Fourteen Days of MHA: Day 3

Light Fades to Rain

Okay, let's gush. Here are my feelings about the anime adaptation of chapters 360-362: season 7 episode 11. This will quickly devolve from eloquent discussion to raging madness I promise.

The opening five minutes are the weakest part of the episode. This is the only section I will lodge any complaints about, and honestly they're not that serious.

The sadomasochism got toned down :P

I kind of expected it, and honestly I get why. Even though it was scaled back, the scene was effective enough for most viewers because there's just something about seeing it animated that makes it feel visceral anyways. The detail was always going to be reduced in the art when adapted to animation, and a lot of that art could've looked really bad without the necessary detail.

But it wouldn't be on brand for me if I didn't mention that it bummed me out lol.

The only other thing I can complain about isn't even an issue with the episode, it's an error in the subtitles.

"...you're just goldfish poop next to All For One."

a) It should be "One For All," not "All For One."

b) I don't think they should have kept it as "goldfish poop." Sorry to any language purists out there, but the idiomatic meaning of this phrase in Japanese will not get picked up by an English-speaking audience--and that idiom is important. It has an impact on how Katsuki behaves going forward. I think the subtitles should have changed that to something like "a minnow in One For All's wake" or "a tag-along weakling," ANYTHING to get the point across that Tomura is trying to inflict psychological damage by telling Katsuki he'll never amount to anything on the level of One For All. That message informs the rest of the episode!

Now, if that's the only complaint I have about this whole episode--a slightly too-fast-paced-under-detailed opening scene and a bad subtitle--then I'm a happy camper. And indeed that is the only complaint I have.

This episode is a masterpiece of adaptation.

The focus on the Big Three is so good because it does such a good job of masking where the episode is going but it's perfectly in-theme because of the parallels the three of them have with Izuku and Katsuki. IT JUST WORKS MAN. I LOVE IT.

The music that plays when Katsuki mutters is an excellent choice, though I wish they could have done something to hammer the point home more that he was indeed muttering and analyzing like Izuku does. Maybe the little "mutter" text would've been dissonant in tone lol but still I wish there was a way they could've done it. I do think the point does come across in the end still, but it's just more impactful when you get to see the little "mutter" text come full circle. Yeah yeah, manga vs anime and all that.

I didn't expect the tone they went with for Jeanist's reaction to Katsuki's muttering, but it was just different not like bad or anything. I kinda liked the whole "what the fuuuuck" vibe of it. I was thinking more like "Holy shit, I'm a proud dad" tone but this works XD

HE SPARKLE. KATSUKI, HE SPARKLE. IT SO PRETTY. AT LAST.

The animators were SOOOO trying to hide the twist this episode from the anime-only viewers, they didn't even put Katsuki on the commercial bumpers, they didn't want to SPOIL THE SURPRISE. IT'S SO GOOD.

Lost it at Tenko's freak out (damn voice actor wow) and Mirio's "g-gomen." I need the dub of this scene so bad.

Nejire is adorable as hell and everyone in MHA is so easily read as autistic it's remarkable actually.

They really put the typography behind the plasma cannon they actually did that.

Also good job on making the plasma cannon blast look small and precise to contrast Katsuki's attack last episode, because Katsuki definitely has more firepower but Tamaki has the finesse to concentrate the attack for a sustained period.

I like. Have not played a single Hoyo game so it is quite shocking to see people take deeper looks into the games and their themes to uncover just how DEEPLY racist Hoyoverse is.

When I say racist I mean like. Painting this fantasy, ideal, "aesthetic" world that only wears the face of multiculturalism, while explicitly making it so all the heroes and good characters are white, while making the enemy characters typically with a darker shade of skin. Like just. In fucking Genshin. Look at the Hilichurls. They've literally got pitch black skin and masks, and despite having their own culture, are constantly and consistently treated nothing more as "pests". Like just. I swear to god there are so many "Hilichurl" like examples of weaving weird racism into video game enemies in the wider media sphere, but I digress.

What really gets me is like. I saw some shit from fucking Honkai or whatever where there is an entire character who was born black, but bleached her skin out of shame. Like. What. Also this is all second hand, so forgive me for getting details wrong, but doesn't she just. Keep hating herself for her skin color and her heritage? Also the way her mother is drawn is just like. Somehow both a racist and transphobic caricature rolled into one. Like they illustrated her in a way that doesn't feel done in good taste. It fees like they want to evoke a sense of confusion and maybe disdain. Perhaps they wish for you to sympathize with the girl who bleached her own skin (???) and like. What the fuck is this writing HOW DO PEOPLE JUST NOT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THIS??????

Also. There is of course ZZZ. The issue here is more what people have already mentioned and something I don't feel like fully relaying. Which is the sort of heavy emphasis and inspiration from Hip-Hop and Rap culture, but without any black characters actually in the setting. Ben Bigger is like. Legit the blackest character there, problem is that he ISN'T HUMAN. Like it shows that they would sooner create an anthropomorphic bear, a fantasy character, than a black character that actually displays their culture in a proud way. Not really my place to say all of this, since others have said it much better than I ever could. Last thing I would say is that the Black edits of the characters (especially Ellen Joe), make the character designs leagues better.

To cap off this messily organized tumblr post and rant, it brings me to my biggest issue: erasure. The fact that when you search up Tighnari, you only get that dogshit anime boy, hell, the issue even still persists somewhat when you specify for Al-Tighnari. I am not well read on who Tighnari is, but even skimming past a description of that man is truly breathtaking. He sounds like a very well traveled, very wise man who likely had a sizable impact on the world. Thing is. When you search up Tighnari you don't see this man anywhere. When you bring up Tighnari, it is unlikely people actually recognize who the man himself was. Instead you have this character, who's skin is as white as a sheet, actively acting like a shroud being thrown over an old cultural icon. His design has been criticized endlessly for how little it lines up, but that's not the point. The point being is that Tighnari in Genshin has uprooted knowledge of the original in the public eye. This is but one example, and doesn't even BEGIN to touch upon the absolute shitshow that is Natlan. However, people have already exhaustively described what is wrong with it so I digress there. Oh and I said I would close this out but like. Fucking Star Rail or whatever has a character with Dark Skin who has "shacklebreaker" as one of their main skills and like. This is some J.K. Rowling type racism. Like what. What the fuck?

Look what's really important here is that I am just so fucking taken aback by learning the extent of it. I always bore a minor grudge against Genshin, but the clarification, and the knowledge of how deep this shit goes... just makes me realize this. There is no longer any confusion about how this got so popular, because racism is excusable in general fandom spaces. Racism isn't considered a dealbreaker to many people, and that is the root of the issue I believe. How general online fandom communities and people as consumers are just so unbothered by racism that they will just not criticize it, pass it off as normal, and will actively engage in racist tendencies, rather than making any effort to better themselves and to be more tasteful in what they choose to support financially, and what they choose to consume.

Asmodeus would absolutely love something romantic. Maybe a simple locket. Heart-shaped and rose gold with a picture of the two of you inside. Preferably a photo where you guys look goofy. Perhaps from one of your spa nights, when you were covered in homemade face masks (that Beel had taste tested…) Or, if you want to go old school, a lock of your hair instead. Something that shows the love you feel for him, as opposed to lust.

This is 100% inspired by the Devilgram where Beelzebub teaches you how to snowboard, but.. I honestly think Beel would be the type of person who prefers an experience over a physical gift. And I'm sure the Devildom has some sort of magic ski resort that is always snowy. So why not spend a day snowboarding with Beel?! You can hit the slopes early and then grab some hot chocolate together, sitting inside by a fire until you can feel your fingers again. End the day with an impromptu snowball fight that leaves you breathless, the cold air stinging your lungs as you both collapse on the ground laughing.

I think Belphegor would appreciate something like one of those paintings of what the night sky looked like on an important date. Like maybe your birthday, or the day you first climbed the stairs to the attic, or your first date. Something like that. A gorgeous watercolor background with an exact chart of what the night sky looked like that day, a moment frozen in time. He would keep it right near his bed so it's the first thing he sees every morning. It makes getting up less awful.

D&D AU Headcanons

Ragatha has become very in-tune with being a werebear. She’s adapted and grown to accept it as a part of herself.

Pomni, on the other hand, has not adapted to being an Aberrant Horror. How could she? It’s a horrible existence.

She’s often in pain and is almost always uncomfortable. Because retaining her humanoid form is a constant struggle. Her body is always fighting against itself, both to transform into its true form and to stay in humanoid form.

It’s Not Very Fun.

Zooble is the group protector. They’re so protective, but they’ll never admit it.

Ragatha once got hit by a silvered weapon, which hurts her Real Bad, and Zooble maimed the guy who attacked her.

They often opt to keep watch at night when the party isn’t staying in a building.

On the other hand, Ragatha is the group mom ofc.

She’s a werebear. A literal mama bear.

She always makes sure everyone eats when they’re camping while traveling.

People can ride on her back in werebear form.

Sometimes she’ll pick Pomni up by the scruff (collar of her shirt) and carry her around like that, and Pomni is just like a limp cat. She accepts it.

Kinger loves to prune Ragatha’s wings. It’s very relaxing for both of them. He’s so gentle.

He also offers to prune Pomni’s wings (which she has from being an Aberrant Horror, but they’re absorbed into her skin and only come out when she chooses to grow them), but she usually declines because they don’t have much to prune, seeing as they’re made of flesh and sinew. He respects her boundaries and doesn’t push it.

Because she’s a lycanthrope, Ragatha constantly risks going on a rampage when in her bear form. But again, she’s learned to tame her rage, and it rarely ever happens.

(Fun Fact: game mechanically-wise, she has a +9 to her Wisdom Saving Throw, so she actually cannot go on a rampage ever because even on a Nat 1, she still beats the DC, which is a 10.)

Ragatha constantly has Mending prepared for when Gangle’s mask gets broken.

As an Aberrant Horror, Pomni has the ability to mutate her arms into giant bone spikes (among other abilities), but she doesn’t do it very often because it’s freaky and gross, and she doesn’t want to scare off her buddies.

Ragatha’s wings are rated E for everyone. If anyone is cold, they can curl up in them. If it’s raining, she’ll open them over the heads of the others. She’ll use them as shields for the others, too.

If it’s REALLY cold, she’ll go into her werebear form and just let everyone cuddle around her in her fur.

Pomni holds and squeezes her tail when she’s anxious.

Jax wears this metal point on the tip of his tail that he pokes the others with, well aware that it hurts.

Pomni chuffs like a tiger.

hi! ive listened to some of chonny jash's songs but did not realize that there was really a story? Or i vaguely knew but didn't have the time/energy to get into it and with the release of the bidding animation ive realized theres like a bajillion awesome animations and art and i want to get into cccc but have no clue how. also why does soul have a trident.

OH man!

The story of CCCC has an overall seeming narrative, but much of it's smaller points are interpretive due to Jash himself leaving it up to fans of the album. But! Overall it kind of goes like:

-Jash or, what most people call Whole, splits as due to mental dissonance and waning mental health. (Time Machine Reprise).

- Whole fades into Soul (End of TMR into Dream) and from there its Mucka Blucka as a sort of introductory song. The recap for a story you have or haven't heard yet.

- (The entire album is a time loop! Which is a big metaphor for the cycles of mental health and illness people go through.)

- From there its the section called "Cacophony" which starts off with Soul, but eventually it turns to Heart and Mind + their fighting and inability to see or listen to one another or their points of view. Of course, as Logic and Emotion, they both have valid ideas or opinions, but believe themselves so contradictory that the other must be evil or out to get them.

Which is also sort of CJ's epic "im burnt out as hell" song towards the end. But exaggerated to my knowledge for lyrical shenanigans.

Getting into the Trident: The fandom took the metaphor of "Tridential Sovreignty" and "This trident he formed (found? Lyrics.) is both weapon and motive" and said "Soul's got a trident" to which Jash responded with "Absolutely yes he does now" Same with the crown most people put Mind in, and that is referenced in the "Trident, Crown and Blindfold" line.

Soul really did get noose imagery, a trident and a mask. All Heart n Mind got were a blindfold and crown. Lmao

Though Heart is also commonly drawn with wings. Which is semi-canonical according to album covers. I choose to ignore them because I don't particularly have an attachment to the idea!

Getting into the fandom itself, I can recommend looking around for the Chonny Jash Fan Server (CJFS) Discord link. But it can be extremely intimidating and even I just stick to discussion and one other thread channel. (Sides from my au channels which pop up every once a month or so).

Important note is that only Tally Hall covers have to do with HMS. Any of Jash's other music (of which I highly recommend, always) is unrelated. There is also a fan QnA somewhere that was done like a year ago now which has some neat answers in it.

Twilight has a ranch and a horse. Good with animals, works at home kinda, can become a fluffy dog (rebuttal me personally I’m mildly allergic to dogs, and also ranches take up a lot of time. As a country person I know, I know it all too well)

Wild has long hair the kids could braid. Has horses, can cook a good meal, doesn’t get tired of cooking, has a thing he can take pictures on, well travelled. (Rebuttal he does some stupid ass shit bro, and also he isn’t always considering what his actions do. Time. He's so calm and patient. So anytime the baby gets to be too much for Reader, he's easily stepping in and swooping them up, settling them within seconds. (Rebuttal: Fought the fucking moon- Also, has farts that are comparable to an actual try on your life. Idk what this man eats, but someone has got to find what crawled up his butt and died)

Hyrule. Loml. I love him. Gibe him smooch- He has babysitters out the freaking door. His sisters absolutely adore you and your baby and bring the best presents. (Rebuttal: Yeah that blood thing is pretty bad, but he also is the worst at saying no to your kid. That kid will be so spoiled and you'll be forced to be the stricter parent)

♡ Elisha Spends The Summer With An Immortal Maiden In Your Forest ♡

(This is 4,113 words so the longest fic I've written for one of my characters on their own.)

♡ Immortals were essential to the balance of life, you had to remain in your forest lest it wither and die without your presence, vampires must exist otherwise humans would hunt too many animals in the forests they resided in, dragons had to keep their forests safe havens, likewise there had to be those who hunted vampires who did not remain in their dens, there had to be a dragon slayer to keep dragons from getting too bold, and there had to be people who would come to try to harm you so you would be driven to stay in your forest and never leave, not that you would even if there weren't those trying to hunt you, but once upon a time in your youth you had thought about leaving your forest until you felt the cool steel of knife against your neck, in the end venturing out wasn't worth it. ♡

♡ When Elisha came into your forest wounded from a fight with what seemed like a giant dragon, you felt you had to take care of her, sure she could have healed on her own but her recovering quickly was essential for things falling into their natural order, it wouldn't do to have her out of commission and as the chosen one, you could tell from the seal on her boots, she surely would not bring harm to you so it wouldn't hurt you to help, so you dragged her back to your clearing in the woods and started to make medicine for her wounds. ♡

"Oh! You're awake! I found you at the edge of my forest and brought you inside to protect you." You kneeled down next to her sleeping roll with the bowl of soup you'd made for her, you knew she'd wake up today, you just hadn't realized she'd wake up so soon. You'd likely be able to get her out of your forest in a month with how fast she was recovering, it made you a bit sad to think you'd be alone again, even the company of a comatose body was better than no company. "I'm the maiden who guards these woods, you are the chosen one, correct?"

"That's me, honestly if I had to get stabbed through the stomach with a dragons claw just to see you, it's entirely worth it." She tried to sit up, flinching at the pain in her stomach, the wound luckily wasn't too deep but there still was a hole in her stomach at the current moment so she really shouldn't be moving at all for another week. She didn't respond well when you pushed her to lay back down, she was going to be an extremely rough patient to deal with. The first week passed without incident.

♡ Despite her non stop flirting, living with her was good, on the second week when she had actually became capable of moving again though still had to refrain from straining herself she followed you to the lake when you collected water for your camp. She wanted to help carry the buckets back but you refused to let her, her recovery was the most important thing at the moment. She was rather easy to talk to as well much to your surprise, she seemed nonchalant at first but it seemed to just be a mask, she was in fact a rather sweet and loving person to talk to. ♡

♡ She also understood everything you said quite well, you didn't need to explain basic concepts to her about how the forest worked or the creatures that resided there, she grasped it all very well and even wrote small journal entries about every creature that lived there, except for the pixies, they freaked her out every time you pointed out one of them, she'd mumbled under her breath something about them being demonic little shits before catching herself and apologizing, you supposed everyone had things they weren't able to handle though. ♡

"Fucking fuck!" You darted over to where Elisha was only to see her freaking out because a pixie had landed on a tree branch next to her head and she really didn't like it, you almost thought it was cute for a second because you realized she was actually a bit freaked out and came over to help her.

"It's okay, let's just keep walking, I'll hold your hand as we go, okay?" She fumbled for a minute trying to decide what to say before sighing and just taking your hand.

"Thanks, I guess." It was charming when she tried to pretend she didn't appreciate the gesture.

♡ Elisha insisted on following you everywhere in your forest during the third week, no longer only following you if you went long distances like to the lake, now following you even if you were only going to pick berries on the other side of the clearing, you told her your forest was safe as long as you never stepped foot outside it but she still felt the need to watch over you just in case. Her wound was getting significantly better on the bright side however. ♡

♡ You'd discovered how easy it was to cool her flirting, with just a tiny bit of reciprocation she was turned into a complete fool often shutting her mouth for a while. It made sense, whenever you'd spent any time with humans in your forest in the past they'd been all talk but the moment you moved to do something they had lacked the follow through excluding a few of them who left the next morning feeling like you'd lost your mystique now that you weren't an 'untouched' maiden of the woods. You couldn't understand why humans held that assumption but you were just glad you got to fuck to begin with even if they left afterwards. ♡

"You should just marry me and leave your forest baby." You had to hold back a laugh, it was likely the fifth time this day she'd blurted it out, she wasn't serious though, the second you indulged her for even a second she got all flustered and backed away, mumbling something about needing an engagement ring first. Today you were not in a humoring mood however, she had been doing heavy lifting around camp which was only going to make her wounds worse, it was like she was trying to get hurt so she could stay here longer.

"Sit back down, you'll reopen that stupid scar on your stomach." She grinned stupidly as you pushed her to sit down on a wooden log, her hand catching your hand and kissing your wrist gently.

"See, you're caring for me just like a wifey, baby, it's mean to be." You pulled away from her, trying not to even look at her for the rest of the day or else you'd see that stupid grin on her face. It was dangerous for her to be so beautiful, you'd almost believe she actually means the things she's saying. "Mmm my pretty wifey, I can't wait."

♡ She got far weirder the fourth week, her wounds were close to healing, she decided this meant she was good to start training again and aggravated her wound so much you forced her back on bedrest which didn't work the best considering her need to follow you even to the other side of your little camping site. It was cute having her trail you around constantly asking for your hand in marriage until it wasn't. ♡

♡ It was around this time you also became cognizant of the fact you were nude around her constantly and asked her to give you a pair of her clothing leading you to wear an oversized shirt she'd apparently stolen from a man she was gambling with and refused to give back out of spite even though it wasn't in her size, she'd forgotten about it in her bag, it really came in handy when you could feel her eyes growing far bolder by the day. ♡

"Do you have to wear that? It's just us in the clearing, I wanna see my baby again!" You rolled your eyes scooting away from her, she seemed offended you'd finally put some damn clothing on which only increased your desire to remain clothed around the massive flirt. You were not going to be seduced by this second rate seductress, it wasn't happening, sure she was pretty but out of everyone who had flirted with you, she was by far the worst flirt but one look at her pretty face and you'd almost believe she meant what she said when she called you baby in that ever so slightly whiny tone that demanded reciprocation.

"The fact that you want me to take it off so bad is why I'm not going to take it off." You heard her scoff and roll over in her bedroll but you couldn't look at her, that stupid face of hers made you just want to give in, next you'd need to find a pair of pants that fit, there was probably a pair leftover from a previous human though you imagine Elisha would get grumpy if you left for even a second to go find a pair and reopen her wounds so you'd have to wait until she slept.

♡ In a shocking twist of events it wasn't you putting on pants that bothered her, it was that they belonged to someone else despite the shirt that she gave you also also belonging to someone else, she was still on bedrest though and she apparently liked when you were nursing her back to health so she couldn't get up and shred them like she'd threaten to do when you first told her how you obtained them. The unfortunate thing about cleaning her wound every day and redressing it because it wouldn't stop coming open whenever she got up to follow you was you actually had to look at her for a prolonged period of time. ♡

♡ Elisha was basking in it though, every time you had to remove the bandages she proposed to you, you clearly wanted to be her wife, only her wifey would take care of her while she's bedridden, it was during that conversation you told her the real reason you dragged her in to care for her, the nature of the world would be thrown out of balance if she took too long to heal, it had nothing to do with her in the slightest, she did not take well to this. ♡

"You don't mean that baby," She shook her head back and forth pushing you away from her as you were trying to dress her wounds again for the tenth time this week. It was like everytime you rejected her she ripped her wounds open again but it couldn't have been on purpose surely. She was a bad flirt so surely she'd also be a terrible manipulator and you'd be able to see what she was doing if that was what it was.

"Elisha, just let me bandage you please?" You tried to approach again so you could push her down, if she got up all angry then it could increase her recovery time by weeks again, perhaps you should have said it with a bit more tact but you didn't want to lead her on.

"Y-you didn't mean it baby." She allowed you to push her back down onto the bed smiling happily as she grabbed your hand and nuzzled it. "You don't mean it."

♡ Despite how she'd calmed down, Elisha hardly spoke to you during week six, your word had affected her much harder than she cared to admit. You'd been a bit harsh, while it was true you did it for more selfish reasons such as keeping a balance, that didn't mean you completely hated her, you'd be rather sad to see her go. The silence didn't last long though as a bandit wandered into the woods hellbent on ending you. ♡

♡ You couldn't die as long as you were within the forest, nor could your forest die, it could be burned down however it would grow back just as strong right where it had been as long as you remained, at the same time if you were stabbed your wound would heal in days so long as you stayed in the woods so you were unaffected by intruders and they couldn't even drag you out of the forest, you had to leave it of your own accord so you would have ignored them until you realized there was someone in the forest who could be killed and thus you rushed out in front of the bandit to lead them away from Elisha but they couldn't even chase because soon after they were speared down by her. ♡

"Baby! Why would you do that?!? I was so worried!" She collapsed in your arms, chest heaving wildly from exerting herself like that, you didn't even want to start thinking of how bad her wounds had gotten from running over to spear the intruder.

"It would have been okay, usually they stab me and run in terror when they discover that hardly effects me." It wasn't a good enough explanation for her, just because you wouldn't have died didn't mean you didn't feel the pain and she knew that quite well from her other experiences with immortals, you should have just called her to protect you, why didn't you just fucking ask her to protect you!

"Baby, I love you, I can't let you be in pain!" She heaved a bit as you lifted her arm around your shoulders to guide her back to camp, you were going to have to treat her yet again. "I'm gonna protect you from now on. I'll get better and protect you forever."

♡ The seventh week she stop moving and opening her wounds up again, you supposed so was determined to finally heal after that last attack though it did upset you it took an attack on you for her to start paying attention to her own wellbeing it was better than her continuing to rip her stomach open. Her progress was really good as soon as she actually started listening to you though she did request you not to go too far away from the clearing unless it was to go get water at the lake, you were more than happy to oblige that request. ♡

♡ She was much more charming when she wasn't clinging to you every second though you didn't dare say that, you really didn't want to lead the poor girl on. She talked a lot less too while she was healing too, though she still proposed every morning and every night before she passed out so you were glad she felt energetic enough for that. ♡

"Baby, I love you." You made the mistake of giggling and she mistook it for you being pleased with her affections, she reached out to clutch your hand, not sitting up though, and pressed it against her face again. She had a real fondness for nuzzling you, you'd noticed. It was a bit cute. "Go out with me if you won't marry me yet baby."

"Alright, I will." You weren't sure what made you say yes but the smile on her face was enough to erase your doubts, if things went wrong then she'd be healed up quickly anyways and you could send her on her way, despite how stupid she came off at times, she was a reasonable girl, she'd surely be fine even if you ended things abruptly.

♡ Her recovery had been slowed down from all those weeks of her fighting against it but after a full week of bedrest it had finally scabbed up properly, she could get up and walk around as long as she went slowly which came with her begging you to kiss her every five minutes and pouting when it wouldn't turn into a full blown make out session though she relented when you reminded her she wouldn't heal quickly if she exerted herself with things like making out. ♡

♡ You could tell she wanted to start following you everywhere again but she was holding back and mostly staying in her bedroll when you left the clearing, you were sad she was getting closer to recovering and thus closer to leaving you but at the end of the day she had to get back out there for the sake of the world again, you couldn't keep her in your forest forever as nice as it had been to have company. ♡

"My wounds are almost healed baby!" She was thrilled when she pulled up her shirt that morning and saw it was beginning to scar. You knew if she just relaxed it would be easy for her to heal up, things usually healed quicker in this forest though you were the only immortal thing here so they didn't have your extreme healing rates but it was still a drastically improved healing rate and as the chosen one you were sure the magic of the forest would work on her better anyways. You knew what she really wanted though.

"Just one kiss, you still can't put too much pressure on it." She rolled her eyes at your lecture but you could tell she wasn't all that bothered by it, taking your lecturing as a sign you loved her.

"I know baby, just come here now?" You tucked your hair behind your ear and leaned in for a brief kiss though she quickly pulled you closer for another one immediately afterwards.

♡ The ninth week of the summer was by far the hottest of the summer and so since Elisha was healed enough you invited her to come down to the lake with you again though you shooed the pixies away from it first so the both of you could skinny dip in piece, it was the first time you'd been naked in front of her for a good while though and since she was now your 'girlfriend' it felt just a bit weird. ♡

♡ She on the other hand was thrilled to finally be free from the heat, having to lay in bed and be wrapped in so many bandages couldn't have been comfortable in the summer heat so her focus on just being in the cool water did help you feel a bit less self conscious, she was your girlfriend though so you couldn't help but make just a bit of a move, still being careful around her stomach. ♡

"Lisha, please slow down, you'll hurt yourself." She pouted still trying to make out with you more aggressively meanwhile you tried to keep this session on the lighter side so the dumbass wouldn't undo all the hard work you'd put into her recovery.

"I want to kiss my wifey though baby, can't I please have that?" You closed your eyes so her pretty face wouldn't tempt you any further, this was for her own good as much as it pained you. You wouldn't do her any good to hurt herself and then possibly have to still be here in the fall rains, it didn't hurt you but she'd get even sicker, she had to get out of here before the end of summer.

"Not a chance, you fool." You smiled giving her a kiss on the nose and swimming away from her.

♡ Week ten she was fully ready to go but you couldn't bring yourself to clear her to leave, you'd send her away closer to when the summer was actually ending, you'd just barely became able to cuddle with her at night, you weren't ready to lose it so quickly. This was bad for the balance, you had a role to play and she had a role she had to play somewhere outside your forest, you couldn't keep her if things were to run smoothly but you wanted to bask in the fantasy for just a moment longer until she suggested you leave your forest with her when she healed up. ♡

♡ You could no longer pretend things would go on forever, you couldn't stay in the moment when this moment when it was a very brief flicker in your eternal lifespan, you couldn't leave your forest and she couldn't stay in your forest forever and so it had to end, she wasn't taking very well to you trying to end things however. ♡

"Baby you don't mean that! You're just scared of leaving this place but I already promised I'd protect you, it'll be okay!" She threw herself at your feet trying to get you to take back the break up, it wasn't true, you didn't mean it, you were just uhh scared for your futures together, you could make this work, please don't leave her!

"I think it's best you leave next week." You pulled your leg away from her deciding to go to the lake for awhile so you wouldn't have to see her crying face and feel you made a mistake. You loved her but there was an order to things, you had different places in that order, you were always doomed to fail.

"Baby, I love you!" She wailed watching you walk off, it's okay, she'd give you distance to get through your fears and you'd realize you were safer with her, there'd be no more bandits to attack you as long as she was around, it'd be okay.

♡ She thought you would apologize but the entire eleventh week she spent there you didn't even look at her, let alone talk to her and you brushed off all her attempts to converse and convince you leaving was the best thing for you to do, she had no choice but to begin to pack and hope something about her packing would inspire you to want to talk to her again. ♡

♡ You couldn't look at her, if you did you might give in to her charming face and that would throw everything out of wack, you were steadfast in your decision to stay here and if you wanted to remain steadfast, you couldn't look at your now ex-girlfriend, her being that pretty really was dangerous to the natural order of things, you were shocked she hadn't seduced more immortals away from their forests but maybe they just weren't as stupid as you and didn't drag a really pretty girl into their forest to treat their wounds. You'd be a lot less miserable right now if you'd left her be. ♡

"I'm leaving, baby, won't you please come with me?" She knew the answer was going to be no and it was all this stupid forests fault, if this forest didn't exist you would have came with her no question but it wasn't easy to get you to realize this forest wasn't worth your protection, she had to make you see just how fragile the forest was, why would you protect something that could be destroyed at a moments notice after, if your forest was destroyed you'd lose all your animal friends and then you'd really have to go with her, even if the forest would regrow in a year, you wouldn't be able to handle that much loneliness and she knew it so when you shook your head she turned and left prepared to get you to step foot outside this stupid place.

♡ It was the twelfth week of summer and you felt truly alone, not even your pixie friends could wake you from your stupor, you missed her so bad even though you'd burn that bridge awhile ago. It felt like week twelve and week thirteen just blended into themselves with how sad you were until you woke to the smell of fire one night on the last day of summer in your small forest. ♡

♡ Your home burned so fast you couldn't figure out what to do, rushing to the edge of your forest scared of the fire touching you, if seemed to be magical consider how fast your trees burned and while you would be fine if normal fire touched you, you were scared of the pain you would feel if it touched you, so scared you didn't question Elisha being camped just a bit outside of your forest who leaped up to get you when she saw the first spreading behind you in the distance, so scared you didn't even question how you'd willingly jumped from the forest boundary and into her arms. All that mattered was her promise to protect you. ♡

He seems nice enough at first, if a bit sinister in his black suit and mask, but maybe that’s just his aesthetic. Turns out, no, and we quickly learn that Bondrewd conducts horrific experiments on children for extremely vague reasons. I won’t get into the details, but suffice to say, the writing and animation really emphasize how terrible the process is. 

That’s super evil, but at least it gives the good guys a strong reason to kick Bondrewd’s ass. Unfortunately, we first have to listen to Bondrewd’s monologue about the importance of his experiments. Precisely why they’re important is left blank, possibly so the writers can come back and fill in a noble goal later.

Not gonna spoil the details but the claim no purpose is given for the experiments is completely, extremely importantly false. Revealing the purpose of the research is crucial to grasping the elementary plot points of the climax. They keep the reasons a secret up until close to the end to build suspense, but if you do not notice when they get revealed you lost out on the entire motivation of the arcs antagonist

Woke hayes code shit would be bad enough on its own if the self-appointed censor boards peddling it could be trusted with basic reading comprehension. Watching them fulminate against fiction where they cant reliably tell basic facts about plot and characterisation is nuts

like i said, i've been wanting to analyse these episodes in relation to eachother, so here it is :)

(i'm not pitting these episodes against eachother, merely comparing their similarities and differences, i love both episodes)

just for extra clarity, gjr will be green and cap will be blue :)

okay, so apart from obvious differences between the characters mentioned and the format and the genre of the shows, here's everything i have to say:

first off, both episodes are centred around an autistic character in the show (rick, abed) and focuses on an aspect of their autism, although the element they focus on is different, in gjr it's about a hyperfixation/special interest and in cap it's about masking/fitting in

another focus of both episodes is a dynamic change, however in gjr it's about a relationship, morty getting replaced by summer as rick's partner in crime, and in cap it's about a change in the hierarchy, abed replacing jeff as the head of the group

for the genre of the episodes, cap is mentioned to be modelled after a mafia movie, and while gjr does have some mafia movie aspects it has more anime aspects and anime is mentioned

there's also some pretty similar lines: "These were the good times." "This was the glorious time." "After that, things pretty much went back to normal." "Things went back to normal." "But you wanna know what they could never kill? Family." "But you know what they’ll never make a replacement for? Friends."

another pretty obvious similarity is that both episodes have voiceovers, a difference though is that in gjr, rick (the main foucus of the episode) does not get a voiceover, while summer and morty do, and in cap, abed (the main focus of the episode) is the only character that does get a voiceover, this is a less important point lol

also gjr is happening in real time, the voiceovers are explained by a sci-fi element, while cap is not actually happening in real time and ends up being a story that abed is telling the dean, which is how it explains the voiceover

as for the structure ig of the episodes, in gjr the episode starts on one topic (boob world) and rick autistically derails it to another completely different one (gotron ferrets), in cap the episode immediately starts with the one topic (chicken fingers) and abed autistically keeps it on that topic until the end, using it to his benefit

both episodes involve the whole group (the smith family and the study group) but in gjr everyone is only really following what rick says, and no one is as invested as he is, while in cap the whole group is pretty much equally collaborating, though it has a deeper meaning for abed. also in cap everyone kind of gets their own equal mini story but in gjr, rick's story is much more predominant than summer and morty's and beth and jerry don't get much of a story at all

okay, getting to the deeper shit, in gjr, rick seems uninterested in what the people around him are doing or feeling, his main priority is the gotrons and things like his own wellbeing and other's feelings are not his main concern, while cap is the exact opposite, the whole point is that abed does care, the whole episode is about something he's doing for other people to understand him, he's not as much literally interested in the chicken fingers. that's what drives cap, while it's rick's toxicity that drives gjr

additionally, in gjr in the beginning when morty sees that rick is beginning to get too absorbed he reminds him that "sometimes enough is enough", out of genuine care for rick, while it's not until much later in cap that jeff begins to suggest that they "hit the big red button", only out of jealousy. while i'm sure morty was jealous of summer, his main concern did seem to be rick's wellbeing because i think that we can all agree that this:

was not healthy

expanding on the last point, in gjr, summer is not worried about rick's wellbeing, but about rick liking her (not holding this against her), similarly in cap, jeff is also not concerned about how abed is doing, only about his own social standing, morty is the only character that actually seems to care about how his respective main character (rick) is doing

lastly, at the end of each episode the group goes running back to the person they shunned (jeff and morty) for being against abed/rick once they decide it's been enough/once rick's done with them

Well, actually, I think I heard the manga goes farther than the anime does? So. Maybe not. But I want my catharsis after all the time and feels I've invested in her emotional journey!

My dude, it is 2015. You need to sit down with Itsuki for a coffee and ask him about climate change.

Like. I get where he's coming from. Factory Settings confessed her love to him and then immediately dropped dead. Anyone would be freaked out over that.

I'm just saying, poor Yuki. She does not know the context of this moment. Minus that, I would be super offended.

Look at her trying not to cry while she apologizes for holding hands with the boy she likes, like it was a grievous personal transgression. The boy who, I should note, grabbed her hand in the first place rather than the other way around.

Yuki. Sweetheart. I'm so sorry this is your life right now.

I can't even be like, "Tell him, Yuki," because boy is grieving so that would not help. Things just suck for everyone in this moment.

We are actually doing a ninth episode of Eternal Eight.

I mean. In a sense, we've been doing a ninth episode of Eternal Eight since the previous episode. Still.

The audacity. I'm not even mad. I've been complaining about recycling material for the last two episodes but part of me admires the brazenness in going full stop, "Fuck all-a y'all, IT'S ETERNAL EIGHT AGAIN ASSHOLES." XD

Like. There is a logic to ending the series by revisiting the arc that caused Yuki to malfunction and eat Haruhi in the first place. I just. the context of it being this arc specifically.

They had seven years to make new Haruhi material. Seven years to think about the reception to the existing material, and make decisions for what they'd want to do in the new spinoff show. And somebody actually had the nerve to go, "You know what the fans really want? More Eternal Eight."

That is such a Fuck You move that I'm kinda here for it.

Mikuru and Tsuruya aren't here because the timey-wimey shenanigans put Ryoko here instead. That means we're probably not going goldfish scooping.

I do believe I said earlier that I hope everyone died in any cycle where we deprived Mikuru of the one thing she wanted. Sorry, gang, but you're all going under the nearest bus.

Itsuki's branching out into subtle metaphor. Kyon never retains anything Itsuki tells him directly so maybe giving him a puzzle to solve will make him internalize the knowledge better.

Will Yuki remember to buy a mask? And will they go goldfish scooping so they don't all have to die in a wildfire moments after the credits roll? These are the important questions of Festival Trip 9.

OH MY HARUHI she got distracted by a live performance of Will It Blend. FELT THOUGH. Holy shit, I miss those shameless commercials barely masquerading as an entertainment web show.

This is officially one of the best scenes in the franchise. Up there with the time she punched Kyon in the face. Mikuru is getting to enjoy life with no strings attached and got to violently assault one of her abusers. Just like punching Kyon, I could watch her backhand Tsuruya on loop for hours.

Now we just need a scene of her pushing Haruhi in front of a bus and she'll have a hat trick of retaliations.

Also, I still demand they animate the scene of her hurling Kyon down a flight of stairs. I need it.

Okay so we're still going goldfish scooping, we're just doing it without Mikuru.

Not sure if that makes me vindictive again or not. Because on the one hand, this was Mikuru's activity. We were only doing it because she wanted it.

But she's having a really good time watching Will It Blend. If anyone went over to fetch her for scooping, they'd go in the blender.

And also buy her a mask while you're at it. Failing to acquire a mask for Yuki may or may not also be a death-by-wildfire offense.

Legit thought she was going to be like, "If Yuki and Kyon are officially a thing now then that means you're up for grabs, right? 'Cause I call dibs."

But no. She is going to sort out her feelings with physical violence against inanimate objects.

This is way more believable than her OOC talk with Kyon earlier.

Also, by helping Ryoko sort her feelings with physical violence, Haruhi is nonetheless kinda calling dibs.

(In seriousness, I stand by what I said before regarding how, it may not seem like it, but the fracturing of their emotional codependency doesn't have to mean the end of Ryoko's relationship with Yuki. In time, it may even be stronger than ever for it.

Haruhi's definitely fucked, though. But. Y'know. Fuck her. She is my character and I say this with love but... get fucked, Haruhi. She will be better off in the long run for having learned to process disappointment, as opposed to the spoiled and entitled goddess who drugged Mikuru. This is the kind of thing she desperately needs in the original series.)

Now, all Kyon has to do is be open and honest with his feelings. Specifically, the feelings that I have decided on his behalf that he has, because he's never actually expressed romantic interest towards this version of Yuki but I NEED HIM TO IF THE SHIP IS GOING TO BE FULFILLED.

Which is how Melancholy handles him too. So it's fair.

So. Confusing. For Escapist Yuki who's passively receiving a love confession meant for a different version of her, though. I feel like she just became a replacement goldfish for herself. So many complicated feelings about this.

Oh. Never mind. I guess Yuki lost the Yuki -> Kyon -> Factory Settings love triangle. Sorry, gurl. But at least you still have Spacetime.

In seriousness, it makes sense that they don't clinch the romance here. Like I said earlier, Kyon is grieving. This episode is his opportunity to finally sort out his feelings towards Factory Settings, which he needs to do before he'll be emotionally available for anyone.

This is about Kyon getting closure. I'm sure there's probably much more manga to come before Yuki finally gets what she wants, if she ever does - I keep thinking back to the way her wishes are never, "I want to be with Kyon" but rather "I want to stay friends with everyone."

Still. I want nice things for her, dammit!

Being adopted as Haruhi's mom is agony. Ryoko will be thrilled to know she remains employed at the Nagato residence.

She got something better than a goldfish this time around. She is armed and dangerous. Nobody will ever mess with Mikuru again.

She'll blend your phone. Your personal belongings. The clothes off your back. You. She is a deadly blending warrior now and don't you forget it.

Look at Tsuruya's face. Feel how the power dynamic has shifted.

I'm mad that we end on status quo.

But also happy for Yuki because she got what she wished for all the same.

Complicated feelings.

"Happy... Birthday?"

There is an actress, who's been recently born into the Universe of the Screen. Just like those before her, she's been dropped into the Fictional Realm, where actors rest after long hours of work.

From the start, she's been doing well, a kind Sponge Fictional took her in and let her stay for a time being. That is, until the empire found her and finally put her to work.

The unfortunate actress, so young, so naive, never knew what she had coming. Her creators bestowed her such a heavy role, a mask of a monster. At first, she didn't know how bad could it be. It was just a character right? This was all just a game of pretend... Right? After all, she was made for this role, literally created for it. Surely it can't be hard. How bad can it be? It's just some woman who cares about animals and lost a loved one.

However, society said otherwise.

The empire hated her for it. Despise her for the role she plays, and for serving her purpose. They declared time and time again that they hated her existence.

"I'm an actor, just like you guys!" she said.

They stay away. They push her away, side eyed her and everything.

"I'm not like her, see?" she said once more.

Rolcist thrown things at her, hurled insults at her. After a long day of work, another Fictional wished she was dead, and another, and another.

Monster, lunatic, a deluded. The list of insults went on.

"... I'm just an actor," she pleaded.

"I was doing my job," she sobbed.

The void of hatred stared at her.

"What did I do... What did I fucking do..." She glared at her own hands. Hands, or rather, gloves of an abuser, a killer, a beast.

She tried to escape all of this, but couldn't. Or rather she wouldn't do it. For at least one Fictional cared about her.

On the fateful release of her first project, a mouse Fictional came by. He was, and still is the powerful leader of a far off kingdom. One they called the Disney Kingdom. For someone so small, so puny, he can pack a punch. Prior to all this, he's already walked through the path of blood and is still treading through it.

There he stride for his next victim, the Villainess.

For an actor who claims to know what's real and what's an act, the mouse can't help, but kill those of the villain role on sight. Every ounce of suffering and pain they been through in his hands was delicious to him.

Just as her part of the act reaches to its grand finale, the mouse shows his power. Blood spilled. Ice shards were erupted, jellyfishes were stabbed and so was her designated henchman. The actress playing as her daughter was trapped in his ice from the waist down. The actress, now in the corner, curled up into a cocoon in the hairstyle bestowed by her creators.

And so, the mouse approaches.

Okay so this was supposed to explain how the fuck it all led up to what's happening in the art, but ended up doing a little info/lore dump on what the fuck this Lus has going on in the daydreams as of late with probably a poor attempt of adding in some short storytelling elements. There's more to what's going on with both her and Mickey, but that'd take a while to cram it all into the post. So yeah.

Tldr: Actress has to play evil Poké waifu with a Jellyfish addiction, becomes besties with SpongeBob, gets an existential crisis about the nature of her role/persona because society shits on her for it (and Spunch taught her about morals too early), tries to kill herself to escape her vessel (but didn't go through with it), and gets a near death experience from a psychopathic mouse king.

Dw, she lives and all, just left traumatized and pissed about the Mouse Moment.

Anyways, happy birthday to Mickey and happy anniversary to the OG Pokémon SuMo games.

Note: Unlike the SpongeBob birthday painting, this piece is based on an actual event in the paracosm, a reoccurring scenario that's both an important plot point and something that stuck despite all the changes this paracosm goes through. I have to post this here instead of the casual account.

Update: Remember when I said she tried to kill herself? Yeah, I modified the lore a bit. Now her "escaping the job" attempt is now less of an actual suicide attempt and more like an attempt to quit her job/role as the character, which just so happens to be heavily tied to her life. She wouldn't immediately die if she's outside the meat suit, she'll just have to succumb to the pain to actually end up perma dying or deleting if she doesn't return to the meat suit.

There lots of video throughout the series in this post because I need to make a point.

HEY I just remembered a thing I was going to ramble about here a couple of days ago but I was tired after work so I forgot.

But we need to talk about something important here and that is ->

Kumo's Voice

Firstly, when one watches the series - when you first hear this man and for most of the series, while he speaks little (due to poor company) when he does talk he almost always speaks in near monotone.

Kumo speaks in damn near monotone for most of the series BECAUSE he is purposely forcing his emotions into a tiny bottle and trying not to feel ANYTHING due to how Chaos functions.

Kumo's voice is mostly monotone ON PURPOSE.

Chaos, the main enemy of the series and who the Unlimited are charged with fighting this eternal fight with - is a god like being that is basically darkness incarnate.

Chaos gains power by feeding on the negative emotions of living beings.

So the Unlimited both took an extremely different approach to how they were going to address this fact in the terms of their shared enemy.

Kaze - continued to brew in hatred and rage and basically just decided fuck chaos and that he wouldn't try not to feel those things because Chaos could choke on it.

Kumo - decided to handle this fact by shutting down every single emotional system he could ever possess - including the good ones - and decided that the best way to address this aspect of his enemy was to never feel anything ever again.

AKA

Kaze at "I don't fucking care about how Chaos feeds. Chaos can take my rage and choke on it." Kumo at "Can't feed off of my emotions if I don't have any."

Needless to say this went very very poorly for the Cloud.

As the series progresses you can hear the emotion come back into his voice little by little and then his brother shows up and all bets are off - the whole episode is a mess and we get this by the end of it:

Kumo's entire voice shifts the next time we see him to pure growling.

And from here he turns into a snarky asshole when encountering Kaze:

To becoming soft and polite with the main party and protective at the end of everything and sort of turning back to his actual voice by the last episodes - >

And I want you to take a minute and compare that "Get out of here!" to the previous "Heed my words, all of you. None of you will ever stand a chance against The Earl." From episode 4.

This is 20 episodes later.

Shit has happened. Kumo is not the same man he was when the series started. He's taken certain masks he was holding himself to and thrown them in the fucking trash. He's done with a certain level of bullshit and he's just not playing games anymore at this point.

Oh but then we get to THIS

(and this my friends is the last episode, so it is the most spoilery thing I can give you even though there's really no context to it)

We get to this RANGE in this man's voice - who has been damn near monotone and almost emotionless for the entire fucking series. We get to fucking THIS and I desperately need you to listen to this to hear him go from the first couple videos to THIS.

Kumo goes from dead monotone to THIS by the end of the animated series all because of all the shit that goes down and all the things about him that CHANGE. I can only imagine had After / After Spiral / After 2 gotten animated - the man's range would have gotten out even more.

My point in all this is - Kumo will destroy parts of himself in order to protect himself and the people around him and his voice is a prime example of that.

I'm also saying this because Kumo did something no one in his life currently has really caught him on yet or thought about.

Kumo destroyed his Misterican accent in the name of survival.

Living in Gaudium under The Earl / Chaos - meant Misterican was considered "speaking improperly" so not only did he need to learn Wonderlandian - he needed to learn to speak it with a Wonderlandian accent.

It wasn't like when he lived on Windaria with Kaze - no he can speak fluent Windarian but he speaks it with a Misterican accent - because he's Misterican.

Misterican speaks a lot from behind the ears and rolling Rs and rolling sounds in general. It'll come from the lower throat and the nose and it is fucking fast. There are some words that are words but are said in a way that makes them more of a sound and less of a word.

Kumo's accent that he should have from speaking his mother tongue is gone. He spent years destroying his own voice, just so he would be deemed as more acceptable to the people he was living with.

AKA Chaos and Company. His greatest enemy.

And then he took it a step further and after he tore his heritage out of his voice, he tore the emotion out of it too.

All in the name of survival and protecting those around him. Chaos can't pull power from his emotions if he doesn't have any and he can't get in trouble if he's not speaking "incorrectly".

This is part of why I keep saying that all of Kumo's words are important. It's not just in choice but in how they sound. The time in the last year he's been out of Gaudium has allowed the emotion to start to really settle in his tone again and thanks to the help of some people around him getting him to fall back in love with his mother tongue, his accent is just starting to peek back out too.
