She’s crying, because she knows she’s gonna die. I hate it. We went 12 episodes in, just to see my favorite have one moment where her full emotion and honesty, right before such a brutal execution. It makes me so sad every time.

there’s so much to be thinking about in terms of claire’s inability to SAY goodbye.

she says “be careful” and “come back” (fk, jwd) then owen says something quippy then she just… doesn’t say anything else. she leaves it there. in a deleted scene for jw, the same formula happens when she’s visiting before the raptor chase happens. claire, someone who always wants the last word always leaves it blank in these situations.

and when someone’s life is in imminent danger, she’s nearly silent. there are two major scenes we can look at: fallen kingdom’s diorama and the plane ejection.

both scenes have owen worrying himself into a aneurysm and both scenes have claire saying basically nothing. and it’s not out of an unrequited affection because we’re clearly meant to see the distress on her face. but without the visuals, you’d barely know she was there.

the scenes are also opposite parallels of each other, but in both moments, it’s owen doing the majority of the talking. he’s the one saying “breathe. breathe. look at me. don’t look there. don’t look at me. I’m not leaving you here” while she’s saying just “I’m fine. go”. he’s the one giving the “here’s how you eject. you have to do it. you’re her mom. i love you. you have to go” speech while she’s dead silent.

i think it’s fascinating that the closer she becomes to owen, the less she seems to be able to express these difficult emotions verbally. the few words vs complete silence. but we can visually SEE the development in the relationship based on how (fk) on the roof they stay in place vs (jwd) she doesn’t hesitate to throw herself at him. physical affection is her easiest language in this relationship which is showcased throughout the trilogy.

in jw, she makes no verbal indication she’s interested in him. she just keeps grabbing for him. in fk, she doesn’t make any concrete verbal indication she’s still into him (just that she doesn’t want him hurt). she just keeps grabbing for him and ends up cuddled halfway on him and that culminates in her initiating a kiss. in jwd, she still doesn’t say those verbal admissions of love unlike him who does it twice. but you can tell it’s a mutual affection purely because she’s still initiating most of their physical affection in the movie.

claire never says goodbye or I love you or I want you. she just does it and hopes he’ll get what she means
