It’s a pitiful excuse of a consolation prize for not being able to go to the Olympics, but Kailer’s not going to look a vacation horse in the mouth. The arena’s cool. It’s huge. The people are cool. There’s so many more of them than he thought there’d be with jerseys that have his name on the back, and a lot more that have the familiar orange and blue. He takes a picture of the fifth Oilers Yamamoto jersey he signs—this one’s the good Reverse Retro—and texts it to Connor, says,

and gets a moon face emoji in response. Leon’s influence. Kailer’s still never really deciphered what that one means, and he doesn’t think Connor knows either.

They don’t have a lot of time off between games, but Kailer’s trying to be a good tourist. His dad had been so happy when Kailer had told him about the series that Kailer’d had to stop him from trying to book a flight a year in advance, and his mom’s been just as bad, sending him every article she sees about Best New Spot in Tokyo! Cool Restaurant! Have You Seen This Japanese Cat Café? that she scrolls across on Facebook since June. Suzy’s in the same boat, so they’ve been crossing off their compiled travel-guide list together, looping in as many guys as they can. Everyone’s been pretty game. All the teams are crammed into close quarters at the same hotel, which means everyone wants to spend as much time as possible outside of it, and it helps that Kailer’s gotten pretty close with all the other guys that the NHL picked up as Global Series figureheads. Robo’s memes? Absolutely fire. The groupchat loves them.

For every item he crosses off the list, Kailer takes a picture and keeps it tucked in his phone notes. It’s like speed-running a scavenger hunt—they’re only here for four days—but he’s doing a pretty good job. His favorite so far has been all the gardens. They’re stunning, trees shining bright red and yellow, and every vendor has been selling maple candies, maple cakes, and even fried maple, though the official maple festival doesn’t start until next week. The second garden he visits, he does it on his own after practice, buying two cakes from a cart near the gate and walking until he loses the bustle outside. It’s easy to get lost in the winding pathways, heading deeper into the quiet, and there’s dozens of benches underneath the burnished leaves where young couples are tucked away on dates, or old friends are laughing and catching up. In some of the little clearings, there’s small shrines where people leave offerings, a prayer for good luck or good fortune.

Kailer stops at one without any people and sets the second maple cake on top of it, then sits and scrolls through all the texts that he’s missed. His mom gets replied to with a picture of him outside the garden gate, grinning and surrounded by other travelers. He sends his brother a picture of a trashy graphic I Love Japan t-shirt with the threat that he’ll buy one for him, and Kailer’s dad gets a picture of the meticulously arranged and cut bonsai that are across from the bench where he’s sitting. The Seattle groupchat gets a recycled meme from Robo, and he gets two thumbs up and an “LMAO” before he can even exit the thread. Finally, Kailer takes a picture of the half-eaten maple cake in his hand, holding it next to a fallen maple leaf on the bench, and gets halfway through typing another message before he thinks better of it.

(On the plane over, Drieds was reading them a story about how when they first introduced the high-speed railway, people were afraid to use it because they thought it would be too fast for their souls to keep up.

“Bro, if that were true, you just left your soul in the middle of the Pacific,” Ebs had laughed. “Planes are faster than trains.”

“Are they?” Matty asked. “Isn’t the train in Japan the fastest in the world?”

Drieds couldn’t make it through the rest of the story over the sound of everyone ripping Matty to shreds, so Kailer didn’t get to ask whether or not they found out anything about planes. Kailer’s not worried about his soul, but the logic makes a strange kind of sense; after all, he traveled 429 miles in five and a half hours once, and that was a little too fast for his heart to keep up.)

Fuck it. Kailer’s been trying to write a response for the past ten days, and he’s sick of swiping in and out of the message, staring at the keyboard so long he starts to see swirls in his vision.

Kailer drafts the text again and sends it, no context, no caption. A text travels faster than a high-speed train or a jet. Maybe it’ll pick his heart back up on the way.

My name is Rose. I’ve been in the fandom here on Tumblr for close to a year now. Plenty of questions come towards me every single day varying topics from the following: How do I grow my account? How do I even start writing? What should I know before posting?

In this post, I would like to address as many things as possible for new people or just people who are feeling a bit lost. IT’S OKAY. I was you too at some point! I still don’t even know how to work everything either!!!! Links for tutorials will be included as well! Thank you to @muwapsturniolo and @sturnioz and @sweetshuga for these tutorials as well because tech makes me wanna choke on light bulbs.

Making your account before posting can seem overwhelming. You have to recognize that any theme can be changed, any tags can be edited. It is not the end of the world to make a mistake! 

Let's get right into it . . .

– Tag your work correctly. If it includes smut, only tag smut. Examples of this would be “sturniolo smut” “chris sturniolo smut” and etc. Same goes for fluff and angst. Look at the way other people tag their posts to find which tags to use. 

– If you got inspiration from another post, tag the creator of that post! I promise it is NOT a bad thing. In all honesty, it helps your work do better. Most writers are flattered when you take inspiration from them RESPECTFULLY. They are way more likely to reblog, hence boosting your account and post!

– Make a pinned post for a masterlist or navigation. It is a lot easier to figure it out at the start rather than later down the road. Find masterlist tutorial here. Find a tutorial for linking tags here.

– A taglist is complicated. Tumblr isn’t always the best at making sure everyone truly gets tagged. Sometimes it is the users fault when they do not have @ mentions on in settings. The way to make sure people truly get tagged is pretty simple. You can find a tutorial here. Basically, you enter 5 users at a time, hitting enter and repeating until you reach 50 users. At that point, you will need to make a separate post for a second taglist. 

– Your theme. This is very personal. You can pick any color, designs, and pictures you want. Lots of people like to do custom fonts, others like to do custom colors for their texts. There’s an endless amount of options and you will just have to mess around but you can find tutorials for each here: COLOR / FONT / DIVIDERS

– Gaining traction is hard. You need to write well, but this doesn’t mean it should sound like a book. At the end of the day, people don’t want to google what a bunch of different words mean. Make sure that the plot is understandable from the perspective of someone just reading it. If people are confused, they will not want to read it. 

– Another point with getting more growth is being unique. People need to be interested in order to give you a chance. My first fic to get a lot of attention was “Glazed Donuts.” It was related to a recently posted video from the triplets, had an interesting title, and a unique plot. 

– More than just your work needs to be unique. Your account should feel like you, people wanna be able to tell the difference between people just by the aesthetic. Find dividers, gifs, symbols, etc. Anything that matches your vibe and is unique will peak interest! 

– Coming up with ideas can be hard for some people. You need to find what inspires you. Music, pictures, videos, anything! It’s a personal thing to figure out and at the end of the day, there’s plenty of prompts listed on Tumblr for any fandom and any fics. 

– Interact!!! People will not interact with you if you don’t feel like a real person. Most people are scared to reach out or make the first move, but it’s crucial in order to be a part of the community and for your work to actually gain more traction with reblogs and comments. Go into people’s inboxes! Comment on their posts! Get excited so they get excited with you!

"Pretty mouth that makes too many pretty noises…” He slurred, almost like he didn't know he was saying it out loud enough to put in the effort to enunciate.

“K-Kim?” Porchay stammered, the movement of his words making Kim’s thumb slip forward until it was almost touching his tongue.

“Pretty…” Kim couldn’t help repeating, pushing it the rest of the way forward, groaning when Porchay’s tongue flinched back for a second before instinct seemed to take over and he licked at the digit, a moment later taking it even further and closing his lips around it and giving it a shy suck.

♻ A scrapped idea for your current wip-

There was a more messy version of events planned originally for I Just Want To Stay Here, where instead of Chay catching Kim on the phone with Chan, he was able to keep the mafia stuff a secret longer and started to kinda have a crisis about what to do cuz he couldn't just keep being a creep and hanging around a teenager's house "taking advantage" of him indefinitely, he either needed to stop lying and come up with a more permanent solution for Chay's safety or lie more and break things off AND find a permanent solution he could keep secret. His emotional messiness is visible to Chay who also gets angsty cuz he draws all the wrong conclusions why Kim is being weird.

With this set up when the truth came out and they ended up at the compound, Kim was going to be a lot angstier and emotionally unstable, especially cuz he hates being at the compound and feels super guilty for dragging Chay into Theerapanyakul Mess, so he shuts down emotionally and Chay is caught between angsting for his own copious reasons and wondering why Kim is so different now that they are around his family and not at his house. Does he not want something real and out in the open, did he only want Chay when it was a secret? Is he ASHAMED of Chay?

It was going to be super fun to torture both of them way more, but by the time I got to this part of the plot, honestly it just didn't fit anymore, they were way too bonded and in love, not to mention had learned to communicate and open up to each other too well for this to work. Plus the reveal I came up with was just, mwah too perfect.

Oh god SO MANY to pick from, I have a ridiculous amount of fic ideas sitting in various google docs or notes on my phone that I have no idea when or if I'll ever get to them. I guess the first one that comes to mind is the sequel/prequel to Where You Fell. I technically have started it in the sense it has a tentative name (These Days You Tend To Lie) and some ideas I've already had, but I've never actually tried to Start it yanno?

I have only a Very rough idea of the plot and also whose pov it would be in, an important choice since the changing povs that never switched to wwx was one of the best parts of wyf in my opinion, but I'd been playing with ideas for a prequel way before I even finished wyf.

It would be set years in the past and be about Jin Guangyao and the story of how 3zun got together, with interspersed flashbacks to all their childhoods like wyf has AND flashforwards to events after wyf like an almost-sequel-epilogue kind of thing. It would be a great way to explore jgy and nhs more which I Really wanted to do (and honestly the mostly unfair hate they got in comments on wyf just made me want to do it even more) AND (yes I'm officially rambling now lol) I could show how chengsang's relationship healed after wyf.

Plus honestly I've always been dying to write a 3zun fic but no other idea I've ever had seems good enough. It would be a HUGE project so idk if I ever will, but it is there, sitting in my backpocket, Waiting

I was thinking about silly bird things that the Starborn characters would do, and came up with ideas for the type of nests/rooms they would all have. Most of this is hypothetical, as a lot of the Starborn don’t actually have rooms where they live. Since they’re not super important to plot, I thought I’d share! (Some TSAMS characters might be missing, that is intentional!)

Sun

He would have a big nest, something way too big for just one person but covered in blankets, plushies, and generally soft things. He likes to be warm, so definitely thick blankets and pillows. He would have a lot of cat themed things too. Probably a rectangle mattress, it has just a little more room than a round one. His room would be extremely clean, all of his stuff would be, but he has a lot of clutter. He tends to save everything he gets from the children he helps. Cat towers/beds for his familiars when they don’t want to sleep in the bed with him. He does save the feathers he loses, he has a few specific pillows he puts them in if he’s not saving them for jewelry, but he currently does not have anyone to share them with. He used to keep a wolf plushie with them. It is no longer there.

Moon

The bare-bone basics, and he’s probably had the same set up forever. Rarely actually sleeps, doesn’t see a point in having a nest he’s never going to use. He’s also aroace, there’s not really anyone he’s trying to impress with fancy looks. He’s got old feathers all over the place, but it’s just because he doesn’t pick them up.

Earth

The biggest collection of squishmallows you have ever seen, plus a lot of handmade things. Knitted blankets and plushies, handmade crafts, lots of plants of both the fake and real variety. Circle mattress, she thinks the shape is pretty. She even has a heated blanket for when Monty comes over, since he is cold-blooded. She would need a walk-in closet for the amount of clothes she has, it’s quite the collection. There even stuff in there she can’t wear with her wings. She plans to either sew them to fit or just has them because she likes them. Lots of pastels. She gives handmade feather jewelry to all her loved ones, but Monty definitely has the most.

Lunar

He would probably just have a nest made of beanbags if his family let him, lmao. It’s a small round mattress lined with beanbags. Not a lot of blankets, they’re too restricting, but lots of pillows and plushies. Somehow always wakes up in the weirdest positions and his plushies all over the floor. He doesn’t use his room much, so the other side of the room is set up for his familiar, who he calls Spigot. He’s like Moon in the fact that he has loose feathers scattered around, but it’s not as bad as Moon and he does start keeping some of them after a run in with a certain Astral.

Solar

Also pretty basic. Round mattress, sheets and a comforter, couple pillows, a few knitted things here and there. He doesn’t want to lose the bracelet Earth gave him, so he keeps in displayed in his room. Most of his decor is either from Earth or Lunar. A few fake planets he doesn’t have to remember to water. Honestly, most of what he owns isn’t his, it was gifts from his family. He’s, not quite sure who gave him his googles, but they feel extremely important to him.

Eclipse

He lives with Y/N, and they share a room. It started that way at first so Y/N could keep an eye on his injuries through the night, and he just kind of started making himself at home. Massive round mattress, honestly shocking that this thing could be ordered from a human manufacturer. Eclipse does not like feeling small, so he doesn’t like shrinking down just to sleep. His feet often still stick over the edge. He doesn’t sleep under the comforter, doesn’t like feeling restricted either and his wings suffice. He does hoard things he likes, lots of very shiny things. All of the pillows and even some of the mattress are full of his feathers. He hides those things around the whole house. That’s his. No one else can have it. (Y/N also has many feathers, they are allowed to keep any they like :] this man is a massive flirt )

Solar Flare

Flare likes to keep blankets specifically, and has a similar situation to Earth and Sun without the handmade things. He typically goes for the giant plushies. A lot more of his plants are live. Also likes to keep his room unusually warm. He has curtains around his bed, the translucent mesh. It helps him feel more covered without making it dark. He hates the dark. He has LED lights on the wall along with fairy lights and lamps everywhere. Likes lava lamps, they’re fun to watch. He doesn’t have feathers, but he does collect them from outside from wild birds. Birds are his favorite animals.

KC

Goth-royal core. There’s like, levels to his room, each separate by another layer of silk curtains. He has so many shiny little things decorating his space, very obvious that this man has crow instincts and hoards any cool or pretty thing he finds. Definitely lots of bones. Not really a mess, but he has a lot of stuff. He is another case of “why is the bed this big”, and it is pitch black in there once you close the curtains. He does have a lot actually on his bed, but he does do the same as Eclipse and fill all of his pillows with his own feathers. He has to make the most comfortable nest he can for his Lily <3 (An OC who plays a big human role in the story!) His feather jewelry is very intricate, he takes his time making something people will feel jealous of.

Bloodmoon

Despite Bloodmoon technically being an unsplit pair, they hate separating. They pretty much share all their stuff. It’s a mess, nothing has a set place, there’s ripped pillows and loose feathers all over the floor. They don’t even really have a mattress, it’s just a mass of blankets they never actually use as blankets. There are bones all over the place. Some of it was stuff they found … but most of it was alive when they brought it in.

Gemini

They have three beds. A small circle mattress for when they are Gemini and a bunk bed. They fight over the top bunk all the time, but Castor is a good brother and lets Pollux have it. Lots of starry decor. Pollux has a lot of plushies, Castor has a lot of pillows, and Gemini has a lot of blankets. They are not allowed to keep their feathers, Creator’s orders. Astrals simply have too much power to let any part of themselves get in the hands of other beings. They don’t get to spend a ton of time in their room, they are very busy, so there’s not much in there.

Newton

OC character! The newest Astral of the group. They are meticulous in how their room looks, very silver and monochrome. What little color they do have really pops against the duller surroundings, and is typically star themed. They have a loft bed, they don’t like sleeping down low. It’s kind of a corner bed attached to a circle bed. The lower portion is covered in curtains and has a comfy area underneath though. Most of their plushies and pillows are hidden under there. They also are a big fan of birds, but don’t have a large collection of feathers like Flare has. They also have a familiar, reminiscent of a harpy eagle.

A Bit of a Conundrum

I've been waffling about this for a long time, and as I've already vented about it to my discord, I wanted to open it up to a possibly larger audience of my readers. And also complain about it more. XD I write. A lot. I have. A LOT of writing. We're talking like more than 2 dozen wips sitting in my google docs, some with 14k, some with 114k words in them. Some with a specific ending in mind, some with no plot beyond what's already written. Fuck dude, some aren't even Sterek/TW! I was fortunate enough to have someone go on my ko-fi and do a monthly donation to me for a few months. They stopped, which I'll never be mad at, but having them there at all, having someone say "I'd like to support your writing just for the sake of supporting it" meant a huge amount to me, and it made me think about all of my wips.

I don't post often, or regularly, or..well at all, for months and months at a time. This is because I almost only ever post fics when they're done. it's a personal rule of mine, and not one I used to follow when i first started writing fic. It's one I came up with shortly after finishing "Wanted" bc I felt terrible and pressured when I had to take breaks during that fic and when I couldn't keep up with a regular schedule for people. And for a long time it was a good rule for me. It helped me not to feel pressured or overwhelmed by the worry of abandoning a project on ao3 and getting bombarded with comments asking where the next chapter is. But as I've continued writing over the years, my wips have gotten more numerous, while my posted work continues to trickle in. I'm a chronic long-fic writer (though my currently posted fics don't reflect that), which means it takes way more time for me to finish a fic than it does for me to get distracted coming up with a NEW idea for a fic. It's hard to finish work. But that doesn't mean I don't love my wips. They're incredible. Some of them contain some of the best stuff I feel I've ever written. Poignant words and phrases and meaningful moments. And looking around at them, I realized that anyone who goes to support me on my ko-fi, or considers following me on Ao3, or even just subscribes to a series, isn't really getting to see what I"m actually doing. They see a fic posted every 9 months, or every year. There's no real indication that anything they do is helping me regularly, that they're even supporting a Current Active writer. In light of that, I've been considering starting to post wips of mine. The problems with that are numerous and a bit overwhelming, hence wanting to hear others' opinions and vent about it ad nauseum. I've got lots of wips, and if I were to start posting them, I wouldn't want to toss the whole wip out at once. But posting a chapter at a time every few days or even once a week, while it would mean a lot of content coming out, it would be a lot of content that I haven't finished. Cliffhanger chapters, and unfinished stories that I can't promise would ever be finished. And I know I don't owe my readers anything, but it's still unsatisfying to post something without an ending. Then there's the absolute overload of possibly too Much content for people. Getting an e-mail every other day about a new chapter for a fic you've no interest in reading isn't fun. And on top of all that, is the editing. Often when I'm struggling with a fic, I find that i need to go back and change the beginning. In honesty, part of why I wait to post until I'm finished with fics is bc semi-regularly I'll get to the end of a fic, go back to the beginning and edit it all over again to make it more cohesive. To me there is no such thing as a 'finished' chapter. only a finished fic. If I posted as I wrote, then I'd either not be able to go back and edit chapters, or if I DID go back and edit my chapters, they would then need updated, and people who'd read the first 4 chapters of something would end up needing to reread the fic to get the full sense of what I'm doing. But at the same time, posting my wips would mean finally getting to share some stuff that's been gathering dust for years in some cases, finally getting to see people's reactions to them. Finally getting to know that even if I don't end up finishing it, at least people can enjoy what's already been written. And of course, finally getting to show people that when they support me through donations or comments or what-have-you, they're supporting an Active writer, supporting work being made every day, even if it's not FINISHED every day. All of these things are stuff I'm trying to take into consideration, and it's been a hell of a struggle. Plus, as I'm unfortunately trying to manage doing a part-time job rn, just getting up the energy for this stuff is a big BIG task.

For the ask game I am curious about 20, 23 and 24 (yttd and undertale)

20. your very first fandom!

My first fandom was Fairytail and gosh I have so many memories about it. While I have my reservations about fanservice and story plot holes, the power of friendship actually (mostly) made sense and the found family that is the guild is very sweet. I was mesmerized by all the magic types and many likable characters. I even used to tell fanfics to my friend who got me into it (yes, "tell" because I had no idea what fanfic was, so I just imagined random stories. I never thought them out or finished them but it was incredibly fun).

However, I didn't really see the fandom until later, when third season came out. It was light-hearted, memey and fixated on power scales and ships. I didn't exactly join it because I never interacted with anyone (given some hot takes of mine maybe it's a good thing) but there was plenty of material to read and analyse. And I was obsessed so I count it as my fandom

Also my second most powerful hyperfixation, Freed Justine. It was awkward waiting for this guy to appear at least somewhere while majority of fandom was into ships and main characters. But then I saw that someone wrote fanfics about him, there were plenty of fanarts. My thirst for information was more or less satisfied. He became so inspiring that I ended up creating oc based on him (partly because I didn't like his canon character development but hey I shouldn't be negative here)

Dungeon Meshi seems comforting for some reason, maybe due to Senshi (that's his name, right?) and how he promotes healthy eating habits. And memes about characters being different kind of autistic. If I join this fandom know it was power of autism all along

I know some events from Omori but not the whole story. I heard it's depressing so I don't want to be sad, I have real life and yttd already. But at the same time I'm intrigued by its fighting system and well, sometimes I'm attracted to tragedy

Parties are for losers is something I have googled and read about but ultimately I didn't watch anything. So maybe once I'll finally give it a try

And I have read a bit of school bus graveyard but I decided that one hyperfixation is enough. Even though it is an interesting webtoon.

24. how has fandom positively impacted your life? (Yttd)

Right now I adore our fandom! It is so cozy and funny and I'm glad to be part of it! Honestly, before I began posting I was afraid of hate or that my takes were wrong etc, but people were far more accepting. I argued only once about my opinions and even then it was a civilised discussion. Some tumblrinas followed me, I followed back and I got to know those people better. So even if my life is hard I know that there are people here that care. It's heartwarming to know

If I'm talking about yttd as a game it's going to be too long but in a nutshell it really makes me think. What is good, what is bad, what is justified? What makes us human, what is weakness and what is strength? It is not black and white, yttd shows how different perspectives define our understanding of these concepts. And one of many conclusions I've come to is that we should believe in ourselves and try to stay true to our beliefs as much as possible

Also, English language practice. English is nowhere near my mother tongue so I make ungodly amount of mistakes. But with practice I am improving little by little. And I'm grateful that there's absolutely no semblance of hate due to grammatically incorrect sentences and the like

24. how has fandom positively impacted your life? (Undertale)

I didn't actively participate in it but it was so creative! So many AUs, so many ideas. I loved listening to musicals (which also helped me understand English orally). I am still inspired to do something like this. I dream of creating musicals for my favorite games (I've tried to write lyrics for battle of wits from Exit/corners but I have no idea if the result is fine). Seeing how you actually are able to keep your promise of weekly chapters, any tipps to commiting to a schedulde? I often think with all my free time I should be able to do the same with my storys but I just get burnt out or distracted and then self loath cause when I actually have the will again I have work responsibilities or other important stuff going on

Don't commit to an upload schedule until the first draft is finished.

Write to entertain yourself, not to meet a deadline.

Write as much as you can while the idea is new and exciting.

When soft writing and/or brain storming, I like to make a playlist specific to that story. The scenes I have that are tied to specific songs are the easiest to write.

Find the 1 hr on your days off that you have the most energy. (For me it's right after breakfast). Try as often as you can to write then. Even once every other week, is amazing.

It's okay to leave fics unfinished.

Your freetime where you rest is important

Listen to audiobooks in the same genre that you're aiming to write.

Whenever stuck, don't google, put < get there > and keep writing. When editing go back and either add to the scene or just cut it. 9/10 if I think a scene needs something to start it off, it actually doesn't.

DON'T COMMIT TO AN UPLOAD SCHEDULE UNTIL IT'S ALREADY DONE.

I write as much as I can while hyperfixating on a story without posting it. So the draft for the fic I'm uploading atm was finished three months ago. I started uploading when I had 16 chapters written (or 4 months of backlog).

I can't count on how long an idea will hold my interest, or if I have enough material to stretch it out over multiple chapters. (I only just recently got into one shots. If you look at my other fics, I average around 20 k for a 'long' fic, because I get bored). So don't hold yourself to a strict length. Write the important, most engadging parts, walk away, come back and make sure it flows.

The important thing is I'm writing to entertain myself. Writing for a self imposed deadline or to meet audience expectations always burns me out. (No amount of kudos or comments will ever combat that)

I work 3, 12 hr night shifts a week, so a lot of the writing I do is during downtime at work. I personally find it difficult to write at home and spend a great deal of time recovering from working. The body needs that time to recover and it took years of unlearning that rest and self care are unproductive or a waste of time. If your work doesn't allow you that luxury, have a place out of the house you go to for longer periods of writing.

The playlist thing is a lifesaver, never discount the importance of soft writing. I literally can not visualize things, so music helps me have an outline to plot out scenes or chapters (i.e. what tone am I trying to capture). Also works to reignte the spark of inspiration. The time I'm most active is the morning, but that time often gets eaten up by real life, however it's easy to budget a half hour of time to that peak writing time. Those lil bits add up. If you haven't made progress on something in a while, it isn't a bad thing that you've prioritized other things. The writing process should be fun. It's like playing pretend, but you get to keep it afterward.

It's okay to abandon fics.

I still reread unfinished fics people posted, because what they had up was full of passion. A lot of the fics I couldn't finish were either the scope of the story was too big for what I wanted to write or the direction I was taking the fic wasn't working. Crest of the Dragon was on a 6 year hiatus before I was able to come up with an ending I liked. I was surprised people who'd followed it and left tumblr came back just to congradulate me for finishing it. Your readers will understand if you have to step away from something for a while. Updating serially often puts fic writers in a corner, by having the WIP up for everyone to see.

Burnout is usually not from the writing, but the real life shit going on around us. It can take years to figure out the main source and how to deal with it. Mental and emotional rest are important. I'm a bit neuro spicy, so there are straight up weeks where I have to resign myself to not creating anything. Having the back log helps in those instances, since l typically make things in fevered burst and then have to recoop.

Recently figured out listening to disc world novels has helped with my SE fic. It has good examples of absurdest humor, world building and general descriptions. I don't have time to read, but a lot of audio books are free on youtube. If you really, really get stuck, seeing how a pro tackles things can help even subconciously.

<get there> is my new friend. I'm not big on writing non-linearly. For longer stories, I'll parse out the main story beats and then hope the characters develope in that direction. Sometimes they go off the rails on me, or a planned subplot gets scraped. So, for this fic, I had all the mystery reveals spaced out between the two storylines. For character arcs, I go on explorative vibes.

All this to say, writing for me is an escape, and most of the time I'm doing it when I'm in a position where my options are either be on my phone or write. If I got 15 min or more, I choose write. If I got a sentence out, that counts.

It doesn't have to be perfect, or finished, or written in a timely matter. It just has to be, as long as what you're writing entertains you. Worry about uploading once you're done with it.

I've already answered this but, for you, I have another answer which is not necessarily "weird" but that I think you'll appreciate. I spend A LOT of my research time for Midori Sour on Loki's outfits. I can usually picture what I want in my head (or, not picture, but vaguely describe). Once I have the general idea in my head, I tend to search it on Google to see if there are actual visuals that I can use to refine my description.

Loki's lace sleeveless crop top is one of the more recent examples. I knew I wanted lace, but not just tatted flowers. I figured Loki would wear a knife lace pattern, searched it out, and then found the one that I actually used in the fic.

Actually... now that I think about it, a fair amount of my researching is looking for visual references since I. just. can't.

Oooo. For a second, I thought this was what dream theme/plot would I want to write, but this... this is better.

Let's be honest here. I want a truly unhinged attack dog fic, one that digs into all the nuances of a relationship of that nature from both sides of the leash, and I would want you to write it.

In the last 10-15 minutes I seriously considered that Rupert would side with them after all. I genuinely had no idea whether the movie would take the natural route (it did) or have a big plot twist. [Film name redacted for spoilers] did manage to ruin itself at the very last minute, after all!

Rope has been on my watchlist forever, but the other day I looked up Leopold and Loeb on Wikipedia, and the mention of the film at the end of the article finally inspired me to watch it.

Once again, I don’t really have anything special to say about a Hitchcock film. This one didn’t shoot itself in the foot, thankfully! It was pretty much what I expected.

Surprise: a Hitchcock film is suspenseful! I was genuinely nervous despite not sympathizing with the murderers. Especially during that shot of the food being cleared off of the chest…

It took me some time to catch on that the weird blackouts on characters’ backs were the means to disguise the cuts, and the takes were extremely long. Really enhances the theatrical feel! Nice darkening evening sky effect in the background, too, though the clouds looked distractingly fake. The lack of cuts and the visibly fading daylight were quite successful at creating the feeling that we’re watching the events in real time.

I like how much of the dialogue references the murder, and only half of the participants understand it. “These hands will bring you great fame”!

What I didn’t expect was the Dostoyevsky of it all. Inappropriate rants in a crowd of colorful individuals? Discussions of the right to kill and to dismiss the ethical norms? A guy on the verge of a nervous breakdown, screaming crying throwing up throughout the whole thing? Sexual transgression that the characters try not to talk about directly? I’ve seen this somewhere before!

Obligatory review section: “accidental marathon, i.e. similarities with the last movie I watched before this one” (or, in this case, the last one I watched and liked). This time it’s unconventional toxic couple having arguments in a room for an hour and a half. Oh wait a second, I didn’t even realize! The actual last movie I watched starred Cary Grant, who was mentioned in this one and was, according to the internet, offered the role of Rupert.

Rating: something between 9 and 10 out of 10.

But is it though? Is it really the entire point?

Ok, so, question. Would the movies be worse if the dinosaurs were accurate? Would it fundamentally break a plot point so bad that the film just wouldn't work anymore?

Well, no. At no point in the entire franchise, even the books, would the story not function due to the Velociraptors having feathers and being correctly called Deinonychus or the T. rex having lips or the Triceratops having scales inside of elephant wrinkles and colors beyond concrete gray. Their inaccuracies are not intrinsic to the plotlines.

First off, the franchise at first did not imply the dinosaurs were any different than the real thing, at no point does a Paleontologist point out any differences from the real animal and in fact the knowledge of the dino-experts is always proven correct by the living dinosaur's behavior. The only exception is them changing sex, which did not imply the Raptors were mutant frog monsters, it was there to hammer in the unpredictability of untested progress.

You mentioned the book, but that scene contradicts what you're saying! Wu was worried because the dinosaurs were too accurate, the ones they cloned acted and looked too much like real animals, not that the genetic tampering was making them inaccurate.

This really started with JP3, with Alan's "theme park monsters" line, and that's to showcase Grant as an opinionated and old-fashioned grump, because that's how the film wanted to depict him, not an actual fact about the creatures on the island. Case in point his later "my God, I'd forgotten" and astronomers vs astronauts speech, plus that his prehistoric reconstructed vocal chamber lets him talk to the modern clones. The idea that the differences in designs and real science being genetic editing was always a fandom head canon.

We really start to see the excuse used in Jurassic World, and that's just what it is, an excuse to not have to put feathers on their new marketable raptor squad. If anything, Jurassic World would be a better movie if it had more accurate dinosaurs, because if every Theropod is an oversized, spiky, gray, snaggle-toothed monster than the Indominus feels less special. Her design wouldn't be as boring if she was being intentionally contrasted with colorful and interesting accurate animals. The whole "they're not real dinosaurs but defective hybrid clones" has always been an excuse, not a plot point.

That's the main problem why people hate this line of thinking and why we keep talking about accuracy, because the franchise used to put effort into making their dinosaurs look good but now it uses this flimsy excuse to make ugly and boring dinosaur designs. There are free Roblox games made by teenagers in their free time with better looking dinosaurs than the multi-billion dollar franchise and I fully believe it's because the creature designers they hire get told not to bother doing anything but a quick Google image search as the dinosaurs they're drawing aren't meant to be accurate anyway.

Plus the JP franchise is, for a significant chunk of people, the only interaction they ever have with the science of paleontology. Man, Spinosaurus is one of the most famous extinct animals ever and that's from it appearing in a sequel nobody likes and made the least amount of money in the series. These films have reach, so when you love dinosaurs and you want to see them on the big screen, only to get slapped by ugly gray blobs of spikes and wrinkles and then have to deal with the fact that this will be the only way most people will see these animals from now on, I hope you can understand why we tend to whine about it so much.

Plus the excuse was completely thrown out with the Dominion Prologue, where we get to see what the "real" extinct creatures looked like in the Cretaceous period and they're all identical to the modern clones besides the T. rex having feathers, so even the movies don't believe this line anymore. Why keep peddling it?

My rant abt Jurassic park/world hate for inaccurate dinosaurs:

Tl;dr: Yes, the dinosaurs are inaccurate. That’s the entire point, they’re genetically spliced and it’s repeatedly brought up and mentioned, and examples of it are explicitly shown. It’s not a fault on the show or book, it’s literally the plot.

Did you even watch the movie or read the book

To be fair, the first movies didn’t make it too painfully obvious, but the books did a better job showing it, and Jurassic world 1 literally spat it in your face with lines like “that thing out there, that’s no dinosaur”, and the entire conversation about all the genetic splicing they did with the Indominus rex that basically gave it superpowers

Of course these dinosaurs aren’t accurate, they were never meant to be. They’re theme-park monsters. They’re spliced with stuff like frogs and lizards etc. it’s the entire story. As dr Henry wu said (from memory) “if these animals were pure many of them would look quite different, but you didn’t ask for reality, you asked for more teeth”. They’re literally canonically making the dinosaurs moreso to represent what people want to see, and expect, rather than what was true.

In the first book, Dr Henry wu and John Hammond even had an argument about this, with the sauropods. The sauropods were alert, and aware, and not slow moving and dull, like real animals, and Henry Wu was trying to tell John Hammond to change them to be more slow and dim to suit people’s expectations better. And from the film, the dinos are literally ripping abilities like sex change from the genes they’re spliced with.

NOTHING hints that these are remotely meant to represent actual dinosaurs, except for the fact they’re named them. That’s like the entire sub-plot.

And, in the newest film, where they were actually, y’know, making dinos again, with more advanced tech where they were actually trying to make real dinos for science, they made more realistic dinos! Boom!

Just annoys me when ppl are complaining about inaccuracy in the dinos: you buffoon, that’s the whole point. Buuuuuut it is a good convo starter with people who don’t know dinosaurs. “Hey did u know the raptors in Jurassic park have broken wrists?” “What.”

And I mean, ignoring the whole fact of it being part of the story, the first movie wasn’t made when accurate designs were known properly. They can’t just suddenly massively redesign the centrepieces of the show for no reason. They had a chance to change it for accuracy in JW1 cause they could say they made all new dinos, but it equally makes sense that they’re still making dinos similarly to the first park. Especially considering the amount of dinos they appear to have re-captured and used, like Rexy

Plus is it the end of the world to watch our fun lil nostalgic dinosaurs look cool and be badass, whether it’s accurate or not?

• What am I talking about?

During the last few days, the idea of making a LBP Movie hasn't abandoned my mind (Post 1, Post 2). However, being fully aware that doing it on my own is something basically imposible, I decided to call the Fandom/Community to achieve it. That way, the project will be more meaningful since we'll unite to make our collective dream true!

• Can I join even if I have no experience nor talent?

Who said something about experience or talent? Who needs that when we have dreams to achieve. Experience, I think no one here really has it (regardings the topic of movie making I mean), and about talent, I personally believe more in hard work than talent itself. So yeah, you can definitely join! A helping hand is always needed, wether it be something small or big, from mere ideas and themes to the animation itself, it's up to what you feel comfortable doing here!

• How is it being developed?

Status Update (21/02/2023): We currently have some ideas of how the story could progress, along with some character ideas and arcs. However, the details of each scene and such are still in discussion, but the general idea of the plot is pretty much stablished. We have voicecall meetings every now and then (which are announced with lots of anticipation) to discuss our ideas put in various Google Documents we have created for each purpose, so we can get to an agreement and move on.

If you want to be part of the brainstorming process but don't want to join the Discord Server, it's alright! Don't doubt joining the Jamboard (click here for more info. about it) to let us know what ideas could be introduced in the movie. hello, here are my rambly thoughts about the yellowjackets s2 finale, because i watched it a few hours ago and i'm just barely beginning to process it. cut for mega huge spoilers, obviously.

so the first thing i did upon finishing s2 was of course googling when s3 was due. and it was then i saw the show was planned for five seasons. this flabbergasted me, as i had totally assumed s3 would be the last. i mean, SO MUCH stuff had already happened. how much more stuff could possibly go down.

but once i had time to really take it into consideration, it... totally reconfigured my perception of the show so far. i suddenly realized that the first two seasons were little more than an interlude. an exposition. think about it: we saw each character in their own separate lives, dealing with their own separate dramas. only periodically, partially intersecting. and all their dramas, the budding conspiracies, the attempts to tie it all together -- ultimately, it all fell through. shauna's lover really was just a random nobody with no ill intent. the shady reporter was just an agent taissa hired to snoop around a bit. taissa's son is probably perfectly normal, and the only issue was her. travis really did just kill himself. they are all just sad, fucked up people, who were mostly fucking up their own lives.

this is because none of this was the real plot of yellowjackets. the real story in the present timeline begins in the last couple episodes of season 2, when they are all finally fully reunited. actually, to be more specific, it begins in that scene in the last episode where they embrace the darkness anew, and begin the chase.

this darkness, this thing that came from the wilderness with them -- whether it originated from within them or without, it is clear it is so much bigger than them. and that is the heart of the story, not cheating or blackmail or murder investigations: how these adult women will handle the darkness that almost wholly consumed them as teens. will they succumb to it? or will they rise up against it? that's what we're just barely beginning to see as of s2.

now, regarding natalie's death. the fact i am devastated aside-- i see numerous fans complaining, calling it bad or even malicious writing to kill her when she was the only character beginning to grow in an actually positive manner. and while i understand that it's frustrating and upsetting, it's also exactly what needed to happen. BECAUSE natalie was healing, she could not remain. BECAUSE she was beginning to build a life for herself and put the past, the wilderness, behind.

in fact, her death itself was an act of defiance: she broke their fucked up hunting game by sacrificing herself to protect someone outside their circle. yes, in a way, she did what the wilderness wanted. but in a way, she was also telling the wilderness 'fuck you'. she was resigning as queen. she was resigning as hunter. she chose humanity. she was ending the game. if the remaining seasons are indeed about those women stepping up to face the darkness head on, then natalie's refusal to participate, and her prioritizing a (healthy, untainted) connection to an outsider, meant she had to be removed.

i have no idea what the show holds in store. the thought that we're not even halfway through is dizzying. but i can say one thing with a fair amount of confidence: i do not for one second believe this is a show about healing.

sorry, natalie. you were doomed the second you started getting better.

There is a $1 minimum as $1 = 1 vote (If donation is in a different currency I'll go with the closest reasonable equivalent.)

Vampire!Shinichi. Working title: Different Means. This fic would also feature magicalblood!Kaito (he’s basically vampire catnip in this scenario, let’s be real) and would be rated E for sexy times as well as for violence. (Whump? You better believe it.) The idea belongs to @kiwilart and their friend, but I got real obsessed with it and they said it would be okay if I wrote my take on it : ) This would be a little bit of a longer fic. Probably with chapters instead of a one-shot.

Gay drama! Working title: runner. Kaito’s deeply closeted and dealing with some internalized homophobia and it’s ruining his and Shinichi’s relationship. Can love conquer all? Well this one’s got a happy ending, so yeah, I guess it can lol It will be rated either E or M for sexy times – not sure yet. I’m guessing this will be a one-shot.

Porn! Working title: It Was Only Just a Dream. Starts out with Shinichi having a sexy dream and Kaito having a bit of voyeurism. Ends with actual sexy times~ Rated E. No plot. One-shot.

Other porn! Working title: Rival Fantasy. Involving blindfolded Shinichi, a bit of bondage, and a bit of roleplay as sort of pre-relationship thief and detective (instead of the practically married couple they already are in this fic). Rated E. No plot. One-shot.

Any one-shot fluffy get-together fic. I’ve got a fluffy get-together G-rated one-shot that I could probably crank out pretty quickly if it’s what the good people want :) Working title: In My Dreams from the song of the same title by Ruth B.

Detective Conan Movie Cut Scenes: The Private Eyes' Requiem. Has it been two and a half years since I posted one of these? Yes. But that doesn’t mean I’m not still working on it. But now you have the power to say, “No more waiting! Give us Kaito’s perspective on the hostages in a theme park and detectives wearing bombs movie!”

Look, DS, I just want you to focus on the the next installment of the Fall into Flying universe! I’ve been working on Blackout for probably three years now, and I’m still only halfway through the eighth chapter. The pandemic messed me up for a while, but if the people decree, I will get my butt back on track and focus in on this mighty beast of a story! This one comes with the bonus factor of tumblr teaser posts every time I complete a chapter! The first seven are already posted ;)

Plagiarism alert! "Forever Red" by elle1975 (also known as Call_Me_Elle and elle_grey)

The short version:

"Forever Red" by elle1975 (as she calls herself on Fanfiction.net) / by Call_Me_Elle (as she calls herself on AO3, previously elle_grey) plagiarises multiple stories by multiple authors, most significantly my Black Widow origin story "Fearless".

Please support the original authors, rather than this plagiarised work! Your readership, comments and kudos deserve to go to the original authors who actually wrote the words and came up with the ideas, not this thief who just copied and pasted them into her story.

The plagiariser's modus operandi seems to be to "bookmark" the stories that she later goes on to plagiarise, so beware if your stories appear in her bookmark list.

Evidence of around 50 instances of plagiarism in "Forever Red" have been collated and can be found here.

The long version:

A while ago, I noticed that someone called elle1975 had left kudos on my Black Widow origin story "Fearless" on AO3. My username on AO3 is elle1991, so my interest was naturally piqued by this person with a very similar username, so on a whim I decided to check out their profile, just for fun.

What I found was... pretty creepy. Instead of it being an innocent coincidence as I had assumed, it looked like this person had deliberately copied my username and also the way I'd written my bio. What the hell?! I thought. This is super weird. Is this person obsessed with me or something? Why are they copying me?

I decided to check their stories and noticed they were posting a Black Widow origin story. Already feeling suspicious since this person had seen fit to copy my literal name and bio, I decided to give it a read.

Immediately, I recognised certain paragraphs and plot points as being very familiar - because I had written them! I felt sick. This was a story that I had spent a significant amount of time, love and energy writing, and this copycat had just lazily copied and pasted whole sections into her own story. Multiple people have told me, over the years, how much my story Fearless has helped them through difficult times in their lives. It is a story that means a lot to me and the people who it has helped, so it felt gross and distasteful that someone would seek to pretend they had thought of my ideas and take credit for my words.

As I was reading, certain other sentences jumped out as being extremely well-written. On a hunch, I copied and pasted these sentences into Google and what came up was sadly not a surprise. These sentences had also been copied and pasted from other people's stories. So far, using plagiarism detection technology, I've been able to identify four stories which have been plagiarised and incorporated into "Forever Red":

However, plagiarism detection technology is not perfect and will always result in an underestimate of plagiarism, since it does not pick up on all instances of plagiarism (because it relies on the original stories having been indexed by the search engines, which is not always the case). Therefore, there may well be other stories and authors whose hard work has been stolen by elle1975/Call_Me_Elle.

Here are just a few side-by-side comparisons showcasing examples of the plagiarism. In total, I was able to find 50 separate examples of plagiarism, which is far too many to post here, but if you would like to see them all, you can find them all collated here in this Google document.

As well as the above examples where she literally copies people's words, she has also copied multiple plot points and ideas from my Black Widow origin story Fearless, which were entirely original to my story and which I thought of using my own brain (because that's what real writers do). Original ideas that she copied from me include:

A mission to dress up as a sweet little girl with ribbons in her hair at an opulent mansion and deliver a letter on behalf of the KGB (to a Soviet politician in Fearless, to a German politician in Forever Red).

An original character best friend at the Red Room Academy named Elena (in Fearless)/Yelena (in Forever Red).

Madame B hurting Natasha to teach her that "pain is only temporary".

The premise of the entire chapter "Lessons in Seduction". Once the Red Room Academy girls reach the age of 16, Madame B tells them that they must learn how to use “seduction” as a skill to add to their arsenal. They must do this by watching pornographic films, and then they are made to have sex with a male KGB agent.

Elena/Yelena being killed in order to make Natasha more focused on her studies at the Red Room Academy.

Burning down a maternity hospital full of babies, and then her rival classmate (named Katerina in Fearless, Evgenia in Forever Red) tries to kill her on that mission, and then Natasha kills her.

Killing an MI6 agent by stabbing them in both eyes, and then carving a message into their chest with a knife to warn MI6 to stop snooping.

The Sao Paulo mission is to break into a heavily-guarded compound surrounded by a five metre(in Fearless) / five foot (in Forever Red) tall wall, in order to steal documents. The villain (named Ernesto Silva in Fearless, Pedro Pereira in Forever Red) knows in advance that she's coming and says he is "excited" to meet her.

Natasha wanting to be a ballerina when she grows up, Elena/Yelena wanting to be a writer when she grows up, Elena/Yelena wanting to go to the beach.

Pretending to be a supernatural being (an angel in Fearless, a witch in Forever Red) in order to kidnap the two children of a diplomat/politician.

Kidnapping the two young children of a diplomat (in Fearless) / politician (in Forever Red) and holding them in a secure location so that the KGB could use them as a negotiating tactic.

Breaking into the Kremlin to deliver a message to President Gorbachev, which brings about the fall of the Soviet Union.

When Natasha finally confronts Madame B as an adult, Madame B taunts her with the name she was born with (“Natalia”) and Natasha has a strong emotional reaction to this taunt, telling Madame B that that is no longer her name.

Madame B locking the Red Room Academy girls alone in a room with only a dead body and their thoughts for company, in order to teach the girls not to be afraid of corpses.

What has been elle1975/Call_Me_Elle's response?

When I originally noticed she was plagiarising my work, I left her a comment on Fanfiction.net asking her to remove or edit the plagiarised sections. She deleted my comment, contacted me privately and claimed to feel "awful". However, she did not apologise and did not accept any responsibility for her actions.

Instead, she gave the worst excuse ever: she claims to have a "photographic memory" and that she therefore remembers stories perfectly and "accidentally" writes them into her work because she thinks they're her own words. Which is complete rubbish, obviously, because if she really did have a photographic memory, she would be able to remember (in perfect, photographic detail) that she read it in another person's story and then copied and pasted it into her own work!

Nevertheless, if this is the position she's going to stand by, then the only solution for writers seems to be to ask her not to read your stories, so that your words don't end up in her "photographic" memory of texts that she then conveniently forgets were written by someone else.

What can you do to help?

Spread awareness by sharing this post. People deserve to know who the original authors are, so that they can read the original works and give comments/kudos to the original authors, if they wish. People also deserve to know that elle1975/Call_Me_Elle is a repeat plagiariser and that anything you read of hers may not actually be written by her.

Report her story(s) to AO3 and Fanfiction.net, if you find that she has plagiarised your work. The more reports the websites receive, the more likely they are to take action to take down the plagiarised works.

Be aware that her modus operandi is to bookmark stories that she later goes on to plagiarise from. If your works have been bookmarked by her, you may want to keep an eye on her works to see if she starts plagiarising from you. You could also try reaching out to her directly to ask her not to plagiarise from you, to unbookmark your work, or to tell her that she is not welcome to read your works.

Do you use a story structure? If so, which one?

You mean like setting out to write The Hero's Journey or something?

I'm supposed to be finishing a draft by Monday, and I spent all morning writing, so I am desperate to procrastinate and do literally anything other than write my draft by now, of course, so I will happily blather about my process. Haha.

Since I was little, I've read a ton of books that are very structure-focused, mystery in particular. Romance tends to have a canned structure, but mystery makes it even more obvious, especially if you read a lot in the same subgenre like Golden Age cozies.

I don't know if my brain was always like this or if a steady diet of Nancy Drew and then harder books made me like this, but I have a very instinctive grasp of structure. I'm on the extreme end of planner rather than pantser, so I outline everything to death, but my plotbunnies also come to me with a fair amount of workable plot already included.

Googling gets me a bunch of how-to articles, so I guess I do understand what you're asking, but when I hear the words 'story structure', I think of a descriptive framework applied after the fact. I look at structure while trying to analyze a work I want to imitate or when revising a story that isn't working well enough.

I do dimly recall trying to structure an outline according to some writing advice books years ago, and I did look at things like Three Act Structure at the time. I remember finding it awkward. Even the examples these books give where they wedge a famous movie into the structure usually confuse me. Why is X the end of act 2 rather than the beginning of act 3? It often feels arbitrary and subjective.

When I outline, I do often think things like "This is Agatha Christie pastiche, so it needs 2 red herring murderers before the real one is revealed". And then I go find 2 big red herrings.

That eunuch porn fic I was talking about the other day came to me as a plotbunny for the first chapter: Tang Fan has been captured by villains and is unsure if Wang Zhi is evil or not. Wang Zhi lets him know he's not by quoting Tang Fan's most embarrassing writing back at him since there's no other way to communicate in front of the villains.

It was, of course, an image from Romancing the Stone where the hero asks what kind of sick mind came up with the trap they're in and the heroine has to admit that it's from her own novel. I wanted that dynamic with Tang Fan and his canon love interest Sui Zhou who doesn't know he writes trashy novels. (For those who haven't seen Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, this is an actual canon thing. Tang Fan does the women's voices while he's reading his trash romance aloud to himself too. Best show ever.)

I wanted other POVs, so I quickly realized I would probably want three chapters, one from each POV.

I also realized that the big point of the fic is who knows what when, so the internal structure of chapters is entirely things like Tang Fan anxiously trying to figure out whether Wang Zhi is evil and then the climax of that or Sui Zhou freaking out about what's been going on and then the resolution of it being Tang Fan's idea after all.

But I wasn't thinking in terms of three act structure or anything like that. I was thinking in terms of individual emotional arcs and rising tension, then some kind of catharsis or climax, then rising tension about something else, etc.

I do think about the building blocks of structure, like inciting incidents. I find those parts more useful than trying to follow a canned whole.

Oh! I did try the snowflake method once, and it's similar to how I naturally operate but I found that trying to do a specific method actually just cramped my style.
