Oh dear. Yes, that map is a real thing. Australian time zones in the summer are a quite literally a (very) hot mess. What that map doesn't show you is that there is a tiny part of New South Wales (the bigger state in the red part) that observes South Australian (middle orange state) time zones for some reason that I don't understand. It's wild.

I'm going to do my best to explain this but the reality is that I don't entirely understand why myself.

Okay so, the first thing you need to know is that Australia is very big. It is about the same size as the continental US. The second thing you need to know is that we are a federation meaning that until federation, each state you can see outlined on the map essentially operated as it's own little country. Western Australia did not want to join the federation but eventually did. South Australia (orange, middle) has the distinction of being the only state that was solely a settler colony, no convicts. They think that makes them very important. Also yes, Australia was initially colonised by the Brits because they had too many criminals and needed somewhere Very Far Away to send them. So, lots of white people here are descended from convicts . Anyway, I digress, the colonial history of Australia is a matter of record and a disgrace and the racist effect of that history is still very present and is most evident in the referendum that happened on the weekend but this is neither the time nor the place for me to get into that and my absolute disappointment in the country I live in. (how's that for a run on sentence)

ANYWAY, sheer size means that many time zones are necessary. Federation means that the states are like squabbling siblings and no one wants to do what anyone else says.

Next fact, the top of Australia is quite close to the equator. The northern part of Australia is classified as sub-tropical to tropical. It's hot and humid. The sun rises very early up north, even in the winter. We do not have long winter nights here. The sun setting in the afternoon is not a thing.

Also Australian populations are concentrated on the coasts, the middle of Australia is sparsely populated. After the coastal areas, there is farm land and then desert in the middle.

In Queensland (big yellow state on the right) there is no DST because the top two-thirds of the state (mostly rural/regional) will not countenance it for reasons such as "the cows won't cope" but also because up there they do not want longer days in the sun because it's too fucking hot and actually they look forward to the sun setting and things getting cooler. The bottom third of Queensland (which is mostly urban) wants DST but the state government cannot implement it without the cooperation of the rest of the state.

As for Western Australia (big blue state on the left), they do whatever the fuck they want and quite often don't opt in to federal laws and do their own thing. I can't explain what's happening there.

Do not ask me about the 30-minute time zone thing happening in the middle. My only explanation is that, as per above, SA thinks it's better than everyone else and did it to be ✨special✨ (the Northern Territory (middle green territory (not a state) at the top) was part of SA until some time after federation which is why they follow the same time zone (except for DST).

Okay, last minute change because…. 🥲

I just happened to saw the Barbie movie, two days ago (yeah I know, I’m late….don’t judge me !!! ), and this particular scene really warmed my little “ blood-pumping “ organ in a way I wouldn’t have imagined.

It was by far one of the few touching moments of the movie.

Context (some spoilers might be written, so act accordingly knowing this) :

Barbie is in the real world and start to realize how her “ perfect Barbieland “ is in fact a pale copy of what joy and life really looks like.

A joy she kinda saw for a minute in the real world.

And as she look around, sitting on a bench, Barbie gave an intrigued look to the old woman that was relaxing right next to her.

A smile started to appear on her face as she told the following sentence : “ You’re so beautiful “

“ I know it “ replied the old woman.

We saw then the two people sharing a common laugh as the both were admiring each other.

I think it is such an important scene for us to understand, share and talk about because, most of the time, we tends to forget how beautiful our elders are, on the outside and so on the inside.

Full of wisdom, experience, memories…they are the personification of “ I lived, I’m living, I will live “.

That’s why in most families, grandparents are the roots and heart of the family.

And I think that’s what Barbie saw in the old woman (which is played by Ann Roth btw ✌🏽)

Not to mention that Barbie, the personification of modern “ Beauty “ herself, said it, genuinely !!!

Btw, Margot Robbie was just perfect for this role ! ✨💯

I told myself I was way too exhausted to write notes as I went and was just gonna enjoy the read without pause this time but four lines wouldn’t let me:

just looking for support in spreading awareness for this campaign. I've put it up on several local bulletin boards in Brooklyn but the response has been slow. I've actually had it removed from boards and wooden posts in more affluent areas! I finished this personally significant work at the end of 2021 and have spent a good deal of 2022 struggling to find a publisher. After being told that the work was too "niche" and "urban" (code for too queer and black), I started to focus on gaining support in a crowdfunding campaign to produce it personally.

You can pass over this, that would be okay and I would understand, but if you're able to share this on social media, a digital bulletin board, or even in your neighborhood, I would really appreciate it! It would make a massive difference!

Lessons I Learned in 2022 🌹☘️✨⚡️

Since it is the start of the lunar new year I wanted to share what I learned in 2022 🗣

2022 a hell of year, but a lot of good things to come out of it and good people with clean souls and hearts ♥️

Healing is different for everyone and there is no time table to heal from things you cannot speak on. Things will trigger you emotions will rush in uncontrollably. Coming to terms and letting go of those dark times, memories, places and people so what will set you free. It will unlock new doors and create new emotions and dreams. Follow your passions not a title or status. You get what you give in this world 🌎 Love is kind love doesn’t hurt or hit or scream and yell. It nourishes it supports it cares and nurtures. It is patient it is beautiful, it genuine. I was told once I have no idea what love is and that was accurate.

He was right I was absolutely ~clueless~.

Piece by piece I unlearned, to relearn I took the necessary steps and time I needed to comprehend love. Not only loving myself but loving others and giving to others In the smallest of ways.

It doesn’t quit or give up. It doesn’t fade over time or distance and if you let it go it will come back ten fold if it’s true. If it’s real and if it’s unconditional. When you love someone you push them to be the best version of themselves you empower them. When they want to quit you don’t let them you support them. You keep your pinky promises no matter how juvenile they may seem. You keep them in your heart no matter where you go or what you have to face ahead. You confide in them you open up you embrace vulnerability. You get butterflies no matter how old you are. You don’t have to wear a mask or a facade because they know you stripped down bear bruised and bloody. They accept you for you.

You rise to the occasion no matter the storm. You are connected with them through thick and thin. In a partnership/relationship you embrace them with your words, kind words. You move mountains if you could just to see them smile. You recognize their weaknesses but illuminate their strengths. You love them for who they are you pray for their safety.

Resilience in the face of adversity is what breads beasts 🎯

Feed your passions, chase your dreams and hold what you love in your heart because tomorrow is never promised.

Burnouts are real and if you overwork yourself into oblivion they will happen ❤️

Perception is reality and you choose what to intake on a daily basis✨

Happiness isn’t gift wrapped neither is love you don’t get it in a box from Nordstrom’s 🔈

Mindset is everything so make it optimistic and fill it with what you need 🟢

I've used 'Richard' in exactly one of my fics, but I do love the 'Calling them by their full name when they're In Trouble' trope. I feel like he wouldn't be intimidated by it at all most of the time— In fact, it would probably egg him on.
