it’s Anansi’s spider-web, it’s the network of stories, it’s the invisible threads of TV broadcasting and the internet and patterns and hyperlinks connecting one fate to another, it’s Belinda and Mundy, it’s the red string on corkboard of a post-truth conspiracy theorist like Conrad, it’s lies-that-become-reality, it’s fairy circle string and celluloid film tape and a rope to stop a train and the Story Nexus and the Web of Time; and i’m not sure what it’s all leading up to, but there must be something to it

this may all sound like a bit of a reach to you. like i’m tracing a motif that’s not really there. engaging in wishful thinking (as if i live on Wish World, coming up in two weeks! interesting episode title, that.) but i’m not the only one — jamie cowan, DWEU author and one of the people who genuinely knows more about this show than the rest of the planet, agrees with me. and if you needed further confirmation…

Robin landed on the roof next to him and Bruce could already feel the headache building. They were looking down on a young blond man with pointed ears and a large halberd on his backriding on a white horse. The guy looked like he had come straight out of a fairytale. He knew that if this was a new rogue Damian would argue about keeping the horse. Actually he would probably want to keep the horse even if he wasn't a rogue.

Deciding the guy had gotten close enough they swooped down to confront him. The man, startled, stopped his horse and pulled the large halberd off his back. He held it in front of him, as if in warning. The man looked wary of them but not afraid. They stared at eachother for a moment before the man spoke in a language neither Batman not his Robin knew.

Link was having a wierd day. He had literally just saved Princess Zelda a week ago (and for the second time) when he encountered some kind of demon in black and white. The Master Sword glowed in the demons presence which was all Link needed to know before chasing after the being. The thing, looking like a teen in odd clothing that reminded him of links own rubber suit, bolted into a green portal it had created.

Not hesitating he had his horse leap into it. And now he was in a strange place with no sign of the demon. After getting attacked by a man yelling in a language he didn't recognize, he switched out his sword for a halberd for that extra reach on horseback and continued on his way, leaving the unconscious man on the road side behind him.

This place was odd. Parts of some walls would light up, showing images of people and places he didn't know along with a written language he didn't recognize. He came across many people who looked at him oddly...or at least he thought they were people. They looked like Hylians but most of them were taller than the average Hylian and to Links horror they had short rounded ears. How could they hear thier gods with such tiny ears?

He was scared, but he carried on anyway. Eventually he gets confronted by someone dressed as a monster and a child. They manage to settle thier...dispute?...without violence so that was nice. He pulled a few apples and swift carrots out of his tablet-to the curiosity of the duo- and hands them to the child. The kid caught on quickly and raced off to feed his horse her favorite snacks.

Link will have to figure out how to overcome this language barrier

Bruce however, has discovered this was not a man, but a teenager lost in a foreign world and is set on adopting him.

A recurrent theme with Ruby is how the show utilises misogynistic language in regards to her. This isn’t limited to Ruby of course, it’s because of her role as the evil demon Jezebel bitchwhore figure; Meg and Lilith and the other early seasons female demons are treated similarly but even by the show’s standard, the amount of times Ruby is insulted is ridiculous. Dean is the biggest example of this with Ruby even getting mad at him at one point, but it’s also the demons, and on occasion, the angels. It’s notable to point out how in contrast Sam doesn’t usually use that language with her because he’s on the fence about Ruby for most of s3-4. This is UNTIL an event happens where he rejects her and the follows trend, reassigning and reaffirming her role; in the case of 4x22, this acts like a final judgement of her character before she’s killed

A Gentle Touch

Staring blankly at the screen of his Laptop,Jay studied the layout of a warehouse his handlers sent. It was the next ring he was going to take down, but he hasn’t managed to find a way to infiltrate without causing any harm. Children where involved and he wanted to take the safest approach possible to break them out.

Sitting up,Jay scratched his side and clicked the next file, he frowned and instead checked the weather app on his phone.Sadly there was nothing but rain for the whole week.Pushing his chair back Jay went to the backyard to see the sky already starting to drizzle.

*I didn’t expect the weather to change this quick.*

It wasn’t a secret that rough weather had become a problem for him these past couple years, but he didn’t want to bother anyone. He was a soldier just like his team he knew everyone had their own aches and pains.But it’s the constant reminder from his handlers that kept he silent. They forced the rule that the mission must be completed and successfully before any action of self care.Right now the mission was neither of those things, so Jay kept quiet as the weather grew worse and the scars on his body began to itch and stiffen.

The days dragged on and he kept up his routine as normal as he could. He stayed by Rubys side just as promised. He went on walks with her with a umbrella in hand to keep them dry, it didn’t help with the pain in his joints or the burning sensation coursing through his side.He helped make dinner and participated in squad meetings. The nights were mixture sitting with Ruby until she dozed off and comforting her when she’s hit with a nightmare.Jay tried to keep stretching but his scars pulled from the slightest movements and had him constantly holding his breath. Focusing on his assignments got frustratedly harder, his signs grew shaky, his handwriting got sloppy and the d*mn rain just wouldn’t end.

On the third night,Jay had to leave and shadow the warehouse to gather more intel because his handlers grew impatient. Rain felt like needles against his now hyper sensitive skin and the cold made itself home in his joints. Every muscle strain, broken bone or sprain he received in his life had mercilessly reminded him of the damage it left behind. Clenching his jaw Jay soldier out the rest of his watch before slowly climbing on his motorcycle and riding back to the cabin as smooth as he could.

When Jay arrived he slowly let himself into the thankfully warm cabin. The living room was empty and it looked like everyone turned in for the night. Expect the cat. Mochi meowed from her place on the couch,behind Ruby who laid fast asleep. Locking the door behind him,Jay took of his helmet and heated up his power to dry his sodden clothes. He glanced at Ruby again and leaned over the couch to put a blanket over her.Sitting up he gave Mochi a light scratch on the head and left for his room.

The next morning he knew he couldn’t keep his secret forever,especially after he left in the middle of breakfast without explaining himself. He kept his head low while his eyes flickered between green and gold. Stress of losing control had creeped into his mind and Jay was nearly running up the stairs.

*Just need to get to my room…Just get there.*

Samual:”Jay, what’s wrong?”

Tensing,Jay froze exactly where he was and faced the captain.The blonde eyed him worriedly and approached him with a calm air,Jay didn’t even hear him walking behind him or the fact he was breathing fast. Tugging at his hoodie,Jay looked up Samual for help and the man swiftly took action to help get his nerves under control. When he regained his composure he apologized.

Samual:”It’s alright, you didn’t do anything wrong. But I do need to know what’s wrong,Jay.”

‘Hurts.’

Samual:”Are you injured?”

‘No….Rain. Everything Hurts.’

Seeing the look on his father figures face made him feel awful, he didn’t want to tell Samual the truth but he didn’t want to lie either. Jay could see the compression sleeve on Samuals arm, he was hurting too but he was human. Jay didn’t have that luxury to seek help, because he was beyond that, he shouldn’t have been so weak. Keeping his eyes on the floor he shakily signed…

‘Sorry. I’ll be ok, promise. Just need a little time. I’ll be better.’

Samaul:”Jay you have nothing to say sorry for. I meant to talk to you to see if you were okay with the sudden weather shift.That’s my mistake as a leader for not properly organizing my time,so I’m sorry.”

Wrapping his fingers around his hoodie string,Jay felt a hand gently land on his head. Samual gave him a lopsided smile and urged him to his room.

Samual:”Take a break for the remainder of this week. The rain should be cleared by then and it’ll give your body time to adjust back.”

Humming to prove he was listening,Jay stopped and held his hand over the captains shoulder.Gold sparks went into the joint and when Jay pulled his hand down,he let a few sparks fly over his head to show his pleasure of relieving the older man a few hours of shoulder pain.

Samual:”Thanks, but that’s not getting you out of your break any faster. Lay down, I’ll call Sophie to see if she has any more remedies to help.”

Whatever happened afterwards was a blur,Jay changed out of his work clothes and traded them in for some sweatpants and a loose fitting hoodie.Samual returned with a big mug of camomile tea and some painkillers.The squad came in to check on him in their own ways,Peyton gave him a fruit bowl since he didn’t eat much during breakfast,Casey gave him a book in case he got bored, Cameron…Well he called him a dumb@ss and threw a extra blanket on him.Jasmine, Alex and Yuko sat with him for a few minutes to help and show him what some new stretches he could do to help with muscle soreness.Once he was able to move around without overwhelming discomfort they left him to rest.

After that he was just curled up in bed waiting for the tea and painkillers to kick in. Until his door opened to reveal bright magenta eyes.

Ruby:”Can I come in?”

Jay gave a thumbs up,but he did notice the hushed tone of voice, she was nearly whispering. Ruby slowly pushed the door open and Mochi slinked behind her, she even closed the door super slow. The girl gave a shy glance and sat on the bed,Jay could tell she wanted to say something but looked to be building up courage.

Ruby:”Are you okay? Samual said you weren’t feeling well.”

*Well that explains the whispering.*

Reaching for his note book,Jay wrote out,”I’m ok.” He held it out for her to read, but she didn’t look convinced.Jay gave her a strained smile and moved to sit up straight,but his smile turned into a wince when the rain pelted harder on the roof as the electric scar on his side began to burn. Ruby looked toward the ceiling then back to him,Jay looked away from her eyes. Tapping his pencil against the paper he writes.

‘I’m ok really.I have old injuries and scars that act up sometimes when the weather changes too fast. Makes me tired and uncomfortable.’

Ruby:”Oh,can I try something?”

‘Try?’

Ruby:”Well…I feel responsible since I had you walking in the rain with me.I want to help….My grandma told me that if someone has a headache then a person can help by brushing the pain away with your hands, so maybe it can work for other pain too.”

Jay thought about it, he honestly didn’t see how this can help with his pain and he didn’t even have a headache, but the way she was looking at him Jay found himself nodding anyway. Ruby beamed and started moving around the room, Mochi had made herself comfortable at the foot of the bed and started squishing the comforter with her paws.Ruby turned on the tv that was in the corner of the room, Jay hadn’t turned on not once since they moved in. She settled on the bed near him and with a hint of red in her face she asked for his pillow which he handed over without much thought.

Ruby put the pillow on her lap and told him to lay down on her legs,he frowned at her and he speedily wrote.

‘You sure?’

Ruby:”Yes.”

‘…’

Ruby:”Don’t look at me like that! Come on we can be mature about this right? Just lay back.”

‘Your face look like a tomato.’

Ruby:”Jay!”

Jay smirked and gingerly layed down until his head touched the pillow.Ruby smiled down at him even though she still looked red.A hand pulled his hair tie off and following right behind was a soft touch. Light fingertips lightly massaged his scalp and comb through his hair.

Ruby:”If this isn’t helping let me know and I’ll stop ok?”

“Mhm…”

Nodding, Ruby brushed his bangs off his face and started rubbing his forehead with her thumbs.Jay felt his eyes drooping,he turned his head towards the tv, Ruby had it playing some animal documentary about pandas but Jay felt his focus phasing out.The whole moment reminded him of his mom.All those times she rubbed his head to put him to sleep when his powers kept him up at night.The same safe feeling caused him to stop tensing and just focus on the hands gently combing through his hair. Feeling the effects of the tea he drinked earlier,Jay yawned and turned on his side to help keep his eyes open, he wasn’t sure if it was rude or not to fall asleep on her. But after yawning at least three more times he heard,Ruby whisper above him.

Ruby:”You can take a quick nap if you like? I don’t mind and I get more time to braid your hair.”

She grinned at him and Jay shook his head in amusement. He pulled the blanket over his shoulder and watched Mochi curl up behind his legs as she purred against the fabric. With the sound of rain thudding against the window and the soothing touch Ruby left on his head,Jay let himself sink into her a touch.

TEAM RWBY IDEAS

some ideas i have for my rewritten version of RWBY MAIDENS Maidens can only control environments and the weather. Also they can change their surroundings, from a high tech hallway to a red maple forest (like an illusion). (so no sword making or whatever just purely environmental) - team rwby becoming the Maidens a. Ruby becomes the Spring maiden (can control flora and wind) b. Weiss becomes the Winter maiden (can create snow storms and ice powers) c. Blake becomes the Fall maiden (tornados and clouds/rain) d. Yang becomes the Summer maiden (heatwaves and thunderstorms) Maidens can used their combined powers to make combos, Fall and Winter making it hail or Fall and Summer making a dessert storm. YANG Technically she shouldve graduated at this point, however she chooses not to, after finding out that Oz invited Ruby (15) to train at Beacon Academy, she managed to convince Oz to let her redo her senior year at the academy to support Ruby. JAUNE the Jaune we know will be put in the bully team from the 1st vol, my version would be more of an androgynous-femme presenting guy BLAKE & RUBY they can make their own little book club :) BLAKE & WEISS I think Blake would stand up for Weiss (and the other way around), especially if Jacques would come to visit Beacon, after finding out that Weiss went to Beacon instead of Atlas Academy. Before Jacques would be able to hit Weiss, Blake would step in and put him in hsi place. BEACON, HAVEN, SHADE & ATLAS ACADEMY DRESS CODE Most strict in dress (1 being most strict to 4 least strict about it/only cares about results) 1. Atlas (has to wear assigned uniform, miss a tie or want to wear pants instead of a skirt? get expelled scrub (also the most discriminatory school)) 2. Shade 3. Haven 4. Beacon (''male student wears a skirt? ok and?'') Beacon Academy ''Dress Code'' Honestly they dont care if you bribe a fashion student or get a tailor to make a longer skirt or flared pants, as long that it has the Beacon Academy Pattern™️ and ''wearing'' the tie, anything goes

ADAM (vs YANG & BLAKE) Making him more obsessive and weird by wearing Blake's tail (which he cut of before she escaped) as a belt. Also making him more Bull than original, because to this day i still dont see what makes him a Faunus. Like the black colored horns are cute but those can be easily mistaken for colored hair. Fall of Beacon (Adam vs Yang & Blake Round 1) Same story but instead of Yang immediately being defeated after getting her arm cut off, she powers through and uses her firey semblance the stop the bleeding in her arm, while Blake keeps up the good fight. After the bleeding stops Yang steps back into the ring to give Adam a burn scar. After losing too much blood Yang caves in while tries to keep her on her feet. Adam also takes Yangs severed arm Comm Tower (Adam vs Yang & Blake Round 2) Adam teases Yang by throwing her severed arm at her, but shrugs it off and tells him he can keep it. QROW & RAVEN Instead of turning into normal looking Ravens/Crows, they turn into a Nevermore look alike. Originally a power given by Oz, now turned curse by Salem. Both Qrow and Raven now constantly have to fight for control with their Grimm halves. Qrow has partially given up, hence the drinking, so his hands look like bird claws and his body is covered in feathers. Raven keeps her distance to avoid hurting anyone. Unbeknownst to them Salem is using their eyes to spy on Oz. SALEM/White Fang im not sure of this idea but instead of the White Fang (which will be renamed to something else) being a equal rights group, they're followers of Salem, the False Goddess, who gives promises that by serving her, they can save their world/make their world better. And that the Grimm exist to ''get rid of the bad people/sinners'' However i think there is a sort of White Fang group but only in Atlas where the most hate crimes, slavery and discrimination happens. As SDC and other companies in Atlas use Faunus for entertainment (for example Bull fighting for Adam) or for slavery. Yes that would imply that Blake was once a follower of Salem's, but turned around after the train incident. TEAM STRQ this might be the worst idea but hear me out. Team STRQ was a polyamorous quad. (in this version Raven and Qrow are >NOT< related) After Summer's death (at assuming Salem's hand), there was a lot of trust issues after, considering neither Qrow nor Raven told Tai what actually happened, and they slowly drifted apart but they all stayed in touch or checked up on the kids and Tai, Qrow would visit more often, while Raven stayed away for their (R&Y) safety. Raven and Qrow keep butting heads cuz they blame eachother for Summer's death/not saving her, but deep down they still care for eachother. Both Ruby and Yang are their kids (its Remnant they can like make kids in a tube or something). Yang has Qrow's alcohol problems (they sometimes drink together) Ruby has or had Raven's selflessness well thats all the ideas i have, nothing solid, just seeing what sticks to the wall. Admittedly the STRQ one might be a bit out there, considering Qrow and Raven are well known as siblings, and yes its weird as fuck idea to have them being/or were together as a couple. But if you remove the context of them being siblings, and see them having arguments, they argue as if they're a divorced couple. Also Qrow is more of a dad than Tai, protecting the gang when they're going on a trip, when Ruby is 15-16 yrs old (in the actual show). And generally being there for the gang. Even before Vol 4 Tai didnt even visit once, but was able to send Zwei. Qrow stayed the whole time, hanging out with Ruby and Yang but i dont remember in vol 1-3 Ruby or Yang ever calling Tai, y'know their dad? But again these are all ideas, nothing solid, just me rambling about RWBY stuff, uh uhm.... are these good ideas? most likely not feedback and criticism is appreciated :) my team rwby redesign v
