Closing thoughts on Magilumiere
The third mahou anime of the season, and also the third one to land in the "I had quite many issues, but still had a good time and wish it well" tier.
Tumblr media
The story is set in a modern Japan where monsters cause trouble and magical girl monster exterminator is a line of work for adults. The main character Kana is a new magical girl hire at a start up company.
One issue I have is how the big companies vs little startups thing is presented in such a black and white way. Like the CEO of a big company is just super rude and condescending to the people around him and does things like throw the payment money to the floor for his employee to pick it up and remind her that she can only afford a few minutes of his time because his salary is so much bigger than hers. Why not have him stop his limousine so he can go kick an abandoned puppy he saw in a ditch to really drive home the message while we're at it? Social media has made it very apparent that big CEOs can be self absorbed and greedy idiots completely removed from the real world, but I don't think this makes for interesting storytelling in this case.
Then there's the startup side, which is portrayed as a perfect utopia, which I would otherwise be ok with if it wasn't for the way it's contrasted with the big companies. But now with the way things are I would have liked to see some of the downsides of startups for balance, like long hours or uncertain job security. And I don't know if this would make more sense for the Japanese audience, but to me it was just wild how the main characters' company is treated to have a radically innovative ideology when their strategy is... taking a look at the monster first before deciding what kind of magic to fire at it. Like the monsters have been around for years, but nobody else had ever thought about having on call tech support available for the technology powered magical girls when they engage in these dangerous battles?
I also have some trouble with some of the more "anime"/outlandish elements since a lot of the setting leans towards realism. Like even back when I started the manga I always thought that Kana's kiddy twintail hairstyle is kind of dumb when she's supposed to be an adult entering the workforce. Especially the oversized lab coat wearing child genius mechanic feels so out of place, she wasn't annoying as a character but she just completely takes me out of the story. I'm aware that plenty of serious anime have quirky characters and over the top designs and it's kind of unfair to single this one out, but I really think it would have benefited from a more grounded approach. And you can still give them cool magical girl designs even if their civilian hair is more tame!
Alright now that we got that out of the way let's list some things I liked because I do in fact enjoy this series. Of course the premise of working adult magical girls is interesting to those of us who haven't been in school for years, and I think the story does a good job exploring it. And also now there's no teen drama which also feels refreshing.
Also while I did complain about the portrayal of the main characters' business being overly positive in comparison to their competitors, I do actually like them quite a lot when they're just doing stuff on their own, it seems like it would be such a great place to work. The cast is fun and has good chemistry with each other, and from the newbie Kana's pov it feels wholesome how supportive all her sempai are. Especially boss man Shigemoto steals the show with his magical girl cosplays and tired energy every time he is on screen. Finally the season ends on a high note character wise when it highlights Kana's character development from an insecure beginner to a more confident mentor, overall she had a pretty good arc.

(Spits this monster at you like a cat with a dead bird)
Oooo
I had Completely forgotten about the quirk clone thing cause I shunted it between the realms of ā€œhow the hellā€ and ā€œnot my problemā€ but here? Here we have Potential! That I will get to later! My brain pinged on an idea and won’t let go
Never thought about it but I LOVE the idea of quirks thriving in different areas and how that may impact stuff. Cause Japan? FILLED with prejudice, weak quirks, and mutant quirks. But elsewhere? Where the violence was better/worse and the threats were different? You got way different demographics and That would have major impacts on how tech and society would develop. Problem is? Tech advancement. Almost all tech is based on heroics and some minor quirk support. Why would that be? The show itself states ā€œwe would be in space if quirks hadn’t shown upā€. So some chaos right? A little bit of a shake up and ubsequent focus on heroics? No! It’s been Generations since the dawn of quirks, long enough for the quirkless to be such a minority it constituted Aldera staying open and never being questioned! Even taking into account the hell that is MHA Japan and assuming quirks spread quickly throughout the population that’s still an insane amount of time for so little obvious andvancent. Key word here being ā€œobviousā€. Cause some of the tech they got floating around? Insane. Utterly insane. Support items that can rival and surpass quirks (hatsume), cheap reconstruction practices (Ochakos parents somehow running a near failing construction company and hero’s canonical paying for damaged structures despite the willingness to ignore property damage and prevalence of flashy quirks), a BELT that can STORE AND DIRECT LAZERS FROM SOMEONES STOMACHE. Utterly insane. So why? Why do we see modern architecture and complaints of low tech advancement? Why is the only place that even approaches the expected tech level a random floating island? Well it’s like you said, the first generation was balls to the walls insane. Things probably cooled down a bit since quirks are said to slowly advance in power but that first generation? Drawbacks? Quirk counciling? Buddy if your quirk isn’t replacing your organs with glitter you’ll be fine. Just? Absolutely crazy. Evidence for this? Well the only first generation quirks we know of is AFO, the stockpile and inheritance quirks that formed OFA, and maybe a mutant jaw quirk (though that one’s from a very questionable flashback so take lightly). That is an. Interesting lineup. The most powerful quirks in the known world and some guy with? A big jaw? What???? But if we go with the idea of the first generation having a much wider array of quirks it explains a lot. Why are mutations a thing? Why do those With mutations in the quirk (Eri and debatably OFA being the main known examples) have such strong ones? And why the hell does AFO use such simple quirks? Okay that last one seems random but IS relavent I promise. See, the first generation not only went mad with diversity, it also went mad in general.
The world of MHA has a low tech level, little known global politics, a facination with strong quirks to the point quirk marriages are a known thing (but more common in early generations), an established group who are the only ones allowed to openly use quirks, and a low population density that is remarked on multiple times in the show and manga. I think these all have a common tie in. Those early generations? Chaos. It’s openly acknowledged records are thin and society has nearly collapsed. But? Quirks were rare? What???? How would the existence of quirks have so much impact if they were rare and weak?? Well, what if they weren’t. What if, like we’ve said before, there were tons of quirks, they just hadn’t weeded out the ones that kill people who use them. Okay. But what about powerful quirks?! If they had plenty if quirks and there were powerful ones in the mix why aren’t quirks in modern MHA more powerful? They are. Oh they So are. We don’t see it often cause our POV are powerful villains and a bunch of hero’s who have insanely powerful quirks and training but your average joe? Jimmy who makes the good coffee? He can spit out his eyeball. Your friend Catherine? Can change her face. We see this in the show too, civilians rarely showcase more power than a basic cosmetic change and the known average civilian powers include minor telekinesis(Inko), long fingers (Middle School friend of Bakugo) working(?) wings (doctors grandkid and Bakugos middle school friend), moisturizing skin (Bakugos mom), frog mutantions (Tsuyu family), and other stuff like that. Not really hero worthy stuff. But strong quirks are super rare! Your Bakugos and your Tokoyamis are not gonna be found in every block. Why? If there are powerful quirks circulating from early on and powerful quirks are attractive enough quirk marriages were a thing why isn’t the world full of them!? Well same reason as everything else so far. That damn first generation.
Why am I so held up on them? Why is the world so weird?! Why won’t I just get to the freaking point!? Mainly to be dramatic but to also hype up the answer. War. Cataclysmic, world altering, superpowered war that shattered the world.
Set the stage. It’s the first generation. Quirks are just starting to crop up and people are scared. Your baby? Your darling child? Unless they’re very, very lucky they have a solid chance of being born with some horrific mutation that if it doesn’t kill them and everyone around them? Might cripple them for life. Eat away at their health. Ruin their chances at a ā€œnormal lifeā€. Whatever that means anymore.
Your child is now 4. Everyone in the village is nervous. It used to be a city but, well, when someone’s quirk is to rip apart the atoms of their hair every time they sneeze the population and infrastructure takes a hit. Back to the child, or lack thereof. Your nephew had a quirk. It wasn’t anything to insane, just some weird coloration to their hair, but it marked your family. You’re predisposed to power. At least that’s what the crazy’s on the radio say, it hasn’t been long enough to get evidence for that. Back to the child. You wait at the edge of the woods with everyone else. They have to make sure the kid doesn’t stumble back and you don’t run in after them. Learned that the hard way. Suddenly?
*FWOOSH*
Fire. A massive plume of fire falling from the heavens and into the forest. There’s panic initially. a quirk, and a powerful one at that, is never a good thing. While the town runs home and makes sure they have supplies to run if needed you walk into the woods. They’re probably dead. Too much power uncaring packed into too small a frame. Battered and burned from the falling debris and occasional bout of fire you find. A pile of dust, the fire originating from inside their body. A million and one ways they could die. But miraculously? They survived. Scared, crying, begging for help in the middle of a charred field, but alive.
As time progresses I imagine things would stabilize but initially? Widespread death due to unpredictable quirks. Destroyed infrastructure and higher infant mortality than the Dark Ages. And what do you get when infrastructure fails and society begins to collapse? Disease and famine. Weather through natural means or a quirk creation disease would spread like crazy through the masses. Added to that would be the famine as harbors and established trade routes fall. No one to work the fields, no one to harvest or distribute them. Money starts to lose meaning when the country backing it threatens to fall so the people buying and selling the food have turtled up. And as the people starve disease gets worse making the hunger worse in an ever worsening cycle until…. It ends. Weather through a healing quirk, an emerging warlord or mayor organizing the community, the chaos is held back. Things are… not fine. But better. And as things stabilize? Politics can begin. Trade, war, people simply being people. The world ended but it’s done that before. But this time? This time things are Different. Quirks change everything. What use is an army in the face of an aoe quirk. Why bother with a whole farming and irrigation system when a growth and water quirk can do the work of a thousand hours of labor. The problem? You need quirks for that. You know? The thing that’s been killing people. It’s a bit better now, with the low population meaning less kids and less wanton destruction and the prevalence of weaker quirked individuals having kids that don’t explode on contact with air. But that doesn’t solve the problem of your town not having anyone to insta-grow crops. But did you hear? The neighbors got one. They got a good one. And they have almost no defenses and winter is coming. And I mean. WE have a guy who shits dynamite. The result is obvious. War. Maybe not an Organized war. But war nonetheless. And with so many new and horrific ways of making insides outsides? Thank god YOU can turn leaves into fireballs. I mean, imagine if you DIDN’T have a powerful quirk? Sure you’d get by but you wouldn’t be Needed. At least until the next war when you’re a high priority target and get your ass sniped by some girl with slightly better eyesight.
So yeah. Lots of chaos, lots of war, lots of desire for quirked individuals but heavy casualties for powerful quirks. What to do when the other guy has better quirked people than you do? Give them a power boost, use the environment, be sneaky, any number of things that would direct tech, tactics, defense and manpower priorities. So that explains the weird tech stuff, it’s focused on rebuilding damage and boosting your own power. People are so caught up on strong quirks cause for who knows how long they were the only thing between you and The Enemyā„¢ļø. ā€œBut wait!ā€ I hear you say ā€œit’s stated that the army can’t use quirks!ā€ Well, guess what, those rules exist for a reason! After stuff settled down people probably didn’t want to deal with that hell again and had a new Geneva Convention. But when you can’t be Positive the other guy’s gonna hold to the rules you have to have some contingency’s. That’s where hero’s step in. Depudize those vigilantes running around and call them hero’s and people will smile and nod and wink knowingly at each over their new personal army. And if one guy does it you Know everyone else has to as well. That’s why when we get our view at the wider world in MHA manga (haven’t seen the movies so not sure there) the main forces that are offered to deal with Shigaraki are Hero’s, not the military (minus the US which was kinda weird on the separation between hero’s, police, and military but were all for dropping a couple nukes on Japan).
Now there are a couple holes in this, if everything went so poorly why do ā€œMikkey D’sā€, Japan, Egypt, and the USA still exist? Well, cause of a want for normality. If your shiny new nation wants to draw in and keep its people you want them to be happy, and what better way than to say YOU’RE the United States, not those other guys across the river. Same for McDonalds. No ones keeping up patents so when granduncle Thomas mentions an old restraint chain with such longing it’s a sure way to get some extra old customers by using an old name no one has laws protecting anymore. Also explains the weird shadow governments going on all over the place. Give the people the parliament they want so badly and keep all the real power under the table with a ā€œCommissionā€ and now everyone’s happy and you get less regulation!
Forgot where I was going with this but the idea grabbed my like a dog with a stolen pork chop and ran like it. (Edit: just remembered I just wanted to explain why we got such a wide array of quirks but weird concentrations of types and power scale. If it was just ā€œwhat’s a dominant gene and usefulā€ the world would be filled with intelligence, luck, and vitality quirks, not cosmetic)
Oh yeah, this also kinda sorta not really ties in to AFOs power set. Cause it’s? A little wonky? Like, the ā€œsimplestā€ quirk commented on in the show is Kirishimas hardening, which is someone’s whole body sharpening into thin polygons and being able to tank bullets, which is admittedly a bit simpler compared to others but still pretty complex mechanically. But AFO? Throws out his quirks names when using them and has shit like ā€œair canonā€ and ā€œforce enhancement X2ā€. Like buddy? Is that an early generation quirk? What have you been Doing these past hundred years??? But that simplicity is part of the design! Easy to learn, easy to stack, easy to keep track of. None of that ā€œmaster the elementsā€ nonsense, just get good at smacking folk. Brings up the question of what he Does with all those quirks he stole but those can be given to underlings to deal with. Slap that stupidly complex fire quirk on that guy who really wants to commit arson and you get a loyal ally AND it’s not your problem anymore. After a bit of studying of course, no sense letting something valuable go for the sake of a little loyalty.
Now, back to cloning! I told you I’d get back to it. Spent my creativity on the Lore but I still got some ideas.
I imagine that duplicating a quirk probably eats away at the quality. Might be dealing with a weaker quirk, stronger drawbacks, or random mutations that risk acting like a first generation quirk. Not to mention each quirk is unique and has its own complications. Stockpile quirk? Takes forever. Emitter quirk? Gotta train it up and it’s probably a bit unwieldy compared to the original. Mutation quirk? God no, you think AFO is gonna touch that?! He has Standards! (And bigotry but shhhh). But a sentient quirk? Something that has its own will? Now That gets interesting. Probably ends up depending on How the quirk works though. Slap some sentience onto an existing quirk like the vine girls hair? Probably just a mutation quirk with feelings and some potential brain damage from degraded quirk gene. Something along the lines of IF though? That gets into the weeds.
IF has to get power from Something. It can be emotions, belief, perseverance, food, anything works as long as it ties into a drawback. Every quirk has one and it acts as the basis to figuring out how they tick. Not sure how you have them planned or if you do but since you said they can be changed by their hosts belief in what they should be I’m gonna say their drawback here is a mix of their distance limit and reliance on belief (originally their hosts belief in them, but Now? Without a close connection to their host they gotta get their energy from their own belief and the belief of those around them.). And as time passes? As their old connections forget them and the only other person in their life is AFO? Who’s already trying to shape them? Fun times.
As for any possible clones? Probably gonna be dealing with heightened drawbacks and some instability. Hard to be fully coherent when the core of your very being isn’t damaged, but created Wrong. Twisted in a way it was never supposed to. Different in a way only seen in those with mutations (Dabis fire but cold resistant skin) or from the early days of quirks (harmful to their host or themselves).
So what does that leave us with? INTRODUCING! Detective 2.0! Blob Edition! It’s like if you took a picture of IF and squinted a bit. Slightly blurry and deformed from a lack of self image, they’re IF! They’re Themselves! But not. They can be anyone and anything and Have to be that, but they can’t, they can just get a sloppy copy of what they want.
Other potential iterations include, bit are not limited to, (medication side effects voice): idea devourer (sustains itself by eating concepts from host), host shaper (shapes Their host based on Their belief), Blob (slurry version of IF, can’t keep a solid form but try’s their best), Mixer! (Mix of every idea and form they take, far more mentally unstable than the rest), Emotion! (Takes a form based on their hosts emotions or desires rather than belief, more maluable but far more likely to go rogue based on a whim) cosmic horror! (Belief and ideas are finicky and vague, this version doesn’t have a nice in-build moderator that keeps their form human, expect uncanny valley at best and eyes bleeding ā€œoh my god why it neon!ā€ at worse) And So Much More! Call Now! (Please don’t clone a clone, the labs been wrecked so many times this week and the doctor’s getting pissed)
Also to answer your question feel free to use anything, just tag me when you finish so I can see how stuff turns out cause IF sounds like a real fun character
My WIP fairy hates me. But like... in that homoerotic Nemesis sorta way, I swear.
Cease an desist, woman! (I scream into the void, knowing damn well she, being my own brain, SHAN'T.)
Cause NOW? Now I CAN NOT stop Pondering, with a Capitol P, the life of a Sentient Quirk. The trials and tribulations. The indignities and sufferings. Countless micro-aggression and out right dismissal of sentience. The reduction to the EXTENSION of another.
You are not a person.
You are JUST a Quirk.
An organ that "thinks" itself separate, in the way knees spasm when struck just so. The child you are attached to just needs to get better CONTROL of you. Your words and actions are actually THEIRS. You are simultaneously an unruly animal and strange adult, not allowed near other peoples children.
Why are you trying to follow this four year old into their school? Why are you SITTING out side a pre-school? Are you stalking that child?
You are a grown adult. Connected to a random Japanese child.
The child is expected to "control" you.
Punished if they do not.
No one is listen to EITHER of you, as you try to explain the situation. The child is upset, scared, and does not have the emotional maturity to understand why you are not to blame. All they can understand is that you appeared and everything became stressful and "bad". They started getting punished. Have to share their room now.
Do you even have rights? If you get hurt, get MAIMED, what will happen to you? Can you hold a job? Own land? Open a bank account? Fuck it! Can you have a RELATIONSHIP?
If you went out RIGHT NOW and punched a purse thief, would the FOUR YEAR OLD be arrested?
If the kid grows up, becomes a hero, and you do secretarial work... does his license cover you? If YOU wanted to become a Hero, would he be your hero partner? Could he technically sit in a corner and let you work?
If no one could TELL, over an internet connection, then surely that should prove SOMETHING? Right?
And! The question NO ONE ever seems to ask!
Could..... could you LEAVE? Do people have the right to force you back? If you don't WANT to be some kid's Quirk? You're sentient. If, unlike Dark Shadow, you are not PHYSICALLY connected, but tethered by distance?
Could. You. Leave?
Just "Allright, I'm out. The way you're all treating me is unacceptable. See ya never." And walk out the door? You'd be able to gain distance as the kid grew older. As long as you hid? You be homeless, without papers, but free.
A sentient Quirk means free will. Means you don't HAVE to do shit. It's like being born with a twin, not a slave. And that Twin does NOT have to put up with your bullshit. YOU are the one asking THEM to work with you, after all.
This? Of course, ALSO just ABSOLUTELY BEGS the question? What if that four year old grew up to be a BASTARD? Just... NO self reflection or empathy. Everything is everyone else's fault, always. And they want a NEW Quirk. One that won't question them.
So they sell theirs, buy a new one. Probably die off screen trying to throw it around.
What happens to you THEN? Pain, obviously. Like... massive, massive amounts of pain. You ARE a Quirk. You're being ripped out by your metaphorical roots. By the NERVE ENDINGS. But? Do you... for lack of a better word, "reset"?
Are you back infront of "your" person? Or do you stay, safely, where you are? Both would be fascinating, honestly. Because I imagine All for One? Does NOT get sentient quirks often. If at all.
They'd sooner kill themselves.
After all, if your choice is "kill yourself and your beloved twin" or "be ripped apart and watch them die horribly, then be used to go against everything you both stood for"? You weep and promise to make it fast.
Then you make it fast.
It's... really annoying, I'd imagine, for All for One. It's not necessarily that he WANTS a sentient Quirk. But they are INTERESTING. And he likes interesting.
He also likes owning things that can't leave. Ever.
So of course he'll poke and prod at the Quirk. It will inevitably be a nightmare, either way. Because EVERY Sentient Quirk has some degree of communication aspect to it. Just because the original holder never figured it out, doesn't mean HE can't.
And while your range may now be much, MUCH bigger? Because the fucker is strong as hell? How useful is that... if he can talk to you when ever HE feels like it? Day or night. 24/7.
And that's assuming you don't reset. God help you if you reset. Because THEN your STANDING infront of, most likely, pre-face-smash All for One. Who's looking at you like he just won a Mildly Interesting Prize and you would PREFER HE NOT. But what are you gonna do?
Walk out again?
You think THAT'S an option here?!
I mean... you can and do TRY. But, obviously not. So like? Fuck ā„¢.
THEN the question becomes? Would YOU go to Tarturaus. Are you a hostage? Or an accomplice? You have the same level of power and authority as a cat, deliberately knocking pages of tables and cups to the floor, but... like? Oooooh~ oh yeah! THATS gonna slow him down! His empire crumbles beneath the sheer MIGHT of your petty inconveniences!
*trips the doctor again*
Fffffuck you.

DPxDC Prompt: PokƩmon Au
@stealingyourbones
@im-totally-not-an-alien-2
@new-revenant
pokemon au Dp x Dc
most of the ghost stuff is different, because its now the Fenton's studying The Ghost typing, which, they are now morally correct. due to studying it and have machines processing the Ghost Type Infinity energy, they've had alot of ghost types born from their machines, and alot collect around their home. Danny has developed a Ghost type alignment in his Aura(aura having wave lengths with infinity energy, which affects some traits a person has, like water type alignment are good at swimming and holding their breath) due to his parents studys letting the G.T. infinity energy radiating through the house influencing his aura development while it was developing.
the Fenton are the local professors in town, but mostly pass out Ghost, Dark, Fairy, and Psychic types due to their studys being connected to them.
When they find Danny has a Ghost Type Alignment, with secondary Ice and Psychic, they give him a Dreept they had been previously studying for his starter pokemon.
Jazz has previously been on a journey, with a Teddiursa, she caught psychic types and many pokemon good for Emotional support and therapy due to her developing her like of Psychology during her journey, she made it to 4 gym badges before deciding to head home for studying, splitting up with her traveling companion, Harleen Quinzel, a friend who shared similar likes. However, she would later be kidnapped and tortured by Joker, eventually becoming Harley Quinn, her pokemon have been confiscated, and given to Jazz, to keep them safe.
DC is still a heavy part here.
due to pokemon and pokemon league being a thing, Civilians will help apprehend criminals, due to pokemon training originally being a Crime deterrent. this has also turned away multiple invasions. also, Apocalypse(can't remember jow to spell that name) was destroyed long ago by Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, so no Darkseid. isn't it great when God's actually do their jobs.
starters: Danny with Dreepy, Sam with Bounsweet, Tucker with Togedimaru, and Jazz with Teddiursa.
when Danny goes on his journey at 14, he, Sam, Tucker, and Jazz, head out to travel Unova. Jazz here to mentor and chaperone. they ran into multiple incidents involving poachers and evil teams, and assisted Heroes, like many trainers. The League actually has a meeting every few weeks to talk about some of the notable trainers that helped them, and even watch the League Tournaments as team bonding. Batman is more approachable here, and he and the batfam use suits that have tech that allow them to use attacks, primarily based on the closest pokemon to their animals. regular animals still exist.
Diana actually uses Burst(from the manga, Pokemon ReBurst), which fuses a human and pokemon. She typically does it with a Braviary, but her people also can call upon Ho-oh or Lugia to preform Burst in times of need. Shes still a demi-goddess, this is mostly for situations where she needs a change of tactics or a boost in strength.
the DP team find a old Temple, one that was recently cleaned out and collapsed, when some ghost types were beckoning for help, after clearing the way they found a strange woman who'd look like she was trapped for weeks, she looked half feline pokemon, much like Killer Krok in Gotham.
Barbara Ann Minerva had been obsessed with archeology from a young age, sense she learned of all the pokemon that were artificially made by ancient civilizations and that Fossils could be revived. But while she was interning for a Professor on a exploration if a temple, she and the Professor were backstabbed, the professor killed and she shot through the back, thankfully not through the spine. They had blew up the pathway, Barbara was stuck, her mentor was dead, and she was likely to starve. she returned her pokemon so they wouldn't have to worry of starving, and started crying. her crying angered something. The Temple she was in was the resting place of the Legendary pokemon Cheeralah (chi-rah-lah), an Electric Fighting type, a humanoid and feminine cheetah pokemon, with bandages wrapped around her legs, arms, and chest, and Bronze markings along her body. Some human was whining in her Temple, she was angry, so she cursed Barbara, turning her into what was basically a Human Cheeralah hybrid.
when the Dp Team made it to Barbara, Cheeralah was angry enough that she showed up, along with two Zeraora. A Raid Battle occurred, with much struggle, from all the pokemon one Danny's, Sams, tuckers, Jazzs, Barbara, and the Professors teams, all three legends were caught. and then Danny accidently caught Barbara.
Gotham, the spirit, became a legendary pokemon along time ago, and still has no clue how to assist with everything, she became some variant of Lunala, but a Dark/Ghost type, and she just can't seem to exit the spiritual plan, which is probably the doing of some wizard or something to prevent city spirits that became pokemon from running around causing havoc. She eventually breaks out when Jason was kidnapped. She looks like a darker Lunala with a more pointed tail, she has a form change that makes her look like dawn wing necrozma, but not entirely, it does look like necrozma parts, maybe even make it an artificial form change made by Bruce, similar to the enhancement equipment Jessie and James sometimes use on their pokemon, maybe even a special batmobile that attaches power ranger style with a ride pokemon saddle part for Bruce. Called: Gothmala.
Something Similar to Metropolis, who became a Variant of Solagaleo, a Steel/Fairy type, who just watches from the sidelines as the superfamily protects his city, but his appreciation can be felt by the super family due to their lack of resistance to supernatural power. Maybe make its presence capable of breaking down green kryptonite and its radiation. Maybe Clark, taking a note out of Bruce's book, makes a armor mode for it using some Kryptonian tech. Called: Metgaleo.
Maybe make some of the other city spirits similar to regular pokemon, like like paradox pokemon, like star city(thats green arrows place right?) Is a Decidueye, but it has a pair of crossbow like structures floating beside it instead of being able to make a bow string, due to not being a grass type. Ghost/fighting type.
And in Amity Park, the Fenton's research has caused Amity Park's city spirit to develope into a pokemon, a variant of Hoopa, due to the form change and Desiree's mischief with wishes. A black and green Unbound form. Ghost/Fairy type.
The Fenton's also accidently made a Variant of Type:Null from digital blue prints and such of the usual species, combined with research files on Giratina and the distortion world, and went through the development program used to process and make Porygon, and went through the Transfer machine. Its built like a mildly serpentine Type:null, no hind legs, the head piece being more shaped like a Giratina head piece. Normal/Ghost type, with the primary type being changeable with the disks. Built like a Lindwyrm. The first one is studied by the Fentons and Aether to make sure its Healthy and stable, Danny is even brought over to help calm it due to his compatibility to Ghost types. Name, Type:Ghoul, evolved/unsealed form called Spectvally.
Cheeralah, The War Pokemon. a Legendary Electric and Fighting type. Cheeralah were once worshipped as Gods of protection and purity, but worshipped members began to enjoy fighting and conflict while protecting the innocent. Zeraora are believed to be lesser incarnations born from Cheeralah lust for battle being so great that they forcefully removed it and it became a pokemon.
(-Legendary pokemon(God or mythical types) can turn into human form.
-pokephilia might be a partially accepted thing here? Regular Supernatural species still exist like in regular DC, so maybe. So possible human pokemon hybrids running around, so laws about catching those types of people are probably a thing.
-possible Ultra-space shenanigans with alternate timelines, different dimensions, Pocket Dimensions, separate universes, etc. Aka Crossovers with different franchises.)

Note
i really like how you analyze things you know how hard it is to find people who can criticize things properly? Very lol but I guess I'm guilty of that myself but I really like the analysis you've given about MHA. I kind of have a question even though it might be a lame one? But what's your take on the female characters of MHA? I'm personally disappointed by them because... I don't know they have potential yet haven't shown any sort of real depth that makes me really root for them. Does that make sense?
It makes perfect sense, actually. In the simplest, most brutal way possible, there's nothing actually there to root for, though I hasten to mention that's not actually their fault; they have potential, like you said, plenty of it. Hori's female characters have just, broadly, been abandoned on the side of road, like he has so many others (Class B, literally the entire school of Shiketsu, who has a nigh Todoroki level character, to name a few), but it's just that much worse because it's all of them.
Seriously, off the top of my head, the last time a female who isn't Toga or Mirko did anything really relevant was... when Uraraka talked down the crowd? If I'm being honest, (and minor manga spoilers here, if you're not up to date) Hori's about to have all the female characters involved in a fight in the manga, so maybe something will happen there, but to be even more honest, there's something about that whole scenario when the main members of the fights are all female that screams 'catfight' in the worst kind of way. I know they just joined a bunch of others, but how much do you bet that it'll end up being Toga, Uraraka, and maybe Tsu again somehow?
Also, I'm going to note Toga and Miruko for later in that they have special issues, but I'm on a roll here.
The potential is there. The way that the ones in 1A alone could be more relevant are broad; Mina's acid could be used in ways like water attacks are in Naruto, for example. Give me an acid dragon, Hori, that sounds awesome. Kyoka's sounds are strong enough to shatter the ground, with some support tech, yet she can't get something to focus them, make them hit harder? You know, how Bakugou somehow does with his explosions, and, like, his fingers, somehow, yet you have all this support gear right there. Concentrate all that noise down to foot of area and it'd hit like a truck. Momo is literally the poster child for wasted potential here, along with how Hori just left all the women behind: she's a recommended student, which comes with this built in hype of 'this one, this one is going to be good'. And... she never is. Out of the all the stuff we've seen her make, has a gas grenade of some kind never came to her? One with sleeping gas maybe? Or how about a tranq gun? And don't tell me about Japan and their gun laws; Snipe exists. (On a personal note, do you know what I yearn to see? A little cartoon or comic or something of Momo going, "I'm going to beat you with the power of friendship. And this gun I found!" Can you imagine? She's so serious, so refined, then she says that, dead ass serious, while pulling out one out of her arm??? I laugh every time I think about it. I really do.) Momo is scary in a way lot of the characters aren't, and it's not for her raw power, but her flexibility, and how she can target weaknesses with it. Weaknesses like breathing. The thing is that she's just not allowed to use it. Seriously, they struggle so much to try and put Gigantomachia to sleep, yet a few arc later she pulls out this giant ass machine to drug up Izuku, and it's just so... overcomplicated, how many steps they're taking to make her less useful. The tools are there. The potential is right the fuck there. These two things I've mentioned alone are simpler than some of the things she's made before, and the narration has made it clear that she's more than smart enough to think of these basic ass solutions. She's just not allowed to be, well, that useful. And Asui, honestly, is an interesting case. On the face of it, Frog is kind of a weak Quirk, but Mirko exists. In all brutal honesty, Asui has the same kind of Quirk as Mirko, it's just the less sex appealing version. And if Mirko could be a top hero on Rabbit, why can't Asui with Frog?
And that's the other thing. Out of all the female cast, we have a small handful of relevant people, like Mirko and Toga, and all of them seem to embody some sort of sex appeal. Midnight, before she was killed off off screen, was a joke character that got more development in a spin off in her entire run, and was literally a walking bondage costume. Toga is the token female for the League, but the reason she has so much focus is that she's popular, and she's popular because she's, as I've heard someone put it, some kind of Yandere otome character. Uraraka is the Hinata to Izuku's Naruto, and so has some One True Waifu energy. Nana's built like a brick house. Mirko is literally a bunny girl. These things? These things that people find attractive, and judging by his sketches, I'd expect that Hori is one of those people. Moreover, almost all of them have their characters defined by this one attractive quality, if only because they aren't allowed to show literally anything else.
It gets worse when you realize how many things happen just for that, for the sex appeal: Toga needs to be naked for her Quirk. Actually, this is an oddly common 'flaw': Toru has no clothes for her hero costume. She is literally running around naked. Momo's descriptions all talk about how she exposes skin to use her Quirk better. Mirio exists. Mirio literally phases out his clothes, but because he's a man, and thus not attractive, his costume is made of his hairs, somehow, and so phases with him and he never accidently flashes anyone. Hmm, UA. I wonder who else could use something like that. This is so mysterious.
That's not even mention how Mirko keeps getting brutalized like a toy owned by a particularly careless child, and by the way it keeps happening, the way it focuses on her pain, it seems Hori is into that? The worst part of that, I think, is if he had just done that once, he probably could have gotten away with it, and no one would have noticed. But it keeps happening. Mirko has no limbs now, Hori what the fuck?
So, yeah, Anon. I'm disappointed in the female characters too. I'm disappointed that Hori never gave them a chance.

ok I’ve been stuck in quarantine for 6 weeks and here are some jjk nuggets that I’ve been mulling over
I’m gonna talk about:
Mai and the weird tradw;fe bullshit the zenin clan’s got going on
The fact that Yuji used to have zero/zilch/nada friends
How i don’t think Gojo can leave Japan I literally just saw him in Kenya
Is Nobara in credit card debt?????
manga spoilers below, but this is mostly me speculating
Mai & being stuck in a fundamentalist hell hole
So we know that Mai was forced to attend Jujutsu Tech after Maki left. We know that she would have rather lived a quiet, domestic, and forgettable life. We know that she hated everyone that bent the course of her short life.
Her technique allows her to make something out of nothing, and it’s usually used as a last ditch effort. It echoes her character arc and it is very very sad.
Maki acted as a lightning rod for criticism. She worked the hardest, she wanted to be seen, and she had a lot to prove. But she wasn’t doing any of this for Mai’s sake.
I think that the rift between them formed gradually. The louder Maki was, the easier it was for Mai to sink into the background. Understandably, I don’t think that Mai ever intervened when she saw her sister being reprimanded/abused. She tried to help in her own small ways at first, cutting up fruit like their mom used to do. This didn’t last. She came to learn that avoiding Maki was the only way to preserve her social standing.
She remembers how the warnings her mother gave her; to never complain or scowl no matter how vulgar the boys get; to never upstage them during training; to show Maki up wherever she can; that her reputation would be ruined by the smallest scar; that her father’s reputation would sink if she couldn’t produce children of quality. Mai knows that her body doesn’t belong to her and she hates it.
Mai has never considered a reality where Maki leaves. When the rug is pulled out from under her, she falls. She barely has any skills she can rely on, and scrambles to catch up. All of her inadequacies are suddenly on display. People look at her differently, like all they’re waiting for her skin to mar and her value to plummet. But what can she do? Mai Zenin cannot be a proper woman and a proper sorcerer at the same time. She doesn’t really want to be either.
Utahime understands this, and Momo does too. They encourage her to focus on long range techniques; to stay out of sight and keep tricks up her sleeve. They meet up at cafes and talk about their futures. Mai doesn’t want to run away like Maki did. She just wants to graduate, meet someone nice with pretty hair, move far, far away from Kyoto, and never have any children.
Also has anyone else noticed the kids at Kyoto Jujutsu Tech are like…. A little extra fucked up. I feel like they should have a student union or something those kids are way too stressed out.
Yuji didn’t have any friends. Like none.
I’m paraphrasing some of the stuff i put in the tags of this post! It’s mostly talking about the first couple of chapters.
I’m not saying he was unpopular or anything, but I don’t think Yuji’s ever had a chance to form a deeper/meaningful relationship with someone before he got to Jujutsu Tech.
I know it’s a weird thing to say since he’s so authentic and outgoing, but he just didn’t have the time. He made his Grandpa his first priority, and really, truly felt a deep responsibility to make sure he was cared for and comfortable.
In middle school, I feel like people kept inviting him to things, but he said ā€œnoā€ so often that they eventually stopped asking. He doesn’t really harbor any resentment towards them though, which is kind of refreshing?? Like he doesn’t expect anyone to show up for him. He’s so used to being independent that he doesn’t even think to miss emotional support.
No one really calls him after he transfers schools either. No one checks up on him or asks him how he’s doing. I don’t think he remembered to give Setsuko and Iguchi from the Occult Club his number. If anyone could just up and leave to go to Jujutsu Tech, it would be a kid like this who doesn’t have anyone looking out for him. Thank god they got to him before the culling game.
I think that’s what made the whole Junpei situation hit as hard as it did. Yuji knows what it’s like to not have friends. He knows what it’s like to grieve alone, and he’s able to empathize when someone is lashing out in pain. To be honest I felt like they had the most genuine friendship in the series!! I’m never going to be ok!!!!!!!
Also one more tidbit: Setsuko and Iguchi are PERSONALLY escorted out of the culling game by Kenjaku. The kids who knew him for like what? Less than a semester?? It really goes to show that even the smallest interactions can have a positive impact on someone’s life. I mean they found the first finger so it could also be related to that but they were really nice to Yuji. Love them.
I really love Yuji’s character arc like… he’s just a good person. The Higuruma arc?? Relatable content chefs kiss I’m gonna reread it later.
I don’t think Gojo can vacation outside of Japan
Well, technically he could, but the thought of it makes him anxious.
He knows what his presence means to Jujutsu society. If he left for even a weekend the higher ups might get cocky and expedite an execution. A special grade curse could appear in the middle of Shimokitazawa. Someone he knows might disappear again.
He’s thought about experimenting with teleportation overseas - somewhere close like Jeju Isalnd in South Korea - but it’s a little risky. There are some variables due to Tengen’s barrier that might interfere with the technique. It might be fine both ways, or it might only work one way, or it might fail at the barrier’s border. He wants to avoid his teleportation failing over the ocean, or even worse, wasting 5 hours at the airport trying to get a flight back home.
However he DOES have a passport. He got it to create extra work for the higher ups. It’s someone’s job to check his visa status daily. When he’s bored he applies for travel visas just to fuck with them.
When someone (especially Nanami) goes abroad, he always asks if they brought him a souvenir. Surprisingly, they usually bring back some local sweets. They know that he doesn’t really go on vacation and they feel bad for him.
If he could go somewhere, it would either be India or France (for dessert purposes)
Is Nobara in Credit Card Debt???
Ok so I don’t know what they’re paying these kids but I DO KNOW what it’s like to move to a big city with a lot of designer stores. Sometimes I walk past them just to feel something.
I’m gonna guess they get a pretty high stipend, like $60k USD per year? And they don’t have to pay rent or tuition, so that’s purely spending money.
So, she moves to Tokyo from the country with a big ol paycheck. She’s gonna do some shopping, and buy some high quality basics like jackets, shoes, makeup, etc. If she walks up to checkout and they offer her 20% off to sign up for a store credit card, she’s going to say yes every single time.
Just don’t check your bank account it’s fine!!
Until she gets her first credit card statements in the mail. How did she sign up for 12 different credit cards? How did she spend $2000 in one week??? Why is the interest rate so high???
She asks Yuji for help, since he’s actually pretty good at budgeting. However, He’s never seen a bill with this many zeroes, so he called Nanami instead. He tells him to come immediately, it’s an emergency.
Surprisingly, Nanami really does treat this like an extreme financial emergency. (He also used to have a bit of shopping problem. When he started his job in finance, it was all designer all the time in an attempt to keep with with his clients. It took him a while to get out of that hole)
He consolidates all of the debt onto one good cashback credit card with a generous sign on bonus, and helps her come up with a plan to pay it all off. He also teaches them about the importance of investing in staple pieces, and warns them about the peril of lifestyle creep.
I wonder if they have like? Any sort of financial literacy courses for these kids to take? I’m so curious about what their daily schedule looks like. What’s the highest level of math they have to take?? Gojo is their only teacher right???
Anyways thanks for reading this far! I hope you have a good day!!

Panda explanation
This was supposed to be a response to @megumifushiā€˜s anon who was confused about Panda but I can’t find the post anymore lol.
Manga spoilers ahead.
Tumblr media
Panda is a second-year student at Jujutsu Tech. He’s assignedĀ ā€œsemi-grade 2″.
Despite being a cursed corpse made by Yaga (ā€œabrupt-mutation cursed corpseā€), he possesses intelligence and is capable of having feelings. His intelligence is proven by the fact that he was able to think ahead of Mechamaru.
He thinks human beings are gross and their principles are weird to him, but he still respects them as a species.
Panda does not have a heart but instead, he has three confirmed cores: the balanced Panda core, the power type Gorilla core of his big brother and an unknown type core of his big sister, which was destroyed by Mechamaru. (I speculate that it’s a defense type core = ā€œshy big sisterā€. And we also do not know how much time or the conditions a core needs to recover.)
Furthermore, Panda can fake his cores’ locations by using cursed energy manipulation, therefore successfully tricking Mechamaru into thinking that Panda was hit fatally.
Note: Normal cursed corpses only have a single core that is located at the spot where the strongest concentration of cursed energy is. They do not have the ability to think or feel. An example: Kathy (the cursed doll who attacked Yuji during his interview) or the cursed doll that was used during the Movie Appreciation Training.
We know some stuff about the Gorilla core: The Drumming Beat attack is aĀ ā€˜technique’ that makes each hit resonate, his specialty. However, itĀ ā€œgoes wild with cursed energyā€, so Panda cannot use it for a long time in a fight as it uses up a lot of cursed energy.
What makes Panda special?
Tutorial on how to create a cursed corpse (chapter 147):
An independent cursed corpse is created by replicating a soul’s information by using physical information. In essence, you use something physical (DNA maybe?) to somehow recreate the soul’s information.
Afterwards, you insert the soul’s information you have created into the cursed corpse’s (premade, physical? I imagine it to be some kind of glassy orb?) core. The same has to be applied to the other two cores. There will be a total of three inhabited cores. However, there is a catch. Those three souls need to be compatible with one another.
The three soulsĀ must constantly observe each other, so they will be stabilized and a unique main personality will emerge (ā€give rise to self-awarenessā€ in the manga). I believe Panda talking formally to Yaga when he was a baby was a direct effect of the instability of the souls in the first stages.
After three months, the cursed corpse will have fully independent cursed energy to use freely = self-supporting cursed corpse that doesn’t drain out its creator’s energy.
I strongly believe out of every independent cursed corpse Yaga ever made, Panda came out the best. And it’s most likely that Panda is also his first ever made.
As for the ā€œabrupt-mutation cursed corpseā€ thing, I think that’s because Panda has the ability to transform into Gorilla and ??? mode.
___
I’ll post a separate theory about how Panda was made.

OVA 6
There is an English Sub out for Season 2 OVA 6 so if you haven’t seen it yet don’t click below:
The OVAs are sweet. When I used to watch anime after the whole thing came out I would usually skip over filler and stuff like this, but while we’re waiting so long between seasons it can be nice to see those familiar faces again.Ā
First Impressions
There are some OVAs that I really really like, this one was pretty flat over-all. Not a lot to read into, not a lot of interesting character interactions or funny moments. It’s a very SAFE OVA. It’s cute. The animation is typical of Season 2 (not great compared to Season 1) nothing spectacular has changed. Except, I think if Saitama’s regular sneezes could cause as much damage as a sneeze here caused he might have more problems.
Fun things about this OVA
Sonic being cared for by Class S HeroesĀ
Tumblr media
This moment was precious. All the heroes, (expect the aloof Saitama and the merciless Genos,) are taking care of Sonic. And sonic is just likeĀ ā€œwut? well I guess I can work this into my plan. So I don’t have to acknowledge my need for this kind of kindness, support, and validation from peers.ā€ I mean, just look at the face of concern Zombie man is giving him. And Darkshine, always sticking to his morals. I suddenly want more people to be soft with Sonic now he must be sooo touch starved.Ā
The Classic Saitama, Genos, & Sonic Dynamics
Tumblr media
I saw this out of context before I saw the episode but in the episode I had to laugh. Of course, Genos. This look, from some angle, is exactly what anyone would see if they dared to try to sneak up on Saitama and Genos while they’re together. Especially while Saitama is enjoying his ā€˜precious time he uses to do nothing’.Ā
Tumblr media
But I didn’t realize Saitama would join in with his characteristically unperturbed expression. Saitama really does remind me of a cat sometimes. A cat that can live in the same place you live, never even glancing up at what’s happening (the weirdest, loudest, most dramatic shit can be happening) until the one day he looks up to stare for a few seconds, process the information, only to go back to grooming or napping or whatever, AS IF NOTHING HAD EVER HAPPENED.Ā
Teamwork
Tumblr media
Finally, This group shot. This group of weirdos who just showed themselves to be a greater threat to themselves (and the surrounding property) than the monster they came together in an uncharacteristically coordinated team effort shot to wrap up the episode.Ā
Saitama must have held back a little at the end (and Genos to for that matter, I mean all of them really) or there wouldn’t be anything left.Ā
Also,l I got to love how god-damn sassy Genos looks here. Like,Ā ā€˜I have been waiting to incinerate something since Sonic showed up, and now this rude-ass bear is interrupting us and I’m going to pretend to be upset that this is happening but I’m not that sad.’
It’s too bad that CE isn’t being more helpful in this scene. He should have at least had a piece of tech or something, I can’t imagine manga CE just standing and pointing when an enemy arrives.Ā
Tumblr media
Also apparently Sonic switched sides of the screen? I guess with how fast he is they don’t have to worry too much about visual continuity? Guess he just wanted to buddy up to his pal Genos. Seems like the animators specifically made an effort to leave Sonic shirtless as long as possible this episode?Ā
Also, apparently Genos got his pent up sassy energy out because now he’s back to being his typicalĀ ā€˜stiff as a board’ self.Ā
Flashy Flash Mc Fabulous
Tumblr media
Finally, I’d already seen this a few times before. I knew Flash was going to be in this episode (and I tried to keep out of the spoilers) so when I saw Sonic show up I wondered how they were going to handle that (I got a little irrationally excited I guess). But no. This is. Quite literally. All that Flashy Flash does the entire episode.Ā

Your DR magic AU, hand it over 🤲
Okay I have two other anons and I’m just gonna split the character ideas among the three asks. I don’t quite have a plot thought out, and most of these characters’ concepts have only existed in my head up until now...bare with me skdjksjfkd
Mm I talked about them briefly in Prom’s ask? But here’s a more in-depth thing of the THH fighting styles.
Makoto is a mage-type. (I used fighter, support, and mage to describe the various adventurer types it’s temporary just roll with it) Again, he can’t really hold magic for very long? He’s got a large mana reserve but it’s hard to activate and harder to control, so he’s currently working on mastering the little bullets. In the future, I imagine large barrages of bullets would sort of circle around him like they would in the barrel of a gun.
He probably got in accidentally? I’m not entirely sure about this, but I think there’s an entrance exam for Reserve Courses and he was probably forced in on Komaru’s behalf for some reason.
He was basically running the entire time until the very end when he panicked and suddenly the entire field was wiped clean from him waving his arm. HPA saw that, decided that he was worth training, and put him into the Main Course. He doesn’t feel very good about getting in that way, but HPA isn’t exactly empathetic like he is. Again this is like one of three ways I think he could’ve gotten in with the rest of the cast because I’m indecisive skdjsjf
Kyoko is another mage-type, in general the Main Gangs of each game have various themes. THH’s trio has a magic theme, they all use magic. She doesn’t use a weapon, though I’m thinking her gloves act as a limiter of sorts?
As a general rule, more mana means less control, and being half-demon gives her a lot of it. Her gloves help her regulate her mana output so that she doesn’t use too much of it when attacking and tire herself out. Later in the timeline, I imagine there might be a scene where she takes them off and fights off some enemies to buy the rest of the class time to escape something? She would get trapped in the process, but I think this would happen after she’s worked with Makoto for a while and she would trust him enough to believe he would come back for her if she didn’t return.
Oh this isn’t related to her fighting style but on the topic of her being half-demon, that’s mainly because I thought it was boring for everyone to be human and I’m a big sucker for fantasy species so yeah. She’s a cambion.
She has purple-tinted skin, horns that curl up and are fairly close to her head, a thin pointed tail, pointed ears, her pupils are slitted, she’s got carnivore-style teeth, her nails are longer and sharper by default. Whenever she uses the full extent of her magic, her scleras turn dark purple and her irises turn white. Oh yeah her scars came from an accident she had when she was young where her magic got out of control and burned her hands. Her mom’s the demon by the way, for no particular reason, I just thought that the Kirigiris would stay human in this and I don’t know anything about her mom’s side of the family.
I just realized I never said Makoto’s race skdjks he’s human!! He and Komaru just happen to be a special case and have a lot of mana. Most other humans in this AU aren’t so lucky. (cough hinata cough cough)
Byakuya, again, uses magic. He’s the only one who uses a weapon in the Trio, he uses a staff specially made by the Togami family. He also knows how to use a sword and a bow.
I haven’t put too much thought into him, but I know for a fact that his adventuring outfit would have a big sweeping cape later in the timeline. In the beginning though, he just has a stupid expensive suit. The cape comes in later as he, Kyoko, and Makoto start to group up more and more.
I’ve decided that adventurers in this AU group up just as often as they go solo, and while Byakuya would initially be solo, he would deem Makoto and Kyoko strong enough to work with whenever they’re taking on a difficult job.
Groups would change to have matching designs the longer they’re partnered up, and capes/cloaks happen to be the THH Trio’s Thing, as in all three of them would have a cape/cloak of some sort. Byakuya because he’s pretentious, Makoto because he thinks it looks cool, and Kyoko because she uses the cloak for practical reasons like storing things and keeping a low profile when needed. Oh and Byakuya’s bloodline is of royal elven descent, their business is selling spellbooks, runestones, potions, reagents, any magical item you could think of.
Sayaka is a half-siren mage! She mostly uses charm and illusionary magic, as well as healing so that she can support her allies. Later on, she might learn water magic so she can actually deal damage as well. I haven’t decided on her weapon of choice, perhaps she uses a lyre or casts spells from a book. I’m also debating having her learn hand-to-hand combat instead of water magic?
I just like the idea of someone coming up and trying to challenge her, thinking they’ll beat her easily, and barely getting a hit in before she kicks their legs out from under them and tosses them over her shoulder like they weigh nothing. She deserves to take out people twice her size and be menacing, as a treat for the amount of disrespect she gets in the fandom. And I want her to take Leon down a peg because he definitely acts a little like a cocky frat boy sometimes.
Speaking of Leon, we’ve got our first fighter-type!!! I could have him use a baseball bat but that’s boring so I’m thinking he might utilize items as well as a weapon? Bombs or grenades that look like a baseball and explode on impact, baseballs that ignite when thrown and act as fire balls. Alas, I don’t think about him much so this is all just me throwing ideas to see what sticks.
Whatever the case, the main thing I know would happen is that he frequently gets help from Kazuichi and Miu because he just cannot for the life of him stop breaking his equipment. He’s reckless and rushes into battle and now that he doesn’t have Kanon to stop him from setting stuff on fire all the time, he gets detention a lot. (And no she isn’t into him like in canon, I refuse to acknowledge that she ever was.)
Chihiro......they can’t fight djfjsjfjjf. They specialize in making tech and weapons, and in the beginning, would mainly use robots that they programmed to support their allies. Though, they do end up training with Mondo, Sakura, and Aoi to help them become better at combat, and eventually they join everyone else on the front lines as a ranged fighter/support type.
Also, the robots would kinda follow them around like pets. Cute little guys that can also shoot lasers. The robots are powered by mana crystals and each one has a different personality and magic type! Sometimes they follow around different people, the electric one took a liking to Mondo and you’ll see it floating around while he works out. They’re buds.
On the topic of Mondo, he’s another fighter-type! He’s more hand-to-hand combat. A controlled berserker, if you will. Probably started out fighting guys in his hometown and progressed to clearing out monsters when Daiya got concerned about his temper? Perhaps. Maybe. I do not think about Daiya I apologize.
Oh wait hold on. I’m looking at his character art and he’s got a hammer.........it’s decided he uses a warhammer, the biggest one they’ve got, and it’s probably a mana-based weapon. Specifically electric. He and that lil robot wipe the battlefield with their opponents >:D
Taka is probably a fighter-type? I can’t for the life of me find where I read this, but apparently he’s really good at self-defense so I imagine he does hand-to-hand combat as well as sword-fighting for the Noble Paladin Aesthetic.
Hifumi was originally a mage-type, but upon second thought, I’m making him a support-type who uses items and potions and stuff! I like the idea of him making fun little bottles and potions themed after his favorite animes and mangas..........he also definitely helped everyone design their adventurer outfits. He’s the only reason that Makoto’s outfit isn’t boring as hell.
Celeste is, of course, a mage-type. She’s Miss Lolita of course I have to make her an ethereal magic user alright also I love her and I love mages let me have this skfjdkjf. As for her weapon, my first thought was her having playing cards that she throws HxH style?
Or she could summon goons to fight for her, playing into the whole loyal servant dream she has. They would be vaguely themed after the cards, so there would be a jack, king, queen, and joker, all of different magic types depending on the suit of the card she throws. Electric for a spade, fire for a heart, ice for a diamond, something along those lines.
I’m also considering having her little...finger armor thing? I’m thinking of having that cross into her magic, where she attacks with claw-like things formed out of mana. Of course she could also just. Use the cards to cast spells directly skdjksjfkhf
Sakura is definitely a fighter-type. Again, hand-to-hand style, but I imagine she’s more controlled and strategic than Mondo. I can’t see her using a weapon, so I guess she’s like one of the only characters to fight exclusively with fists.
Mukuro’s a ranged fighter-type, but she can also do melee. She uses magic-based guns, ones that shoot mana infused bullets. They have a variety of effects depending on the type of bullet and magic. (I’m not a gun person so take this with a grain of salt.)
Bullets that break apart might be laced with electric magic so that they can shock a target from several points, or fire magic if she’s aiming to start a fire quickly. Exploding bullets are usually used with fire magic, but she might switch to ice if she wants to create a barrage of ice shards for...some reason, I don’t know. There’s more combinations I could probably make, but I’m. Not here to spend an hour researching guns. Not right now at least, who knows what I’ll want info on in the future.
Mmmmmm I’m starting to lose patience here so forgive me for the shorter explanations. I might throw in a fun fact about them for ✨ flavor ✨
Junko’s a fighter/mage-type! She uses a scythe and laces the blade with magic. She could combine it with fire magic to create a flaming scythe and go nuts with it, or she could just channel general mana and slam the blade into the ground to create a big crack in the ground.
Theres about an 80% chance she gets several weapons later in the timeline. Her scythe, a spear, possibly a gun. Monokuma probably exists, I like to think Junko ran into a smarter monster and tamed it and kept it as a slightly feral pet.
Also, yes, she’s still a big adrenaline junkie who gets off on despair. If you see her fighting things she knows are out of her league, mind your business.....actually, call someone to help before she gets herself killed. Please.
I haven’t decided what Aoi will be just yet? I’m veering towards fighter/mage-type, she could use water magic and maybe a leg-based fighting style. Possibly judo or taekwondo. I.....do not have any ideas for her. However I do know that she and Sakura would have a bunch of combo moves together dkfjkejfkdjjd
Toko is a mage-type! She probably uses a book to cast spells from. Or just uses her hands. She would fight ranged, I don’t think she’d want to be up in the action. Too much stress for her, y’know? I
As for Syo, she fight differently than Toko! She technically uses dual swords, but the swords can also connect to create a giant pair of scissors. Again, this is just sort of a fun character thing, but she gets to hate Byakuya in this AU. They have arguments and get on each other’s nerves a lot, but I think the rest of the class usually separates them before anything serious happens.
At some point after Toko befriends Komaru, I like to think that Syo gets a proper fight scene with Byakuya where she rips into him. I don’t think Toko would want to hurt anyone though, even him, so Syo would probably leave him with a few minor cuts at most.
Afterwards, I think Byakuya would quiet down with the insults with Naegi and Kyoko’s requests. (Well. Naegi asked him to try and be nicer because he was worried that they might fight again. Kyoko just bluntly told him that he needed to stop being a jerk and start considering everyone else’s feelings.)
Skfksjfkdh ah. I also like to think Komaru and Toko were initially partnered up by HPA for a job. They were assigned to deal with a couple of school kids wreaking havoc on a nearby city with some monsters they semi-tamed?
But after finishing the job, they decided to partner up permanently on their own. They probably have a few combo moves that Komaru came up with, Toko tweaked them to make them actually possible with their skill set and weapons.
Hiro is...possibly a mage/support-type? He’s probably a bit cowardly and freaks out when on the front lines, but he can use a crystal ball to attack from afar. I’m also considering giving him tarot cards so that he can toss them and attack from several points at once?
Or the ball could shatter at some point during the story and he could just roll with it and spread the shards out during battle to attack from several points at once. They could also be used to create a magic cage of sorts, like electric fence but only electricity.
Okay that’s everybody oh my god. I have plenty more stuff about this au, this isn’t even half of it trust me lmao. I’m sorry about this being so long I didn’t realize it’d be this wordy!!!!!

You mentioned a human companion thats roomates with Mirage? Are there any other human companions or did you just scrap that concept?
The humans are still there! It's just that I haven't mentioned them much so far because they are still under development.
There will be many humans, but so far these four are the most important. I apologize for mobile users, but I'm away from my computer atm so no read more :(
((Important: please let me know if I drew them wrong. I'm not used to drawing people of different ethnicities, so if I made mistakes like making their skin tone too bright etc please tell me so!))

Brier the kitsune time for his thoughts and fun facts.
Trigger warning: mild kinky, kinda angsty, fic time is finally living in Dear 'wife's' house.
As you know he's a shy stalker but once he works up the courage he takes the week that she visits her family and moves in, thankfully she has a spare bedroom for his tech set up.
'wife' comes home to him cooking to the best he can, (which is very good, only yan that can cook.). She just kinda stands there looking at him as he's just swaying his tails. (Nine in total but combines in to one really fluffy one, max fluff.).
As a sorry for moving in on her without warning, he pays for rent and food, she pays utilities. Which saves her lots. Once she finds out he works and Is willing to let her play with his tail(s) as stress relief that's all, he lives there now.
Draw back he rents the three units, one on either side and the one below just so not to disturb the neighbours, eventually tech set up gets put in one of units. Because if she has to hear KAREN screaming at 3:46 am again she might kill him.
Second draw back he sleeps in her bad with her once he can get the courage to but once it's there no take backs, upside she get to cuddle the tail(s).
Kinky times, first and foremost he has a medium knot and thinish cum, tastes like saki and plum wine for some reason, tail bondage as much as he can, instead of feather play he'll use a smaller tail to trace the jaw line to the chest to the hip bones, may or may not have used it on her clit.
Yes he has a massive breeding kink but he will wait till shes out of school for graphic design, goes in to rut in the spring and fall.
'wife' is his first darling and only darling, uses weird magick to keep them alive and well or talks to Valent to whip up a potion for it. Only to owe a favor later.
Marks her up a lot he wants other to know that she is taken.
Has a pet tatnuki, named plumberry.
Can shop on his own and take care of the house, just a sweetie to the female and kid neighbors but actively avoids the males (sixteen and older), keeps up to date with the latest anime, manga and games, if his lifestyle permitted it he'd be a neet. But unfortunately he lik the others wants to spoil 'wife'. She deserves it for putting up with him.
Low-key hates himself and once 'wife' gets to know and love him, she threatens to get the strap and peg the love into him, makes him feel abit better.
She just plays with his tail(s) most of the time, rarely does she go for the ears.
Fffffffiiiiiicccccc ttttttiiiiiimmmmeeee
As he got everything moved in all he could smell and see was his darling wife's stuff mixed with his, he thought about next month and what he'd have to do to rent out the other spaces so the others won't be mad about his noise or work.
"maybe get a nice work space like my last, the one below has a one bed, one bath, small kitchen and nice living room. The one to the right has two bed, two bath, big kitchen and small living room, one to the left has two bed, one and half bath and small kitchen medium living space." He mumbled to himself as he stired the fajita.
In his deep contemplation he didn't hear her come in til she screamed, "WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU IN MY PLACE?!?!?!" She pulled out her phone.
"Dear wife, I'm your husband and I'm making food, it's your favorite it's fajita." He moved over to take the phone before she could call 911 and report him not that it would do good since he could wipe memory.
"Dear, your over reacting, we've been dating for months*." Still smiling but now showing fangs, he gripped her wrists with one very silky tail and pulled her inside, as not to disturb the neighbours.
"Dear wife, what do you mean I don't know you or why you or your stuff is in my..... Place." She trailed off looking at her new set up. While his stuff did look comfy and better than hers (which he threw out cause it was mostly broke) it still didn't make sense to her.
Then it hit her as she really saw him, he's in her class. She asked on a rough day to pet his tail.
"Brier, right we take Mr. Yuons class together. I've talk to all but one time."
"Ah you do remember dear, I'm so happy I've watched you from afar, by the way Davie is suffering right now for hurting you." She was forcefully sit down in his light blue chair at the (new) table and given a cup of tea with a pot in front of her.
As he finished making dinner and getting plates, finally setting down.
"I have been watching you for two years and I made sure to take at least one class with you. Kept an eye on you thu your laptops and made sure those who hurt you paid the ultimate price." He started to eat but his ear fell down he felt like this wasn't his best try and you weren't eating it.
"So your a stalker and hey don't look so down you broke in to my apartment am moved your stuff in." She slammed her hands into the table. "I'm upset because your not eating and I know you didn't eat well at your parents cause your dad is disappointed in your career choice." He wistful sighed.
"Your upset because I won't eat not that I'm mad?" She asked him.
"Yes, I expected anger I prepare for you to fight me and throw things not just sit there and try to talk this out." At that you finally started to eat and you stopped looked him dead in the eye and said, "why is your food so good, man I wanted this to suck but it tastes like my mom's, also are you a kitsune?".
I smile once again, "yes I am and you have won my favor. I work as tech support for hell hub, also I go to college part time but I couldn't handle being away from you any longer." I take one of her hands in mine then let it go.
"so will you let me keep you as my wife or are you going to fight me?"

There was a meta you did that confused me, not with regards to Light (about him being on par with L's intelligence during yotsuba arc not needing anything supernatural) but with L, didn't L start detective work when he was 18, when he first discovered a case and was using computers to relieve his boredom? He wasn't trained by Watari intellectually since Watari didn't know that L would be good at detective work?
Hi anon. I’m not 100% certain which meta you’re referring to but I think it might be this post, but let me know if that’s not it. So here’s what @eyecicles original post said:
What I like about the Yotsuba arc is how it demonstrates that Light doesn’t need supernatural powers to be on a par with L intellectually
And if you consider how he’s 7 years younger & has never professionally worked as a detective before, I find this even more impressive
I think anything less wouldā€˜ve been disappointing, though
and what I said:
That always impressed me about Light…that he kept up with L who had been a detective since childhood, received special training and a one-on-one superspy mentor, unlimited resources and tech, had the support and privileged knowledge from countless global police groups, AND was 7 years older. Light went to normal (albeit nice private) school and had a normal life and family. The closest he’d ever come to L’s cloak and dagger stuff was dabbling in his Dad’s cases on occasion, and helping to solve them. He was a natural at being the closest thing to L at the time they met.
Not sure why you though I said L started solving cases at 18; we know that L has been a detective since childhood via the L File 15, which (perhaps unfortunately) is a canon piece of media made by Ohba and Obata. There’s two short manga in that bookĀ L: The Wammy's House and L: One Day, which show the events leading to L becoming a detective as a child (he solves a murder case and finds it to be a terrific puzzle). Also in those manga, we see Watari providing for L’s every whim and desire-- from puzzles to computers to rooms to even inventing contraptions to make his life easier (the cursed washing machine for example). Watari literally does everythingĀ for L so L won’t have toĀ ā€˜waste time’ with anything boring. That’s a heck of a support system. Given all that Watari is willing to do, I find it hard to believe that he wouldn’t also impart any knowledge he had that L wanted to know. Be that inventions, interrogation techniques, sniping, who knows. The point here is that Light didn’t have any of that special stuff or attention/time; he had a normal family and life, normal schooling, etc. That Light was able to meet L at his level is pretty impressive.Ā

Devil’s Line Review/Analysis
Tumblr media
This is gonna be a different beast to tackle for a few reasons A) I actually started this once before and dropped it, B) For a proper analysis I’m gonna have to dive into spoilers, and C) I technically haven’t finished the entire series, as the last volume of the manga isn’t translated (and I will only talk about the manga here) I say this all so you’ll be gentle with me as I pop from subject to subject
To start let’s get that summary:
Tsukasa, a college student, is rescued from an attack by a devil, one of many vampires that can blend in among the human population. Anzai, her savior, is a half-devil who exploits his supernatural gifts as a member of a shadowy police task force that specializes in devil-related crime in Tokyo. As Anzai continues to keep guard over Tsukasa, the two quickly forge a tentative bond—one that Anzai fears will test his iron-clad rule of never drinking human blood …
So I feel like expectations play a lot into how you receive this story and what you want to get out of it.Ā  My first time going in I was told it was a dark fantasy series, and then what I got in the 7 or 8 chapters I read was a lot of faffing about of will they won’t they with the external plot only appearing to be there to drive the main couple together, so I got bored and dropped it
This time I went in not only knowing there would be a lot of romance, but also personally more in the mood for vampire stuff, and kinda meeting it where it was allowed me to see it grow into more interesting ways
The beginning isn’t bad, but I think it is best appreciated when you know up front this is 50% romance and 50% thriller, both genres are equally important to the narrative, but rather than starting out with that ratio, the beginning focuses entirely on Tsukasa’s and Anzai’s blossoming romance, from there a greater plot concerning devils begins to unfold, and then the two really begin to work in sync to prop both sides up
Bc once the ball starts rolling, the plot becomes a high-speed mystery concerning secret conspiracies and questions of who you can trust, what started out simple gets more information added on that complicates matters as you begin to question your own judgement, still what keeps the plot from becoming a jumbled mess is the fact at the heart of the story is always Tsukasa and Anzai, it gives the narrative focus that I’ve see few things series have
I should also mention my first impressions of the romance being shaken bc I am so used to series having couples who are love at first sight yet waste the entire time actually getting together until the end, and while these two basically also have love at first sight and take a while to actually get together, they get together in an overall timely manner, and their relationship is allowed to grow and evolve in very mature ways, not just sexually but also emotionally, a lot of their arc together is learning about how to communicate what they want to the other and as their relationship grows, their strength as individual characters grow as well
Now I’m gonna get into some spoilers, but what turned the series from simply fun into can’t put down is the timeskip
A lot of the elements that I enjoyed were being done before the time skip, but I feel like the skip is what allowed it to reach new heights it just kept hovering up at
Bc slowly as we start from Tsukasa and Anzai, the world expands, first to his colleagues, then to their enemies until it is a large but never burgeoning cast of connections, and the way they keep it all together is that it is grounded by lot of casual little moments to see people just be people, no matter their relation to the protagonists, we are consistently shown the humanity of almost everyone we come in contact with, and as a result it is hard to not fall in love with people who had previously tried to murder your faves (and might still currently be doing so)Ā  and after the timeskip we just get hit with back to back side stories of the cast each going through their own internal problems, while still keeping to focus on Tsukasa and Anzai
Another thing that helps is that the worldbuilding concerning devil’s is extremely well-done, again it starts out simpleĀ ā€œthey see blood, then transform into monsters, sexual lust is connected to their bloodlustā€ but not only do we learn devil’s themselves, but a lot about what it means for a world to have a population like this, for example we get a detailed look into the tech created to help devil’s have safe sex with human partners and while it can be easy to poke fun at such specific details, by the end of the series it really does feel like an actual genetic disorder rather than some supernatural stuff with a sciency explanation tacked on
A moment that really made me stop and realizeĀ ā€œoh the person behind this must know stuff besides story-tellingā€ was when after and educational lecture about devils, the speaker admitted privately that the model used to describe them was problematic in that it demonized certain sects of devils, like wow, it was a quick moment, but a story showing the struggles of nuanced activism? Then we not only touch upon exploration of devil’s through a social science lens, but the overall philosophy that gets brought up on how to deal with institutional bigotry is interesting (this will be endgame spoilers so if you want to skip this, scroll down until you see bolded words again)
In two separate cases, we see two queer women involved in institutions get asked to do something unethical, both decide that if they refuse then they’ll get fired and someone else will simply take their place, and their goal then becomes to work through the system until they make it to the top and can start openly resisting
The effectiveness of these strategies is intriguing to dig through, the first is a researcher breeding devil/human children to study, (many of the participants being convicts) and from her actions we see her try and inform those involved to the best of her abilities and get their consent, and when possible, try to use couples who are already together, any information that would put individuals at risk of being chosen for illegal experimentation, she destroys, when she becomes the head researcher, she changes the program to rely completely on studying the children of already formed devil/human couples who come to them willingly
The second is asked to head the conspiracy of wiping out all devils, when ironically she is a devil herself, and so what they do is essentially play their part until they’ve amassed enough power to eventually stage a coup, until they can get an insider to be the prime minister to publicly reveal to the world, the conspiracy and have vocal support of devil rights, not only does this plan depend on the actual killing of innocents and riling up actual bigotry, but it also attracts actual cold-blooded killers and violent bigots which complicate matters, and for all their effort, the prime minister gets assassinated right during his big speechĀ
As I mentioned their is still one volume left untranslated so I don’t know how it will add on to this, (most of the plot lines got wrapped up so I can’t see many major developments happening beyond wrapping up character plot threads) but they’re some juicy thematic questions to chew on as well, which is always a treat
Returning to some general strengths of the series, there really is a genuine sex-positive stance, I say that specifically bc it isn’t just simply exploring themes of sex, but also the way it does so, as mentioned above, there is a lot of baggage around devil’s and their sexual relationships, but a lot of what the characters have to learn is that such desires are normal and not some great abomination, just something they have to be responsible about, no one is shamed for communicating what they want/like, especially women, where multiple female characters are in fact openly encouraged to communicate to their partners that they are interested in sex, and from their we watch multiple couples (including a m/m one) work out what they want, in one neither is interested in romance, but is ok with a friends with benefit thing, two have the male participant be unsure of their feelings and so they work in their comfort zone (one likes physical touch and kissing, another they only hug) the m/m couple not only get screen-time of struggling with theĀ ā€œare you gay, I want to show interest but not get perceived as a creepā€ deal, but one admits to being repulsed by sex, and they still work out a romantic relationship
And the most surprising amount part of this, is that there is no unnecessary titillation, the eternal question of what is over-sexualization and all can get confusing and tiring, so I won’t define a specific threshold here or say this is the only way to tell such stories about sex, but first you don’t got any unrealistic body proportions on anyone or any creepy shots, everyone is fully clothed and dressed normally for the non-sexy bits, and while we do get a sex scene, it is pretty non-graphic (you got boobs and that is all that it on screen) so there really isn’t any confusing moments like in other stories I’ve experienced where I have to wonder if the framing contradicts its messageĀ
I could go on, but the strength of the story lies within at the end of the day being about normal people just trying to live their lives, it really does seem to capture the essence of what it means to be human effortlessly, and I am just immediately charmed and ready to follow Ryo Handa in whatever other projects she does

Where Everyone Lives, V2.0
There’s an old post lying around here that has basically this same premise but now that we’re post-Flag Friday it’s worth revisiting where exactly everyone is in the Verse, and going into a little more detail then the V1.0 version did. I’ll be splitting this one up by district since most of the cast is in Tick-Tock Town.
Central District
Galekh XigisiĀ can be found near the Central-Prosperia border in his family’s antique mansion. The surrounding land is gray and dead, and inside the home has been extensively modified to accommodate oozing personages.
Tagora Gorjek lives here with his father, where he often works towards his future career when he isn’t out looking for those in need of his services. The inside of his home is kept clean as a mirror, though thanks to his bumbling clones he has to spend a lot of time keeping it clean.
Tirona KasundĀ lives with her brainspawn brethren in a communal dormitory run by the city. She’s lived her whole life here, same as the others, and her room is decked out in motivational posters, mathematical or otherwise.
Tyzias Entykk lives and works here, in a communal apprentment she shares with a lot of other up-and-coming law students. Her family home, however, is a modest residence in the middle of Prosperia.
The home of the aristocratic Erdehn family is here, whose questionably talented daughter Amisia is usually off in a studio being rented out in Prosperia.
Seaside District
Polypa Goezee’sĀ main base of operations is somewhere in this district, though she has little hidey-holes scattered all over the city. Main points in common between them all are stockpiles of emergency rations, backup legs, and spare manga lying around to keep herself entertained while she’s waiting out pursuers.
Remele Namaaq lives here, in Seaside Central.
Zebede Tongva and his father live here in a run-down apartment tower infested with bees and bee-friendly plants. It’s in a block of hexagonal apartments near the Seaside-Qerse border, and a stone’s throw from Erisoldier territory in Seaside East.
Tagora Gorjek’s mutated clones have a home to themselves here, paid for by Tagora himself to keep them away from him. Its residents have given it the moniker ā€œthe Tagormitoryā€.
Prosperia
Amisia Erdehn’s art studio is located in a penthouse suite that comes complete with greenhouse area. Most of the greenhouse glass is covered up to keep paint and hand-vomit from splattering everywhere, and the actual living space is fairly small, but Amisia prefers it to her family home in Central.
Bronya Ursama and her wealthy parents live in a wide-but-not-deep mansion with lavish surrounding gardens. Despite having everything she could want at home Bronya’s felt increasingly uneasy and spends more of her time out of the house than in it.
Karako Pierot is staying with a wealthy family who adopted him, though few would be able to tell you he’s doing so if they’re aware of him at all.
Lynera Skalbi and her parents reside in historic Skalbi Manor in the aristocratic sector here. Their not-wide-but-deep mansion is loaded with magical paraphernalia from their family’s past, including a deep stockpile of captured demons.
Stelsa Sezyat lives and works out of a modest home she’s earned for herself. The local community is very accepting of free dolls like her and includes more than a few free dolls in their number.
The Entykk household can be found here, towards the Alterneo-Prosperia border.
The Houtek family lives here, albeit without their daughter Marsti after they mutually decided to part ways.
Qerse
Ardata Carmia lives here.
Charun KrojibĀ lives underneath Tick-Tock Town in the Understreets, deep enough to be below the sewer lines even, but is roughly in the Qerse area. Their cave is right next to a chunk of Clocknet, which they scavenge from frequently for their art.
Chixie RoixmrĀ and her mother have a dingy little place to themselves in the side of Qerse host to many other immigrant families from the Land of Rot and Sparks. It’s on a winding road that’s one of the most curvy in the city outside of Alterneo, but you can tell it’s her home from how many of her own promotional posters she has plastered over every wall.
Daraya Jonjet lives here in a snug two-floor house, not that you would be able to find her here during most hours. It’s in the LORAS part of town, and it shows inside and out as her parents still have the experiment-loving mindset of native LORASites. The house’s scarce room being taken up by science equipment means Daraya spends a lot of time outside the house.
Mallek Adalov and his father control a spacious penthouse, though it feels smaller than it really is thanks to all the tech cluttering the place up. The suite has as many mods as its young resident does, many of them installed to help with doll de-programming and re-programming.
Tegiri Kalbur has been a longtime Qerse native, with both his old dojo and his current apartment being found here. The former has been trashed for years but he’s made the latter into a comfortable little den for himself and occasionally Polypa by stocking the place to the roof with anime merchandise.
Alterneo
Fozzer Velyes works in an in-city cemetery and lives about a block away. The place is small for someone his size so he mostly uses it like a storage shed and just sleeps in the cemetery. Easier to keep people from robbing graves that way.
Marsti Houtek lives down in the sewer lines beneath Alterneo, in a janitorial side area she’s converted into a home for herself. She doesn’t spend frivolously so while the place is spotless from roof to floor, there’s not a lot of decoration here, though it does include a giant tub for her to toss bath bombs into.
Wanshi Adyata lives just a neighborhood away from a historic library, where she works part-time to eventually get her hands on some grimoires stored there. Her house is in one of the upscale neighborhoods closer to the Central-Alterneo border.
The Maenad household, currently sans the Maenad’s daughter Chahut, can be found here.
Emerald Quarter
Zebruh Codakk and his father used to live here in a stately manor, until the latter had a fatal accident and left the whole property to his son and his son’s significant other. The mansion used to be full of people, but now it’s only home to two. Zebruh doesn’t really leave the house anymore, but his self-proclaimed better half certainly does.Ā
Sburbia
None of the trolls live here, actually! It’s a mostly human-populated district so no surprise there. This section’ll be more packed with stuff when I decide to include the Homestuck cast in this post.
Nocturne / Wrecked
Boldir LamatiĀ lives with her adoptive parents in one of the nicer parts of the district near the Nocturne-Emerald border. Inside her home she has access to a wealth of academic knowledge and when she’s not off sleuthing you can usually find her at home by the fireplace with her head in a book.
Diemen Xicali lives alone in a loft above a butcher shop bereft of meat, living or otherwise. It’s a sparsely-decorated abode, and most of what is there got there thanks to doing favors for Mallek.
Elwurd has managed to fix a place up for herself here, a real model citizen when it comes to home improvement. She lives alone in a place built for two.
Folykl Darane and Kuprum Maxlol are hiding out inside a large warehouse here, one of the few places that can actually support Kuprum and the giant chunk of Clocknet stuck to him. It’s a better place than its humble description makes it out to be thanks to being close to the Emerald Quarter, with internet and everything.
Outside of Tick-Tock Town
Azdaja KnelaxĀ and Konyyl OkimawĀ live in a seaside mansion on the Land of Coral and Combat, won with their collective earnings in the gladiatorial arena scene. Azdaja’s taken over the surface part of the mansion with robotics and advanced tech. Konyyl’s carved her own spot in the mansion’s basement, which runs straight down to the shoreline and is full of traps and dangers she uses for exercise.
Baizli and Barzum Soleil travel with the Midnight Melpomene, performing odd jobs around the carnival and specializing in daredevil stunts. Their young age makes them a rarity within the Melpomene’s expansive staff, and impressively enough still have their own room.
Chahut Maenad, after being forced to flee Tick-Tock Town, briefly joined up with the Midnight Melpomene and eventually made her way to the Land of Oasis and Abyss. She’s settled into a comfortable position on the island of Hore Corror, though she still sometimes tours with the Melpomene to sneak back into Tick-Tock Town.
Cirava Hermod can be found deep inside the bowels of the 🐠MOIS3YS3OPI4 🐠, where they tend to stay after ļ¼“ļ½ˆļ½… ļ¼”ļ½ƒļ½ƒļ½‰ļ½„ļ½…ļ½Žļ½” led to them becoming partly petrified. Their layer of the city is drenched in seawater and some parts are flooded, but it’s perfect to keep people from bothering them while they stream.
Lanque Bombyx lives by himself on one of the many planets of the celestial ring, though not one mentioned in this post.
Marvus Xoloto travels a lot on business and has no consistent home.
Nihkee Moolah lives on the Land of Coral and Combat. She may not be a native to the planet but she fits right in with the hyper-competitive culture, being a thus-far undefeated gladiator with a home of her own on the planet where she spends most of her time prepping for the next fight.
Skylla Koriga is trapped along with her mother inside the ghost town of Tarnation, located in a nebulous location somewhere on the Land of Dunes and Darkness. The best she’s got is a run-down farmstead but it’s not her neighbors have much better.
Vikare RatiteĀ has no strings to hold him down. He doesn’t live anywhere anymore.

Alita Battle Angel Review
I've never read the Alita manga, so I went into the movie not knowing what to expect. I ended up really enjoying it! The movie isn't perfect, but it quickly won me over and I'd definitely watch a sequel.
Full Spoilers...
I really enjoyed Alita's (Rosa Salazar) characterization here first as a curious and awe-struck, fun-loving youngster and later as someone who feels with all of her being and stands up for those who can’t protect themselves, even if it means sacrificing her life and (literal) limbs. The movie's biggest issues came from some clunky dialogue—Alita sounds like a teenager, sure, but a cliche one—and distracting CGI around her face. There were very few times where Alita didn't look like a CGI creation, which pulled me out of the movie over and over again. Her hands/arms and the rest of her looked realistic, but it was the oversized eyes that threw me off; I don't know if that's how it is in the manga, but if so I wish they hadn't adapted it so faithfully. I'd much rather see her expressiveness than faithfulness to the source material. Even with the routine dialogue and noticeable CGI, however, Salazar crafted a compelling character! She did a great job, bringing believable emotion through the sometimes overdone dialogue and CGI when it mattered most, so I was able to connect with Alita despite those drawbacks. Her impulse to never stand by in the presence of evil made her easy to root for and her response to an offer of mercy from one of the villains—"fuck your mercy"—was one of the best uses of the PG-13 "one f-bomb" rule I’ve seen as well as a fantastic, fist-pumping moment! The teen rebellion aspect worked really well and I liked that it wasn't just about dating a boy her ā€œdadā€ disapproved of or playing a sport he thought was dangerous, but about beginning to fight a larger battle against society. All of those elements coalesced to ground Alita in relatable teen dramas while sending her off on her task of leading a revolution against her society (which is unfortunatelyĀ alsoĀ relatable to teens these days).
Christoph Waltz gave a great, naturalistic, and warm performance here; maybe my favorite I’ve ever seen of his. I thought he walked the ā€œcould be a killerā€ line very well without tipping into over-the-top villainy for the sake of the twist. I also fully bought his fatherly connection to Alita (or at least—at first—the cyborg body he'd built for his daughter). This was a neat, positive spin on Frankenstein, which was a fun change (though different characters brought other aspects of that story in, in much darker ways). I would've liked to see more interaction between Ido and his ex-wife Dr. Chiren (Jennifer Connelly), but the shared history they hinted at felt realistic and like they’d had a full life together before the movie started.
I'm glad Alita’s boyfriend Hugo (Keean Johnson) turned out to be truly supportive of her rather than just trying to get close to her to steal her body parts or something, but it felt like they could've done more with his character. He and his crew (Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Lana Condor) brought the darker body-snatching elements of Frankenstein to the story and while that was a strong twist, I wanted more fallout from it. I also wish the irony of him becoming his victims had been given some time to breathe. While he does get his head cut off for his crimes, it's done to save his life and Alita forgives him for what he was doing to people just like her awfully fast. I get that she had to make a split-second decision to save him or not, but she could’ve continued being mad at him after he was out of the woods. Alita learning about what he'd been doing and both of their reactions to him losing his body should've been bigger moments. For example, they spend a whole scene with her taking in his human torso, but they mostly gloss over their reactions to his new one. Even if Alita’s quickly-resolved reaction to his body-snatching side gig was supposed to be related to how easily she goes from one cyborg body to the next in the film, that could’ve been emphasized.Ā
Mahershala Ali made for a good minor villain as Vector and I really liked the dark twist of how he was getting people into Zalem. I would've liked to know more about him and what he thought about being such a literal pawn, though. He thinks it’s better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven, but did he have any plans to expand his empire in Iron City or to rebel against his boss, Nova (Edward Norton)? Intentional or not, Nova being a white man who routinely takes over the body of his black employee carries slavery symbolism and I wish we’d seen more of Vector’s reaction to it beyond the discomfort/annoyance he felt. Nova’s ability to remotely plug-in and take over any of his pawns was really creepy and cyber-punk in the best way. I've seen that used in other anime (like Ghost in the Shell), and it will never not be creepy. It's also a good way for the setting to dramatize the 1% literally using and disposing of the lower classes. I'm excited to see what other ways Nova can use his tech to fight Alita in future installments! I wonder if there'll be a point where Alita has to kill a pawn who’s otherwise a good person; that’d be an interesting moral challenge. The other Hunter-Warriors and cyborgs (Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, Eiza Gonzalez, Rick Yune, Elle Lamont and more) were good challenges for Alita and boasted a cool array of designs, even if they were more CGI than I would've liked.
The world was very well-designed and I’m eager to see what Zalem looks like in contrast with Iron City. The lower city had a great lived-in sensibility that lent it a history without stopping to explain every little detail of the world in unnatural ways (while using Alita’s memory loss to explain the important things with her as our surrogate worked well). I don't need to see a prequel though: I don't ever need to know more about The Fall and what we see of Alita's memories was more than enough to set things in motion. Let’s move forward, not back. Motorball doesn't feel like a new idea outside of the movie, but it made total sense as the biggest sport in this world. While maybe not the most original sport, I liked that it felt fully constructed by this era and for these cyborg characters. They made full use of the characters' repairable and interchangeable body parts with all the destruction involved in the sport, which made for some thrilling sequences. The action and fights in general were very coolly choreographed! They all felt relatively different and each of the Hunter-Warriors offered unique challenges, always keeping things fresh.Ā
The movie's pacing was really well done, moving briskly along and covering a lot of ground in just two hours. Ending on Alita about to win her way to Zalem so she can face off with the 1% was a great choice! This was one of very few modern sci-fi/Young Adult movies where I didn't feel like all the cool stuff was only hinted at and saved for a sequel that might not happen. It felt like a huge amount of things went on, which made for a very satisfying experience and built my anticipation for the future nicely.Ā
While there were some issues with the dialogue and definitely the CGI (and some character beats could’ve been explored more), I'd definitely like to get more Alita movies. I hope Disney decides to continue this story now that they own the rights, because I want to see what happens next! Alita is still going strong in theaters, so definitely make some time to see this!Ā
