So with the announcement of a DC Jason Todd/Dick Greyson movie. Some of this studios work, has come into light. The following footage is from Sway Box Studios. They specialize in animation/Claymation and Puppetry. I know we talk about The feasibility of being able to achieve the animation and find the proper animation style.

Personally I think they'd NAIL The Underland Chronicles.

So I went to che k the studios mentioned.

This is their test/sample reel. Watch it, for God's sake. Especially after 2:40.

And it hit me.

Taking in how comfortable Reeves is with what I call "unfortunate uncomfortable implications", and how dogged Gunn is over giving some limelight to the Robins and other Batfam left aside from cinema since forever, taking into account Gunn decided to bring Robin Damian to cinema with zero qualms, and how Reeves be like, all is fair in love and war with his unapologetic writing and directing ---

What I am saying is, there is a non-zero chance they might use designs that are less "Up" and more.... merch dolls. What I'm saying, is McFarlane type of designs. No imagine them move.

What i am trying to get to, is that this feature film has non-zero chance of being sexy, innuendo sprinkled animation with an age restriction.

What I am saying is, they are, might be, going for audience that are familiar with Nightwing and Red Hood from the Games, because this sort of animation alludes to similar aesthetic.

What I'm saying, is, that this film might be less "Up" and more merch toys designs. You get my drift?

Here’s the thing with the new Jason and Dick movie coming out.

I really hope that they don’t bring up Jason’s death.

From what I know, it’s going to be Dick and Jason in the early days. When Dick is Nightwing and Jason is Robin. I don’t think that Jason will die because that’s a lot more emphasis on Bruce and Jason than Dick and Jason. But like… I want one piece of media with Jason that is not focused on his death or resurrection.

Also, I want good dad Bruce. I want Dick and Jason to be absolute gremlins, tormenting Bruce with their little jabs and shit. I want them to have the vibe of Dick being like “Fuck you Bruce! I don’t need you anymore! I’m going on this super cool mission SOLO!!” And Bruce is like “okay son, but you have to bring your little brother with you.” And Dick is like “OMG BRUCE YOUR THE WORST!!” And Jason takes offence to that and kicks his shins.

Also also, you should really check out the studio that’s animating the movie. They have these beautiful animatronic puppets that really remind me of Laika characters. Yeah, it’s going to be puppets and stop motion. Sign me the fuck up. I can’t wait to see their designs and how it will look!! They’re called Swaybox!

Hey! I was told you may find the puppetry reel of Swaybox Studios from Louisiana really neat, I'm genuinely surprised i haven't been able to find many people talking about them outside of Louisiana (you can find the reel on their website)

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s a really cool project that just got greenlit at DC Studios and Warner Bros Pictures Animation: Dynamic Duo. It will mark the first joint project between DC Studios and the Bill Damaschke-led WBPA. The 6th & Idaho movie scripted by Matthew Aldrich is being made by a new animation studio out of New Orleans named Swaybox and that studio’s husband-and-wife creators Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson. Mintz will direct this movie, which follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd aka the Robins.

i can’t believe more people arent hyped for the jason todd and dick grayson movie. it’s written by the guy who wrote coco. it’s animation is done by swaybox studios, whose style is literally gorgeous. look at their demo reel. like what

How do you feel about the rumors of a new Nightwing and Red Hood movie?

Oh it's not just a rumor, James Gunn has confirmed that it's happening.

I'm excited by the premise of it, especially since it won't be DC's usual animation style. I just looked at Swaybox, the New Orleans based company that's making the film with puppets, and I'm really impressed by their sets and such. Still, I'm not the biggest fan of puppets, but I do appreciate the process that goes into making a film with them.

As for the story itself, I find this AU to potentially be fun and interesting. Like I said in another post, it's kind of giving me Fox and the Hound vibes. I was also watching Anakin edits last night, and now that I'm thinking back on it, Obi-Wan's, "You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you," seems like it could be fitting for this Dick and Jason story, depending on how far they take things with Jason and his differing views. Probably a bit extreme for this movie though. Well. Maybe. We shall see. They very well could reconcile at the end of it all.

Since this is an AU, I'm not going to be super strict about Dick and Jason's backstories (unless they did something absolutely insane like give Dick Jason's backstory and vice versa, which like, why tf would they do that lmao, but you get what I mean). That also means I'm not gonna throw a fit if Dick and Jason happen to be closer in age or get taken in by Bruce around the same time. Again, it's an AU, I feel like there's more room to play with certain details like that. This doesn't sound like it's the type of movie for biblically accurate canon.

Sure, there are some concerns that could crop up (as Kalen aka bigskydreaming so helpfully pointed out to me (how dare you, Kalen, how daaare!)). But until more info comes out about the movie, I'm just gonna chill. (Cut to me in X amount of months/years being like, "Why are they doing that, that's so fucking stupid!" lmaooo).

the animation company that is working on the movie (swaybox) isn’t one i am particularly familiar with but i looked them up and they genuinely seem like a team who are passionate in their work and highly talented. cant wait to drag all my friends to go see the movie in theaters and seeing the new fans the movie will bring!!

James Gunn Has Announced A New DC Studios Film, Dynamic Duo

James Gunn took to twitter to announce a new film, Dynamic Duo, which features the Dick Grayson and Jason Todd Robin's.

James Gunn is bypassing all of the usual avenues and announcing new projects on social media for all of us to see. Right now, we know of quite a few DC Studios projects that are in development, and it sounds like we're getting another. Gunn took to his social media to share a very interesting-sounding new project with Dynamic Duo. Gunn shared a statement on his official X/Twitter account and an explanation of the film,

"Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, DYNAMIC DUO, the story of Robin… or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves' 6th & Idaho. This is something special."

If you're a Robin fan, then it sounds like all of your dreams are about to come true because you're not just getting Dick Grayson in this feature but certified mess of a human being, Jason Todd as well. The way that Gunn describes this project is very interesting as well. We always love to see new advances in animation, and it sounds like Dynamic Duo will do that.

In terms of Batman, there are quite a few different projects in the works and being released at DC Studios. Joker: Folie à Deux comes out this weekend, and The Penguin is doing very well for HBO. The Batman Part II currently has a release date of October 2, 2026, and another Batman film, called The Brave and the Bold, is also in the works. Those are just the projects we know about since, with this announcement, it's pretty clear that there are plenty of other things bouncing around at DC Studios that are being kept under wraps.

Add another title to the Warner Bros. Pictures Animation Goddamn That's A Mouthful slate, unsurprisingly a DC-inspired property.

I guess Ron Clements and John Musker's METAL MEN was part of that $115m write-off a while back, alongside TOTO and COYOTE VS. ACME... Because this new WBPA-DC movie we're getting is DYNAMIC DUO, a Robin story with both Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

A hybrid film, DC Studios head James Gunn curiously described it as a mix of "animation, puppetry, and CGI"...

I was a bit puzzled by that at first, given that CGI *is* animation... Did this mean that 2D was being employed? Or was this a mesh of DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS cartoony CG and realistic live-action blockbuster CG? The studio that's doing the animation for this film is Swaybox, and having seen some of their work... Including this Super Bowl ad:

We're in for a visual dynamic, game-changing picture, I reckon.

No director has been named, but THE BATMAN director Matt Reeves is involved as producer, and the script is being written by COCO and LIGHTYEAR scribe Matt Aldrich.

I felt like Warner Bros. had been dragging their feet on a theatrical animated DC adaptation after SPIDER-VERSE, though they did do the pretty fun aforementioned SUPER-PETS, and one year prior to SPIDER-VERSE you had THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE. But I mean something seismic, like SPIDER-VERSE was, like MUTANT MAYHEM was. Something like that unmade BATMAN BEYOND movie that was being kicked around a few years ago... A superhero animated feature that bothers to flip the script on what a theatrical animated movie could look and feel like? Maybe this will be that kind of movie?

Anyways, so far, the Warner animation slate...

I'm so excited for Dick and Jason to be getting their own film. It's a perfect opportunity to explore their dynamic!

I checked out Swaybox's website to see what their animation kind of looks like, to get a bit of an idea of what Dynamic Duo might look like (I've never done this kind of thing before so I don't really know what to look for because I've never been one to know about movies until a trailer is released, lol). To me their mix of puppetry, animation, and CGI reminds me almost of claymation in its visuals.

I'm a little unsure on if I like the style, but who knows how exactly the movie will even look. I'm just super excited and have nothing better to do than speculate.
