Snopes.com was THE fact-checking / lie-debunking website in the 2000s, covering everything from lighthearted fare like "is this a picture of Bigfoot?" to rumors about Iraq War, which at the time often spread via chain emails or Dick Cheney.

Well, Snopes still exists and I encourage you to check it out. They will investigate until they find the primary source of a photo, a quote, an article. This is especially important in a world where AI is increasingly able to fool the human eye and human ear.

I hope this wasn’t absolute arse as I started like some of this late in the night so there are probs inconsistencies.

Since there is a lot of misinformation when it comes to the "incident" that got Joost Klein disqualified I figured I'd put a post out with information from actual news outlets and not speculations from social media users.

If you are too lazy to read everything, here's a summary of everything I've been able to find:

After his performance in the semi finale, Joost was filmed despite agreements he wouldn't be.

The camera woman did not listen when he asked her to stop several times.

Joost got angry and made the camera woman in question feel so threatened the police was called on Joost.

Despite what fans think, it was confirmed by Dutch commentator Cornald Maas that the Israeli act and their delegation were not involved. I understand the frustration with their participation and I ranted about their disgusting behaviour at Eurovision here, but they were not involved with this incident.

He did not hit or even touch the woman involved.

Nor did she make any remarks about his parents.

Edited only for later addition (as indicated) and slightly changed the wording because I was rambling in the initial post.

According to Avrotros (the Dutch broadcaster of Eurovision), Joost had made a threatening motion towards the woman.

According to the Swedish Aftonbladet, multiple witnesses say he behaved very aggressively and damaged/broke(?) the camera.

The rest of this will be speculating. Hopefully as unbiased as possible.

Based on other interviews and discussions about the incident in Dutch media, it sounds like Joost was probably just very overwhelmed. It is reasonable to think the artists are under a lot of pressure to perform well, and it's fair to conclude the controversy of Israel's participation has only added to artists' frustration and the pressure. Add the whole aspect of this being Joost's childhood dream and the passing of his parents and the fact he had already complained about the many many rules of eurovision and you get this explosion of emotions and frustrations. Apparently he also gets very emotional during the outro, and I imagine such a performance does come with loads of adrenaline.

Considering that nice little cocktail of stress, frustrations, emotions and adrenaline, it is likely he just snapped. He was already on the edge, and then the employee filmed him when he didn't want to be filmed and didn't back off when he asked her to, so he did something stupid and irrational.

That is a human response, I don't think he's a bad person for that, I just think he did something stupid in the heat of the moment. If it was something really bad he would've been arrested and locked up, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. That does not mean he should go unpunished, however.

Whatever he did, he made this photographer/camera woman (sources alternate between which one it was) feel so threatened the police got involved. I trust this judgement.

Don't get me wrong, I do think she should have stopped filming when she was asked, but we don't know the full story here. She could have misunderstood the situation, maybe she was unaware of the agreement she should not have been filming him, maybe it was just a stupid mistake.

Regardless of what truly happened, I hope we can all agree both were in the wrong but both have also been punished enough now.

The employee in question should not have been filming in the first place and stopped when asked.

Joost should not have done whatever it was he did.

For the love of god, please stop meddling in situations we know virtually nothing about and definitely stop taking sides. It is never ok to wish horrible things upon anyone.

We don't know what happened and chances are we will never fully know. We don't even know any of these people, we don't know what they are like, we only have little bits and pieces.

I also really want to know but it's not that difficult to just shut up and not say anything in favour of or against anyone until we have more details. You can condemn people for their actions but not when we don't even know what those actions were.

They both should have been punished and they both were.

A bunch of you should have been punished for the vile things I've seen you spout about Joost or this poor woman.

Basic fucking decency and common sense is not that difficult.

I posted this about an hour ago but I want to add I do support Joost and feel bad for him but if it is true he punched and broke a camera it disqualification was not an unreasonable punishment. The awful rumours were just an unnecessary kick in the stomach.

If it turns out he did not damage the camera I will happily eat my words.

It is a pity he did not perform in the grand finale considering the huge potential it had but we can't excuse that behaviour. I hope he learns from this situation enough to prevent himself from getting in more trouble.

On The Amnestic Issue

The issue of strong amnestic drugs is not a highly publicized one. It is not a polarizing topic of debate like immigration, reproductive rights, or the human pet industry. Most people do not even have a strong opinion on amnestics. They are not front and center in the public view. The pharmaceutical industry and its supporters have done an excellent job of suppressing debate.

This is not an issue to take up lightly as a bit of collegiate activism to soothe the soul. Even to write about the topic is to invite lawsuit, defamation, and harassment. You probably haven’t heard much about anti-amnestic activists, not because we don’t exist but because that is how effectively we are silenced. I have friends who have been jailed for speaking out, and many more who have been publicly targeted, harassed, accused, and made into laughing stocks.

This is not an issue to take up unless you truly feel passionately about it.

But I am passionate, and I think you should be too. I think we all should be. 

Detractors will attempt to paint anti-amnestic discourse as radical left wing pet-lib propaganda. They will attempt to paint us as far right anti-vaxxer paranoids lashing out against the medical industry. But the amnestic issue ought to concern you regardless of your political alignment.#

Whatever your stance on the human pet industry, whatever your stance on pharmacological reform, the amnestic issue goes far further than either of those. This is not about criminals or contractees, although they form part of the picture. This is primarily about the effects of strong amnestic drugs in the general population, the failure of our government and regulators to protect us from unregulated use, and the complete lack of unbiased, verifiable information about amnestic safety even in a medical context.

Use of prescription amnestics has more than doubled in just the last three years, despite the complete lack of any independent studies demonstrating benefits in the vast majority of use cases. Un-monitored, un-reported “home use” is estimated at anywhere between half as many people again, and three times as many, and in many cases these unprescribed drugs are being used to “medicate” entirely non-medical issues such as domestic quarrels.

Crime involving the forced administration of strong amnestics to unconsenting victims is estimated to have increased twenty-fold since these substances were first approved for prescription. The volume of illegal amnestics circulating in the black market is completely unknown, and the lack of separation between the markets for aggressive criminal use and for unregulated “self-medication” is bringing naive would-be patients into contact with hardened drug dealers and organized crime.

In the context of our progressively failing criminal justice system, some victims are even administering the “cover up pills” to themselves rather than face the traumatic experience of trying to push a report through to court. In a recent survey, 20% of university students said that if they were victims of “date rape” they would rather take a pill and forget, than take the issue to the police. Cited reasons included shame, fear of stigmatization, fear that the police would do nothing, and, conversely, fear that the police would respond with excessive force.

Perhaps most troubling of all, the second most popular reason given was simply that taking an amnestic would be “less effort”. The same attitude is reflected in a growing media trend towards portraying drug-induced forgetting as the “easy option” : a quick, effortless, and effective solution to any and all of life’s problems. 

Needless to say there is no evidence to support the idea that amnestic abuse actually improves happiness, health, or any other measure of wellbeing. And it should be beyond obvious that choosing to forget certain problems such as unpaid bills, unsettled debts, or an angry spouse will not actually cause these problems to go away.

Even industry giants such as Santex Pharma and WRU have recently put out statements advising against unregulated, unsupervised home use. These statements describe the medical applications and the use in the pet industry (respectively) as highly controlled, carefully monitored use cases and not comparable to the growing trend of unlicensed use. Santex state, both in their recent statement and elsewhere, that every approved use of their strong amnestics has been rigorously safety tested and found both safe and effective. They cite a number of published studies, in addition to an undisclosed quantity of private, internal investigation.

Every single published study involving strong amnestics was either conducted or funded by a manufacturer of strong amnestics, a business that uses strong amnestics as a core part of their business model (i.e. the human pet industry), or a subsidiary of one of these businesses.

There are no published independent studies. All attempts at independent studies have been heavily suppressed by the above industries, or else taken over by these business interests long before completion. It has long been well known – if rarely successfully prosecuted – that pharmaceutical companies regularly misuse statistics, massage data, and even outright fabricate results to produce conclusions that are favorable to their bottom line.

Even those few independent investigators who have resisted the pressure exerted by the industry have found that no reputable publication – scientific or otherwise – will take on the risk of publishing their results if they fail to corroborate the claims of safety. When such studies are made publically available on the internet they are invariably taken down within weeks or even days, and the authors – if remotely identifiable – can expect a slew of life-ruining lawsuits. In many cases even criminal charges have been leveled against such investigators.

Consequently it is extremely difficult to form an accurate picture of the extent and form of the risks posed by the use of strong amnestics. However, certain themes come up over and over in these vanished studies. The use of strong amnestics, especially but not exclusively long term or at high doses, has been associated with any or all of the following:

cognitive decline or impairment

anterograde amnesia (loss of the ability to reliably form new long term memories)

anxiety and depression

emotional instability and dysregulation

intrusive thoughts

increased rates of suicide

increased mortality (all causes)

false recall (remembering fictive events as if they were real, or events that happened to other people as if they happened to oneself)

nightmares, night terrors, insomnia and other sleep disturbances

migraines, cluster headaches, and other forms of headache

increased impulsivity

increases vulnerability to addiction

impaired executive function (difficulty making and adhering to plans, reduced decision-making ability)

While none of the above symptoms have been conclusively linked to amnestics on account of the industry stranglehold on data, it is worth noting that the incidence of all of the above problems in the general population has increased sharply over the last few years, with no other obvious explanation for the increase.

Some of the most striking evidence has come from the study of parents who made the choice to forget a child when that child entered into the human pet industry. The fact that WRU discontinued this as an official service after only a year and a half speaks volumes. But small numbers of parents (and an unknown number of other friends and relatives of new human pets) continue to seek out this option either under the supervision of a medical professional or independently “at home” with illicitly procured amnestics.

While the desire to forget is perhaps an understandable response to the loss of a child or loved one, the outcomes of such a choice are rarely happy. Suicide rates in this group are extremely high, as are rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses. 

Testimonials can be found on parenting boards across the web urging other parents not to make the same decision. They describe intense feelings of guilt, crushing anxiety, dread and/or a sense of “impending doom”, and a constant, gnawing awareness of the period of “lost time”. Feelings of hopelessness, futility and lack of purpose or fulfillment are extremely common.

One mother described the feeling as not only having lost her now-unremembered child, but also having lost herself.

The wider societal impact of amnestic abuse is also making itself felt as the prevalence rises year on year. Courts have already agreed that forgetting a crime or other offense does not absolve the perpetrator of any guilt or responsibility, but how exactly to handle such cases is far from settled. 

Detractors of pharmacological reform are quick to point out the double standard here. Amnesia can be enforced by the state in the name of correcting entrenched behavioral patterns and preventing reoffense, but those who have already self-administered this treatment are still considered just as guilty and just as likely to reoffend as if they had not forgotten.

Neither is it clear how to help or compensate victims of amnestic-related crimes. The use of amnestics to cover up crimes – most commonly date rape – is nothing new. Even prior to the invention of the modern drug class, weak amnestics such as alcohol and benzodiazepines have long been used for this purpose. However, the rise of the strong amnestic has both expanded the criminal’s toolkit for cover-ups and opened entire new spheres of crime.

Every month it seems that allegations of a new kind of crime hit the courts, from corporate espionage cases in which corporate agents are accused of using amnestics to wipe ideas, trade secrets, or experience in the field from their competitors, to domestic abuse allegations involving the long term use of amnestics to keep the victim ignorant of their own abuse. While some of these cases are clearly less plausible than others, there can be no doubt that criminal elements are hard at work finding new ways to abuse these substances.

If you follow the mainstream news cycle, you are also doubtless already aware of the rise of “perpetual amnesiacs” – a small but highly visible minority of amnestic “addicts” who take the drugs repeatedly in high doses to forget practically everything. 

(While strong amnestics are not physiologically addictive drugs like heroin or cocaine, phenomena such as gambling addiction and pornography addiction have long taught us that people can become addicted to all manner of things that are not physiologically addictive drugs.)

These “perpetual amnesiacs” usually have substantial problems before the amnestic abuse. They may be homeless, in debt, stuck in abusive relationships, or addicted to other substances. They begin taking the amnestics to forget their very real troubles. What separates the addict from other “home users” is the very high doses involved, and the taking of additional doses as soon as further difficulties arise. 

These afflicted individuals become increasingly disengaged from life, drifting from one short term pleasure (often other substances of abuse) to another, and taking additional amnestics whenever consequences threaten to disrupt their existence in the moment.

Most become homeless if they were not already, and over time almost all develop severe symptoms from the list above. Reporting has focused particularly on impulsivity, cognitive decline, and anterograde amnesia. We hear of the violent deaths of addicts killed attempting the wildly ill-conceived crimes that their impulsivity leads them into.

Eventually the “perpetual amnesiac” needs no further doses of the amnestics, because their ability to form new memories has been completely destroyed. 

Despite industry insistence that these sobering results are only a result of the extremely high doses taken by the addicts, the recent news coverage has awoken public fears regarding the safety of strong amnestics. 

However, reporting of these concerns has been notably muted and seems to have almost ceased as I write these words. All major news agencies seem to now prefer to parrot the company line that it is the quantity and the frequency that is the problem, not the drugs themselves. One can only imagine that money or favors have changed hands to facilitate this shift in focus.

One can only hope that the public will remember nonetheless, and that the plight of these most severely affected “perpetual amnesiacs” will prompt at least a few to look into the effect that amnestic drugs are having on us as individuals and as a society, and that we might start to look beyond the horizon of the company line.

Pluto in Aquarius: My list of predictions I

As an Astrologer of 9 years, I decided to make a list of my predictions about the Pluto in Aquarius era (2023-2043).

Children born during this period will be the ones to bring the change into the world we have been waiting for (In both positive and negative ways). I believe this will be the generation no one will have control over. The unbiased generation that could be focused on their own world and approach to it. They will be united and fight for greater causes. Compared to the Pluto in Sagitarius (a very free approach to life, no sense of union but a strong desire for independence), Pluto in Scorpio (carries the weight of the previous generations on their shoulders, possibly the generation that is most affected by their trauma), Pluto in Libra (better sense of union than the generations after them, but more focus on the surface), I believe that the Pluto in Aquarius generation will be one that is truly connected to each other.

If we thought that there was growth in technology up to now, the upcoming 20 years will be something even greater. Possible digitalization of everything. This is an assumption of most people, even those without interest in Astrology. Regardless, I find correlation between Astrology and all Pluto "eras" up to now. Pluto in Leo (pride, nationalism, theme of the era and qualities of the people born in that era). Pluto in Scorpio (the 80s and 90s grunge era, major focus on sexuality and sexual openness compared to before). Even as a person without a deep interest (or knowledge) in history, I find major similarities in the period of history and the astrology during it.

AI and anything like ChatGPT will be used in day to day life. I find it easy to believe that many jobs could be replaced with AI (for better or for worse). Would this mean more leisure for humans or more difficulty? No one knows yet.

Until the Pluto in Aquarius babies grow, I believe we will go through a comeback of tradition, conservative values due to Pluto in Capricorn and the upcoming generation, which are heavily influenced by pseudo-conservative or conservative figures. I have observed than more and more people seek to come back to traditional gender roles (femininity gurus, men who influence men to be traditional, etc.).

There will be major clashes between the previous generations and the Pluto in Aquarius generation and the world may get into a total chaos. Is this a prediction? Not really.

Apart from the science, technology assumptions, I believe the Pluto in Aquarius era will inspire a newfound desire for freedom in people. At the same time I believe there will be unity, desire to help, focus on humanitarinism and social issues. People will fight for the causes they are passionate about and will seek to help others. This will bring back the community, desire for social interaction, closeness between people. Although Aquarius is connected to detachment, it is the sign that represent social union, uniting for the best of everyone, fighting for our mutual desires.

Will this be the true Age of Aquarius? I guess time will tell.

So I've been seeing a lot of discourse lately about minors and smut. Is it ok for them to read it? To write it? Etc etc...

And so I wanted to share my own opinion and please, I would love to know your opinions as well (you can comment, reblog or anonymously send an ask to voice your opinion about the matter) and let's keep this respectful and civilized 💕

Alright so first things first, I myself wrote smut for the first time when I was 15 years old (I'm currently 18) and posted it on my insta account which didn't have my age on it and I was never asked to disclose my age on it either.

I've personally never seen anyone express their discontent with minors writing smut until this year. I'm sure I've just never come across it and it's actually been a big point of discussion for a long time and I was just never aware of that.

Now , before I go on and talk about things in more detail, let me say one thing:

‼️If you're uncomfortable with the fact that I used to be a minor who wrote smut then please, block me and move on with your life. I'm simply here to share my opinion ; as someone who has experienced being in the fanfiction community (as a reader first then later as a writer) since the age of like 11 or 12; freely and discuss this topic with people who are open to have a genuine conversation.‼️

With that out of the way, let's continue.

What's the situation all about?

To put it simply, a certain amount of writers are expressing their discomfort about minors reading their work and/or them reading smut written by minors and/or seeing minors writing smut and posting it.

(if you're one the people who doesn't like minors writing smut , can you please explain it in detail? I would love to hear your opinion and have you share it so that people can understand the situation from the p.o.v of someone who's directly affected by it)

How do I feel about minors reading/writing smut and posting it on the internet?

I feel complete and utter indifference towards this situation, that is why I feel like a neutral and unbiased opinion like my own is needed in this discussion.

Now, would I go out of my way to read and/or interact with a smut writer if I knew they are a minor? Absolutely not. But I do not care if they read my work and enjoy it. My work is posted publicly and I'm not interested in monitoring who reads it and who doesn't.

Should minors read and/or write smut?

Should or shouldn't they is truly up for debate and depends on the person.

What I'm interested in pointing out is the fact that they can and they will do so if they're determined enough.

Now do you ,as a writer and/or reader, have the right to be uncomfortable and have the right to set your boundaries? Absolutely yes you do, however that doesn't change the fact that kids are determined and will find a way.

Is it possible to get rid of minors in the nsfw writing space?

No. No , it's not a possibility. No matter how much you shame them and berate them , no matter how much you ask nicely and beg them to leave , minors have always been and will always be part of the nsfw writing community in one way or another.

And I believe it's not possible to get rid of minors in the nsfw writing community because they are kids. Let me explain.

They are underdeveloped humans. Majority of them do not understand nor do they comprehend why someone would feel uncomfortable towards them being part of this community. Most of them are simply not capable of understanding even if you explain it thoroughly.

Now you can , in fact, scare them off and berate them and shame them and attack them to make them leave. Yes, you can do that , but should you?

Being hostile or passive aggressive won't wield a positive result. On the off chance that they leave the community or delete their content after your confrontation , they could easily come back with a new account, a new identity and lie their way through to avoid your hostility towards them. And believe me , I've seen it happen before.

Not only would you be wasting your time by shaming them into leaving, but you'll also be encouraging other minor smut writers who witness your behavior to lie about their age as an attempt to avoid people like you. And that would only complicate the situation more.

What to do if you're uncomfortable with minor smut writers in general

Block them and move on. Trying to kick them out of the community won't work since even if you succeed they can always come back like I already stated in the previous section.

Is there a solution to this issue?

I personally don't believe there is a perfect solution that will satisfy everyone but I have come up with a solution where we can all meet in the middle. I don't believe that it's a perfect solution but it's the best solution that I could come up with. (Please don't be shy and let me know what you think is the best solution)

My solution to this issue

As I've already stated , I don't believe getting rid of minors in this community is possible so that option is off the table for me.

I think we should encourage minors to be honest about their age , that way whoever is uncomfortable with them can avoid them and block them.

Like I said before , I'm well aware this solution has its flaws and it's not perfect by any means, however I believe this is the most civilized solution we can use. If we can have minors disclose their ages truthfully, we can separate the community into multiple sections , one of those sections will house the minors all together, far away from interacting with adults who are uncomfortable with being in the same space with them.

Again , I would love to hear your opinion about this situation if you're part of the nsfw writing community, and I would love to have a nice , civilized and respectful conversation with anyone who's willing to talk. I want to broaden my understanding of the situation and having these types of discussions is the best way to do so.

Silver's Flower Bouquet Meaning

Twst Bdays Flower Language Masterlist

*stares at the title* You have no idea how much I just want to put Silver Vanrouge as the title of this post. You have no Idea, I might still go back and do it. He is Silver Vanrouge in my heart and will always will be (or whatever combination of last names he takes up in the future).

Just as a precaution, I will be adding possible theories along the way and will be mentioning book 7 too and other cards that have been released, so heed spoilers for book 7 and cards that might have not released yet. I swear Diasomia just makes my mind go brr and I have no chill at all (or limit on word count).

This card is literally everything and more when it comes to Silver. We get his rare expressions and I love it. His fond smile that he has for family and then the surprised look he has in the groovy is perfect.

As with the other Birthday cards in twst, we can see the progress in each character (especially their relationship with MC). We can see how each one basically goes through a character development, and surely Silver is going through one as well.

For someone who has always had trouble with his emotions, it really comes out when it deals with those he loves. As we see in Endless Halloween, when he got mad at Lilia, as is rightly deserved. In book 7, we see a variety of emotions, but mostly sadness again due to Lilia. Other events include, masquerade and fair gala if. Otherwise, he always has a straight forward, nice, and truthful manner to the surprise of the NRC student 😂😂

A part of me theorizes that this is due to the fact that Lilia taught him to be such a way. He raised Silver to be someone who is the total opposite of him: someone without blood on his hands, someone who does not have to kill, someone with a family, who is not corrupt, and the list goes on. The opposite of what Lilia never was and never will be. We can also see how Silver has light symbolism while Lilia has dark as well. (I swear I had the perfect line thought up but then mind went blank because I got distracted, damnit).

Yes, Silver is Malleus' guard, but a part of me believe that Lilia thought Silver will be protected by Malleus and Sebek. After all, a human is only so powerful. That is also why Lilia trained Silver and Sebek the way he did.

Now to go back to the point about Silver always being truthful, Fae in many lore cannot lie. Hence, they are masters in manipulation and can twist words to their advantage. I believe that was why Silver was raised to be truthful because Fae cannot and look down on those who try to do so with them. (I mean, can we ever say Sebek has not been truthful?)

Also the last name aspect, names have power in Fae lore so that could be a reason why Silver doesn't have a last name (A father must protect his son after all, be him human or not). Another reason is that Lilia didn't want Silver to have the burden that comes with the name of "Vanrouge" even though we know Silver would be proud to have it. Plus, we don't know who SIlver's true family is and I believe Lilia did not want to take that option away from Silver. Let Silver decide his last name when the time comes. Let him be truly unbiased in choosing his name.

Let's try and not think about the insecurities that Silver might have faced (and still does) when he realized that he had no last name and Lilia did not give him his and can he be selfish to ask more of Lilia when he gave him so much already? Though Silver's heart probably still breaks because ...does Lilia consider him family when he won't give him his last name...anyways let's continue on before I got down that endless vortex.

When I first looked at Silver's bouquet, it reminded me of a wedding bouquet because of all the white. But given that white is usually seen as a color that depicts innocence, pure, and so forth. It fits Silver pretty well. He is the light in the darkness. The light among the dark fae.

Like with Malleus' Bouquet card, Twst has once again made some interesting moves. They are releasing Book 7 part 3 at the end of May. Which can signify what may come and how Silver may play a role. This goes to show that Malleus and Silver does have parallels as we've saw with Malleus Bouquet card and Silver Dorm card being released in the same month. Another commonality is both being raised by Lilia as well and whom is loved dearly by these two. (and Sebek is in the middle of family drama lol)

As we saw with Malleus' bouquet, his cards attributes are similar to Idia's. With Idia being Silver's Duo (which is surpassing because its a repeat I believe?), it stresses the role Ignihyde will play in book 7. I mean we've all seen Ortho's new card right? It already begins.

Now, lets talk about Flowers 🌺💚🌺💚

[As usual, my disclaimer from before stands, flowers have many different meanings depending on region and color, so the meanings I have might differ from the meanings you know.]

Flower Colors (general meaning): 

Green Flowers: Health, resilience, good fortune, and youth. It goes to say that these traits fit Silver perfectly.

White Flowers:  True love, purity, innocence, sympathy.  As someone with Aurora's characteristics and being raised the way he was, these flowers (and the bouquet as a whole) fits Silver perfectly.

Bouquet:

White Rose: Reverence, remembrance, homage to a new start and expresses hope for a new future, devotion and innocence. The white rose has a special place in my heart because we see it in Lilia's Groom and Birthday bouquet card. The fact that we see this flower in Silver's card gives it new meaning as well as represents Lilia in Silver's bouquet. (Actually, there are two other flowers that show up in Silver's bouquet that was in Lilia's bouquet. The love and parallels between father and son has my heart I swear.) Another thing to note, in many asian cultures White represents purity and grief as that is a color you use in funerals. Now, does that represent Lilia or Silver? Only time will tell.

White Tulips: Lost love, forgive me, forgiveness, respect, purity and honor. This flower has a loaded meaning and can represent many aspects of Book 7. It could talk about SIlver's parents or Lilia, could talk about an act yet to be made, and as seen, it has many traits that symbolize Silver as well.

Gardenias: Purity, divine, awareness, and gentleness. Silver has the title of Knight of Dreams so this could be a hint at his Unique Magic.

Evergreen Candytuft: Indifference and stoicism but could also mean joy, beauty, and sweetness. This flower symbolizes the difficulties Silver faces. He had trouble expressing himself and sometimes comes off as indifferent or lacking emotion. In his Dorm card, he tries to change that. On the other hand, this flower also shows the qualities we all already know about him: his beauty and how prince like he is. One of the uses of this flower that I found that was funny to me was that they often use this flower to combat heartburn. Lilia complained about stomach issues in the fireworks event and I don't doubt that Lilia's cooking can cause...acid.

White Carnation: Love, good luck, purity, devotion, mother's love (well, it was woman's love to be put exactly) and pure affection. This is another flower that is also in Lilia's Bouquet. So we can say this flower represents Lilia's love for Silver, especially with the meaning of "mother's love." This flower also has my heart because of the recent Twst radio talk where the VA's state that Lilia is both the mother and father to the Diasomnia boys. White flowers in Japan can also represents mothers as well. I headcanon that Lilia gave this flower to Silver.

Crystallofolia: Its also called Frost flower. These flowers form during the winter on the stems. You can sometimes see them in autumn as well. Fun fact, you can see imagery of these flowers in greek art as well.

White Peonies: Shame, shyness, and apology. good luck, prosperity, also know as the ‘king of flower in Japan’ and is known for bravery and honor. Peonies can last over a hundred years, often outliving the ones who planted them. This is another flower that was also in Lilia's bouquet. We can see how the meanings can apply to both Lilia and Silver. Silver for Bravery and Honor. Lilia and how he might have possibly lived longer than Silver at one point, now we don't know how much longer he has left. Shame because Silver wanted to be there by his father's side but he couldn't because Lilia is emotionally stubborn. Another headcannon I have is that Silver would plant this flower for Lilia, so Lilia would always remember him as well as Malleus and Sebek (I doubt any of the Diasomnia boys would ever forget Silver but the symbolism remains). It's a living reminder of Silver after hundreds of years and the mark he left behind in their hearts and they can continue to see and remember him fondly through it.

Jasmine: Love, beauty, innocence, new beginnings, victory, hope, and abundance. The constant 'new beginning" meanings makes me wonder if this is referring to his heritage and Silver being a prince from an opposing kingdom theory (or any theory in which he's a prince honestly).

Random Fact: Anniversaries could also be considered, since its the 3rd bdays for all the boys, their flower will be Sunflower: strength  be well, happiness, male healing, confidence, self-esteem, assertiveness. Sounds just like them, doesn’t it?

Reflection

(A short and angsty Soul Eater fic about Stein. It includes Spirit, and makes reference to other characters, as well. This has yet to be proofread.)

Stein is an observer. That much is for certain. Observation and analysis/and or dissection make up the man’s entire life. Stein has always been good at remaining an unbiased and neutral observer, as he himself is naturally rather indifferent towards the majority of things. While subjective experiences could cloud one’s thinking, everything else is essentially off the table for him. He is a natural.

But there are times, as few and far between as they may be, in which the phenomena he observes leaves him with feelings of which he is unable to effectively discern and label. All that he is able to label them as is “unpleasant”.

This was one of those times.

Stein was currently attending one of the many parties hosted by the DWMA. The party was celebratory in nature, existing to celebrate the anniversary of the DWMA’s founding. It was being held within the confines of a grand ballroom. The ballroom had beautiful marble floors, and on all of the large white walls were an assortment of various different decorations. There was a band - per the usual - playing loud ballroom music. The adults were joyfully intoxicating themselves, and the children stuck to the readily available punch. Everyone danced. Stein could see a large collection of souls, all gathered, all sweetly happy, resonating with one another. So many people were smiling, laughing… Stein witness the connecting of an impressive amount of people. They all had fun, not having a care in the world. Exposing themselves vulnerably to one another. Sweetly. Like in some sort of happy-go-lucky Hallmark film.

And that’s when he felt it.

He himself was standing farther away from the clumps of humans, his back to the fancy wall.

Everyone seemed so far away, despite being somewhat close.

He held his glass of champagne, looking off into space, dissociating.

He felt a sense of emptiness.

He felt as though he did not belong in this room. He felt as though he was only invited out of obligation, out of pity, out of a desire to be “nice”.

He was never meant to be here.

‘What am I even doing here? This is not me. It never was.’ Stein thought to himself.

After all, Stein knew it himself.

He is nothing like anyone currently surrounding him.

He is unable to love.

To connect.

To empathize.

He does not feel any sense of guilt, remorse, shame, humiliation…

He might as well have been stripped of what makes a human a human.

The only thing he truly wants to do is whatever he wants to do. The only thing he desires is to dissect.

‘Why am I even here? None of these people even really like me. They just think that I’m possibly lonely. They are merely intrigued. Who knows? Perhaps they are even plotting against me. Yes. The DWMA has been doing as such from the very beginning. They’ll use

me for what they would like, and end me when he is no longer of use. That is, after all, the only reason I am kept around. Individuals such as myself always end up on Lord Death’s kill list. The only reason why I am

not is because of my intellect, my intelligence. Because my “psychopathic” traits come in handy when no one else can properly separate themselves from a situation. Why am I even here? I don’t truly care about anything this place stands for. Why am I-‘

“Stein?”

Stein hears a voice, but cannot seem to bring himself to respond, or to even process the sound and who even spoke.

“Hey, Stein? Can you hear me?”

A relatively large and soft looking hand waves in front of his zoned out face.

“Spirit?” Stein dimly mumbled, finally processing the newfound sensory information. Stein, from Spirit’s eyes, looked exhausted, the dark circles and bags lying under his eyes even more prominent. His eyes were wide open, face expressionless. He looked stiff and seems to have been standing in the same position for a prolonged period of time. He almost seemed a bit tense.

“What are you doing back here, weirdo?” Spirit asks playfully, though his voice wavered in clear concern. Spirit looked as though he felt a sense of pity for Stein in this present moment. Stein didn’t know how he should feel about that.

“I’m not much of a partygoer,” Stein replied flatly, sounds almost breathless and in need of air. He sounded so terribly tired, as though he had been reaching for something unattainable for all of his life. As though he’s just barely been holding himself together. As though he’s exhausted all of his energy. Not to mention the fact that he’s not even looked at Spirit once.

“Yeah, I know. But it wouldn’t hurt you to let loose a little and dance some. Haha,” Spirit laughs, sounding almost nervous.

“Have you even taken a sip of that champagne? Or perhaps you’ve had a little too much of it? I know I have! Haha,” Spirit laughs once more, nudging Stein’s shoulder. Stein did not budge. He, instead, continued to fix his gaze on nothing at all.

“Spirit?”

“Yes, Stein?”

“What could you possibly want with me?”

Spirit was left ultimately dumbfounded and incredibly confused at the younger’s question. Though the music continued to play, and students and staff alike continued to dance and converse, it felt as though time had frozen entirely. Only Spirit himself and Stein existed in this present moment.

“What do you mean, Stein? I’m not sure I understand your question.”

“Why are you here? What do you have to gain from speaking with me? Is there something you want? Is it all a part of some master plan? Are you even real? Is this party real? Are you all a mere figment of my imagination? A reflection of what I’ve never, and will never have?”

Upon asking those questions, Stein looked over at Spirit for the first time that night. The look in his lifeless eyes left Spirit wondering if the scientist ever even had a soul, or at least whether or not he was born with one, and simply just created the one he supposedly had for himself as an experiment.

Stein looked so worn.

Spirit had no idea what to even say. And that was obvious by the speechless look on his face. Stein simply stood there, staring at the older, beginning to twitch and fidget with his fingers as he impatiently awaited a response.

And when Stein had only received a confused face as a reply, he spoke up with:

“Did Lord Death send you here to watch over me?”

And that’s when it truly hit Spirit.

Stein thinks that the only reason Spirit is even speaking with him is because he was tasked with it. Not out of any genuine desire nor care.

And in a way, it was true to some extent. Due to being given explicit instructions to watch over the man, he did feel a sense of obligation. And Spirit had vocally expressed his annoyance for “having to deal with” Stein. Not to mention the fact that their relationship had begun as a glorified task.

Spirit was assigned Stein as a meister by Lord Death. Spirit has always been tasked with carefully watching over the boy’s behavior and mental state, and keeping him out of trouble.

What reason would he have to believe he even had Spirit as a friend?

What reason would he have to believe that Spirit truly had his back, and that their relationship is not only business and work?

There was no reason.

“We’re partners,” was the only response Spirit could emit.

“And because of that you feel obligated,” Stein stated, not even asked.

“Well.. I do care for you..”

“It’s okay to admit it, Spirit.”

It didn’t feel okay.

Not when the younger man’s voice sounded so gut-wrenchingly empty when saying that.

Not when he knew Stein recognized that in other’s eyes, he was something only to fix and deal with, as opposed to something to simply love.

He was never going to be viewed in a typical way. But that was because he also wasn’t your typical guy.

Spirit fixed his eyes on his black dress shoes. He swore he could see his own reflection staring back at him, if not in his shoes, then in the marble flooring. His own guilty, remorseful reflection.

He could see that Stein was staring at him solemnly from his peripheral vision. Spirit’s head felt too heavy to move to stare back. Well, and he was also a little nervous to look back, given the fact that he knew the expression on Stein’s face would probably make him feel even worse, despite being so unreadable.

But alas, he raised his head anyway, scratching the back of his newly raised head in a jittery manner.

Slowly, he peered at the man standing still next to him. And shit. He was right.

For the most part, Stein’s face was as monotone-appearing as his voice. But upon looking a bit closer, Spirit could just barely see a sense of childish onging in Stein’s eyes, as though he was holding out some sort of hope that it wasn’t all true, and that there was someone who could truly love him for him. And understand him. As though he was hoping for some sort of affectionate gesture.

Stein looked almost like a child who had its favorite stuffed animal ripped out of its arms. He looked almost as thought that same little stuffie had been thrown straight into a burning pit of raging fire right before his eyes.

It was a small, minuscule, microscopic detail. But after partnering with this lunatic for so long, he was able to just barely pick up on it.

A subconscious desire for what Stein will never have.

And he knew it, as well.

“Spirit?”

Shit. He must’ve been staring at him for too long.

“I care about you, Stein,” Spirit said softly and solemnly, a small smile of pity on his face, as he pat Stein’s shoulder.

There were a million things Stein wanted to say to Spirit. He wanted to tell him that most people who have been around a certain person for a long while begin to care about that individual, but that doesn’t truly mean anything. He wanted to tell him that he knew he didn’t want to befriend Stein all those years ago. And that he knew that Spirit was only there to attempt to instill some form of law and order into Stein. But instead, he simply remained silent.

Spirit gave him one last concerned glance, as he turned on his heels and walked away.

Stein watched him leave. He watched his fiery, red hair fade away into the hoards of humans, moving towards the likes of Marie, Sid, Naigus, and Azusa.

He watched them exchange concerned glances, both amongst themselves and at Stein, as Spirit surely told them what had just happened.

Stein observed how close they all looked.

They truly knew one another; brain, body, and soul. For they had vulnerably exposed their vital organs to each other, to the hawks. And they truly loved what they had seen.

It’s not even that Stein was too afraid of vulnerability itself.

It’s that, he knew that if he were to be truly vulnerable, and expose himself like a rabbit to a hawk, just as they had done, he would be crucified.

omg i read blood and beauty and its sequel last week bc it had been on my reading list for months!!!! and is this a safe space where i can just say that it hit the nail on the head for all of the borgias without unnecessarily vilifying one or the other (i mean basically considering how most writers hold some vendetta against juan) and i loved how u could really see lucrezia's growth from her childhood innocence to being forced to mature and grow up AND obsessed w any media that portrays cesare as ferocious and sharp and ruthless and juan finally got his flowers bc they obv showed his flaws but without making him the big bad evil when instead he also started off a kid but ended up being dragged to the bottom of the river by his father's ambitions 😔

i wish the 2nd book had progressed a little further to lucrezia's childbirth bed death so the story could come full circle and sometimes the pov switching was confusing for me but aside from that, the borgias will always be famous to meeeeeeeee and i love a good book that portrays them well!

zaynab omg hello!!!!! i was kinda waiting for someone to talk to me about this book because it's my absolute #1 favorite historical fiction book <3

i'm so happy you enjoyed reading it! the way miss dunant brilliantly humanized the borgia family by creating striking and compelling narratives for them was truly *chef's kiss*. it's safe to say that her portrayal of them has even made her my favorite author as well (and made me want to check out her other work, lol). the way she made them so sympathetic is truly admirable to me, which is also a standout aspect of the book as we manage to develop a deep understanding of their motivations and complexities through her nuanced portrayal, you know? i say it could've been done more when it came to lucrezia, as she is truly one of the most compelling figures in history (and my all-time favorite). i'm not criticizing dunant for lucrezia's portrayal!! but it's more like i wished she added more of lucrezia's lore...but alas! other books did her more justice, i must say!

my favorite theme of the book is the immense love the pope has for his children. the way [spoiler] juan was taken too soon from him is profoundly melancholic and it added emotional depth to the story and it highlighted the power of a father's love and the devastating impact of losing a beloved child. also, YEAH, the book felt like a breath of fresh air when it came to juan borgia! he was unfairly demonized with no reliable narrative and mostly used as a prop to hype up cesare at his expense *yawns*… but dunant made him an individual, likable character in the book, countering the unjust treatment he always receives. her portrayal of him allowed us to discover the vulnerability and sensitivity that lie beneath his outwardly arrogant and handsome demeanor. we really can't help but feel deep empathy and pity for him as we read about his inner struggles and emotional depth. he became a truly compelling and sympathetic figure within the borgia family, especially when his death is met with cruelty and brutality. the tragic nature of his demise evokes an even stronger sense of empathy and sorrow in the narrative of juan losing himself and being overwhelmed by the heavy task he was entrusted with…

and cesare, of course, was portrayed as that sulking, bitter, cruel but incredibly intelligent, cunning, and charming guy! lowkey a recurring theme for him, but the flavor in making him extra dark in the slayest way possible made me insane in a very positive way! you should watch "los borgia (2006)" for a delicious portrayal of cesare (and personally, i think it's the most historically accurate).

more books? i'd recommended emma lucas's 'lucrezia borgia' and maria bellonci's 'life and times of lucrezia borgia' - both are biographies btw! their work is a solid read, very unbiased without any manipulation of the letters about/between the siblings to push certain narratives (hello sarah bradford!!), well-researched, sheds light on the family's complex relationships and their rise to power, and is highly sympathetic to all of them. you won't be disappointed!!

for historical fiction, i'd recommend mario puzo's 'the family' ...you will never be disappointed after all it's by the dude who wrote the godfather!
