones, waist and arms. fangs and pointy ears he takes pride in as he will cut down anyone in malleus’ way to fame and glory. no woman, child, or thaumark can severe this man’s loyalty as he lives in the old era of the pirates. where anyone who draw speaks, steps or looks out of line will be cut down. and just because you’re the serpent that caught his dear malleus’ eyes- doesn’t mean your safe from his blade, as you learned.

silver : an orphan. constantly reminded of his dirty background by sebek. being the only human on bored has taught him many things. like careful who you trust, and to ironically, sleep with one eye open. as being lilia’s son means nothing to the other crew mates. and all those years of training, years of scrutiny, of amnesia have hardened silvers heart, his mind as you can only pray to whatever god out there that he isn’t like the rest. that he will spare your life and take you home, hand in hand back to your father.

oh my god this took forever. i really wanna do this but i’m not sure if this is one of those phases i’ll have. where i make 3 long ass scenarios and then dip. but i’ll either make a dried out of it. or an event. lmk which you guys like better 🙈🙈

The Little Warrior AU Masterpost

This AU is spinning beyond all initial expectations so lets get organized, this is a master post for the story and all related content to The Little Warrior AU. (This is an AU based off Monkie Kid)

Overview: First part of this AU acts as a childhood backstory for The Six Eared Macaque, being found and raised as an adoptive son by human warrior Zhuāng Jié, until traumatic events end up leaving the little monkey alone on his own path. The second part is centred around what comes after for both Macaque and his long lost father - whose love for his son survived even after his death, and his journey to find a way back leads him to partner with a gibbon spirit named Chángbìyuán, who has a mission of their own.

This AU is centred around my Monkie Kid OCs and certain canon characters (mainly Macaque, through the lens of this angsty sappy AU) and isn’t a planned out story by any means, it's more of less collection of art/writing posts that together make a narrative that will evolve depending on new ideas hehe.

Death is a friend. It is his companion, shadows his every step, every breath he takes in the immortality he did not want. Death comforts him, gives a purpose in every life he takes away. Death is his realm, it is what he wields, and it is the power that courses through his veins. Once, he was close with his brothers, still loves them but hates them, for all that they’ve done, all that they’re doing. Now, he can barely look at them during council meetings; the only time he is required to make an appearance above ground. Now, he rarely sees light beyond the fire that illuminates his marble corridors.

He doesn’t want to. He wants to stay here, wants to stay kneeling at the River Styx, its garish glow throwing his pale complexion in sharp relief. He stays because he remembers, and it is his memories that provide the cruelest of torment. It is not the pits of Tartarus he fears, but the heart that beats within. The curse of the undying.

And it is your death that haunts him.

He marries another god. One with doe eyes and long, ebony-coloured hair. Soft lips and golden heart. Jin tells him it’s time to move on, offers her up on a silver platter, and when Yoongi looks over, she smiles shyly at him, blushing at his intense gaze. He must admit he is inquisitive, finding it highly unlikely for the goddess of spring to be willingly caged in shadows, though the feeling remains oddly void of anything but sheer curiosity.

She is enamoured with him. He can see this. He knows this.

He tries. He really does. He tries to give her his heart, give her his devotion, but he is blank. He has nothing to offer her but empty spaces where their fingers should touch, half-smiles with no meaning. Still, she wakes next to him despite his suggestion they remain in separate rooms. She sits on a throne carved for another, dutifully overseeing the dead as he does.

He orders it to be burned to the ground, but finds his shades work too slow for his liking. They dispel on his command, and seconds later his scythe clatters loudly as his knees crack against the granite flooring.

She eats the pomegranate seeds. To stay with him. Choosing death, above all else.

“Why?” He whirls around, fury in every hackle raised, daggers piercing her skin with every word spat between gritted teeth.

She’s defiant, stands her ground unflinchingly even as he swells in size, the darkness growing in his clenched palms restless as they swirl around his wrist.

“Why is it,” she whispers, “That moons pass and yet you are determined to grieve for this one soul? A mortal woman.”

“Don’t. Talk. About. Her,” he snarls. His power is barely leashed. Wild. Violent. Bursting at its seams.

“She’s gone. She’s gone, and she’s not coming back,” she says, even as goosebumps raise and fear sparks through her. “But I’m not. I’m still here. Alive. Right in front of you.”

He says nothing, irises dilating and lips pulled back into a scowl.

“Do you hear me?” She presses. “She’s gone.”

With an inhuman howl, he snaps, lunging at her to pin her against the column.

And he kisses her. All tongue and teeth, blood and death. So messy.

He gives her fire, gives her his anger and anguish, drowns his pain and misery between creamy skin and parted legs.

“You deserve so much better than this. Than me,” he whispers when the heat dissipates and all that is left are the ashes of yesterday’s regrets.

She watches him sleep, the black silk sheets held over bare chest, observing the dark bags under those cat-shaped eyes, the sunken cheeks and the gaunt jaw line, he is ethereal, a dreamy kind of surrealism that lies heavy in his bones.

“I know,” she says. “But all I want is you.” She reminds him of her, and that doubles his anguish, a sorrow that settles in his stomach like lead, poisons his every touch and taste until all he can smell and feel when he is with her is someone else’s kisses.

“I’ll never love you.” He’s staring out the window, listening the screams of the sinned, and she touches his back, wraps her arms around him, rests her head against his shoulder blades.

His hands are cold as they curl around hers.

“Deathbringer.”

He hardly spares them a glance as he twirls the star-forged weapon in his hand.

“You mourn.” Their voices are shallow hisses, snake bites in the dark that threatens to consume him.

“Death is inevitable,” he says faintly. “The great equalizer, and I am merely its puppet. I do naught but execute its will.”

“It is for the greater good. Humanity will thrive with her sacrifice. It is time the gods should learn not to play with fate. The love of one mortal will fail to plunge the world into chaos.”

“No,” he agrees, digging the blade against his open palm. “But losing her might.”

The Ivory Lady is not that openly emotional with other people for her own reasons. She comes off as cold and reserved towards everyone, Erlang included, but when Wukong was taking in under Erlang's wing, she changed a little.

Wukong was loud and could get out all the emotions Hua Yuan couldn't.

However sometimes Wukong would go through several emotions and not all of them would be positive - he was always scared he made a mistake in joining Erlang and leaving behind his brotherhood. He's always scared he's not a good brother to Erlang or Hua Yuan. It's moments like that where she manages to voice her feelings and it helped ease Wukong a lot.

She still means those words.

Wonder what changed, though.

The lower area of the heavenly grounds is surprisingly cold, a light mist covering the area despite the bright glow of gold and white seeping through.

There’s already rumors spreading through the Guard of undisciplined trainees running amok through the stables and freeloading in the gardens — though, it’s certain that the sole protagonist of said rumors is the one guffawing wickedly at the bottom of the stairs, orange fur and golden eyes easily standing out even in the dark uniform the yaoguai wears. A hard sniff is heard as the final step is done and the two men stare at each other, unblinking.

SWK: Yang Jian, you would not believe what the horses just told me about Laozi SWK: It’s wickedly cool SWK: Like, “oh my god i never would’ve guessed”, kind of cool ELS: Hm. SWK: Seriously! SWK: You should definitely not go and check the stables, by the way, I think someone left one of the stalls open and one of the horses got out in the middle of the epic quest of: “Where’s the Bimawen?” ELS: You don’t say. SWK: I do say! Overly saying it, actually, I’m saying it right now SWK: Point is, the dude’s crafting some sort of “immortality pill” and keeping it all to himself in his lab and I’m thinking of making him extra sweet tarts tomorrow to try and get him to share some SWK: Okay, well, Imma try to get Jiejie to teach me to bake tarts and then I can sweeten him up SWK: All that skilled planning will get me closer to expanding my immortal lifespan by ten so I can gloat to those guards about who’s actually the strongest in training SWK: Hah! There’s a pause in the very-important-must-read-dialogue to remind the reader than if you’re unaware of the motions, Erlang Shen, the Jade Emperor’s nephew and renown God of Justice, is regretting his decision in coming down to try and negotiate with his brother about leaving behind trickery for the sake of his migraine-induced rage bursts. The Ivory Lady says it’s bad for his age.

SWK: Can I be honest? ELS: I don’t think you were born or designed to be honest. But by all means, go right ahead. SWK: I’m thinking about the clouds that form around here ELS: … ELS: Clouds? SWK: ‘Cause you have all the nice neat lil’ shapes back on the mortal realm that are fun to crash into! They fill up with water vapor and turn into shapes and you can try and guess what kind of shape they turn into like a very normal kind of game a fifty-year-old demon like me would play ELS: Clearly. SWK: But the clouds here never change! Not once! They don’t even disappear — is it like a time thing? That’s the exact same cloud I saw yesterday when I was chasing down Xiaotian ELS: Why were you chasing my dog? SWK: And that is the same cloud I saw when I broke into the Emperor’s closet and put on one of his fancy gowns to play ‘Emperor For the Day’ until someone noticed and ended up getting kicked out for ‘ruining the Jade Emperor’s regalia’ ELS: That was you?  SWK: Not the point ELS: Stop chasing Xiaotian. ELS: Come on, Shi Hou. You’re the smartest trainee I have— SWK: Ever had ELS: You trained with me for like, what? A couple of weeks? It’s incredible how quickly you picked up on everything. You should be using that brain of yours for something other than cheap pranks, brother. ELS: You won’t be taken seriously if you don’t act serious. SWK: Says the gege who helped me prank your sworn brothers SWK: Didn’t know chickens could be so violent ELS: Of course they’re violent. The smaller they are the more violence is stored inside them. ELS: You’d know that if you learned about the— SWK: Yeah, I got it SWK: But can you blame me? Fifteen days of being here after finding out Heaven was lying to me? I could’ve gone back to Azure and told them about how stupid the whole ‘Taking Back Heaven’ plan is to try something else ELS: And you believe Azure would listen? SWK: Of course he would! SWK: You listen to me ELS: Because we’re brothers. SWK: He said he was my brother. How’s that any different? ELS: I, personally, don’t have any delusions of grandeur when it comes to wanting to overthrow the most powerful royal line out there. ELS: But I am willing to teach you how to control that magic of yours and learn to— SWK: Blast things! ELS: Heal, little brother. It will come in handy when you’re out in the battlefield all alone. You may be all powerful but your body’s still growing. Changing. You may even encounter stronger yaoguai on your adventures when you finally leave my temple. SWK: Really? You think someone is capable of hurting me? ELS: Apart from me? Yes. SWK: Psh, sure. You beat me, what? Three times? I still won the other fights. ELS: Yes, and I kept training to counter you. We’re tied.  ELS: Now, go wash up. We’re traveling East tomorrow to meet with an old friend of mine. You’d do best to learn proper decorum before meeting him. SWK: If he’s anything like your right-hand then I’ll probably be able to manage ELS: Wukong… SWK: Yeah, yeah SWK: Bah, you worry too much Erlang. I’ll be right with you first thing in the morning ELS: I’ll believe you.  ELS: Don’t be late!

There’s a bright flash of light, the same orange and yellows that seep from the sunset. It grows brighter and brighter and gray eyes stare up at the bird that circles around the god before diving towards the temple. There’s a few seconds before Erlang hears a loud cackle of laughter, amused and delighted, and he can’t help the small smile that spreads on his face.

He sighs and stares up at the sky, watching it change into night.

"Heavy is the toll that comes from being raised by justice only to break free from his shackles and become a chaotic being alongside your other half."

the premise: What if Erlang took in SWK when he became the Bimawen instead of letting him escape and cause a Havoc in Heaven?

short explanation: Azure Lion tells Wukong that he should go to Heaven and, "Show them what a true king is worth!" only for Wukong to be stopped by Erlang from leaving the stables when he realizes Wukong is upset about being mocked and put into such a low status via tricking him. So Erlang takes him in under his wing and the plot of JTTW does continue but the events that lead up to Wukong being trapped under the mountain are different and QXT is sucked into this story by force.

Long Explanation: BUCKLE UP IT'S GOING UNDER THE READ MORE WIDGET! (WARNING! IT HAS SEASON 4 SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE ENTIRE SEASON YET!)

"Hold on, I'll try to give it another go."

Wukong is raised on FFM by the four stalwart generals Ma, Ba, Beng and Liu (not at all related to Liu'er Mihou/Macaque) and they're the ones who introduce SWK to the stories of the Gods such as Erlang, Nu Wa, the Jade Emperor and several other gods and myths from the Pantheon. Wukong finds them interesting but sees no reason to try and make any moves to invade Heaven or disturb them, seeking only his own immortality and that of his fellow monkies for he believes they should dictate when their time is up rather than succumbing to death just because it was "pre-written by destiny".

This leads to SWK finding his first Master and gaining his name, the events of erasing himself from the book and gaining his staff from Ao Guang, too. (Except, for a brief second as he waits for the dragon kings to finish assembling his weapons, he sees a tiny dragon boy hiding behind one of the stables and he plays with him, helping him adjust his sleeves so he doesn't trip over himself.)

Azure Lion on the other hand, is a general for the Jade Emperor in charge of securing the mortal realm and making sure to carry out his orders as told by the Jade Emperor which then leads to him learning of Sun Wukong and asks to form a brotherhood with him and his companions. (Around this time, Wukong has not yet introduced Macaque to anyone else as the latter is getting adjusted to joining SWK's mountain troop. He does not like the idea of Azure asking SWK to be his "beacon" of hope, though.)

When he asks Wukong to go to Heaven when he's invited by the Jade Emperor himself and, "Show them what a true king is worth," much to the Monkey's delight.

However.

Erlang Shen is present around this time instead of being away with his sworn brothers at his own temple, and he's there to greet the monkey king when he arrives. The two shake hands for a brief second and Erlang yanks his hand away when he realizes how much power Wukong has and wonders why he's being taken to the stables instead of being handed off to the Ivory Lady or himself to train.

The events go as follow:

Wukong meets the Ivory Lady and her War Chief while he's cleaning the stables and surprises her by engaging in conversation with her, stumping her with his own words of knowledge from when he studied under Master Bodhi.

Ivory Lady and Erlang converse about why Wukong might have accepted the invitation to come to Heaven if he knew he'd be given such a low status position.

They learn of Azure Lion being in Wukong's brotherhood from the monkey himself and connect the pieces together.

Ivory Lady suggests to Erlang that he take Wukong under his wing for, "Your plans to overthrow the throne may have to wait until you can get him on your side."

When Wukong learns of his status being the most lowly ranked one he tries to create havoc — only for Erlang to intercept and say, "I'll train you." and Wukong is unsure of this until Erlang says, "I can make you a legend. An actual legend, Sun Wukong. Not a stable boy or a false king."

When Azure Lion learns of this, he decides to send Macaque to convince Wukong to return to the brotherhood... only for Erlang to intercept that as well.

The actual Havoc In Heaven is much more traumatizing than it was in the show, with Wukong being betrayed not once but twice by everyone around him (even indirectly by Macaque).

Canon evens with the LMK timeline still happen with several changes added to make sure they coincide with the change of SWK's upbringing as the Great Sage Equal to Heaven.

(Hint, hint: he almost tore the Jade Emperor's head off and was only subdued when Erlang caught his wrist and said, "Brother, you're better than this," which allowed for Wukong to be captured :))

Something about the way that Erlang sees Wukong as small.

A tiny creature with golden eyes that leans forward to rest its cheek against Erlang’s chest.

And,

Erlang could only stare when tiny, furry hands reached up and wiped away as many tears as possible, small sniffles and choked sobs escaping the infant’s mouth.

He always describes him as small. Or tiny. And then we’re hit with this:

His tudi has grown. He’s up to Erlang’s shoulder by now.

And all I can think about is the moment where Wukong, small and tiny, runs to hug Erlang. When he jumps, Erlang catches him, and he spins and spins and when he sets Wukong down the yaoguai is taller than him. His hair is longer, his eyes are full, he’s much taller than when Erlang met him.

When your little brother ends up outgrowing you.

is there ever a moment in requiem au where Erlang gets startled by just how young Wukong is. if he was any different he would be considered a child, not a weapon

Yes; please take in mind that despite the fact Wukong is immortal and lived a good 50 or so years — he was still young. Incredibly so compared to most other celestials and he presented himself as such. Even in LMK he is younger than he seems to be in present time. Erlang was sent down to kill him when he was an infant — and considering how time works in Heaven that was a little over 5 days ago for him.

He meets Wukong again and asks how old he is and Wukong answers earnestly. He hasn’t even lived a full life yet, he hasn’t grown at all. He’s still learning. It’s like looking down at a younger version of himself and Erlang still makes the mistake of treating Wukong as a weapon (something something continuing the cycle of abuse)

How did the samadhi fire ritual go in the new au?

"And whilst I watch in silence, you're starting forest fires. You start them just to feel the heat. And whilst I keep my quiet, you're running with the tigers. You're running just to run from me."

So you know how in the original version of LMK we see SWK goofing around and that's what causes Ao Lie to get hit with the fourth ring? yea?

prior to the ritual, Sun Wukong tried to capture Red Son on his own when DBK assessed the situation. DBK and Iron Fan were explaining how Red Son's fire was uncontrollable and Wukong grew more and more alert while Tripitaka and the other pilgrims asked what they could do. And right as they were told to device a plan, Wukong just, out of nowhere, asked where Red Son was.

"Down east—" and he bolted over to the boy.

And, no, Sun Wukong did not fight Red Son. He didn't even raise a hand towards him. He did the next worst thing: he tried to capture Red Son bare handed.

SWK's fur was already burnt from the boiler when he was punished by Heaven and all his glamours burnt off when he hugged Red Son, attempting to calm him down, and he almost managed to do that before letting go because he couldn't take the heat anymore.

He was found by Nezha laying face down near a lake with tear marks on his face when he was helped up, the entire area around said lake burnt and torn apart (he struggled to try and get the fire off of him which resulted in a lot of trashing).

He only agreed to the ritual because he was promised no one else would get hurt (DBK had to take a walk when he realized what SWK did; think your brother being so upset he gets angry at you for doing something stupid because of how upsetting it is).

But because Sun Wukong was so tired/exhausted from the previous act, he ended up almost getting hit with the fire again when Ao Lie stepped in.

[Requiem au] In the modern day, what are some of the things that got changed?

WELL THE MAIN POINTS ARE THIS:

no ships other than shadowpeach and freenoodles (for reasons that will be explained later)

Long Xiaojiao and Qi Xiaotian are the hero and warrior respectively

Sun Wukong is now feared alongside being seen as a hero by some of the public (anti-hero, people are very much scared of him)

Macaque and Wukong are very much willing to let the other die in the beginning of the AU

DBK was never imprisoned and thus he never attacked the city — Red Son takes his place in this AU

PIF and DBK divorce (but eventually get back together)

Lady Bone Demon doesn't keep her host for Season 3

Nezha is a regular at Pigsy's Noodles (glamoured)

Macaque's Debut episode is a lot more tense than the original one (Wukong doesn't even talk to him, just asks Xiaotian if he's alright)

and the samadhi fire plot is changed an itty bitty bit because we get the gang going to find Ao Lie at some point :D
