Since Greek Tumblr really seems to like the TSOA/PJO combos, I have a new headcanon-
The campers of Camp Halfblood are all aware of the collection of trinkets Chiron has decorated his office in the Big House with. Historic artifacts lie on shelves among old vinyls and books, each one telling it's own story. Although one thing that sticks out from the rest of the collection, all associated with academia throughout the centuries, is a rock.
Not a generic gray rock, but a pretty polished rose quartz.
Many campers tried to figure out why the rock was there. Some thought it had a magical purpose. Others thought the old centaur just really liked that rock in specific. Although none of the theories were anywhere close to actually what happened.
And now we go back to 2000 years prior, before the modern west we know and love. With western civilization once again relocating to a different part of the world, Chiron, the famed mentor was forced to relocate to train a new generation of heroes elsewhere. Before making the descent from Mount Pelion, he chipped off one of the small rose crystals from the wall with a chisel, to keep as a token of the past and a memory of two of his favorite pupils who once marveled at it through boy-hood and never returned home to be embraced by it's warmth.

Nico: Have you ever dipped your whole Oreo in milk except for the part where you're holding it, and it felt like how it would be Thetis dipping newborn Achilles into the river Styx leaving him invulnerable everywhere except for his heel?
Will:
Will: Yes

Thinking about the parallels between Solangelo and Patrochilles (specifically The Song of Achilles's version), because turns out it's so much more interesting than i first thought it'd be. Cause at first glance, we obviously think Will = Achilles (gold and sunshine aesthetic, extremely lovable, charismatic, optimistic, trusting, admired) and Nico = Patroclus (darker aesthetic, soft, sensitive, shy, abandoned and rejected backstory, very strong emotions). And it does fit pretty well, at least for their personalities and physical characteristics.
But thematically, it's the complete opposite, which is what makes it so interesting for me. Will is the one (like Patroclus) who chooses to heal instead of fighting, who desperatly wants to save EVERYONE, who needs to learn to take care of himself before taking care of anybody else. Meanwhile, Nico is the one (like Achilles) who is this insanely powerful, mythical fighter who could absolutly destroy anything or anyone in his path, who always only rely on instincts (even though they have been wrong many times before and he should really learn to listen to other people's inputs), who doesn't always think of the consequences his actions might bring, and who would and actually has gone berserk from despair over the death of a loved one.
Yes, Solangelo parallels Patrochilles, but it's not necessarily how you think, and that just opened up a whole bunch of new story possibilities in my mind...

Okay okay Will Solace is a gentle giant (I mean not really). He’s fucking huge. He’s fucking muscular and tall as hell and based on that description no one can believe he’s an Apollo kid. Okay. But his smile is all sweet and he has really blue eyes and oh. Now you get why he’s THE Apollo kid. Also he gotta have at least 5 guns on him all times of day.

remember percy said boys and girls arent allowed to be alone in the same cabin? it makes me cackle that rule exclusively applies to only boys & girls when chiron literally taught achilles & patroclus in early chb and apparently it still never crossed his mind that one thing homosexuals sure have is audacity
