Stress Illness The Immune System &Its Effect On Human Health
Stress Illness The Immune System &Its Effect On Human Health
Hello my lovelies, I’ve been struggling with a bit of stress lately and spoke to Mr V about it and how he deals with it. He mainly tackles it head-on, keeping himself calm and logical. He thinks about what he says before saying it or the consequences of putting a plan into action. When things get too much he’ll go for a walk or he will tap away at the computer writing… I’ve also seen him do parts…

When I say I want pysch meds to be less stigmatized I don't just mean people should be allowed to talk about the ways meds helped them, or talk about how they used to have depression and then meds cured them. People need to be allowed to talk about the way medication has harmed them and hurt them, about going off of meds, about the way the system forces meds onto people and doesn't care about their well beings, about side effects that most neurotypical people would find horrifying, about not wanting to be on meds, about being on meds but not magically becoming normal. The neurodivergent/mentally ill experience should not be watered down to make people comfortable, and especially not to make people comfortable with the largely neurotypical run medical system that often victimizes us as much as it helps us.

The mentally stable Dimitri Fire emblem 3 hopes.
It surprises me that there's still ppl claiming so, but then I remember we're talking about 3h interpretations and I have to make peace with it.
But that doesn't stop me from venting a little bit in this little space I have lol. Actually, it dries me and makes me feel bad to bring this up because I will have to talk bad about Dedue, and I don't want to talk Bad about Dedue. He's a genuinely good boy. But "Human" nonetheless, which means Flaws. I like Felix too but he's become some sort of a clown that doesn't make me feel too bad. I like Felix tho, In a different way.
Mostly talking about these two because the take that "Dimitri has better support system" baffles me because, technically, these two are his support system in HopesVerse. The persons who Dimitri relays on and seek solace/advice/support. The rest doesn't really tackle any of his personal struggles (aside from the Mage!Mitri frustrated dream, but that's out of the bad equation in our 'mentally unwell' set of pixels, and Shez only has a glimpse). Contrary, to Houses verse where the whole blue lions cast knew about his shit, didn't know what to do, but didn't leave either.
I tackled this topic with other person on Twitter who was (or still is) on board with this take and the phrase they used was They contained him better, which of course I agree and remarked that was exactly the problem. Contain him is gonna be contra productive. I used a water dam analogy, where the structure of such dam is damaged, and the pressure of water keeps accumulating. Causing a foreseeable damage for the dam itself and the surroundings. You don't need to be a genius to understand it, you need experience or knowledge for mental ill topics tho.
I really don't want to extend so much on here because it's mostly just, rant format more than a proper analysis so I just want to point out these two things in their support conversations.
First, Dedue. Encourage him to keep on the vengeful path. Which we know was the final goal of Azure Moon and if you payed attention to 3 houses message. The whole Vengeful argument was something Bad, to keep it simple. Despite Dimitri actively looking for answers/guidance for something that, in a rational state he can see clearly like vengeance will consume his life (also Shez and Felix called out this behavior). Dedue answer only encourage him to keep on that path, because he would do that 💔. Presenting 2 oposite views is a great formula for confusion and disorientation. Now, Dedue's role is primary SUPPORT, not guidance nor orientation. He will support his shit no matter what, and we are quite aware of that if played Houses.
Second, Felix. Felix is a special case. He is smart but also an idiot lacks A LOT of soft skills to actually be of help. He's the only one who knows in this verse about Dimitri having a mental issue. In their A support to say the least, so they don't close or solve anything. What makes it more worrisome is the fact that Felix conceals the issue as a secret.
"So try to keep that whole "removing their heads" thing in check, yeah? We can just call it our little secret."
this extract here makes me feel so unwell 😭help
The whole burden falls over him and his lack of skills and wisdom on the matter will be too much for him later on. He at least, will be able to recognize that the problem is beyond of his capabilities and will look for help. Felix himself has his own issues and journey where he needs to learn. He's forced to get pass beyond some of his angry teen behavior but hasn't completely get over it.
There is a lot more to tackle, but that requires more work and time. What are the topics some of you think is important to cover around understanding the Hopes verse resolution? Dimitri's route? something? Do you think the route without Byleth is better? With that being said, I would like to delve deeper into character analysis, and the role each played for the Lords too. That also requires to talk about the Byleth and needs a whole analysis on their own, which requires time (which i don't have much lol) To end this vent, I would like to encourage people to do a little research for the terminology they're using like "Support System". Who makes it up and how it operates successfully. The fact that ppl saying "he has better support system" only because he didn't go feral on the run alone is not entirely valid. A reminder that people can feel alone with or without people around them. And containing the issue within doesn't solve any problem. At best, it's presented later. At worse, it gets worse.

Letchworth Village, situated in Rockland County, New York, operated as a psychiatric hospital from its opening in 1911 until its closure in 1996. Throughout its history, the facility garnered a notorious reputation for the mistreatment of its patients, spanning from infants to the elderly. Reports surfaced detailing instances of patients being left unclothed, neglected, and even subjected to acts of violence and sexual abuse.
Following its closure, Letchworth Village fell into disrepair, symbolizing the neglect and abandonment that marked its final years. Compounding this tragedy, scattered throughout the woodland surrounding the former hospital grounds are numerous unmarked gravestones. These numbered markers serve as silent memorials to those who died within the institution and were buried without individual recognition.
In an attempt to honor these forgotten souls, a bronze monument was eventually erected at the cemetery's entrance. Engraved with approximately 900 names, the monument stands as a collective memorial to those interred on the grounds. However, the names listed on the monument are not linked to specific burial plots, leaving uncertainty about the exact locations of individual graves. Many of those commemorated are identified only by generic labels such as "Baby Girl" or "Baby Boy," highlighting the anonymity and lack of dignity with which some patients were laid to rest.

How to be a good ally to someone experiencing psychosis:
Please do your best not to laugh at us. What's funny to you is likely traumatic and may bother us in the future. Every time I came out of total psychosis it was rough knowing that others found me amusing.
Try your best not to feed into our delusions. Stay neutral and as nonreactive as possible. Getting angry is not going to help anything whatsoever. It's like adding gasoline to a fire.
Encourage us to take our medication if you know for a fact we haven't and are actively aware of our medication regime.
Refrain from being saneist by using words like "crazy" "insane" or "psycho" to describe things that you dislike.
See that there's a person behind the symptoms. This person has loved ones, hopes, happiness, and pain. They are as complex as anyone.
Encourage us to continue seeing our doctor if we have one. It could mean life or death. Go to appointments with us and be actively involved in our recovery.
Remember that if you show kindness while we're unwell that we'll remember. With that being said, "kind" could mean as little as giving a smile.
Body language depicts a lot to us. Even if someone's completely unable to talk, they see you and feel your presence.
Please never make us feel like it's our fault.

I feel like using the DSM-5(-TR) (published by the american psychiatric association for 500 dollars per volume) instead of the ICD-11 (published by the world health organization for free) as the go-to source in system discourse sets up an unfair playing field in favour of sysmeds, on top of disadvantaging most non-american systems and any system without academic library access
the ICD correctly identifies that:
plurality can first appear at any age
does not remotely need to involve regular or even any switching (P-DID)
the traumagenic-endogenic distinction does not accurately represent the mechanics or needs of plural systems. clinical treatment should be provided based on distress, and disputes over the "validity" of certain systems can only hurt
combining the last two points - the differences between a p-did system, a spiritual system and a tulpa system break down when analysed as cognitive processes
that the association between childhood abuse or other extreme trauma and dissociative plurality does not account for all systems, even for all clinical systems
I'm not active in discourse, i want nothing less than to be so - but as someone who's simultaneously disenchanted with the field of psychopathology *and* wants to see it get better, i hope that people will look to more varied, more international, and more inclusive sources
Same! This is a really good point!
I think people need to be more conscious of how the American Psychiatric Association, even if it's taken small steps to be inclusive, is still the American Psychiatric Association.
It's still just made up of American doctors and consists of a very American perspective.
But humans exist around the globe, and an American perspective isn't enough.
I way too often see the World Health Organization's ICD-11 ignored in these discussions or at least treated as inferior resource, and I can't understand why other than ignorance.

I lost my fear of/contempt towards bugs because when I was (involuntarily) in the psych ward, there was a fly in the unit. For anyone who doesn't know, psych ward windows don't open. They're bolted shut, and this unit was on the 3rd floor. The doors are also always locked and unless staff are coming in/out (happens less often than you think).
That fly was trapped in there as much as I was. I felt my heart break a little looking at it. We were stuck together - I wasn't alone even when it came to nonhuman living beings. In that moment, all that weird stigma against bugs vanished in me. I hope that fly found its way out, and I hope one day people don't get imprisoned in these places anymore.

Can I have advice on how to advocate for myself?
I am one of the alters in a system, I think I front the most often after the host, and I have met a mental health professional I feel very unsure of.
I have developed some skills to stop and analyze situations before I act thanks to a DBT skill course, but I have currently only come to the "stop" and "notice I feel bad" stage in this analysis. Anything else feels fuzzy and difficult.
On one hand, he seems like he is genuinely interested in our general wellbeing.
On the other hand, in my opinion, he seems to be pushing towards integration without having us on board with that. I understand this is not necessarily bad, and that I am in a strong emotion right now, but it is setting off all of my alarm bells. I feel like he isn't listening. I feel like he doesn't understand. I feel like he is pushing us to talk about ourselves in a very specific way as to go towards integration. Some things that I can't put into words makes me feel like we are like a project to him, a problem to be solved, and that disagreeing would make him personally upset. I recognize logically that I could be wrong, and that my impulse to change care provider is just that, an impulse guided by a strong emotion.
Okay, therapy speak nuance over. Cancelling therapy forever. In self defence...
Basically, how do I figure out if this is a real threat or a perceived threat and how I should act in order to get to a place that is actually safe?
(I'm tagging this with different related tags in order to find help, I'm not claiming all these tags apply to me)

I genuinely believe the fact that so many popular Imogen/Laudna fics are no-powers AU is, if not the main cause, at least a factor in why so many people resist or even are hostile towards any interpretation of Imogen that isn't largely sweet and harmless. Like, write the fic you want, but Imogen in particular is someone so fundamentally shaped by her powers that to write a no powers AU is to write what is essentially a completely original character who happens to share her name.
I think it's made even more obviously a factor because many of those fics try to reconstruct aspects of Imogen's personality by giving her anxiety or agoraphobia (or both) but the problem is that those are purely mental illnesses, rather than something that both gives her powers and penalties (again, the X-Men problem). Some real-world mental illnesses cover the symptoms of Imogen's abilities, but none cover the abilities themselves. It's quite literally a removal of agency: they take away what she can (and frequently does) do with her powers, leaving only the negative effects on her behind while eliminating the negative effects she can have on others. No wonder there's this overwhelming push to woobify her from that corner; they've utterly defanged her and are now crying that other people who can still see her fangs (and even like them) are talking about them.
And the thing is, for all I can be negative about fanon, it is, ultimately, fine - so long one can either keep it separate in one's mind from canon or else remain in a particular fanon sandbox. But unfortunately people leave the sandbox, and when other people respond to the canon Imogen, who as of episode 81 (RIP CRStats) has voluntarily used Detect Thoughts/Open Mind 60 times and has openly stated her intent to use it specifically to know what her party members are doing in advance and theoretically prevent it, the fanfic crowd is utterly unable to react to this intelligently. The idea of Imogen they have is sweet girl with severe anxiety and a goth girlfriend. The problem is this construct exists only in their favorite fanfic writers' domestic fluff modern AU no powers setting. And frankly, I'm not interested in talking about that warped mirror version of her when I could have all the fascination, complexity, glory, and agency of the real thing.

A lot of people don’t know this because I don’t really talk about it, but I’m talking about it today!
I’ve been to three psychiatric hospitals in my life. Three. That’s quite a lot. I went from ages 12 to about 15 maybe younger, and was in for months at a time. People don’t realize how utterly terrifying and traumatizing psych wards are and it shows. If you even dare to say “psych wards aren’t that bad” then get the fuck out cause we had two different experiences.
It’s constant fighting, screaming, violence, sedation, med trials, seeing people getting restrained and getting restrained yourself. I’ve never personally been restrained or had more than a voluntary pill sedative, but still. Seeing those things, witnessing those things, is traumatizing. Seeing constant violence, being in constant fight or flight mode is not fun.
I would never go back, nor do I think I can ever go back due to my current support needs and the fact I need access to constant AAC which a lot of places deny.
I have severe psychiatric issues, and I think it was a good choice that I went when I did, however I will never be the same because of the experiences I went through while there. Yes, I had some good experiences, yes I had some bad experiences.
I’m tired of the constant romanization of psychiatric hospitals. I’m tired of the quirky “grippy sock vacation” shit because like, what the actual fuck? Do you know what psychiatric wards are like? Do you know how traumatizing they can be? Do you know that you can’t show an ounce of misbehavior or you will get in trouble. I couldn’t meltdown, I couldn’t shutdown, I couldn’t show anger, hurt, anything without getting in trouble! That sucks!
Please stop glamorizing it. Stop trying to make it silly and fun because it isn’t and you’re causing real harm. Instead, educate about psychiatric hospitals, tell the truth. Tell your experiences.
This post is not at all to deter people from getting help. If you need help then get help! If you think it’s the best option for you then go for it! Psych hospitals are great for getting stable on medication. That’s what they’re made for. To get you semi stable so they can do outpatient care or residential care.
I’ll speak more on this later but yeah. This was just my current thoughts.

How on earth are people calling Gypsy Rose Blanchard a "master manipulator" how do you get to a point where your brain is so full of rot you are comfortable in denying someone their victim status because you decided she has evil eyes or whatever

Ways to have productive appointments with a psychiatrist:
Have a list of things to discuss beforehand. These things can be good or bad. What's important is that they have to do with your mental health.
Be honest. 100%. Don't hold back. This isn't a time to hide anything whatsoever. The more a healthcare provider knows, the more they'll be capable of helping you.
If you struggle with self expression, bring a trusted friend or loved one who knows both you and your scenario.
Try your best to be your true self. This also means doing your best to unmask. Act naturally.
Take your time when it comes to answering questions. This isn't a race by any means.
Be willing to approach your recovery by at least trying what the doctor suggests first off. There is likely more than one way to approach everything.
I say this with caution but if your doctor seems judgemental, isn't listening to what you're saying, or bothers you in any way... you can possibly try another one. But keep in mind they may see something neither your loved one or you see.
Try your best to arrive sober. Having your mind as clear as can be will give the most accurate representation of yourself.
If you wind up getting taken to a psych ward or emergency room, don't fight it. Remaining calm will give you your best outcome.
If you relax with nicotine, smudging, or grounding techniques, try to do so before the appointment.
Take your time before the appointment to really think hard on what needs to improve.
Ensure that you are fed, rested, and adequately hydrated so your brain is functioning at full capacity.
Listen to soothing music while readying for the appointment.
Do your best not to say what you think the doctor wants you to say.
No information is too much to provide.
Don't spend too much time rehearsing every which way the talk could go. What happens will happen and what'll be will be.
If an emergency arises before your scheduled appointment please do not hesitate to reach out to an urgent care provider.
Remember that, in the end, your best advocate is you or someone who sees you very frequently.
