Mega Con London BTS Recap

Since this is a more personal recap of MegaCon London (and a bit of a comparison with Back to the Musical World con by Dream It), I didn't include it in the JATP info dump from yesterday.

BTTMW backstory

Let's do some backstory first. As you may know, the official JATP cancellation was announced at the first Back to the Musical World con back in 2021. I wasn't there for multiple reasons including Covid but also I just got into the fandom and it felt weird. I'm socially awkward - I cannot look into people's eyes, I stutter - especially when talking English - or ramble and I struggle to just touch strangers which is not helpful for photo ops.

So what I was supposed to do there? These people are actors - strangers I have nothing to do with. They aren't the characters I've fallen in love with. Yeah, not my thing, I thought.

However, when the BTTMW2 got announced, I was like 'You know, let's go to just show the cast how much you loved the show'. It was supposed to give me some closure. So I went.

And while the con was a fucked-up disaster in terms of organization and schedule - on Sunday, Charlie signed autographs until 10 pm, and Owen would have done the same if his mom hadn't cut off his line. (On that note: Never mess with a German mom protecting her kid. You'll lose.) But meeting the cast was an entirely different experience. I'd never interacted with them before, so I was anxious as fuck. However, they were so nice and considerate - and seeing them goof around was just adorable.

And not just the cast. I met so many amazing people there who are now my friends. Big shoutout to them!

So, despite my hatred for Dream It, I went to BTTMW4 (and thankfully it was less chaotic than BTTMW2). But I was also determined to go to MegaCon bc I knew Jeremy wouldn't come back to Paris. (Unlike the other JATP cast members, he's done plenty of other cons before and knows that you shouldn't be so drained that require alcohol to make it through the day.)

BTTMW vs MegaCon London

So, just in general: MegaCon was clearly the better experience.

Firstly, it was cheaper than DI. Much cheaper.

(Note 1: The * prices are from 2022 since Jeremy wasn't at BTTMW4. In 2023, the photo with Madi, Owen & Charlie was already €180. All four would have been over €200 for sure.

Note 2: The prices for MegaCon were originally in £. The price in € is what I paid according to my credit card.

Note 3: Even though not 100% accurate: € = $)

Obviously, Charlie canceled later. But I automatically got a refund. So bonus for MegaCon.

Unlike with Dream It, you were allowed to film and take pictures everywhere, which was cool. And since the panels were exclusively in English, you actually got way more content. The panels were also much longer, and it seemed like the cast was more at ease. For example, Owen started to play body drums on stage, and he initiated the boomshakalaka without being drunk. This is such an incredibly sad thing to say, but I've never seen him that relaxed during a panel.

Also, shoutout to the many fans that were at the Saturday panel. According to the hist, it was the largest crowd they had on Saturday. (If MegaCon had been smarter and had announced the Sunday panel before the people got their passes, it would have had a huge audience, too.)

The autographs ran smoothly, and there was always a queue, which was good bc Own confirmed that it was Jeremy who convinced MegaCon to invite him and Charlie. (Madi got invited later - I assume after people haunted them on IG about her.) MegaCon was wary about it bc they had no idea if the cast was worth the money. I hope the audience on Saturday, the lines for the autographs, and the massive delays at the photo studio caused by the JATP fans (and technical issues) convinced them.

Side note: After Charlie canceled, I got an email from MegaCon. And obviously, I know they just used some phrases to placate us. But I still hope they meant it when they wrote,

MegaCon, you won't read this. But if you get them again, I'll be there!

(And again shoutout to the amazing people I met in London. To my fellow German tumblr friends: I loved meeting you guys and hanging out with you!)

So the only thing that wasn't great were the photo ops. Yeah, most of the Saturday photos are terrible bc of the fucked-up lighting, and due to technical issues, there were so many delays. (Though to be fair, BTTMW also had issues with photo ops.)

So overall, I genuinely enjoyed MegaCon, and I'm very excited to head off to Dublin on Saturday to give Jeremy the birthday card. To all the people who signed it: THANK YOU!

Some other random things that don't fit anywhere

Not Owen assuming that Deutsche Bahn must always be on time bc Germans are always on time. Bro, I know it's been a while since you visited Germany ... but please, that was mean.

When I gave him ghostie!Willie, Owen told me how much his family loves the little ghosties 🥹🥹🥹 (which explains why his dad was in my IG stories after he posted the pic of the ghosties.)

It's random, but this con was so much more balanced in terms of fans. I remember fans being kinda uninterested in Jeremy at the BTTMW - some fans even got angry at him bc he refused certain poses. At MegaCon, the interest was equally split between those three, and it made me happy.

Here's the lovely ghost merch I bought at MegaCon. Obviously, the pride ghost and the skateboard ghost are Willex, the couple is Juke, and the ghosts with the kitty and the one with the pumpkin are both Reggie! (I talked to the guys running the stalls, and they were so baffled about all the JATP fans - a few Fantoms came over from the US and Canada just for this con.)

Some of my favourite facts about the one and only Soap Mactavish

Reboot ver with a lil bit of og ver facts that I think are still canon to 2022 Soap (some hc too)

that he tried to enroll multiple times in the SAS starting at age 16 and failed every time (dedication, man)

that he was recognized for his natural skills by Price during his evaluation and Cap immediately took him under his wing to train him personally (Price was like "sweet, new son")

that he passed selection with the highest possible marks in all 3 categories of the course SECONDS behind Gaz (he's salty about that for sure -it actually shows in his og journal - man's an overachiever. Gaz also brags about it when he needs to humble him)

that he was the youngest to pass SAS selection in British army HISTORY (that's his retort whenever Gaz brags about his scores I'm making that a fact)

downside about being the youngest candidate is that he is called the 'perpetual FNG' (you know he has annoying little brother energy so maybe this more fitting than one would think)

that during his first mission where he joined the bravo team, Price saved him from falling to his death during the team's exfil. he felt indebted to Price ever since (I feel like because he was young he felt the need to prove himself a lot so he's naturally hard on himself -og journal shows this too- he probably still feels bad about this mission just cause of one thing)

that he received a gallantry medal, the Victoria cross, and the conspicuous gallantry cross early in his career for an operation

said operation where his team was surrounded by AQ fighters when his heavy machine gun malfunction (I'm assuming his patrol had little to no ammo atp) so the man deassembles THE WHOLE GUN and then REASSEMBLES it so it fired 150 single shots where he had to recock the gun every round (this is totally why he's not only a demo expert but a sniper)

then he proceeds to be all humble about it and goes "oh any of my comrades would do the same thing" (okay mactavish but could any of your comrades do that so quick? be that accurate with shots? BE MORE PROUD OF YOURSELF)

that he almost faced disciplinary action for PUNCHING an MO in the face and LOCKING HIM in HIS OWN VEHICLE (this is so funny to me I need to know the whole story behind this. definitely shows Soap has a bit of a hot temper and a tad impulsive, but I like to think that's mellowed out over the years since that was back in 2016)

also that the whole incident was so embarrassing for the officer that brass decided to not charge him (he just got his ass handed to him by a young solider who was probably in his early 20s at the time so valid ig. also do you think Price had a role to play in convincing the higher ups not to take action while being an exasperated dad? I think so. Soap got the scolding of his life by him)

the fact that the only visible tattoo he has is of the SAS logo on his forearm for everyone to see (given that he was obsessed with getting into the SAS he must've been so happy to actually pass selection he immediately got this tattoo this has to be true)

og soap had a tattoo of a revolver on the back of his neck and one isn't visible on reboot soap but I'd like to think he has one too somewhere (maybe shoulder? Or back? Or thigh?)

that he has a journal and is an artist <3 (I want this shown somehow in the next game or make a reboot journal come on Activision)

that he hates dogs (og soap got rabies, I'd like to think something similar happened to reboot soap where Price is the only one that knows and he begs him not to tell anyone cause he's lowkey - ok maybe highkey- embarrassed)

I'd screamed, sobbed, wailed, and just about every other sound that could signal I was not supposed to be trapped… wherever the hell I was currently trapped at.

Only… no noise was escaping my lips?

My eyes darted open (I didn't even know I still had the ability to do that in my current state), landing directly on someone who was in the same position as I was—painted up with makeup, sporting a fancy dress, and immobilized, most likely due to whatever this freak was shooting into her veins via the IV my eyes wandered to.

I managed to look down at my own arm, noticing I too was being injected with whatever this seamstress-turned-kidnapper's preferred paralytic drug was.

"She's coming back," she struggled to say, her head pointed toward the floor.

My eyes flickered in the same direction, landing on a third woman, who was presumably in the same condition as us.

I watched as she managed to climb back into her chair, acting as casually as possible, considering the circumstances.

My heart raced as our kidnapper stepped back into the room, a panicked look spread across her face. As if she were the one who should be panicking.

Her face only contorted more as she noticed the disassembled mannequin laying on the floor. "I must've missed that part too," I thought to myself.

Next thing I knew, her hand was grasped around a pair of tailor's shears, her panic turning to disappointment. "Don't leave me," she practically begged the third woman.

She maneuvered her head to make eye contact with our kidnapper (admittedly something I wouldn't have had the gumption to do if she were holding scissors that close to me). "Let us go," she said, struggling to get her words out.

"I can't," she replied in a pout.

"Like hell you can't," I wanted to say. If it weren't for my lack of strength and the fact that she was holding shears, I might've let the sentence slip.

And then, in the amount of time it took to snap your fingers, it happened. I knew I'd be rescued.

"Samantha," an oddly familiar voice spoke behind me. Where did I know that voice? "Hi, my name's Spencer. I'm with the FBI."

My mind went hazy as I processed his words. Did the FBI really care enough to get involved in a couple missing persons' cases? I recalled wondering who'd want to put out a missing persons' report for me.

I wasn't sure how much time had passed, but the next thing I knew, I was surrounded by medics, the one on my right cleaning up where my IV had been placed while the one on my left listened to my heart beat.

Within minutes, I'd already started to feel my senses come back. Though it was a small victory, I'd never found so much relief as I had in discovering that I'd regained the ability to wriggle my fingers and toes.

The voice from earlier returned as he walked around the table, standing where all three of us could see him. "My name is Spencer Reid. I'm with the FBI," he repeated, his hands clasping together awkwardly. I could tell by the look on his face that he was internally searching for his words.

His face. Where did I know that face from?

His face. I could've stared at it all day if I'd been allowed to. I probably could've gotten away with it too, played it off later like the drugs had still been in my system, slightly paralyzing the movement of my eyes.

I held back my gazing, though I internally replayed visions of his features, from those hazel eyes to the tiny divot on his chin to the light shadow of a mustache above his perfectly plump lips.

OK, seriously, why could I recall so much about this man I'd just spent no more than seven seconds looking at?

"I'm Agent Rossi," a man with lightly peppering, raven hair spoke, breaking me from my strange state of déjà vu. "If it's OK, Agent Reid and I would like to collect some statements from you ladies once you've been thoroughly looked over at the hospital."

One of the other women managed a moan that signaled understanding, while I managed two nods of the head. I internally rejoiced once more at my second, small victory.

The entire ambulance ride, I thought about Agent Reid, beating myself up for not remembering where I'd previously run into this man. I played through flashback after flashback, memory after memory, attempting to place this FBI agent with stupidly pretty, shoulder-length hair.

I thought about it through my exam. I thought about it as I lightly chewed on a cup of ice chips one of the nurses brought me. I thought about it as he stepped behind the curtain, file in one hand and pen in the other, prepared to interview me.

"Hi, I'm Dr. Reid," he reintroduced himself for a third time.

Doctor Reid… why did that sound more familiar?

"I'm here to collect a few statements for the FBI, if that's OK," he continued on.

I nodded silently, swallowing down another ice chip. "I'm Y/N Y/L/N," I clarified, knowing he'd probably ask me for that anyway.

I noticed his eyebrows ruffling as he sat down, mouth creasing tightly as opened the file.

The room stayed silent for a beat, our eyes surveying each other as the two of us slowly realized that the other person was also experiencing a strange case of déjà vu. My cheeks felt hot as I processed how long his eyes had been on me.

He licked his lips lightly, an expression of either regret or embarrassment coming over his face. "Pardon me, but don't I know you from somewhere?"

Somewhere… the flash of a casino surged through my mind.

"Oh, my God! The Grand Diamond!" I finally placed his face. "You're the one who got banned after the owner lost $8,000 to you on discount night!"

His face blushed crimson, as if he'd almost forgotten this event. "I guess you're right. That did happen, didn't it?" he said, scratching at the back of his neck.

"Yeah, I used to be a bartender there."

His eyes narrowed, like he was remembering something else. "Yeah, you're the one that makes those delicious mojitos."

This time, I blushed. "I don't know about that. It might've just been that you had three of them. If I'd had that many, I would've passed out on the poker table," I joked.

My joke elicited a small chuckle to escape his lips. "I'm just glad to know my card counting abilities still stand even in my state of tipsiness."

Soon enough, he'd collected my statements, which was less than a fun experience for me, considering I had to relive all the events I'd been through in the last twenty-four hours.

I watched as he stood up from his chair, filed clutched closely to his chest as if he were afraid of losing it. He gave me a kind, farewell smile as he stepped closer to the curtain.

I couldn't tell who was more shocked when I spoke up one last time. "Hey, Dr. Reid?"

He turned back to face me, eyebrows furrowed once again. "Yes?"

"I, uh…" I searched for something to say, knowing that no matter what I said, I'd just incriminate myself. After a few awkward seconds of silence, I landed on, "I know of some really fun casinos in the area, much better than the Grand Diamond, considering it's not all that grand."

His mouth formed into a closed-lip grin. "We'll have to compare and contrast our lists, considering I've been kicked out of a majority of casinos here," he chuckled, reaching in his back pocket.

I nearly shivered as our fingertips brushed together, my eyes watching as he seamlessly slipped a business card into my palm.

"Get well soon," he commented as he turned away, and I could've sworn I heard him smirk (if that was possible).

"Hmm," I hummed to myself, "Maybe déjà vu isn't so bad after all."

Anthidial is a gender descriptor, that describes genders that have qualities that present as a specific gender alignment(s), however don’t accurately fit under these things.

The main kinds of gender this was coined to cover being genders relating to concepts, as concepts are quite broad in functionality, since while some concepts ARE tied traditionally to gender, some aren’t and generally are referred to a xenine gender.

However this isn’t only what Anthidial covers, as it also covers ANY gender that can be described as having qualities of other specific things, while not being that thing.

Examples of what this includes (not ONLY what it can include, just some examples):

Concept related genders that aren’t accurately explained under the xenogender umbrella, however also aren’t described by concepts usually prescribed to gender. This can include genders relating to emptiness, wholeness, tiredness, wakefulness, alertness, etc. as these are emotions sometimes prescribed to gender or how one experiences genders, however in this case they’re apart of or included in an abstract concept.

Terms relating to how one uses a gender term, whether it be literally, figuratively, metaphorically, etc. such as an individual who uses catgender to explain how one’s gender feels like how a cat behaves, versus believing their gender is catgender in itself.

Genders described as being similar to existing genders but not being them, such as Antigender, Offgender, etc. This can include genders where one’s gender could be described as “male/female/aporaine/outherine/xenine” but just is something else, and can’t be accurately described as those terms.

Anyways yeah had an idea for coining something like this for a while now with the whole “what’s a xenogender anyways” convo going on I noticed a sorta lack of a word people could find useful when coining or describing how their gender feels. There’s also a general lack of terms to describe how a term functions or how one uses terms so I kinda am on a move to coin some terms relating to that sometime idk when.

Anyways this term isn’t an umbrella term in itself it’s more like a bowl, if you feel like a term fits chuck it in, take it out if you want later, it’s just a word to help describe how a gender exists.

That being said this isn’t made to cover pre-existing gender terms that inspired this term (Kenochoric, Luxine, etc.) unless the original coiner explicitly says they’d consider it to be Anthidial. I just felt like MAYBE I’ll coin some things in the future that might fit the gap/blur between Outherine and Xenine since gender is weird, and kinda wanted a baseline term for myself to work off of, one that wasn’t absurdly broad like neogender lol. (I’ll probably coin some genders that could be considered anthidial to feminine, meaning they’re not actually fem but got the qualities, idk)

Like I said Anthidial is to be used like a bowl, not an umbrella. Terms coined with Anthidial in mind are generally seen as their own thing vs an “anthidial gender”. If you have food in a bowl you’re not looking at the bowl that much yeah? This term is mostly for potential classification reasons if any coiners feel like this fits something they might coin feel free to use it.

The wording explaining how something is anthidial may be as long or as short as one wants, it could be as simple as “[x] is anthidial, and therefore isn’t [gender term/umbrella]” and may go over some reasons whether or not the coiner has words to put to it. Anthidial isn’t really to be used as a gender in itself, but if someone feels like it’s a term that can describe their gender vs other terms, feel free to use it ig. It’s supposed to be flexible lol.

I’ll probably edit this at some point if anyone wants to put in any feedback that’d be great. Just noticing how long my rambling is getting vs the actual coining is, oops lol.

Oh yeah the flag was based off of the outherine and xenogender flags b/c I was originally gonna coin this as something else, but decided on this instead. The flag looked nice so I decided to use it anyways.

Oh yeah the name is based on Anthro+mid+ial, I was just looking at general root words and felt like this might fit the best. Since human concepts and all, middle of things, etc. idk how else to explain it lol.

The Menu (2022)

SPOILERS

Loved this bizarre thriller/horror film. It was the first film to grab my attention in awhile. Ralph Fiennes was smoothly evil. Anya-Taylor Joy was also great.

Fiennes is a famous chef who has a fancy restaurant on an deserted island. Only the rich & famous can go there & a group of them do. Turns out they all are pretty awful & deserve they’re upcoming desserts - except Joy who was a replacement guest & out heroine on this ride into hell.

I loved the scathing attacks on foodies, entitled rich twits, cheating spouses, self-important food critics, etc. The shaming of Nicholas Hoult’s IG picture-taking foodie I thought was totally on point. A foodie who can’t cook to save their life. Or there’s the food critic that is able to ruin restaurants with a bad review - & could care less. Or the cheating husband who comes often to this fancy restaurant but can’t remember a single thing he ate there. Or the rich dbags who start pulling the I know rich-person card when they don’t get what they want (really? Having a melt down over no bread?). Accurate how these places don’t cook with love any more. All the joy has been sapped from it.

Now, Fiennes as the maniac chef took things way too far on this madhouse ride but it was fascinating to watch. Definitely a descent into madness.

Now streaming on HBO Max & I will definitely be buying a physical copy soon.

What doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger…

Okay, so here’s the context behind this piece: this whole thing began when I came across Matt Ryan Tobin’s alternative poster for the 1985 horror movie “Silver Bullet”, which (surprise, surprise) is about a werewolf killing a bunch of people

I thought this poster was so cool (much better than the actual poster, imo), and bc I was suffering from The Quarry brainrot for a couple of weeks at that point, I thought “hey, this would be pretty cool if it was The Quarry themed”

And so, I sat down and began drawing immediately. Nearly a month later, this project could finally be deemed finished! I couldn’t share this on August 22nd like I originally planned, so I figured the next best time would be on Halloween

I had a lot of fun recreating this awesome movie poster, and I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I do!

2022 Nov 19 – Finlandia-klubi, Lahti

So one of my friends just moved to Helsinki this week, which means a bit more variety in my social life, which is pretty great. It also meant that it was easy to meet up at the train station and go to Lahti together. I had extended to her the invitation to see Senpai with me and we had had the whole trip decided upon and planned out long before she found out that she'd be moving, so it mostly just simplified the logistics. [1]

There was some kickboxing event in progress in the main atrium of Sibeliustalo, to which the club is attached [2], which made for an... interesting mix of people going through the lobby.

The usual suspects (like myself) were of course at the start of the queue. But maybe because I actually had a companion this time, they didn't try to engage me in conversation.

It was another sold-out show so it was actually really cramped at the front and my arm waving was nigh impossible. The performance had a bit of a rocky start but it resolved itself pretty quickly.

This time Senpai and I did BOTH finger guns and thumbs-ups at each other. He can stop doing that any time, really :) Certainly there are other number 1 fans?

Balloons were lobbed into the audience because of the one song that references balloons. You can also buy your own baggie of balloons to inflate at home, but I ... don't know why you would? (people DID buy them though.)

Unsurprisingly they played Kohti sydänpeltoja, although there wasn't a whole lot of choreography so I suspect they're still working on it for next year.

My friend enjoyed it quite a lot and remarked on how they were all smiling the whole time. It's exactly this energy that makes you forget, well, all your other cares for a day or two.

We hung around afterwards until Pate was done chatting with the other "usual suspects" just to say hi and to tell him that for once I wasn't alone fangirling by myself. I had with me a nice printed copy of the MtG card alter that I made for Senpai's birthday (it was a month ago), but I didn't have him take it backstage. I had said on my IG that it was for "the next time we meet" so I kind of do want to give it to Senpai personally. It'll just have to be at the fan club reception in a couple of weeks.

I can't remember if I've ever been so tired after a gig even without my dramatic flailing.

I am not entirely sure about the wisdom of having a nightclub-type performance venue that you have to access via a flight of normal spiral stairs. Sure, there's a cargo elevator, but like if you've had a couple of drinks and need to duck out to use the bathroom...

[1] Aside: The hotel we spent the night at was, in a lot of ways, a 1970s time capsule. But a significant part of downtown Lahti is a 1970s time capsule, and I sometimes wonder whether they're keeping the "Sin City"/"Chicago of Finland" vibe going on purpose.

[2] Or more accurately it's the other way around since the club is in the old, historical part of the complex.

My life could be more than it's been [time to come out of that “toolbox”? Lockdown forced many people to do self-reflection. Looking inward and evaluate what’s going on in their lives, where they are, and where they want to be, and what they truly value. It sounds like this is what happened for Ash, as well.]

I should meet other people [try to get out of one’s own head and connect with others.]

And see what they mean [Listening and exploring others ideas and perceptions, asking questions of others]

This sounds to me like it’s about having to play pretend that he’s in these relationships and is different than what he says in his art as part of his public image, but actually he’s “not on the team” because he “bats for the other team” aka gay. If this is accurate, then I want to say how proud I am of him! ❤️🏳️‍🌈]

stranger things + fandom spaces

idrk which fandom spaces typically cross over with the stranger things fandom, but as someone who is an avid marauders stan, joining this fandom has genuinely given me whiplash. 

for those who don’t know, the marauders fandom is like a subfandom within the harry potter fandom, and it’s a predominantly queer space, much like the byler subfandom of the stranger things fandom. 

the source material the marauders fandom have really isn’t much (because *spoilers* these characters are side characters, and most of them are dead when they’re mentioned in canon), so technically its a bunch of queer kids making shit up about their fav characters (like right down to their basic personality traits because we literally know NOTHING about them). which doesn’t have to be a bad thing — i personally find so much beauty in this little community and ik i’ll always cherish it — but the fact it exists at all, speaks to much more pressing issues that i’ll get into later. 

but look... idk wtf is in the water where the stranger things’ GA lives, but i’ve never seen a group of people so openly and unequivocally bigoted in fandom spaces. maybe it’s just my luck being in the marauders fandom (we do have shitty incidences, don’t get me wrong), but it so blatant in the st fandom. 

like people COMPLAINING about max being disabled after vecna’s attack, and saying outright that she’s better off dead. people using the 80s as an excuse to justify not having quality queer representation on the show. people JUSTIFYING billy’s abuse and racism just bc he’s hot. people sympathising with jason despite PULLING A GUN ON LUCAS. people saying will should contract hiv/aids and die because it’s accurate for him in 1980s america as a queer boy. people denying will’s sexuality (even AFTER noah confirmed it) and insisting he’s in love with el. people saying robin will “wake up” and realise her feelings for steve. people having no issue being outright racist, homophobic, and ableist to the few minority characters we have. 

it’s genuinely fucking insane. 

and i think maybe it’s so surprising to me specifically is because i purposefully avoid mainstream media. the marauders fandom basically just consumes fanfic (all hail lord zeppazariel). it’s kinda our new “source material” ig, because who wants to read what stinky terfs have to write? but what i love most about it is the fact i don’t have to worry about the quality of representation or whether there will be explicit representation at all, because in fanfic, it’s written by us, for us. 

i only started watching stranger things THIS year in 2022 (bc my gay ass saw an edit of nancy wheeler and i binged the entire show in a week for her but moving on) and i kinda already knew the show was going to have a white cishet majority. but it’s just insane that even GA isn’t satisfied with being the majority. they want to push out any scrap of representation the show gives minority audiences, as if the show isn’t literally about OUTCASTS.

like this show, called STRANGER THINGS, at its core, is about minorities. it’s about the “weird”, it’s about queerness. it’s about those pushed to the sidelines, those on the periphery. it’s about the nonconformists, the marginalised — ITS ABOUT US.

just seeing so many white, able-bodied, cishet people treat it like it isn’t, just astounds me. it really just reinforces how much i despise being outside of queer spaces like the marauders fandom, because this behaviour? it would never slide there.

and like i said, im beyond thankful to be part of a community where a bunch of queer people create and share art, purely because we love these characters and we feel seen by them. i love the marauders fandom and the people in it. but the reason it exists at all is because we were initially excluded from the canon.

it’s bittersweet, because whilst i’m so proud of the people in the fandom creating these beautiful stories and fanarts, the fact we have to write our stories in the first place to feel represented is fucked. we deserve better than that — the byler subfandom deserves better than that.

i have no doubt in my mind that even in the VERY RARE occurrence byler doesn’t happen, this subfandom will prevail like the marauders fandom (which is 20 years old btw!). but it shouldn’t be like this. this shouldn’t have to happen. ever.

it’s exhausting having to draw representation from subtext. it’s exhausting having to create our own representation FOR FREE. this is not something we should have to do, and i hold out so much hope for s5 because it will make or break the entire show.

we deserve to be included in the canon. we shouldn’t have to do the labour that showrunners were too scared or indifferent to commit to. we deserve to sit back and enjoy like GA has the privilege of doing.

of 2020?? defs chain of gold by cassandra clare. why, you ask? idk im just a bitch for the shadowhunter books 💀💀 nah jokes there are defs reasons, but me already being in love w the shadowhunter universe definitely plays a major part. ummm fav book of 2022 ?? on earth, maybe. it's not a '22 book but i didnt read it until this year i think. tbh i'm not sure when i read it AHHA (i just know i havent read much this year sigh)

18. your least favourite book ever

i... don't know. if i dont like a book i dont tend to finish it? but i easily get invested in and love the media i consume so there's none i would consider my 'least favourite'.. even the ones we read in school, i found something to love about them. but, uh. city of bones is always very difficult to reread. can't ever really do it. i tend to just skip it HAHAHA

66. a book that fucked you up

on earth, but not in a bad way. and the perks of being a wallflower as well, but in a different way as well. i fell like if i read a little life it'll probably be here HAHAHA. OH WAIT OH WAIT release by patrick ness. i??? i dont remember why i bought it but i know that i got to some scenes that i was not expecting and it made me really??? confused and uncofmortable at the time, but i don't remember why.

92. a book about a redeemable villain

i.. am going to tentatively say dark rise by c.s.pacat. the more i think about it the more i think it counts, but i dont wanna spoil anything so... anyways 10/10 rec this book/series.

the last hours trilogy, my beloved, by cassandra clare. cordelia carstairs <3 <3 <3 BUT UH too many shadowhunter books so uh instead. throne of glass series by sarah j. maas! not only the main protag, but also lysandra ! defs grew on me.

UHHHHHHHH off the top of my head u cant think of anything that actually fits the da genre/aes, but i have the atlas six on my to be potentially read list?? wait. idk if the his dark materials trilogy by philp pullman counts as DA but if it does... yes.

urusla k. le guin's the left hand of darkness!! it's scifi (and fantasy?? idk) and there's a lot of world building and new terms that can be really confusing (but there are a multitude of lists online w the different terms and definiitions) but the concept and the ideas/social commentary is >>> it was one of my favourite texts to study in school, and now that i'm older and have studied it, i really want to reread it again! (it was a yr12 lit text so.. i'm not really that much older but still AHAH)
