It’s impossible to be human (sometimes);

React too much — you’re dramatic. Not enough — you’re apathetic. Advocate too much — an SJW. Don’t advocate enough or *correctly* — a bad leftist Speak too much or give advice — you’re lecturing. Say too little — you don’t care or pay attention enough.

Of course this angle of scrutiny most often happens to women, but it doesn’t discredit the same double standards and bs non binary folks, femmes, etc. go through. We're more alike than different.

Divisiveness hurts everybody.

Even the rare mensies who are genuinely trying their best to be decent people and allies.

People have this tendency to operate in binaries, even if they don’t know it. And for the last time, probably ever, any time I’m speaking on nuance — or being a little more open minded/less judgmental — doesn’t ever mean I’m suggesting centrism or fence sitting as the solution. I'm sick of your labels and micro-labels. It's impossible.

A lot of people will hate you for being right or thinking outside the lines. They will resent you for working solutions with them instead of enabling unhealthy behaviors. And rather than admitting their faults or owning up to thier decisions, they'll scapegoat you because it’s easier to blame you than change. Choose better. Be better. More curious and less judgy.

This constant deflecting, shifting accountability, and blaming each other for quite literally everything is poisoning us. It's poisoned my personal life and relationships enough. And I don't want to live like that anymore.

If someone is willing to have good faith dialogue, and not just "own the libs", of course I'll talk to them. Most people just want someone to listen. Listening ≠ Agreeing. I do think people can change. It’s whether or both their ego will allow them to commit to it. The one's that put up walls are none of my business. The "friends" that ice you out for speaking up or speaking out, aren't your friends.

Everything is connected. From our government to our communities to the food we consume to the internet to capitalism to all the ways we treat each other. Love is respect, remember.

This outdoor cat argument is pretty common and always short-circuits my brain, because I don't think any other discussion on the environment draws comparisons like that.

Imagine if I went around saying that it's fine if we removed regulations in the oil industry, because strip mining is worse.

Or that habitat loss is the main cause of the decline in endangered rhinos so we should focus on that instead of poaching.

Or that we shouldn't bother recycling, because the pacific garbage patch exists.

There are a lot of problems in any facet of environmentalism and our relationship to the environment but I feel like that's not a particularly good excuse to just... give up. It's just a strangely bleak look at the world.
