He tastes of Madeira and pure nonsense, of love letters curdled into lumpy saliva and pushed down one’s throat in an incoherent babble, the ultimate flavour of forthcoming summer, of all the time in the world at thy squandering disposal, rushing into your mouth like a tart omen of excitement in a sloppy flick of his kiss. And you’re tugging at his nape, fists full of soft chestnut—a clumsy plea for a breather, a feverish, trochaic jerk: kiss him, choke on him, pull away.

Viktor obliges, and when he does, his heavy lids flutter with ossifying tears, his hollow cheeks the colour of faint, tipsy punch. He may claim that he’s perfectly sober, but, by the looks of it, Madeira must’ve long become his tenth bodily fluid.

You exchange lopsided smiles. The world around you stops moving. It’s just you, him and a dusty floor of the mildewed closet in the very heart of the city of progress, and you’re muffling the revel around you with the vigour of horny teenagers pawing at each other vice-like.

“You’re drunk.”

Your accusation spills against his chest, crumbling as your reddened nose pokes into the plexus of his neck and shoulder, his wool vest tickling at your senses, igniting a wet, fierce sneeze. Viktor responds with a damp coalescence of cough and chuckle. The wine has thickened his voice to a rasp.

“I’m positively intoxicated,” he corrects, aiming to pinch your hip, but his drunken brain must’ve mixed up the signals, locking his fingers in a gentle squeeze instead. You shudder nonetheless, face plastering against the swivel of his mole-speckled neck. It smells of sex and candy—a cologne-ish whiff of what’s to come. Or who’s to come, more like. If either of you manages to get your cotton limbs to complete that progression.

“You’re not doing this right, then,” you counter, throwing your numb calves astride his thighs: they fell asleep in the distorted tangle of your unwield bodies, and you tried to stretch them as far as the oubliette of the closet allowed.

Viktor takes note of your strained hiss. His hands abandon your hips. Stroke a trembling route down to under your knees and rub your numb skin live again. You murmur a tart ‘Thank you’.

“Is there some ultimate pact of proper inebriation that I’m not aware of?” He chuckles once again.

“We’ve just graduated, Viktor. We’re supposed to drink till we’re senseless.”

“Ah. You see, I prefer senselessness for other endeavours.”

“Like what?”

“Fornication.”

And he must’ve transmitted his wet laughs to you. Because when you lean backward, head thumping against the wall, the air starts shaking with thick, raspy spurts of agape mouths—a contagious prelude with more frothy, salivated kisses to follow. And more handfuls of skin, too. Necks, and hips, and shoulders. Whatever you (or he) could reach: no soft swivel in the way would be spared the penalty of sweet kneads. His involuntary groans bid no protest.

He smiles his best shaky smile when you finally part tongues. Watches you close your lips around the rim and shamelessly wishes that he were the bottle, more so when you avidly chug down the remnants of Madeira, spilling a glistening drop in the haze of your greed. But he doesn’t let it roll under your collar. His tongue strikes again and obscenely seizes the bittersweet fugitive on its way down your neck, licking up your sweat and crisp, smoky splendour. His taste buds, scabrous as a cat’s, tickle a rapt moan out of you. The bottle clicks to the floor and rolls out of your reach, escaping the pornographic tableau.

Viktor doubles down, looking up with a bashful grin. The vermillion heat from his cheeks creeps through your clothes. You can only imagine the shade of hot, fitful red hiding inside his underwear.

The world around you obligingly stops again, as if helping you find your words in the confines of tense silence. The back of your throat tingles.

“For someone who’s claiming to be so reluctant to get wasted, you sure are not above desperate measures,” you mutter, running your fingers over the wet, sticky trail on your neck.

“I’m not one to waste good liquor. Every drop must be lapped up.”

“How frugal.”

“Yes, indeed. And besides, slight intoxication is such a good catalyst for confidence. After all, one must feel suave enough to commit…” He bites his tongue, searching for a decent euphemism.

But, by his mistake, you’re equipped with just the ammo.

“Fornication?” You chide, bowing your head.

And Viktor goes for the kill, cupping the abandoned throb between your thighs.

hello!

just dipping in to say: thanks so, so much for this game. it's rare that i get to see chinese americans in dating sims, and even less often are they as charismatic and fleshed-out as Qiu. being able to interact with someone who acts like a real person, who looks the same as i do and isn't reduced to a cripplingly shy, bookish type, who can be as funny and as terse as the asians i know in real life, has been kind of crazy for me.

the amount of parallels my life has to the game is insane. nothing else i've played has captured what it felt like for me to grow up, suburban and queer and Chinese American, as well as this game's sliver of demo managed. the amount of projection i've done on the story is straight up unhealthy.

even in the limited amount i've played through, there's been so much that i've been surprised by. changing what i call my mom so something custom, being able to set my ethnicity, having it acknowledge Qiu if you put in "Chinese" -- when I saw that the expanded demo let you mention you knew what 秋 meant in the prologue, i punched the air in Real Life with my Real Hands. i know the MC has to be very General American in order to represent the player base fairly, but even these minor details are more than a lot of VNs give.

i just wanted to say that the choices you guys made, regarding the cultures of the MC and LIs, really hit home (with a sledgehammer) in a place that mattered (into the solar plexus.)

I'm really sorry for such a late reply! This was a lovely ask. Thank so much for the kind words and super cute sketch. It's wonderful seeing that Qiu felt like a relatable person. We definitely hoped they would make people happy, seeing that was the case really brightened my day.

Those last chapters of Project Hail Mary really are a sucker punch to the solar plexus like first you find out Grace wasn't first or second pick then he got chosen because the others died then you find out he didn't actually volunteer, he was sent there to die and it didn't matter how he felt about that but it's okay! He gets to go home now! He gets to live! Then he leaves his friend and it's sad but he's going home but oh no! Something's wrong but it's okay we found out what, but if it's wrong for Grace then it's wrong for Rocky too, Rocky is going to be stranded on space and the people of Erid will all die and now Grace has to make a choice about going home or signing up for a suicide mission - he actually gets a choice this time, not Stratt, not the other scientists or soliders. just him. and yet it's a no-brainer... he chooses his friend. It's the first real choice he has since the whole thing with astrophage kicked off and he was enrolled in this whole thing and yet, somehow, at the end of it... he's still just going through the motions.

Alex: Alex had been so used to seeing you in skirts, long sleeves, and hijab-covered modestly that it made him double-take when you said you'd like to join him on the beach. He had no idea what your hair looked like, and the idea of seeing you go from modest to a swimsuit made him blush. When he saw you approach him covered head to ankle he blinked slowly having no idea what you were wearing. “It's a burkini! You like it?” You asked posing quickly. You wore a vibrant burkini with a blue base adorned with white and brown leopard spots. The long-sleeved top provided full coverage with a modest neckline, and the matching leggings were a change from the skirts he was used to seeing, but you stood confident and elegant as you always had. “Yeah, it's adorable, it suits you well.”

Elliot: Sitting on the shore he looked out to the ocean hoping the crashing sounds of the waves would help him with his writer's block, maybe the waves would wash away the fog like they eroded the beach line. “What ya doing Elliot?” Hearing you behind him he looked up smiling seeing you holding a beach bag, wearing a light pink bikini set. The top features a halter neckline holding snugly to your upper body. The bottom consists of a skirted bikini with a side slit, adding a playful and feminine touch, It looked like one of Emily's crochet projects. “Just trying to work on my book, and you?” He asked leaning back onto his palms and relaxing at your arrival. “Taking time to myself looks like you need to do the same.” Elliot laughed not able to disagree with you at that observation.

Harvey: He was busy applying sunscreen and ensuring his sun hat was well-adjusted ready to enjoy a day off, he hadn't heard you sneaking up in the sand. “Hey, Harvey! Taking a day off?” He nearly fell out of his chair, crushing the brim of his hat a bit from gripping it tightly. “Oh hi Farmer, yes I-” His voice got caught in his throat as he turned to look at you, dressed in a light peach one-piece swimsuit adorned with bright and light orange flowers, complemented by small green leaves. The neckline plunges to the solar plexus and is accentuated with delicate ruffles. The thick straps holding your shoulders firm ensure the top doesn't slip more than desired. “Getting sunburned already Doc?” Hearing you teasing him made him realize how warm his cheeks felt.

Sam: Sam groaned watching Vincent play in the water, he loved his brother but wanted to go into town with Sebastian and Abigail, not babysit his brother. “This blows man…” he leaned his head over letting out a sigh. “I think the sun feels rather good.” Looking up he smiled hearing your familiar voice, his eyes looked over your swimsuit taking in the high-waisted bottoms and halter top it was a cute little vintage number, the white with bright yellow lemons and green leaves looked playful and cheerful. “Got stuck babysitting?” you teased, smirking softly already knowing the answer. “Yeah..” He said his voice trailing off, seeing your hand in front of his face he looked up at you. “Well let's go get in the water, mopey pants.” You said pulling him up and dragging him to join his little brother.

Sebastian: You had offered to teach him to surf if he taught you how to ride a motorcycle. “You want me to dress like a traffic cone?” Looking at the neon Orange wet suit you had given him, he looked back up and saw you wearing an identical one, its long sleeves hugged your arms, the bikini-style bottom contrasting against your skin. “Hey if you get swept out to sea you can be found ten times easier than wearing black.” You said informing him of how to be safe in the water. “Fine but you have to wear a safety vest next time we ride my bike.” He groaned turning to go and change into the neon wetsuit. “Hey! If it means I get saved faster Gladly!.” He chuckled hearing your quip as he shut himself in the changing room.

Shane: He leaned his head back smiling softly feeling the warm sun on his skin, he heard giggles coming from Jas. Peeking an eye open he smiled seeing you were leaning over talking to Jas whispering about something. He chuckled softly at your swimsuit, a wife pleaser for a shirt, your black bikini top showing slightly against the white, your black swim shorts mid-length, extending to just above the knee it wasn't flashy but it was you. Closing his eyes he smiled knowing he could take a nap with you being there. Feeling warm sand get poured on him and hearing Jas’s high-pitched giggles he opened his eyes seeing the two of you quickly trying to bury him in the sand.
