Professor Layton Speculation Hour

Theory time!

Now, based on the trailer and the wallpapers, here are my theories for the next game

Taking place after Unwound Future : IRL, The United States are referred to as "the new world" and at the end of the main six timeline, Luke was headed for the US, so it's possible that the new world of steam is actually a bustling city somewhere in the United States. That would have the game taking place before Layton Bros and Layton Mystery Journey/Lady Layton

Taking place after Katrielle's story: If you take a look at Luke in the wallpaper released, you'll notice that his hair is lighter in color. At the end of the Katrielle anime (SPOILERS!!!) Luke is a married man, and because the Prof was frozen he looks the same as he did in earlier installments. Therefore, there's a possibility that the "Luke" in the picture is not our Luke, but maybe his son...A Luke Jr. if you will.

New timeline/soft reboot: It's been quite some time since the main six games, the two Katrielle projects, and the mobile games have released. It's possible that this Prof and Luke are from an alternate timeline, hence the "New World" and new attire. In an attempt to start a new line of Switch games, we might see a combination of new and old mechanics and characters.

Pitching another one of my TWP Crackpot Theories

Soooo

We know Cassie doesn’t give Clace a break

So I’m calling it now that Janus does kidnap Clary

(And to raise the stakes she’s pregnant too)

Janus takes Clary back to Thule

For some reason Jace isn’t around when this happens (he might be away with Malec that has smth to do with The Black Book of the Dead)

But Clary stayed back to run the NY institute and with her parabatai Simon and Izzy

So Janus kidnaps Clary and brings her back to Thule (maybe before Clary has been able to tell Jace that she is pregnant)

But he doesn’t bring Ash with him (Ash wouldn’t want to go back to Thule anyway)

Dru hears what has happened through Luke at the Academy (prob bc she was spying not bc she was told) and she immediately thinks of Ash knowing he one of the only ones who can open a portal to Thule. So she takes it upon herself to hunt down Ash…

Meanwhile Ty is currently hunting down Kit (he doesn’t know he’s looking for Kit but he’s looking to protect the First Heir from intel the scholomance received that the Seelie Queen and/or the Cohort is after him)

When Ty finally reunites with Kit is when they hear that Dru is missing (most likely it would be when they’re about to have a first kiss but then interrupted)

So obviously they have to go after Dru

And this inevitably ends up with the whole gang headed to Thule (after several adventures in faerie I’m sure: included but not limited to multiple close calls with Kit, seeing Kieran in Unseelie, getting weird warnings from the phouka, and prophetic dreams about the rising of the prince’s of hell)

They do eventually get to Clary and Janus in Thule (Thule Livvy and Ty meeting — devastating) — luckily not much time has past in Thule (Clary is still pregnant)

Kit and Ash together are able unblock Faerie in Thule (we find Thule Mark, Kit, Dru, Simon as well djsbrdjrjj) — imagine Kit has to fight his Thuleself lmao

They return to their world with the Thule Gang in tow (they can’t fight the final battle without Livvy, Raphael, etc— Cam and Thule Livvy maybe 🥹🥹)

Ash + Clary fight together — aunt & nephew bonding 🥹

While they have been gone a lot of shit has gone down!

my very tinfoil-hat, very unscientific (also very untrue) theory that i've been marinating on for a while that was only proven further correct with today's trades is that fitzy is like lowkey trying to...punish? jack for publicly speaking up for ruff and leading to the prolongation of that nightmare (obviously not actually jack's fault to be clear i'm not insane) and/or break him down to build him back up?? idk. by trading all of his buddies (obviously he-who-shall-not-be-named gone already, bahler traded, marino gone, holtzy gone, you see what I mean?) all the while he knows that at the end of the day a) jack is enough of a nhl-insider-knowledgeable/hockey realist and b) that he'll always ultimately be FINE as long as he has lukey (not in question obviously) and also nico (also not in question obviously) and at least in an on-ice hockey sense bratter (also not gonna happen)

obviously this is certifiably insane and not actually true and that's not how nhl front offices operate etc. BUT i have not been able to get it out of my head for days so now i'm burdening you with it too (VERY sorry) realistically fitz is just kind of bonkers (plausible) OR he's playing 4d chess somehow and ~we'll see. we'll ALL see~ in like three years or whatever

I will, however, use this opportunity to yap about what I think is going down. Hope you don't mind!

In the 2022-2023 season, we hired Bruno because I think there was basically an unspoken thing that if Lindy doesn't do something with this lineup, Bruno will be his successor. And then, we exceeded every expectation ever, won a playoff round, and put ourselves on the map. Plus, Lindy was even nominated for a Jack Adams. He bought himself job security.

I do think Jack liked Lindy a lot because Jack was given the freedom to do whatever and learn at his own pace under Lindy.

I have my own crackpot theories about Lindy and hating Europeans, and am happy to share that if anyone wants, but he's gone, so it doesn't really matter.

Plus, there's some mixed information out there about Fitz and Lindy's relationship. From his presser, it seems like he was forced to fire Lindy because they needed a scapegoat. From some other stuff, it seems like Fitz wanted Lindy gone much sooner but was stopped by ownership because they wanted Lindy to transition into a front office role and didn't want to sour the relationship. Nothing to do with Jack at all. Jack does not have Sidney Crosby levels of power yet.

I don't think that Jack is being punished for anything. Frankly, I think the kid is probably wrongly punishing himself plenty for everything that went down last season. I don't think Fitz has any ill will towards Jack at all mostly because he built an entire team around Jack (and Nico).

I don't think Fitz is punishing anyone, but I do think he is traumatized by last season (as are we all). We have a bajillion goalies now. We only drafted folks taller than like 6'3. Our new guys coming in are also tall boys, grittier guys. He's stabilizing the blue line which was also our other biggest issue last season.

Kevin Bahl - we needed to give up something for the absolute steal we're getting with Markstrom. Calgary is retaining. Fitz tried to package Holtzy in that, but Calgary valued Kevin Bahl more. Fitz also wants to stabilize the blue line and bring in veteran presence, and you're not going to move Luke or Nemo, so unfortunately, Bahler was the victim

John Marino - this trade is still a little baffling to me. I genuinely thought if Johnny was being traded we'd get a player that was ready to play now, but they traded him mainly for the pick, and we got the best goalie in this years draft. This is probably just setting us up for the future to have a good goalie pipeline. The other reason I've read for the Johnny trade is to make room for Pesce who is rumored to be ours in roughly ten hours. This has to do mainly with how we're going to be defending in front of Markstrom. Pesce allegedly is better suited to that defense system than Johnny is.

Alexander Holtz - I've had time to think about this, and this is very personally devastating to me and I do blame the Devils for how they handled Holtzy, but I'm coming to terms with it. They fucked his development last season by having him sit in the press box for half a season instead of sending him down. And this past season, they never seemed to give him a clear shot. Plus, then Fitz and Lindy made it their mission to shit on him at every waking moment. Unfortunately, Holtzy doesn't really have a spot on our roster. You have to think about it through line identities. Its tough because Lindy did so much shuffling, but Holtzy's hockey doesn't fit into the lines we're trying to build here other than on Jack's line, but I don't think he has the speed to keep up with Jack consistently. I hope he fucking kills it. I hate that its Vegas, but I hope he finally gets a real shot.

Akira Schmid - Akira and his agent wanted out and wanted to test the waters to see if they could get the bag and all power to him for that. Plus, I think it was fairly obvious that he was fourth in the line of goalie succession and maybe even fifth, and so he wants to play, and so he made a decision.

I think tomorrow's free agency chaos will make the vision a lot clearer.

I don't blindly trust Fitz tho, of course.

Sorry for shutting down your theorizing, anon! I just don't think there's anything to it. Plus, I'd argue Jack's crew was Ty, the superbuddies, and Merce, and then they added Johnny. I'd say Holtzy is probably closer to Merce (the Disney trip plus the fact that they go shopping together) and like Timo/Bratter/Nico (per the interview Holtzy gave). I'd also say Johnny was a lot closer to Nate too. And then Bahler had ties to Jack from childhood, but Bahler really kept to himself. (But we don't really know anything about their lives outside of the crumbs we get so anything is possible!)

I have a crackpot Mandalorian theory I need to share

Alright, I know this is like, Pepe Silvia-level thinking, but I have a theory.

So in this episode, Din gets mysteriously dragged into the water and finds himself on the bottom, right next to a mythosaur. I believe the reason he was dragged down was because the mythosaurs are Force-sensitive and they wanted to bless him as the True King of Mandalore that Ushers Mandalore into a New Age.

YEAH I KNOW THAT'S CRAZY but here's the thing: this has a basis in canon. In the short story, "The Baptist" from A Certain Point of View, the dianoga that drags Luke into the garbage water is Force-sensitive and sensed Luke's Force-sensitivity. She had a vision he would go on to Be Great, the GOAT, and so she baptized him as a blessing. Since they love Doing a Parallel between Din and Luke a lot, this was my immediate thought.

Even if this turns out to be wrong, I'm going to sit in this theory because I get to decide what's best for my blorbos. It's basic blorbology.

Professor Layton Anime Theory - Luke’s Possible Betrayal (LMDA Spoilers!)

hi guys its luke today i’m making a callout post on luke 

 this is probably the most cursed theory i will ever create and i promise this is pure speculation, i don’t WANT this to happen i don’t think this SHOULD happen i know the layton community will systematically explode if it does so please don’t unfollow me i am a sensitive boy 

summary of the theory: this theory analyzes the possibly of luke betraying layton in the relic stone mystery similarily to emmy based on several aspects of luke’s two appearances in the anime and what we know about the future of the anime so far.

warning: swearing, implications that luke is a good boy gone bad

alright, lets go lesbians

me and the bros were talking on the layton community discord, and i mentioned something that has been bothering me about luke, a theory if you will. @officialchampionred summed up my thoughts on my own theory pretty well after i told them about it

i originally was just going to not do anything with my speculation, but i figured since the one i made about luke being kat’s father was so well received, even if i ended up being incorrect, i would take another shot at a theory that i think has a good chance of being realized somewhere down the line

ok so the theory summary sounds like a load of baloney when you read it for the first time, right? well hear me out, because i have several points to bring up that may rattle ur bones. without further ado, here are the points:

1. Luke’s Design and its Similarity to the Relic Stone Thugs In Episode 10

im going to start with one point that several people have caught on with all ready, but i don’t think anybody has ever really tried to connect the dots here. so you know luke’s new design, right? the fedora, the jacket, very cute

EXCEPT

here is an image comparison of luke’s design and the outfits of the men, we’ll call them the fedora fellas, we see that attack by don paolo’s orders in the museum 

now i know what you’re thinking, “that there is just coincidence” or, “THEY MUST ALL HAVE TO WEAR FEDORAS ON MONDAYS” but i assure you, the similarities here are not accidental. there’s just no way. the design team wouldn’t love the same horrible design enough to just use it on multiple characters just cause they want to. there is just no way this has no relevance. 

while some accessories and colors may be different on luke and the men, the general design is still in place, especially with the hat being an exact copy every time. a uniform protocol is being followed here. luke is most likely not wearing choice clothes. this is a uniform, and the men are also following this uniform.

it’s also worth mentioning that even don paolo has a SORT OF similar design change to the color schemes we see in the henchmen and luke

its not entirely relevant, but the red color kind of fits the bill, and i don’t think they would also change paolo’s design for absolutely no reason.

@muzzable also made an amazing color comparison for this theory between luke’s uniform and the fedora fellas, so full credit there! 

this image analyzes the color differences between luke’s outfit and the ones worn by those men. note that obviously its not exact, and its probably not supposed to be.

that’s because this is the shit akihiro doesn’t want you to pay much attention to while watching, and its WORKING. 

this is so in the event of a betrayal it will smack you upside the jaw (my jaws been broken before, it hurts)

now another counterpoint could be, “maybe its relevant but it doesnt automatically mean that luke works with the fedora fellas or don paolo” and you’d be fucking spot on you funky little luke fanatic, but i got a lot more up my sleeve to tell you.

at the end of this theory, we’re going to move to discuss luke’s motives, but for now, we’re going to stick with the essential points. now we’re going to move onto point 2, which isn’t entirely as direct as point 1, but still holds relevance if you squint

2. Luke’s Nervous/Suspicious Behaviour in Episode 10 & ESPECIALLY 20

watch out, this point is the biggest one analysis wise

you wanna know something i noticed about episode 10 and 20?

luke looks and acts noticeably nervous in almost every scene he’s appeared in

for one example, did anybody else notice the repetitive anime sweat drop going on with no character BUT luke in episode 20, ESPECIALLY the closer they got to the relic stone chamber?

he’s sweating in a LOT of scenes, and on top if that, if you pay attention to his behaviour a lot of it is him just looking generally... worried. a lot of people discredit the anime sweat drop as a cosmetic trope, but a lot of animators actually use it to convey genuine fear or anxiety that offers hints to the direction of the plot.

it’s like he knows something we don’t about the relic stones, like he has something to hide, and he gets worse the further they go, like the closer they get to the relic stones the more nervous luke gets that he’ll have to betray the professor IN THAT MOMENT

and hershel isn’t worried or nervous at all because he TRUSTS luke and i know you could be like, “oh but luke, hes just a nervous boy” and thats all fair and good, we can safely say that luke COULD be a naturally anxious character, but these little details and luke’s general behaviour are VERY noticeable once you pay attention to them for the first time, and also the concept of him being a nervous character was never in place when he was a boy with no malicious motives that we’re speculating now

the pattern of looking luke generally troubled is also shown in episode 10, though perhaps not as noticeable as it is in 20.

while they’re discussing the relic stones and luke is explaning the situation to marina (who im pretty sure is not aware of luke’s outside motive), he gets a little nervous and hesitant when they start talking about why he was doing it. layton then finishes his sentence for him, saying it was for katrielle, indirectly saving luke from having to scramble for an explanation.  he just looks OFF.

anyway, level-5 loves using body language in their animations. in cutscenes, the characters often perform actions that define their thinking and their motive. for example, layton puts his hand on his chin and walks around, oh boy he’s going to expose someone. descole slams his hands on the piano keys in eternal diva, oh boy he’s pissed. layton points at someone, oh boy they’re the culprit. 

was luke ever THIS nervous and hesitant in the games, when he was a boy? no, not passively nervous. he was only really nervous in the face of danger. as a boy, he was actually pretty confrontational and confident.

so why act so strange here? what changed? 

luke looks pretty nervous in this anime, oh boy i wonder if there’s something bothering him that nobody knows about

i feel like now would be a good time to issue a disclaimer that also supports my points, this theory is NOT meant to imply, “oh luke’s a heartless bastard he hates layton and wants the relic stones for himself”

i have very little faith in the idea that, if luke is doing this, he would be doing it for himself, or because he wants to.

i’m confident in this theory, but im not confident that luke’s motives are just plain evil, because while his character can change and realistically SHOULD CHANGE, i don’t think he has it in him to just become evil. i think someone’s either forcing his hand (maybe similarly to clark’s situation), or giving him something he can’t refuse in return for layton. 

but more on that later.

now we move onto point 3!

3. Key Hint Passively Given by Picarats 

u guys know picarats, right? the guy that provides us with the streams, my bro, an awesome guy...

a guy that is in direct kahoots with level 5 and knows exactly how everything in the anime going to work out

beelieve it or not, picarats is actually a member of the discord server that i run (https://discord.gg/ZYxmPP) and he posts there occasionally. he’s pretty vocal with our community so it’s really not that much of a shocker that he would give us hints from time to time. we’re true bros. i love u my guy

but that’s not the point, the poINT, THE JUICY PART, the REASON why im bringing picarats up... is because he’s provided us with a crucial hint to support my theory, mainly during the episode 20 stream 

THE KEY HINT THAT PICARATS HAS GAVE US WAS...

LMDA’s storyline, in its current form and in its future presumably, is a  reflection of the events of Azran Legacy.

now this is something picarats DID say, though not entirely in verbatim, during the episode 20 stream. i promise u with every ounce of gay power in my body that he said that the anime’s storyline reflects azran legacy’s.

unfortunately, i do NOT have a screenshot because i was too busy having a psychiatric breakdown in the middle of the episode. if anyone took a screenshot of him saying that, pls send it to me, i will credit and love you forever. <3

that single hint during that stream is EXTREMELY crucial and most likely the most important one, it was one of the things that spurred my thinking about this theory, so essentially

BUT you may ask, lUKE, what is so important about the fact that the anime is supposed to mirror azran legacy?? whats the significance of that?? 

well.. u mere mortal... im about to give you a series of events from both azran legacy and LMDA

azran legacy was an adventure to discover the secrets of the azran, right?

right.

emmy, his loya resourceful assistant and friend of whomst he TRUSTS, is with him up until they are moments away from unlocking the secrets, right?

right.

then, this devastating shit happens.

emmy shows remorse for betraying layton but tells him she was doing it for someone else and wouldn’t have done it otherwise.

everyone dies.

are you following my thought process so far?

now lets go to LMDA’s current canon storyline

layton reunites with luke, who is acting nervous constantly and wears an outfit similar to the people who want the relic stones for malicious intent 

layton, fully trusting luke, leave katrielle to go on an adventure to find the relic stones, a series of artifacts that are linked to the azran.

they go on the adventure and then become moments away from unlocking the secrets of the relic stones

LAYTON GOES MISSING.

thanks picarats, that single sentence you said in a stream has turned me into a conspiracy theorist

are we broken yet? are we all nice and broken yet?? good. now we get to talk about LUKE’S POSSIBLE MOTIVES.

Luke’s Possible Motives for Betraying Layton

now this is yet another juicy part of the theory, and probably where the biggest counterargument might come into play, which is:

“bUt LUkE WoUld NeV ER dO tHAT”

bUT i will give you my theories on luke’s possible motives for concocting a scheme that wild, but before i do, i would like to give u a memorable quote from clove dive that basically sums up the point im about to make:

we, as a fandom, are collectively forgetting that it is unrealistic to think luke has barely changed in terms of personality and motive

do i blame us? no. after all, we’ve known luke as an innocent boy for about 11 years now. 

hino knows this. hino knows how good we think luke is. that’s why i said that his attempt to make us ignore the hints is WORKING.

and like i said, i can’t blame any of us at all for wanting to believe that luke hasn’t changed, but its simply unrealistic. 

as much as we don’t like to believe it, luke and layton have basically barely if not at all interacted for several years up until this point

luke is not a boy. something about luke has changed. 

and this theory attempts to connect just what that change might be.

like i said before, i wholeheartedly disbelieve that in the event this theory is accurate, luke has ‘turned evil’ just like we all believe emmy didn’t turn evil.

they were forced to do it for something that they deeply cared about.

they were forced to betray their friend for something bigger.

and i think that’s a damn exhilarating plot device.

Conclusion 

now you might have guessed that in this point in the theory i’ve gone from being serious into shitposting as my thought process usually does, and also i’ve been working on this since 3 AM, so im gonna go ahead and wrap this up with a disclaimer before you throw a chair at me.

i am in no way implying that this is canon or SHOULD be canon. i love luke and don’t want to see him betray layton, but this theory is meant to purely speculate the possibilites of the future of this anime

in a nutshell...

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, Season 1, Episode 13 ("Concert Interruptus")

What happens in this episode: Paris, Rory, Madelyn and Louise are paired up on a school project. Rory has an adventure outside of the usual Stars Hollow/Grandma's House/Chilton universe, going to a concert in NYC with the Chilton Crew. but several of them escape. We learn about Rachel for the first time and meet another Boy Jess who is hella sketchy. Episode 13: Rory and Lorelai have a conversation where it's implied there are no crackers in the house. Episode 12: What did I spy behind the toaster?

Don't tell me they ate all the crackers in the house in the span of one episode, because I won't listen to crackpot theories. Just a heads up, these Saltine crackers WILL become a running joke over the course of the next several episodes because I'm weird. And just wait until the first "Tomatos" sighting.

Wow, I've seen this show several times through and I never realized the fucking thing had a name. Warning: Bridge Rage is coming. Isn't there anything else they could be raising money for? Like group therapy for the whole town? Lorelai showed up in a rummage sale sweatshirt and Luke had a total shitfit. Now I'm intrigued.

Oh, right. Her. Luke, Sookie and Miss Patty are all talking about Rachel like she's dead.

Sookie Replies: You didn't know about Rachel because she traveled all the time, and you had an 11 year old and you were just moving in to this house. Uhh what? One of the most significant storylines of this show, one that is hammered into your brain over and over again, is that they had lived in their current house since Rory was a small child, after living in the shed first. Where were they supposed to be living for the first 11 years of Rory's life? It's merely my legal obligation to point out any errors in continuity I find and that one is a big, gaping, massive hole. #Hole. Sookie goes on to say that Luke never talks about Rachel. Alright pal, it's been 6 years since you broke up. The Danes/Mariano men have got to learn the art of moving on and not stewing in heartbreak juices for years. Memorable Signs:

I do not understand the obsession with that fucking bridge. If only I could take a sledgehammer and finish it off so I never have to hear about it or watch them throw another corny fundraiser for it. Dear Stars Hollow: If your town didn't blow your entire budget on having a festival every week, you could repair that bridge. Hell, you could have a brand new one constructed plus several more. The fundraisers to fund the bridge repair cost more money to put together than it would take to actually just repair the fucking thing. BRIDGE RAGE! "Rory your boyfriend's no slouch either. 6'2 and feisty." WE GET IT DEAN IS TALL. Is it just me, but does it feels weird to anyone else when Rory talks about going to the mall or some other place outside of Stars Hollow. It feels like the people of SH live in a pod cut off from the real world. You're going to New York City? Is that safe for pod people? Is the atmosphere breathable? Do you think the Walmart Jess works at is in Stars Hollow? (of course it isn't, if it was it would have put Doose's out of business in a week).

The confusing: Major continuity error claiming Rory and Lorelai had only lived in their current home for 5 years. Cracker confusion.

- the scene’s interest in doorways, starting with how julie producing the song is what gets her invited inside the patterson’s house in the first place and the way luke having to make the choice to follow her through amounts to him consenting to the plan to share it

- this subtle push-in on luke signifying that we’re entering his pov

- how the way the decor and luke & his mom fading into the scene reinforces the fact that we’re inside luke’s memory, incomplete and not perfectly accessible save for the broadest strokes and the way it felt to live it

- the stupid, sexy drama kingness of this turn toward the door + the breathy way he sings the line one of us running out

- no special thoughts, i just think this moment is neat

- the way the lyric then maybe time would not erase me really only makes sense as something ghost luke would write and joins the whole of “now or never” as some seriously ominous lyricizing for a totally alive seventeen-year-old, thus birthing my crackpot theory that luke is prescient, but in a lowkey and really unhelpful way. like, lyrics will pop into his brain and he’ll write them down because they feel right but he’s not about to look that gift horse in its mouth by actually unpacking these things, okay, he doesn’t know what clocks move forward / but we don’t get older, no is supposed to mean he’s just a vessel for the MUSIC, bro

- how freaking clever the lyrics and the words i most regret are the ones i never meant to leave / unsaid emily are, playing with and blurring the boundary between those two separate-but-connected lines (and, GOD, the way that adds to the scene’s whole thing with thresholds hOLD ON MAN i’m gonna need a minute.............)

- the fact that he checks his lyrics/music here while trying to play through the song, presumably for the first time, because it feels like such a realistic beat in the creative process

- how julie’s line ‘you’ve already said [what you’d say to your mom if she could hear you]’ deepens the meaning and tragedy behind the lyrics who’d be the first to break / guess we’re alike that way because of course luke never considered actually using “unsaid emily” as a tool for conversation between him and his mom. she’s rejected his music and he pours his heart and soul into that, always, so he’s probably convinced her feelings about it wouldn’t change even given that she’s the subject matter.

- the significance of them being on either side of a closed door here. for luke, it’s about not being sure how to reach his mom on her side of this conflict. for emily, it’s about the way she’s clutching onto a picture of luke (the frame is similar to the one julie acknowledges when she first comes into the patterson’s house, though i haven’t further proof that they’re the same photo), unwilling to let go of that frozen-in-time idea of who he should be as her son. ultimately, it’s her stubbornness, her refusal to acknowledge luke as an adult who can make his own choices, that keeps them on the opposite sides of this particular threshold.

- the way the studio door is wide open here in a way we rarely see it when rehearsals are in session because, in writing this song, luke is trying to process his feelings enough to bridge the gap between him and his mother. he’s leaving his door open, both to her and to the possibility that the song will give him the catharsis he seeks. and i absolutely love the detail that his ability to leave this door open hinges (heh) on all of his boys being there for him, supporting and encouraging him. backing him musically and emotionally.

- how him stepping through a threshold when his parents find out he’s died makes me go feral because this is what doorway imagery is all about people!!!! passing between life and death!! great, grand emotional transitions!!! add to that the way luke is currently stuck in the doorway of life and in imminent danger of stepping out completely and permanently and !?!!!? AHHH!!!!!!!!

- this pull-out signifying that we’re done with luke’s dissociative episode...ahem, sorry, i mean memories.

- lastly, julie’s whole gently shaming speech about luke being born to make music and how, even though i think ‘he was lucky’ is a bit of an insensitive point to put on the whole thing, seeing his parents agree to that fact is the last thing luke stays for because that’s it! he’s finally hearing what he’s needed to hear for the old wounds to start to heal.

Gotta be honest, I did feel his hair looks eerily like adult Izuku hair. I’ve been jokingly saying for a while what if Compress is actually Hisashi Midoriya and not AFO lmao. (Of course, given what Izuku’s dad’s quirk seems to be, AFO still makes much more sense. Sako being Hisashi is clearly more of a crackpot idea lmao)

Personally I’d find it both funny AF, given how popular the dad for one theory is, and also admittedly more interesting if it was Sako.

You see, for me going the Dad For One route in a story like this feels...too obvious? Bnha has been about subverting expectations to a degree, and for me the DFO theory seems like......IDK, kinda the most typical thing to expect. I think another reason why I find this less interesting of a plotpoint ultimately, is because unlike the whole Dabi is Touya thing, there has barely been any build up about the identity of Izuku’s dad as far as I can tell, so I’d honestly prefer being a little surprised by it in this case.

(Might also just be because of Hori being Star Wars fan and all, and the big thing in Star Wars was the whole Vader is Luke’s dad thing, so my brain just sort of automatically connects those things and finds it too predictable, IDK it’s all a personal preference thing in all honesty)

I’m not saying I’ll be upset if AFO is Izuku’s dad tho, don’t get me wrong; if it works with the narrative, I’m more than fine with. I take coherent, reasonable plot over surprise twists any day, even if I do predict what happens as a result. I will also not mind if it turns out to be our local magic dad or somebody else. We don’t really know jack shit in that department yet, anyway. Izuku’s dad and his identity is still a mystery pretty much.

Let’s just wait and see what the story reveals once it goes further ahead!

......I’m also honestly lowkey amused/spooked how similar Compress’ hair looks to how I drew my first DFO AU Hisashi’s hair. Another thing that’s kinda funny to me about this is all the old man jokes that has been made about Sako, then turns out he’s pretty handsome and not some old fart under that mask.

Theory Ahead For Perfect Harmony Scene!

Okay, so I just rambled massively in the tags of the gifset I just reblogged, but that really won’t reach people for discussion on this so I’m making a full blown post about it here:

I was discussing the Perfect Harmony scene in LENGTH with my 10 year old nephew today (because as I’ve mentioned, I tricked my nephews into watching this show and they now love it bahaha) while he was here today for me to supervise his remote learning. So during breaks in their day, I’d have the spotify queued up to the sountrack and Perfect Harmony came on, and he blanked because he could not place the song in the series. After I explained that it was when Julie was dancing with Nick and Luke came out of the mirror and they danced together, he was like 'Wait that was LUKE? I thought it was some new ghost! That's not Luke's hair!', which made me laugh far too hard for his liking but he found it amusing too. But THEN we were talking and we came up with a crackpot theory. 

So we see Caleb take over Nick in the end right? 

WHAT IF Luke took over Nick somehow, not evilly, but just because he felt so strongly in that moment watching the two of them dance?

So the dance sequence with Luke wasn't COMPLETELY Julie's imagination but a sort of half-real thing that happened, but neither can explain it, so they just don't talk about it and go on believing it was in their heads? 

Sure it's far fatched but my nephew was super proud of this theory that we came up with together, and I figured I'd share for discussion.

So, it’s four am and like I’m still shaking but galaxy brain crackpot theory time: The young Jedi that Luke was training that Kylo murdered aren’t the first batch of Jedi that Luke trained? Or maybe he trained like one at a time in the beginning? Listen idk I’m reeling

tbqh isn't the rey = a skywalker stuff geared more around the idea she's a female clone of vader or reincarnation or him? hence the hall of mirrors stuff in tlj, copies of copies, visions in tfa being vaders/her own memories, why she's been able to dodge succumbing to the darkside with relative ease, why her talent for the force is rivaled only by vader and ben in the films, why ben has this superstrong connection with her, why anikins lightsaber calls to her, why that "your eyes" line was cut,

a) that was a crackpot theory, not the popular interpretation---the majority of the re/ywalker folks just thought she was Luke’s (or Leia’s) biological daughter, and b) it would require a shitton of infodumping to be properly explained in the narrative, and it doesn’t really work in the context of the existing canon. Idk how cloning works in the GFFA, but if Rey is Anakin’s literal clone, why doesn’t she look at all like him? And how can she be reincarnated Anakin if he became a Force Ghost at the end of RotJ? The one way I could see it work is that Rey was, like Anakin, created spontaneously by the midichlorians (but i don’t see the sequel trilogy bringing that concept back, because it makes the Force too prosaic) or maybe created in lab by Palpatine (given how there was an Observatory on Jakku), frozen or something and then accidentally discovered by her soon-to-be foster parents, but... again, it’s a stretch, too complex backstory and lore needed here.

Why is this a more plausible explanation than Rey really being a Nobody who was chosen by the Force to fix the Skywalker mess? Why can’t her powers be really hers, rather than an extension of a male character’s powers?

Re: the visions, I’ve always interpreted them as the lightsaber’s memories, mixed with stuff that the Force wanted her to see. And her experience in the cave is symbolic of her quest for her own identity. She went in there seeking to find out someone else’s identity, hoping that this would give answers to who she is, and the Force told her stop defining yourself around other people, you, you matter, focus on yourself.

the chair could be True Polymorphed Yeza my dudes (that was my first thought when it was described) and,,,,,,,,,,,,,yikes

the mean elven lady is most likely the archmage that they saw, c’mon

imo Nott is definitely a goblin considering all the backstory she’s already told the group, about working with the torturer etc

I thought Nott only knows Yeza through having befriended him when he was captured but it doesn’t seem like the case considering she knows his apothecary and the basement etc. (will need to rewatch to confirm)

Nott didn’t have magic before meeting Caleb so she never could have disguised herself before

this points towards Veth/Beth being Luke’s birth mother and a separate person who is not Nott - and who was actually killed by the goblins

However, Yeza cares enough about Nott to still be thankful about the gifts she sends - Nott seemed disappointed Yeza told Luke V/Beth was dead so??? What did Nott expect if she knew V/Beth was dead??? It is likely she didn’t think this through, and that was the only disguise she knew

Nott clearly cares for Luke like she would her own son - would that make sense if she had never met him before and only knew of him through Yeza’s stories? I am inclined to say yes, her fantasy/guilt goes that deep

someone predicted earlier that Nott had a son in Felderwin so props to that person; being aware of the possibility made the shock a bit less heart-stopping but I was still definitely not expecting it

I’m so worried about everyone but particularly Nott+Caleb - I was NOT expecting Caleb’s backstory to get tied in so quickly

EDIT: ok I admit the more I read other thoughts the more I think reincarnated-Nott isn't totally a crackpot theory but,,,,,I still think more signs point towards Nott not actually being Beth

headcanon thingy: scully chooses Daniel in all things

1.      She shows up at his apartment to tell him she’staking a leave of absence, needs time to get Daniel back in fightingshape.  Stumbles over her words chewingthem twice before spitting them out.  Yes,she used to love this man, yes, she thinks she could love him again.  This is her choice.  No more unhinged quests, no more being leftby the sidelines while Mulder falls face first into the sunset hoping for theworst, only to be let down when she pulls him up by his belt loops dusts himoff and begs, “When will I be enough? When will you just love me?”  It’sbeen one too many chances.  One too manybeating hearts stuffed deep into back pockets, lint covered and forgotten.  She was done looking for answers.  She just needed something simple.  Something she knew was already there.  So, she left him frozen, an icicle poised tofall, splinter off and shatter at any moment. He never did say anything just watched her walk out his front door.

2.      She married Daniel on a Thursday wearing alittle white veil with Maggie by her side. She resigned from the F.B.I months ago, already accepted a MedicalExaminers position.  Sometimes at nightafter Daniel’s been lulled to sleep by their luke warm love making she draws anX on the window, a tiny beacon, her siren song for Mulder to come and save her.  No matter how often she regrets their endingshe knows she can never go back.  She’llswipe the X away with tear stained fingers, she doesn’t really want to besaved.

3.      Without Scully Mulder becomes exactly whateveryone always said he was, a crackpot, a wash up, a non-factor wasting awaybeneath conspiracy theories and tin foil hats. His office has become a place of legend, he’s the troll under the bridgeand new agents sneak in hoping to capture this forsaken creature and show him off.  Each one more disappointed than the last, allthey ever find is a broken man staring at the ceiling waiting for pencils orthe sky to drop.

4.      She sees him in some shit hole bar she frequentsafter work.  The drinks are cheap, and noone offers her a second look, no drunken frat boys looking to score, justshredded people sipping their medicine. She wants to go over to him take him in her arms and plead for areversal anything to undo what she has done. Instead she sits firmly planted at her barstool, Daniel’s been dead ayear, it’s been 7 since she walked out of his life.  She downs her vodka in one large gulp, headducked, collar pulled up, making her escape. She’s almost to her car when she feels his fingertips trickle across herback.  “I see you Scully” He looks likeshit, a month worth of scruff obscuring his face, eyes sunken, soul shriveledand deflated.  She doesn’t think justfeels.  Feels his lips on hers, his armswrap around her, feels the weight of 7 years and a destiny dug out of thegutter engulf her.

5.      They stayed locked inside his bedroom for 3days.  Feral teenagers drunk on flesh,the promise of each new orgasm egging them on. By the fourth day he’ll wake to find her poised at the edge of the mattress,tears collecting on his bedspread.  “Ican’t go back Mulder.  Not to that house.”  He’ll kneel in front of her naked, bare andwholly for her consumption.  “Stay.  Stay with me Scully.”  She’ll kiss him lips barley able to form, herwords a razor ready to slice.  “Thisplace is the past Mulder and we can never go back.”  She leaves. Leaves his apartment, leaves her very meaning strewn across thathardwood floor.  In a week he’ll show upat her job coax her into his car and drive her out to Virginia.  He bought them a house.  Somewhere new, a future.  A place where neither of them could everimagine a time where they’d want to go back.

What an incredible season! I can’t believe season 2 is over and it looks like we may have a bit longer wait for the series to continue. I’m not going to lie I was far happier to see R2-D2 than the Jedi than he accompanied. I also was hoping that Mando’s quest to bring Grogu to his kind would offer us more information about his species, not delivering him to a Jedi. I had a blast talking about it and other Star Wars news on Who’s The Bossk? but had a few additional thoughts I decided to share here.

I loved the parallelism in this episode with the Jedi’s arrival taking on the stormtroopers to Darth Vader’s arrival in Rogue One as well as Mando’s farewell to Grogu with Luke and Vader in RotJ. 

I loved the juxtaposition of Mando’s arrival on a eerily quiet launch tube with ladies blasting their way through the ship.

I love the way they used the sterile white gleam of the darksaber so menacingly when Moff Gideon was waving it over Grogu.

I’m still holding to my theory that the astromech droid we saw on the back of Trapper Wolf’s X-wing is .R2-A6. My evidence is quite poor just a couple of screengrabs and the droid’s bio have led me to that belief.

But my latest crackpot wish (nod to Jay & Jack) is Grogu will be a reverse Vader experience for the audience. With Vader we knew him as a villain and then empathized with him as we watched the sequels. And Ben Solo was introduced to us as Kylo Ren. With Grogu I think it would be interesting to let us fall in love with Grogu but then see him transform into an ultimate evil. What a gut punch!
