do you happen to know of any tumblrs that do what you do, but for other... types(?) of people? i'm struggling to find an active LGBT writing guide blog specifically at the moment but it'd be nice to have a masterlist of any blog of this variety, since tumblr's search is remissfully unhelpful..! tysm
Hi lovely asker!
So there used to be a whole lot of blogs that were labeled "Scriptx" blogs and of course others too. Good thing is a lot of them were archived! So while they're not open for new questions you can still use the search and use the information provided to other asks they answered. So I'm gonna tag the other active blogs or the ones that are just on hiatus and then I'm gonna link all the archived ones!

Also of the active blogs some don't have their ask box open and/or some are on small hiatus'. Please be respectful of that, pretty please, everyone puts in a lot of time and effort and yeah.

ScriptX Family Weekly Update
1/4/2017
Heyo! We’re back and better (hopefully) than ever. After a holiday, it’s nice to be able to get back into a bit of a rhythm. Anyways, on to the important things.
Announcements
We have a huge announcement this week!
@scriptmedic moderated the VERY FIRST scriptX family writing contest!
Tumblr media
The winners are:
@fourandahalfapple
@kathrynabbott
@pielover1967
Congratulations!
Also this week,
@scripteconomist is open to mod applications. Please message her if you are interested.
@scripteducator is looking for a co-mod with special education teaching experience. Please message her if you are interested.
@scriptsocialwork is still looking for a mod that has knowledge in the foster care system and has knowledge in adoption.
Featured Posts
19 Khajiits and Counting
The mild mad Greek goddess ( @pissed-off-persephone ) is back wondering how two different species could do the do and get results. But wait, what if we want the child to be more one parent than the other? @scriptgenetics answers this one pretty quick.
The Fish Say Moo
Fish are great! What with their swimming and their, uh, swimming and… swimming? Ok so maybe they aren’t the most fun pets, but hey you could always use them for food. But would it make sense to have fish the size of, say, sheep and keep them like cows? @scriptecology is here for this asker, with a bonus bit by @allthebellsinvenice .
The Deeper You Go, The Darker It Gets
So the deep/dark web: what is that? Creepypasta readers may be familiar with the idea, but you may not be know enough to write your own horror story filled with vomitous imagery. Well, @scripthacker has the McBasics ready for you to read and learn.
Characteristics of an Abused or Neglected Child
Writing many times looks at the darker side of humans. In consideration of the “show, don’t tell” rule, @scriptsocialwork has provided this list of characteristics that could be used in your story of the horrors of a dark home.
Decomposable Income
What makes something a good currency? Well, you probably wouldn’t want something subject to decay. @scripteconomist helps out this asker with a creative idea for currency, but maybe not practical. Who knows? Maybe it will work in the end.
An American Freshman in London
So obviously school is different when you’re in a different country, but an explanation of something basic like grade levels would be nice. Well say a “thank you” to @scriptbrit because Mod Tea has a chart here for you and a brief summary.
Invasion of the Land Snatchers
Long ago, the nations lived together in harmony. That all changed when that one nation attacked. Only @scripthistory, master of all the eras, could provide a reason for the asker. And when he was needed most, he was there with open ask box. Days passed and the question was answered. And though the blog has many questions left to answer, I believe Captain can save the errors of the scripts.
A Day in the Indoor Garden
She pulls the keys out of her purse and locks the door. It’s been a long day at the shop with everyone needing flowers for Valentine’s day. She sighs turning around as she walks to her car and thinks about the daily routine. It involves plenty of…. well @scriptflorist has that covered.
A Nuke at a Debate
Your character just moves into a house and go figure, it’s haunted. Well, he’s pretty sure, but he's not certain. How is he going to go about taking care of this spooky problem? @scriptwitchcraft has some advice that would be perfect for this.
A Book Here, A Book There, A Book Everywhere
And finally, you can set down your pen for a moment, and bask in the glory of a draft well done. The series has been selling well and now your last book is ready for publishing. You reminisce on the good times you’ve had in your fantasy world. That cave scene was epic, one of your proudest moments. Maybe, just maybe, you could somehow continue the story. But your characters are done, all their arcs completed. No what you need is new characters. And now, @scriptstructure has some advice for you on how you could do your new narrative.
How To Write More Memorable Doctors (Even If They Never Speak)
(Hey, hey, guess what. This post, right here? Yeah it appeared first on Patreon. Go check out Aunt Scripty’s Patreon and consider donating. See the future of the Script Medic.)
Billy Badbones? More like Broken bones after he jumped out that window. And now he’s in the hospital and he is BORED. He looks through the glass door and sees two nurses. Well, duh, he sees nurses, but who are these nurses? How can you make even a background character like a doctor or nurse be the character your readers remember? Bada bing, bada boom- @scriptmedic has a post for you!
Quotes
I’m trying this quote section out, see how it goes.
“I'm sorry, I was given sugar and a cat and left unsupervised to talk about cannibalism.” -Kayl ( @scriptlibrarian ) A summary of the chat
“On one hand, we have deep therapeutic discussions, and then it INEVITABLY turns to murder, cannibalism, or both.”- @scriptshrink Also describing the chat
"Tripping on your own insides is bad"-Aunt Scripty ( @scriptmedic ) Upon being asked whether someone could walk after being stabbed in the abdomen
“For a second I thought that said human sacrifice not human medicine and was about to offer help”-Ajk’in( @scriptmyth ) Realizing that she had misread something Dr. Ferox ( @scriptveterinarian ) has said
Ask Box Statuses
@scripthistory will not be answering at sks from January 5-14. The ask box will still be open.
New Family
We have two new blogs that have joined the family!
@scriptautistic run by Mods Cat and Aira. Click their names for their respective introduction posts.
@scriptspoonie is here to help you write people with illnesses that don't leave them much energy. The title is based off the concept of spoon theory which you can read about here. Learn about their mods here.
@scriptsoldier also has new mods. Please welcome LT Robin4 and PO1 Knight, both with Navy expertise. See the updated Mods page for more information.

advice for building a world that is roughly the same as our own but with magic, vampires and stuff?
Tex: Anthropology is a wonderful subject, precisely because the answer to this varies depending upon whom you ask - magic is believed in some manner and degree in most of the world (how often do you knock on wood, or perform a ritualized superstition for good luck?), and the belief in, for example, vampires is still strong in many parts of the world. Going by this, technically we already live in a world with “magic, vampires and stuff”, and it’s merely levels of interaction with the supernatural.
Both @scriptmyth and @scriptwitchcraft would be able to offer you more nuanced help, but if you’d like to come back with questions about how to structure a world with specific types of magic, mythological creatures, or superstitions, we’d be happy to help!
Feral: May I suggest starting with the multitude of ways this has been done by other authors? There are dozens of ways to integrate magic, vampires, and other mythological elements into a modern, otherwise unchanged setting.TV tropes will be very helpful to you in identifying some novels, tv shows, and movies that do it. Start with the Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance pages and allow yourself to spiral into the unknown by selecting the subtropes that speak to what intrigues you about the concept.

hey,,, about your witchy au's,,, some witches get offended when you reference most witches not being real in fanfiction,,, (like your line "hoping against hope that it’s an actual genuine witch’s shop, and not just some lavender haired girl who thinks she can see a person’s aura." i'm a witch and i'm not personally offended (i've seen it to much for it to faze me) but witches have to deal with that stereotype a lot, and it hurts a bit. i know you probably didn't mean to be mean (1/2)
(2/2) but it came across that way a little bit. i’m a huge fan of your blog, so i hope you don’t think i have bad intentions with this ask, because i promise i don’t, and if you ever need any advice on writing witches, you can hit me up any time, or @scriptwitchcraft is a blog about writing witches
Okay, so first of all, thanks for being a fan, though that sounds pretentious to say just out here like this. I’m addressing this first because I like to begin with like the easiest thing to say. Anyway.
I am also a person who practices magic! I don’t like to use the term witch, but I do regularly practice, and do rituals on every major holiday - my parents are Norse religiously and so am I (albeit a little more loosely). I use Nordic major holidays and pray to Norse gods. The dig at some lavender haired girl who thinks she can see a person’s aura was a very specific and targeted reference to a girl I used to know, and I am a very petty human being and thought I would just slip it in for me - I’m so sorry if it came across badly! This specific person that I was affiliated with conned good paying customers with false readings and things like that, so it’s not that I don’t believe in magic (I very much do), it’s that I have problems with magic users who take advantage of those who do not know as much as they could, trusting people.
So yeah, it wasn’t a dig at magic users as a whole, or even witches in particular, but one specific person that I didn’t realise would come off badly.
If you ever want to talk about incorporated magic writing, I’m down! I want to work on writing someone as accurately Norse, being as a lot of people don’t seem to get it. So, yeah.

Hey everyone BG here,
So, I have good news. Recently at a writer’s conference several opportunities opened up to me that mean meaningful advancement in my career as a spec-fic author and narrator. This is amazing and a little startling after so long of not going anywhere fast, but it does bring, in a way, bad news.
I’ll be leaving the ScriptFam. This is absolutely because of life changes and no longer having the time to keep up with either the blogs I was a part of, not because of bad interactions or problems. This is, ironically, a really good thing.
ScriptWitchcraft will remain up and running so don’t worry, your question will be answered. On that note Mod T will be opening up mod-recruitment  sometime in mid/late September.
Thank you, one and all for granting me the honor of answering your questions and doing my best to help you out. I hope you continue to ask question and remain curious about all the subjects the ScriptFam covers. I have never met so large a group of disparate people so strongly dedicated to pulling together toward a common goal.
If you want to become a part of the ScriptFam yourself please read here...
https://scriptmedic.tumblr.com/soyouwanna
Or potentially become a mod for a blog that’s already up and running don’t be afraid to approach them. The people behind the blogs are genuinely kind, and are nerds/geeks/fans just like you.
Thank you for everything,
Bruxa Guerreira

Food of the Aliens
I’m making an early dinner for @scriptwitchcraft and me - london broil, parmesan asparagus, baked potato slices, and biscuits.
It occurred to me how important food is to the people and cultures of our species, and how the food of non-Terrestrial species is often ignored in most scifi. Star Trek: TNG does pretty good with the Klingon culture (gagh is always best when served live), but not much else.
Does food provide the sense of warmth and home and comfort to these species like it can to ours, or do they see food as just “fuel” to be consumed when needed?
I do have a copy of this book, and it’s awesome. I did have to settle for the Human edition, however.

TIA, might sound rude a bit, sorry. A is crazy in love w/P. P dies & A uses their friends as sacrifice to bring her back. I'm having trouble w/execution and wondering if it's better as a subplot since the events are a catalyst for another story.
There’s a lot going on in this ask:
“crazy in love” is a little vague, is A actually in love, or is it obsession or posessiveness?
“A uses their friends as sacrifice to bring her back” that sounds like the actions of a serious villain -- and again I have to ask are these people A’s friends, or are they just people that A sees as a means to an end?
how does P deal with the whole situation? Was the death something that they knew was going to happen beforehand? Had they discussed all of this? Would P have wanted to be brought back? Would P have wanted to be brought back at such a cost?
What did the friends do to ‘deserve’ being used as human sacrifices?
What is going on in the world of your story that such an exchange can be made?
What is going to happen to P and A after all of this occurs?
Are there going to be consequences for P?
Are there going to be aftereffects for A?
I think what you mean is ‘should this be backstory?’, and if you feel that the bulk of the story that you want to tell is caused by these events, then yes, this would be backstory. But I think there’s enough here to be a story in itself, if that’s what you want to do with it.
If you’re struggling with getting all of this down, it might be helpful to go through and plot out what it is that drives all of these people. What are the friends doing, what are their goals? Their dreams? What did P want to do with her life before all of this happened? How does she feel about being brought back? What was A doing before this situation occurred? Why did A have the skills/ abilities to do this?
As well, there’s probably going to be a lot for you to think about in terms of what death/ the afterlife means in the world of your story, what did P experience having died? What effects could bringing her back have on the world?
I’d suggest taking a look over at @scriptshrink if you need to get a better handle on A’s behaviour, and you might look at @scriptwitchcraft or @scriptmyth to get a handle on the magical/ afterlife elements

How does one CREATE an official script blog? I haven’t noticed one for people who are trying to write witches/pagans/polytheists, and as a writer who IS one, I get a lot of questions about it in terms of writing. Plus I really look up to you all in terms of helping other writers (as myself, I have countlessly relied on all of the Scripty fam). Thanks so much!
So, first: thanks for the compliment! Hopefully @scriptmedic and the others see this and know you appreciate them this much <3Second - I can answer both halves of this, actually - with two links:
1.)  @scriptwitchcraft is an Official ScriptFam blog you may want to check out :)
2.) https://scriptmedic.tumblr.com/soyouwanna - Aunt Scripty’s official “So You Wanna Start [An Official] ScriptX Blog” page :) Should answer all of your questions in that regard - including the emotional labor you can expect if you ever did join or start a ScriptX blog. Hope this helps, Anon! :)

Hi, your blog has provided me with a lot of info, thank you ❤️ I was just wondering if you know about herbs that can heal people, to be specific, healing bad dreams? Or encouraging bad dreams? Thanks 😄
Hi Nonny,
we’re glad to hear that! I hope we can help you with future questions as well, unfortunately, this isn’t a topic we cover. Our primary area of expertise is floristry, which includes floral design, floral arrangements and of course the shops by themselves. We also cover gardening to an extent, plant care and plant propagation. And then there’s, of course, flower meanings. which is possibly the most popular topic on this blog.
Herbalism isn’t our expertise but if you were to ask us which herbs are used in helping to fall asleep, we could still make a list. The medicinal or spiritual use of herbs is a field of its own, just like gardening and floristry aren’t one and the same. Albeit they might cross in some aspects.
For help with writing your character trying to heal or cause bad dreams for your story, you can ask @scriptwitchcraft .

This is going to be very odd, but what flowers would you put in a spirit medium's bouquet for a ghost wedding (she's marrying a ghost)? Thank you for your help!
Hey there!
This sort of, kind of breaks reality here. Ghost weddings aren’t a regular thing, at least not in a literal sense, not that I am aware of. So technically you could pick any pretty wedding bouquet you like off of google and stick it in your characters hands. However, if you’ve come for a few meanings that would fit your character's type of wedding, I’m pretty sure we can find something that fits. In the end, the type of bouquet will also influence the kind of flowers your medium is going to pick.
amaranth - immortality
amaranth (globe) - immortality, unfading love, hope in misery, unchangeable
angelica - inspiration, magic
daphne - glory, immortality
roses are generally found in wedding bouquets, here’s a full list of meanings
Wouldn’t be part of her bouquet most likely but would fit the wedding:
beech - wedded love, prosperity
cherry blossom - spiritual beauty, but also impermanence, insincerity
fern - sincerity, fascination, magic, confidence, shelter
linden tree - conjugal love
linden (american) - matrimony
polyanthus (crimson) - the hearts mystery
You could reach out to @scriptwitchcraft about what might be important to your spirit medium from a witchcraft perspective and @scriptmyth regarding what things might be associated with ghosts etc from a mythic standpoint. Mod Den mentioned this ask to them and they were very excited about the concept.

Script Family Weekly Update
6/14/2017
Hey y’all and welcome back to the update. As the sun rolls around the earth, so more posts roll onto the blogs. Let’s check some out.
Announcements
@scriptbrit ‘s Scottish mod is answering questions now, so if you have questions about Scotland go ahead and send them in.
Featured Posts
Zombies of the Front Line
Sleep: everyone needs it. In the military though, it can be hard to find time. You find yourself so tired that anywhere and anything is a bed and a pillow. @scriptsoldier talks about some of his experience in the military with sleep.
Lose It All
A character who has plenty of money has likely put in effort to keep their money safe. However, there is always the chance that they could lose it all. What you as a writer may want to know is how to make sure they lose everything, and @scriptaccountant can help you with that.
Anthologies
Sometimes, novels are just too long to write, so you settle for something like a short story. But then you write a bunch of them and suddenly you have enough material for a full book but it’s not closely related enough to be a novel. Now what do you do? Well, you could put it together as an anthology and publish it. @scriptstructure has some advice on how to organize a potential anthology.
Scott O'McMurphy
As writers, one of the hardest things to do is come up with names for your characters that don’t sound completely unoriginal. That’s why this asker sent a question to Mod Haggis of @scriptbrit about Scottish surnames. Check it out and maybe find some inspiration for your next character.
Dry Bones
Sometimes it’s fun to have an animal companion for your character. If you like to write post-apocalyptic fiction, you may need to consider how much water they need and where they’re going to get it. Fortunately, @scriptveterinarian has a short list of some general ideas of how your typical companion can get water.
High Fantasy Witches
In high fantasy, witches and wizards are usually thought of as throwing fireballs and lightning bolts around. However, say you wanted to keep the setting but use a more modern approach to magic. What can you use techniques such as cursing, divination, and blessings for in that kind of setting? @scriptwitchcraft has a few ideas for us.
And that’s all that we have for this week. See you next time. Until then, this is your host signing off.
-Splat

Script Family Weekly Update
Hey there, y’all. Sorry about this. It’s going to be another short one this week. I’ve been doing a lot of work on college applications and such so again, sorry.
@scriptgerman has exams coming up soon so prepare for asks to be slower than usual.
@scriptpastor has asked me to mention this post right here. It’s a two parter, but you may find it interesting and hopefully useful.
@scriptspoonie and @scriptwitchcraft both have a mod that will be gone from 7/15-8/6 meaning asks may be slower.
That’s all for this week. See y’all next time. Until then this is your host, signing off.

In folklore, what can make a witch powerless? And how can witches free or protect themselves from those things? Plus, what can kill witches? To make it clear in which contest I need to use those informations: at one point my main character (who practices witchcraft) is imprisoned by other witches who have to prevent her from using her powers, but later she manages to free herself. Hi anon!
This may be a better question for @scriptmyth or @scripthistory! We deal with how witchcraft (and a little bit paganism, at this point) works in the real world in the modern era, as well as how to apply them as inspiration in fantasy. We’re not really for folklore or how people of history may have viewed those they suspected of being witches.
And a word to the wise in researching witchcraft-- there’s a lot of glorification of “The Burning Times,” largely to the point of making up historical events that didn’t really happen and vastly exaggerating what did happening.
