Looking for a stormy or colorful summer beach read? @priscellie and Ihad way too much fun creating some romance novel versions of Rhythm of War and Warbreaker. I made the illustrations and Priscillie made them look like actual books – beautifully ridiculous, curly typography, mock-up and all. I hope that there will be more :D
-------------------------------------------------------
Image description: (by Priscillie) Photomanipulation of two battered paperback pulp romance novels that look straight out of a thrift store bargain bin in the 1980s. The books are RHYTHM OF WAR and WARBREAKER by Sandra Branderson. RHYTHM OF WAR features an illustration of Navani and Raboniel experimenting with light, Raboniel looming behind Navani and leaning in, their faces almost touching. Raboniel streams voidlight from her image-left hand, which travels like lightning through Navani's tuning fork and into the sphere in Navani's gloved safehand. It's the primary source of light in the scene, and the background is nothing but murky darkness. Raboniel focuses intently, her red eyes alien and unknowable, as she focuses on her work. One of Navani's unkempt locks of hair just brushes the corner of Raboniel's mouth, and I'm not normal about it. Navani looks like she's gone three days without changing clothes and that she's slept in her hairstyle a similar number of nights. The collar of her havah is open, revealing her collarbones. Her expression is a mix of amazement, fear, and exhaustion, her mouth slightly open and her head tilted back slightly. Her face is lit from below by their experiment. The title and author's name are angled at a sharp diagonal, with strong capital letters and the occasional flourish. At the top is the tagline "In the Heart of War... Passion and Honor are Fused!" In one corner is some publication information, with a little logo of a seal and the words "A 'Sealed With a Kiss' Paperback," the fake ISBN 17S-631-1123-1210 (the last two sets of numbers being our birthdays), and prices in America and Canada. The other book is Warbreaker, also by Sandra Branderson. The illustration depicts Susebron and Siri in a ridiculously overblown, windswept Fabio-style cover, with a shirtless Susebron holding Siri so she's half sitting on his chest, one knee up with her thigh along his chest, her legs off to one side, and with her body twisted so she's facing him with her upper body, leaning down to him, a breath away from kissing him. She's wearing a teal dress with a Mesoamerican vibe that reveals her midriff and leaves her shoulders bare, but with a long train that blows off to the side. Her arms are painted in looping gold shapes. Her hair is blonde for most of its length, but it's beginning to change to a vivid red at the scalp. It's wrapped in teal ribbon to match her dress. Susebron has long, sleek black hair caught by the wind, chunky gold earrings and a slim gold cuff at his upper arm, and is wrapped in long white strips of awakened cloth that snake through the image in an energetic explosion of fabric. He gazes at her in handsome adoration and abandon, and she gazes back in love tempered by concern. The title has the same diagonal and italicized design with the same typeface and flourishes, but the title is jazzed up with shimmery, iridescent type. At the top is the tagling "She was forced to marry a god... Then she took his breath away!"

Last Game hair style fixes, in order of who needed it most.
I've never liked the canon hair styles in Last Game. They're either hideous, or just simply don't fit the characters/style of the main series. I get its a (mostly different) art department and meant to age the characters up, but most of the time, they simply just look off-model to me. I know I'm not the only one who's got issues with the hairstyles in this movie too, so I did my best to fix them up and give them styles that I personally think suite them. Originals below cut as well as my explanations! Important to note, these are my preferences/headcanons for them so take everything I'm about to say with a grain of salt.
**Akashi isn't here, because believe it or not, I actually think his hair looks the best out of everyone in LG.
Tumblr media
I wouldn't change it. I like to draw him with neater hair/his bangs pushed out of his face when I age him up, but for the summer after the Winter Cup - when LG takes place - the canon hair is exactly the sort of style I think he would/should have. I like the allegory that the rough chop is something he did when his mental health wasn't good, so now as his mental scars heal, it's growing back out. ❤️
Midorima
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A neater/shorter hairstyle does fit Mido's character/personality, but the LG hair simply just doesn't look like the same hair type we see in the main series. Mido's hair has got the slightest wave to it (which I tend to over-exaggerate whenever I draw him).
Tumblr media
With this in mind, I went and gave his hair some more body/volume by extending the sides. (You'll see a lack of volume/body is the key issue with the other LG hairs as well).
Murasakibara
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mura's hair in this movie looks so so flat and greasy. Now I didn't do the best job fixing it up, but this is basically how you'd go about doing it; just add more flowy strands. His hair is pretty pin-strait in canon, but there's lots of flowing strands, even when he's not moving much, which give it a clean-look.
Tumblr media
When it's all just one limp form, like the movie does, it appears unclean as opposed to just long and sleek.
Momoi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another victim of the lack of body/volume. The style they gave her is also simply bad, like she just took a pair of scissors and cut in a straight line. There isn't even really any style to it. Its kinda just laying there on her head, which is not what her hair usually looks like in the main series. There's always strands/some lift to it. Also Momoi has always had some sort of bangs/framing pieces in her face, so for her whole forehead to be out was just a tiny bit jarring.
Tumblr media
I think the style I came up with is a little more mature while still having personality and life to it. Plus, LG takes place in the summer, so a shorter hair style would be more comfortable in the heat.
Kise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kise I don't think I did a good job of fixing to my liking either. It was hard to edit it without making it look bad in general, because I really don't think this choppy sort of style suites him like at all, so it was too much to change. Now his hair is one of the better drawn ones in this movie for sure, but it feels more like a Kagami hairstyle than a Kise one to me. I just don't think his modeling agency would let him have such a choppy, hard-to-style haircut. I also think a more polished look fits his handsome, princely sort of appeal that makes him popular with girls.
Aomine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, now its time for me to be playful and silly with some out-there hair styles. Aomine (and Kagami's hair) in Last Game I don't mind. After Akashi, I would say Aomine looks the best. BUT. We have NEVER seen Aomine with long hair, even in flashbacks when he's a child.
Tumblr media
So for him to finally decide to grow out his hair - in the SUMMER HEAT - just feels like a weird move to me. Feels out of character. He strikes me as someone who likes his hair out of his face when he plays ball and just wants to roll out of bed and not worry about brushing/styling it or anything. The animators also aren't consistent in this movie and sometimes his hair looks particularly long in the front and back, which again, I don't think he'd like. This picture below and the ones above are from the same movie/take place within like a week of each other, yet look so different.
Tumblr media
He looks cute and it definitely gives him a more youthful look; which is a weird choice, because they want to age up everyone else but Aomine in this movie. So, I think a fade would really suite him (I don't think I drew it that well tho). Keeps his hair short and out of his face but also ages him up a little more with a mature style.
Kagami
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, Kagami's look here is pure indulgence. @knbposting said "Kagami with a mullet" and I haven't stopped thinking about it. Sue me. His LG hair isn't bad and makes sense for his character and the time of year. But its just sorta plain. Honestly, Kise's hair style in this movie would probably suite Kagami more. I always liked how in the main series, Kagami's hair is a little scruffy in the back so I really wanted to lean into that.
Tumblr media
Is a mullet suitable for the summer heat/something he'd like? Well, maybe not but I think it ages him up while also seeming like something he'd get at some point in his life. So here we are. I will end this with saying this is probably the longest he'd ever let his hair get.
Kuroko
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, we have Kuroko, whose hair I've barely changed. Now, the animators/artists do a really bad job of keeping his face on-model (eyes too beady, features too sharp) but that's a whole 'nother issue, and I managed to find a scene where they kept him on-model lol. I think a shorter, neat style is good for the summer and suites him, but a main feature of all the hair throughout the main series is the spikes/strands of hair on nearly every character - Kuroko especially - so I just added a tiny bit more here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's the end! If you read all the way to here, thanks for coming to my insane-person rant.

Hi Lumen, hope you’re doing well 🤍 I have a question, what are some essentials for a physical glow up? I love your advice so I’m curious on your thoughts
Hi flower,
In my personal experience these 3 things make the most difference for glowing up physically:
1. Lash extensions
Tumblr media
Lash extensions can make such a difference! They're a staple in my own look.
I love how they can give an instant "doll" or "princess" or "luxurious" vibe no matter what you're wearing, and considering it takes 1-2 hours to install, it's very time effective and practical.
It instantly elevates any outfit and you always look put together.
In my opinion the best way to use extensions is by going for a "natural but better" look, and using them to complement your face and eyes (important), this can level up your beauty and appearance x10 if done right. You can also go for higher volume, but I find that exagerating/going past 6D is too much and looks offputting to most people.
2. Nails
Tumblr media
Nails are also a game-changer, they make or break a "look" when you glance at a woman and she has a manicure that looks put together, it instantly elevates her look.
It doesn't have to be complicated, you can do them yourself regularly or go to a salon, you can stick to neutrals and reds and you'll always look classy! As for shape and length, short to medium is most elegant and pactical, personally I like almond (long) and square shapes (if short).
3. Hair
Tumblr media
The third factor that transforms your look is taking care of your hair. Whether your hair is straight, curly, wavy or otherwise, simply following the necessary treatment for it - deep conditioning, brushing it before leaving the house, and hairstyles that complement your face/style/hair type make a big difference, and don't cost a fortune. For instance, sleek straight hair always looks classy. Or a smooth ponytail or bun if you're in a rush. Or if you have big, curly hair you have more options and use the volume to play around for a beautiful look.
In conclusion, when your nails, hair and lashes are done, you immediately give off a more luxurious, feminine vibe (if you have the time and resources of course). Next I would add clear skin (a symbol of beauty, health and wealth as well), and exercise (fitness, dopamine, clear mind, confidence, overall health).
But I found the most effective results and difference in how I feel, and how the world perceives me, based on these three main aspects.
Hope this helps 🕊
-Lumen

More from joliebean, their Ultraviolet & Daytona dresses are wonderful for all sorts of patterned & neon looks
Hair
joliebean's Beatrix Hair is a fun cropped style, it works for all sorts of fem looks, but I especially love it combined with a classic powersuit
@goamazons' Gloria Hair* is equally classy, and even bigger
Now, it wouldn't be the 80s without curly (often permed) looks, so here's some, ranging in volume. Goamazons' Floris Hair*, simstrouble's Beatrice Hair, & @softerhaze's Rhiannon Hair are all long styles with cute curly bangs. simstrouble's Eddie Hair is similar, works for both frames, and rocks a shaggier mullet-style.
@candysims4-ccfinds' Bonnie Hair is a shorter curled look with plenty of volume
Kamiiri's got two hairstyles I *love* for this decade, the Simone Hair is a full, long, curly style, and the Celine Hair is shoulder length with beachy curls and just the right amount of volume.
Multiple-Decade
Sets
As hilarious as it is, ice-creamforbreakfasts' half of the My Wedding Trauma Set has some awesome pieces. The Kelly-Marie Hair works great for 80s looks, and the dresses involved are right out of the class of 1987's prom. It even has an Elvis-inspired jumpsuit. (Check out surley-sims' half for the matching sunglasses)
Clothing & Footwear
@melonsloth's Jolene Outfit is a wonderfully classic outwear piece
@casteru's Bodycon Wrap Dress is just that! It's simple and works great on 70s-80s ladies.
Jius-sims' Retro Collection has some great footwear as well, they're simple and classic enough for all sorts of decades looks
@hezzasims released some beautiful 50s-inspired pieces, though I think they work great in any decade!
Hair
daylifesims' Long Rose Petals hair is simple enough for any decade, though I particularly love it in the late 1970s & early 80s.
The same goes for simstrouble's Rhoda hair, it reminds me so much of my mom's when she was a teen in the 70s & 80s.

Styling your hair to frame your face.
Tumblr media
ⅰ. finding your face shape
Tumblr media
▸ Oval: Your face is slightly longer than it is wide, with a rounded jawline and forehead slightly wider than the jaw.
▸ Round: Your face appears equally wide and long, with a rounded jawline and hairline.
▸ Square: Your face has a similar width across the forehead, cheekbones, and jawline, with a strong, angular jaw.
▸ Rectangular (Oblong): Your face is longer than it is wide, with a squared jawline and more length than a square face.
▸ Heart: Your forehead is the widest part of your face, tapering down to a narrow, pointed chin.
▸ Diamond: Your cheekbones are the widest part, with a narrow forehead and jawline.
▸ Triangle (Pear): Your jawline is the widest part, with a narrower forehead.
Tumblr media
ⅰⅰ. finding your hairstyle
Tumblr media
▸ Oval Face Shape
Characteristics: Balanced proportions, slightly longer than wide, rounded jawline.
Hairstyles:
Long Waves: Soft waves add volume without lengthening the face too much.
Bob: A classic bob works well, particularly one that ends just below the chin.
Layered Cuts: Layers add movement and dimension, suitable for both long and short styles.
Side-Swept Bangs: Adds a bit of flair while maintaining the balance of your face.
▸ Round Face Shape
Characteristics: As wide as it is long, rounded jawline and hairline.
Hairstyles:
Long Layers: Helps to elongate the face.
Pixie Cut: A textured pixie cut can add height and lengthen the face.
Side Part: Creates the illusion of length and reduces the roundness.
Choppy Bob: Adds angles and structure, balancing the roundness.
▸ Square Face Shape
Characteristics: Strong, angular jawline, similar width across forehead, cheekbones, and jaw.
Hairstyles:
Soft Waves: Soft, tousled waves can soften angular features.
Layered Bob: Layers add movement and softness to the face.
Side-Swept Bangs: Help to soften the forehead and jawline.
Long and Sleek: A long, straight style can elongate the face and soften the angles.
▸ Rectangular (Oblong) Face Shape
Characteristics: Longer than wide, squared jawline.
Hairstyles:
Soft Curls or Waves: Adds width and volume to the sides of the face.
Chin-Length Bob: Shorter styles help to reduce the length of the face.
Curtain Bangs: Creates a horizontal line that can shorten the appearance of the face.
Side Parts: Adds width and dimension, balancing out the length.
▸ Heart Face Shape
Characteristics: Wide forehead, prominent cheekbones, narrow, pointed chin.
Hairstyles:
Chin-Length Bob: Balances the width of the forehead with the narrow chin.
Side-Swept Bangs: Reduces the width of the forehead and draws attention to the eyes.
Long Layers: Softens the overall look and adds volume around the jawline.
Pixie Cut with Side-Swept Bangs: Adds volume at the top while balancing the narrow chin.
▸ Diamond Face Shape
Characteristics: Wide cheekbones, narrow forehead, and jawline.
Hairstyles:
Chin-Length Bob: Adds width to the narrow jawline.
Layered Cuts: Layers around the chin and cheeks can soften the angles.
Side Parts: Creates width at the forehead.
Curly or Wavy Styles: Adds volume around the jaw and forehead, balancing the cheekbones.
▸ Triangle (Pear) Face Shape
Characteristics: Wide jawline, narrow forehead.
Hairstyles:
Volume at the Crown: Styles that add volume to the upper part of the head, like a layered pixie cut, balance the wider jawline.
Side-Swept Bangs: Adds width to the forehead.
Long Layers: Helps to balance the jawline by adding volume around the face.
Updos: Styles like high buns or top knots add volume to the upper part of the face.
XOXO

I don’t think this has been mentioned, but has anyone thought about the way Rex and his ‘tough’ aesthetic kind of contrasts with Apocalypseburg's ideas on what being tough look and act like?
Like if you compare the two, there is a big difference in the way the two look, and I guess act as well.
With the Apocalypseburgers, they mostly stick to a brown color palette, and kind of have a steampunk/gangster vibe to them? (I don't know how to describe it). They also don't seem to look as 'cleaned' up, more like trying to show off their supposed toughness by looking all roughed up and like they've been in a fight (tbh they probably were).
Rex also goes along with the darker aesthetic (Since that's basically the stereotype for toughness), but less of the exaggerated rough dirtiness the Apocalypseburgers have, and edging more onto the sleek and sci-fi side. The dark blue and bright green accents also contribute to it, making him seem much more cleaned up (and I guess futuristic?(ha)) compared to the Apocalypseburgers.
I guess the way Apocalypseburg do their hair is also really distinctive. It kinda has a punk rock feel to it? Mohawks, tied up, or just long and messy (I could be leaving some out but that's the general ~vibe~).
Not too sure how to describe Rex and his hairstyle, because I would assume it's something that (If we're talking real-world rules) he would have to grow out from his 'Emmet' hairstyle, and it's a lot more -I wanna say- fluffy?
Apocalyspseburgers also have-like- an excessive amount of accessories, with all the heavy metal shoulder pads, spikes, or metal accents to their clothes. It gets just a bit obnoxious at times like they're trying just a bit too hard to fit in (But it works anyway). And besides, that makes it hard to do things sometimes because of the overwhelming amount of just straight-up metal on them at all times.
Rex... see for him I like to think that he has an absurd amount of weapons on his person, but he hides them well so you don't really notice them unless you know where they are (It's like that Lego Batman scene where Batman just pulls out a whole ass bazooka when going through security check), and he just has the most random things that actually end up being really useful (Plot device, also... a lot like Emmet). So he doesn't have as many accessories as an Apocalypseburgian, but still has a few things here and there.
I guess in the end it's really just Rex wanting to develop that tough personality that he was pushed into, but in a way that still sets him apart from Apocalypseburg since he has so many bad memories and experiences in that place (Also he just straight up hates all of them).

Embracing My Natural Hair Journey
From Relaxers to Rediscovery
As a child, I remember being fascinated by how my friends' hair stayed long and straight while mine seemed to shrink up at the slightest hint of moisture. Growing up with natural African American hair meant dealing with shrinkage and the challenge of maintaining its natural texture. I longed for the sleek, manageable hair I saw in magazines and on TV, so I begged my mother to let me try a relaxer, often referred to as "creamy crack" in the community.
The allure of having straight hair was strong, and for years, I faithfully applied relaxers to tame my curls. However, as I got older, I began to notice that my hair wasn't thriving. It seemed stuck at shoulder length, brittle, and lacking the vitality I desired. That's when I made the decision, in my early thirties, to embark on the journey back to my natural roots through a "big chop." This transformative process involved cutting off all the processed, relaxed hair and embracing the natural growth from my roots.
Discovering the Rich History of Natural Black Hair
During my college years, while preparing a PowerPoint presentation on natural hair, I delved deep into its history and significance among Black women. I learned how natural hair was not only a symbol of identity and pride in ancient African civilizations but also a means of resistance during slavery. Enslaved individuals used hairstyles to communicate messages of defiance and solidarity, reclaiming their cultural heritage amidst oppression (Byrd & Tharps, 2001).
The Beauty and Importance of African American Hair
Today, I celebrate my natural hair as more than just a style choice—it's a reflection of resilience, strength, and cultural pride. African American hair is uniquely beautiful, defying gravity with its coils, curls, and kinks. It's versatile, allowing for a myriad of styles that showcase individuality and creativity.
Introducing London's Veil: A TLC Brand of Natural Haircare
Inspired by my personal journey and passion for natural hair care, I have decided to create my own TLC brand called London's Veil. Our natural haircare line is dedicated to nurturing and enhancing the beauty of natural hair with products that are as natural as possible. I like to say, "It's so natural, it's edible—at least the gel product is!"
Conclusion
Embracing my natural hair journey has been empowering and liberating. It's a journey of self-discovery, self-love, and embracing my authentic self. I encourage everyone, regardless of their hair texture or background, to embrace and celebrate their natural beauty. Let's continue to educate and uplift each other, honoring the rich history and beauty of African American hair.

junhui: very much the "clean" aesthetic, straight sleek hair, minimal piercings, minimal makeup, doesn't mind clothing
soonyoung: loves literally everything. But, especially loves bright coloured liner, big hairstyles, and bright fashion
minghao: definitely seems to like monochromatic fashion, and I feel like he would prefer short hair. likes bold makeup
chan: he likes a mix of clean and bold. put together, but also a little wild. prefers long hair, clean makeup and unique fashion

Public Service Announcement
I've had this happen a few times and it's a few times too many for me. So now I gotta say something about it.
If you plan on drawing my character Bonnie, please do not deviate from her preferred hairystle.
Tumblr media
For some reason... Others have changed her hairstyle to something more 'natural' or protective instead of her straigthened, sleek ponytail and it honestly comes off as disrespectful and ignorant.
Bonnie is a mixed black woman, and while her hair technically is naturally curly she chooses to wear it straight. I don't know why that confuses and upsets people, but it's a real hairstyle that black women actually wear, and it's beautiful. I'm not making this shit up.

Hairstyles are very personal when it comes to black people, and especially for black women. Just because it's a straightend style doesn't mean that any less work goes into it, nor does it make her any less black.
Also, a general rule for drawing someone elses character is that you shouldn't change things about them unless given permission. Just saying.
So yeah, just a FYI. Thanks! 💖
