You look down at your bucket list, only a few items being ticked off. You nod in satisfaction and grabbing your tote bag off the ground. You are currently waiting for Saiki at his locker. Nothing else has changed for the past two weeks besides that. Although, forget your condition for a minute! Saiki has been visibly jealous, well .. maybe that’s too intense of an word. He seems irritable when you hang out with Toritsuka at school. His eyes roll, his shoulders slump, and his expression just screams annoyed when you leave him to pass time with Toritsuka. Now, Saiki is not one to show his emotions too much but this was an exception. Honestly, you did not really like Toritsuka in a romantic manner at all. Shocker!

You remember a horrifying moment when you were resting your head at the kitchen table and thinking, “If Toritsuka was Saiki, I’d be willing to make it work”. A screech came out of your mouth as soon as you said that. What about Saiki? You don’t like him at all, of course. Well, his eyes are a lovely color and the way he rarely has expressions is cute and all … NO.

You attempt to direct your thoughts somewhere, looking down at the uncrossed activities on your list. Hm? dye hair?

You really doubt Saiki would agree to dying his hair, even a strand of it a differerent color than his original. It was worth a try!

Saiki finally pops up behind you, the side of his fist hitting you upside the head. You jump from the sudden touch, looking bacj and smiling instantly.

“Kusuo” You say, lingering behind him as he grabs his shoes from the locker.

“Yes Y/n, what is it?” He asks with a bored tone, as if he knew what you were going to tell him.

“So like, wouldn’t it be so cool if like-”

Saiki turns around and shakes his head. “I seen your list before, I know what’s coming up and its a hard no from me”. You frown, crossing your arms and leaning against the locker beside him.

“Seriously? This has to be least craziest thing on my list” You know you’re telling the truth because you have a ‘lets get piercings!’ to check off. Saiki ponders for a bit before stating the obvious.

“Five coffee jellies and we can do whatever color, but just a strand”.

You stand there in defeat, “Five?!? You’re absurd”. However, you realize this might your only chance.

“Tomorrow after school? I got all the supplies” You bite your lip in anticipation, annnnd.

Saiki nods!

You feel like you just scored a five point goal, or whatever, you don’t know how sports work. You jump and down, not caring that Saiki is trying to calm you down because you’re bring way too much attention to the both of you.

“Bring those chips I like” He whispers, a smile tugging at his lips but he won’t let it show. “The double extra hot ones?” You ask, leaning in closer to hear him. Saiki places his pointer fingertip againsy your forehead and pushes you away.

“Too close” He says, walking past you. You spin around and pace quickly to catch up to him. Oh how much fun its gonna be to ruin his hair!

Saiki lets you in his house, reassuring you that his parents are both out for dinner. You hold up a bag of the coffee jelly he requested, and another bag of the supplies. He’s visibly annoyed but you know deep down he’s excited. Maybe? You make yourself home as you’ve been here atleast.. seven times? You know his house layout because one time you insisted you guys should play hide and seek. Childish? Yes but it was fun seeing Saiki struggle to find you in his washing machine.

“Kusuo, you sure you’re not gonna run away from this?” You ask, setting up the supplies in the bathroom.

Saiki shakes his head, “No I don’t think so, but if you fuck it up, you’ll need to give me five more coffee jellies”. Your shoulders slump in sadness. “I won’t! I’ll just follow the instructions! It can’t be that hard.”

Saiki sighs, sitting in the chair you provided. He leans against the chair ad he watches you rip open packages and spill substances into a bowl.

“Seriously L/n, are you even reading the instructions?” He complains, horrified that the bleach is gonna break his hair. You mix the sticky substances together, and add a little bit more of that blue dye.

“I got it!”.

You’re applying the hair dye and you feel a pair of eyes locked on you. You shift your eyes down and see Saiki staring at you.. with the softest expression. He looks content? You move your hands away and stare at him back, silence filling the room. Saiki slowly raises his hand, his fingers brushing the hair away froim your visioin. You swear you felt your heart flip. But why would it flip? This is Saiki we’re talking about, your best friend?

“You know you got a bit of gold in your eyes?” Saiki murmurs, his fingers now tangled in your hair. You hiccup, mostly out of embarrassment and shyness. Saiki seems to notice this as he quickly takes his hand back.

“No I-I never knew” You stutter and immediately wanna go hide in the dark corners. Saiki nods, crossing his arms and avoiding eye contact with you. You cough, picking up the gooey hair dye and proceeding to add a streak of blue in Saiki’s hair. Both of you refuse to say a word. Saiki would be a liar if he said he didn’t felt his heart flip too when you locked eyes with him. Will he ever admit it to himself? I don’t think so. He still thinks he is not capable of developing romantic feelings for someone.

After what seems eternity, you tell Saiki to wash out the dye and you’ll be right back. You walk briskly over to the living room and breathe out heavily. You were still surprised about what happened. Saiki acted completely different back there, and it’s making you lose your mind.

“Oh for fucks sake, what was that?” You pace back and forth, a fist to your mouth as you still process what occured, “I swear if he’s playing with my feelings.. I mean what feelings??!”. You flop down on the couch, staring up at the ceiling. He has been acting weird, ever since you been hanging out with Toritsuka. Maybe he’s just jealous, as a friend that you are spending your time with someone else. There’s no other reason to it, you think. You go back to the bathroom to check on Saiki. He faces you, a small smile playing on his face. The blue streak on his hair looks vibrant.

“I think I like it, nice job” Saiki compliments, returning to his nonchalant state. You grin, jumping and down towards Saiki.

“I know right? It looks so good, my turn!!” You sit down and place the bowl in Saiki’s hands. There’s still enough hair goo to go around.

Saiki sloppily applies it to multiple strands of your hair, practically giving you highlights. After a few minutes if comfortable silence, Saiki breaks it with a harsh statement.

“I don’t think Toritsuka deserves you” Saiki bluntly says, wrapping foil around the dyed hair pieces.

”And why is that?” You frown, looking up at him with sad eyes. It’s not like you like Toritsuka, you’re just bored.

”Anyone else can treat you better” Saiki explains, suspiciously avoiding eye contact now.

”And who can that anyone possibly be” You roll your eyes, not a simple person coming to your mind.

“Me, for example” Saiki mumbles, he mentally facepalms himself as soon as he says that.

What do I mean by that? I can treat y/n better? What the hell am I saying?

You pause, flabbergasted by what Saiki said. You nervously back up, feeling your cheeks heat up. Saiki seems to be surprised by his sudden words. He's leaning against the bathroom counter, his hands in fists. Saiki is not sure why he said that. He’s so sure he meant it in a platonic manner but a small part of him knows that might not be the case.

“I mean” He sighs deeply, trying to collect the right words to say.

“You meant that as a friend” You finish his sentence, urgently trying to make this awkward tension disappear. Saiki’s eyebrows furrow.

Right, just as a friend.

“Exactly, nothing else” He replies, his knuckles now white from balling his fists.

You smile, nudging him playfully. “Silly Saiki, you are the bestest friend”. Saiki nods, looking away to think to himself. Why does he feel off whenever you call him a friend? And there had to be an explanation as to why he feels a bang of jealousy when you’re with Toritsuka.

He looks back at you, watching you text away on your phone. You slightly giggle, your hand covering your mouth. Saiki suddenly feels a warm feeling in his chest.

That damn feeling again, dammit what is this.

Saiki continues watching you, a small smile tugging at his lips as you keep trying to hide your laugh.

Whatever this might be, I think I’m too fond of Y/n now ..

He had to figure his feelings out, all this is suspiciously signaling that his feelings are more than platonic. But how could this be? You’re his friend and he’s yours.

Saiki repeats the same sentence in his head that he has been for the past few weeks.

i don't know if i have a lot of general courting headcanons, but here's some of them!

courting is typically marked by a gift exchange; traditionally, a piece of jewelry. this jewelry is usually designed exclusively by the na'vi seeking a mate, but it is common for family and friends to contribute to its construction by donating beads, feathers, textiles etc. towards it. this symbolises the acceptance and support of the future bond by the future in laws

the beginning of courtship periods are often celebrated, but courting can actually take quite a long time. the na'vi mate for life, after all, and making tsaheylu with their intended mate is a sacred act, so they don't believe in rushing it. (this is what makes jake and neytiri's sudden mating so scandalous)

throughout the courtship period, gifts and acts are service are exchanged in order to prove their worth as a mate. hunters/warriors will gift their intended mates with their kills to prove they can provide for them. carved wooden figures and tools are common too, as well as textiles and clothes woven by hand.

scent is big for the na'vi! my favourite headcanon is that the na'vi are like cats, and that they have scent glands in their noses, cheeks, foreheads, and chins! so you'll see a lot of nuzzling their faces into their mate's face, neck, shoulders, etc. in order to coat them in their scent. it's a form of claiming, and it's big among courting couples who haven't yet made their mating official!

sejanus plinth: the name & what it says about fate vs. choice

sejanus plinth is the namesake of the roman solider, lucius aelius sejanus. i've seen many people question why suzanne collins would choose to name sejanus plinth after this historical figure, and i think her reasoning was rather clever. their similarities are few, but striking: both of them have fathers name strabo, both came from humble riches and both of them were eventually tried for treason. save for that, it seems everything about their narratives were different. i believe collins did this as a way to invite conversation surrounding the topic of destiny vs. choice.

like sejanus plinth, lucius aelius sejanus was born into opportunity because of his father, lucius seius strabo. the roman sejanus was born into the equestrian class, which was one of two upper classes in roman republic. the other class was the patricians. the equestrian class were beneath the patricians (much like how district two, while wealthy, was still seen as below the capital). lucius seius strabo distinguished himself by entering not one, but two, of the highest ranking positions that could be afforded to people in his class: the governor of egypt & praetorian prefect (the praetorian guard was, essentially, a unit of the roman army meant to bodyguard the emperor and their family, as well as watching over civilians). while there is much to be said about the parallels between the equestrian class and district 2--and how both worked to protect the higher class, while remaining nonthreatening to them-- that is a post for a later day.

unlike sejanus plinth, the roman sejanus grasped readily onto the opportunities his father, strabo, had gotten for him. on the back of his father's hard work, roman sejanus rose to power in the praetorian guard, eventually becoming one of the praetorian prefects, alongside his father. this is where the narratives of sejanus plinth and lucius aelius sejanus begin to greatly divide. though sejanus plinth had been readied to take over his father's empire from a young age (being taught how to shoot guns, being the sole heir), he did not take readily to the idea, especially when they were transferred to the capital. sejanus plinth did not see what was happening the capital as desirable, whereas lucius aelius sejanus found himself increasingly power hungry and he did wish to increase his ranking. eventually the roman sejanus outdid his father in his accomplishments. he gained the trust of the emperor tiberius and rose to the position of praetor--a ranking not usual for someone of his class background. this earned him enemies amongst the patrician class and the imperial family, with one of them being drusus julius caesar, the very son of emperor tiberius himself. drusus did not like sejanus because he was encroaching on his grounds, seemingly taking his position as his father's successor in everything but name. sejanus even went as far as trying to secure these ties by marrying his four year old daughter to one of tiberius' family members, but couldn't because the boy died. however, sejanus' ambition did not let him stop there. eventually he poisoned drusus slowly after seducing his wife and making a conspirator out of her. the slow nature of the death allowed it to be ruled natural causes.

in the end, roman sejanus was tried for treason when tiberius began to grow suspicious of sejanus and his growing influence. whlle sejanus plinth shares the same end as this sejanus, the nature of their downfalls cannot be more differerent. sejanus plinth was tried for treason, yes, but hardly for his growing influence, and certainly not for his desire for power. sejanus plinth was hung because of what the capital deemed rebel conspiracy. but plinth died, not because he wished to be powerful, but because he wanted the districts to be free. while sejanus plinth might've been destined to his beginning and fated to his ending, he made choices along the way that drove him away from the path that his predecessor took. he continually chose empathy and kindness, and he could not find comfort in his father's successes and his riches, knowing how many were being punished for n good reason.

the differences between sejanus plinth and lucius aelius sejanus are just as important as their similarities -- if not more -- because they bring up a conversation suzanne collins flirts with a lot in the ballad of songbirds & snakes, which is: how much of who we become is pre-decided and how much of it is choice? with sejanus, we see him rebelling every step of the way, even, it seems, in terms of his 'fate.' had he done what he'd been meant to do, sejanus might very well have lead a long and prosperous career alongside coriolanus or someone like coriolanus, rising to power despite the fact that the power and position was never meant for someone like him. he might've died the very same way, sure, but he'd be remembered a whole lot differently.

sejanus plinth, unlike coriolanus snow, knew that choice was important -- he knew that, though there are factors that certainly help pre-decide what we become, they are not the end all, be all. sejanus plinth's namesake was power hungry and ambitious, ready to take all that could be given to him and rise in the ranks no matter the costs, whereas sejanus plinth was kind-hearted and had no interest whatsoever in being powerful. all he wanted was justice and peace, and for people to stop killing children. they both died because someone feared they could be too powerful, but they were incredibly different people.

Y'know I wish they kept the trend of fighting the previous main charecter in Pokemon games. Like it wouldn't work as well past Gen 3 due to gender differerences meaning either ignoring one of the choices or making it a double battle ans so substantially less cool and would work even less well when they start adding skin tones but I think it would have been neat. Maybe have them match the protagonist's gender and skin tone?

Yeah tbh matching it to the current protag choices would work.

They actually sorta did something like that in BW and B2W2 where depending on the latter protag's gender you'll get word on the former protag that matches the gender. Unfortunately the BW protag doesn't appear which kinda sucks because it felt like they were building up to that.

Or maybe it's like. For example if you boot up SV your Switch can recognize that you have a save file for SwSh and yoink the protag save file from that. It's a slight extra step in actually going into the gamefile, but SV already does recognize other game files on the Switch so.

I was talking to someone about community bands. At least in my area, there are plenty of community bands that have 90 year olds through middle schoolers all playing together, all sitting next to each other at rehearsal and they get to share wisdom not just about music but about life in a way as well. The conversation got brought up because I mentioned to him that an older man from my section texted me a happy holiday message and he just thought it was beautiful that music can make casual relationships between people of such differerent demographics.

Im working on my very first series set on an apocalyptic/ end of world cenario.

I was originally wanting to just write this in the walking dead universe, and as an x reader but idk. Maybe i should just go the route of making it an original story. Maybe even differerent monsters.

Yeah, just ended up going the full 15 wins with my BW FDN Elenda Brawl deck. I'm not under any illusions that I made an insane deck or anything, since a good number of my opponents were just trigger happy on the concede button, and a couple got manascrewed, so there were a few non-games, but it still won quite a lot, and I even got a 14 win-streak, apparently. So it's a nice change of pace, and I guess the key differerence between this and regular Brawl is that you don't see the same few (annoying) facecards, which is ironic since we're limited in our options for this event, but it still doesn't feel stale going up against the same few cards. The deck is pretty close to finalized, though I could see some more minor tweaks to get it really solid. I should probably more severely limit the actual creature count so I can focus more on PWs and sweepers, but it's still at a good place as-is. I love opening with Bitterblossom and even Black Market Connections, or whatever it's called, because you can be a little loose and carefree with you life since Elenda, and other effects, can gain a good chunk of it back. I've been down to like five or four life with one or both enchantments out and have felt just fine since she just piles on the life easily enough, especially when the menace gets active, which isn't too hard to hit. We almost solo-beat Progenitus, too, but were one swing from winning. So she really delivers and the rest of the deck can pile on the pressure without her, which makes it even more likely she can land uncontested, when the opponent's busy dealing with the other stuff. Might have time for a few more games later, but we'll see.

also the croquembouche guy IS doing science even while high. when he's making the choux, he stopped to check the consistency of the batter and realized he somehow cooked the eggs while dropping them in (and even wonders how that happened because he checked beforehand that the bowl wasn't hot so this wouldn't happen). which is why he made another batch and even showed us the V-shape of the batter (the correct consistency). he does this throughout the video. for example, he checked if his caramel was too dark and seemed to be concerned he might have overcooked the caramel

same with the macaron guy. his second attempt was a success because he followed instructions, actually measured his ingredients, and he was even comparing the consistency of his meringue in both attempts and showing the differerence an electric mixer makes compared to hand mixing

this may not look like it, but that's the scientific method in action!

I do agree that anyone can bake and it isn't some arcane art that's somehow more difficult than cooking. but that really isn't what "baking is a science" means imo. there's a larger error of margin when cooking; you can generally course correct to a certain degree while your food is on the stove without remaking the dish from scratch. cooking is usually more forgiving of mistakes. it's a lot more difficult to course correct when your pastry is in the oven or even if you just messed up the batter beforehand. if there was an easier way, people would be doing that instead of remaking from scratch

anyways, props to both of them though because macarons and croquembouche are not easy recipes. anyone can learn to bake but croquembouche is such a funny example for that because the baker himself said it took him 12 hours to make this and he attempted the choux 4 times. macaron guy attempted twice and in the second time, he consulted a recipe and was given advice from the comments. you can fuck around with baking but you might fail along the way if you don't know what you're doing (or even if you do know; croquembouche baker clearly does) and you have to not get discouraged by that. not everyone's gonna have the patience (or even the resources — some baking ingredients or equipment are things you deliberately buy and don't have stocked in your pantry all the time if you don't bake often) to try over and over until they succeed.

My basic advice for people starting out is to learn some basic hand stitches like the ladder stitch, backstitch, straight stitch, and basting stitch; always use more pins than you think you need; never glue what you can sew instead; and always take your time! A few stitches can make a big differerence in the shape of a plush, so if you're not happy with the outcome, you can always carefully remove the stitches and try again! Mistakes are inevitable, but a lot of them can be undone, especially with sewing. A seam ripper is a very important tool!

With dyes, mistakes can be a little more permanent, so I like to add a little bit of dye at a time to my pot until I get the color I want. If it ends up too light after washing and rinsing, you can always do another dyebath, but if it's too dark there's not much you can do (the rit color remover, for example, is for their all purpose dye, not the dyemore for synthetics). If you are using dyes, be sure to get the correct one! All purpose is for natural fabrics, so it won't work on plush; you need the Dyemore. Once you use a pot and utensils for dye, it is no longer safe to cook with, so you'll want to keep a specific dye pot and utensils that aren't mixed in with the cooking ones.

On the subject of utensils, make sure you have good fabric scissors if you plan to cut fabric! Don't use them for anything but fabric, and don't let anyone else use them either 👀 Regular craft scissors can absolutely mangle the edges of your fabric. It's also good to have a pair of small sewing scissors with pointed ends. Great for cutting threads, or for cutting out tiny pieces of fabric! If you're removing safety eyes, my tool of choice is a ratcheting cable cutter but people also have good results with bolt cutters! I have a tutorial on Tumblr for safety eye replacements.

I think Nick is closeted bcus like Louis it is noticeable there is no sexual chemistry with women but how is this ambiguous thing going to play out when we see with Harry that he is now getting so much backlash for it. How will he do queer roles while being closeted and not talking about his sexuality. People will eventually be vocal about it. Will he have to do Louis type denials which will lose him his queer fans. Will he go for a het fanbase like Harry which will probably be so mentally damaging to him considering he has mental health problems, and it will maybe hurt his creativity. I saw that he says Harry is an inspiration to him and well if he follows Harry's path then maybe he'll end up the same way as Harry and a negative image.

I know people like to contrast and compare nick to harry and louis, because that's what we know and that's our best frame of reference when it comes to closeting, queerbaiting and appealing to your target audience. But i think their situations are very different, and when the situations are differerent we can't expect the same results.

For one, Harry is currently straight presenting. He's holding hands with his current beard, making out with supermodels and getting tattoos for his gfs. His straight presenting isn't subtle, it's full on. It's aggravating for those of us who knows he's gay and with louis.

Secondly, Harry is also gay presenting, at least while touring. Singing medicine and his other bi music and waving rainbow flags and wearing glittery and feminine clothing. He's queercoding. That's a threath to the hets who wants to fantasise about marrying him.

The reason the queer community and some of the gp is calling him out for queerbaiting and his pr stunting is because he's playing both sides and stringing people along. Nobody wants that. It's problematic. He's created discontent on both sides, instead of keeping both sides happy. People are starting finding faults with him, calling him out more, engaging less and he's losing his shine. It creates pressure on harry, who is currently focusing on targeting the hets, who are the largest part of his fandom.

For nick it's very different. Nick isn't really straight presenting. I'd argue that he's queer presenting or presenting a very sexually ambiguous image. What he's presenting is a man who has a gayface, speaks about having both masc and femme traits, takes queer (and some straight) acting roles, attends pride, don't mind being called babygirl, refers to other men as sexy, who talkes openly about his mental health stuggles, his distain for toxic masculinity and advocates for prevention of men sexually assaulting women. He hasn't got time for relationships (his words) and hasn't been in one (publically) for a long time. Women are very comfortable around him and he cuddles up to both men and women, like the man baby he is.

Nick has never spoken directly about his sexuality. Even the daily mail agrees and they are the best source to gauge a celebrity's prefered narrative. He indirectly talks about being straight and it's easy to assume he is if you don’t dig a bit deeper. There are no pics or videos of him with women showing pda.

Nick also got a different fandom than harry. Nicks fandom is more like louis', predominantly queer or thinks that nick is queer. The composition of his fandom is due to his many queer roles. He's often refered to as a queer icon. As long as he wants to continue to do queer roles, i think he wants to keep his queer fandom. By changing the way he presents himself, for example by going very straight, like harry, he'd alienate the largest part of his fandom. I don't see a need for that, he's thriving and the fandom is thriving, by him just being himself. There is no fake baiting of either hets or queers. Harry is an inspiration for him, but i think it's mostly due to the androgynity in his fashion, something that nick wants to emulate.

It's hard to tell what strategy they are going for to make him known. The way he talks in interviews it doesn’t seem like they are going for stunting and pr relationships, but rather let his talent speak for itself. He wants to be taken seriously as an actor and not be known as a celebrity (his own words). That's the opposite of the strategy harry is going for. It also doesn’t seem like the promo around tioy is going to be het focused, but focused on the music. But that might change. I don't think there is a need for a queer denial, he doesn't mind the speculation (why would he) and it would amplify the queerbaiting speculation and alienate his fandom. So no, i think the best course of action is to keep up the ambiguity sourrounding him (that creates engagement on it's own). I don't think queerbaiting accusations will be a problem as long as he's not agressively straight presenting.
