The hopclair hug at the end of vol 2 GETS me, for two main reasons:
1. the look Lucas gives her beforehand.
2. El's face during the hug.
The first one especially gets me, because Lucas, without knowing El was there with him that night, gives her this look of true understanding.
He doesn't know that she tried just as he did to save Max. He doesn't know that she holds just as much guilt as he does over her current condition. He doesn't know the many reasons as to why what they are feeling is so similar in that moment.
All he knows is that El cares about Max just as much as he does, and that she must be feeling just as awful as he is. In his mind, their only point of connection is their love for Max, and he's right. Their shared love for Max is what motivated them to try as hard as they possibly could to protect her. It's what fuels their guilt over their "failure" to do so.
Lucas knows that he misses Max, and he knows that El does too, and that knowledge is enough.
It's enough for him to find more comfort in the girl who he met less than three years ago, than he does in the two boys he's known almost his entire life. The two boys he met long before the name Max first entered his minds.
Because they don't understand. They can't. Not the way El does.

A Haunted House With A Picket Fence
by aryanightshade
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Archive Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson, Steve Harrington & Eddie Munson, Chrissy Cunningham & Eddie Munson, Robin Buckley & Steve Harrington Characters: Eddie Munson, Steve Harrington, Maxine "Max" Mayfield, Dustin Henderson, Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, Robin Buckley, Nancy Wheeler, Will Byers, Erica Sinclair, Eleven | Jane Hopper, Jim "Chief" Hopper Additional Tags: Past Steve Harrington/Nancy Wheeler, Past Jonathan Byers/Steve Harrington/Nancy Wheeler, Kid Fic, Miscarriage, Bisexual Steve Harrington, Implied/Referenced Drug Addiction, Past Drug Use, Alternate Universe - No Upside Down (Stranger Things), Autistic Eddie Munson, Autistic Eleven | Jane Hopper, Past Chrissy Cunningham/Eddie Munson, Eddie and Chrissy being each other's beards, they really committed to the bit on that one lol, Steve Harrington Has a Crush on Eddie Munson, Hard of Hearing Steve Harrington, Meet Stupid, Good Babysitter Steve Harrington, Mutual Pining, Past Abuse, I continue to push the sapphic Chrissy Cunningham agenda, this is somehow the most complex family tree in existence, this was supposed to be light and cute and i dont know what the hell happened, Eddie likes watching people out his window, Frogs, Cute Kids, Steddie Big Bang 2023 (Stranger Things) Words: 66,236 Chapters: 6/6
Summary
Eddie Munson is no stranger to bad choices. It’s how he ended up a single father selling drugs to keep him and his kid clothed and fed. Dumb choices have him fleeing Chicago in the middle of the night and renting a place in his shitty hometown in Indiana while he plans his next move. It’s also how he ends up asking his stupidly hot neighbor to babysit his daughter while he goes on a last-minute job interview, and much to his surprise, stupid-hot neighbor agrees. And it turns out he’s not just handsome, but funny, a great cook, he loves Eddie’s weirdo kid, and may just be the love of Eddie’s life. If only starting over and escaping his past was that easy.

Maxwell Appreciation and HCs
This is my submission for day one of Maxwell Beaumont Appreciation Week.
Tumblr media
What I love about Max: his loyalty, his sense of humor, and his ability to emphasize with others.
Max is the best friend you could want and when I don’t write him as an LI for Riley, I make him her best friend and found family (the brother she never had).
I’ve also written a friendship that I absolutely love between him and Hana in Hinge, a series where they are both queer, both live or practically live at Valtoria with Riley, Drake, and Liam (who are in a hinge relationship).
If you’ve played the game you already know he’s funny.
Empathy: Come on. He watched Liam with MC for one night and knew what had to be done. Throughout the original story, he demonstrates high levels of empathy toward others. Look at the lengths he went to in order to help Savannah.
My HC’s about Max:
For some reason, I see him as either gay or bisexual. I have never written him as straight. In any universe he isn’t a LI for MC, I usually make him gay and if MC is with Drake and not Liam, I generally put Liam and Max together.
I also see him as more serious than the later books made him seem. He’s been through a lot in his life and I think he uses humor as a coping mechanism, not because he’s shallow.
I see Max as kind, gentle, loving, and considerate and that goes for all his relationships with family and friends as well as romantic partners.
I’m not going to lie, I never saw him as a serious LI until I wrote him as one in Bad Romance. It was supposed to be just one chapter then he was going to be out, but I loved his dynamic with Riley and here we are. As a LI he brings a lot to the table. He is devoted, loyal, and never toxically jealous.
He’s a good dancer in a sexy way, not a ridiculous way.
He’s domestic. In Bad Romance/Bad Parenting, I have the other members of the polycule busy with high-stress jobs: King, Queen, Captain of the Queen’s Guard, and best legal counsel in Cordonia. Max is the one that enjoys cooking for everyone and is the one that most frequently stays home with the kids.
I did give Max a job too, but it’s nurturing in a lot of ways: First assistant and top advisor to the queen. I think he has mad organizational skills (those Beaumont bashes didn’t schedule, plan, decorate and throw themselves) and he brings those skills to play organizing Riley’s life, and he does it not just because it’s his job, but as an act of love/service/devotion. It makes her less stressed and frazzled when her color-coded agenda is next to her plate at breakfast. And that’s why he puts it there because it makes her happy and he loves her.
Max is the peacekeeper, he wants everyone to get along and be happy and always does his best to make sure that happens.
He’s a good dad, but sometimes too permissive. He believes in letting kids be themselves and is really good at comforting them and playing with them.
He’s a writer (obviously)
He probably has ADHD. Yep.
He plays guitar and can run a DJ booth.
He drives a red Ferrari spider.
He’s obsessed with squids.
He was on the Cordonian National Fencing team with Liam and Drake. (That'll be explained in Hinge)

Welcome to my Bisexual Max Mayfield TedTalk.
She got bullied for kissing a girl. My proof? None. But consider: she has no friends from California, no one she talks to, no one she even thinks about. Absolutely no fond memory with her peers that could beat out Mike not being rude for the first time. None that could even begin to compete with El who she spent less than a summer with?
No 13-14 year old “tomboy” not-like-other-girls #skatergirl would be that immediately fond of El and have THAT many rainbows. Idgaf if it’s the 80s she has the rainbows for the vibes and the vibe is bisexuality

Pride Month Book Recs!
Tumblr media
This month is Pride Month! To celebrate, I though I’d share a collection of LGBTQIA+ biographies, novels, graphic novels, and poems! (I’ve also starred my personal favourites, or book I think everyone should read!) Remember to check trigger warnings before buying a book, and to support LGBTQIA+ and POC authors! I’ll be tagging a few people who gave me some of these recs at the bottom of this post. If there’s anything incorrect or offensive featured on this list, let me know and I’ll remove it! Enjoy! Also, I made the header myself! I’m very proud.
Now is also a good time to mention that if you’re an exclusionist, a ‘super straight’, a MAP, or a homophobe/transphobe of any shape or form, I hope you choke on glass. You are not welcome on this blog. Leave, and never interact with me again.

You are loved, and you are welcome here, always. Happy Pride Month! Stay Safe! <3

I’d like to hear more about your bisexual Carlos agenda if your willing to share 👀
omg yes of course! it’s my favourite thing to talk about (next to my bi!daniel agenda)
disclaimer: i’m not trying to force sexuality on anyone, this is all hypothetical, take it with a grain of salt etc etc
ok so, as a bisexual myself, i just feel like carlos gives off such INTENSE bi energy and i have since the moment i got into formula 1. like i was instantly drawn to him and i feel like that’s why. bi’s supporting bi’s 💗💜💙
anyway a lot of it (for me) stems from the way he’s so inherently comfortable touching men— i feel like that’s a given, but also the fact he’s so comfortable complimenting them as well? (re: lando whenever he does literally anything) none of the straight guys i know would ever do shit like that and i come from a friendship group of very affectionate men.
plus the way he LOOKS at other men literally blows my mind. like he literally wants to devour them. like obviously he looks at lando like he hung the moon and all the stars but charles as well? max? nico? LEWIS? idk something about it has always stood out to me.
anyway
in my version of events carlos realises he’s bi at like 14-15 when he’s at a pool party or something. all his friends are talking about whichever girl was the first to grow boobs or whatever and carlos is thinking ok yeah boobs are nice but also there’s a guy there with abs and he thinks oh that’s also nice.
i also feel like he comes to terms with it pretty quickly and he’s not ashamed by it, per say, but it’s not like he’s running round with a bi pride flag because he knows his family has a reputation to uphold and he’s scared he’ll mess something up for them. and on that note i feel like he doesn’t tell his parents, but his sisters and close friends know and they’re supportive.
so he starts fucking both girls and guys, and in his mind he’s like why wouldn’t i be bisexual? girls? hot. guys? hot. double the dating/fucking pool. it’s simple mathematics! everyone should be bisexual!
also there’s this old interview where the guy straight up asks carlos if he’s gay and carlos goes “no. obviously.” why obviously??? what’s obvious about it? what are you hiding?
also he can’t sit in chairs properly

Like everybody else here, I've always loved Jalex. But I also have a soft spot for Max and how he fits with/feels about their relationship. Like, on one hand, Max being their biggest supporter, pushing them together, helping hide their relationship from their parents. On the other hand, Max feeling weirdly jealous because they're so close and maybe sometimes he wishes they'd look at him the way they look at each other?? (Basically, I'm here for the disaster bisexual Max and J/A/M agenda, lol)
That's a fun take, Anon.
I love the idea of Max being jealous.

Hi! Would you say David was obsessed with Michael or had real feelings for him? I saw a girl talking once about how David, even after his brothers getting killed, still talks to Michael to "stop fighting him" and still asks him to join them. I was thinking about that and I wondered if this was just a form to David to tricky him again or he was really trying to convince Michael to give up and stay with him? And if so, would it be because of feelings or because he hates to not get what he wants?
Real talk? 100% honest opinion? David is a repressed bisexual wreck and this movie is as gay as the Fourth of July.
Now I feel like I’ve touched on this a little bit in some of these previous “deep dive” questions (thank you guys so much for continuing to send me these I swear I am on cloud nine right now) but honestly what I personally feel the characters themselves would realistically do/feel/how they would react to things as real beings with complex emotions/backstories, and how this 1h 38m horror/comedy movie treats their reactions are not the same thing.
Look, as much as we love the characters and as writers and fans have expanded on them as much as we can and actually care about them as individual characters with like, actual thoughts and feelings--they’re the monster antagonists of the film. This was also the 80s. They’re not really meant to have complex motivations.
Even when I read the prequel script Schumacher literally cares so little about developing the personalities of the other lost boys that aren’t David he just kind of throws their names in at random when they have to talk, and I know that because at the end when the fifth lost boy that was just in the prequel script had died, they still gave him a line postmortem because they literally don’t care who says the line--they just plug their names in at random.
All the personality we get for the other boys comes 100% from the actors, from how they developed their characters. Yes, they get direction and I’m sure Schumacher had an idea of what he wanted for each one, but I think it was only at a surface level (I would murder someone for a copy of Lost in the Shadow so I could read more about this, but c'est la vie). They’re background props in the movie; I mean I don’t even remember hearing Dwayne’s name in the movie. He’s got like, maybe three lines? One of which we all just choose to ignore as writers because it’s so out of character for him. (I cringe whenever I get to that scene in the movie every. single. time) It took the actors actually caring about their roles and trying to develop them further for us to be able to pick up on all the little things and wring out what personality we can from their performances.
So as far as the David/Michael dynamic. I would say David 100% has feelings for Michael. No doubt in my mind. This movie is gay to the max. I already talked about the reasoning behind David changing Michael in relation to Max. I think he brought him into the cave with the intention of having Michael be Star’s first kill, but I think David and the boys genuinely enjoyed hanging out with/messing with Michael and on a whim David changed his mind and decided to turn him. But if we’re being real I think David was repressing a mad crush he was forming on Michael at the same time.
Tumblr media
That is the face of a conflicted bisexual man who’s suddenly realizing, “Oh no, he’s hot.” I don’t make the rules.
Seriously though, I think David genuinely had feeling for Michael. It’s not like David and the boys hang out with other guys on a regular basis aside from each other, and I see their relationship with each other in a more brotherly way rather than sexual, particularly when you look at their relationship from the prequel script (are you guys tried of me talking about the prequel script yet?). So for David, this would be the first time in probably 80ish years that he’s actually just hung out and had fun with another guy that wasn’t one of his brothers. He’s probably feeling a lot of repressed feelings coming to the surface and Michael’s a good time, so why not? Plus he’s a snack. So I agree with the movie on this part, I think David would have gone through with turning him for his own reasons (not because of Max).
But after his brothers were killed I don’t think David would have still been trying to recruit him. I think the movie is sincere in this line though.
I think movie!David is still trying to get Michael on his side, most likely because of Max (again, from my previous post, I really think the secret villain reveal hurt the characters in the movie more than it helped) because Max still wants Michael to join them because he wants Lucy.
I think if we’re being fair to the character though, no matter how heartless people might think David is, even when it comes to the other lost boys, (I’ve talked about that too) he’s not. This is an 80s horror movie, this is before the villains/monsters were allowed to be complex and have real feelings (fun fact: that tear David sheds in the movie after Marko dies and the Frogs/Sam flee the cave? It was actually because the glass contacts Kiefer had to wear. You could only keep those things in your eyes for like 5 minutes before they dried your eyes out really bad, hence the tear; but Schumacher liked that it fit the scene so he kept it in the movie. That’s the only reason we get even an inkling of emotion from them post-Marko death.) so we don’t get to see the complexity of his character as much as we’d like. I do think Kiefer, the absolute king he is, really did an amazing job of trying to throw in a lot of layers to the character.
So to wrap up my rant here, I personally think there are two answers to your question.
I think, in the movie, David is genuinely still trying to get Michael to join him. Whether it be for Max’s benefit or not I can’t say, but I think, for the sake of the movie, yeah, that’s what that scene was trying to do. I think movie!David is totally crushing on Michael and that’s why he turns him, but I don’t think that has anything to do with why he’s still trying to get him to join after the boys are dead. Pretty sure that ship sailed; it’s all business now.
But if this character was allowed to exist outside the sphere of a 90 minute movie? If he was allowed to deviate from furthering the agenda of the “secret villains” plot? No. No way in hell would David still be okay with Michael after what he’d done to his boys. He’d being flaying him alive.
Thank you so much for the question! It was such a good one! ❤️ Feel free to send me any more! I am always down to answer these kinds of questions. (I’m genuinely surprised anyone actually want me opinion on this stuff. It’s bonkers. You guys are amazing.)

QUESTIONS FOR OC CREATORS
Tumblr media
( Saw these floating around on Tumblr and decided give it a shot. Art of V was done by the wonderful @commandermorgan because she’s a talented artist who needs all the acknowledgment for her gorgeous works. )
A) Why are you excited about this character?
Because Vera is a Black Bisexual woman ( like me! ) who is a Nomad in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Hardened by her life in the Badlands and ready to prove something to the people of Night City, Vera isn't a kind person and she’s not here to be your caretaker or hold your hand. She’s got her own agenda and while she’s always looking out for number one ( herself ), it’s not because she’s irredeemably self-serving, but because she’s a nomad who has been taught to survive from the moment she learned how to walk.
Vera has the appearance of a sweet-faced, angelic beauty with an otherworldly innocence about her...except she’s the total opposite of her appearance and is someone who is incredibly dangerous and a product of the harsh environment she grew up in. I wanted to write a character who people would underestimate at first glance only to regret it later on. I also wanted to write a Black female character because as a Black woman, I’m more comfortable writing characters of my race, gender, and sexuality. Also, I see very few Black V’s in the Cyberpunk fandom and just wanted to get a headstart on that.
B) What inspired you to create them?
It was complex female characters like Selina Kyle, Yennefer, and Ada Wong that inspired me to create Vera. Vera is a young woman in her early twenties who has lived a very hard life and desires to become something more in Night City.
She’s fiercely independent and pragmatic to a fault, but she has managed to keep her integrity as a nomad intact and has her own “code” that she lives by. Vera grew up in the Badlands and survived by herself when her nomad family fell apart, going by less than favorable means, such as scavenging for supplies or even killing if necessary to protect her interests. At times she appears aloof and self-serving, hardened because of her deeply troubled life, but that doesn’t mean she won’t work alongside someone to get the job done.
Vera is extremely guarded but has shown a degree of loyalty and compassion that she seldom reveals because of her chosen stoic exterior. Despite her “difficult” personality, she does have some semblance of a conscience and genuinely cares for anyone she considers “family.”
C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?
To be honest...yes. Cyberpunk 2077 was slowly coming out of the woodworks and I was being spoon-fed small doses of information. So small that I didn’t know where to begin with Vera’s story. I plotted what I could with the teeny bits of information I was given. I mean, the game’s not even out yet and after watching all the NCW episodes, I’ve come to the conclusion that once the game comes out, I’m going to be making some big changes to her story.
D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?
You know what? There’s some old artwork of Vera where she had green hair and her name was Vanya the artwork was done by @taiga-saejima who is just wonderful and incredible ( please show the mun some support ).
“Vanya” was originally a brash, impulsive young woman with a prosthetic arm that could drill holes through a wall and had dreams of grandeur, but over time...she slowly began to evolve. She changed from this loud-mouthed moron to a silent survivalist suffering from an extreme amount of PTSD and has unresolved grief from a childhood trauma that haunts her.
Like Max from Fury Road, she wandered from place to place in hopes of outrunning the “ghosts” that shadow her steps. Vera tells herself that she only came to Night City to make it big and provide opportunities for other nomads looking to earn a living for their families and that’s partially true, but deep down, she needed a distraction. Also, her hair is no longer green but a dark purple and her prosthetic forearm cannot drill holes into walls.
E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?
I think we’d get along okay, but we wouldn’t be super close.
I’m a huge wuss, and I would never be able to keep up with her because of my anxiety, my fear of loud noises, my crippling fear of getting physically hurt, and my unholy addiction to tea. Yes, Vera and I share some similarities, but I’ve been coddled my whole life, and she’s been on the road surviving. Vera and I would be better off as friendly neighbors eating lunch together and watching trashy reality shows.
F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)?
I feel nothing but love and pride for my baby girl. She’s been with me since 2019 and I’m surprised at how much she’s evolved as a character. Yes, I put her through a lot of shit but I never go overboard because heaping a bunch of pain on an oc can get boring and downright depressing. Vera’s story is about endurance, healing, determination, family, and freedom.
G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?
Although intelligent, Vera is highly paranoid which, combined with her temper can also affect the headway of her plans or position. She doesn’t trust easily and has a tiny circle of friends that she knows will never betray her. I can’t exactly blame her for being this way but this paranoia can be a hindrance because she’s slow to warm up to people and believes that someone is always out to get her.
H) What trait do you admire most?
Her ability to manage money.
Vera excels at money management, and that is due to her analytical, obsessive nature. She’ll dot her i's and cross her t's — that means no stone goes unturned, and when it comes to financing, it's the same.
She’ll make notes, take notes, and figure things out in a realistic way. Reality is key with Vera, and that means she doesn’t fantasize about her bank account; she knows exactly what's going on and how to make her money grow.
Does she love spending money? Yes! She loves shopping, but she loves managing her money more...and discounts.
I also love how she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty.
Nothing is more important to Vera than achieving her own goals. She’s not out to hurt anyone, not really, but she will do whatever it takes to succeed and make it big in Night City. If someone gets in her way, that’s too bad — Vera won’t hesitate to tip the scales in her favor and remove the obstacle. The concept of “fair” loses all meaning to her if she feels like her ambitions are being threatened.
J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?
Yes? No? I already know that a Nomad!V had to leave their family but there’s no information as to what happened to them...so I made up my own headcanon about what happened to Vera’s family. Her parents were murdered by Wraiths and the rest of her nomad family scattered during a particularly gruesome raid led by Raffen Shiv.
I haven’t played the game yet...soooo I’m not sure which part of her story is canon.
I) Do you prefer to keep them in their canon universe?
Yes and no.
I have so many aus for her it’s ridiculous. I have a Dead By Daylight au where she’s a goth girl just trying to survive and I have a Fallout 4 au where she traveled from the Mojave to the Commonwealth after her family was killed by the Legion.

It WASN'T A "Blue Wave", but it was a shift in power, just enough to put Trump In 'Check"! - Phroyd
The vaunted blue wave that Democrats had hoped for failed to fully materialize on Tuesday night, but the days of one-party control in Washington are now over. President Trump’s strength in rural areas kept the Senate in Republican control, but voters in urban and suburban districts across the country sent the White House a clear message: They want a check on the president.
When the new Congress is sworn in this January, Democrats will be able to curb Mr. Trump’s legislative ambitions and, armed with subpoena power, flex their oversight muscles to initiate investigations into allegations of misconduct by the president and his administration. If the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, finds substantial evidence of illegal conduct during the 2016 election, he now will have a receptive wing of government to pursue his findings.
“Tonight, the American people have demanded accountability from their government and sent a clear message of what they want from Congress,” Representative Jerrold Nadler, the New York Democrat in line to be chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said on Twitter. The president “may not like it, but he and his administration will be held accountable to our laws and to the American people.”
But after eight years in the minority, Democrats hoping to reclaim the White House in 2020 will also have to prove they are interested in governing — and temper the liberal ambitions of the party’s most ardent left-wingers.
“It’s like being the rescue team at an 88-car pileup: Who knows where to begin?” asked Representative Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland. “I think the key principle is that we’ve got to make progress on the real problems of the country.”
Democratic leaders have already said they plan to use their first month in the House majority to advance sweeping changes to future campaign and ethics laws, including outlawing the gerrymandering of congressional districts and restoring key enforcement provisions to the Voting Rights Act. They also intend to press for infrastructure investment and legislation to control the climbing costs of prescription drugs — initiatives that will test whether Mr. Trump is willing to work with them.
Those measures, they believe, will be broadly popular. An ebullient Representative Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader who now hopes to be its next speaker, pledged to “work for solutions that bring us together, because we have all had enough of division.”
But without overwhelming numbers, Democrats will not have the strength to push many of the initiatives their left flank ran on: a single-payer health care system, boldly expanded college access and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency that’s at least reined in.
Democrats will also have to balance legislative ambitions with their efforts to satisfy the desires of their base to investigate the president. That could lead to gridlock.
“The expectation is that we will behave as a real branch of government and not just a supplicant to Trump, which this current Congress has been for the last two years,” said Representative Raúl Grijalva, Democrat of Arizona. “There’s an expectation that we’re a check and a balance so that means a stalemate.”
Midterm elections are always a referendum on the president, and never more so than in 2018, when Mr. Trump told voters across the country that he was on the ballot. Historically, the party out of power picks up seats in the first midterm of a presidency, and Democrats followed that pattern this year.
Unlike the midterms of 2006, when President George W. Bush declared that Democrats had delivered “a thumping,” or 2010, when President Barack Obama described Republicans’ victory as “a shellacking,” the Democrats did not score an overwhelming victory Tuesday night. Republicans are likely to expand their majority in the Senate, and Democrats lost some governorships that they badly wanted, especially in Ohio and Florida.
But they do have a lot to celebrate. Democrats not only won the districts they were favored in, but locked up many where they were not. In New York, Max Rose, a health care executive and Army veteran, ousted Representative Dan Donovan, the only Republican member of New York City’s congressional delegation, in a race that analysts had said leaned Republican.
In Texas, Democrat Colin Allred, a former N.F.L. player and civil rights lawyer, defeated the incumbent Republican, Pete Sessions. In Illinois, Lauren Underwood beat Representative Randy Hultgren, a Republican who won by 19 points in 2016.
And in Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger, a former C.I.A. official, unseated Representative Dave Brat, a Tea Party darling who himself scored a massive upset four years ago when he defeated his predecessor, Eric Cantor, the Republican leader, in a Republican primary.
In a year when Mr. Trump put racial divisiveness on the ballot, Democrats ran and won with a diverse set of candidates who are infusing the party with new energy. Many are from the party’s progressive wing. Newcomers like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist from New York, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts will almost certainly take the lead in pressing for a liberal agenda.
Democratic leaders plan to satisfy those demands by using their newfound majority to push through long-stalled initiatives that they say have broad support within the electorate. High on their list of priorities is gun safety legislation, legislation to offer a pathway to citizenship for the undocumented young people known as Dreamers, and a bill to extend broad civil rights protections to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people.
At the same time, Democrats must be careful not to overreach. Progressives will almost certainly clamor for Mr. Trump’s impeachment — a push that Democratic leaders have indicated that they will resist, at least until Mr. Mueller releases his findings.
“Everybody understands that we have to choose our battles very carefully now,” Mr. Raskin said. “We have to make sure that we are advancing a common sense majority platform that America wants, and let’s hope that we can bring Republicans aboard with us.”
That may be overly optimistic, especially with Republicans in control of the Senate. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, has shown little inclination to cooperate with Democrats, and is unlikely to do so without a nudge from Mr. Trump. And Mr. Trump himself may be in no mood to cooperate once Democrats start demanding documents — including, perhaps, the president’s tax returns.
Mr. Trump is already anticipating as much — and gave a hint earlier this week of how he will react to Democrats’ demands.
“I don’t care,” he told reporters. “They can do whatever they want and I can do whatever I want.”
