hey!! college happens, and thus, this is my first fic I’ve posted in a long while. but here it is!! at long last, the second installment in what is going to be a roller coaster of a series. I’m excited to finally share this with you!!

Kanan and Hera step out from the Ghost’s ramp and into the cool morning air of Balayin. They’re dressed in civilian wear, Hera in a burnt orange turtleneck and high-waisted blue jeans (which Hera has never worn, but are quickly growing on her—although nothing will ever feel as right as her flight suit), along with a woven dark brown headscarf to match her boots and belt. Though Hera isn’t particularly into fashion, preferring to remain in her usual practical flight suit, she hadn’t minded picking out some casual outfits as much as she’d thought she would. The styles being radically different from that of Ryloth adds to the appeal, if she’s being honest. She’s especially attached to the leather aviator’s jacket she found almost new in a market, which is currently stowed in her backpack.

Okay, this week's Delicious in Dungeon was a ride, but I'm still over here deciding if Senshi deciding to 'forget' he saw little feet growing on the mushroom was more hilarious, or Laios-dreaming-he's-a-dog was. Sorry. 'Silver Wolf'. Who's evidently smol and fluffy. I am sad Chilchuck didn't get a Moment this episode - everyone else got one! Maybe next episode.

Also. Also. Can we talk about how Izutsumi had a dark magic curse on her, and given the appearance of the paper ghost that tried to kill her, placed on her by her previous crew? The crew that was condemning Marcille? Excuse me?

Mitchell Family Name series by PurpleArrowzandLeather. Jake is Charlie and Mav’s kid, but Mav only discovers this when Charlie contacts him because she decides to hand over full custody. Lots of domestic fluff and the ‘86 crew rallies around Mav. Absolutely adorable. 13k in four parts, G-T. WIP.

When You Wish Upon a Star by PurpleArrowzandLeather. Mav gets de-aged while Goose is away for the weekend, which prompts the ‘86 crew to adopt him pretty much immediately. Mentions of Maverick’s terrible childhood come up a lot. Ice in particular is very protective. 13k oneshot, T. Complete.

Beyond series by boasamishipper (@boasamishipper). Ghost!Goose needles Ice into keeping an eye on/taking care of Mav, with special guest Maverick’s-bad-coping-skills. Regards the MavCharlie relationship as at least a little toxic. Icemav, doubles as a get together fic. 45.6k in three parts, T-M. Complete.

Seeing a Trailer by daenabenjen42. Post TG86 with adrenaline crashes and PTSD for everybody! The ‘86 crew adopts Mav and takes care of each other. Also, people start wondering what, exactly, happened to Duke Mitchell. Has a companion piece for background drabbles. Fifteen chapters, 26.7k, G. WIP.

Sword and Shield Be Gone by PurpleArrowzandLeather. Some time after TG86, Mav gets jumped by sailors on leave. The ‘86 crew, who have adopted him, take exception to that. Also ft. survivor’s guilt, self-hatred, soft boys, and how viciously the grapevine can twist things. 2.9k oneshot, T. Complete.

To Be So Blind by PurpleArrowzandLeather. Ice and Slider decide that Mav needs someone to take care of him after Goose dies and you know what? They’re right and they should say it. (Mav, of course, disagrees, but they don’t listen to him). 3k oneshot, T. Complete.

Stood Alone, Standing Together by PurpleArrowzandLeather. Goose lives! But none of the medics see to Mav until Ice and Slider make them. Naturally, Ice, Slider, and Viper are Unhappy about this. 3.1k oneshot, T. Complete.

Watch His Six by Shearmouth.  Goose lives, but someone beats Mav within an inch of his life in the showers. Ft. Ice and Slider figuring out that Mav a) needs help and b) is, actually, a good person. Two chapters, 10k, T. Ongoing.

Haunted by the Ghost of You by TheRebelHunter. AU. What if both jets went down during Hop 31? The image of Mav holding the other three afloat is seared into my brain. Everyone lives tho! Even if the Navy as a whole hates Mav because of his last name. Hurt/comfort, with a delightful amount of angst. I’m ridiculously excited every time it updates. Fourteen chapters, 20.5k, E. WIP. Rating is likely for the subject matter rather than sex.

Peak Icemav

fire in the sky tonight by susiecarter. God I love this fic. It’s Perfect. They exchange dogtags!!!!! Mav is smol!!!!! Arranged marriage AU inspired by the Sacred Band of Thebes (it’s kind of a wedding night fic). 4.4k oneshot, E. Complete.

time to let go by AortaArgent (@aortaargent). Where do I start? The vibe of this one is *chef’s kiss*. Goodbye sex, i.e. set the night before the mission. Ice is alive, trans Mav, ���feelings with smut”, old married couple. They just love each other so much okay. Mixed terms used for a trans man’s genitals. 8.6k oneshot, E. Complete.

Easier Done Than Said series by COMPACFLT (@compacflt). I adore this one. Full on adore it. That being said, it’s emotionally rough, i.e. men not talking about their feelings and also the period-typical internalized homophobia and sexism. Look, honestly they are such idiots and terrible to themselves and each other, but it's so grounded and realistic and good. Occasionally being irritated at their emotional stunted-ness aside, this is one of the best ‘Icemav through the years’ fics out there. Go read it. You won’t regret it. (The second work is somewhat less emotionally stunted.) 131k in two (multi-chaptered) parts, M. Ongoing.

No Less Than Two Miracles by thecarlysutra (@icemankazansky). “You are Iceman Kazansky. You have been dead for less than three days.” Ice has a hand in Mav and Bradley surviving. Second person POV. seventy minutes by AortaArgent (@aortaargent). Post TG:M. Mav is self-destructive and more than a little broken in every sense of the term; I think it’s fair to call him traumatized. His approach to sex is very transactional, which throws a wrench in the process of him and Rooster getting together. (they do get together tho.) Angst, hurt/comfort, and fluff at the end. ~The Mew Crew~

Shade - Mewtwo. Identifies as they mainly but will also accept he or she. Severely claustrophobic when outside the sanctuary. Loves all foods except mustard and most bitter foods. Naked like a sphynx cat. Lets ONLY the humans they live with touch them. Had to be on a special diet for a month during treatment. Has the most even temper of the adults. Middle child

Ezzie - Mewtwo x form. Naked giant sphynx cat. Very clingy to her humans and lets only them touch her. Was extremely self conscious about how she looked and even her weight during her treatment but lots of TLC helped. Also extremely claustrophobic when outside the sanctuary. Hates eating bitter food and avoids most chocolate related foods and pretzels. Gets upset easier than shade.

Dotty - Mew. Can be very tempermental. Gets severe anxiety outside of the sanctuary. Loves all foods but sour and bitter. Wears pet shirts as a comfort thing (like a safety blanket). Prefers to watch what her humans are doing and possibly sneak a piece of food. Will attempt to play music on the record player owned by the witch. Smol nakey cat. Only lets her humans touch her

Opal - shadow Mewtwo. Big bundle of love. Allergic to most spicy foods. Loves sweets with an insane passion. Will eat some extremely weird food combos. Stone is an extra bone. Also mentally disabled but a happy camper; has a broken speech pattern. Gains two beloved mates by the time she turns 3 yrs old. Harmless to a fault and hella good at healing others. Enjoys the dark and being with others. A social butterfly. Loves to hug and be hugged.

Anais - fusion Mewtwo (umbreon). Fluffy boi. Hella quirky natured; definitely a weird one and proud. Enjoys all but sour foods (unless it is sweet & sour). Doesn't mind being touched if he sees who it is first (minus the humans he lives with). Loves to poke things to find out what they are. Hates the taste plain rice or noodles.

Angel, Amora, Lucky - infant Mewtwo triplets. Clingy to their mama and papa. Angel is a crybaby; blind little crybaby who always wants mama. Amora is a troublemaker; watch that exposed heart of yours little mister! Lucky is calm; ninja baby, sneaks off to hide and nap often. All three mainly love milk and berry puree right now; will gain a shaggy like appetite later. Basically the Aristocat triplets.

Koda -shiny infant Mewtwo. Deaf bab is very loud. Loves to explore. Docile but curious by nature. Tries to follow her family everywhere. Favorite spots are with mama or with 'grandma'. Can't actually speak very well when she's older; uses sign language. Very vocal.

~Mates and adopted children~

Mundi -Primarina. Total drag queen and sassy to boot. Adores his family with a fiery passion. Makes sure his mate and babies are healthy and happy daily. Will slap a punk if they hate on his family. Can come over as very proud. (Mated to Shade)

Quincy - giant variant Lopunny. Has vitiligo and a crooked foot. Also a drag queen and very sassy. Will mega evolve to beat the snot out of haters. Adores his family as well and does his best to keep them healthy and happy. Grows his fur out to make blankets for his family. (Mated to Ezzie)

Saskia -Keldeo. Naughty water horse. Paralyzed back legs. Loves spicy food like no other. Now has a new horn and is stronger. Very loving to family; still a lil shit when he wants to be. Was the first one to realize that Opal had ghost abilities.

Rei -Gabite. Adopted by Quincy and Ezzie. Loves her family to bits. MUST DIG! Will chomp on bones and rocks for fun and relaxing. Loves to mess with Saskia because she can. Loves wearing her bandana and will get angry if someone tries to take it (unless it needs to be washed, then she's fine). Has a strong love for being nicknamed "land shark".

Shiloh -Lucario. Abused by bad humans; breeding fodder. Found by Kaden and soon loved on by Dotty. Had to learn to speak telepathically. Gets to bedazzle herself with spiky bracelets and loves it. Tried to learn how to cook like her human and failed miserably. Loves her mate and son with all her heart.

Mysty -Zoroark variant (Hisui). Opal's future mate along with Kikz. Cautious by nature and very observant. Loves Djamila dearly and is very proud to be her Pokémon. Always very worried she scares others but is happy when she doesn't. Can become very protective very quickly. Does NOT like overly sweet or overly spicy food. Tall and light, extremely agile. Has a nasty habit of taking cheese sticks from the fridge at 3am.

Kikz -Cinderace. Opal's future mate along with Mysty. Very active; has to move around. Adores playing with his soccer ball toy. Mildly disabled due to missing an arm. Loves spicy food and keeps it away from Opal. Adores his human, Kaijika, and has helped him. Can and will sneak off any apples he sees.

~The Nanny~

Kyuu -Mimikyu. Was taken in by the witch after being found with a ripped up costume. Got a new costume and takes very good care of it. Loves sweets to bits. Very loving and gentle to all babies. Learned to hum so he could help babies sleep. Helped Opal learn to control her ghost abilities. Basically the brother figure of the witch's team; adores them to pieces. Adopted a traumatized Kadabra as his baby brother. A very loving ghost fairy.

-humans-

Witch Sephi -basically the family leader. Loving mama, strong woman. Disabled and proud of it. Takes no garbage from anyone. Strong in mind and spirit but very weak in body. Uses a cane mainly but will use a wheelchair if need be. Always looks very tired.

Professor Scott - second in command of the family and a very loving dad. Strong yet chubby. Loves to help Pokémon and humans alike. Will throw hands if his family is insulted. Very family oriented. Bit of a spazz and proud of it. Has been bitten by the Mew Crew adults at least once.

Kaden -"bi rockstar". Oldest child. Abuse survivor and healing thanks to lots of love. Enjoys time with family to bits (was an orphan). Can be hot-headed but very loyal. Can play bass and electric guitar. Wants to be a rockstar and mechanic as an adult. Eagerly learned sign language to talk to her little brother. Has a girlfriend from Galar.

Kajika -"deaf boy". Very loving and hyper (has ADHD). LOVES to take pictures of Pokémon. Very vocal. Wears his hair in braids as a sign of respect to his culture. Wants to be a fashion designer as an adult. Currently teaching Koda easy signs. Loves his family to pieces. Nicknamed Kai (full name is pronounced Kah-jee-kah)

Djamila -"shy girl". Very socially awkward. Has autism and proud of it (Dad Scott has it too). Loves her family and Pokémon. Will have a meltdown if away from family for more than 3 minutes. Very smol (technically a dwarf in height). Wears traditional clothing of her culture out of respect. Wants to own a huge floral shop as an adult. Hates loud noises that aren't familiar to her.

Grimhilda, the ghost typer trainer from Kalos!

I've posted very little about her, unless you read some of my fics I don't bring her up that much.

More lore and drawings of her under the cut!

Her name is Grimhilda, originally from Alola and had been good childhood friends with Plumeria. Unfortunely Grimhilda had to move to Kalos because of her family and lost contact with Plumeria.

When things in Kalos didn't pan out (Grimhilda doesn't get along with her family because of her love of ghost types), she looks to moving back to Alola. She finds Plumeria and they reconnect, to her shock she found out her best friend was the former admin of the now disbanded team skull.

Plumeria insists that Grimhilda moves in with what's left of the old team skull crew until she gets back on her feet.

But Plumeria doesn't know how to drive, so she makes Guzma go pick her and her luggage up. Guzma doesn't know much about Grimhilda so he wasn't sure what to expect. He expected somebody just like Plumeria, strict, a little mean, but overall fun still.

The minute he meets her Guzma is very much surprised.

Grimhilda is a very shy/timid person. Whenever she meets someone new or is just nervous she talks and talks without realizing and hides behind her hair. Guzma sees her just going on and trying to make sure things don't get awkward by talking about not making things awkward and he feels his heart skip a beat because wow it's not what he was expecting at all. She is nothing like Plumeria.

He falls in love at first sight because:

They drive back to the new and fixed up Shady House. Grimhilda reunites with her bestie and she falls in love with Alola, the place already feeling more like home than Kalos ever did.

She's still really nervous and doesn't like to wander around the house without Plumeria, but eventually she runs into garden and sees Guzma with his bug pokemon. He panicks for a minute, unsure of what to say, but Grimhilda is in awe of Golisopod. The giant bug sweeps her up in a hug and Guzma panics even because he thinks it's gonna scare her off and he really doesn't want to make her feel threatened or scared or make Plumeria mad.

But Grimhilda laughs and opens up a little.

Later that day Guzma asks if she would want to go up against him in a pokemon battle. A switch flipped and Grimhilda becomes super excited and loud.

And so they have a battle, and that's when Guzma sees why her and Plumeria were best friends.

Grimhilda is very intense during her battles with her strange Doublade.

She wipes the floor with Guzma and immediately is in tears crying because she beat him and she feels bad. And Guzma laying on the ground, wind knocked out of him from the battle and thinking to himself 'Shit she's cute and scary'.

Guzma's never been in love before, and every moment he spends with Grimhilda he just fell deeper and deeper. And Grimhilda feels more and more comfortable being around him. She opens up to him about her family troubles and they share a moment. She tells him about her old dream of becoming a gym leader but she was always too scared to try. Now she just wanted to work and help as many ghost type pokemon as she could. Guzma gets to tell her about all the misadventures and trouble Team Skull used to get into and about the Aether foundation and what that did to him.

One day, the two decided to go on a small little trip to Poni Island to catch a Dhelmise, but they get distracted and end up playing in the waters and field grass.

And that was their unofficial official first date.

They started dating soon after. When Plumeria found out she nearly killed Guzma and threatened that if he so much as hurt a hair on her head or broke her heart she would feed him to her Salazzle.

And that's Grimhilda!

Gris get's the square eyes from her and the gothic/punk style. He's also cursed to be average height due to Grimhilda being on the shorter side and Guzma being tall as hell.

can i ask ya, do you still want to watch villainous? and do you think that despise everything, the show is still worth supporting and stuff?

Yes, I still watched the new episodes and my favorite is still the last one, which is the only one that really felt like it had stakes and a story. As for supporting...I personally cannot. I just hate how awful the Villainous crew is, especially them joking about how someone who used to work on the show was this ghost (since Alan easily could've resolved it, but decided to say nothing), and just the controversy behind it with the animators. I just can't.

Plus, my experience with the fandom isn't the greatest. Even now, they still get pissed at me because I dare criticize the show and they think I'm trying to "shut it down". Not everyone, ofc, but still.

I cannot stop you from supporting the show. If you still want to, then go ahead. I can't do anything about it. However, if you support it and think Alan is some saint, then I think that's the dumbest thing ever. No one knows Alan really and treating him like he's some "uwu smol child", instead of the actual adult that he is, is just annoying to me.

I know people claim to know Alan and speak to the crew, but without proof....who's to say. Plus, it's kinda crappy, that the crew chose these individuals to talk to...rather than talking to their fanbase as a whole. It's favoritism. It's not different if your parent talked to your siblings or relatives more about common things, rather than telling you anything directly.

mavdad by harddexk. The Daggers have a sleepover and invite Mav to join, only to find out that he gets nightmares every night, has lost the vast majority of his friends and family, and that Ice was his husband, not just his wingman. 3.5k oneshot, G. Hurt/comfort, naturally. Complete.  

Reasons to Stay by Ren_Anders. Warning for suicidal thoughts. Mav doesn’t know how to survive Ice. The universe keeps throwing reasons to hang around at him. Jewish!Ice. Again, warnings for suicidal thoughts (and Mav’s general self-destructiveness). This is not a death fic, but Mav is really having a hard time coping. 2.7k oneshot, T. Complete.

Honorable Mention:

Goodbye, Old Warrior by thesanctuary. The Icemav in this one is platonic, hence the ‘honorable mention’, but that doesn’t mean Mav is any less distraught. Soulmate AUs

Your Damnation, My Salvation by Fuddlewuddle. Soulmarks AU, specifically the names variation. Roosmav. Mav pulls Bradley’s papers, they fall out, and then they find out they’re soulmates. It‘s...less than ideal. Angst and (now) hurt/comfort. Mav is tired and sad and lonely and a bit of (totally) a mess. Going by the tags, there will be smut in future chapters. Ten chapters, 31.9k, E. WIP.

Misery’s Companion by BeccaWrites. A/B/O dynamics, specifically Omega Mav and Alpha Rooster. Roosmav. This isn’t properly a soulmate fic, but it’s also not not a soulmate fic. I decided it can stay. When Goose dies, Mav suddenly has to deal with everything about being an omega again. He hates it. The first several chapters focus on Mav, Carole, and Bradley until the pulled-papers, and then there’s a time skip to the events of TG:M. The author freely admits that Mav is traumatized (for a variety of reasons) and he’s so lonely it hurts. Very good Mav angst in this one. Smut as of/in chapter 21. Twenty-one chapters, 50k, E. WIP.

Shifting Lines by DietTonicDaughter. Soulmarks and reunion AU.  Roosmav. They just miss each other in an airport bar. Luckily, the bartender is high as fuck and has no filter. Poor lonely Mav goes looking, because he just wants to see his boy again. Rooster spots him. Cue realization/confirmation and crying and h/c. I love the emotional maturity that Bradley has in this one (he did some off-screen growing). The whole fic is very sweet. 4.6k oneshot, T. Complete.

Bradley is at least a second generation fisherman. The fic is so good you guys. Mav comes up to the boat and they get to know each other?? over several weeks at least??? *chef’s kiss* I love steadily-falling-in-love fics, and also the image of mer!Mav in a wheelbarrow is Delightful. Before you started dating, he used to get really nervous and awkward whenever you were around. That's how you knew he liked you.

When trying to have a normal conversation with you he would panic and end up saying the wrong things or in very unusual order of the words. He'd facepalm himself in his mind but you would always find it adorable how nervous this smol boi can get.

You were the one that asked him out, since he was shy to ask.

He would be the sweetest boyfriend ever. Always looking out for you and cheering you up when you're feeling down.

Sometimes he would unconsciously grab your hand whenever you're in a briefing, in a mission or just when you're near.

Going on a mission together would probably end in disaster. Ezra would be so easily distracted knowing it's just you and him, you would have to remember him to concentrate on the mission without much success

Though most of the times the missions are chaotic you do make a great team, perfectly coordinating your moves he'd cover you from the blasters with swift moves with his saber as you shot the troopers down.

Being mad at him for cutting his hair because you loved to run your fingers through it, but secretly liking the way the short hair seems to you let see more of his handsome features.

You were also the first to kiss him. 

The Ghost crew would absolutely take any opportunity to tease you. Zeb in particular would never stop coming up with new ways to annoy your poor useless boyfriend

Hera being the supporting space mom she is would always smile when she see you together, seeing the same shine in your eyes she has every time she looks at Kanan

Sabine would definitely paint something in honor of your love as well as a symbol on Ezra's helmet that would match with the one on you

In free times he would teach you how to use his lightsaber, that always ended up with his arms around yours to help you hold the saber the "correct" way.

Cuddling would be another good option to spend some time off mission. He is the perfect human pillow to rest on while you tell him stories about your homeworld or just chill.

He would take you to his tower in Lothal to see the sunset and watch the loth-wolves running in the grasslands.

Sometimes he talks to the hologram of his parents about you and how much he wished they knew you.

She dreamed about the ship the night before she died. It had black sails, unfurled and full of wind that she could feel as it teased her hair. It was empty but she could feel the ghost of his fingertips against her skin, her cheek and her arm and her wrist, the only places he had ever touched her, for he was a man of honor.

He whispered into her ear: “Perhaps one day we will meet again, as characters from a different story.” He kissed her cheek. “Maybe we’ll share a lifetime then.”

And he was gone.

Eama woke up in a flush of heat and sweat and grief, channeling her energy and lighting the candle by her bedside. It flared and dimmed, her power not fully under her control as she grasped for the holder and nearly tumbled to the floor.

The hallway was nearly empty, only the torches lit as they led to the king’s antechamber and the men who stood watch. They bowed to her and pushed the doors open; she barely stopped to nod her thanks before she stood inside and caught her breath. There was one torch that stayed lit, always; it illuminated the fresco, the moment of victory over the Dragon.

The moment that sealed her fate.

Above the fray flew a bird, a single strand of golden hair in its beak.

Her hair, according to the stories that had already become legends. She stood in the sunlight with the sword in her hands, triumphant.

Cursed, though she had not yet known it.

Eama heard the footsteps of the king and waited, her knees bent and her head lowered. She did not flinch away from his touch when his hand brushed against her shoulder.

“My dear,” Lowen said. His voice was full of concern and affection, nothing more--but nothing less, for he did care for her. Eama suddenly felt foolish, standing in the king’s antechamber in her sleeping shift and nothing else on the basis of a dream. But as he took in her posture, her expression, something in him shifted as he understood that something extraordinary had brought her here. She did not typically share these rooms with him.

The queen’s apartments were separate.

“Kenwyn is dead,” she said, and took a harsh and wholly unfair satisfaction in seeing the blood drain from his face, in seeing his hands tremble--in guilt, in rage, in regret? Eama did not know.

She did not care.

“Tomorrow, a ship will arrive in the harbor bearing black sails,” she said. “Kenwyn’s effects will be returned to us.” His effects, but not his body. Kenwyn was a man of the sea and would have been returned to its embrace once his spirit departed from this realm.

“Was he successful in his quest?” The words were strained, and well they should be. Kenwyn had left because of them, as surely as if they had sent him away.

Not a day went by where she did not think of him.

Eama shook her head. “I know not.”

“Will you--” Lowen stopped.

Eama waited.

“Will you go to him?”

“I will,” she said.

When the ship dropped anchor, when its crew disembarked with black armbands adorning their uniforms in honor of their fallen captain, she was there.

Eama received the small box and the condolences and hid her tears until she opened it, retrieving from its depths a ring on a chain.

She put it around her neck and, as the sun set and the sky grew dark, walked aboard the ship.

It was the last time anyone ever saw her.

The sign said ‘Welcome to Storybrooke’ with its stupid ‘e’ and its ‘ye olde smol towne’ charm and she probably would have fallen for it if her car hadn’t broken down right at the goddamn town line.

It was cold, too, so that was awesome.

Emma Swan was leaning against the side of her car, contemplating her breath in the cold when the black Chevelle pulled up next to her. Damn thing looked even older than her yellow Beetle, which made her smile.

The Chevelle’s owner smiled right back. “Car trouble?”

“Not at all,” Emma said. “Just enjoying this fabulous weather.”

“Ah, I see. So I don’t suppose you’d like a lift the rest of the way into town, then?”

Emma laughed. “Actually, I just talked to Gus at the garage, he’s gonna send a tow.”

“Don’t deprive a man of a dashing rescue,” he said, pouting.

Emma eyed the car. “Your heat works?”

“You have no idea,” he said, rolling his tongue over his lips and waggling his eyebrows.

Emma raised an eyebrow of her own and his smile shifted into something more genuine. “Get in, it’s no problem.”

“Can you drop me at the library?”

“Ah,” he said. “Are you, by chance, Emma Swan?”

Emma eyed him.  It was probably a really stupid idea to get into a car with a strange guy who knew her name but Emma had her gun and could probably break several bones in his body before he'd even realized what was happening.  She opened the door and climbed in. “I am.”

“Killian Jones,” he said, watching her buckle the seat belt before offering a hand to shake.

Emma took it, feeling suddenly flustered. When she’d phoned to make an appointment with Dr. Killian Jones, a thirty-something gorgeous British man in a car that was possibly older than either of them was not exactly what she had in mind and the frisson that ran through her when their hands touched was also definitely unexpected.

His hand was so warm.

She wanted to pull away but also never to let go and they just sat there, staring at each other, their hands wrapped around each other’s over the gearshift until he cleared his throat and blinked and pulled away.

Emma sighed. In relief.

In disappointment.

“At least now I needn’t worry about being late for our appointment,” he said. “Seems a bit like fate, yeah? Are you warming up, Swan?”

“Yeah,” she said. The shivering had been replaced by a tingling, but she definitely wasn’t cold.

“And you have the ring you were asking about?”

Emma nodded.

“Wonderful,” he said. He shifted and drove over the town line and into Storybrooke.

Awesome.

Cowboy Pirate Prologue

The port town was small, not much more than a weathered dock and a smoky inn. The crew of The Last Ghost, formerly the HMS Glorious, were anxious to return to the sea. They’d sold the spoils of their last raiding mission, and were just waiting for their captain, Raleigh Morden, Scourge of Ascua, to finish his drink.

Cade, the cabin boy, approached Morden as he downed the last dregs of rum. He’d been asking about for news, and his face was grim as he relayed it to the captain.

“Them new ships are unbeatable. Apparently one of ‘em sunk the High Priestess last week off the coast of Oblos.”

Morden’s one eye widened. “The Priestess was the finest ship on all the seas. What of Captain Grail?”

“As I heard it, not a man survived, Huxley included. Them Ascuan Ironsides hit too hard, move too fast, and there ain’t a cannon that can break those hulls.”

Morden shook his head sadly. “Aye. There be no way to capture such a ship, nor sink it, nor outrun it. Looks to me like the end o’ piracy. Ascua’s Navy’s gonna rule the seas ‘til their Empire falls.”

“What comes next?”

“The seas may be closed, but I hear there’s gold to be had in Eprya. I meself plan to die at sea, my blood be to too salty to wind up in the dirt. But if me bones don’t deceive me,  the next round o’ pirates’ll be sailing the sands rather than the waves.”

Cade stared off into space, imagining the endless waves replaced by equally endless dunes. “I don’t wanna die at sea, not in the face of those Ironclads. I want to put up a good fight. And I can’t do that on the ocean.”

It’s a rough first draft of a prologue, nothing more than some swanky world building and a little quirky characterization. True cowboy pirate-ing shall be put off until the next installment (or forever if I forget about this).
