Hi, everyone. I want to explain a little bit why I've been so inactive and unresponsive on Tumblr of late. It's just a very busy time for me work-wise, and I always struggle with seasonal affective depression. I'm pouring a lot of energy into my job, and the remainder is going into getting more exercise and getting more reading done. I was really disappointed with finishing only 24 books last year, and I want to reach my goal of 35 books this year.

It hasn't been a particularly creative time for me. I do feel like I pour a ton of energy into my job and that sucks a lot of my creativity and leaves not a lot left for writing or making art. People often ask me what happened to my Instagram, and the reality is that when I was doing a BFA full-time, I had all day, every day, to work on my art. Of course I could update frequently. Now, I have a full-time job that really isn't appropriate for sharing much about on social media. I apologize to my readers who would like me to update more frequently. I do anticipate having a little more free time at the end of March, when I will finish my online course.

The heavy looming weight of the urge to write a strained sibling relationship for James and albus because they are THEE prodigal son and the cursed child.

THE WAY I WOULD WRITE THE PERFECT FRIENDS TO LOVERS FOR SCOR AND AL . the way I would add the best oc who the fandom will fall in love with and regard as canon for years to come UGHHHH

A lot of 'eloquent writers' are not going to agree with me when I say this but; write however the fuck you want. Especially if it's for fun online, no one here is grading your shit. Yes it's a little different when it comes to original works you want to get published but fanfic? Nah no rules apply. Write in those run on sentences, fuck grammer, don't capitalize, word vomit your ideas into a google doc, fill those paragraphs up with words that barely make sense, just have fun with it. If it's nonsense it's nonsense but if it made you happy to write then that doesn't really matter does it?

Also, I fail to do this myself sometimes, but give yourself a break when it comes to writing. Your writing does not need to read like anyone else's, it's your writing. Everyone has their own 'voice' in writing and just because yours is different than someone else's doesn't make it any less.

Question for fellow writers and creatives, because I was just chatting with @nuwildcat about this.

okay I need to leave, but I've been poking at wips, and after a month in the trenches trying to find romance authors I like, it's crazy to return back to fanfic and just be like oh. shit. this is good. why can't I find stuff like this published??

look. the levels of "you know, i always thought i could be a good dancer if i wanted to be" in 15x10 are just. so much to me!!

the more i think about s15, the more i see the little callbacks and easter eggs to earlier seasons. (the writers did their homework!) we have what i think is probably the most recognized/cited one, "daddy's blunt instrument" which predates every writer working on s15. i guess arguments could be made for singer but i just don't see him making that sort of contribution to a berens-penned ep. but there are so many other little things and i do think dean's line about thinking he could've been a good dancer is both a metaphor and a callback to 07x16 out with the old.

which like.

it was also something of a metaphor in s7. you have the literal meaning of dean seeing the ballet shoes in s7 and clearly being drawn to them in a way that sam isn't, the references to both black swan and swan lake. (and clearly a knowledge of swan lake given the reference to prince siegfried.) but you also have the metaphorical meaning of the shoes with dean being drawn to something that is perceived to be non-masculine and "delicate" and nothing like hunting. that he wants to have that in some capacity. and then we get a reference back to that in 15x10!! the acknowledgement that he always thought he could be a good dancer if he wanted to be. said with wistfulness! and it's said as they watch garth and bess dancing together. the face he makes when sam jokes he was good at the macarena and totally brushes off what dean is saying. given the lamp. given everything in the episode. yes, it's about dancing and wanting normalcy. it's about settling down and having a life. it's about dancing with someone.

you ask "why lamp?" you fucking know why. and so does andrew dabb.

also: references to swan lake the ep before cas returns is uh. a lot. this is however an instance where i'm not 100% onboard with it being an intentional destiel thing.

* there is literally nothing delicate about dance/dancers tho, it's literally just perception. i had friends who danced and they were pure muscle and grace. it's wild.

Yous all have got to stop peer-pressuring yourself to match out peoples creativity outputs. Doesn't matter if other people manage to put out multiple fics per week and seem to write them up in a few hours. Doesn't matter if people post art work weekly. Who cares.

If the fandom pieces you create aren't for you and made at your own pace so you can savour and enjoy them then whats the point. Stop turning your joys and hobbies into a grind to meet expectations you impose on yourself! Fandoms are not a job! Just do things when the mood strikes you! You don't have to create! You just have to make yourself smile! If other people happen to enjoy those things, that's just a bonus!

If you don't know her, Nargles15 is the author of the amazing Harry Potter fanfic "The Squib" which I have been forcing on my tumblr followers for months. It is a dystopian HP AU painting the picture of a war between Muggles and wizards.

I have been an utter stan of Nargles' writing for what feels like years. Her level of skill and economy words is something that I truly aspire to, and I am so delighted to be able to finally talk to her. In the episode, we will talk about editing and trimming off "the fat", writing fanfiction as well as original fiction, her experience doing an MFA in writing, the appeal of writing AUs, and much more.
