New punks are puppy punks.

So what do we call the newbies in the other subcultures? Grunge, emo, scene, metalhead... I always use "baby bat" as an umbrella term but we can get more creative than that. Put your ideas in the comments!

So I’ve always thought, and it’s been reinforced by fanfiction, that Dick re-named all the gear to have Bat- prefixes (ex. The Batcomputer, Bat-A-Rangs, Batmobile, etc)

but I’ve been watching “The Batman” 2004 animated series and in one episode there’s a whole joke that Dick makes about Bruce and Lucius naming everything to go with the bat theme, and they refer to all the gear with bat prefixes long before Dick or Barbara join the Batfam,

So I just wanted to put that knowledge forth, because “9 year old names all of his gadgets” is adorable, but “20 year old picks bat themed names for all his equipment to match his mission to save Gotham in a bat suit” is absolutely hilarious.

And yes! It was hard to pick a real name, I almost went with "Roux" I think, but Reinette Rose seemed to fit the most after my research. And I like how Reine (even though Reinette is technically the diminutive, Reine is shorter, so I tend to use it as a nickname - Rie is pretty much the only channel through which I'm researching French if you couldn't tell 😭) fits too. Plus, a Reine Rose, or Queen Victoria rose, looks like this:

And I think that's very Rie-ish.

There are two wolves inside me when naming things. One is a name from some ancient mythology with a long and intense origin and deep philosophical meaning that I have done extensive research on, or it’s Bob, and there’s no inbetween

So happy that the BTVS fandom switched from using the term Jossverse or Whedonverse to Buffyverse. It centers the hero and the star and fuck that other guy. Hell yeah!

Happy Thursday! You have some interesting names in your WIPs—how do you come up with them? Is there a naming convention you use, or do you flip through sounds until it feels right? What character do you think has the coolest name, and can you tell us about them?

HI!!!!!! And thank you for the ask!!!

I LOVE coming up with names for my characters and my WIPs! I sometimes use behindthename.com and seventhsanctum.com to use names and then name generators! I actually got the name Di-Ne from a planet name generator from seventh sanctum and then later changed it to Dai-Nē for pronunciation's sake cause people were pronouncing it dee-nay instead of die-nee.

My character Tursanay was from a mix of name sites and a name generator, then I used Behind the name to pick a T name for her father because I wanted her to kind of be named after him but I found Tyrus which means "rock" as in something you can form a foundation on which was important for Tursanay to have in her younger years and thought it was fitting. Then I took Tursanay and Tyrus and made a third name: Kursani - her mother and basically reverse-shipped named Tursanay after her parents. Tyrus + Kursani = Tursanay: A spitfire with a big heart.

I kind of suck at title names sometimes for my WIPs even though I love coming up with them? Like take Curiosity Killed the Elf - stroke of genius. She's curious like a cat, she's an elf, she nearly gets herself killed every chapter just about, but satisfaction brings her back from dying each time.

But then look at Love Triangle Gone Wrong - kind of on point, but not really a selling point. (*I* don't care I *love* it, but will the audience? idk).

I think my favorite character name besides Tursanay and her parents has to be Nindë [Nihn-day]. She was my first OC and I just love her to pieces. While she does somewhat look like me - the long red hair - everything else is different. Size, shape, eye color. We're nothing alike. She likes to fight, steal, run, ride horses, and I like to write, create, relax and pet cats. She likes summer and I hate it. She and I would not get along irl, but I think she's great and love her morals.

She's very black and white when it comes to how people are treated. If you're mean to people you perceive as beneath you, she hates you instantly. However, when she realizes there's more to one side to people and that you can be misconstrued as rude instead of what you were going for, she softens that black and white view and stops judging people so harshly. She starts out very prideful and ends up very mellowed out.
