Blinken: US urging Israel to investigate airstrike that killed World Central Kitchen workers | Reuters
Washington has urged Israel to conduct a swift, thorough and impartial investigation into an Israeli airstrike that killed seven aid workers with the World Central Kitchen charity in Gaza, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.
Blinken arrived in Paris for talks with senior officials including President Emmanuel Macron hours after the Washington-based NGO was struck by an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza, adding pressure on Washington to toughen its stance in the war between Israel and Hamas.
"We've spoken directly to the Israeli government about this particular incident. We've urged a swift, a thorough and impartial investigation," Blinken told reporters at a press conference in Paris, adding that humanitarian workers have to be protected.
"These people are heroes, they run into the fire, not away from it," he said of the NGO workers killed in the strike. "We shouldn't have a situation where people who are simply trying to help their fellow human beings are themselves at grave risk."
But Blinken stopped short of directly condemning the attack, unlike his French counterpart Stephane Sejourne. Speaking alongside Blinken, Sejourne voiced France's "firm condemnation" of the Israeli airstrike.
"Nothing can justify such a tragedy," he said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the airstrike was unintended and tragic, and the military pledged an independent inquiry.
Biden faces pressure from foreign partners, human rights groups and some of his fellow Democrats in Congress to impose conditions on arms transfers to rein in Israel’s offensive in Hamas-ruled Gaza where health officials say more than 32,000 Palestinians have been killed, many of them civilians.
"The killing of these employees – and so many U.N. and other aid workers – is unacceptable. Enough is enough. There must be an immediate and independent investigation," Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen said.
Hours before the Israeli strike on WCK workers on Monday, Reuters reported that the Biden administration was considering proceeding with an $18 billion arms transfer package to Israel.
Asked if incidents like the killing of WCK workers made the United States think twice about its "flood of weapons" to Israel, Blinken did not address the specific question but said all U.S. arms transfers happened consistent to policy requirements.
"From Day One, we have worked to impress upon Israel, the imperative of protecting civilians, of adhering fully to international humanitarian law, to the law of armed conflict. That is something that we are looking at and review on a regular basis," he added.
CRITICAL MOMENT IN UKRAINE
Blinken was due to hold talks with Macron later in the day. "You can sense the Americans are a bit uncomfortable at the moment," said one French diplomat, pointing to the contrast between Washington's humanitarian efforts in Gaza and its supply of weapons to Israel.
Earlier in the day, Blinken said Ukraine was at a critical moment in its war with Russia and urgently needs more Western support, bemoaning the stalemate in Congress over a multibillion-dollar military package for Kyiv.
"It is absolutely essential to get Ukrainians what they continue to need to defend themselves, particularly when it comes to munitions and air defences," he told reporters.
"It's another reason why the supplementary budget request that President (Joe) Biden has made to (the U.S.) Congress must be fulfilled as quickly as possible."
Biden has urged the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives to endorse the military and financial aid package, but House Speaker Mike Johnson has held up the matter for months, citing domestic priorities.

[ 📹 Scenes from massive destruction wrought on the Palestine Stadium, west of Gaza City after the Israeli occupation army bombed the site.]
🇺🇸🇮🇱 🚨
UNITED STATES APPROVES BILLIONS IN MUNITIONS AND WARPLANES FOR "ISRAEL" TO CONTINUE GENOCIDE IN GAZA
The United States today approved the equivalent of $2.5 billion in military aid to the Israeli entity, a package that includes ammunition, artillery shells, massive bunker-busting bombs and more warplanes.
Even as the Biden administration claimed recently that it wants to see an end to the occupation's genocide campaign in Gaza, it sent an entirely different message in the munitions approved today.
Included in the package are 1'800 MK84 2'000lb (907kg) general purpose bombs, known to inflict casualties at distances up to 300 meters (1'000ft), along with 500 MK82 low-drag general purpose 500lb (227kg) bombs.
Once again, instead of repairing the country's own failing infrastructure, such as the collapsed Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore which fell after being hit by ship recently, the United States, led by the Biden White House chooses to send ammunition, bombs and warplanes to help the Zionist occupying power genocide the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.
Instead finding some healthy ways of dealing with American city decay, rampant crime, addiction, or the fix the broken education and healthcare systems, the United States chooses to spend billions arming the genocidal war of a foreign occupying power.
Instead of fixing the United States's out-of-control spending, creating upwards of $1 Trillion in new debt every 100 days, this White House spends billions in military and financial aid to fund imperialist wars in Gaza, fund civil wars to bleed Russia through Ukraine, bombing in Yemen and defending Israeli commerce in the Red Sea. Then there's the Military excercises around the Korean peninsula, patrolling the South China Sea, all while Israel bombs, using American weaponry, Lebanon and Syria, or arranged terrorist attacks in Iran. According to the Iranian authorities, last year's terrorist attack in Kerman was arranged by "Israel".
The United States and Israel are two rapid dogs, running amok through the world's neighborhood, randomly killing people and the entire neighborhood is doing it's best to protest, but to no avail.
But unfortunately, you can't just vigorously protest a rabid animal into calmly sitting in the corner and harming no one.
The current death toll in "Israel's" war of genocide in the Gaza Strip now exceeds 32'705 Palestinian killed, while another 75'190 others have been wounded since the start of the current round of Zionist aggression beginning on October 7th, 2023.

AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS
Enforce Leahy! No funding to IDF troops who’ve committed human rights abuses!
354 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!
I’ve just learned from Pro Publica that “a special State Department panel recommended months ago that Secretary of State Blinken disqualify multiple Israeli military and police units from receiving U.S. aid after reviewing allegations that they committed serious human rights abuses.” But Blinken has failed to act on the proposal. This in the face of growing international criticism of the Israeli military’s conduct in Gaza.
I’m livid about this. We cannot keep sending unconditional military aid to anyone, regardless of whom, if they are committing human rights abuses. We have Leahy laws to prevent it, and they are not being enforced here. It’s unacceptable.
The U.S. government needs to stop giving the Israeli government a blank check. Israel has a right to defend itself, of course, but the abuses described in Pro Publica’s report can’t be defined as self defense under anyone’s definition of the term. They’re abhorrent and our tax dollars mustn’t be spent on them. Thanks.

Hey, while its very important to be echoing the opinions of Palestinians, and putting their needs at the forefront of your actions/ activism, its also key to remember, that like any identity group, you will find people act and say things that conflict with the majority opinion, potentially in ways that seem aligned with the opinions of the oppressor.
There's a lot of reasons people in general do this. Maybe they want to (attempt to) attain the privilege of the oppressor, maybe there is another societal factor as to why they might be inclined to do that (ie there will be strong personal/political consequences for a more radical opinion or just rich), maybe they work in a field which is particularly invested in maintaining the hierarchies of power and oppression (ie police, military). I'm not going to tell you that these people's opinions/ experiences should be invalidated entirely, but that you should ask yourself who benefits from the legitimacy provided by having say, a Palestinian as a spokesperson about something, and asking yourself why they seem to be in conflict with the majority opinion, especially if that opinion isn't really being represented by the org using the spokesperson.

not to sound like an asshole bc honestly fuck both of em but. trump wouldn’t’ve supported sending war efforts to Israel. considering he wouldn’t’ve for MUCH different reasons that we would like. but he still wouldn’t’ve. willing to learn tbh bc I don’t want to be ignorant but also just. there’s obviously agendas and corruption on BOTH sides of the poles?? wouldn’t it be best to fuck both of em. just toss out the whole system. fight for a remodeling instead of sticking with the old brick n mortar just hoping it works out this time when we know it won’t. anyways. hi op. hope you’re well. sorry for coming into ur askbox with dumb political inquires 🙏
hi anon yes i completely agree it would be best to do away with the whole system but thats not going to happen by 2024 so people still need to vote for biden unfortunately

y’all. i’m sorry for swinging the bat at the hornets nest again but. the US is not why israel has healthcare. israel spent $27 billion on healthcare in 2021. the us gave them $3 billion. universal healthcare in the US would cost $3 trillion a year.

For those in the US, here’s a pre-written letter as provided by EveryAction that you can send to your representatives. I highly recommend that you do not send the letter as-is, first because sometimes form messages are filtered out, and second because IMO it does not use strong enough language to express the atrocities occurring in Gaza right now (10.27.23). However, it’s still a useful service to automatically send a message to your representatives in Congress. Please do not stay silent about Palestine

Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare to pray for a ceasefire and urge the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, to end US military aid to Israel.
The 300 or so arrests took place on Tuesday night at Grand Army Plaza, on the doorstep of Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where thousands of mostly Jewish New Yorkers gathered for the seder, a ritual that marked the second night of the holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide.
The seder came just before the US Senate resoundingly passed a military package that includes $26bn for Israel.
