I like a lot of genres of media so understandably my art is all over. people have said this is a great quality, others have trouble pinpointing certain traits about my art, or my interests? and I wish that the things I love were more clear. honestly I feel more like the latter part of a "jack of all trades, master of none" but more like. a little court jester with my jingle hat. in 2023 I'd like to be happier with my art, and draw things that are more interesting/emotional/personal to me! 🏃‍♀️💨

- I love gothic/victorian motifs a lot! overly ornate frames (like haunted portraits), mirrors, flowers, complex drapery, and yes, we can't talk about gothic without the macabre stuff that was present in victorian culture too. sorry for being an edgy 2000s kid but I love skeletons in art... and characters sitting in coffins? chef kiss. Just like. the precarious balance of life and death in art is so genuinely interesting. I once saw in a Waldemar Januszczak art history doc that artists are so unapologetically obsessed with this dark stuff hahaha... 🤧👍 media that come to mind are Ib, Pandora Hearts, Black Butler. non anime media like Dracula, Portrait of Dorian Gray, Sherlock Holmes.

- Theatre/Shakespearean motifs as well. curtains, wooden props, stage sets. Opera, classical Greek theatre, ballet, pantomime, the circus. Shakespearean in the way that the characters are very passionate yet oh so tragic. Like. just in general playing on the idea that stories are plays, and the characters are mere puppets in someone's fabrication. thus things like puppets and clown-type characters in plays are fascinating too. things like, characters as the automatons in automaton clocks are so cool. I also LOVE the concept of dolls, however dolls are? quite frankly? terrifying irl. inspirations: Princess Tutu, lots of tragic stage play themes also present in Jun Mochizuki's work in Pandora Hearts and Vanitas no Carte, Rozen Maiden for the dolls thing.

First category: Texting Fics!

I love text fics because they're usually very fast-paced and easy to read, so I think they might be a good way to combat a reading slump!

You could either go with the iconic Text Talk by merlywhirls (141.250 words), a boarding school AU with a home-schooled, chronically ill Remus, a true classic and the fic that started the whole wolfstar texting fic trend back in the day!

Or, one of my personal favorites from the same era for purely nostalgic reasons, aesthetic: trash boys by Emaly/merlywhirls (89.473 words, everyone is super queer, strong chosen family vibes, with an HIV positive Remus and genderqueer Sirius).

Or if you want a modern text fic classic, there's always Staying Strangers by 3amAndCounting (319.368 words, university AU, this is one of those fics I've reread a couple of times already, just because I love it so much, especially the texting in the beginning).

Snow In June by BrigidFaye (25.561 words) is a magical AU set in the US that also has some texting elements, even though it's not as text-heavy as the fics mentioned above, but the worldbuilding and the setting is wonderful, and lumberjack Remus is everything I ever needed in my life!

Alright, so now the next category is fics with plots that will get you out of any reading slump:

I've recently become obsessed with @lynxindisguise's fics, so I'd also recommend checking out all of them, but since I've mostly recommended longer fics on this list so far, I'll go with a shorter one: in the dark, there is discovery (11.796 words) is a wonderful pirate AU that you can easily read in one evening, and it has beautiful world building, Remus Lupin as a seamonster and my new favorite trope - there was only one hammock.

Let Me Get What I Want (This Time) by Sierra_Sitruc (69.878 words) is a plot-driven and amazing fix-it-fic, that I keep thinking about even months after I've read it, and that had me stay awake at ungodly hours just because I couldn't put it down and wanted to know how it ended!

The Bent by @ebp-brain (40.257 words) is an incredible fic about queer lives, politics and art, oppression and resistance, so if any of those things sound like something you'd enjoy I highly recommend reading it, I always love earlybloomingparentheses' writing, it's so, so beautiful and powerful!

take me as i am (48.494 words) has one of the most unique settings I've ever read - it features Sirius as an (adorable) sleep demon, who is supposed to give Remus nightmares, and I also love the way this fic depicts various mental illnesses.

It's Cold Outside by Remustrash (1.788 words) is a very fluffy and cosy there-was-only-one-bed fic, featuring the most oblivious of all oblivious puppies!

June, and Other Natural Disasters by montparnasse (5.524 words) is a beautifully written fic that made me feel all the feels and has great summer vibes!

The Long Way Home by @hollyivydruzy (177.337 words) is a university AU and the kind of fic I didn't want to ever end, because the characters felt so incredibly real, and it's so easy to get completely immersed and lost in their wonderful, chaotic world and follow along on all their university adventures.

this desperate in love by drowsyanddazed (20.776 words) is a very cute high school AU, and reading it felt like watching a coming of age / teen movie in the best kind of way!

I grabbed Idia's hand! When I first got into TWST, I had absolutely no clue what I was getting into so I really just went based on which voice actors I recognized LOL. I know Kōki Uchiyama from a ton of different anime (JJK, Buddy Daddies, Haikyuu, BNHA, Yuri on Ice, etc.) so I just went with his character. While Idia doesn't crack the top 5 for me, I don't think I'd choose again. The only reason I would is if it impacted the story somehow but I really doubt it will. I'm COMITTED.

Everything about his personality just makes sense when you know his backstory. When we learn that Riddle's tyrant of a mother was strict and controlling over him, the pieces just seem to fall into place. His whole life was just following her rules and studying like a good little boy, and when he stepped out of line even a little bit he was reprimanded harshly for it. Of course, he's going to the exact same thing once he's in a position of power. It's all he knows. He's just another version of his mother. Not only does he uphold the tradition of punishing rule breakers rather severely as he was when he was younger, I think there's also an element of fear there as well. Like, his mother just instilled an innate fear of breaking rules because bad things would happen if he didn't follow them exactly. I really do see Riddle as a scared little boy who is suddenly realizing that he was set up for failure by his own mother. And THEN he makes an honest effort to improve himself post-overblot?? His transformation after the fact is one of the more obvious ones and I'm just so proud of him. A THOUSAND HEAD PATS!! Okay, I'll stop rambling about him lmao I love Riddle sm (Also want to make clear I'm not saying Riddle was right for anything he did, only that I appreciate how his character was handled. Added for legal purposes so people don't come after me :c ) 2. Vil Schoenheit - This one comes as no surprise to me. Pretty boys who challenge gender stereotypes are RIGHT up my alley. Like Riddle, I think Vil has some great character writing is one of the more complex characters in the game. He just feels so compassionate to me?? I don't know how to explain it - he just gives such nurturing vibes. I'd trust this man with my drink at a bar fr fr. And then he tells Epel off for saying ballet is too "girly" for him?? Thank you TWST for bringing me this man. I pray at the altar of Vil Schoenheit. 3. Malleus Draconia - Doesn't Malleus top everyone's lists LOL I think my favoritism for the dragon man is more to do with his relationship with Yuu than anything else tbh. He's like one of three characters that actively engages with the main character and I think they've got such a fun relationship. Two people who feel very alone in the world finding friendship (or something more for you malleyuu shippers) in each other is so beautiful. I'm glad they can be there for each other like that. Side note: I adore romantic Malleyuu for sure, but I think it's equally as endearing if all of Malleus's flirtatious lines were never meant to be romantic but he's just really bad at communicating his feelings in a platonic way. Like, he doesn't mean to flirt he's just socially inept. 4. Ruggie Bucchi - Gremlin hyena boy is just too good for words. Ngl, I started off not really liking Ruggie all that much because of what he did in the Savanaclaw book. My mans was basically shoving people down flights of stairs?? I'm not really sure where the turn around happened tbh. Mischievous personality types do tend to draw me in in fiction so that probably has a lot to do with it. I also felt really bad for him at the end of the Savanaclaw book when Leona was ready to Thanos him out of existence despite everything Ruggie had done for him (and continues to do for him). I appreciate his work ethic, I can respect the hustle, and he's got such a cute little laugh. I wanna pet those big ole ears of his. Leona - pay this man more smh 5. Kalim Al-Asim - SUNSHINE BOY!!

He's such a breath of fresh air in this game LMAO. As much as I love the fact that most of the cast are unapologetically flawed, it's nice to have a few characters that are genuinely good people. His VA (Kazuki Furuta) absolutely kills it imo. I can hear his laugh in my head as I'm typing this - it's just so warm and happy :D He also breaks the sterotype of most rich characters in media by just being a nice person? There's a post (there is ALWAYS a post) that is something like "...maybe we're all just saying this is how feel about this, do you also feel that way..." And I love that, whether it is just sharing shitposts, or the Beastie Boys, or ducks, or something heartfelt and personal. We in some ways just want to see who else feels that way. You know? The anonymity of this place changes the dynamic compared to other social channels and I love that about this place.

hey sex witch! love and appreciate your sex ed posts and the resources you've shared. i noticed that you've answered some asks about becoming more comfortable with expressing sexual attraction, and finding ways to see yourself as desirable -- i was wondering if you had any similar thoughts about becoming more comfortable with other people expressing attraction to you, especially verbally. it's something i'd really like to start enjoying in a casual way (i'm more okay with it within a long-term relationship or a kink dynamic, partly because it's something i can negotiate), but it's pretty consistently something that feels "off" for me and kills my interest. i don't want to react that way! i actively want to enjoy it, especially with people i otherwise like and connect with, and i feel like i might enjoy it a lot someday if the circumstances were right or if i changed my mindset/framing. plus, i know that i really like complimenting people i'm attracted to (if i know that they like it and i know what it means to them), and i'd like that to be a mutual thing.

to be clear, i haven't experienced sexual trauma, i'm nondysphoric (transmasc), and i'd say that i really like my appearance (in a nonsexual/aesthetic sense), so i think i can rule out a few of the common reasons that people feel this way. others have suggested that i might be aspec/demisexual when i've talked about my experiences, but i've gone through that particular questioning process before (and identified as aroace/"not interested" for most of my life), and i feel like it's probably something else.

i think a significant part of the problem is that when people have flirted with me/said that i'm physically attractive, they've usually referenced beauty standards that i'm both very opposed to and which are at odds with my sexuality and what i see as beautiful. i'm a guy who's always been viewed as thin and as having a "conventionally androgynous" (?) body type, and i've generally been attracted to people with body types and/or presentations that are noticeably different from mine -- that includes feminine-presenting people, fat and chubby people, and trans and gnc people who present in ways that combine masculinity and femininity. i've pretty much never been attracted to men who look like me. but when people compliment me on my appearance, they often compliment my body type or size directly or indirectly, and i feel like there's a certain undertone of "i'm labeling you as attractive because you don't look like Those People." i don't want to be around that attitude, and i don't find it flattering or "nice."

i generally wouldn't want to assume that a person who uses these compliments actually has extremely normative views on sex, is fatphobic, etc., and i believe that attraction is morally neutral no matter what your "type" is. it's not like i don't have specific preferences myself, though i probably have some biases that i'm not yet aware of. the whole idea of people being attracted to you because of aspects of your appearance that you didn't choose is...inherently messy, i think. i also know that in most cases, i can just leave, or ask people not to talk about me in these terms. but i still find the whole thing alienating and off-putting, to such an extent that i feel disconnected from most discussions and portrayals of sexuality, especially re: attraction to men. and that's on top of having to deal with the very common assumption that it's a universal experience for women and trans people to hate their bodies and want certain types of validation (but that's kind of a separate issue that i won't get into here).

do you have any thoughts on how to navigate this? i feel like i might be missing something important, but maybe i just need to understand and accept what doesn't work for me.

if I'm reading this right sounds like what you're experiencing isn't an issue of disliking compliments because you lack self esteem, but disliking compliments that are focusing on your body in ways that you don't enjoy. the problem in this scenario really isn't on your end. no matter how well-meaning people might be, you're not under any obligation to make yourself enjoy compliments that make you uneasy, and I'm certainly not going to be the person who tries to tell you how considering I operate my own life almost entirely around the notion that if it sucks, one must hit da bricks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay I've listened to Lucky again repeatedly, first because it is an absolute bop.. what an aesthetic song! I'm so in love with it and second, because the lyrics are so intriguing to me. They're so beautiful and creates such visuals and images with it. After lots of thoughts, I have come to the conclusion that the 'you' louis is singing about actually just him, his past self. It makes so much sense to me.. "you give and until its gone away" is actually on theme with louis' own' story.. the kind of anxieties he must have felt when he was younger and subjected to the cruelty that happened to him. Feels like his present self is reassuring his past. And the main reason why I think it's about himself is because of the lyrics "I see how hard you've worked to be yourself" and my god has louis done just that. He has always fought and worked to be himself, not just in his career, in wanting to make the music that he likes (which he has been very open about in his interviews) but also on his personal life, in his personality. He was always portrayed in a certain image that was not him and yet he always fought that, him describing himself as flamboyant when they tried to make him look like a laddy lad or whatever, him wearing clothes that are subversive and true to his self like polari and so many others. Him being obviously trained to change his mannerisms but his natural flamboyance just come through when he is on stage, especially during LTWT.. like this is just one aspect of what that lyric means to me and makes sense to me. Along with his music and art which he has worked so hard to be true to himself. This song is definitely about him. He is saying his past self that he got lucky once and fought through his struggles and it's absolutely possible for him to get through this even now (lucky again).

Also Louis has said that he writes songs which could be about something else "dressed up as a love song" which is why I will refrain from reducing Lucky to just being about a relationship or a partner. Obviously I'd like to do a better, in depth analysis, cause I am so fascinated by how layered this song is but these are just my initial and immediate thoughts after listening to it on a loop. I usually need a little bit of time to really let the lyrics sink in and have an opinion about it, but I'm very inclined to agree with you, actually. I don't think this is a love song (well kind of), I think he's talking about struggles of his career and just life in general, not love life. The beginning really has the same energy of Copy Of and Changes for me - about looking back and being nostalgic and almost giving a piece of advice for his past self that was clearly struggling a lot.

However from the second verse on, he uses "we" and "us" a lot and even "you" and "I" in a way that truly doesn't come across like he's talking about himself in the past / present, there's a subject in the song. Which leads me to this other interpretation here:

And it's funny because I noticed that there's a pattern here between Harry and Louis' songs. The line between work, their life together and struggles of finding their feet as human beings, in general, are very very blurred. See more on my HABIT analysis and MFASR analysis. They go back and forth about their careers and life together as a couple like it's all essentially the same, often still talking about their careers as a unit. And that's incredibly interesting.

As the first anon was saying, I think Louis went through a lot of anxiety at some point and he struggled a lot to find himself again. He talks so much about running out of energy, being lost looking for something, for some kind of "high", he talks about shutting people out, and then about building his confidence again, about being brave, fearless.... And all that struggle affected all the areas of his life, career, love life, everything.

So I do think that being "lucky again" is about just finding himself again. On everything. There's this really nice parallel with Fireproof that I'm obsessed. I think I feel very similarly about the two songs. In Fireproof he was already struggling, desperately trying to find something to hold on to. And eventually, he did. It was someone that got him out of that place, love was always his "way out".

while i don’t think he was bisexual, i’m sure he felt at least some level of attraction to other men, even just as a “that’s a good-looking guy” type of thing. his comfortability with queer men (friendships with little richard, liberace, etc) indicates he was confident in his own sexuality, at least for the most part. apparently he did experience a bit of gay panic, though.

This story about hiis gay panic doesn't surprise me at all, I am just kind of surprised Guralnick doesn't talk about it because of how thoroughly he researched any mention of Elvis in the press, interviewed people, and read many of the other bios... or maybe I shouldn't be, as revered as that book set is, I do feel like a lot of the sexual stuff is tamped down or ignored... I'll add that there are more books that I haven't read than those I have, still very much a work in progress here.

From the books I have read, though, Elvis is sort of painted as not confiding or talk to male friends in-depth about personal stuff, and characterized as being discouraged from having relationships with other actors in Hollywood. But again, these are impressions I've gotten mainly based on accounts from the mafia so I guess thanks to the anon for helping facilitate my deeper education on Elvis' sexuality.

38. He definitely does believe in love at first sight, he's.... an incurable romantic, it's one of the things I tease him about. I don't, I think that love is a lot of work and commitment that doesn't happen all at once. I don't think that either of us believe in soulmates, though. The world is too complicated for something like that.

11. An overlooked trait that I love about him... is that it's very hard to get him out of performance mode. He's always trying to project one character or another, and I think that it's easy to take him at face value, because he's flashy and impulsive and it's hard to pick apart where exactly the performance stops reflecting his reality. If that makes any sense at all. I love that my job is to break down that performance.

As for a trait he loves about me... I think it would probably be my attentiveness. I've got a good sense of when his mood shifts, but even more importantly I have a good sense of the people around us. It's not quite one of his skills, reading the room (an understatement), so we make a good team on that front.

27. On a scale of 1-10, he's an 11 on the sentimental scale. He struggles with getting rid of presents from people he's fallen out with. Hi anon, thanks! I had a lot of fun writing them, and I'm so glad you enjoy them! Rambly thoughts under the cut:

(I'm like a lot of people, where I've got a bunch of different versions of each character in my head. So not all headcanons are from the same version/verse.)

Leon tends to go the extra mile to be chivalrous. At first he wanted to be as cuddly as she can be as Lucy (and sometimes he could be!), but some of it is just… a lot. And Alex and Maggie start to notice when he's there but not present and they're finally like, "what's wrong? Because you forcing yourself to do something you assume we want actually doesn't make us feel good." So they actually talk and figure out what works for everyone (for Leon, it's the full contact cuddling that makes him uncomfortably aware; touch that's less overwhelming is still good and he still wants that). So aside from physical affection, he really likes being able to show affection through chivalry, with the bonus being that he likes being able to express his masculinity that way too. (And as far as director sanvers goes, the way it ends up going is that they all take turns doing things for each other and making each other feel special.)

That said, Leon does get a lot more comfortable with physical intimacy after top surgery. There are still times when the most he wants is to be shoulder to shoulder on the couch, of course. But he likes how he can wrap his arms around Alex and Maggie without feeling dysphoric, how having someone rest their head on his chest feels euphoric and more intimate than it ever has. The flip side is that cuddling with breast forms feels different when she wears them, but it's not that big a deal because it's mostly an aesthetic thing for her - she has some tops and dresses that just work best with some boob.

Sort of an addendum to the chivalry point above: when it comes to rowdy or confrontational strangers, Lucy can be more likely to engage and push back, especially early on. The calculation of how safe that is (even though he's just as capable of defending himself) is a little different for Leon: him being read (correctly) as a man might mean someone is quicker to violence, and someone might read him as relatively more gender nonconforming and take that as an invitation as well. Of course Lucy isn't exempt from targeted harassment, and verbal harassment can be more common, but Lucy has had more practice dealing with that type. Leon would rather prioritize safety since it can be harder to read the situation. (That said, I sometimes envision Lucy on low dose T and more masc presenting, and in those cases, this distinction doesn't exist quite like that, and can even flip.)

@endersbegin and I have talked about Lucy using pressure for comfort, and then @nerdsbianhokie happened to write a super sweet fic with ace!Lucy and a weighted blanket, so that's been folded into my headcanon for genderfluid!Lucy too. It's one of their go-tos when the dysphoria etc makes touch off putting.

There's a different energy Lucy brings when she dances compared to Leon. It's always energetic, always liberating, always themself—but he likes how even with the same choreo, he can change just a few things about how he moves his body—more precision in his torso in one place, looser with his arms in another—it fits how he wants to express himself.

And just in terms of like, day to day how Leon acts, I don't really see him being distinctly different (especially since I don't headcanon Lucy as conforming to female gender norms all that much, even though she does in some aspects). There are differences I've mentioned here and written about, obviously, like different boundaries with touch and differences in gender presentation. But like. I think Lucy struggles at first and worries about over/under performing gender and what that all means and whether they should be doing things differently, but eventually they're just like. "No matter what I think, there are genders I feel intrinsically and they change over time. And there are things I can do to feel more at peace with myself as they change. So I should just do those things, regardless of how stereotypically masculine or feminine those things are." So sure, Leon does usually get euphoria from stereotypically masculine things, and vice versa, but also, at the end of the day, they just want to be happy as themself, and that's easier when they feel free to fuck with gender norms. They want their gender acknowledged, definitely, that's so important for them—they just don't want expectations for how that should look. And as it turns out, the way they behave isn't strongly tied to their gender. (And Alex and Maggie will be like, yeah you're equally ridiculous regardless of gender (affectionate) lol)

Pacifica, as mentioned in one of the fics, is majoring in botany. Scott helps pay her college tuition, and Pacifica just doesn't question where the money comes from. Plausible deniability and all that.

She and Scott have sleepovers a lot. He spends more time at her apartment than his own house, to be honest. They braid each other's hair and paint one another's nails and gossip. Sometimes Sausage is invited as well. (I've talked about this before but I'm doing this again because I love it and think it's adorable)

Pacifica... also doesn't have a lot of friends. She has her partner, Scott, and Lilac (sort of), and that's about it. Other than a couple acquaintances made from group projects in her classes and the like, she doesn't really interact much with others.

Scott is definitely the "She ordered no pickles" in their relationship.

Pacifica definitely dresses pretty nerdy. My default outfit for her is a turtleneck longsleeve shirt, a pink and yellow sweater vest over that, a pale yellow pleated skirts, leg warmers, and pink convers. She also has glasses but prefers contacts.

Because she sticks to a certain aesthetic, she tends to get a bit more attention than normal, which can make her nervous. Scott was the one to encourage her to dress how she wanted, at one point even dragging her into a clothing store and making her try on everything her gaze lingered on for more than five seconds.

He also buys her a ton of really cute and obscure earrings (you know, like the ones made out of random objects) because she likes them a lot but is usually too shy to buy or wear them herself.

Platonic attraction/squishes: This can feel very similar to romantic attraction and have a lot of the same symptoms, but doesn't feel romantic at all. Instead you want to be close to the other person, or be important them.

Aesthetic attraction: Basically being drawn to someone on an aesthetic level, and strong desire to look at or study the other person. Sometimes this attraction is described as being similar to a particularly moving piece of art or looking at something particularly beautiful.

Sensual attraction: a desire to connect in a tactile way with other people. Especially in a way that feels sensual like touching, cuddling, smelling, etc.

There's other types of tertiary but these are some of the more common ones (if you want to explore attraction in more detail, the LGBTIA Wiki has a great page on it.)

But yeah, it definitely sounds from this ask like you are experiencing some kind of attraction, so looking into attraction and different types of attraction may be helpful. One of the most helpful tricks for telling attraction apart is asking yourself what is the attraction making you want? Or what kind of pull are you feeling? Imagine different scenarios and see which one holds the most appeal to you.

Romance in general is tricky because it's not very well defined and it's very often described as 'you know it when you feel it'. Unlike sex where, while there may be some gray areas, people generally do agree on what sex is or isn't, there aren't really an actions that are always romance. Holding hands, giving people flowers, etc can all be romantic actions, but also can be platonic depending on the scenario.

So how do you know if your feelings are romantic or not? Romantic feelings feel romantic (which is so useless, right?). But there is an actual romantic feeling that makes people want to be in a relationship labeled as romantic or do actions or be in scenarios they view as romantic. Romantic people will often have scenarios that just feel romantic to them too that they'll want to play out with the people they're attracted to.

So if the idea of something feeling romantic, or having romantic scenarios in your head feels foreign to you, that could be a sign what you're experiencing isn't romantic. Similarly if you're attracted to someone, but would be happy in a relationship not defined as romantic, that could be another strong sign.

It's not always clear cut what is romantic feelings or not either, there are gray areas. Since you mention a few times that romance and friendship feel the same to you internally, I'd also suggest looking into these two labels:

Idemromantic: Someone who categorizes relationships as romantic or platonic but experiences no internal differences.

Platoniromantic: When someone experiences no difference between romantic and platonic attraction.

One last thing, based on how you describe relationships, have you looked into or heard about QPRs, Anon? QPR stands for queerplatonic relationship (sometimes also called quasiplatonic relationships or quirklyplatonic relationships). And that just means a realtionship that isn't easily categorized by romance or friendship. And they can be tailored to the people in the relationship and include the things they want but not what they don't want. If you really want a relationship but romantic relationships aren't working out for you or feeling right, this may be worth looking into. And you can have committed long term relationships in QPRs too.

So this is a lot of information, and it may take you a bit of time to go through it and process it. You don't have to figure everything out right away. But hopefully it gives you some direction to go in and some things to look into.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what other people have told you up until now, other people can't interpret your internal feelings, only you can do that. And both the aromantic and romantic spectrum are quite broad, and people can experience both in a lot of different ways.

Try and trust your own internal feelings and interpretations and go with what makes sense to you or what way of looking at things is useful for you. And frankly sometimes these things are a bit subjective anyways.

I just realize that it would help me if I do the same (because of Tumblr's phone format). This is really clever. Can you tell me exactly what is the size of these margins?

Also, do you have any useful tips like that that could help me as a new author on Tumblr? What do you do exactly when you are ready to post a story? (Headliners, image, etc.)

I'd be happy to share more of my process in case it helps you with anything. Though just a quick disclaimer: this is how I do things, and isn't universal or for everyone.

With that being said, info dump under the cut!

1.) writing the thing✨

For brainstorming ideas, I use the notes app on my phone. For the fics themselves, I write on google docs! I like it because it works both on my phone and pc.

I have a specific format, but it's not actually the margins that I change. I write with the pages halved using columns! These are how my files look like on pc:

You can do this by going Format > Columns > 2! I like to write in TNR 12 like a research paper lol. (Though, I can't remember if you can do the columns on the docs app, because everything looks like it's just one column there. But once you set a doc in this format, you can just duplicate the file and it'll still show up with columns on pc.)

Like you said, this helps me gauge how a fic will look like on mobile, since that's where most people are reading. It also helps my peace of mind since a full, blank page without columns can be a bit intimidating. It can feel like you have to fill up the entire thing, when you really don't!

Another brilliant thing about google docs (on pc) is that, if you use italics or bold in the file, when you copy paste it onto Tumblr, it retains those italics and bolds. This saves me so much headache and I consider it a lifesaver.

2.) formatting (and by extension, branding)✨

I feel like this is really vital on Tumblr, since an established aesthetic can help readers remember and recognize your blog better. My advice would be to pick one or two colors and always use them on your posts.

You can also pick an emoji and use that with your aesthetic! For example, I associate the sunflower emoji 🌻 with the wonderful @songsofadelaide. (hi Mari! hihi)

If you want to use them, have a default divider. Mine is just a png of a blue line haha, but you can get creative with it. Though I suggest you keep the photo thin so that it doesn't eat up too much space.

Off the top of my head, I think the most important things on a post are: the title, header, and preview. (I'll make a separate point for preview since it's a lot.)

TITLE : Self explanatory!

HEADER : A header does more than make the post look pretty, it helps you differentiate fics when Tumblr only shows you the fic thumbnails on archive or on notifs. I have a folder of manhwa screenshots that I save for headers, and I add an overlay with my blog's signature color using a drawing app. Gifs are also fine as headers, though I don't personally use them because gifs make Tumblr crash on my phone sfhlsdjfkl, but that's just me!

3.) the preview ✨

(I don't think preview is the official term for this, but it's what I've started to call it.)

When I say preview, I'm talking about everything below the header and above the fic. Mine looks like this:

It's up to you what you want to add, but I would say to always keep the blurb/short summary, genre, and word count. Everything else is optional, and you can play with whatever suits your style best.

For the blurb, you can go one of two ways: keep it short, or go more in-depth with the summary.

If you keep it short: One sentence is the best, but two should also be okay. It doesn't have to summarize the whole fic, but give a preview of what readers can expect from your work. I use my blurbs to hook in readers, then use the content notes to make up for what I didn't add in the blurb. If you go in-depth: This would be a standard summary, and you can get away with not needing content notes.

AH. Can't believe I almost forgot, but always add warnings and MDNI tags if your fic needs them! (Some people also use a banner for warnings. Search 'mdni banner' on Tumblr and you'll see examples.)

Once you have a preview format you want to stick with, always use it and keep it consistent! I have a draft with just my preview format so I can just copy paste it whenever I post a new fic.
