Ace believes it's the teenage boy's dream to see their crush in a swimsuit.

What he didn't expect, though, was the surge of protectiveness that washed over him and how much he wanted to hide you from everyone.

He had only been away for less than ten minutes, offering to grab you a bottle of water when you mentioned feeling thirsty. But in that short span, a group of guys had already approached you. The sight of a few guys talking to you makes his blood boil. He quickens his pace, feeling a pang of jealousy rising within him.

"Hey, is everything okay here?" he interjects, his voice steady but his jaw clenched with an underlying tension.

The guys glance at him, sensing his protective stance. "Yeah, just chatting," one of them replies, though they seem to pick up on Ace's annoyance.

Without missing a beat, Ace steps closer, subtly positioning himself between you and the group. "Well, it looks like the conversation's over," he says firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.

The guys exchange awkward glances before nodding and backing away, clearly getting the message.

With the guys finally dispersing, Ace releases a pent-up sigh, a muttered "Tch..." slipping from his lips as he battles to quell his simmering irritation. Despite the knot tightening in his chest, he extends the bottle of water towards you, a forced smile masking his inner turmoil.

"Thanks," you respond, your eyes fixed on him with a curious intensity as you accept the drink and take a sip.

His gaze remains fixed on you, his mind swirling with thoughts of how alluring you look, now amplified by that damn red flower you plucked earlier, currently tucked behind your right ear. He finds himself entranced by the way the flower accentuates the curve of your cheek, how its vibrant petals seem to echo the flush of your lips.

But he knows that it's not the flower itself that makes you beautiful—it's you, in all your radiant splendour, that leaves him completely spellbound.

"...Aren't you bothered at all by those guys?" he asks quietly, a hint of jealousy evident in his voice.

You chuckle softly, shaking your head. "No," you say thoughtfully. "They're harmless,"

"Harmless?" Ace raises an incredulous eyebrow. "Why?"

"They're not my type."

He pauses, processing your words before curiosity gets the better of him. "... What's your type then?"

You smile knowingly, your fingertips tracing the delicate petals of the hibiscus flower nestled behind your right ear as you tuck your hair in place. With a deliberate slowness, you pivot to face Ace, your eyes locking with his in a gaze so profound that it feels as though it's delving into the depths of his soul.

He finds himself completely mesmerised as the sunlight caresses your skin, casting a radiant glow that seems to highlight your every feature; the gentle breeze tousles your hair, creating a halo of golden strands that frames your face in an ethereal light; the vibrant hibiscus illuminating the clarity of your eyes under the golden rays of sunshine.

He drinks in every detail, every movement, etches itself into his memory, leaving an indelible imprint that he knows he will carry with him long after this day is over.

Your finger playfully jabs his chest, breaking him out of his trance.

"Bleh~" you taunt, your tongue poking out mischievously. "I'm not telling you!" With a teasing grin, you swiftly dart away, leaving him flustered by your evasion.

Before he can gather his thoughts, you're already in motion, leaving him trailing behind. "Wha- Hey, wait up!" he calls after you, his feet stumbling as he hastens to catch up, determined not to let you slip away.

A whirlwind of theories are swirling in his mind, but he is intent on hearing what your type is straight from your own lips.

they all gasp and you don’t see minho’s small smile as his hand skims over your hips. “WHAT,” hyunjin says loudly. “i’m going to–”

“let’s prank him,” seungmin comments mischievously. “you’re not going to do ANYTHING,” you announce sharply as you take a sip of your taro tea. “ugh, i’ll tell you at dinner. soyeon gets to know first,” you say giving them a knowing glance.

“ok i got to go, catch up later?” minho grabs your hand before you leave. “text me so i can take you,” he whispers into your ear. “please yn.” you nod slowly. “okay minho.”

lino: at ur door

the doorbell rings exactly at that moment and you feel your cheeks flush as soyeon winks at you. “let me know how it goes,” she grins. you roll your eyes as you open the door.

“hi.”

“hey.” lee know stares at you, his eyes going up and down your body. your hand stays awkwardly glued to the door as you and minho compete in a staring contest.

“minho, bring yn back in one piece, okay?” soyeon calls, breaking the silence between you two. minho smirks. “got it, soyeon,” he replies as you take his hand and step out.

“are you okay yn?” minho asks as soon as you’re out of the house. “i’m fine, why are you so worried?” you deflect the question, avoiding his eyes. he grabs your chin and makes you look up at him.

“i just want to make sure you’re okay and not like, i don’t know, devastatedly heartbroken or something,” minho responds sharply. 

“no, i’m most definitely heartbroken and sobbing inside that’s why i’m going out with you,” you retort sarcastically as lee know starts driving. he sighs. “i’m fine, you know that right?”

“yes,” he says finally. you fall silent for a minute before saying, “aren’t you supposed to be happy i don’t have a boyfriend anymore?”

minho hums the notes of megaverse before replying, “i don’t know, am i?”

“lee minho.” he laughs. “okay fine, i am. a little.” you raise your eyebrows until he admits, “fine i was lying. yes. a lot.”

Life, sort of

I can't access Twitter lately, so I thought mb I should try to be more active here. Yes, I know I said it before, but my VPN hasn't been working for weeks and I kind of miss people. I miss life, in general. For the past nearly 2 years, life has been hell in my country: mass arrests, toxic propaganda, army drafts, idiotic laws, silencing the media and public opinion, to say nothing of the horror we have been inflicting on another country. I don't know about most people but I do feel ashamed and depressed, even though I am, have always been, and always will be staunchly anti-war. Seriously, how have people not learnt to solve their disagreements in a less insane way over the course of our history?

Today, yet another "great" news: LGBT is now considered an extremist organization. They've done all they could to torment queer people short of criminalizing queerness itself. They keep promoting so-called "traditional" values, debating whether women should be allowed access to higher education (I kid you not, this is us in the 21st century) and abortion, all the while wasting 40% of the budget on war; in the meantime, all their beloved "traditional" families live in poverty and find their social support cut. You can get 7, 15, 30 years in prison for changing price tags in a supermarket to anti-war statements, staging an anti-war play, digging into government corruption. Children are being force-fed "patriotic" claptrap at school. Bloggers get fined, arrested or forced to leave the country because they fear for their safety. Life here is a cruel joke.

I know that I personally have little reason to complain, since I haven't been arrested (yet), nor have any of my loved ones. But it doesn't mean I don't get panic attacks (I had them before, I've been seeing a therapist for 6 years, and this situation IS derailing my progress) or fear for the future. My personal future feels ruined too: I can't travel, I can't see my BFF who lives abroad, I can't get paid for my stories even if I do manage to publish them (I write in English and have had 4 stories published in America, but we can neither send, nor accept payment from abroad lately). All this feels so small compared to what other people go through, in both our countries, but it's big to ME. I can't look into the future with any kind of hope because I don't want to live in the country that makes its people and another nation suffer. (Don't get me started on actual things our politicians say, like: Well, if smb drops a nuke on us, it'll be fine, as long as it's not on the capital. [FYI, I live in the capital, but it doesn't mean turning the rest of the country into a nuclear wasteland is fine by me. WUT EVEN!])

Everyone hates my country. We deserve it. I hate my own inability to change that but I'm neither brave, nor smart enough to do anything. When it all started, I tried writing letters to politicians, but this ain't America, nb listens to the people here. The only reply I got was smth like: Well, the West is threatening us, we must defend ourselves, so STFU. Idk what bizarre illusionland these ppl live in. Last time I checked WE were threatening everybody. Including ourselves.

What's the point of this TL;DR? Idk. To speak out in some way, I guess. Like I said, my VPN isn't working, and I can't access Twitter, which is my usual platform for whining XD I'll try to post smth more positive some time. Among other platforms that don't work without VPN are: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Goodreads, AO3, various torrent sites, BBC sites, many kinds of Western media, and probably a hell of a load more I don't know about. I admire the reporters who are still publishing the truth. It's impossible to hide it from the people these days, but unfortunately, most people just watch TV, which spouts disgusting lies and propaganda.

Nostalgia is a fashionable thing lately, and here's my two cents: I loved the late 90s - early 2000s. Yes, we had problems then too. Like financial crises and local wars. But we had freedom of speech, independent news, we at least tried to respect human rights, we could travel, we had cultural exchanges, foreign tourists, and nb hated us more than any other country. I wasn't ashamed to admit where I was from. I never felt I'd be stuck in a totalitarian state because surely, surely we'd learned! We'd been through it and it wouldn't repeat again. But I guess "all of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again" is a very true saying. I'm so tired. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I do feel very alone whenever I read the news. I'm lucky in the sense that my family at least shares my opinion, but on a grand scale? I don't know if any meaningful change can be achieved when we can't even form proper opposition: a few parties/organizations both here and abroad are usually at each other's throats instead of working together. So yeah, I'm tired, disappointed, depressed, and idk what else to say.

Watching Professor Crane work had always been an experience. The way he watched the volunteers with rapt attention, how he'd pace around, muttering their fears under his breathe and how'd he bring them to life. It was like watching a god up close, in some odd way. Watching one of the most brilliant men in the city up close and personal while he shared his deepest fears, his biggest regrets, and his proudest achievements. Being his lab assistant was a privilege, even you knew that.

You're quite glad nothing really changed after he became Scarecrow.

"Patient 571 shows signs of thalassophobia, along with megalohydrothalassophobia." You blinked, eyebrows furrowing as you tried to remember what exactly those phobia's were. You knew both had to do with water, though, so you kept your mouth shut. "Grows increasingly nervous when nearby bodies if water if they are more than seven inches deep, seven inches exact. He shows resistance to my toxins in gas forms, indicating he may have had a drowning accident as a young boy." Jonathan circled the glass room, similar to how a tiger would circle it's prey, eyes sharp and darting. He was drinking in the man's fear, watching every little tick and flinch the gas caused him. "Further tests will have to be run, preferably with a less typical phobia next time."

Jonathan released the recorder, pocketing it as he walked back to where you were sitting. "He's been holding his breath," you pointed out, "its not for the gas, is it?"

"Doubtful." Jonathan replied, leaning against the table behind your chair. You gave him your full attention, head tilting. "Tell me, my star pupil," he looked down at you, eyes glinting dangerously behind his glasses, "what is does thalassophobia mean exactly? Hm?"

"Erm," your fingers tapped against your legs as you thought it over. Whatever you told him would be an educated guess, but you'd rather give him one than not. "The fear of deep water?"

"No." leaning down, he came face to face with you, grabbing the collar of your shirt to keep you from scooting away. "I should punish you for getting such a simple question wrong, but," he stood back up, leaving you flustered and confused, "I suppose deep water is close enough. It's the fear of large bodies of water."

"So- so." You stammered, subtlety adjusting your shirt as you tried to calm your blush down. You glanced back at the subject, who was struggling to hold his breath and not move. "He's hallucinating he's in water?"

"Exactly." Jonathan purred, grazing your cheek with the back of his finger. You fought the urge to lean against it, staying still to keep up the 'professional' act. "Think of it like this, when you start sinking, do you start panicking, or do you accept it?"

"In a literal sense, or a fear sense?"

"Both work."

You considered the idea, vaguely recognizing the question from when you were still a student, and he was still a professor. "It depends on the person." You finally decided, turning to face him once more. "Some people panic, some grown violent, while others freeze."

TL;DR OP is using this as a way to mix her two hyperfixiations into one thing

• you're a Jade main who, although is not considered a "professional gamer", can handle yourself pretty well in an online match

• after going thru several players and mopping the floor with them you match up with a Shao Kahn player

• "cheesy" you cant help but chuckle at the name and assume this to be a easy fight against someone who isn't above the age of 10

• as soon as the round starts you're immediately backed into a corner by a barrage of combo attacks from the other player

• suddenly straightening up in your seat your grip on the controller gets tighter as your health gets lower and lower with each brutal attack of the heavy weights hammer

• you finally got yourself grounded enough to land a few critical hits to him but it wasn't enough to save you. and before you know it, you hear those familiar words

• "finish her!"

• you feel your nose twitch in irritation as the player throws in a taunt at the end of the 1st round

• "How disappointing." Shao Kahn wags a finger in front of him as the 2nd round begins

• usually you would roll your eyes at the use of the taunt, but with this particular player...

• you welcome the challenge

• the second round begins and once again "handsome_starr" releases a flurry of attacks that leaves you in the corner completly at his mercy

• dont get it wrong, you have played as shao kahn before. you know his combos, fatalities, general move set, etc. you're no stranger to the character.

• but the way this player managed to move this heavy character around so swiftly was something you couldn't wrap your head around

• thankfully you've wised up by now, so you dodge Jade out of the way before Shao Kahn lands a devastating blow with his war hammer

• the match ends with "starr" getting the victory, much to your dismay

• naturally, you rematch with the player and you two go at it for way longer than you both realize

• after the 3rd or 4th rematch you get a notification at the top left corner of your TV screen

• "handsome_starr sent you a friend request"

• you exit out of the game momentarily and accept the pending request

• as soon as the action goes through you receive a message from your new friend

• short, sweet, and to the point. nice

• "u 2" you reply

• "I like ur play style w/ Jade. its cool !"

• your mouth curled up into a smirk, pride swelling up in your chest at the compliment. you decided to return the favor to him and give him some very much needed credit as well

• time once again slips past you two as you talk over the system chatroom for what seems like mere minuets. But when you glance at the display clock on screen it shows that a few hours have passed

• how you both managed to type for such a long time using game controllers is beyond anyone

• this quickly becomes a thing between you guys

• you power on your console, play some games, get a notif from starr asking to play MK11, then go back and forth in the mobile chatroom (you learned from last time)

• you also learned that starr isnt just an amazing shao kahn player but he's an even better spawn player too

• one day while the two of you are chatting after a particularly good match (you decimated him in all 3 matches. props to you being a quick learner and spotting his patterns) starr ask a question you weren't quite expecting

• "socials?"

• you stared at the screen for a second as you realized what starr meant by that. why did you never think of this before?

• you thought about every middle school online safety video you were shown as a kid

• well...starr doesn't seem like a murderer who will stalk you so..

I made that post about Dora and her being middle class and I already regret it. I’ve had ppl in the replies and also just vagueing abt it and I am getting a bit tired. I wasn’t expecting the post to get any attention since I didn’t have any de mutuals at the time (hence why it was in that meme format of me shouting into the ear of somebody who didn’t care 💀) so I didn’t word it thoughtfully enough ig

I don’t think Dora is a shrew or a villain or whatever. I don’t think leaving Harry was an evil or even wrong decision. I said in the post I don’t think Harry is a victim of Dora at all, he’s a cop and a violent pos and she needed to get out. I don’t even think that being middle class makes her evil or whatever. I don’t dislike her and I don’t think she is the cause of Harry’s problems or that she owed him anything. I just thought that some of her dialogue in the dream sequence reflected some interesting stuff abt her being middle class and how it puts a particular kind of wedge between her and Harry. Not the one that ultimately split them, obviously, just an interesting one in the sense that she’s so entirely sheltered from the realities of poverty and addiction and psychosis, and also that she has the resources to leave all of those realities behind, unlike Harry or any of the people of Martinaise. I think that’s a morally neutral fact, it’s just an interesting facet of de’s ruminations on class to me, as someone who has dealt w disability, suicidality, and institutionalization.

I brought up the Dolores Dei comparison bc I also found it interesting that she was such a complex figure in history and that she was described as being “sheltered” which was attributed to her war crimes. I don’t think Dora leaving Harry was on par with war crimes 💀 I just found it interesting how that was another example of the game musing about how the class divide damages one’s ability to conceptualize how the other half live, so to speak.

Again, I don’t hold anything against Dora. I don’t think she’s the villain here or whatever. I just think it’s fun and interesting that she has a lot of complexity going on, especially since Harry is an unreliable narrator on top of only remembering bits and pieces of her. I was just sharing something about the dream sequence that reminded me of my own personal experiences with people like Dora who can’t wrap their heads around what it’s like to want to die and how people get to that point, and how that lines up with class a lot of the time.

I also didn’t end it with that bit about Kim bc I think Kim is better than Dora or smth, but bc Kim is smth of a wish fulfillment fantasy for the suicidal, and that’s part of why Harry deifies him like that.

Anyway. I regret the post. I’m starting to get super worn down by ppl misreading it bc it was coming from such a personal place and I wasn’t expecting much engagement w it anyway. Sorry abt it I guess.

Yes yes, a Ramen restaurant, but see my vision here:

-Scar is the one who actually own the restaurant (a small one)

-Scar is the one who know how to make hand made noodle and it's the only cook, it's actually damn good at cooking

-The shop is open to the kitchen so he can make trick while cooking and show off (does it goes well all the time? It's Scar)

- unfortunately he can't for the love of god manage with other stuff like: insect, and has the habit of offering food to the client, and chatting too much,

-Grian actually just wanted a job for a bit, but at this point he feels bad leaving Scar on his own (wait how was the line in the series? "Now i don't feel good leaving him alone")

-Grian gets a lot of money out of this job actually

-Grian does scare and mess with Scar, the client do know that and keep quiet when something is up

-this only brings Scar to joke and mess with Grian back

-one more thing one time Scar bought the wrong beer brand and it tastes like shit but decided to sell it at an higher price, and pretend it's a special beer. Grian try to warning his friends form the terrible tasting beer but every time Scar menage to sell it. (Put here a clip of Grian telling people not to trust Scar)

Also, picture late night end shift after closing the shop, hanging out, and been too loud on the street, because they have one brain cell and not realizing the volume of their voices, and they are so tired, drinking together, and going home together. Maybe they don't live together but live close to each other, and have this moment of "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU LIVE HERE?"

the end bit reminds of smth I have actually:

I have a coffee shop au where grian, pearl, mumbo, and impulse all live in an apartment together (tight squeeze, but they make it work) and grian, pearl, and mumbo work at a little café called the happy hermit (which pays very well; impulse is also a mechanic) where the three have the opening shift of around 6am-2pm; impulse has a normal 9am-5pm workshift tho

scar is a high school art teacher and loves his job and upon a recommendation of a student, tries the happy hermit one morning and the first thing he does walking in is slip because mumbo spilled his coffee in the doorway and pearl was mopping it up for him. he takes the fall and embarrassing moment with kind humility and grian, the jaded af cashier/barista is like "what."

kinda your regular coffee shop au after that, with a bunch of nonsense, but the plot twist is this:

impulse has an off day and decides to tag along to help open the happy hermit and snag a fresh coffee, and upon watching scar walk in, greets him with, "Oh! Howdy neighbor!"

scar replies "Oh hey neighbor! What are you doing here?" while grian, pearl, and mumbo are too stunned to speak.

turns out scar actually lives in the apartment across from hall from them, but the trio's chaotic work schedule prevented them from running into scar leaving/coming back; impulse, on the other hand, runs into scar a lot, and even witnessed him fall halfway down a flight of stairs one morning and stand up unscathed.
