I love the idea that Bruce takes the Batfam on hikes outside of Gotham, and puts up with the arguing over who goes in what car, packs everyone's favourite snacks, will race with the other car if enough passengers in his egg him on. Bruce generally stays ridicuously quiet while the kids jabber enough to alert everything living in the woods near them but will weigh in once the kids debate who's strong enough to wrestle a bear, chime in on unsolved hiker cases, build fires, and carry anyone that gets tired, all while sneaking awful pictures of them.

Plant of the Day
Saturday 14 September 2024
Following the flat clusters of white flowers on Viburnum opulus (guelder rose, dogberry, water elder, cramp bark, snowball tree, European cranberry bush) in early summer bunches of translucent bright red fruits are produced and often persist into winter. The berries are an important food source for birds, including bullfinch and mistle thrush and the flowers are especially attractive to hoverflies.

Today I found out there's a way to propagate fruit trees that is superior both to grafting and cutting, and I am both mad that I didn't know this before, and crazy excited about trying it out, it's almost like plant magic!
The name of it is Marcotting. It's a great way to save old fruit varieties that are dying! Or if you just have a tree you want a clone of.
So this is what you do. You pick a fruit tree that you want to clone, and you pick a healthy branch, take a knife, and peel a bit of the bark off, only about 1-2cm. Then you take a plastic bag, tape it so it's fastened under the cut, fill it with wet soil, and then tape it again, above the cut. What you did was make sure that the part of the peeled bark is completely surrounded by soil.
You leave that soil bag on the tree for 2 months.
And it will grow roots in there.
Once it grows roots, you can cut that branch off, and plant it. It will grow like a new tree, 100% the same genes, same species, 100% giving you the same fruit.
I'm so insanely excited to try this, most cuttings just die for me, and all trees from seeds either need to be grafted, or will be giving some wild produce, but this is a simple way to gain any fruit tree that you can get away with putting a little bag of soil on for a few months. The varieties that are usually easily propagated this way are citrus, fig, mulberry, and lychee. It takes 6 months for an apple tree to get roots like this!
Here's a link where you can read more about it, and a video where you can see it being done! Go forth and plant those fruit trees. Future generations will prosper from your effort.

I love (and by love I mean hate) spectating Facebook groups based on vintage finds such as collectibles or toys because it always goes like this:
Person A: Hello everyone. I bought this little ceramic cat planter at Goodwill today for $1 and want to know more about it. Where did it come from?
Person B: Hello! I actually know what this is! It can be used as a planter, but it's initially a caddy for on top of a dresser or nightstand. You put jewelry or coins in the opening and the tail can support watches or bracelets! These are very neat, great find!
Person A: No it's a planter.
Person B: It can certainly be used as a planter for a very small plant! But its original purpose is a jewelry caddy. They were popular in the 50s.
Person C: looks like a planter to me.
Person D: This ebay listing says it's a planter for a baby's nursery
Person E: I would use it as a planter
Person B: It can be used as one, but this person asked what it is, and this is the answer. Many ebay listings are mislabeled because they all copy each other
Person A: Thanks for everyone confirming they'd use it as a planter! I think I will sell it on ebay for $50 now.

Amaryllis belladonna
Information:
Kingdom: Plantae
Order: Asparagales
Family: Amaryllidaceae
Subfamily: Amaryllidoideae
Genus: Amaryllis
Species: A. belladonna
Amaryllis belladonna, the Jersey lily, belladonna-lily, naked-lady-lily, or March lily, is a plant species native to Cape Province in South Africa but widely cultivated as an ornamental. They appear as clusters of soft pink, 10cm funnel-shaped blooms sitting on top of long purplish-red and green stems, with up to twelve flowers blooming from just one stem.
Amaryllis belladonna are half hardy and can tolerate temperatures down to around -5C. It’s recommended to protect them from frost during harsh winters, and to start them off in sheltered conditions under cover at first.
Amaryllis belladonna requires very little attention and makes a truly unique display in the fall garden. Ridiculously easy to grow, all parts of this plant are poisonous, therefore it is diligently ignored by hungry deer, rabbits, and other critters.
The Jersey lily is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and parks, and it is also used in cut flower arrangements. It is known for its beauty and hardiness, as it can thrive in a wide range of soil types and growing conditions.
Tips to grow and care for A. belladonna:
A. belladonna should be planted with their necks at soil level, not submerged under the soil.
You’ll get your best results growing the bulbs in full sun, in moist, well-draining soil, although they will tolerate some light shade.
Plant them out about 10cm apart.
Wherever you’re planting them, make sure that the soil doesn’t get waterlogged.
If you do need to transplant them, do it in autumn after the plant has finished flowering and just as the leaves start emerging.
In a frost prone area, or areas that regularly hit below 2 degrees Celsius, plant them in front of a south facing wall, or in a pot that is placed in a sheltered area.
Once planted, it may take a year or so for the bulb to become properly established, so avoid disturbing the bulbs for a couple of seasons.
They prefer less water in summer, so in summer rainfall areas, ensure sufficient drainage.

"How often should I water this plant, and with how much water?"
Plant care websites: Avoid overwatering or underwatering this plant.
"Yeah, I got that, how much water?"
Website: It does not do well with too much water, but it also can dry out if it gets too little water.
"Please just tell me how to water my plant!"
Website: Give it some water occasionally
