I think my favorite difference between the comic and movie is that in the movie, they live in an isolationist fortified city and their only concept of religion is regarding Gloreth. They treat her like a God, all the way down to using her name as an expletive.

Meanwhile in the Comic they live in just. A regular medieval (albeit sci-fantasy with modern elements) city 😭 and they celebrate Christmas and it is CALLED Christmas, and they say "God" as an expletive which means that Christianity, and by extension Jesus Christ Himself exist in the canon of the Nimona Comic Universe

The absolute worst thing you can call someone else is cunt - this is very strong and isn't used in casual conversation, unless you are in VERY informal company, in which case it's thrown around like it's nothing at all. (Come here you cheeky cunt - playful)

Terms of Endearment

Babes, hun, luv, darlin', sweetheart, mate, sweetie, mucker, pal, blud, fam, dear, dearie, honey

Eg: "Alright babes? How's it going darlin?'"

British people often use insults affectionately, too, especially with close friends as a way to tease / banter. (You silly sod, you useless prick, you cheeky git, you daft muppet, etc)

Drunk: trollied, smashed, pissed, wasted, legless, hammered, sloshed, battered, bladdered, merry, shitfaced, arseholed, plastered, lashed

Lips = kiss (are you tryna lips me?)

Banter = conversation that's funny, casual, playful (S'just banter innit)

Stop faffing around = be serious and stop messing about

That's mad = wow, I can't believe what you just said or that's amazing

Allow it = just leave it, it's no big deal (Whatever mate, allow it)

Other helpful pointers

When British people (who talk like Velv) swear angrily we do so many times in a whole sentence and add a lot of qualifiers, eg:

"Fuck off you fucking prick, you absolute fucking useless arsehole!"

"Don't piss me off babes or I'll fucking end your shitty little life!"

Making a crude observation about something nearly always a curse in-front of it, eg:

"That's fucking rank."

"It was fucking buzzing mate!"

The Magical Use of Innit:

Innit is a wonderful word that can be used everywhere, especially for someone from South London. It basically means "isn't it?" but it has MANY uses. It can be used to mean an agreement, like "I know right?"

"That was well good innit"

"He's a right twat" - response: "INNIT!"

"It's fuckin grim in here" - "Innit mate"

Adding "well" to words

That was well good - that was well bad - that was well grim

(You get the idea)

oh btw i read The Star Beast comic the other day n have Thoughts:

overall the TV episode struck me as a very solid & effective adaptation! other than the stuff about the Doctor & Donna's history there wasn't a huge amount of new material

can report that they defo DID amp up the ET parallels haha

really liked that the TV story had the Doctor work out that something was Up w the Meep rather than just having exposition handed to him, that was a good call

the comic does have a bit more emphasis on the relationship between the Meep & Sharon (Rose's analogue) which is actually something I thought was lacking in the TV story. in particular there's a good moment in the comic where the Meep tries his act on Sharon one last time after being arrested and she tells him to go to hell - would have liked to see some closure like that in the TV version but can see why they wanted the ending focused mostly on Donna, can't have everything ig

fun little fact!! Sharon is actually the very first black doctor who companion in any medium. so that's an interesting distinction The Star Beast has!

Ace was a menace.

A menace of the highest degree, whose sole purpose in life sometimes seemed to be making you burst a vein with irritation.

A menace who was holding out a bouquet of roses for you, trying to act nonchalant even as his cheeks were tinted a soft red. His eyes were hidden by his sunglasses, but you had no doubt that they were focused on you and your reaction.

"What's this?" You hummed, taking the bouquet and cradling it in your arms. For something that looked so elegant and dainty it sure was heavy, and you were wondering how long Ace had stood outside Ramshackle with them before finally ringing the bell.

Ace cleared his throat, breaking you out of your reverie. He looked effortlessly stylish in everything he wore, but it seemed like he had taken special care with his appearance for today. If he'd given you a warning, maybe you'd have changed into something nicer than your pajamas...

"I, um, I came here to ask you something," he said, voice somber as if he was going to give you bad news. 'But who gives bad news with a bouquet of roses?' You thought to yourself, pushing down the part of you that was ready to overthink the smallest of incidents. You nodded to him to continue.

"Will... uh, will you be m-my Valentine this year?" He trailed off at the end of his sentence, voice breaking slightly. You blinked.

"Your Valentine?"

Ace made a face of indignation at your question. "Oh no, I was actually speaking on behalf of Deuce. Look, there he is, right where you left your last braincell," he huffed, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Are you trying to make me say no?" You asked, narrowing your eyes at him. Shifting the bouquet to one hand, you acted as if you were going to close the door with him still outside. Not that you actually would, but it was still fun to see his eyes widen comically at your action, hand shooting out to stall for time.

"Wait, no that– don't take everything so seriously," he whined, holding the door to stop you from shutting it in his face. You rolled your eyes at his dramatics, letting go of the door but turning and making your way inside. With your back turned to him, you smiled.

"Come in and help me find a vase for these roses," you said, and Ace followed you obediently, refraining from making any other sarcastic remarks that would have him stand outside the house as though he were in timeout for misbehaving.

Once you found a vase big enough to hold all the roses, you filled it with water. As you placed the flowers in it, you felt two strong arms circling your waist and a weight settling on your shoulder.

"So... be my valentine?" He asked again, voice slightly muffled against your shoulder.

"Give me one good reason to be your valentine," you hummed, not relenting even as Ace whined about you being unfair to him, he got you roses, how could you be so cruel—

Every indignant rise and fall of his voice had the smile on your lips growing and the urge to burst out laughing increasing. You bit your lip to stifle your amusement, but he caught it anyways.

"You little– you were trying to make me beg for it, huh?" He accused you, voice playful as he poked your sides. A peal of laughter left you as you tried to dodge his pokes, your hands swatting at his.

"Stop it!"

"Not until you say yes!"

Breaking free from his hold, you ran to the living room, your giggles filling the air as Ace followed, hot on your trail. You were fast, but Ace was faster, and you blamed hisbeing a member of the basketball club for him managing to foil all your attempts at getting away.

Pinned under him on the couch, you squirmed as he continued tickling you. Laughter left you both breathless and red in the face, and you wheezed when Ace decided to flop on top of you, his weight pressing your body down against the couch.

You hit him lightly at his shoulder. "Get off, you're heavy!"

"Nope. That's what you get for being a brat and trying to make me beg for you to be my valentine when you and I both know your answer'd be yes."

You stuck your tongue out at him, and he mirrored your actions, before he made himself comfortable against you and settled against your chest.

So ngl the reason I made Casey a healer is cuz of his expressive and kind personality plus how he was raised by the Hamatos meaning he defo inherited the classic Hamato brand of overprotectiveness towards family(esp cuz everyone kept dying :’)). It gave me the impression that deep down; despite his obvious feistiness what Casey truly wants is for his family to stay alive and safe, esp in the apocalypse. And since the Ninpo does seem to represent the inner desire of the wielders what better way, to accomplish that then healing powers? Field wise I like to think that made Casey an invaluable field medic cuz not only was he strong/skilled (cuz let’s be honest look at bro with his grappling gun boi had skillz also being trained by Leonardo ‘Mr president of the apocalypse’ Hamato defo gave him a massive leg up) enough to run into front lines and carry/ drag injured away by himself if need be, bro could also heal magically and perform first aid (if we rlly wanna lean into sensei-student dynamic and the team medic Leo hc) .

Post-movie I think his Ninpo would get clogged up, ( he can still feel it but he can’t use it which oh boi would be such a land mine for panic attack material, imagine losing the one of the few concrete things that shows him he did belong and had a family) cuz he feels isolated and not connected to the past!fam for obvious and understandable reasons but gets it back once he starts feeling like he is part of the present! Hamato fam and possibly significantly less bogged down by survivors guilt. Which btw would be such a wholesome moment I might actually make a comic out of it no promises tho.

Bottoms (2023) but instead of a fight club they have a gaming club — Part 1.

headcanons(?), loose plot, and shenanigans.

The club was established a long time ago by Josie, PJ, and Hazel when the school started to require every student to be a part of a club.

PJ didn't want to partake in any club as they all seem to involve physical exertion and community service so she thought they could just make up their own and they ended up with a gaming club.

They had high hopes for the club in the beginning bc who doesn't like video games?! But it turns out three nerds endorsing the club didn't seem too appealing to the many students of Rockbridge Falls High.

They used to play different types of games until they decided to exclusively play Tekken bc it's PJ's favorite and everything PJ's demanding ass wants, she gets (/pos. she's princess).

Also bc there were only three of them and Hazel always seemed to go with whatever PJ wanted.

They play local tourneys... Oh, and they never win!

They get a ten dollar budget from the school which they use to buy food after participating in a tourney.

PJ is Lili main because duh! She's gay and dramatic.

PJ's adamant that she mains Lili bc she's 'hot and sexy' but really she just thinks her outfit is pretty </3

Hazel is Asuka main mostly bc PJ is Lili main lol she also mains Lars.

PJ thinks Hazel purposefully choses Asuka to piss her off bc Hazel always beats her.

Josie is Jin main but sometimes she plays Josie just because :)

Josie draws Tekken fanart/comics.

Sometimes Josie draws Asulili fanart to piss off PJ. She gives them to Hazel who puts them up in her bedroom <3

PJ believes Josie's a show-off for being a Jin main but Josie thinks it just shows how much of a loser shut-in she is.

PJ spams single moves when she wants to piss off Josie.

And yes PJ was definitely a button masher. When they were younger Hazel beat her twelve times in a row and she got so mad that she didn't talk to Hazel for a whole day until Hazel showed her what practice mode is actually for.

She grinded so much that time that she failed a test but it was all worth it when she finally beat Hazel. It wasn't that long until Hazel was, yet again, unbeatable to PJ.

Josie is defo the best out of all of them, she's naturally great at remembering combos.

Josie and Hazel loves discoursing/theorizing about the plot and characters with each other.

Hazel makes them club shirts every year bc she's the rich one.

Hazel loves experimenting with/building fightsticks.

Hazel likes to write down combos she find on YouTube and she shares it with the club when they meet.

Hazel also takes notes about what everyone needs to improve during their sessions. Josie takes notes when it's her turn.

And PJ thinks it's stupid, "You guys don't need to do all that. Literally, no one cares about this club but us. We could be not doing any of this and no one will care,"

When they got to senior year they were given a notice by the school telling them they were gonna shut them down and m cut off their budget if they don't rack up at least ten members and gain any significant achievement for the school.

"Fuck this stupid fucking school. Why can't we be ugly, gay, and untalented in peace?! Does that mean it's one dollar for each student? Do they think my Tekken expertise costs a dollar?!"

Luckily Hazel got Sylvie and Crystal to join. Annie's also there, she doesn't play, she just sits there and complain the violence.

Sylvie is Panda/Kuma main. Crystal is King main. Annie will play Julia but only if she's playing against Sylvie.

Hazel also got Stella Rebecca to join too but only cuz she told her about the tourney prize money.

Stella started out as a Chloe main until she saw PJ playing as Alisa once and got into her bc chainsaws ^-^ !

They're still missing three members and lo and behold— Isabel and Brittany joined the club.

Yes please talk more about That scene; Because there are LAYERS to some of their expressions and Kuai radiating 'please, let me take care of you' energy while Hanzo (at times) looks half-starved for any sort of gentleness (and also possibly Kuai's torso in that shirt XD) is a peak subscorp moment.

Oh thank god

So, for one thing, after Kuai Liang bows and Hanzo is watching him walk away, Hanzo’s facial expression is so complex like, for one thing he looks like he wants to eat Kuai Liang and for another, he looks at him so softly, like he’s realizing that Kuai Liang is not the monster he’s convinced himself that the cryomancer is and he’s at peace and feels safe which is incredible given that the last time they saw each other was in the mkx comics after Hanzo stabbed him and left him to die a slow and painful death.

And then Hanzo’s expression shifts into something more guarded and angry the moment Kuai Liang is able to see him again, like Hanzo is hiding and reminding himself of what they actually are to each other (which I think means that something happened when they were in the netherrealm together, like idk what but their relationship was defo complicated there)

Then, Hanzo tries to start a fight by demanding that Kuai Liang admit the Lin Kuei killed his fam and clan only to be so caught off guard when Kuai Liang actually does, like he was so hostile as he said it (understandably) and he’s just met with genuine remorse and softness that he cannot comprehend

And he’s so guarded as Kuai Liang talks and pours the tea, but he’s also clearly listening the whole time, like he wants to know what’s going on and he wants to understand but he can’t fully let go of the idea that Kuai Liang is his enemy. It’s like he can’t fathom the idea that Kuai Liang wouldn’t want to retaliate against him for the encounter in the comics, like he can only understand the world in the context of violence and vengeance, which Kuai Liang just refuses to engage with now

And Kuai Liang is going Out Of His Way to make this as easy and painless for Hanzo as possible. He knows how much this information is going to hurt and he’s trying to mitigate that and he’s handling Hanzo So Gently, he’s being so deliberately kind

And the thing is, no one would expect that of him. Hanzo did kill Bi-Han unjustly, Kuai Liang can prove that, no one would have blamed the cryomancer for sending Hanzo that information and having that be the end of it, or even just trying to kill Hanzo immediately. He would have been fully within his rights to do so, but he chooses not to bc he Knows what this is like, to be manipulated into killing someone by the cause of your misery (he did grow up in the Lin Kuei after all

If Frost hadn’t intervened, I do wonder what that interaction would have looked like, and I think it would have ended up changing their relationship a fair bit (in that they would have taken a Lot longer to trust each other)

But Frost did, and the moment that she did, Hanzo just clung to that bc it meant Kuai Liang was seeking revenge and that’s something he could understand, something that was comfortable with

And then Kuai Liang freezes Frost to defend Hanzo and you can see in Hanzo’s expression as Kuai Liang keeps talking it’s just pure confusion, he cannot fathom how this has played out but he Wants to, like he’s so tempted by the softness he’s being offered even if he can’t put a name to it, he wants to let himself have it

And then Hanzo learns the truth and he’s Immediately wracked with guilt for what he’s done and he’s probs expecting to be met with some demand for penance but all Kuai Liang gives him is understanding and the promise of support in his pursuit of vengeance (why else offer an alliance in that exact moment that Hanzo decides that Quan Chi must pay?)

Hanzo and Kuai Liang are alike in that they are unused to gentleness and softness but Hanzo did know it once and Kuai Liang can’t remember ever experiencing it. And yet, Kuai Liang is relentless in offering it to Hanzo who can’t figure out how to accept it

I wish we got to see more of their early alliance days bc there’s so much potential there

Morgana Pendragon/Le Fey:

Sure, she did brainwash merlin into killing Arthur, also tried to kill Merlin, and took his magic, plus kill some of the knights (gwaine and lancelot). But like she was taught to fear magic then found she was magic and fear took over. Plus merlin poisoned her, hurt morgouse, hid his magic and pushed her down the stairs. Oh and Uther turned out to be her father and what is more damaging than finding out you're related to him through blood, and no less because of a affair, cheating on a woman who's death caused a kingdom-wide ban on something that morgana didn't get to choose, and possibly others didn't choose either. Also her outfits are absolutely awesome, even when it's 'crazy homeless woman in the woods chic'. Also I'm convinced she's the one that told Arthur those threats he used in the first episode. She defo sussed he's bi and decided to help.

She was a straight up hero in the first season, then spent some time with her sister and came back evily smirking everywhere. She is played by Katie McGrath so of course she's girlboss (also she's royalty)

Nimona:

She's not morally ambiguous, she's a poor little meow meow but she deserves to be in a pool so she feels better. Also the powerful rage and will to destroy and murder is there. She's not a girl, she's a shark, but she's also the best girl

Girlbossest girlboss. Willing to kill for (good?) causes, wants to be a sidekick to a villain but also doesn't really want to be hated and feared. When you weigh the motivations of her comic versions and her movie version i'd say it balances out to Morally Grey.

I wanna hear more about ur merturtle au pls. I think it's pretty neat and u have very squishy designs. Also is it okay to write fanfic of ur au? It wouldn't be much and it'll be my first time writing but I have a tentative idea.

Ofc u can use the designs // idea with credit ^^ If u ever write something, defo mention it to me on here so I can read it >:) The overall thing was originally just going to be fun ideas, and nothing major. Overall, basically everything is the same from the original, other than a few quirks and designs the turtles have. Leo would always make a snarky comment about how he'd have "The voice of a siren." Which ofc, Donnie would always correct. He's the fastest swimmer of the group, and is the one that usually dominates fighting fields. Ofc- only if he uses his brain, which he kinda needs to work on. Donnie on the other hand, had to figure out how to comfortably live his life out of the water, and be able to be happy with it. He's made a few adjustments, probably like keeping water in his battle shell and having a regular schedule to keep himself from not being too agitated. In this version ofc, he's made all of his equipment waterproof! Including Shelldon ofc!! Raph, as a thresher shark, I'd imagine his fighting style would change a bit. Ofc he'd still be the absolute tank, but I like to imagine he'd manage to kinda use his tail to his advantage. Like Splinter, he uses his tail as a weapon and can stun enemies And as the Raph fan I am, thought that maybe it'd be cool to explore a small idea: Raph's always been paranoid of his smile, of being too rough, of being too scary, etc. I want him to both understand his struggles and realize that those he really cares about just want to see the true him, and not a hand covering his sharp smile. Aka, some free angst I could mess around with ;) Mikey... i actually don't have a lot for him? He'd be a force of keeping the family together, kinda like in the cannon. He'd have the most colorful fighting style, especially when u add water to the mix! He'd be the one to make Raph realize how wrong he was about himself, he'd be the one to help Donnie with his designs, and he'd help Leo realize that a lot of the stuff that's happened to them wasn't his fault. Also, part of me would find it funny if HE was the one who had some sort of 'siren' 'mermaid' powers. Or this could just be me watching too much avatar and the last airbender- but i think it'd be funny if he could manipulate water, and have all that cool mermaid powers!! Just an idea tho ^^ NOW UH- sorry if that's a lot to read, so have this lil comic WIP. I probably won't finish it knowing me- it is my birthday after all, but I'm glad people are taking interest in my little au :]

I have a robstar question for you: If Starfire met Batman, do you think she would understand how Robin/Nightwing had developed some of his "less-than-ideal" tendencies from his mentor?

As much as I headcanon that Bruce adores Starfire (even tho he defo does not in the comics) I reckon that she would see it immediately.

Starfire is exceptionally perceptive to people and their feelings and their personalities. I think she would spend 5 mins around Bruce and be like ohhh so this is why you were so emotionally stunted.

I always liken Dick as going in a bit of a circle. Whilst his parents were alive and he was a carefree lil acrobat child who was emotionally open etc. Then, I imagine his grief was overbearing and he moves in with Bruce and is still in the phase of a child who picks up on others traits and so becomes emotionally cut off and aloof and stoic; less so than Bruce cos he is king broody but Dick is still one to be a bit closed off.

Then, he meets his darling wife and Starfire opens him up again very much so like the comics. The whole reason we have Dick Grayson now who is jokey and more open emotionally is Kory’s doing, idc which way you spin it. She broke down his barriers and taught him its okay to feel emotions and not to bottle things up etc.

So, i always liken it to a circle.

But yea, Kory would absolutely see Dick’s less ideal tendencies the minute she meets Bruce. She is an amazing people reader for the most part, after all.

We have seen this in canon too tbf, there’s a fair share of Kory calling out Bruce’s bullshit ways in comics and stuff if im not mistaken.

I completely forgot how I got into rise, it was mid September last year, I think I just kept seeing a bunch of compilations/gifs of it everywhere and thought it would be something nice to watch in the bg while doing work! Then oops, before I knew it I was hooked-

Sigh ive really been here for over a year now, kudos to me and being really, really good at hyperfixating I suppose

Before rise, I know I watched a bit of 2012, but was never interested enough to watch more of it whoops

After watching rise though I did go back to fully watch 2012, and am currently slowly getting through 03!
