Alongside the history we know, there's an unrecorded thread of intrusive thoughts that were never written down or acknowledged. When I'm reading a book about a historical event I'm interested in enough that my intrusive thoughts try to ruin it for me, there's always a possibility that someone there was having the exact same issue, and just never told anyone about it because it was fucked up.
