Brain Bubble: Kevin The Meat Puppet
Tumblr media
I have had the best idea for a TV show and it's an adaptation of Viscera Cleanup Detail. The game already works as a brilliant Absurdist comedy whereas the mundanity of janitorial work meets the macabre nature of the grisliest, most over-the-top murder scenes. This is, as the title suggests, about cleaning viscera. Furthermore, it is also a comedy of errors as I've seen players fall into all sorts of workplace mishaps: from janky buckets that can't properly hold severed body parts, to leaving bloody footprints in places they had just cleaned, and everything in between.
Tumblr media
All of that could be smoothly transliterated into a properly structured sitcom. One episode could be a Laurel and Hardy style sketch where our cleaning guys have to carry corpses up a staircase because the furnace is at the top floor and the elevator is out of service. In another episode, the guys can't retrieve a human head that's stuck on a ceiling fan and high jinks ensue. Maybe one of the boys decides to construct a puppet made of guts and starts a ventriloquist act. The meat golem should be named Kevin and become a recurring "character." There will be a recurring gag in which Kevin makes a sudden, unexpected appearance in various spots, giving the other janitors a fright. Oh, and how about an episode where the floor is so slippery with blood they turn it into a figure skating ring?
Tumblr media
The funniest part about the show would be the comically gruesome settings themselves. In most cases, whatever might have happened to cause such massive amounts of death should be left to the viewer's interpretation... On that note, the original game already has a Christmas themed map. The comedy practically writes itself.
Tumblr media
Of course, you've got to have guest stars in your weekly series, which would also inform the setup. Maybe Bryan Cranston is a corpse that gets the Weekend at Bernie's treatment or Charlie Day joins the workforce, and he has a pet raccoon... The raccoon kidnaps Kevin!
Tumblr media
I would absolutely demand a crossover episode with What We Do in the Shadows where its entire cast shows up as the characters they play on screen and the crew has to clean up after one of their messes. Tell me you wouldn't want to see that! I'm going to stop giving away these genius ideas for free. If you want to know what happens to Kevin, you're going to have to pay me. Hit me up, Michael Schur!

is twitter trans too or is she tumblr’s token cis girlfriend
I honestly don't have much written for twitter because surprisingly she's not one of the main characters in this weird little story I've created. A lot of people have told me twitblr gives them T4T energy and i do kind of see that, but Twitter makes more sense to me as a token cis girl. That part I'm willing to leave up to people's interpretation as long as people don't go out of their way to misgender her.
If you're curious, the other main characters in this weird little (AU? it is an AU if the characters I'm using are literal websites?) are Ao3, who is nonbinary-femme and with with whom Tumblr is roommates, and Youtube, who is also a trans woman.

Santana featuring Rob Thomas - Smooth 1999
"Smooth" is a song performed by American rockband Santana and Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, who sings the lead vocals. It was released as the lead single from Santana's eighteenth studio album, Supernatural (1999). It was originally conceived by Itaal Shur as a song called "Room 17". The lyrics were stripped off and the track was given to Rob Thomas, who re-wrote the lyrics and melody and re-titled it "Smooth", then recorded the song as a demo to play for Santana. After hearing the song, Santana decided to have Thomas record the final version. Thomas originally had George Michael in mind to sing the song.
The single became a chart-topping hit in 1999, spending 12 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. "Smooth" stayed in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for 30 weeks and the top 100 for 58 weeks. In the UK, "Smooth" peaked at number three, spending eight weeks in the top 40. The song also peaked at number three in Ireland, spending ten weeks on the Irish Singles Chart. The song also peaked at number one in Canada for a week, number two in Greece, number four in Australia, and number nine in Austria.
On Billboard magazine's rankings of the top songs of the first 50 years of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, "Smooth" was ranked as the number-two song overall and the number-one rock song in the history of the chart.
"Smooth" received a total of 85,6% yes votes!

Hozier said "Take Me to Church" is about "sex and humanity, and obviously sex and humanity are incredibly tied. Sexuality, and sexual orientation — regardless of orientation — is just natural… The song is about asserting yourself and reclaiming your humanity through an act of love"

It's always so funny when Hebrew names don't change much in spelling when they're anglicized, but the difference in pronunciation is night and day.....
-David. Anglos: "Day-vid". Hebrew speakers: "Dah-veed".
-Michael. Anglos: "My-cull". Hebrew speakers: "Me-chah-el".
-Naomi. Anglos: "Ny-oh-me." Hebrew speakers: "Neh-oh-me."
-Rachel. Anglos: "Ray-chull*." (*CH as in Cheese) Hebrew speakers: "Rah-chell".
-Levi. Anglos: "Lee-vy". Hebrew speakers: "Leh-vee".
-Asher. Anglos: "Aah-shur". Hebrew speakers: "Ah-sher".
-Leah. Anglos: "Lee-ah". Hebrew speakers: "Leh-ah" or "Lay-ah".

I read books! Sometimes, I remember to talk about books!
Here’s a roundup of some of my favorite things I read in 2023. I'll put half of this under a cut to save the timeline.
Middle Grade:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Life Gives You Mangos by Kereen Getten - This is a sweet story about friendship, grief, and family set in a close knit community in Jamaica following a young girl who can't remember anything that happened the previous summer. I don't read middle grade often so I wasn't expecting to be on the edge of my seat during this book, but I sure was!
Garlic & the Vampire by Bree Paulson - An anthropomorphic village of vegetables - what more could you ask for? When the village learns a vampire moved into a nearby castle, they decide Garlic has to be the one to face him. A cute, wholesome graphic novel - and the sequel Garlic & the Witch was also lovely!
Nonfiction:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Mind Spread Out on the Ground by Alicia Elliott - This is a collection of essays by an Indegenous author covering a wide range of topics including race, gentrification, parenthood, and mental illness. I annotated the shit out of this book... which is always a sign of a well loved read in my house.
Bad Blood by John Carreyrou - A fascinating account by the journalist from the Wall Street Journal who broke open the case against Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes. The entire story is absolutely bananas and made for a wild read.
Excellent on Audio:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to Be Perfect by Michael Shur - If you watched and enjoyed The Good Place, this audiobook should be required listening. Pretty much everyone from the cast pops in at random times to narrate something. It was also just a great, thought-provoking book. I actually read this for a work book club and it prompted me to finally finish The Good Place. Most successful book club pick ever.
Finding Me by Viola Davis - She won a Grammy for the narration of this book (and earning her rightful place as an EGOT) and it was well deserved. I'm not usually one for celebrity memoirs, but Viola's life was incredibly interesting and her narration was amazing.
Thriller/Horror:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas - This is a Mexican, historical, gothic horror novel set after the Mexican War of Independence. It features a secluded, potentially haunted hacienda and a priest who might actually be a witch. Atmospheric vibes are peak here. Highly recommend listening to the spotify playlist the author made while you read!
No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole - The official blurb says "the gentrification of a Brooklyn neighborhood takes on a sinister new meaning" and that about sums it up. It also compares it to Get Out and that's a pretty good comp, in my opinion.
Poetry:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Artemis Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer - I'm not gonna lie, this poetry collection and the one in the series before it (Aphrodite Made Me Do It) were absolutely cover buys. The cover art is stunning! but luckily the inside is good too.
If My Body Could Speak by Blythe Baird - This collection deals a lot with the feminine experience, how we relate to our bodies and its traumas. Definitely check the trigger warnings for this collection first before picking it up.
Romance:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert - I'm not one to read a ton of romance books but I did enjoy a couple this year. This one was definitely the most explicit but also wholesome and something has to be said for being able to do both. Fun tropes include: fake dating & grumpy/sunshine.
Glitterland by Alexis Hall - While this is still a romance book at its core, it also deals heavily with depression. Fun tip with this book: definitely get the re-released edition with this cover because it has author annotation notes! It was very fun to read those at the end of every chapter.
Short & Quick Reads:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Appendix by Liam Konemann - This is a very small little pocket book, part of the 404's Inklings collection. In it, Liam is reacting to transphobia he encounters through various media, but also discussing how he navigates being a gay trans man in today's culture.
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh - I think I would best describe this as a queer forest fairytale. I'm a sucker for any story that can transport me to a mythical forest and while this one clocks in at a little under 115 pages, it packed a good plant magic punch.
Misc Books I Couldn't Find a Category For:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat - I never thought I would read this series, but I stumbled into the first one and then devoured the entire series in the span of 2 days. While I know the core of what people love about this is the love story... the political intrigue happening absolutely gripped me!
Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore - Another trope/plot device I love is time travel... or whatever weird timey wimey mess you would consider this: Oona faints after she's about to turn nineteen and awakens 32 years in the future in her 51 year old body. She learns that after each year completes, she'll leap to another age at random. It's as messy and complicated as it sounds but never a dull moment.

Of all the things young people on tumblr collectively believe, the misty-eyed revisionist history of punk rock and associated subcultures as the province of good-hearted Michael Shur half-hour comedy protagonists is the weirdest. I can understand when its done to very ancient cultures of which so much knowledge has been lost but there's some pretty extensive wikipedia articles on Johnny Rotten or whatever. You can buy albums! You can watch documentaries! You can even go to shows!!
Its just so weird to me, what a strange hill to die on. It would be like if I got really mad and said "you don't get it at all. Rockabilly isn't about victory rolls or pinup tattoos. Rockabilly is about taking a stand for kindness. The most rockabilly thing you can do is plant sunflowers in an abandoned lot and knit socks for the homeless." It would just be an odd thing to try and construct a political ideology out of, and even then there's no actual ideology to it. It's barely an ethos. There's not even much aesthetic, the way tumblr does it. It's just a weird thing to be aggressively wrong about.

How'd you get to be such a fuckin sweetheart, huh?
Being a sweetheart isn't and end state! It's a process. I was really lucky growing up; my parents did right by me and I was able to find things I enjoyed (drama and programming) that eventually lead me to succeed as an adult. But it took a long time and a lot of exposure to different perspectives to figure out how to love myself and others as easily as I do now.
By now it's a self-sustaining process for me, because my life is full of people who remind me about love every day. I think the most important part of the road here was absorbing a bunch of humanism. I love works of art and philosophy that remind me that the world is can be for people, a place that makes us happy and whole. I'll recommend some works that really stuck with me:
Breakfast of Champions, Kurt Vonnegut
I Heart Huckabees, David O. Russel
Consider the Lobster, David Foster Wallace
I, Robot, Isaac Asimov
Everything Everywhere All at Once, Daniels
The Matrix, The Wachowskis
Spider-Man 1-3, Sam Raimi
Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, Eliezer Yudkowsky
Unsong, Scott Alexander
A Practical Guide to Evil, erraticerrata (have not finished but would recommend so far)
The Good Place, created by Michael Shur
John Brown's Body, folk song
Wild Geese, Mary Oliver
The Adventure Zone: Balance, The McElroy Family
The Blackstone Rangers, poem by Gwendolyn Brooks, performance by my wife (impossible to find tickets for but a must-see)
Holes, Louis Sachar
