Ok so on my first watch, I did wonder why he didn't fight back a little, by asking for her next dance or calling on her the next day, but the answer was so blatant. That's his point of view when he sees Penelope and Debling dancing:

She's smiling. She's happy. And Colin said it himself, he wishes very much for her happiness, and in that moment? He thinks she's found it. After all, earlier she did say she found Debling attractive, and she was excited at the idea of him courting her! Who is Colin to deny her that joy?

He's a sensitive man, not really a fighter, the whole time he is thinking about her feelings, even if that means denying his own. That's why he was tongue-tied under that willow tree and letting her lead the conversation, that is why he respects her wishes and keeps a distance although it's killing him to not seek her out at every social assembly, and that's why in that moment, he lets her go.

But fortunately Violet will remind him that being a little selfish is not so bad either.

loki caring about sylvie is a good thing. loki and sylvie deserve to fight and talk it out and openly care about each other. they deserve that.

that doesn't mean that the romantic pairing is being pushed in the narrative or whatever. the kiss did happen in canon they have to address it. not pro ship here, just saying: they deserve closure and they deserve to have their relationship (non romantic) mended.

being anti-sylki doesn't mean being anti-loki & syvlie or anti sylvie. the show is good, it's in character, it's creditable- we just don't have all the information yet so we cannot make a judgement call abt it.
