Throughout history, there have been two types of hyenas: bone-crushing hyenas, and dog-like ones. Spotted, striped, and brown hyenas are the bone-crushing type. Of the dog-like hyenas, the aardwolf is the only species left.

Aardwolf means "Earthwolf" in Afrikaans, a language spoken in Southern Africa. Their use of burrows is what earned them the "earth" part of their name. Although wolf is also in its name and it looks very dog-like, aardwolves are not canines. They are the smallest of four hyena species, weighing around 20 pounds (9.07 kg).

Unlike the other hyena species that eat carrion, aardwolves eat insects. If they really need to they can also eat eggs, small mammals, and vegetation, but insects are preferred. Their main insect prey is termites, and they can eat up to 300,000 of them in one night using their long tongues. Their tongues are very sticky as well, with large papillae (those little tongue bumps) and sticky saliva.

Since they behave differently and are much smaller than other hyena species, scientists used to think aardwolves were not part of the hyena family. With their striped coats, researchers thought they might have even been mimicking the striped hyena.

Aardwolves are found in arid plains of eastern and southern Africa, where they live in burrows dug by aardvarks, springhares, or porcupines. Some dig their own burrows, but taking over an abandoned one is much easier. They sleep in these burrows during the day, coming out at night to hunt for insects and to hang out with friends or whatever.

He thought you would’ve hated him (a thought that pains him every night because has such a huge crush on you)

So when you hand him a rather large container of cupcakes, cookies, muffins, and tarts (an inside joke between the two of you), his hope in his chance with you is restored.

He feels so spoiled, but he can’t go acting soft in fear of you viewing him as any less of a man

So, in return, he will ask Trey for assistance in making you something in return.

When the Vice Housewarden asked why, Ace started blushing so hard as he told him that you gave him a bunch of sweets and he wanted to repay the favor.

Trey laughed as he promised to keep this a secret from everyone else, and they made you some chocolates and donuts for the first year to give to you as a gift.

When he did give them to you, he was so nervous and his palms were sweaty (knees weak, arms are heavy)

“H-Here, Y/N. I made these for you, with the help of Trey. No, I’m not going soft! Shut up…”

You know the saying, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”? I feel like that’s him because it reminds him of his mother’s tender heart

He is now a man on a mission. He needed to return the favor somehow, so he goes out to Sam’s shop and browses.

Deuce comes out of the store with a bouquet of flowers and a teddy bear. Unlike Ace, he is fine with people seeing him with those items.

With every step he took towards Ramshackle, the more and more nervous he got. What if you didn’t like him and the gifts were just platonic?

Eventually, he was at the front door and he already rang the doorbell and knocked on the door, meaning there was no turning back.

Every single time this man sees you, he falls in love all over again. When you opened the door, it was no different

“Hey, P-Prefect. I got these for you and I wanted to know if you would possibly be my significant other? Oh, y-you will?” *casually faints*

Ruggie Bucchi

This hyena was very excited when you gave him a box. He could smell the distinct scent of donuts within the container intermingling with your scent

Honestly, this is probably what Heaven was to Ruggie. His crush remembers his favorite food, and made them for him and him alone.

Those donuts were probably the best he ever had because they were made by you, and that already makes them a top contender

However, as he was finishing up the last one, he started coming up with ideas on how to pay you back for your kindness

Since you made him something sweet, he decided to make you a meal that hailed from his homeland to counteract the sweetness with something savory

For the next 2 hours, he is making a dish he thinks you will like, and he even made it look presentable.

As he made his way to Ramshackle, he was getting a tad nervous. However, if you made him donuts, he knew that it was more than platonic.

You saw him through the window and invited him inside your dorm.

“Hey, Prefect. I know you made me donuts, so I made you a dish that comes from my homeland. It’s my grandmother’s recipe!”

He was blushing when you gave him the box of sweets, mainly because he never guessed you would give him anything since… you know… he overblotted and attacked you.

The Vice Housewarden opened the box to see cookies, miniature cakes, a few handmade candies, chocolates, muffins, and a couple of donuts as well.

This would keep him set for at least a few weeks, if not months. He almost didn’t want to accept this gift, but you insisted upon it

He did feel bad for not having a gift to give you at that moment, so he set about making some curry to hopefully repay you.

Mans spent a long time making sure he got the right seasoning to food ratio and that it tasted perfect. Anything subpar would not suffice.

When he set out towards Ramshackle, his hands were kind of shaking. Why would you ever like him? He was a servant…

Too late now, because he rang the doorbell and was waiting patiently for you to answer the door.

The moment you opened the door, Jamil told himself that it’s now or never.

“Good evening, Y/N. I wanted to thank you for the sweets, and in return I have made you some curry in hopes that you would agree to be my significant other. So, what’s your answer?”

Turning around, the man pulled out a long case much longer than another case he had previously, unlocking both sides he opened it and turned it around as both Ruby and Jaune looked in.

Eccentric man: Ja! Young lady vhat you are looking at is called zhe scavenger! Though some of my colleagues like to also refer to it as 'Hyena infra-dead' and yes, zhis veapon has a built-in variable/infra-red scope, but zhe specialty doesn't end their the ammo is regular 30-06 but vhen zhis veapon fire a zhot, zhe bullets explode as well as stick to surface, the blast radius is roughly 7-10 meters!

Jaune: I have never seen a sniper rifle that fires bullets that explode before. Have you Ruby?

Ruby: Honestly, no, and I'm a little miffed. I didn't think of something like that.

Jaune: But what about this gauntlet?

Eccentric man: Ah, Yah, zhis is zhe 'Gauntlet of Siegfried' something I've acquired in my numerous travels zhis gauntlet in its basic form acts as a high thrusting punch, a little similar to your zister shotgun gauntlets but it's true form comes from this...

The Eccentric Man turned around before taking something out from a bag. It was in a glass case, and it was roughly the size of Jaune's head.

He turned around and showed the two an egg.

Eccentric man: Zhis, here, believe it or not, is a Dragon Egg-

Ruby: I'm sorry I think I misheard you did you say

Ruby/Jaune: a DRAGON EGG!?

Eccentric man: Ja, our scientists vere able to restore dragons and use them for uh...purposes.

Jaune: I-Im sorry... but how are we to uh hatch it?

Ruby: Do we even have an incubator that big?

Jaune: won't it just grow?

Eccentric man: Oh ja! Zhe dragon vill probably grow very big, but as long as you loooove it und cherish it, I'm zure nothing bad will happen...zo vhen it hatches it vill be a little baby whelp and if your familiar with falconry your gauntlet has a perch for your little dragon to sit on, and vhen trained enough zhe dragon can act as your very own miniature flame thrower! Ahaha isn't zhat vunderba?

Eccentric man: zo vhat do you zhink, and exploding sniper rifle, vith your very own personal dragon?

Jaune: Huh... You know what? I'm actually kind of on board with this one.

Ruby: Really?

Jaune: Yeah, I mean, from what you've told me, 30-06 doesn't have a lot of kick to it, and I could be trained by the best sniper I know.

Ruby: (Blushes)

Jaune: And the gauntlet and egg sound like an interesting combo to add to my sword and shield. I'd just have to work in punches and learn how to train a dragon.

Eccentric Man: So ve have a deal?

Jaune: Unless you have something better, I would say yes. But there's also a lot to see around here, so we're gonna browse a bit more before saying for sure.

Eccentric Man: Wunderbar! I vill check mein vares to ensure zat nozing is missed. (Leaves)

Ruby: Wow, you, um, really like my sniping?

Jaune: Yeah! You're great at it, but that's not the only reason I got it.

Ruby: What do you mean?

Jaune: Ruby, we never mentioned Yang. How does he know you two are related?

Ruby: Oh... You're right!

Killing Eve (Remix) [x] 3x07 (Beep Beep) Wanna Ride?

4x06 - Villanelle survives the attack. Konstantin speculates that Gunn, a Twelve assassin, is behind the attack. V later meets Gunn, who slips her a note stating that she was ordered to kill her by Hélène. Eve travels to Berlin and follows Hélène to her hotel room. V kills Hélène in front of Eve then leaves. Eve tracks down Carolyn and confronts her. Eve kills Lars.

The switched-pronoun version of 'Bill' playing as Eve delicately buttons up Niko's V's shirt. And 'Mother's Been a Bad Girl' being the title of the song playing when V kills Hélène. Also, I changed the song a bit over the end montages to match the scenes better: the shift when Carolyn finds the notebook, and putting the V-having-a-breakdown-on-a-train scene from 305 here as it was a beautiful scene and fit the narrative going into next episode.

Saloum (2021)

There’s something exhilarating about when a movie grabs the viewer by the scruff of the neck and shouts, “Come along fucker, I know exactly what I’m doing.” The opening minute or so of Saloum, shifting from hallucinatory imagery of a boy wading out into the river with sun and moon arrayed overhead to a kinetic and immaculately choreographed handheld tracking shot of the Hyenas of Bangui retrieving a drug lord from Bissau shows in miniature the genre swath the film will explore. Much of the first half of the film adopts the energy of a sharp, stylish crime thriller with precise and breathless camera work accompanied by splashy graphics in an experience akin to what you might get in a Quentin Tarantino or Guy Ritchie actioner. Nodding to but never leaning heavily on the tropes of the genre, Saloum traps its protagonists, already caught back on their heels and in the middle of nowhere, in a web of tension: the camp they find themselves at harbors many threats to their survival. A sequence of conversations builds a house of cards on a knife’s edge, any false move threatening to expose the Hyenas.

While it flits at the periphery in the form of nightmare sequences early on, the Hyenas’ arrival at a strange commune in remote Saloum isn’t actually wholly a coincidence. Ringleader Chaka reveals he has a dark past as a child soldier held captive by the man now running the camp. It’s here when the film transitions rather abruptly to a horror film: spirits are present everywhere here due to the cycle of violence and anguish in the space, of which Chaka’s child slavery/soldierdom is simply the latest iteration. The entities that plague the survivors are a little silly, resembling a swarm of bees or dense cluster of ash with horns, killed all too easily except for when necessary, and the exposition dump explaining it all is a touch rapid. But it’s almost impossible for these missteps to overshadow the raw charisma of the opening half. Let the spiritualism that has been hinted at in the flashbacks and in fellow Hyena Minuit’s shamanic advisory come roaring to the fore. A mere Western isn’t enough to contain this cycle of suffering, it has to be rendered even more operatic and exorcised.

Pack animals, they appeared in my childhood nightmares to eat me.

They looked like the buffalo Beanie Baby and they would rip into my flesh like hyenas. There was usually only one at a time. They panted like dogs. They tended to run in slow motion. Once I had a non-nightmare dream where a friendly one was rowing a boat with me.

Behold! The full might of the Separatist Fleet! It seems like anyone who isn’t CIS (get it, cis like Confederacy if Independent System aka separatists, and cisgender) either goes to clubs, programs, or plays a miniatures game, so I figured I’d uphold the status quo by sharing my army! It’s for X-Wing, and before you say anything, the models are pre-painted so do not give me credit for that.

I have a soft spot for droids and cool looking ships, so although they are villainous which is something I normally don’t like playing as, they are my current faction. I mean, who wouldn’t want to play with General Grievous, Jango and Boba Fett, Count Dooku, Darth Maul, and Cad Bane?

Additionally, with those two massive ships in the back, I can play almost any other faction since the Mandalorians were fighting in many factions across the years.

Edit 05.09.23: I no longer support AI art. This has been true for a while but I haven't updated my intro. If you go back far enough you may find some art. When I first got into it I thought they used only free photo databases and only art that had entered public domain. I know this was naive now. I liked the hyperrealistic style renders that could generate character inspiration. I didn't know how much art was being stolen and how many styles were being replicated nonconsenually. Honestly when I got into it I was being very delusional. So it took me a while to accept that what was happening with AI art was happening. Using AI art tools for fun was not as completely harmless as it first appeared. I don't want to help that industry, but I do hope one day AI art could be different. Not a threat. Because the programming potential would not be a replacement of human art. AI programming is a special interest bc I think the field needs people who care about the ethics of how AI technology is used. I sometimes blog about AI art in reference to this interest in understanding the industry of AI as a whole and how it can be used for justified choices.
