you shift into another position, again. The soft couch and cushions doing wonders for your back, but still, you couldn’t sleep in your favorite position. Just flat on your stomach, your swollen baby bump not even allowing you to sleep well at night, or take a nap in the quiet hours before dinner time. you felt like you were about to pop, but you still had five weeks to go before your estimated due date.
you had the gender reveal party, which consisted of your and virgil’s closest family members and friends. you both were having a babygirl, the nursery was already cutely designed with a pretty crib and dresser. the baby shower your friends surprised you with was thrown already a couple weeks ago, and not to forget the sweet babymoon virgil and you had gone on. the pretty islands in greece had been a beautiful sights to share with your husband.
the sound of a car parking in the driveway has you halting for a moment. your eyes drift over to the clock on your living room wall. it was past five in the evening already, which meant your husband had returned from training.
you slowly, but carefully get up from your position on the couch, sitting up instead. compression socks alleviating some of the swelling of your legs and feet, your eyes dart to the gray coffee table, full of- everything you could need when being half-immobile. tissues, multiple empty cups, a plate of lazily cut up pickles, a half eaten box of cookies-
“there’s my beautiful wife!” you suddenly hear, swollen, drowsy eyes looking towards your surprisingly very enthusiastic husband. his hands seemingly full of familiar takeout bags as he closes the front door to your home.
virgil’s high energy, even after his intensive training, manages to put a small smile on your face. you hear him take his coat off and wash his hands. so, you stand up, walking- no waddling towards him in the kitchen.
“hi, missed you..” you mumble, feeling him wrap his arm around your back, softly rubbing up and down your sides. you sigh in delight, leaning against his tall and muscular frame, resting your head on his chest. soft sweater grazing your sensitive skin.
“me too, baby.” he mutters, kissing your forehead tenderly.
“I got your favorite takeout. you’re hungry, right?” he asks, thumb rubbing your hips.
your eyes light up, and you nod eagerly. your pregnancy cravings were all over the place. from wanting your usual takeout, to a weird obsession with pickles and chocolate, and the most difficult of all: an icy, crispy red bull. since it wasn’t pregnancy-safe, you definitely didn’t risk it, but your mouth just watered at the thought of taking a sip of the carbonated, sweet energy drink.
“then let’s eat some food. I’m starving...” he says, guiding you to the kitchen island. he’d switched out the bar stools, shortly after your second trimester had started, exchanging them for chairs with a backrest, just for your comfort and convenience.
you watch him grab the takeout, unpacking the dishes.
“you got me the vegetarian one right?” you ask, raising your brows. virgil turns, nodding as he transfers stir fry noodles into a dish and slides it in front of you.
ever since you got pregnant, you detested the smell of meat. virgil being the sweet man he is, did research with his own nutritionist to see how you could still get all the vitamins and nutrients you needed without having to eat meat.
“here baby, eat up.” he mutters, giving you a fork, before walking towards the fridge. he grabs two cans of sparkling iced tea, coming back to sit next to you as you both dig into your meal.
“how was training?” you mumble, chewing down your food, maybe a little too fast.
“good, we were in the gym the entire day- slow down baby, the food isn’t going anywhere..” he chuckles, reaching into the takeout bag and retrieving the napkins. wiping sauce off the corner of your mouth with one.
you both continue eating the delicious food, Virgil’s hand soothingly running down your back every now and then.
“I’m going to take a quick shower.” he says, cleaning off the dishes and putting them in the dishwasher.
“can I join? can’t get my hair wet though..”
“sure baby, let’s go.” he quickly says, helping you off the chair and into the bathroom.
“my legs have been killing me..” you mutter, watching virgil take your compression socks off. you were glad you didn’t need them on your hands, though your fingers had gotten pretty swollen. prompting virgil to gift you a chain you could hang your wedding ring on, to wear as a necklace instead.
you allow him to guide you into the shower, his hand settling on the small of your back in support. virgil chuckles deeply as he watches your makeup melt off with the touch of the streaming warm water. he made sure to put on your shower cap beforehand.
“you wore makeup? where did you go today?” he asks, allowing you to reach up and take off his hair tie, dark curls falling to the side of his face.
“went for brunch with the girls. it was so good..” you answer, allowing virgil to run the soapy washcloth down your body, making sure to clean you up nicely. paying extra attention to scrub your legs, since you couldn’t reach down, you needed his help more often than not.
grabbing a fresh towel, he wraps you in it. allowing you to walk out of the bathroom and sit on your bed. waiting for him wash himself.
that’s what you loved about him, he always put you first. whether it was you eating first, getting dressed, falling asleep, or anything at this point in your pregnancy.
you quickly grab your undergarments and loungewear, going back to sit on your bed. towel wrapped snuggly against your body, as you take off your shower cap and wipe the extra moisture on the towel.
you look up to see virgil walk out of the bathroom, towel hanging on his hips. you lean back, admiring him, a small smirk forming on your lips.
“what?” he asks, smirk clearly on his face too as he walks up to you.
“oh, nothing, just admiring what’s mine..”
“really? let me admire what’s mine too then..”
he cups your face as you look up, his wet hair falling in front of his face as a single drop of water drips down onto your cheek. a low chuckle leaving his lips as he swipes it away with his thumb.
he helps you get dressed before the two of you get too distracted, not forgetting to rub bio-oil and lotion on your bump and body. the both of you snuggling up together on the couch. your head laying on his broad chest, tatted arm wrapped around your back.
You pause for a moment, feeling your daughter kick against your uterus. you feel virgil’s hand running against your clothed bump, you place your own hand next to his. feeling her kick was still the most out of body experience to the both you. you could’ve sworn you felt the outlines of her little feet as she kicked like didn’t want you to rest tonight.
“active today, isn’t she?” your husband asks, kissing your temple.
“just like her daddy..” you raise your bows, grinning. the consequences of having an athlete as your partner.
“she’ll definitely be as beautiful as her mommy..” he responds, causing your grin to grow into a bright smile.
“what do you want to watch, hm?” he asks, looking down at you, scratching his chin thoughtfully.
“love is blind, the new episode is out.”
he chuckles, his chest vibrating against your cheek as you watch him turn the tv on with the remote.
in the beginning of your relationship he wasn’t too keen on watching shows or movies like that, but the second there was some drama unfolding, he immediately got hooked and it became a thing you both did to wind down after busy days.
“wait- can you grab snacks?” you ask, looking up from his chest. you knew he couldn’t say no to you, because he looked like he had melted at the sight of your face already.
“your cravings are really going off the rails, aren’t they?” he asks, placing a kiss on your lips before slowly getting up.
“don’t see the problem!” you exclaim, looking over to see him open the kitchen cabinets and grab a bag of crisps and salty popcorn, transferring it into bowls before walking back over to you.
“here you go, for my hungry monster..” he teases, prompting you to roll your eyes playfully.
you both start watching the hour long episode, empty bowls on your lap by the end of it. though, you both don’t move from your spot on the couch, virgil’s hand soothing on your slightly aching, lower back.
“you okay?” he asks, your own hand resting on his bicep.
“back hurts a bit, baby’s getting heavy..” you mutter.
“I’m know, sorry love. do you need anything?” he asks, kissing your temple and rubbing your back more thoroughly. he had a tendency to ask what you wanted or needed, just to make sure he didn’t miss anything.
“just- can I ask you something?” you begin, holding back a grin. he’d done enough to make you feel comfortable already.
“yeah?”
“would you mind if I broke your fingers during delivery?” you chuckle, having a laugh. knowing he would probably let you squeeze the absolute life out of his hands.
“of course, during delivery you can squeeze and cuss me out all you want..” he smiles, brushing his thumb against your baby bump.
you did cuss him out, but breaking his fingers, almost…

Chapter 3: A Series of Unintended Events
Wordcount: 1.3K
~~~~
The pancakes are delicious, light and fluffy. Virgil only has two, because he did already have cereal and unlike Remus his stomach is not a bottomless pit into which he can pour an unending stream of nutrients. But they're delicious, and he's glad Calico convinced him to try a bit.
After breakfast, Virgil helps with the dishes because Remus still isn't up yet, and neither is Janus—probably still curled around him like a hot water bottle—and he has nothing better to do.
Princey meanders in after him, and despite having just demolished an entire stack of pancakes and a decent amount of scrambled eggs, starts rooting around in the fridge. He emerges with a plastic-wrapped plate of tiny pumpkin pies and leans against the counter to eat them directly off the platter, clearly pleased that the party having ended means he can have the leftovers.
“So you're the reason the chinese buffet has a twenty plate limit,” Virgil teases after Princey eats several in a row without pausing. Virgil had a few of those tiny pies last night, so he knows they're good, but Princey is absolutely chowing down on them.
“Hey, that was not my fault!” Princey protests. “Besides, a place that calls itself ‘all you can eat’ shouldn't even have a limit.”
“It shouldn’t,” Virgil agrees. “But I've never hit the limit myself, so I thought it was reasonably high. I suppose that a buffet operating in the same town as twin black holes would need to be cautious to protect their profit margins though. How much did you two pack away before they asked you to stop?”
“Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy,” Princey says. “Anyway, it really wasn't us.”
“No?”
Princey sighs. “No, Count Woe-laf,” he says. He is just too much fun to tease. “If my father is to be believed, it was actually him and a couple of his college buddies.”
Virgil laughs. “Oh, so it's definitely genetic, then!”
Princey chuckles, popping the last tiny pie into his mouth and setting the plate on the counter. Virgil takes it and rinses it off so he can put it in the dishwasher with the others. “Yeah. Dad says they absolutely cleared out the seafood section, and most of the mac and cheese, and ate a sizable portion of pretty much everything else. If you get him going, he'll give you a very long and probably quite embellished retelling of the many courses they had. They never got kicked out, but the next time they went, they were told that there was now a limit to just how much they could eat.”
“Ah, alas,” Virgil says. “I bet it was a fabulous feast, though.” He finishes loading the dishwasher and checks under the sink for soap. They have pods, which is very convenient for measuring, or rather for not having to do that. He pops one in and turns the machine on.
“So, if I'm Count Olaf antagonizing you, which Baudelaire does that make you?” he asks. “Not bookish Klaus, surely. Maybe Sunny? I think she could demolish a plate as quickly as you, though her small stomach wouldn't have the same capacity.”
Princey's eyes light up and he leans forward. Instead of answering the banter, he says meaningfully, “I have the full series on dvd.”
“I'm not doing anything right now,” Virgil says. Princey beams.
“Great! I'll make popcorn!”
~
They have a dedicated home theater. The tv is large, the seats are comfortable, and the speakers are crisp and clear without being too loud. Princey made a bucket of popcorn for each of them, and Virgil isn't very hungry right now considering he very recently had breakfast, but he munches idly on it as they watch, and comment, and theorize. Princey is fun to watch tv with, and doesn't mind Virgil talking while they watch.
They're in the middle of an episode when Remus appears in the doorway.
“Hey Emo,” says Remus. “I gotta get home and feed my cat before she figures out how to unlock the front door and hunts me down. I was gonna take you home on the way, but it looks like you're in the middle of something.”
Virgil considers. He looks at the screen, where Lemony Snicket is explaining that if you're allergic to something, it's generally best not to put that thing in your mouth, especially if the thing you are allergic to is a cat. He looks back at Remus. “You swear you'll come back for me?”
“On my favorite dildo and Janus's two cocks,” Remus says with feeling, and Virgil can't help the chuckle that escapes him.
“I'll be okay,” he says. “Go get Diesel Fuel her lunch.”
Remus salutes him and disappears.
They finish the episode and Remus hasn't come back yet, so they go on to the next one. During the theme song though, Nerdbot appears to inform them that they too need to eat lunch.
Virgil thought Princey might protest, given how invested he's been, but he pauses the show and gets up. “C’mon, Tall Dark and Stormy,” he says to Virgil. “If we skip lunch to watch tv all day we get a lecture about why proper nutrition is important.”
“You do,” Nerdbot confirms. “Points of note include the necessity of proteins and vegetables in addition to carbohydrates.”
“Is popcorn a vegetable?” Virgil asks.
Nerdbot raises an eyebrow. “It is a carbohydrate, actually. It is also primarily air.”
It seems that all the other guests have gone home, so it's just the four of them now. The table is back to its smaller size, and Princey has Virgil sit at the corner beside him, so they can keep talking. Nerdbot sits on Virgil’s other side, and Calico sits at the head, across from Princey.
Lunch is baked chicken and a vegetable dish that Virgil doesn't really expect to like, but he takes a polite spoonful anyway because he's sure Nerdbot is capable of a very powerful ‘eat your vegetables’ lecture, and he doesn't feel like hearing it right now.
The vegetables do not taste bad. Virgil’s not sure why he's surprised anymore considering everything he's eaten in this house so far—with the possible exception of the cereal, which doesn't count—but the vegetables are the opposite of bad.
“Why are you such a good cook,” Virgil says to Calico, who brightens. “I need to come eat your food more often.”
“He has a magical tongue,” Princey says, making heart eyes across the table at him.
Calico blushes slightly (not nearly as deeply as he had last night) and clarifies, “I'm very good at tasting, and I have a lot of practice combining flavors. I'm also not afraid of fats and salt, and that helps.”
Virgil has two servings.
Remus still isn't back yet when they finish lunch, and Virgil is starting to get concerned.
Don't forget me, he texts, and goes into the room with the couches to wait.
This couch really is comfortable. And Virgil got barely any sleep last night, between staying up late and waking up so fucking early, and also probably never actually falling into a deep sleep at all since there were other people in the room. And his stomach is full and warm. And the couch is so comfortable.
He barely has time to notice how heavy his eyelids are becoming.
~
Virgil wakes, briefly. The room is dark. Someone has covered him with a blanket. He finds his phone and checks it. There's a message from Remus, about half an hour after Virgil’s last text.
came to get you but you were very asleep, it says. text me when youre awake and wanna go home
Attached is a selfie, with Virgil in the background passed out on the couch.
Virgil groans. fucker, he texts back, and falls back asleep.
Chapter 4: The Second Morning
So I wrote, I guess fanfiction(?) about @puppygirllaika 's story Transition Diary of a Sex Doll, she had no hand in writing this it's just my interpretation and I'm posting it here with her consent.
It takes the form of a journal update from the pov of Andie several years later explaining in detail how she goes about looking after her doll.
Obviously everything you read here is fantasy and for entertainment only. The only TW I'd add to the list on the original story is I talk about calories at one point very briefly.
Hi all, this is Andie. I've had a ton of requests to let or make Jane update this. First if all 'Jane' is a dead name now, my doll doesn't have a name anymore. Second I have given it the opportunity to do so and it has declined. So here I am several years later to give you an idea of what its existence is like now and how I go about looking after it. I'm doing this, finally, because I feel like if I can help others either look after their new doll or figure out their feelings then I should. So here goes I guess
Bedsores: I can't have my doll getting infected, it'd be less useful for me. But this is a two birds one stone situation because I always need something to do with my hands and touching flesh is especially rewarding, so whenever I'm watching TV I have it on my lap and kneed the flesh where it tends to lay
Voice: originally it wanted full vocal chord removal so it'd be silent but I changed the surgery to suit me better, it now has only partial use of its voice, just enough so my doll moans when I fuck it and screams when I cut or hit it
Mind: if my doll lost touch with reality it'd start reacting to things that aren't real and I need it to be quiet when not in use so I have to keep it sane. So every day I prop it on the couch surrounded by stuffed toys and put the TV on for it. Sometimes I put on horror movies so it can practice screaming and looking scared, sometimes porn so it can practice moaning and crying out, or sometimes just nature documentaries. And I make sure I take it out of the house at least once a month, sometimes to a hookup so we can both use it, or camping or on a road trip.
Muscles: I need my doll to be able to clench around me and move its neck enough to give me head so I can't let its muscles atrophy. So i bought a tens unit and i put it on once or twice a week for a few hours to keep the muscles moving properly Skin: I like its skin to be smooth and well looked after because it's a better tactile experience for me and also because bruises look better on nice skin. So I sponge bath it often, scrubbing its skin thoroughly and cleaning all the tricky bits to keep them fresh. Whenever I cut it for the pure pleasure of parting living flesh with a sharp blade, or whenever I bite it so hard I come away with a chunk of flesh, or even when I dig my nails in so deep I carve deep gouges, then I need the first aid kit. I've got rather good at suturing wounds closed and carefully bandaging them, and then once they have healed enough I rub oils and moisturizers into the healing skin to minimize scars. And of course I keep up with its estrogen gell so its skin stays smooth.
Hair: mostly not a big job, the hair on its face it had lasered back when it was pretending to be human, the skin around its pussy was removed by electrolysis prior to the bottom surgery, and the hair on its head I keep just long enough to be useful for gripping so it has a convenient handle
Food/ water: it needs much less of both now, about half a cup of water a day and one meal every second day, it took me a long time to figure out the optimal calorie intake so its boobs would stay nice and full and its belly chub was enough that I can use it as a hold to fuck it. I make it a special all-in-one food so its bones and skin and everything else stays strong and healthy, and I make it in all the flavors it used to love because nutrients are absorbed better when the senses are properly stimulated. And then of course I brush its teeth.
I also bought one of those fancy neural link headsets, mostly for emergency use, because only it can tell me if something feels wrong in its body. But once a year I put the headset on her and force her to be a person for a couple of hours, I know she hates it and it exhausts her but I've told her it's like routine system maintenance and that seems to help. I make her reaffirm her consent for everything that I do to her. I ask her if she has any requests or anything I can do to help her be a better toy. We talk again about the possibility of a lobotomy or something more serious. I ask her if she has anything else she'd like to say. And then I take off the headset and I watch it sigh and relax as the mask falls off, as it stops pretending to be a person.
Between all that, yeah it's a big job looking after my doll properly. But it's mine and I'm careful with what belongs to me, and if I didn't feel like it was worth the effort I would have given it away or sold it by now. There's the obvious sexual uses, but there are lots more. Human bodies have sympathetic nervous systems so it really helps with my anxiety and panic attacks to cuddle it really tight to my chest. Its slow steady heartbeat and measured breathing soothe me, sometimes it hums softly which helps too. And it makes a great therapist, it listens and never talks back and looks at me with those deep loving eyes. Ohhh and of course as a hot water bottle, my feet get so cold at night it's nice having something soft and warm to put them on whilst I sleep, making sure the blanket isn't covering its face.
Thanks for reading, I hope this has helped anyone considering becoming a sex doll or taking on the responsibility of one of their own.
In “The Basics of Death Magick” I briefly mentioned what death energy is like.
“Death energy is about stillness, endings, and about the deconstructing and reconstructing processes. It’s about using what’s passed to fertilize what’s new and grow something that has purpose in the next step of your life. It’s about the acceptance of inevitability and what we can’t change to bring about what we can.”
That statement is somewhat vague in comparison to the full expanse of the truth. So in this blog I intend to break it down and fully flesh out exactly what I’m talking about here. It’s a truth that isn’t really grasped fully by many death craft users for some reason. A truth that all must learn to fully grasp the encompassing mystery of death.
Tumblr media
A Moment of Death
The act of death itself is a very swift action. The time leading up to it may be arduous and long but the moment the soul is separated from the body is almost instantaneous. It’s the exact instant that the ultimate change happens. And it’s that small instantaneous moment from which we’ve created a whole practice.
In that second, everything is different. Our mortal minds are completely stripped away and the real truth, the incomprehensible knowing that our previously living bodies weren’t made to comprehend, suddenly becomes realized in its entirety. This is the ultimate transformation, and the strongest form of the liminal.
Death & the Liminal
It may seem strange to think of death itself being liminal, especially since the moments between life and death are in of themselves liminal. Well the truth is death is all about change just as it is about the ending of something. You see, once Death happens, decay sets in and the process slowly melts away the old tissues, creating nutrients for the earth. This is the process of the liminal. The point of change from one form into the another. A reconstruction of energy. So while death is undoubtedly the end that is merely the tip of the iceberg as it would seem. The process of change is one of the biggest parts of death magick and yet it’s rarely talked about and understood by many who claim to practice it. Yet it is so quintessential to the art.
Stillness & Movement
As stated in the quote above, death is about stillness. However, just as it is about both endings and reconstruction so to is it about stillness and movement alike. The stillness we are most familiar with comes from the physical realm, the corpse. While the underlying movement in the equation stems from the spirit that was released. It’s a movement often unseen with mortal eyes but exists nonetheless. So I suppose the most accurate description of this energy would be “the physical stillness and hidden movements.”
Both forms of energy are intertwining and never exist without the other. That’s the reason many death users and spirit users alike often have a physical representation in their work and why many necromancers go to graveyards. The unity of the stillness and movement aspects work most beneficially when they are in tandem. And while one can call on them separately, it’s in their nature to connect. So working with both leads to a more prosperous craft.
Now, while I’m aware we all can’t have the convenience of working with an aspect of the corpse, like its bones for instance, especially when it comes to human bodies. Nor are we all able to get to a cemetery, it’s still important to represent the physical aspect of death. Trinkets and belongings from ancestors and relatives passed on work well, as do skulls carved in stone or crystal. You see, honoring the unity of both halves of death energy is the key to success.
In Conclusion
Death energy is a more complex energy than many may realize. It has layers and depth that few dive into completely and understand, preferring to work with what’s presented on the surface. The best way to experience Death magick is to understand these complexities and immerse oneself within its mysteries.
Felipe says the bare minimum when you come over to plant the rose bush and to be honest that’s the way you prefer it. You know that Angel’s father doesn’t like you. Parents want their children to marry successful people until it involves a kush farm. You are clearly not what he envisioned for his son.
For Angel’s sake you don’t want to get into a fight with his father, so you keep to yourself as you dig out the soil with your trowel. You pick up a handful of dirt before letting it crumble through your fingers and sighing.
“What?” Felipe prompts from his perch on the steps of the porch.
“The soil.” You tell him, holding it up and letting it drop through the space in your fist. “There’s no nutrients. I can’t plant this here.”
He knows what you’re not saying. The earth hasn’t been cared for, that it’s become a barren, desolate space in the aftermath of Marisol’s death. The truth is he’s barely been able to take care of himself and the house, the front garden wasn’t even a consideration before he’d seen what you’d done with Angel’s.
“I’ve got to head up to the farm, I’ve got some compost up there that’ll help and manure from Riz’s horses. I’ll get that down and then I can plant it.” You tell him, raising to your feet with a groan before tucking your gardening gloves into the back pocket of your Levi’s.
“We'll take my truck.” Felipe says as he stands up and removes his keys from his trouser pocket. You can't imagine anything worse than being trapped for the next twenty minutes in a confined space with Angel's surly father, but you can’t think of a polite reason to say no.
The first five minutes are oppressive. You reach for the radio before Felipe gives you a stern look. For a moment you seriously debate turning it on anyway, but you don't. His truck his rules. Instead, your elbow comes to rest on the open window, your hand lingering by your mouth.
“I read your interview.” He says into the silence between you.
“Which one?” You ask, your eyes fixed on the road ahead.
“All of them.” He admits.
He saw the first one in a magazine at the convenience store. The ‘kush queen' they had branded you. He'd walked past it with the full intention of ignoring it but then he'd doubled back. The truth is he wanted to learn more about the woman who had been inspiring all of these changes in Angel. His son obviously sees something in you. Felipe had wanted to know what it was. After reading the article, he'd gone to community centre and got one the volunteers to help him Google you.
Deep dives used to require some finesse in his day, the internet makes it almost too easy. He’s slow though in his fact-finding mission, typing with only two fingers and calling the volunteer over when he can't make the computer do what he wants. He leaves the community centre a few hours later with a handful of print outs to read over his evening meal.
It's only on the way out he notices that the planters on either side of the doors have been donated by Rose Kush. He thinks he suddenly understands why Angel's been so interested in helping out in that community.
“I want to see the rose garden.” Felipe tells you as he pulls up in front of your farm.
You tilt your head towards him, your eyebrows furrowing into a frown.
“I didn't bring up the rose garden in any of my interviews.”
“I know.” Felipe says as he turns off the engine and shoves open the driver's door.
It dawns on you that Angel must have mentioned it to him. He's the only person who has ever seen the space, it's you who looks after the roses, who nurtures them, uses specialised food to help keep them healthy and bring the colour out.
“I don't usually show anyone this.” You tell him as you take the keys out of your pocket and select the one for the gate.
“It needs oiling.” He remarks as you jiggle the key in the lock and throw your weight behind it. It creaks as it opens, setting his teeth on edge.
“It's one of those things I've not got around to yet.” You inform him as you step through into the rose garden.
“The bench too?” He gestures at the decrepit seating that looks like it's about to fall apart.
You roll your eyes skyward, your teeth biting down on your lower lip, because Lord give you strength with this man, he does not make it easy.
“You got something to say?” he asks you, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I get it.” You tell him. “You don't like me; you don't like the work I do.”
Felipe tilts his head from side to side as if deliberating.
“Do you love him?” Felipe asks you abruptly. “Do you love my son?”
The question is so far out of left field that it takes you a moment to register it.
“It's a simple question.” He informs you. “Do you love my son?”
You’ve loved Angel since the moment you met him. He’s the only man who has ever been able to give you a run for your money, who has showcased his vulnerabilities and embraced yours. There’s a wildness in that man that matches your own. You say none of this to Felipe.
“Yes.” You tell him.
He nods his head, before looking around at the roses. He sees the care that goes into maintaining them, they're thriving underneath your touch the same way Angel is. That's all he wants for his son, to be happy, to be healthy. You seem to be making him both.
“I’ll come over and fix the bench tomorrow.” He tells you before jerking his head towards the gate. “You can leave me the key after we get back to the house.”
“So, this was what?” You ask him, gesturing at the roses surrounding you. “Some sort of test?”
Felipe shrugs his shoulders before heading back towards the gate.
“If you can look after these things, you'll have no problem with Angel.”
“Is that you giving me your blessing?” You say half seriously as you lock the gate up behind you.
“I have a feeling you wouldn't give a damn either way.”
“I don't you.” You tell him honestly. “But your approval means the world to Angel.”
“I didn’t say I approve.” He says as he looks across the field of kush, watching as the crop sways in the breeze. “But I have a better understanding of why you do what you do, how it helps people, how you try to pay it forward.”
“You did read my interviews.” You remark, nudging him lightly with your shoulder.
He huffs in response before rolling up his sleeves.
“Come on.” He mutters, heading towards the manure pile on the opposite side of the farmhouse. “You said we need to shovel some shit.”
New grocer turns food swamp into hub for healthy food options on Detroit's east side
We first brought you this story back in February about a Black-owned grocery store set to open on the city's east side, and now it has come full circle as we take a closer look at the work being done to create a more equitable food system in Detroit.
"The city really showed up and showed out on our first day, and it's been very steady ever since," Raphael Wright said.
"This store is the only convenient grocery store that's in this area," Wright continued.
Over the course of six years, Wright, with the help of crowdfunding and a grant from Motor City Match, took what once was a food swamp or an area with more access to less nutritious foods than nutrient-dense foods and turned it into a hub for fresh produce.
"I do want a healthier Detroit," Wright said.
His goal is to aid in a large-scale effort to create a more sustainable and equitable food system in the city.
"He came already connected to the community," Winona Bynum said.
"So, he opened with the idea of making sure that he's serving the community's needs," she continued.
Bynum, a registered dietitian, heads Detroit's Food Policy Council, a group dedicated to supporting grocers like Wright while ensuring Detroiters are aware of healthy food options and policies promoting food security.
Detroit is continuing its coverage on food insecurity.
In an east side neighborhood, one business owner is taking the initiative to close the food gap.
The last Black-owned grocery store in Detroit closed its doors in 2014, and now there's a new owner in town working to bring culturally appropriate food back to the neighborhood. He's taking matters in his own hands to make Black history in his own backyard.
"This neighborhood is classed as a desert because there's no immediate grocery store in it," said Raphael Wright, owner of Neighborhood Grocery. "I'm on this mission of rebuilding the neighborhoods that I grew up in and that starts with food."
The building is currently under construction, but there's a bigger vision in the works. That vision is to bring a full-service grocery store to the corner of Manistique and Essex in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood.
"Only about five to 10% of Detroit is designated as a food desert," Bynum said.
"However, we do have the need for more food access; we're not where we want to be," she continued.
In fact, according to the Council's latest food metrics report, nearly 70% of Detroit households are food insecure, a 7% increase since 2019, confirming the city's need for the Neighborhood Grocery and a hope for more full-service stores just like it.
"As a black person, we've got a lot to fight for, and we can't do it off McDonald's," Wright said.
"So, it's time to put some healthier food options in the community," he continued.
Neighborhood Grocery is located in Detroit's Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood; it's now open Tuesday - Sunday from 9 AM - 9 PM.
According to Wright, this is just the store's "soft opening," and he's using this time to collect community feedback before November's grand opening.
"apply loking thign" [sic]
(page 242-245)
TT: I've found no evidence that anyone has successfully created the item.
WELL, THEY DID IT. THEY MADE A WHOLE APPLE. They are definitely not equipped to do this, it feels like they backdoored their way into succeeding through luck, risky storm behavior and narrative convenience, and it feels REALLY good. Obviously the threat isn't over yet, but I love to see John get a win, even when it's small.
When the alchemiter made blocks, they were just blocks. When it makes an apple, it shows us the full life cycle of the apple - sprouting the tree it grows from, then the fruit itself, then dropping the fruit and dying. This has fascinating implications for punch card alchemy. That pre-punched card didn't just store data about the apple at a given moment in time, it stores the apple's entire past leading up to the moment it takes this form. This could be connected to the elixir of life, which has historically been one of the things alchemists have tried to discover.
I really want to know if the items on the pre-punched card are random per game session, or if not, what determines them and what possibilities there are. We only know the apple and the eggy loking thign, both of which are living things, so could that be the link? Also, is this a real, actual apple that is/was alive and provides sustenance and nutrients (and was the egg a real egg that could hatch a bird/snake/dinosaur etc?) That's an insane amount of power for a video game to have, and it feels like every time we learn something else about what Sburb can do it only increases its world-altering potential, and its possibilities to go horrifically wrong.
Of course, the tree and the apple are also reminiscent of the tree of knowledge - the religious themes have been here throughout the comic, and I've made the Garden of Eden link with gardenGnostic as well. In Christianity, Eve giving into temptation and eating the fruit is the original sin and leads to exile, while in Gnosticism, eating the fruit is necessary and the only way to save humanity, seeing through the bullshit of people who tried to hold Eve back from achieving her potential.
Assuming that John will eat it - because what else is he gonna do, throw it at the meteor? - I don't know which of these outcomes will turn out to be true, or if they can coexist, or what kind of knowledge John will gain. The original sin, defying a god and seeking power theme fits really well with Rose's character as somebody seeking control and with Sburb as a game giving godlike powers to regular people. The Gnostic interpretation of saving humanity works with stopping a meteor strike, John having the ability to save himself, and possibly links to the conflict of TG being somewhat against Sburb. One big factor in which interpretation is more true is the ethics and intent behind Sburb itself - is the knowledge and power it can give somebody really something that a human should have?
Finally, an unrelated design note - I'm glad that on p.244-245, we see the sprite as a stamp in the corner of the page, not the obnoxious and jittery flashing. I like the idea of it flashing and it makes sense in-game (it wants something from the players and is trying to get their attention), but it's definitely bad to look at and becomes the main focus of any page. On p.245, it almost looks like a wax seal, which is so much better aesthetically.
What are some common weight loss myths and misconceptions?
Tumblr media
Here are some of the common weight loss myths and misconceptions in a straightforward way:
“Carbs make you fat”: Carbs aren’t the enemy. It’s more about the type and quantity. Whole grains, fruits, and veggies are good carbs. Processed carbs like white bread and sugary snacks are the ones to watch out for.
“You need to exercise like crazy”: While exercise is important, weight loss is mostly about diet. You can’t out-exercise a bad diet. Regular, moderate exercise combined with healthy eating is key.
“Skipping meals helps”: Skipping meals can backfire. It can slow down your metabolism and make you more likely to overeat later. Regular, balanced meals are better.
“Fat-free means healthy”: Not always. Fat-free products often have added sugars and other unhealthy ingredients to make up for the lack of fat. Healthy fats, like those in avocados and nuts, are good for you.
“Detox diets and cleanses work”: Your body naturally detoxes itself. Fancy cleanses can be unnecessary and sometimes harmful. Eating a balanced diet with plenty of water is a better way to support your body.
“All calories are equal”: Technically, yes, but where they come from matters. 100 calories of veggies aren’t the same as 100 calories of candy. Nutrient-dense foods are better for overall health and weight loss.
“You can target fat loss”: Spot reduction doesn’t work. You can’t choose where you lose fat. Overall weight loss through diet and exercise will eventually reduce fat everywhere.
“Supplements can replace meals”: Meal replacement shakes and supplements can be convenient but shouldn’t replace whole foods. They lack the complete nutrition that real food provides.
“Eating late at night makes you gain weight”: It’s not about when you eat, but what and how much you eat. Consuming a lot of calories late at night can lead to weight gain, but so can eating too much at any time of day.
“All diets work the same for everyone”: There’s no one-size-fits-all diet. Different bodies respond differently to various foods and eating patterns. What works for one person might not work for another.
“Healthy food is always expensive”: It can be, but there are plenty of affordable, healthy options like beans, lentils, seasonal fruits, and veggies. Planning and cooking at home can also help save money.
“You need to eat small, frequent meals to boost metabolism”: The frequency of meals doesn’t significantly impact metabolism. What matters more is the total calorie intake and the quality of the food.
“Drinking lots of water will flush out fat”: While staying hydrated is important, water alone won’t burn fat. It helps with overall health and can aid in weight loss by making you feel full, but it’s not a magic solution.
“Weight loss is linear”: Weight loss often involves ups and downs. You might lose a lot at first, then hit a plateau. It’s normal, and it’s important to stay consistent and patient.
“You have to give up all your favorite foods”: Moderation is key. You don’t have to completely eliminate your favorite foods, just enjoy them in smaller portions and less frequently.
“Strength training will make women bulky”: Strength training is great for building lean muscle and boosting metabolism. It’s very difficult for women to become bulky due to their hormone levels.
“Diet foods are always healthy”: Many foods labeled as “diet” or “low-fat” can be high in sugars, sodium, and artificial ingredients. Whole, unprocessed foods are often healthier choices.
“You can lose weight quickly and keep it off”: Quick fixes rarely lead to long-term success. Sustainable weight loss takes time, and maintaining it requires ongoing healthy habits.
“You need to go on a special diet”: Instead of a temporary diet, aim for long-term changes in your eating habits. Balance, variety, and moderation are more effective for sustainable weight loss.
“Only big changes count”: Small changes can add up over time. Swapping soda for water, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or adding a few extra veggies to your meals can make a big difference.
Remember, weight loss is personal and what works for one person might not work for another. The best approach is a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a healthy lifestyle.
acti-veg · 1 year
Note
Hi acti, I love your blog! I've been vegan for a little more than a year and doing great so far. However, sometimes I get scared I'll be an ex vegan someday. There seems to be lots of ex vegans, even people who've been veg for a decade or so. Every now and then I read their stories and health issues are almost always brought up. I cant deny that I am scared of health issues in the long run. I know I'm doing all I can to ensure I eat properly. But I also know I'm no doctor and I dont want to be arrogant and claim I wont have any issues for sure. I'm just doing my best and I hope everything will be fine. Do you have any tips about dealing with this fear? Thanks in advance.
I think that all too often, plant-based diets are treated as if they are all 'The Plant-Based Diet' - as if it were Atkins. Plant-based is an umbrella term, it covers a diverse range of diets, influenced by different cultures and preferences. Someone cooking and eating traditionally plant-based Indian vegan cuisine as their main staple would have a vastly different diet to someone veganising traditionally North American dishes.
This is part of why it is so frustrating to see people saying things like 'the plant-based diet wasn't healthy for me, I was tired, I didn't feel full etc.' That's just one version of a plant-based diet. If you felt tired or became anemic on a meat-based diet, you wouldn't assume you need to adopt a plant-based one, you'd just alter your existing diet to get more of whatever you're missing. There is no necessary nutrient, vitamin or mineral that cannot be obtained on a plant-based diet.
I can only make educated guesses from observations, but I think that for most ex-vegans, it came down to something other than health. Convenience, boredom, peer pressure, having gone vegan for the wrong reasons in the first place, having not actually been vegan (many who identify as ex-vegans were actually just plant-based dieters, particularly on youtube) and other such things.
If you're in it for the right reasons, you do your research and you stay engaged and education on the cause, then I don't think you have anything to worry about anon.
Packs on the Pounds -
Fast food is convenient and cheap, but you pay a bigger price in the long run. Those burgers, fries, and shakes usually have more fat, calories, and highly processed carbs than your body needs in one meal. This can quickly lead to weight gain and obesity if you eat it often.
2/13
Harms Your Heart
Sodium makes fast food taste better and keeps it from spoiling. But just one bacon cheeseburger can contain your recommended daily value for sodium. That’s the amount of a nutrient experts suggest getting every day. Too much sodium raises your blood pressure and damages your blood vessels. It also raises your risk for heart failure, heart attack, and stroke.
3/13
Spikes Blood Sugar
Bagels, buns, and breaded foods are high in processed carbs your body breaks down into sugar. As blood sugar levels rise, your body pumps out insulin to level things out. Over time, these constant sugar spikes can wear out your pancreas (the organ that makes insulin). This keeps blood sugar levels high, triggering type 2 diabetes.
4/13
Opens the Door to Digestive Issues
Fast food may taste good, but you may not feel well once it hits your system. High-sodium foods (fries, anyone?) can temporarily trigger bloat. Couple that with low amounts of dietary fiber, and your digestive tract gets backed up. This can lead to constipation that puts you at risk for hemorrhoids, hernias, and diverticulitis.
5/13
Affects Your Mood
What you eat and drink can impact how you feel mentally and physically. Fast food lacks the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your body needs to boost your mood. Research suggests fast and processed foods you buy at the store may be linked to a higher risk of depression.
6/13
Makes You Tired
When a bunch of processed carbs hit your system, your blood sugar rises quickly, then drops just as fast. This can make you feel tired. If you grab a sugary coffee drink to wake up, the cycle starts all over again.
7/13
Could Impact Your Fertility
Phthalates, synthetic chemicals that dissolve materials and make plastics durable, are in everything from toys to fast food. Recent studies have linked phthalates with fertility issues and higher risks of learning and behavioral disorders in children.
8/13
Changes Your Bathroom Habits
Because it’s highly processed, fast food -- especially the kind that’s fried or creamy -- can be hard to digest. If your body can’t break it down, it lands in your colon and turns into fatty acids that spark diarrhea.
9/13
Invites Dental Disease
The high levels of carbs and sugar in fast food, including sodas, raises the amount of acids in your mouth. These wear down the enamel on your teeth and boosts your risk of cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease.
10/13
Wears Out Your Bones and Joints
Excess weight and obesity caused by fast food puts extra pressure on your joints, especially your hips and knees. This makes you more likely to get fractures in the bones around your joints.
11/13
Raises Your Risk for Respiratory Issues
One fried chicken dinner won’t affect the way you breathe. But too much fast food can lead to extra weight that increases your risk of asthma, especially in women. More research is needed to know exactly why, but early studies show that fat tissue leads to inflammation that may affect your lungs.
12/13
Causes Skin Outbreaks
Fast food is full of ingredients that don’t play well with your skin. Sugar can lower collagen levels and lead to signs of early aging, like wrinkles. Salt drains moisture from your skin, but it helps your body keep the water that causes bags under your eyes. High amounts of saturated fats trigger hormones that play a role in acne.
13/13
Affects Your Memory
Experts think saturated and trans fats tell your body to make plaques in the brain. These cause dementia and raise your risk of Alzheimer’s disease three times more than those who don’t eat fast food.
"What if Bill Gates tabled the idea to the CIA of Population Control? Not just the future management of Population Growth, but also the Control of the remaining Populations who would eventually realise what was going on. It involved the idea of Ethnically cleansing the Populations that hold most of the Land Assets the greedy 1% desire. The Populations of the USA, the UK, Australia, Canada & New Zealand predominantly. What if Bill Gates devised an Ethnicity Specific Weapon of Mass Destruction, mRNA Covid-19 injections, which he planned to use alongside the Poisoning of Water Supplies & the removal of Nutrient Rich Food by Genetically Modifying it? The Food looks great, but holds no Nutritional Value. What if Gates also Pollutes the Air we breathe with Chemtrails all leading to a shortening of Life? What if Gates was then given the role of Global Population Control on a limited contract, 2020-2030 along with a Licence to Kill? That he then publicly divorced in an attempt to shield his equally complicit wife & their Children from the dangers his new role would bring? His Licence to Kill allows him to target aircraft carrying individuals that could adversely effect his plans, like the Cancer specialists whose flight went down recently? What if he was gifted the contract to operate the new global digital currencies through Microsoft, meaning he earns with every single global transaction? What if the reason there are no "Property Of" signs on 5G towers are because they are Gates owned? And what if this ultimate salesmen managed to convince or blackmail the Leaders of our Nations that this was in fact a good & profitable idea?
Sell Eco-Terrorism as Geo-engineering?
Sell Death Jabs as Healthcare?
Sell Bio-Terrorism as a Pandemic?
Sell Financial Terrorism as Inflation?
👀Must Know: Nutrition Tips and Tricks 🥗🍽️
📌 Today, we're into must-know nutrition tips and tricks. Good nutrition is the base of a healthy life! Let's get into how you can make the most of your diet. ⬇️
1️⃣ Tip 1: Include Whole Foods
Whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins are full of nutrients. Unprocessed foods give you the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants your body needs to function correctly. Eating whole foods reduces your intake of added sugars, unhealthy fats, and preservatives. Whole foods are naturally lower in calories and higher in fiber, which helps you maintain a healthy weight and digestive health.
2️⃣ Tip 2: Understand Macronutrients
Balance your macronutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Carbs give you energy, proteins support muscle repair and growth, healthy fats support hormone production and brain health. Aim for a balanced plate at every meal. Carbs should come from whole grains, fruits, and veggies. Choose lean proteins like chicken, fish, beans, and legumes. Incorporate healthy fats from nuts, seeds, and avocados. This balance gives you sustained energy and overall health.
3️⃣ Tip 3: Incorporate Micronutrients
Micronutrients like vitamins and minerals are important for many bodily functions. Make sure you have a diverse diet to get a variety of micronutrients. Leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and colorful fruits are excellent sources. Vitamin C from citrus fruits supports the immune system, calcium from dairy products strengthens bones, and iron from spinach and lentils prevents anemia. A varied diet covers all your nutritional bases.
4️⃣ Tip 4: Hydrate
Stay hydrated! Water is for digestion, nutrient absorption, and toxin elimination. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day. You can also include herbal teas and water-rich fruits like watermelon and cucumber. Hydration is good for skin, weight management, and physical performance. Carry a water bottle with you and stay hydrated throughout the day. Listen to your body and drink when you're thirsty.
5️⃣ Tip 5: Fiber is Your Best Friend
Fiber is for digestion, weight management, and chronic disease prevention. Incorporate soluble and insoluble fiber from oats, beans, fruits, and veggies. Soluble fiber from oats and beans helps control blood sugar and lower cholesterol. Insoluble fiber from whole grains and veggies helps with bowel regularity. A fiber-rich diet is good for your gut microbiome.
6️⃣ Tip 6: Limit Processed Foods
Processed foods contain unhealthy fats, sugars, and sodium, which can lead to obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. Opt for whole, natural foods whenever possible. Cooking at home allows you to control the ingredients and avoid additives. Read food labels to make informed choices. Reducing processed food intake means better long-term health outcomes.
7️⃣ Tip 7: Eat Mindfully
Be mindful by paying attention to your hunger and fullness cues; eat slowly and savor each bite. This helps with digestion and prevents overeating. Mindful eating enables you to enjoy your food more and recognize true hunger vs emotional eating. It helps you make healthier food choices and the eating experience. Put away distractions and focus on your meal.
8️⃣ Tip 8: Plan and Prep
Meal planning and prepping help you eat balanced. Set aside time each week to plan your meals, grocery shop, and prep ingredients. This saves time and ensures you have healthy options available. Planning reduces the temptation to grab unhealthy convenience foods. Batch cooking and storing meals make busy days easier and consistent healthy eating. Make a grocery list to avoid impulse buys.
➡️ These tips will make a big impact. Remember, consistency is key. Small changes add up over time.
Benefits of a Smoothie Diet
1. Weight Loss: Smoothies can help with weight loss by reducing calorie intake while still providing essential nutrients. They are often lower in calories than traditional meals and can keep you feeling full and satisfied.
To ensure your smoothie is both delicious and nutritious, include the following ingredients:
- Fruits: Berries, bananas, mangoes, apples, and pineapples add natural sweetness and essential vitamins.
- Vegetables: Spinach, kale, cucumbers, and carrots are excellent for adding fiber and nutrients without altering the taste significantly.
- Protein: Greek yogurt, protein powder, tofu, or nut butter can help keep you full and support muscle growth.
- Healthy Fats: Avocado, chia seeds, flaxseeds, and coconut oil provide essential fatty acids and promote satiety.
