✧ warnings: none!
✧ characters included: christine daaé, erik destler, raoul de chagny, meg giry, carlotta giudicelli
✧ additional info: these can be read as any versions! however characters like christine and meg are mainly based off the book and musical versions :) can also be read platonically OR romantically
✧ nav. — m.list
Tumblr media
*ೃ༄ christine daaé
she does her makeup with you!
i feel like she prefers doing hers with someone in the room so she can a second opinion on how hers looks and she’ll do the same for them
she’d probably ask you to help her put some of it on cause book!christine canonically has bad vision
and she’d ask to do some of urs for funsies :)
despite her bad eyesight i feel like she’s actually very good at it cause she’s gotten used to it
overall a very nice experience cause christine is such a cutie <3
ೃ༄ erik destler
he’s intrigued
i feel like he also knows how to do makeup cause he wanted to cover up his face
anyway!! he’d only know how to use foundation and stuff for ur skin so hes rlly interested in mascara and eyeliner and eyeshadow and that stuff
100% let’s u try lipsticks on his arm
he also gives u his honest opinion on ur makeup when ur finished or almost finished (i hc hes brutually honest)
he also asks like a lot of questions
“what’s this” and he’s holding ur highlighter
probably also wants u to put some on him but is too afraid to ask
ೃ༄ raoul de chagny
he’s kind of like christine
but he’s much more energetic abt it
will suggest u wear the sparkliest eyeshadow he can find 😭
other than that he knows literally nothing about makeup but still wants to try and do it for you
and it’s best to say no because chances are he’ll fuck it up (badly)
he’ll also randomly pick something up and put it on himself for funsies
when he finds ur blush he’ll put them directly on his cheeks in circles like when little kids find their moms makeup
probably takes forever to clean him up too
he’s rlly inquisitive during it and asks nonstop questions but most of them are just to be annoying
ೃ༄ meg giry
almost the same as raoul but she mainly just yaps the whole time
it’s actually a very calming experience with her surprisingly
u just sit there and do ur thing and she’ll mind her own business and talk abt her day and asks abt urs too!
it’s also a gossip session
“i heard that carlotta might get fired and replaced by christine” is probably a common one
another one who’s brutually honest and gives her opinion
is not afraid to tell u if u look like shit but like 99% of the time she tells u look absolutely lovely
ೃ༄ carlotta giudicelli
so as we all know she’s kinda mean.. so she’s also very honest about your makeup
if your friends she’ll most likely just be saying it to make sure u look ur best, even if she is a little rude about it
if she doesn’t like you she just wants to piss you off
but she probably also wouldn’t be there if y’all weren’t friends
i feel like if u were taking too long or just didn’t look good enough (to her standards) she’d just be like “oh my god let me” and start doing it for u
if she’s not doing that she’ll use the time to practice her singing
she enjoys ur company and probably becomes nicer during this time <3
taglist : @faerieroyal (ik ur not on my phantom taglist but i love attention 😭)

Hey guys. Long time no post 🥀 I started a class on quantitative reasoning back at the end of June and it has had my soul strung on a wire since. When I tell you I've been exhAUSTED TO THE POINT OF DESPAIR — I have. But I feel kinda better now. I still have one week to go, so wish me luck, but hopefully after that I'll be active again.
I'm sorry I've neglected y'all and the blog, but passing math has been my top most priority and sometimes we have to prioritize things we don't particularly like.
How's everyone been? Knowing my luck I've probably missed something hilariously scandalous on TESblr. 🤣

What each marauder’s fav musical would be (in my opinion):
James - beetlejuice (chaotic af, funny and happy ending…)
Regulus - Jekyll and Hyde (thought provoking, sad ending also he’d find ‘bitch bitch bitch’ funny bc that’s lowkey exactly what the ppl at functions he has to attend are like. Also he loves ‘bring on the men’ and I won’t accept questions and if ur confused about the name, it’s exactly what it sounds like.)
Remus - Hamilton (he just…would love it.)
Sirius - Six (no question. And he would sing ‘Don’t lose ur head’ at the drop of a hat. He defo learnt the dance to ex-wives and six finale)
Peter - Dear Evan Hansen (he just gives me those vibes like he genuinely would love it and I love that 4 him)
Barty - Heathers (pretty sure this was in like one of my first posts too but he would LOVE heathers.)
Evan - Moulin Rouge! (OMG this one was actually hard icl I couldn’t think of one for ages but I actually think this is perfect for Evan. He definitely prefers like plainer style of stuff and shit and pretends not to like musicals but he goes excited like a puppy dog with proper heart eyes if you show him the absolutely over decorated stage they perform moulin rouge on. And you best believe he knows all the lyrics of ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry but no no my friend it’s not because he listens to her, in fact he’d probably be confused about the annoying pop song arrangement of ‘the song from moulin rouge’ also he loves the song mashup bit in ‘backstage romance’ that they dance to (if you don’t know what I mean then play this song but skip to 2:30 bc the start of the song won’t make sense without the entire plot detailed to you) because I say so because everyone does because it’s impossible not to.)
Mary - Anastasia (look I will not be accepting slander of this musical and neither would Mary. It is a masterpiece.)
Lily - Jesus Christ Superstar (fucking love this musical and only the best for Lily Evans. She would love it because I said so.)
Pandora - Hadestown (thought provoking, gorgeous music, based off a Greek myth. Just yes. Also I can picture her humming Orpheus’ tune but especially the extended bit in ‘wait for me’ )
Marlene - Les Misérables (ok so I know this might seem like an odd option for her but hear me out hear me out…Marlene attempting to perform all the parts in ‘one day more’ and blasting ‘Do you hear the people sing?’ from her phone as an attempt to scare people.)
Dorcas - Phantom of the Opera (the absolute dramatic theme is definitely her jam and she absolutely knows how to play it on every instrument. Like she doesn’t necessarily know how to play an instrument but you can bet she at least knows the phantom’s theme on it.)
my theatre kid side is rlly coming thru in this oops
also if anyone wants to know the specific albums (bc a lot of them have more than one recording) of the musical that I prefer and am thinking of as I write this then check below ‘keep reading’
beetlejuice/hamilton/anastasia all only have one - the original bway cast
Jekyll and Hyde - ‘Jekyll and Hyde: The Gothic Musical Thriller’ (the 1995 one with Anthony Warlow as J/H)
Six - ‘Six: the musical (studio cast recording)’ sorry to the Broadway cast lovers, I prefer the og Brit one bc it feels weird to hear them with American accents to me
Dear Evan Hansen - the original Broadway cast recording, not the movie one
Heathers - Original West end cast. Again sorry to all the ppl that prefer the off broadway one, west end heathers ver till I die, it’s just better like ‘never shut up again’? I say no? I’m sorry it’s just better, no matter how much u say ‘blue’ is better than ‘your welcome’
Moulin Rouge - original Broadway cast, as much as I love Nicole Kidman I just prefer the bway cast recording to the movie recs
Jesus Christ Superstar - ‘Jesus Christ Superstar (Remastered 2005)’ the one with the 1996 London cast, it’s just my favourite album of it because of the song arrangement
Hadestown - original Broadway cast recording (I feel like ppl don’t rlly listen to the concept album anymore bc it’s just so wildly different from how the actual show music ended up sounding, I do actually quite like it but the musical ver is better in my opinion)
Les Mis - holy shit there’s a lot of albums for this one, tbh I’m not thinking of a specific one but maybe the 2010 London recording - the live one(?) I just quite like it but tbh I listen to a diff album each time I swear 😭
Phantom of the Opera - the original 1986 London cast one bc I just prefer it to the movie

For #womenshistorymonth a look at some of the most important women in the history of The Phantom of the Opera.
Number 11. Mary Millar
In 1986 Mary Millar originated the role of Madame Giry in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera. This Madame Giry differs quite a lot from the original book where she was The Phantoms elderly box-keeper and messenger.
Mary created the blueprint of the strict ballet mistress struggling between her connection to "The Phantom" and her ties to the Opera Company.
She played the role for four years and appears on the original cast album.
The role was a stark contrast to her most famous role as Rose, the sexy, flirty but lonely sister of Hyacinth Bucket (Buquet) in "Keeping Up Appearances".
In 1960, Millar travelled to New York to understudy Julie Andrews in Camelot. She began her West End career in 1962 as Cloris in Lock Up Your Daughters. In 1969, she played the title role in the musical Ann Veronica, based on H. G. Wells' novel.
From 1997 to 1998, Millar played Mrs Potts in the London production of Beauty and the Beast, and appeared on the cast album.

Andrew Lloyd Weber Is the Greatest Musical Theater Overturist of All Time.
Okay, so, yeah.
Overtures. We all know them, we all acknowledge their existence (sometimes). And...that's about it. When it comes to Broadway musicals, the overture is becoming an outdated technique. There has been a rise in shows that instead of on an overture, just jump into the show's opening number, And for those shows that keep this format, how often is this overture added to the cast album? Yeah. Think about that.
When I say overture, what comes to mind? I'll tell you right now, actually. The Phantom of the Fucking Opera. I'll be the first to say that I believe Phantom in it's book and lyrics is weaker than most people believe it is, but there's something about that overture. The way it has cemented itself into musical theater history with the dark, electronic chords and harpsichord panic above is completely incredible and the in the case of almost any other composer, completely weird and forgettable.
I have to preface this by saying my appreciation for this overture was completely neutral until this past April. I was aware of its existence and that was about it. Then I watched it live. I had the incredible opportunity to see Phantom in Her Majesty's Theater in London mere weeks before it became His Majesty's Theater, which is completely off-topic but I'm proud of it. Before seeing the show, I had never listened to more than the titular song and like Music of the Night like once.
Guys. Present me cannot listen to the Phantom overture without getting full body chills. For those who have not seen the show, right as the show opens (pre-overture, which is an interesting choice), there is an auction being held for things from the old opera house. Everything is covered with tarps that read the names of each object. The largest, in the center, reads 'CHANDELIER'. After a short scene I'm not going to get into, the tarp is ripped from the chandelier, which begins to spark and flicker. Suddenly, the overture begins and the chandelier is thrust into the air, lighting to its full glory. Jesus Christ.
Chills chills chills chills forever and ever. Now, is the overture greater because of its staging? Oh, yes, 100%. And is it maybe the best overture ever? Yeah, maybe, but we must realize that there are other factors that make it feel this way- among these are its incredible staging as well as its icon status.
You know what overture doesn't have icon status that fully deserves it? Scroll up 2 paragraphs, right there at the end. Yeah. Jesus Christ Superstar.
I am in full belief that anyone who says they hate Jesus Christ Superstar is one of two people: A. The Person Who Has Never Listened To Jesus Christ Superstar, and B., Mean Girls Obsessionists (not to rag on Mean Girls like that, but hear me out for a moment). I am using Mean Girls as a blanket for contemporary musical theatre, with it's pop influences, clean, almost emotionless instrumentations, and sterilized pop belts. Especially that last bit.
I Hate Sterilized Musical Theater Belting.
Jesus Christ Superstar opens with a single distorted guitar riff. It's heavy, odd, and dark. Everything about this overture is rushed, imperfect, but so filled with emotion. You can feel the panic coming from the whole pit around the 1:30 mark, before it fizzles into the Heaven on Their Minds riff, which is just so fucking cool. I always encourage fans of 70s rock and roll to give the original concept album (The Only Real Jesus Christ Superstar Recording) a listen. I have also seen Superstar, though in just a small regional production (which was fantastic, stop immediately judging regional productions just because they're regional productions). It bursts into the motif of Superstar, the blazing gates of heaven melody that just completely blows you away upon first listen.
So here's your homework, if you made it to the end of this- Listen to Jesus Christ Superstar. Please.
That's all! Feel free to repost or comment or whatever and argue with me please!!!
TLDR: The best overtures of all time are from Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar and also you should love Jesus Christ Superstar as much as I do.

@nico-di-angelfish tagged me,, and I forget to do these if I don’t do them immediately so here are my 9 (current) favorite albums:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1 and 2 are both albums by The Clash. The first is their debut album, which has Remote Control, Garageland, and Hate and War. I love how gritty and honest it all is; strummer and jones both sound so sincere. Sandinista is my favorite album by them. It's a weird mishmash of sounds, but it's true. If you want to understand the album, listen to Washington Bullets, Corner Soul, and Something about England. I realize London Calling's absence is controversial.
3 is The Black Parade. This album got me through my first semester in college. I could listen to it for hours with friends trying to decipher what on earth is going on. Every time I think I've got a good grasp on it- it slips away.
4 is Sweeney Todd. I had to include Sondheim somehow, and I think this is one of his best works. Johanna (quartet), Epiphany, and the final sequence are unskippable. Also,, "and though I'll think of you I guess until the day I die, I think I miss you less and less as every day goes by, Johanna" it's not sad, it's just... you sort of forget as you're watching that it's the system that made Sweeney, and he's not inherently a bad guy. "And you'd be beautiful and pale and look too much like her. If only angels could prevail, we'd be the way we were". Sweeney throughout the show doesn't try to make the audience like him. sometimes he explains his world view, but it's not in search of acceptance. This is the one time where he's letting his softer emotions out and we see the man that once was.
5. I don't even know where to begin. I'm talking about the 1973 version. Nothing more to say.
6 is representative of Willam Finn in general, but @nico-di-angelfish already put falsettos. I think I listen to 25th Annual more anyway, especially lately. I made the mistake a few years ago of only listening to the first few songs and dismissing it. Do not do that. Listen to the end- watch it live if you can because the context is sort of important. Not the context- but you need to know the characters so that you can let yourself feel. If you get to "the I love you song" and still don't get it... I don't know what else to tell you
spring awakening is my 7th pick. I love spring awakening but I fully realize that if I hadn't seen a production of it this year, it wouldn't be in the running. but I did, so it's here.
Phantom of the Opera is here because apparently Jesus Christ Superstar wasn't enough Lloyd Webber for me. I'm talking specifically about the original cast album with brightman and crawford. It's a beautiful album and playing it will always brighten (ha!) my day. Like,,, the clash is many things, but it's not beautiful. Sure, Dickinson might say beauty and truth are one- but the distinction is there because the clash is so true it's beautiful, while phantom is so beautiful it's true.
Hamilton is obligatory, because I owe Hamilton a lot. I hardly ever listen to it anymore but it belongs here.
I tag whoever wants to do this! Also I tag @bestoftimes-worstoflimes
@nico-di-angelfish did you know everything I would include?

Most Saturday mornings at Castle Munson are relatively quiet, say for the birds in the trees singing their songs. One morning is quite different. Eddie is startled awake to the booming sounds of an organ, drums, and then a choir. He rushes to the kitchen and sees that Chrissy is cooking a little breakfast for her and Eddie while the original London cast recording for Phantom of the Opera plays from the record player. He watches her lip sync into the wooden spoon as Christine begins her piece, smiling when she spots Eddie. Gesturing to him dramatically as Christine calls out to the Phantom. He then joins in as well, covering a part of his face with his hand as he takes on the titular role. They are so busy with their musical moment, they don’t realize that Wayne came in after his early morning walk.

Winx Musical Casting - The Specialists and Stella Edit
This is a part 2 of this post:
ITS TIME FOR THE BOIS LETS GO
First up, here's a slight edit for the Stella casting. I had Stephanie Styles as Stella. Recently, I had an idea of who would fit better.
Bonnie Miligan.
oh im sorry its TONY AWARD WINNER BONNIE MILLIGAN
Tumblr media
This. woman. is. a. POWERHOUSE? Not only does she have AMAZING VOCALS, but shes an amazing actress with spectacular comedic timing and is just an amazing performer. Her credits include Pamela in the Original Broadway Cast of Head Over Heels, and Debra in the Tony Award Winning Musical, Kimberly Akimbo. Pamela already gives Stella energy so I think she would steal the show as our favorite ray of chaotic sunshine.
Examples:
youtube
youtube
these 2 songs ARE JUST STELLA OMG
Now onto the boys...
Sky: James Tolbert
Tumblr media
This man is OOZING with charisma. He's mostly known for working with team Starkid as a choreographer for A Very Potter Sequel, Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday, and VHS Christmas Carol Live. His onstage credits include Snigglotts,/Vice President Bob Morris/Xander Lee/Ensemble in Black Friday, Blinky/Snigglotts/Ensemble in Nightmare Time, and The Ghost of Christmas Present in A VHS Christmas Carol Live. I think he could add way more charisma and character to the Wonder bread man that is Prince Sky of Eraklyon.
youtube
youtube
Brandon: Milo Manheim
Tumblr media
Now, I don't know if Milo has done any theatre BUT his credits do have him all the musical theatre skills (singing, dancing, acting, etc). He's mostly known for playing Zed Necrodopolis in the DCOM musical trilogy, Zombies. He also placed 2nd on Dancing With the Stars in 2018. From the videos I've seen of him, he seems to have the right kind of vibes for our favorite himbo squire.
youtube
Helia: Dean John-Wilson
Tumblr media
His credits include the title role in Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre in the West End, Lun Tha in the West End revival of The King and I, and, most recently, L in the English Premiere of Death Note the Musical in London. His voice is amazing and he really gets into his character's heads. The most recent example being L.
youtube
Timmy: Matt Doyle
Tumblr media
This man has played a vast amount of roles. His credits include Hanschen in Spring Awakening, Elder Price in the Book of Mormon, and Seymour in the Off-Broadway production of Company. But, he's mostly well known for playing Jaimie in the Tony winning revival of Company, WHICH HE WON A TONY FOR! I think he could definitely bring the nerdy and helpful energy to bring Timmy to life on stage.
youtube
Riven: Gus Halper
Tumblr media
What really sold me on him was his credit that that he's most well known for playing, Mischa Bachinsky in Ride the Cyclone. I feel like the character's two songs are both sides to Riven. He could bring the misunderstood bad boy energy while also getting vulnerable and emotional at moments.
youtube
youtube
Nabu: Michal Maliakel
Tumblr media
Currently, he's playing the lead role in Aladdin on Broadway. In the past, his credits include Cover Raoul in the International Tour of the Phantom of the Opera, George Nowack in She Loves Me, and Artie Green in the Kennedy Center production of Sunset Boulevard. I personally saw him as Aladdin and he was amazing. I feel like there are some similarities between the two characters so, I think he could bring the energy of the specialist that deserved better, Nabu.

hello, dear glassprism. Hope you’re doing well. I’m a new phan, and I’ve enjoyed reading your blog recently. It seems like you’ve been in the phandom for a long time! I’m really curious, how did you get into “the phantom of the opera”?
Oh hello! Welcome to the blog, I guess!
In a nutshell (because I've talked about this before, I just can't find the dang post because Tumblr's search function is awful): I grew up listening to the original London cast recording, which my parents bought after seeing the show in Los Angeles (with Robert Guillaume and a rare show for the Christine understudy). When I was twelve, my dad then took me to see the 2004 movie, which made very little impression on me until my senior year of high school, when I decided to rewatch it on a whim. I then dived straight into the Leroux novel, Kay's novel, fanfiction, the ALW musical, Love Never Dies, all of that, as well as getting into the fandom through the forums and then on Tumblr... and here we are today!

For #womenshistorymonth a look at some of the most important women in the history of The Phantom of the Opera.
Number 15. Claire Moore
Claire Moore was cast as the alternate Christine Daaé in the original cast of The Phantom of the Opera. She played three shows each week. When Sarah Brightman left the production after a year, Claire took on the role full-time.
In 1989 she left the role to play Ellen in the original London production of Miss Saigon.
A while later Claire returned to the role of Christine, most famously with Ethan Freeman.
Claire and Ethan were voted "favourite Christine and Phantom" by the Phantom Appreciation Society. This win led to a contract at Jay Records for a highlights album featuring them both.
She was due to return to in September 2013, this time to play Carlotta Guidicelli, but her run was cancelled due to injury.
Claire's early work includes appearing alongside Richard Harris in the 1982 London production of Camelot and playing the lead role of Audrey in the 1983–85 Comedy Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors.
From 2000 to 2001, Claire played Mrs Anna (as alternate for Elaine Paige) in the London Palladium production of The King and I. She has also starred as Fantine and Madame Thenardier in Les Misérables.
In the 2019 National Theatre production of Follies, she played former Follie girl Hattie Walker and sang one of the shows most popular songs, ‘Broadway Baby’.
