🚨MOTA EP. 5 SPOILERS BELOW🚨
I can't be the only one who was completely blindsided by Bubbles' death. I've read A Wing and a Prayer by Harry Crosby, so I thought I was going to have more time to prepare for what was eventually going to happen...wrong. I knew what was going to happen to Curt at Regensburg, I knew what was going to happen to Buck at Bremen, and Egan at Münster, but this???? THIS????
It's the only historical inaccuracy I have a qualm with so far. I know they can't do everything exactly right, but Bubbles didn't go down for another 5 months. I looked it up on the 100th BG Foundation database, and Joseph 'Bubbles' Payne was KIA on April 28, 1944, while being the lead navigator on a mission to Sottevast, France, after the 100th brand new (idiot) CO decided to go over a target twice at the same altitude (on the same mission). Payne is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery at Omaha Beach.

see i dont necessarily disagree w the terry being sick theory its whatever its fine HOWEVER taking that elevator scene between him carmen n johnny as proof of it is WRONG
1. mr silver is a man who does five contingencies per contingency do you THINK he'd be caught unawares by johnny. of all people. do you think they'd accidentally cross paths. absolutely not. terry very likely is having both him & daniel watched and knows all their movements. so stumbling across him. sloppy. not in terry's style
2. if he WAS sick he'd get the upmost private care or have a doctor come into his home there's no way he'd risk his enemies finding out. the projection of power/strength means EVERYTHING to this man.
3. carmen was just getting an ultrasound so it probably wouldn't even be in a hospital, it'd be some private care place which i Guess you can be like oh maybe terry sees a doctor there too (ignoring points one and two) but i think a millionaire and a single unmarried mother wouldn't end up w the same insurance.
4. it was Very Obviously just a display of power on terry's part, he knows johnny wouldn't HESITATE to kick his ass if he was on his own so he engineered that meeting so johnny would have someone to protect + fighting in itself would be awkward/if not impossible.

hopeless time loop. the way out isn’t to save everyone. the way out isn’t to save even one person. the way out isn’t to change anything. the way out is accepting how it happened the first time is how it always will be. that’s how you acted, that’s how they acted, that’s how you would have acted every time if you weren’t given the curse of hindsight. the way out is accepting you can’t fix the past; you can only forgive yourself for it.

Question, is there tiny soukoku corruption??????
With big Chuuya around I don't think Tiny would ever need to use Corruption. His tiny gravity manipulation isn't as strong.
But you got it in my head so let's picture it: there is this 3cm-tall dude that faintly glows red and throws deadly baseballs around. He's fast, dangerous, and, again, 3cm tall. Good luck catching, or even spotting him.
It's Chuuya who ends up having to catch him and throw him at Dazai like a ping pong ball so Dazai can nullify him. Or maybe throw Tinyzai at him. Your pick.
and then Tiny rolls over and starts snoring the hurt away because he's Chuuya and he's just built different.
tiny snore

it's so funny trying to talk to people about Speed Racer (2008), because it's like...what if there was a guy who drove a car so well that he defeated capitalism

Ok class repeat after me:
It's ok to like evil and "problematic" characters.
They're not real, they haven't hurt anyone
Their victims are not real either, nobody is hurt
They're merely a vehicle for storytelling and entertainment
There is no need to tear other characters down to justify their actions
They're not you. Them being wrong or bad is not you being wrong or bad
There is no need to make up arbitrary rules and moral codes to justify your taste in fiction
Their fictional actions and morals have nothing to do with the real actions and morals of real people
The only hurt parties are the people affected by your negative and aggressive behavior

bothers me in trc fandom when people refer to “ronan’s suicide attempt” because it was pretty importantly NOT a suicide attempt. gansey, noah, adam, they all assumed it was, which is why gansey freaks out when ronan goes missing overnight at the beginning of trb, but it is not. it was a dream creature he brought back that had clawed him up.
i’m sure you could argue that that’s just an indirect suicide attempt, ronan’s subconscious, etc (opal tells him the night horrors are him), but i don’t see it that way. ronan is angry and grieving and violent in the wake of niall’s death. the night horrors, to my knowledge, don’t target ronan so much as they target any soft, living thing they can destroy. we don’t see this scene happen. we don’t see the day or the nightmare that comes before. we just have ronan’s word, and ronan says it wasn’t a suicide attempt, so it wasn’t.
and we can talk in circles then about whether ronan is suicidal actually—personally i think he has a sort of reckless disregard for his own life (see: drag racing, dream drugs) and has internalized a lot of the ideas about him being a “bad kid,” but i don’t think he’s actively suicidal. and that’s important to me. it’s important that ronan doesn’t actually want to die. i think he’s struggling to see the point of what everyone wants him to do (school), and struggling to envision a future for himself.
if ANYTHING was going to make ronan suicidal, truly, it should have been the dreamer trilogy. he’s isolated from all of his loved ones, literally starts dying if he’s not careful with the ley lines, and also the world is ending. we can see his same thought patterns repeating (“you’re always the car crash, ronan”) and we see him struggling with reality and identity (every conversation with bryde, who remember is part of ronan’s psyche, and also the looping dream with the mirror). and he’s not suicidal in the dreamer trilogy.
we talk a lot in this fandom about “gansey kind of wanted to live.” i think we should talk about how, despite everything, so did ronan.

random qaf thought i wanted to share
brian kinney was always a very special character for me personally and one particular thing about his writing still feels very dear to me to this day. brian was an openly gay man who always knew who he was, he didn't feel shame about his sexuality, and basically was living his best life as an out and proud queer man (no excuses, no apologies, no regrets etc etc). AND YET he wasn't out to his parents. it was never his intention to come out to them because he knew the exact reaction they would have. brian wasn't scared of their reaction though, he never needed their approval or waited for them to understand him (at least when we meet him in the show (young!brian is a a topic for another discussion though)). brian knew that his coming out would only resolve in useless drama. he didn't owe his parents anything just because they were related by blood. they didn't deserve to have an explanation or to know his truth. that's the point that the show makes with his character: you don't owe people your coming out. (yes, brian did come out to his parents at some point but with his mother it was purely coincidental and imo he wouldn't have came out to his father if debbie hadn't pressured him into doing so)
usually in tv/films we only see closeted queer people (usually teenagers) whos whole story revolves around them being ashamed of their sexuality, being scared about other people finding out their secret, and they also often behave like bullies themselves (chris hobbs moment). they also often outed by someone/forced to come out and end up having to deal with the consequences of them being gay. and yes, storylines like this have a right to exist and there're probably enough people who resonate with these types of stories. but there're other life scenarios too. and brian imo is a great example for people who had/still have to survive in our homophobic world but who know exactly who they are, who don't really struggle with their identity and who are at peace with their sexuality. off the top of my head i can name a number of characters that fit the first description but brian kinney is the only one who fits the second one. (maybe you know other characters with the same attitude but I doubt that anyone has ever openly said the actual words on tv/in films. brian was the blueprint for sure)
to be honest, it was a revelation for a 16 year old me when I first watched the show that you may be confident, out and proud and at the same time you not explaining your sexuality (or gender identity) to random (or not so random) people (proving to cishet people that you are a normal queer™️ OR on the contrary visibly queer enough) doesn't make you any less valid or a liar or a coward. brian being allowed to chose who to share his identity with not out of fear or shame but out of his own free will was and still a very important message to send to queer people everywhere. so many things that were illustrated through brian's character were so true and were ahead of their time imo. there is no one yet to match his level of queer wisdom on tv (and i doubt ther ever will)
I hope this makes sense because idk how to put it more eloquently. I've been thinking about all of this for some time now and wanted to put it somewhere so here you go
