meal ideas!
low energy ("do not ask me to do any prep work at all, so help me god")
mozzerella cheese wrapped in pepperoni ("pizza tacos"!)
hummus and pretzels or naan (putting the naan in the microwave for like 10 seconds...heavenly)
canned chili (with shredded cheese and sour cream if you have it! boom done!)
instant miso soup (warm and lovely! put tofu in it for protein!)
cheese and cured meat, olives, canned fish, crackers, dried fruit, or whatever easy "charcuterie" type items you like
alternate bites of apple and spoonfulls of peanut butter (mixing honey or chocolate chips to the peanut butter is my favorite)
a "deconstructed sandwich": bites of lunch meat, pickles, cheese, cherry tomato, etc (I love roast beef and white cheddar for this)
yogurt and granola or fruit
put frozen potstickers + frozen edamame in the steamer/rice cooker, chill elsewhere with a timer set, then boom
tortilla chips + canned refried beans + cherry tomatoes + cilantro + jarred salsa con queso (or warm shredded cheese on top of the chips in the microwave for 30 seconds)
bagel + cream cheese + lox
microwave scrambled eggs (add things like green onion, soy sauce, or anything else you like!)
cottage cheese and fruit (mixed together or just on the side)
bowl of shredded rotisserie chicken + buffalo sauce + a bit of mayo + green onion (use a kitchen scissors to cut them right in!)
medium energy ("I'll boil water but don't ask me to chop shit")
boiled eggs and fresh veggies (put a little salt on top of the eggs!)
buttered noodles (my go-to nausea meal, it has never failed me. ideas of things to add: frozen peas, imitation crab, roasted garlic)
baked potato with toppings (I like cheese, bacon, broccoli, green onion, and sour cream)
quesadilla (add some canned beans, cilantro, or avocado!)
pot roast (requires a lot of time but not a lot of actual work. I love it with peas!)
cuban sandwich (bread, swiss, pickle, mustard, ham... my favorite thing to panini-ify by far)
pan-fried tofu with scallion sauce (this sauce goes well with everything and tofu is no exception)
pancakes or waffles! (I love mine with jam)
ham, pickle, and cream cheese roll-ups
fried eggs (with toast and lots of butter...so comforting)
fruit smoothie (bananas, frozen strawberries, yogurt...or whatever!)
I hate salad but could write essays on this copycat olive garden salad (throw it in a bowl! chopping required if you use onion)
spaghetti (controversial maybe but angel hair > spaghetti noodles)
pasta salad (olives broccoli fresh mozerella... those little mini pepperonis... yeah)
stir-fried thai garlic shrimp (I like using the mini frozen salad shrimps, it's easy! use jarred minced garlic to avoid chopping!)
tuna mayo onigiri
slow cooker ribs
buffalo chicken wrap (or any number of other wrap options! shred pre-cooked rotisserie chicken to make it easier)
if your local grocery store sells pre-cooked gyro strips, that can turn into an easy wrap with store-bought pita & tzatziki with tomatoes and onions!
couscous and chickpeas
tortellini + pasta sauce + spinach
high energy ("I don't mind chopping some things up!")
stuffed shells with spinach
chicken and roasted garlic (oh my god.....one of my all time favorites)
beef tacos (I like mine with cilantro and onion, and when I'm feeling especially high energy I love a tomatillo salsa)
chicken alfredo
tom kha gai (a thai soup and my absolute favorite! you just need access to galangal)
lasagna! (freezes well and then boom! low energy meal for later)
pad thai! (not as hard as you'd think, as long as you have access to tamarind paste!)
potstickers! (this is a lovely group activity if you want to cook with housemates!)
rice and beans
bang bang shrimp (ogughfhgfuh I love it. you can also do bang bang tofu!)
minestrone soup (so many nice veggies!)
fried rice (put whatever you have on hand in there! broccoli, peas, carrot, and beef is my favorite combo)
broccoli cheddar soup
spring rolls and peanut sauce
skewers (such as beef, onion, zucchini, bell pepper... you don't need a grill, oven works!)
roasted turkey with garlic parmesean asparagus
pork chop with mashed potatoes
panang curry
chicken gnocchi soup (use store bought gnocchi or make your own if you have a high energy day!)
bibimbap (super customizable depending on what veggies you like best)
butter chicken
plus! things that have helped me meal plan:
whenever you think of a meal you'd like to make, take 3 seconds to google search it, take a screenshot of the image results, and put it in a "food ideas" folder. instant visual menu!
the concept of "meal prepping" makes me recoil but I've learned that it can simply mean preparing shredded chicken, boiled eggs, or some other simple protein that you can customize throughout the week. shredded chicken can turn into wraps, salads, pasta dishes, etc... you don't have to meal prep yourself into the same meal all week!
when I have difficulty working up an appetite, I'll scroll through my favorite restaurant menus! there might be some foods I can't make at home, but many times they're very simple to recreate because the ingredients are literally listed!

hey. don't cry. roast one head of garlic with olive oil until golden brown. let stand until cool enough to touch. squeeze bulbs into bowl, mix with butter to taste and fresh parsley, chopped. spread on two slices of toasted bread. fry one egg, allowing the yolk to smash a little and seasoning with salt and more parsley. sandwich between garlic-butter-toasts and eat. ok?

Battinson and Food
He’s vegetarian and I will hear none of your crap
Depression meals, so many depression meals
I already made a post of his greatest hits here but here's three more:
A whole tub of apple sauce
Instant grits mixed with a hot chocolate packet
And a bowl of croutons
Some meals have actually graduated from the “Depression Meal” category to “Whenever I Can Sneak It Out of the Kitchen” status (because Alfred is appalled every time)
Dick, with the invincible, titanium-lined stomach of a 9yo, doesn’t know why Bruce makes them, but he loves taking bites of Bruce’s weird concoctions.
His favorites so far are:
Cream cheese and jelly sandwich
Spoonfuls of peanut butter (with chocolate chips, that was his idea)
And frozen garlic bread
Diner Food is King. (This is New Jersey. What did you expect?) His go-to order is two eggs over easy, well-done rye toast, grits with syrup and butter, and a fruit cup with no melons from the 24-hour place two blocks east. Hasn’t changed since he was five. Never will.
Bruce can cook food that is edible. Edible.
Like if he tries to make Italian, he can successfully cook the pasta. He can make a basic sauce. He can even plate it.
The tomato sauce is crunchy in some places, yes, but it’s fine :) and it is edible
but Bruce has NEVER succeeded in a baking endeavor, and it positively devastates him every single time
“Baking is science! I love science! I’m great at science. So why didn’t the cake rise when I did everything on the recipe?!” “You need to make it with love-“ “That wasn’t on the ingredients list, Alfred!”
He can handle spice surprisingly well. It’s not like he could avoid it while training all over the world, so he ended up building a tolerance, but his eyes still go unbelievably red every time.
He really fucks with bagels (I mean, what self-respecting Gothamite doesn’t) and he has a very specific bagel order for every possible mood from the great place downtown
The workers at Bagel Kingdom know which moods correspond with which order, and they have a designated spreadsheet taped to the back of the counter so they can work accordingly.
They know he’s barely hanging in there when he gets a toasted blueberry bagel with no butter.
He’s having a good day when he gets a plain bagel sandwich with tomato, provolone, two fried eggs, and hot sauce. In that order. That’s the shit
When he’s stressed, he gets a pumpernickel bagel with strawberry cream cheese to cheer himself up.
The workers of Bagel Kingdom will NOT let you disrespect his bagel.
Bruce almost burnt the tower down when he tried to cook a toaster waffle in the microwave while running on 40 hours without sleep, and he just kept cooking it because it wasn’t crisping for some reason
Alfred needs to force him to eat all the time
(It is definitely because Bruce suffers from disordered eating.)
There was one period of time in which Bruce went days without food, and Alfred (lovingly) threatened to send him to in-patient if he didn’t eat
Bruce said that those gross, mushy, lukewarm blueberries were the only thing he’d tolerate when he was struggling, so blueberries became their indicator: if Bruce can’t stomach blueberries, he goes to in-patient.
He’s gone twice, and Bruce was very mad each time, but he still uses healing methods that he was taught in there so it couldn’t have been that bad.
(He’s also friends with some of the nurses now. He, Denise, and Kayleigh have a group chat.)
Dick once convinced him to test taste different kinds of olive oil to learn the difference between regular and extra virgin. It was absolutely disgusting, and he ended up puking an hour later. Alfred now puts child locks on the kitchen cabinets.
The first time Bruce ever makes a meal that doesn’t look horrid is when he spends two weeks practicing Romani dishes for Dick the month after he adopts him.
He has since perfected three different recipes:
Stuffed peppers
Goulash
Cabbage rolls
(Keep in mind Dick is not vegetarian like Bruce.)
He tried making almond cake like 80 times (which is more like a biscuit but still a baked good) but could never do it right so Alfred makes them instead.
At dinner time, Dick always eats off Bruce’s plate more than his own. Alfred has chastised him several times, but Bruce only encourages him more. He thinks it’s cute. And so does the general public when they attend dinner parties.
One of Bruce's favorite memories of his parents is when he had a bad dream in the middle of the night so Thomas and Martha drove him out to the nearest diner to have a chocolate milkshake at 3 am.
Now, after patrol, if Bruce saw something traumatic or something that reminded him of his parents’ death, he’ll go to that same 24-hour diner and sit for a bit with a chocolate milkshake.
He continues this tradition after Dick becomes Robin. (Even if it took months for Bruce to even consider the idea of letting Dick near harm’s way.)
No matter how hard he tries to keep Dick away from the gruesome stuff, he can’t stop everything. They get milkshakes a lot more than Bruce would like.
But eventually, it turns into a treat whenever Dick does well in school or needs a pick-me-up.
And when they add Jason to the mix, they introduce him to the tradition as well.
They know everything will be okay when they have chocolate milkshakes together.

[ID: A close-up of a baguette lined with sliced cucumber and topped with cauliflower coated in a deep red sauce, diced tomato, and a white sauce. End ID]
Sandwich with sesame-gochujang cauliflower and garlic-yoghurt sauce
Inspired by Vietnamese bánh mì thịt, this submarine sandwich pairs fresh vegetables with fried cauliflower coated in a spicy, tangy, savory, and sweet sauce. Toasted sesame oil and the fermented notes of gochujang add depth and complexity to the mildly nutty backdrop of the cauliflower, while the raw garlic in the yoghurt sauce brings the taste profile to a sharp head.
Also consider pairing the gochujang cauliflower with vegetables of your choice in a rice bowl or salad.
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Paypal | Venmo
Ingredients:
Serves 4.
For the dish:
4 bánh mì, or 2 freshly baked baguettes halved and cut open
300g cauliflower florets (1/2 a small head)
1/2 cucumber, sliced
2 inches carrot, julienned
1 small roma tomato, diced
Other toppings of choice
Drizzle toasted sesame oil
1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
For the batter:
2 Tbsp (15g) all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp (20g) potato starch
1 Tbsp (10g) egg replacer for baking (optional)
Water
For the gochujang sauce:
2 Tbsp gochujang
1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean red chili flakes)
1 Tbsp granulated sugar
1 Tbsp Korean soy sauce
2 tsp rice vinegar
2 cloves garlic, grated
1 green onion, sliced
Pinch salt
Pinch MSG (optional)
Several cracks ground black pepper
Water
For the yoghurt sauce:
1/4 cup non-dairy yoghurt
1 clove garlic, grated
1 tsp high-fructose corn syrup, or sugar
1/2 tsp rice vinegar
Pinch salt
Instructions:
1. Break cauliflower into smallish florets and wash. Prep vegetables.
2. Mix all gochujang sauce ingredients and use a blender or immersion blender to pulverise the green onion. Add a bit of water as necessary to achieve a slightly runny consistency. Set aside.
3. Mix all yoghurt sauce ingredients and whisk to combine. Set aside.
4. Heat a small pot with several inches of oil to 350 °F (175 °C). Mix all dry batter ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add just enough water to obtain a mixture the consistency of pancake batter. Do not overmix.
5. Coat cauliflower with batter and carefully drop one floret at a time into the oil. You may have to fry them in multiple batches. Fry until lightly golden brown and floating. Set aside onto a paper-towel-lined plate.
6. Increase the heat to bring the oil to 400 °F (200 °C). Fry cauliflower again for 30 seconds until deeply golden brown. Set aside.
If you aren't comfortable deep-frying, you may bake battered cauliflower at 400 °F (200 °C) for 30 minutes, turning over halfway through.
7. Heat a large skillet on medium and cook gochujang sauce, stirring often, until thickened. Add cauliflower and stir to coat. Drizzle in sesame oil and sesame seeds and stir again.
8. Serve immediately with bread, vegetables, and yoghurt sauce.

I spent a lot of last week not doing great, and when that happens I tend to a) not eat at all or b) eat whatever food is in my kitchen and not restock it or take inventory of what I need.
I finally managed yesterday to get out to the grocery store and pick up food, including sandwich rolls, beef, media crema for making dip, and some spectacular "Carolina Gold" BBQ chips from Trader Joe's. I also set out the cheese and pizza sauce from the freezer to thaw so that I could make pizzas.
Last night, after I got home from some errands, I was actually feeling like eating something delicious and intentional, so I thought, I could make pizza burgers!! and so I did. Pizza sauce (plain tomato sauce simmered with italian seasonings and a jar of pesto rosso) and mozzarella cheese, toasted on an open-face sandwich roll, with a pan-fried burger (ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, shallots, garlic, and some leftover sauteed mushroom) on top. Fold, devour with bbq chips and onion dip.
[ID: Two images; the first shows a hamburger on a bun covered in pizza sauce and melted cheese, open-face. The second, on the same plate, shows the burger now closed, a pile of golden ridged potato chips, and a small bowl with cream-colored onion dip in it.]

How Many Subway Sandwiches The Arcana M6 Could Eat + Their Subway Orders
AN: A shitpost because of my inactivity <33 But sorry I haven't been posting. I also didn't read over this at all after writing it so uhh good luck.
(Btw the sandwiches are like the ones cut in half)
Asra: He would DESTROY a ton of subway sandwiches if he needed to. I don't really have an explanation. I'd say he could eat maybe 12-13 subway sandwiches but with vomiting and intense illness involved. Usually gets either one of the newly released sandwiches or he gets whatever's on sale that day of the week. Also every sauce they have on offer, so his order takes a while.
Nadia: I don't think she would be able to eat many subway sandwiches, even if she really needed to for some reason. I'd say around 2 and a half. Toasted garlic bread with pastrami, various vegetables (esp cucumbers), and honey mustard.
Julian: Okay he probably wouldn't eat that many sandwiches. Maybe like. 4. YES I KNOW THAT'S A LOT OF SANDWICHES. However if he were to order normally he would probably only get a half one. He orders a rye with steak, cheese, and sauce. The unhealthy mf skips the veggies.
Muriel: A big guy, but he's probably not used to eating all that much in his day to day life. I think he would be able to get through 6-7 maximum. I think he would order something simple for himself like a teriyaki chicken sandwich with a ton of veggies.
Portia: I think she could get through a lot of sandwiches, but not the most sandwiches. If she absolutely had to I'd say like 7-8. She orders a garlic bread with turkey and a lotta veggies. Whether it's toasted or not depends on the mood.
Lucio: This is the most difficult one because he'd either eat a shit ton of sandwiches or barely any. There is no in between. Ultimately I decided that he would eat maybe 1 of them before going weak in the knees and then passing out. He orders a plain untoasted white bread meatball sub with no vegetables or cheese. Just bread, sauce, and meat (and a cookie).
THE FINAL RANKING:
6. Lucio, 1 sandwich
5. Nadia, 2.5 sandwiches
4. Julian, 3-4 sandwiches
3. Muriel, 6-7 sandwiches
2. Portia, 7-8 sandwiches
1. Asra, 12-13 sandwiches

hello dear Jes, I am all out of good meal ideas!! I’m always in awe of your drive to cook and the great-looking meals you create. Any good recs for yummy and relatively easy / quick recipes? thank u 🙏
hello!! yes here are some very easy, low effort low prep recipes i love. the bolded ones are the ones i find myself making most often when i am like wow i do NOT want to cook but if i must do so, i wish to make the easiest thing ever.
shakshuka (all recipes are basically the same! i make it with canned tomatoes to cut down on prep, add a sliced jalapeno to make it spicier, and top it with feta and cilantro. if you are not crazy about eggs my sister often makes it with chickpeas and no eggs!)
thai peanut noodles (you can make as-is but i often add roasted broccoli and air fryer tofu if i have time!)
ricotta pasta with roasted broccoli and chickpeas (i roast the broccoli rather than broiling it as i am afraid of broiling lol but it's very easy and delish)
creamy corn pasta (my beloved)
spaghetti with onion-"bacon", corn, and basil
roasted sweet potato tacos (roast sweet potatoes, warm black beans on the stove with spices, and make easy quick-pickled onions if i have time - then you can add avocado, sour cream, cilantro, and any other toppings you like!)
potato egg and cheese breakfast tacos (i roast or air-fry small-cubed potatoes, scramble eggs, melt cheese into the eggs, and top with the salsa of your choice!)
migas breakfast tacos
tortellini with pesto and roasted veggies
caprese toasts (toast bread of your choice, then add pesto, sliced mozzarella, sliced cherry tomatoes, basil if you have it, and balsamic glaze... my all-time fave easy/no-cook meal)
pesto pasta with frozen peas (another super easy one i make when i want to barely cook at all - you boil the frozen peas in the pasta pot for the last three minutes of the pasta's cook time. then add pesto, grated parmesan, a squeeze of lemon, and halved cherry tomatoes if you have them)
easy asparagus soup (thinly slice a leek and cut 1-2 bunches of asparagus into half inch pieces. melt 3 TBS of butter in your pot, then saute the leek plus 5-6 cloves of garlic for 8 min. add asparagus pieces and 4-6 cups of veggie stock, bring to a boil, salt and pepper, and simmer for 30 min. transfer it all to a blender and blend, then add 1/4th cup grated parmesan and the juice of half a lemon. serve with crusty croutons and sliced chives)
roasted sweet potato & figs dish (you can also make with dried dates if you can't find figs!)
easy chana masala
nectarine, arugula, and feta salad (best in the summer when it's nectarine season but delish all year round... you can also use peaches. i usually serve it on a bed of quinoa so it's more filling/more of a main dish. the basil dressing is to die for i could eat it with a spoon)
avocado & egg sandwich (you can make this on a bagel, english muffin, or bread... just toast your bread, mash avocado onto the bread & sprinkle with red pepper flakes, and then scramble or fry eggs to your liking and put on top)
