Just because you're attached to a name, or have source memories doesn't mean you're entitled to a name from a culture you can't be apart of. I am never taken seriously by white people in the community and it's shitty.

hmm.

when you're listening to asian voices, i can see the argument that asian people arent a monolith so their opinions are different depending on who you ask. i've seen asian systems tell the world that they've asked their Buddhist family members about tupla discourse and they've said that using the terminology is okay and fine.

ignoring that anyone on the internet can lie for sake of my argument, i can see why it's hard for people to understand which asian voices to listen to. it's not like we're all born with a race card that tells you how valid your opinion is in internet discourse. but there's two distinctions here that i want to comment on.

when you're citing specific asian voices that validate your opinion, you're putting all the blame and responsibility on that asian person instead of just owning up to it and being like "yeah. its my opinion". this causes a few problems. mostly being that you can fall back on that system of color and place all the blame off of you. the equivalent of being like "well my poc friend said this was okay so it must be okay".

something white systems NEED to understand is that they need to take responsibility for their internalized racism. the unwillingness to change and to fall back on the "good poc voices" is actively harmful. when you're only listening to some poc voices instead of thinking what would benefit the whole community, you're essentially picking and choosing which people of color you wanna care about.

instead of defending your unwillingness to change, maybe think about what your actions say about how you see race.

Skin color is strange when you are colorblind.

We can see a gradient of dark to light but not much more that that. We cannot tell the difference between “warm” skin tones and “cool” skin tones. We cannot see the yellow tint in our own skin. We cannot tell the difference between people who have similar skin tones but have green, red, yellow, orange tints. We’re not even sure we’re using tints right because we can’t see them and barely understand how they work. We only know them from other people and their descriptions of themselves and others.

We can’t see when people blush. Which can cause issues socially. We can’t see strawberry blonde hair. We can’t see our true hair or eye color so our image of the body is false.

We wonder about this visual spectrum of humanity we cannot see. We fear we will miss social cues because we cannot see when people flush or blush or pale. We hope people will understand.

Welcome! This blog was made by us, afrodescendants and plural, to help other black/brown plurals and plurals of color. We've been making icon edits for ourselves (especially for our fictive friends) for more than a year and we wanted to share what we're making. Having icons with our skin color and sometimes our hair helps a ton and if it can help even one person out there that would be awesome. Now we have more ideas than just posting icons but this was our starting point!

Can the system community be normal about people of color for one day please? Especially poc from closed cultures? As a Native American system I am genuinely so sick and tired of not feeling welcome in system spaces because of how often other systems feel it is okay to appropriate my, and other poc's cultures.

No, being a system isn't an excuse. Being an introject whose source is from that culture isn't an excuse. I do not care how attached they are to it, if it's a closed part of a culture the system is not a part of, they need to drop it. Yes even things like names. It isn't yours to claim if you aren't a part of the culture because you do not have the lived life experiences of those people and will never have the same level of understanding of it as people who are a part of it and therefore cannot claim parts of it meant to be only open to people in it. If people are saying part of their culture is closed respect it instead of making excuses. And for the love of everything stop fucking guilt tripping poc with how YOU feel about having to let go of parts of THEIR culture when they tell you to.

imo, every system of color should come up with an ethnic name for their system members. its so fun! the body has two names! our american name and then our vietnamese name! have fun with it :) research all you want. especially for my systems of color who dont feel connected to their culture at all
