do you happen to know of any tumblrs that do what you do, but for other... types(?) of people? i'm struggling to find an active LGBT writing guide blog specifically at the moment but it'd be nice to have a masterlist of any blog of this variety, since tumblr's search is remissfully unhelpful..! tysm
Hi lovely asker!
So there used to be a whole lot of blogs that were labeled "Scriptx" blogs and of course others too. Good thing is a lot of them were archived! So while they're not open for new questions you can still use the search and use the information provided to other asks they answered. So I'm gonna tag the other active blogs or the ones that are just on hiatus and then I'm gonna link all the archived ones!

Also of the active blogs some don't have their ask box open and/or some are on small hiatus'. Please be respectful of that, pretty please, everyone puts in a lot of time and effort and yeah.

I noticed that Scripthistory's last post was from August. Do you have any news in regards to them? Thanks!
I donât at the moment, but when things are a little less crazy (Iâm in the midst of NaNoWriMo myself and like, 8k words behind on top of Thanksgiving being tomorrow, ugh) Iâm going to actually go through and double check activity levels on ALL the Script Fam, touch base with as many of them as I can, etc., to see where weâre at especially on the slower-paced updaters (which, hey, some people just have busy busy schedules IRL, you know?) so like unless @scripthistory or someone else who knows more directly responds to this/contacts me, it might be December until I have an update on that for sure?
But I will say August is only a couple months ago, so I probably wouldnât worry too much just yet. :)Â Â You have to keep in mind, most of the Script Family have jobs IRL (which take precedent because, you know, making a living) or are in college etc, and weâre in the middle of a semester (right smack between Midterms and Finals no less!) + NaNoWriMo + holidays especially in the USA where quite a few of our bloggers are from. Tis a busy time of year! So, you know...life happens sometimes. I havenât heard anything Big about Scripthistory in particular, but Iâll let you know when I know anything - it just might be a couple weeks is all.-Mod Vorpalgirl

In folklore, what can make a witch powerless? And how can witches free or protect themselves from those things? Plus, what can kill witches? To make it clear in which contest I need to use those informations: at one point my main character (who practices witchcraft) is imprisoned by other witches who have to prevent her from using her powers, but later she manages to free herself. And earlier in the story she managed to kill another powerful male witch. The story is set in XIX England (sort of)
Hi anon!
This may be a better question for @scriptmyth or @scripthistory! We deal with how witchcraft (and a little bit paganism, at this point) works in the real world in the modern era, as well as how to apply them as inspiration in fantasy. Weâre not really for folklore or how people of history may have viewed those they suspected of being witches.
And a word to the wise in researching witchcraft-- thereâs a lot of glorification of âThe Burning Times,â largely to the point of making up historical events that didnât really happen and vastly exaggerating what did happening.
This has been a Scriptwitchcraft PSA

I don't know whether this is more of a question for you or for @scripthistory - I'm writing a fantasy story based in a vaguely European-esque castle. The lord of the castle has a chaplain, who in the course of the story is going to be replaced. So I have a few questions: 1) where in the castle would the chaplain live? 2) Realistically, would the chaplain retire, or be replaced by someone else only when he died? 3) If he retires, where might he go? 4) Who could realistically replace him?
Well, since this is a fantasy story, you could really just make up the answers to all those questions, and as long as your logic was internally consistent I donât think anyone could contradict you. Â XD Â But Iâll give answers to your questions based on my understanding of how certain denominations (namely, Catholic and Anglican) work.
1) Â Does the castle have a chapel? Â Or is there a chapel on the grounds? Â Your chaplain or vicar would live near the chapel, in housing that might be called the vicarage (as it would be called in England). Â This might be a little cottage next to the chapel, or it might actually be attached to the chapel as in sharing a wall, or upstairs.
2)  Iâd say you can decide this based on the rules of your world and perhaps also on the temperament of your chaplain.  Bearing in mind that, as youâve already thought of in 3), your chaplain will be become homeless if he retires, he may decide not to retire and work until he keels over in the pulpit.  If heâs forced to retire or wishes to retire on his ownâŚ
3)  âŚhe might return to his hometown and throw himself upon the mercy of his family, or perhaps he can take up a teaching position at a local university or seminary, or he might go into a different line of work altogether.  The church might give him a small pension to live on as well.  Iâd say this is also well within your purview as author to just make up.
4)  Depending on how the religion in your universe works, your castle may actively recruit and hire a new chaplain using whatever method you desire (post help wanted ads in the village? and then they get to do job interviews!!); this is how your modern day âcongregationalistâ would do it.  Anglicans and Catholics just straight up appoint/assign a vicar, so your lordâor maybe the previous chaplain/vicar would do thisâwould just send word to the Church that they need a new vicar and the Church will send out a new (probably young, fresh out of seminary) vicar on the next horse or whatever.  XD
I hope that answered all your questions! Â And if you ask @scripthistory too, Iâll be interested to see what different perspective you get there! Â :)

I have a question. Would a pair of men, sharing a flat and raising a child be frowned upon in the 1870s? PS: one of the men gives the excuse that he's broke and can't move out. Would people get suspicious or no?
Since we do not have a LGBT history mod, Iâm going to throw this over to @scripthistory to answer!

Regarding the post on 'Enlisted Ranks: Army' I am wondering if it's the same rules throughout US military history or did the Army use a somewhat or very different system in each era of that war being fought? For example, did they use different terms/ranks in The Revolutionary War or The Civil War Era?
Iâm very sorry to report that I donât know as much as military history as Iâd like to! My specialty is typically restricted to modern military knowledge.Itâs important to remember that during the Revolutionary War (or "The War of American Independenceâ as some might know it) the American combatants werenât a proper military; they were a militia. Nevertheless when we were learning about Friedrich Wilhelm Baron von Steuben, history seems to imply that the militia already had a difference between officers and enlisted.Might @scripthistory know when the American militaryâs current structure was adopted?

So after following yoir blog for a while I came to ask a question myself. I've got a medieval-like setting and the main conflict is a war. Until now it was no problem because the story didn't evolve to the actual battles. But now I noticed that my knowledge about war is very limited. So do you know any websites to research things like army size or tactics? Or do you know something about it yourself? Thanks for helping all these confused writers :)
Sorry, what little I know about medieval warfare I learned in history class or Redwall books. Definitely do some online research yourself, and if you still have questions after that, contact @scripthistoryâ. Best wishes with your story.

ScriptX Family Weekly Update
1/4/2017
Heyo! Weâre back and better (hopefully) than ever. After a holiday, itâs nice to be able to get back into a bit of a rhythm. Anyways, on to the important things.
Announcements
We have a huge announcement this week!
@scriptmedic moderated the VERY FIRST scriptX family writing contest!
The winners are:
@fourandahalfapple
@kathrynabbott
@pielover1967
Congratulations!
Also this week,
@scripteconomist is open to mod applications. Please message her if you are interested.
@scripteducator is looking for a co-mod with special education teaching experience. Please message her if you are interested.
@scriptsocialwork is still looking for a mod that has knowledge in the foster care system and has knowledge in adoption.
Featured Posts
19 Khajiits and Counting
The mild mad Greek goddess ( @pissed-off-persephone ) is back wondering how two different species could do the do and get results. But wait, what if we want the child to be more one parent than the other? @scriptgenetics answers this one pretty quick.
The Fish Say Moo
Fish are great! What with their swimming and their, uh, swimming and⌠swimming? Ok so maybe they arenât the most fun pets, but hey you could always use them for food. But would it make sense to have fish the size of, say, sheep and keep them like cows? @scriptecology is here for this asker, with a bonus bit by @allthebellsinvenice .
The Deeper You Go, The Darker It Gets
So the deep/dark web: what is that? Creepypasta readers may be familiar with the idea, but you may not be know enough to write your own horror story filled with vomitous imagery. Well, @scripthacker has the McBasics ready for you to read and learn.
Characteristics of an Abused or Neglected Child
Writing many times looks at the darker side of humans. In consideration of the âshow, donât tellâ rule, @scriptsocialwork has provided this list of characteristics that could be used in your story of the horrors of a dark home.
Decomposable Income
What makes something a good currency? Well, you probably wouldnât want something subject to decay. @scripteconomist helps out this asker with a creative idea for currency, but maybe not practical. Who knows? Maybe it will work in the end.
An American Freshman in London
So obviously school is different when youâre in a different country, but an explanation of something basic like grade levels would be nice. Well say a âthank youâ to @scriptbrit because Mod Tea has a chart here for you and a brief summary.
Invasion of the Land Snatchers
Long ago, the nations lived together in harmony. That all changed when that one nation attacked. Only @scripthistory, master of all the eras, could provide a reason for the asker. And when he was needed most, he was there with open ask box. Days passed and the question was answered. And though the blog has many questions left to answer, I believe Captain can save the errors of the scripts.
A Day in the Indoor Garden
She pulls the keys out of her purse and locks the door. Itâs been a long day at the shop with everyone needing flowers for Valentineâs day. She sighs turning around as she walks to her car and thinks about the daily routine. It involves plenty ofâŚ. well @scriptflorist has that covered.
A Nuke at a Debate
Your character just moves into a house and go figure, itâs haunted. Well, heâs pretty sure, but he's not certain. How is he going to go about taking care of this spooky problem? @scriptwitchcraft has some advice that would be perfect for this.
A Book Here, A Book There, A Book Everywhere
And finally, you can set down your pen for a moment, and bask in the glory of a draft well done. The series has been selling well and now your last book is ready for publishing. You reminisce on the good times youâve had in your fantasy world. That cave scene was epic, one of your proudest moments. Maybe, just maybe, you could somehow continue the story. But your characters are done, all their arcs completed. No what you need is new characters. And now, @scriptstructure has some advice for you on how you could do your new narrative.
How To Write More Memorable Doctors (Even If They Never Speak)
(Hey, hey, guess what. This post, right here? Yeah it appeared first on Patreon. Go check out Aunt Scriptyâs Patreon and consider donating. See the future of the Script Medic.)
Billy Badbones? More like Broken bones after he jumped out that window. And now heâs in the hospital and he is BORED. He looks through the glass door and sees two nurses. Well, duh, he sees nurses, but who are these nurses? How can you make even a background character like a doctor or nurse be the character your readers remember? Bada bing, bada boom- @scriptmedic has a post for you!
Quotes
Iâm trying this quote section out, see how it goes.
âI'm sorry, I was given sugar and a cat and left unsupervised to talk about cannibalism.â -Kayl ( @scriptlibrarian ) A summary of the chat
âOn one hand, we have deep therapeutic discussions, and then it INEVITABLY turns to murder, cannibalism, or both.â- @scriptshrink Also describing the chat
"Tripping on your own insides is bad"-Aunt Scripty ( @scriptmedic ) Upon being asked whether someone could walk after being stabbed in the abdomen
âFor a second I thought that said human sacrifice not human medicine and was about to offer helpâ-Ajkâin( @scriptmyth ) Realizing that she had misread something Dr. Ferox ( @scriptveterinarian ) has said
Ask Box Statuses
@scripthistory will not be answering at sks from January 5-14. The ask box will still be open.
New Family
We have two new blogs that have joined the family!
@scriptautistic run by Mods Cat and Aira. Click their names for their respective introduction posts.
@scriptspoonie is here to help you write people with illnesses that don't leave them much energy. The title is based off the concept of spoon theory which you can read about here. Learn about their mods here.
@scriptsoldier also has new mods. Please welcome LT Robin4 and PO1 Knight, both with Navy expertise. See the updated Mods page for more information.
