— Esu Emmanuel©, I understand that beautiful words attract, that is why I stopped writing them, because writing is not about attracting, but about evoking and projecting what one carries in one's soul, be it beautiful or horrendous. Then, the right eyes will arrive, ready to feel what has been written, either because they feel identified, defined or simply -and naturally- attracted.

My favourite written Alex interview is the one from the Telegraph where he had to answer questions via email because he was basically incoherent when he was interviewed after a TLSP show. This last part is so so good

IRL Alex would never be able to say any of these things as coherently as he does here so I’m really glad he took the time to write back to the interviewer.
There’s a video interview on YouTube i think it’s with Stijn from Studio Brussels in 2018 where he comments that often people ask him about the lyrics and writing but don’t really want ‘to get into it’ they just want to know the ‘names and addresses’ of whoever they think he’s writing about. I always found that funny because when Martin was interviewing him and Miles in 2016 for FaceCulture Alex gets snarky and jokes that Martin wants to know the names and addresses of the people in the songs. But it’s also a little sad because I get the impression that he really does want to go into it, especially if he can sense the interviewer will actually care to listen and also be patient with him. BASICALLY what I’m trying to say is that Alex actually really likes talking about writing but it’s either that the interviewers aren’t that interested (don’t ask the right questions) or that he literally can’t verbally communicate his thoughts in the way he wants (very relatable). In this interview though he actually really gets into it and the metaphors he uses are so vivid and visual it makes me want to go off on a tangent about the way he translates the images in his head into lyrics (but that’s probably for another day). Honestly wonder how long he’d been developing this metaphor for the relationship between lyrics and melody, but ultimately I’m really grateful that he shared this when he did.
Also this part at the start is so
Tumblr media
I always got the impression from his interviews that Alex ‘rehearses’ or at least meticulously plans what he’s going to say, because he’s an expert at not always answering questions directly but still pushing the conversation forward towards what he actually wants to say. So the whole ‘internal cue cards’ thing makes a lot of sense to me. Sometimes I wish he’d be more spontaneous or he’d do more ‘fun’ interviews, but then I remember that when Jo Whiley did a quick fire round with Alex and Matt, Alex could barely answer any of the questions. So I guess the internal cue cards are a good idea!

As I was writing yesterday I realized that because written word does not include tone there's something I know about my story but I'm not entirely sure anybody else does.
So, Eugene uses the nickname princess for both girls, Rapunzel and Cassandra. However, he uses it different, with Rapunzel it's almost always said softly, it's a sweet pet name just like Sunshine or Blondie.
But with Cassandra it's usually meant to be teasing, probably the syllables are ever so slightly drawn out. He finds it funny the warrior girl would hold a title so soft and regal as princess.
Anyway, just a thought. I love writing, obviously I can't describe the exact way Eugene says princess each and every time he does it, and I wonder if the audience picks up on this intent or if it's only in my head?
And I wonder what small details other authors enact in their mind but we never see in words? I wonder what details readers make in their heads that we aren't aware of?
I love the art of writing.

A Regular Night at Dee Dee’s (TW: blood, guns)
Sarah entered the restaurant hesitantly, Creepy animatronics on all sides seemed to stare at her. What made it worse was that she was alone. It was 6 am and the restaurant had not opened yet. Suddenly a man had came out of the employees only room. ‘’Oh, hello there! So, you’re the new kid, eh? I’m Walter! I’m just finishin’ up my shift.’’ He jogged to the door as if he were trying to get away from the young girl. ‘’See ya!’’ Sarah just stood there puzzled. What was she going to again? Ah yes, she headed over to her office and sat down on the chair and quickly fell asleep.
Hours Later
A bell rung as speakers announced the restaurant’s closing for the day. She sprung awake as she looked at the clock. Only a few more hours to go. She heard animatronics groaning as she stretched. What the-? She walked out of her office and towards the animatronics…they weren’t there, they looked like they had been moved. Where could have they gone? She heard rustling from the employee’s only door. She raised an eyebrow and headed over there. As she entered, she heard a splash, Sarah looked down and saw a red liquid dripping from her leather boots. Her eyes widened as she slowly turned her head to look forward. Bloody animatronics surrounded her. She could not even begin to think about what to do until she heard police sirens and people banging on the restaurant doors. Why were they bloody? There weren’t any bodies visible? Heavy footsteps could be heard stomping towards the employee’s only door. She looked at her bloody hand, it must have been from opening the door handle. The door suddenly flew open as she looked behind her to see almost a dozen policemen with large guns. It had just hit her; she had been framed.

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

— Esu Emmanuel©️, I work with my imagination, my emotions, my feelings, my beliefs... In other words, everything I evoke on the white sheet, under the premise of literature, comes from me. I have learned, as I have experienced the world, that art must be respected, therefore you have to work alone or, in special cases, work in collaboration with other artists similar to you, since not everyone will be able to understand your point of view. Writing is already an art that uses introspection to be worked on, finding other thinkers with the same introspective depth is not easy.

I don't think many people realize how much they've been turned into a bunch of casually cynical jerks.
Someone may come to their parents and say "I want to write a book" and their parents will say "it's really hard to get published".
Someone might confide in their sibling and say "I want to sell my art on "x" platform" and that sibling will say "do you know how many people you'd be competing with? Do you know how many shops are even on that platform?"
I know a kid who once told his best friend "I think I wanna start a dnd podcast" and the friend was like "do you know what the word "oversaturation" means?"
Personally, I don't know why any of that matters? And even if it did, perhaps your response should be "Do it! Do it and see where it goes!"

what artists dont tell you is that every compliment is actually 100 compliments because they'll go back to re-read it 100 times and it'll make them feel fuzzy all over again every single time
