But they’re both too sleepy still, too relaxed. Steve breaths deep and snuggles into Eddie's arms. Then Eddie feels Steve's head move, so he peeks over to see Steve face. Body loose and Eddie tangles their legs together, buries his face in Steve’s neck, and breaths.

Steve plays the same song over and over. It's new, from a band he loved then forgot about. But there’s this part in it, this new song, part of the bridge he thinks Eddie said. Steve likes it so much. Just that little part. He sings along to it, copying it. It sounds so nice. 

He plays the song over and over. Eddie helps him put it on a tape. That one song. The one song with that part on the bridge. Over and over on the same tape. It’s so good. Steve plays it on his Walkman if someone is over. Plays it over and over, until his mind starts to wander during it, he's heard it so many times. Until that best part seems stamped in his head - never to be forgotten.

It's so good, that little part, the whole song.

Steve plays it again.

It's so he can feel in control. So if everything went weird and wrong in his day, at least he knows that lunch will be normal. The same as every other day.

No worrying about if they have what he wants or if there will be enough protein to keep him feeling full. No stress that there won’t be anything around he wants to eat which would mean he doesn’t eat anything, the hunger manageable for a while until it’s encroaching on him slowly and he’s snapping at Robin but forgetting the cause. His tension rising and his jaw clenching, and before he knows it it’s the end of the day and his head is pounding and all he can do is go home and sleep off his tension headache. Evening gone for anything fun, ruined by pain. Steve hates that.

So Steve makes packed lunches, makes a couple at a time, sometimes enough for the whole week in one go.

Sometimes he has a craving for diner food, and that's okay, him and Robin sharing an order of fries and Steve getting his burger with extra lettuce and pickles on the side. And that's okay, some days, if it feels right. He has his lunch for dinner and enjoys.

But still, he makes packed lunches.

Just so he knows.

No matter what happens. Lunch is the same as every other day. <3

The tendrils in KJ's mouth aren't like Jamies! they're both purple, but Jamies can become jagged and Sharp to shove into a wound and it kind of regenerates the tissue and stitches it back together. This stings soooooo badly. worse than pure alcohol, somehow. on the bright side, the sting will go away immediately after the tendrils are outta there

KJ's tendrils are just soft and squishy but firm enough to chew on, which is something KJ tends to do a lot to stim. Also, KJ also has regenerative attributes in their saliva - it's just not as quick as what Jamie can do and also it won't sting lol. It's still very effective at healing wounds tho!

And KJ's tendrils don't really have any significant qualites, they're just There.

Simon has a habit of drawing on himself with marker. One thing or another about tattoos and reminders and other such things. He also has a few scars (even from before he went to prison. Learning how to use a sword had a couple mishaps) and draws over them

Trusted friends - and Aura because he cant stop her - are allowed to also use marker to draw on him. Phoenix Wright is one of those trusted people (though Simon can’t place exactly why) and Simon has to say. The painting he got on his back both felt nice and was almost too pretty to wash off

Good at cooking!!! hes good at cooking. Athena likes his cooking a lot and has a habit of bringing recipes over and telling him he should try it. he does. its good. over time he gains a BUNCH of different kitchen supplies. i’d list them out but i dont know the names of kitchen stuff

He cant make sweets. he goes off about some. hands stained with something something makes them all come out sour, sounds poetic and all and athena kinda pipes up from the back “hes just really bad at it” and widget rolls around in a nod.

For his birthday he got together with Aura and Athena and they all built a cute bird robot (for the most part anatomically correct) but before they coded in the ai Simon was like “ok wait but i dont WANT a lil robot pal. i have taka already. this one is metal it cant even fly” and aura took that on as a challenge and made it so the robot could fly and simon started teaching her about how to care for a bird and she doesnt hit her robots anymore its great. ah yes she got the bird robot. to be clear

Back to the sweet tooth thing, he likes having something in his mouth. if its not a feather then well. hello lollypops. Athena mistook it for a cigarette, Tyrell Badd style. She was quiet about it for a while, and then was like “you shouldnt smoke its bad for ur lungs” and hes like “yes? im aware. where did this come from” and she points to his mouth and widget goes “UR SMOKING” and then he pulls the lollypop out of his mouth and theyre like. “oh.”

Simon is friends with everyone except not really? Like he’s gotten to the point where he can be friendly mean to most of them and they’ll be friendly mean back. But also he doesn’t spend time with them? Like there’s Athena who’s his sister and she kinda just. is in his house and took his spare key. and aura who’s also his sister who took the spare key athena had and made one of her own. but everyone else is just. has the capability to be considered friends because of how they act but is also really just acquaintances?

audio processing is wonky. he's p good at focusing on ppl he's talking to but always feels so awkward bc he can hear conversations happening across the room no hes not eavesdropping he can just hear it that's a l l v good for intel gathering tho

on the subject of accidental eavesdropping... hickory was rly proud when he realized he could use it for gathering info on marks. he accidentally overheard someone making plans in a bar and told dickory, who was rly baffled and amazed that hickory managed to hear that over the din of the bar, which made hickory realize That's Not Super Common and then he felt a little bit better abt it after bc he felt super awkward abt it before

object permanence gets weird w adhd. for example, out of sight out of mind is just a general truth. this boy has to keep things in front of him/in his awareness or hes just like '...wait does that thing exist.' so he doesn't have much in the way of stuff he doesnt use often and tends to rebuild less common items he might need bc he forgot them somewhere lol

this unfortunately can extend to relationships :( trips to lonesome flats can make him feel a little bit emotionally distant from his new friends/partners in pop village... and visa versa during trips to pop village and w friends/family in lonesome flats

hickory uses coffee as a form of self-medication, since the caffeine helps him calm down and focus. he gets weird when he doesn’t get to drink it. it’s also his special interest!! he loves talking abt coffee and could do it for ages 

dickory Does Not understand how coffee doesnt make hickory jittery. he just has one cup and gets all jumpy, meanwhile hickory feels the most chill hes been all day w his first cup. dickory would probably stop drinking coffee w minimal downsides except that hickory keeps automatically making him a cup every day and it tastes rly good so

he prefers drinking coffee in the evening/night bc it helps him sleep. another reason dickory is constantly ??? abt how hickory isnt just bouncing off the walls, esp since when hickory was younger and not old enough for coffee yet he was an absolute nightmare to try and get to sit still

time blindness is a thing and hickory personally measures time in his music and cooking times as opposed to... an actual system of time. hug bracelets are actually super useful as a tool to train time awareness since they go off every hour and he gets mildly weirded out when he realizes he knows when it's gonna go off, since hes not normally so great at that kind of thing

hyperfocuses on construction projects. great for finishing big things in one go. not great for remembering to eat food/sleep. dickory tends to have to drag him away when he's been sitting and carving for 14 hours

hes not super great at volume control but since he grew up yodeling he's much better at it than he might have been. he tends to either be slightly soft spoken or VERY LOUD

usually v good at reading ppl but also tends to overcorrect abt making sure they heard/understood him, partially bc of the soft spokenness, partially bc english is his second language, partially bc he knows he leans on metaphors/idioms a lot

oh yeah he does that too!! its just easier to make a metaphor/simile/idiom that ppl already know and have context for rather than try and explain himself. makes him seem very good at being succinct. however sometimes he mixes up german and country ones and sometimes ppl dont know them at all and he gets stuck in a rambly loop attempting to explain himself... more than just branch have gotten a little snappy and went "ok yes i get it"

loves chewing on stuff. doesnt normally chew too hard but oh my god there is always smth in his mouth unless he's talking. dickory ends up reusing old habits of handing off things that ur allowed to chew on when he starts helping w clampers, tho he quickly figures out he has to give her much tougher things than hickory ever needed

hickory ends up sharing a lot of stims w his friends/family/partners bc he was like 'i use them for self comfort i can help them out by teaching them right?' and now sometimes he just ends up grinning when he sees them mirroring smth he does bc yes it did help them :)

hickory usually holds onto his belt/suspenders when he's thinking/embarrassed and can get a little anxious if he ends up not having anything to grab onto. putting his hands on his hips works but its like... not rly good enough, in his opinion

(i think ive mentioned a few times tht lou likes singing but that is admittedly an understatement. he loves singing. he hears a song he knos the lyrics to and he feels incredibly compelled to sing tho his lack of confidence stops him in public spaces. u may hear a bit of humming when no ones paying attention to him tho)

(going off that there are certain kindsa songs he likes singing more than others, think its been mentioned that he likes higher energy music generally speaking so naturally thats the kinda music he likes to sing to but he REALLY likes songs he can just belt to it feels so satisfying to him. he is surprisingly good at adele songs)

(he cannot sing really rough throaty songs to save his life tho like just thinkin abt it makes his throat hurt. he likes a fair bit of metal and screamo n stuff but his voice is just too smooth to sing it. smooth but lightly textured. like vanilla icecream w the lil vanilla beans n stuff still in it. hes also not very good at whistling)

(hes mostly a tenor but he does have a pretty decent range and his falsetto is p decent tho it does hurt his throat)

(its also been mentioned that hes alright at guitar but i like 2 thnk inbetween whatever actual lessons he took the very first songs he taught himself were probably sum very embarrassing sappy little love songs w simple chords. u kno how it is when ur a repressed gay teenager)

(idk how any of yall read his voice but generally he talks kinda quietly, very much not a very loud or present person, which is good for not getting caught committing crimes but not very good for socializing as he has discovered.)

(his semi soft voice is decently reflective of his physical characteristics too, i think i mentioned like once that his hair is very thick and soft, but his skin is also p soft with the exception of some scars here and there)

(speaking of his more notable scars are a burn scar on his right forearm from when he was really young, no one remembers exactly how he got it but it had something to do with a kitchen accident, and sum cut scars on his left shoulder from shortly after he’d moved out of his mom’s house. he also has various minor scars on his hands and wrists from handling/playing with cats and getting into the occasional knife fight back in the city as well as a very small scar on his upper lip from a time a dog bit his face when he was young)

(u might not guess it but he is incredibly clumsy and does not have the best spatial awareness when it comes to like. objects. he does fine not crashing into people but hes probably bumped into a lamp post at least once)

(idk if its ever come across but he also does lots of hand gestures when hes talking. snapping his fingers or shaking his hands when hes tryna think trying to illustrate what hes talking about with vague motions. he does a lot of shit w his hands in general, tapping fingers on surfaces drumming his hands on his legs, doin peace signs n finger guns and playing with his fingers/clothes mindlessly)

(hes also the kinda person who has an idle animation™ when hes not distracted by talking to someone or just paying attention to something he’ll probably rock back n forth on his feet or bobbing up and down probably to the rhythm of a song stuck in his head or something, speaking of songs, again, humming is a thing he does too)

(he stumbles over his words a bunch when hes excited, even if hes trying to keep his cool stumbling and stuttering are some of the most tell tale signs of him being excited tho it also happens when hes anxious or flustered. id say it applies to strong emotions in general but it absolutely does not apply to stuff like when hes real angry or sad)

(when hes real angry or sad his speech tends to actually be much more concise, he’ll speak slower and take time to really consider his words. when he’s angry both his expression and the words he chooses have the potential to cut like a hot knife thru soft butter, and when he’s sad hes more considering his words to try and keep from bringing the person hes talking to down)

(ive drawn him with a sketchbook a couple times but he probably has a journal with some writing in it too, nothing serious just thoughts he has sometimes phrased with flowery words but its not like. super amazing poetry or anything. hes no elliott)

(idk how clear ive made it on the blog but he absolutely hates morris. morris is probably the only person in town who hes like physically threatened. morris has thusly elected to avoid fucking with him as much as physically possible)

(i think its been mentioned he carries some kinda pocket knife on him at all times but he also likes to carry one a those novelty combs that looks n acts like a switchblade but its not. mostly just to fuck w ppl. pull out what looks like a switchblade then open it and hah uve been fooled it was a comb all along)

(speaking of combs bcus his hair is thick and wavy as mentioned before hes gotta take real good care of it or it gets. Unmanageable. when he was a teenager he didnt take care of it for a while n it got so long and tangled it broke like 2 combs it was awful)

(that in mind he is prone to getting wicked bed head. catch him when he first wakes up and its like a rat king was planted on his head)

(also did i mention he has several knives? pocket knives switchblades hes probably got a decorative dagger in a box somewhere, and ofc his monster fighting sword. he probably has a pair of brass knuckles somewhere too)

(its defintiely been hinted at more than a few times but lou is a huge foodie. he is always hungry and loves food but he cant stand mint or bitter tastes sometimes he has a hard time w sour stuff too. he likes spicy and savory/umami/w/e foods best, and while he does have a decent sweet tooth he can make himself sick off sugary stuff pretty easy especially w really dense sweets like fudgy brownies n shit)

(the reason hes not so good w mint and bitter things is cus his senses r very keen and bitter and mint are very unpleasant to his mouth and nose. theyre intense and stick around much longer than theyre welcome and it just feels bad ykno. this in mind he could not explain to u why he likes spicy stuff as much as he does)

(hes also really sensitive to like actual temperatures, especially heat. if it gets too hot and humid it can make him real nauseous n give him a migraine, hes better in the cold but even then it makes him really sneezy n sniffly. this is moderately ironic considering the previous point)

His hair is sensory heaven. Literally, it's so fluffy! Pet it please. He craves physical affection to begin with, so it's a plus for him! He also loves seeing how much you're infatuated with his hair alone

Buys you anything that you think might be good to stim with! He helps you keep everything clean and organised so you don't get stressed over losing them, and makes sure he has at least one with him when you two go out, he would hate seeing you stressed.

If you go nonverbal he also has no problem with it at all! He knows sl and is definitively up to teach it to you if you think it would be helpful, too. If you just want to be quiet, he can be just as good of a company!

When he says stuff like threats to himself (wanting to die, killing himself) and you get worried because read him too seriously he backs off of it and says its not serious (and he's sincere this time) because you're the brightest spotlight of hope in his life, and losing it would mean losing the chance to be with you

This sweet boy!!! Sometimes he forgets what exactly you need, like sensory wise, but backs off really quickly if what he's doing hurts you in that sense

He also loves fiddling with things so if you want to borrow some tools from him so you can fiddle with its no problem! He might make a handmade fidget toy for you later on!

Sometimes he yells too much and that causes a sensory overload, and as soon as he realizes it he's so so so apologetic. The baby

Can also be very noisy, but he cuts it out around you. Turns soft spoken and gentle because you can't differentiate friendly aggression x real aggression. It's super sweet but only you get to see this part of him; he has a reputation to maintain!

Usually, he's the shorter one in the relationship, so you can completely envelop him like a little teddy bear! Don't crush him, though; just hug him tight! If he's on the same height level he'll insist to be the big spoon and add a lot of pressure (not enough to hurt you) as he hugs you!

When you happy stim, he gives you a soft, warm and genuine smile. He's so enamoured with you and the happiness you're experiencing makes him so so so full of passion

Lets his animals run all over you! Especially the very fluffy ones since you seem to love that. When they lay on you and you comment on how much you like the pressure, he lets them get around you even more!

He knows how hatred for being touched feels like — he took a while to open up to you, for starters. If you don't want to be touched, he absolutely understands and will support you in any other way until you're up for it again.

He's known for eloquent and unclear speech, but will be more straightforward for you. He wants you to understand him after all sksbsmdnn dumb bastard

1. do you stim?

yes, sometimes! i’ve suppressed a lot of it over time but i still do some subtly.

 if so, what are yr favourite stims? 

touching/tapping the tips of my fingers together, stroking soft patches of skin(esp backs of my hands, wrists, or parts of my thighs, hips, ankles), cracking knuckles, stretching fingers/feet/arms/legs rly far, rapid blinking(though i also have a tic involving blinking which is similar, but involuntary), bubble wrap,flicking light switches/door lock mechanisms, bouncing on toes, toewalking, chewing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(esp pens/pen caps and similar textures), biting, mouthing/lipping things, clacking my teeth lightly, whistling, leg jiggle sometimes, jumping, skipping, hopping, and a few other rly specific things (like involving swimming, or being on something and hanging so im upside down and stuff)

BPD, (various types of)depression, DPD/social anxiety(when i’m alone)/agoraphobia, panic disorder NOS, mood disorder NOS, DID, ADD/ADHD-PI, ASD, gender dysphoria at one point, conduct disorder or whatever it was called. IED. all i can think of. all diagnosed professionally over the years, though ASD is not on any official records because i asked it to be left off to avoid that specific abuse/stigma.

13. is the community youve found with other mentally ill ppl helpful?

mostly no. but in some ways, yes. i appreciate having more access to info, hearing relatable stories, common symptoms/experiences that help me understand things better, etc. close friends with illnesses/disorders are nice, but mostly i know them for other reasons outside of diagnoses.

14. do you find it challenging to tell ppl yr mentally ill?

absolutely

15. what are the most effective coping mechanisms youve found?

im not sure. i just...cope? somehow? not always effectively, but idk.

16. have you ever been to therapy?

ya

if yes, what helped and what didnt help?

i hate group therapy. in individual therapy, i like having my husband sit in on the sessions for support. therapist NEEDS to prompt me and ask active and specific questions. setting clear goals with clear steps helps. a lot of more “creative” methods actually are super unhelpful for me.

17. do "find your happy place" exercises help you or no?

sort of? i don’t try them much. usually they make me sadder that im not there.

18. what are some of the most Tiresome Cliches ppl tell you to deal with yr mental illness (i.e., "just do yoga!")? 

“everyone gets depressed”, “yoga”, “fresh air, sunlight, and exercise!”, “essential oils”, “meditation”, “_______ diet/supplement”, “mind over matter”, “lose some weight” (THIS DOES NOT MEAN NONE OF THESE CAN BE HELPFUL AND I DO WANT TO DO SOME OF THESE THINGS, BUT STATING THE OBVIOUS ABOUT THIS SHIT AND BEING CONDESCENDING IS SO FUCKING ANNOYING)

asthma - like 4 yrs old, tendonitis - like 13 yrs old, unspecified pain/inflammation - 2019 professionally (like 2011 ish on my own, but really it started when i was ~13), nocturnal epilepsy - not done with diagnosis process/testing as of july 2019, a few chronic infections that don’t affect me any more were diagnosed when i was a kid, idk

22. do you find the support system with other similarly affected ppl to be helpful?

i’ve not been involved much, tried it out, really

23. what do you struggle w most on a daily basis?

pain/inflammation/stiffness in joints, back, neck, shoulders, feet

i wanna say sleep, but it actually makes everything worse so, new diet(anti inflammation), making goals/plans, spirituality, going to healing places like the woods or by the sea or mountains, massage, soft comforting petting from my husband

25. what do you want to tell able-bodied and neurotypical ppl in regards to chronic illness?

it’s not the same. yeah maybe “everyone has back pain”, but my pain and your pain are different; they happen for different reasons and they affect us in different ways. if everyone is in pain we should do something to make life easier for everyone, not dismiss people who are suffering.
