With how much focus she has received since the beginning of the Krakoa era, what are your thoughts on Storm ? And do you agree on the perception that she's becoming something of a Mary Sue?
I’m going to start with a mini-rant about the Mary Sue.
To the extent that there is any validity to the term at all, it is solely and exclusively within the realm of fanfiction. A Mary Sue is an OC (original character) whose supposed annoying omni-competence is really secondary to the main problem with the character, which is that they warp the narrative away from the main characters of the source material - Kirk and Spock or Picard and Data stop doing things that drive the plot, and instead just stand around asking "where's Poochie?"
youtube
Outside of fanfiction and in the realm of the media that gives rise to fanfiction, a prominent character who is incredibly talented and powerful and who makes the plot center around them is called a fucking protagonist - so no, Rey isn’t a Mary Sue, Carol Danvers isn’t a Mary Sue, Katniss Everdeen isn't a Mary Sue - none of them are Mary Sues and anyone who claims otherwise is showing that they have deep-seated Issues with female protagonists in their fiction.
Is Storm a Mary Sue?
Tumblr media
Even if we weren't talking about the most prominent black woman character in fiction, I would consider this question pretty damn offensive, both because no one would ever ask this question about a male character and - in a franchise packed to the gills with hyper-powerful women who make the plots revolve around them and who even get the complementary Love Triangle - no one sends me asks about any of those (white) women.
But to answer your question: no, Storm is not a Mary Sue - she's the main character of the X-Men.
Tumblr media
See, when Chris Claremont took over X-Men in 1975, he did so with a brand-new cast of characters, the so-called "All-New, All-Different X-Men." In no small part because they were far more diverse and more colorful than the O5 (suburban WASPs one and all), most of these characters would become break-out stars and the core of the X-Men from that day to this.
However, Claremont didn't vibe with all of the All-New X-Men equally: he had Sunfire quit the team (repeatedly), he killed off Thunderbird for shock value (a death that has only been reversed this last year), he would have killed off Wolverine if John Byrne hadn't stopped him (Claremont would later turn around on Logan once he worked out his voice), etc.
But one character that he vibed with right from the beginning was Ororo Monroe. From the very beginning, Claremont's Storm is the most powerful of the All-New X-Men, both in terms of her powers and in terms of her personality, being the only person who can face down Logan. At the same time, she's complicated by her struggles with crippling claustrophobia caused by the Suez Crisis-induced trauma of her childhood.
Tumblr media
After a few years, Claremont tired of the African Nature Goddess routine and had Storm experience an almost total transformation that nonetheless was completely grounded in her character. Feeling overly limited by the total emotional control required of her powers, Ororo undergoes a subtextual lesbian awakening in Tokyo's underground punk scene and emerges out the other side a free spirit, leader of the X-Men, and Queen of the Morlocks.
In his most audacious move in LifeDeath I and II, Claremont had Storm lose her powers thanks to Forge's anti-mutant tech - and then defeat Cyclops in a duel for command of the X-Men without her powers - and then regain her powers in an epic cycle that saw the X-Men die and be reborn as outlaw heroes in the Australian Outback.
In sum, Storm was clearly Claremont's favorite character and, as a result had the most interesting character journey over his 16-year run on X-Men.
Tumblr media
Storm in Krakoa
And then Storm basically lay fallow for almost thirty years. In no small part due to the pioneering work done by Claremont with this character, later writers were frankly too intimidated to touch the character and so starting in the 90s, Storm was increasingly sidelined in the comics in favor of the characters that were commercially "hot" at the time - Wolverine and Gambit, especially.
In the 2000s, the most significant thing to happen to Storm was her marriage to T'challa. While I think Reggie Hudlin had mostly good intentions with this decision - he wanted to create a black power couple at Marvel and thus put together Marvel's most prominent black man and black woman into a relationship - the result was to make Storm a supporting character in Black Panther comics, rather than a main character in X-Men comics.
I would argue that it is only recently with the advent of Al Ewing as a major writer in the X-office with S.W.O.R.D, X-Men Red, and Storm and the Brotherhood of Mutants that we've gotten a writer who's not afraid to write Storm as she deserves to be written - as the most powerful of the X-Men, the Regent of Arrako and the Voice of Sol, the standard-bearer of Magneto's legacy, and a woman trying to balance the demands of two planets and her own desires.

I know we’ve all had this conversation a million times but I always get so... almost irrationally annoyed when I see a few people call a character from media I enjoy is bi and then everyone else just decides that that’s 100% IT and there’s no debating it or disagreeing. I want bi rep just as much as I want any other lgbt rep, but as a pan person I want pan rep too, and it’s so tiring when people continuously look over other mspec identities that may also fit characters and act like they can ONLY be bi. And then whenever someone brings up other identities or says they see characters differently, they get shot down as “biphobic” more often than not. It just really sucks. I wish we weren’t so horribly overlooked by nearly everyone all the time :(
i’m kind of glad it took me a while to get to this message, because yesterday i was scrolling through the replies on a tweet about how barbie “has a girlfriend” and saw someone say she’s a bi icon and other people were pointing out that she could be pan or ply or omni or multiple/all of those, and oh my god all the hate those replies got........people spamming them with “no”, yelling at them about how those labels are biphobic and transphobic, and accusing them of “derailing bi posts” and it’s like.....y’all hate us so much and are so buried in “discourse” that you’re this aggressive over people interpreting a literal fucking DOLL’S sexuality differently???
but yeah. it’s frustrating. and shitty. and isolating.

*laying awake* I have known my sexuality for a bit but never bothered to say anything. I don’t know if people will care if I say I’m Omni-Achillean. I won’t know if I don’t say it. But a big part of me is scared to say anything about it due to people who already say Omni isn’t real. And a branch off of Omni? Well if Omni isn’t real then why would a sexuality under its umbrella be real? I know who I am but I don’t say anything because others don’t bother to learn about who I say I am. They don’t even bother to say “I don’t know what that is but I respect your identity.” I usually get a confused “Isn’t that just bisexual?” from the cis hets. And from other LGBTQ people I get “Isn’t that just Pan or Bi?”. It’s hard to know who you are but not be respected. I don’t expect people to go do massive research to know who I am. I just want them to say they respect me the way that I am. If they have a question they can ask. Most people don’t though.
Sorry for the mini rant there.
For anyone wondering I am Transgender Omni-Achillean and polyam. Omni-Achillean is a sort of mesh between Omnisexual and Achillean. A sexuality where the person who identifies as it is attracted to all genders while gender can play a role in the attraction but often has a stronger attraction to males while being a male themself. Figured I’d share. Also here’s the flag

So I lost the patience and watched Kizuna
! Major spoilers ahead !
Listen, I know I said I will wait until the Blu-Ray comes out, but I was impatient little bitch and I found a working Sample 3 link with English dub, so I said, fuck it! My brother joined me 20 minutes in, lol. Anyways, onto the movie.
I don't really know what to say, Digimon Last Evolution Kizuna was exactly what I expected from the movie of such name, a movie that promotes end of relationship between Digimons and their human partners.
I kinda didn't have my hope up, mostly because I rewatched Adventure & Adventure 02 last week and finally watched Tri, and the whole point of Digimon has always been, no matter what happens, Digimons and their humans will always stick and stay together, I think the quote goes "humans and Digimons forever" (?). I kinda was hyped up though, partly because of art style (it was much better than Tri, less dark and more symmetrical when it comes to faces and bodies, Tri was annoying at times with weird asymmetrical faces; also Yamato!!!! Yamato is so hot and pretty in Kizuna, wtf Toei leave this poor lesbian alone), partly because of Adventure 02 kids (my brother is so annoyed with me, but I'm a huge 02 fan, Wormmon is my baby and I can rewatch 02ep25 anytime, Stigmon's first appearance is fucking iconic).
Adventure 02 kids got much more screentime than I expected, especially Iori/Cody because he is sometimes really put aside. I love how they were staying in touch with Original Six/Eight through Yamato, and how Hikari and Takeru stayed part of their team (Tri lacked this so much, it was so weird to have Hikari and TK not knowing what happened to their friends when they were supposedly a new team/best friends). Also my baby Ken's hair (*le cries*), I miss his long hair. Both my brother and I expected Paildramon to appear near the end, but there were no DNA/Jogress evolutions besides Omegamon/Omnimon.
Yamato was so fucking hot it's unbelievable, he's become top Digi-destined to me, 2D character or not. He was so smart, so persistent, so consistent, so selfless, so cute, itty-bitty blind (those cute glasses that appeared on his face for a mili-moment during him being in uni classroom panel, all of my uwus gone), still has one of the best relationships with Gabumon (he plays harmonica for Gabumon, even after all these years, he keeps Gabumon by his side, and they both tried to find that bad-guy-turned-FBI-agent-guy sneakily, so so cute). Overall, Yamato is a emotionally much more main character than Taich is, probably because emotionally, Taichi was the main character of Tri.
Now onto our second main, Taichi. Honestly, technicall, both Yamato and Taichi are Kizuna's main guys, but emotionally, Yamato left much bigger impact. Taichi was the main character in the beginning, but as the story progressed, I could feel Yamato much better. Still, Taichi isn't left aside (like all other Original Eight kidz/people). He is a struggling university student who has no idea what to do with his life (my brother sorta compared him to me, LMAO). This is very consistent with Tri's Taichi, who is full of self dubts, abstract ideas of future, and melancholy when he thinks about his future self. Toei nicely showed it when they let us know Tai earns for his future by working part-time as a waiter (?) in an automat casino. He is kinda really down all the time when he starts realising he has to make huge choices about the future, even though he has no bloody idea or genuine thought what to do (also his porn stash, LMAO what was that Taichi, who even uses porn magazine after the age of 14).
Thinking back about it now, it's kinda underwhelming with how it actually, emotionally, focuses on the whole "Digimons have to leave their partners" philosophy. Like, it barely shows interactions between humans and Digimons (which Tri did at least, with I think all characters, so I would expect at least some focus on Yamato and Taichi). There were some interactions between Taichi and Agumon, and Yamato and Gabumon at the end, but it just felt uncomplete and unfullifying. Also whole concept is bullshit (did I mention it? Because if I didn't I will, because this whole thing really is). It all started with Tri, which felt like it was produced by random people who watched Adventure & 02 after fifteen years and decided to make their own spin on it, without actual respects for stories and characters Adventure & Adventure 02 were trying to make us feel and understand (though feelings of OOC-ness Tri had at the times were minimal in Kizuna, thank goodness for that).
Then, Kizuna continued it with the concept of "when Digi-destined grow up, their Digimon partners disappear because they are not on the same mental wavelengths anymore" which is the complete opposite of one of like three main Digimon philosophies, "Digimon and Digi-destined, together and forever"; like while I disliked 02 epilogue, it showed us that after all hardships, Digi-destined and their Digimons get their happy endings, together. Both my brother and I (we watched it together) groaned at the whole concept (along with predictive bullshit plot and plotholes).
While I understand the reason behind this (I read some spoilers on here afterwards, to broaden my post-Kizuna horizons), that humans/Digi-destined grow up, and Digimons kinda don't, it still makes me really dissatisfied. Tri showed us in flashes that, when given time spent with their and other humans, Digimons can grow and become mentally wise adults (cue to the cutest scene when Patamon closes his one eye because he understands the tension between Hikari and Takeru, as in, that they like each other and they might need some time "alone"), so Kizuna kinda fucked up all previous Adventure works by telling us everything is in vain, Digimons leave, their connection to humans they had will become meaningless and humans will have to move on. Bullshit plot(hole), but whatever.
The amount of screentime non-Taichi&Yamato characters can be underwhelming, especially if you don't read spoilers like I did. The movie starts with Takeru and Hikari as important as Yamato and Taichi, but as the movie progresses, they just fade in the background. Kinda happens to everyone else except Koushiro/Izzy, who kinda has a really leading role, considering how much screentime Taichi and Yamato have (I feel like wordcount apps will find Yamato&Taichi as my most used words in this rant review), and he is probably third most important role, until he undramatically disappears because of psycho main lady.
Now towards real ranting. I'll try to keep it short because I have no real emotions behind it and I feel some other rants might articulate it better. Anyways, the plot of the whole movie is so goddamn predictable. It starts so weirdly, with Taichi, Hikari and Takeru fighting Parrotmon (what the fuck was that even, btw???). Like, Parrotmon, again? It feels just very reused, and that feeling that doesn't leave even during the credits. Soundtrack—while nice, nostalgic, and very fitting—is also just reused Adventure 01 soundtrack, and it just brings kudos from my memory lane road nostalgia. Deja Vu is the feeling that sticks to your skin and bones, if you like me, watched Adventure 1-3 just before Kizuna, and understand how so many scenes are just reused wanna-be old seasons references.
From two older adults (I honestly thought there will be two goverment agents, again, and mentally groaned) sticking up into Digi-destineds' business like some omni-knows creature, same as agents from Tri, fucked up (female) main antagonist who pretends to be a good guy (lady?) for the sake of gathering intel and trust, who is a complete nutjob (full-time pyscho in Kizuna lady's case) because of the loss of her Digimon partner, to bullshit powered-up Digimon created from human coding (my brother pointed this one to me, and honestly, half of this movie is both Diaboromon movies rehashed/redone in 2020 shine), Omnimon fighting in some weird Digital World room powered-up creature (first Diaboromon movie straight up scene for scene), even that first scene with Parrotmon and this time completely unexplainable appearance of a Digimon in the real world, and Digi-destined having to fight it, and of course, bullshit new unexplained Digi-evolution with new (human???) mega forms of Agumon and Gabumon. All in all, it just feels very forced and all very already seen.
Now onto the less main, even less supporting characters. 02 teens are amazing, considering they have barely any lines and some little fighting moments. I love them, and I'm happy they got this, considering how they were blatantly forgotten in Tri, and how obviously nobody in the production of Tri even cared to hide that. Wormmon and Stigmon are my babies and I'm happy to see them have some screentime.
Original Six/Eight (excluding Taichi and Yamato) are kinda disappointing, though. I read some spoilers, so I knew Sora wouldn't appear much, but damn, even that was much compared to her actual screentime in Kizuna. She is almost as forgotten as 02 kids were in Tri. I get that she is shown to have moved on faster than other Original Eight kids, but still, they didn't even show her losing Piyomon (which did happen, and it was emotionally, overwhelming, in a fucked up sense when you realised Piyomon wasn't by her side). Jou, Mimi, Takeru, and Hikari were shown at the beginning of movie with so much potential screentime, but in the end they mostly were there for the dramatic cliffhangers (I didn't understand at the beginning what happened to Mimi and Jou, and I thought Hikari was murdered and that the FBI agent straight up shot Takeru), during that mini battle scene sometime in the Neverland, and of course, during the end credits. It was kinda really both overwhelming and underwhelming to see them during the credits when they could've had much more moments during the movie (I sorta had some hope because the movie is almost 2 hours long, and usually movies are like 20, 30 minutes long, but even during those one-episode-length movies there is more of main-supporting characters shown).
As mentioned, the ending is bullshit (my brother ended up crying and I had to put Adventure OST on to calm him down), Agumon and Gabumon dying is literally the most senseless thing ever since both Taichi and Yamato love their partners so much, and even among all the adulting and hassles in their lives, they try to make time for their Digimon partners (during their time in the restuarant, Yamato and Taichi literally talk how they don't have time for even their closest friends, hell Hikari even mentions Taichi should give their mother a visit, but Taichi still finds time for Agumon), so in the end both Taichi and Yamato were among the last people to lose their Digimons and I'm really disappointed in this concept, especially how they didn't show Gabumon and Agumon disappearing, Taichi and Yamato deserved explicit goodbyes.
Uh, I don't think I have anything much to add anymore. I read spoilers and some are pretty much novels from how much people put their thoughts in, this is just my ranting review, tbh. I dived into this hoping to get my heart mended from Tri (say what you want about Tri but it was too bad for six hour and half movies, especially general Adventure constistency-wise), but not with high expectations, having seen the trailer and having some spoilers read. All in all film wasn't too bad, but it wasn't too good, solid 6/10 rating from me, mostly for the animation and nostalgic soundtrack, but the whole plot was shit as fuck and the philoshophy behind it.
(Random, but I noticed straight people/shippers liked the movie better than gay people/shippers, is there any correlations between that)
ALL IN ALL, Digimon: Last Evolution Kizuna wasn't the best nor the worst Digimon movie/work, but it probably isn't something I will rewatch or recommend anytime soon (also wtf were those humanoid mega forms, like W T F).

Why is there so much drama in the ben 10 community?
Because there are always a small minority of people in fandoms who disregard context given in particular settings or flat out make shit up to support delusional takes.
Why they do this I'll never fucking know because they clearly don't actually like the series they're bitching and raving about. Viewing content you don't like just sounds fucking exhausting and life is already exhausting enough as is.
It's honestly super fucking weird. It doesn't help matters that said groups usually cultivate echo chambers and gang up on anyone that points out their takes are unfounded bullshit.
Like I don't even get mad at them anymore, just fucking confused lmao.
Like, if they were doing it as a basis for writing an AU where all their takes were actually canon that'd actually be pretty interesting since even a simple thing like Ben ACTUALLY being a womanizer would change so much of canon.
People with these delusional takes fundamentally lack the ability to realize mindsets influence actions and thus things would radically change from established canon.
It's like fics that change a character's gender, area of birth, or time period. Literally all of those would have drastic as fuck consequences for not only the character in question but everyone they interact with as they'd be raised in different social mores and norms while having different expectations thrust on them.

Lmao look at people not knowing the definition of words
Ben's names for his aliens are effectively superhero names for entire species and shows that they too can Hero if they wanted to. They are in no way, shape, or form slurs. Ben immediately stopped using the term Sludgepuppies for Lebnopans once he found out it was offensive and apologized for it.
Even as a joke this take is braindead.

I genuinely don't understand how some people can say they watched Ben 10 but refuse to accept the central premise of the series. That the Omnitrix runs off of DNA.
Like, what?
It's so fucking obvious that the Omnitrix is a DNA manipulation device and that all the aliens in the watch have DNA. When people in setting say DNA or literally anything about genetics they MEAN exactly the same shit we do irl.
The series hammers this point in during all series. Animo used the faceplate of the prototype Omnitrix to access it's Alien DNA. He used Ditto's DNA to make a clone army. He injected Future! Vilgax with a genetic cheat sheet on how to beat every single one of Ben's forms. Azmuth and Albedo constantly reference the DNA in the watch. Primus existed before the DNA was digitized in Omniverse. Eunice literally copies the genetics of any given species, even if only one at a time. Vilgax made the Bioids that had blank DNA so they can transform with the Omnitrix.
We've literally seen DNA strands of multiple aliens and they're exactly like a humans, double helix and all. Skurd literally calls the Omnitrix the food of the gods, since Slimebiotes feed off of DNA.
3 pics there showing the DNA samples of Hsaur, Swampfire, and Spidermonkey.
I knew some people in the fandom were dogshit at picking up things the series blatantly lays out but this is ridiculous.
Alien X's DNA sample shown here
youtube
Skurd literally talks about it too in the Omniverse finale lmao.
youtube
Animo repeatedly talks about the DNA in the watch too
youtube
Like .... It baffles me so much this is a contested point in the franchise. It's obvious if you pay the slightest bit of attention.

Btw in case you ever run into someone trying to downplay the Omnitrix's reaction speed by saying the Anhillargh was an artificial Big Bang and so couldn't be as fast/strong as the real thing...
They're RIGHT, it's not as fast, it's FASTER by several orders of magnitude.
when the Universe was only about 100,000 light-years in diameter, roughly the size of the Milky Way galaxy, the Universe was only ~3 years old
The unenhanced Big Bang literally created a infinitly big universe in less than a minute and travelled at least 14.9 million light years (14 trillion C) in only 5 seconds.
The one the Onmitrix reacted to had a Dwarf Star that EXPLICITLY enhances whatever it's attached to by a thousand fold.
Universe being infinitly big
Tumblr media
The universe being made by the unehanced Anhillargh
youtube
2:43
Where it makes several galaxies in 5 seconds.
Aka AT LEAST 14,900,000 light years in 5 seconds or 14 trillion C.
Seeing as the watch very explicitly transformed him AFTER he was shrouded by the light of the Big Bang but BEFORE he got hit with it (and again being super generous) this is the reaction time you'd need to react to something going that fast if it was a meter away from you.
You would have about 35 yoctoseconds to react before it hit you. As in the shortest unit of time before Plank Length.
You can see it happen at 2:02 to 2:16 along with Ben outright stating the Onmitrix wouldn't let him die.
The watch is ridiculously fast and that's the LOWEST low ball considering the one the Omnitrix ACTUALLY reacted to got modified with a Dwarf Star that explicitly enhances any tech/person it's attached to by a thousand fold. It can literally grant people powers and shit, like teleportation/force fields and innate super strength.

All of these Plumbers/Galvan are secretly evil/fascists/bigots posts are absolutely insane. This is just one of the examples you can find of both Plumber/Galvan unfounded bs.
Tumblr media
Literally nothing in canon suggests they are anywhere near as bad as irl cops lmao.
They have therapy sessions for inmates and actively encourage them to get education.
Also like the Plumbers literally CAN'T be homophobic since there are entire species that are one gender lmao.
I hate shit like this.
Also that Galvan post is absolutely fucking insane. Like, legitimately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YOU CAN'T USE A HEADCANON TO JUSTIFY HATING AN ENTIRE SPECIES.
You see how circular that shit is right? How ridiculous?
It's like hating all cats because you once had a dream one ate the fetus of your unborn sibling.
There's absolutely ZERO indication Galvanic Mechamorphs are discriminated against and like there's literally NOTHING preventing a mass exodus if they ever wanted to leave given the fact the entire species can turn any piece of tech into a FTL capable ship if they don't just mass teleport wherever the fuck they want.
Also from now on posts like this are going under the tag #delusional ben 10
Edit
I posted the posts here as screenshots in case they delete them/edit them in the future lmao so you all know wtf I'm talking about so reblog this plz

Hahahahaha! @abcleverun that's actually a funny joke. Oh wait, you're serious?
Tumblr media
youtube
Ben would never date a racist self-proclaimed anarchist that thinks the Plumbers are secretly evil. Oh yeah and you ALSO think he's a womanizing psycho/sociopathic narcissist that only saves women to get in their pants.
Holy shit. Talk about delusional takes.
Also like you've made it abundantly clear you hate the poor boy from your delusional take on a kids narrative from not only his occupation but his skin color. Soooo why the absolute fuck would you date someone you hate everything about???
Like unless you're the world's biggest gold digger/attention whore (since he's obviously rich af from endorsements/in universe merchandise and anyone being his significant other would get stupidly famous from mere proximity) and value the former above all his negatives I don't get forcing yourself to be in a relationship with someone you despise. Like the whole point of a relationship is for both parties to be happy, support each other, and grow together as people.
Also I stipulated who in FICTION would nab him.
Jesus fucking Christ learn to read will you? This shit is painful at this point.
You wouldn't last a single date with him since he wouldn't even show up after the Plumbers do a background check on you for safety reasons. Lmaooo. Know what? I'm gonna have this be the first chapter of this fic. That shit was too funny.

Ugggggggggh. I think I now get why some of you hate Ben. Because you completely disregard context and blatantly ignore canon. I really should make a tag for shit takes like this one and that Ultimate Kevin one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of all, NO Ben isn't a bad boyfriend as I've already gone over myself and so has @xcatxgirlx , all he's done is do the best he can while keeping his priorities right. Saving lives will ALWAYS trump date/hang out time.
If anything Julie was the one always being unreasonable even when the narrative tried to make her be right. Just because Kevin and Gwen agreed with her multiple times DOESN'T mean she actually has a point since they also act OOC as fuck.
Stopping the Forever Knights will always be more important than being on time for a date since Gwen STRAIGHT UP ADMITTED that they are always trying to take over the world. Julie getting mad at Ben for consequences of his fame he can't even control (fame he's straight up admitted to not wanting) is absolute shit.
Also when the ever loving fuck did Ben EVER cheat on her??? If anything SHE'S the one who cheated on him when she got Harvey behind his back when Ben still thought they were together.
Ben has NEVER ONCE complained about all the time Julie spends on Tennis, contrary to all the times Julie was almost narcissistic in her need for Ben to prioritize her over SAVING LIVES.
